Chris Low (1:04 PM)
I'm in the seat and ready to go.
Will J (Portland, OR)
Chris, Auburn's decision to choose Gene Chizik for head coach, has to be one of the strangest choices in recent memory, especially with the record he had at Iowa St.
Chris Low (1:06 PM)
Yep, it was a stunner for a lot of people and one of the strangest coach searches I've ever seen. As a coordinator, Chizik did a nice job at both Auburn and Texas. But how do you hire a guy that was 2-10, had to fire both of his coordinators this past season and was in danger of possibly being fired himself next season if he had another losing record ... when you just pushed Tommy Tuberville out the door?
Who did a better job hiring - Tennessee or Auburn?
Chris Low (1:07 PM)
Both took chances. But the reality is that you can't fairly evaluate either hire until three or four years from now.
Heisman (New York, NY)
What is your opinion on how Tebow was left out of the estimated 150 Heisman ballots?
Chris Low (1:09 PM)
Probably people who were tired of hearing about Tebow, to be honest.
OK Chris, NO ONE will answer this question. What if Utah dominates Alabama and finishes the season undefeated? Where would they rank in the final BCS rankings?
Chris Low (1:11 PM)
I would think third or fourth. Much of that would depend on what Texas does in its bowl game and what Southern California does in its bowl game.
What do you think about Charles Barkley's comments about Auburn not hiring Gill because he was black?
Chris Low (1:12 PM)
Sadly, I think he's right. At the very least, I think it was a factor, although nobody will ever admit it.
Are you going to rank the SEC bowl games and give your predictions on the blog at any time?
Chris Low (1:14 PM)
I've already ranked the bowl games. I did it the Monday after the games were announced. And, yes, I'll be picking the bowl games as well once we get closer to the games.
Chris, what do you make of Eric Berry in Monte Kiffin's Cover 2? Also, how 'bout him not winning the Thorpe Award. He was robbed.
Chris Low (1:15 PM)
I think Eric Berry in any defense is a great player, and he should only be that much better learning under a great defensive mind like Monte Kiffin. As for the Thorpe Award, I think Berry was snubbed, but very few of those national individual awards go to a player on a losing team.
CHRISS!!!!! Happy Holidays! How will Vandy's Bowl Season Impact their Recruiting in the coming Seasons? Will they finally Jump out of the recruiting Cellar
Chris Low (1:18 PM)
I think Bobby Johnson had already elevated recruiting, which is why you see players like D.J. Moore, Chris Marve, Myron Lewis and Broderick Stewart on this team. They're getting better athletes and more of them, and going to a bowl will only help.
greg (ft. worth)
what is a bigger joke; usa today ballots, or heisman ballots?
Chris Low (1:19 PM)
Man, that's a tough call. I'd have to go with USA Today coaches' ballots.
Sam (Los Angeles)
Can we expect the Georgia Bull Dogs to be any better next year or did they peak under Richt last season?
Chris Low (1:21 PM)
If Stafford and Moreno both come out, which I think they will, next year could be a tough one for the Dogs. I think you're going to see some schools, Auburn in particular, come after some of their top assistants, too -- namely Rodney Garner and Stacy Searels.
Tom Mitchell/Canton ohio
Do you think that Kiffin has a QB in the works for this class that just has not been mentioned yet?
Chris Low (1:22 PM)
At this point, I think he's just going to wait until next year and try to go after one of the marquee pro-style QBs that he thinks fits into what he wants to do on offense.
Tony (New Jersey)
No that Auburn has passed on T Gill, do you think he'll take another job or stick with Buffalo.
Chris Low (1:24 PM)
First of all, I think Gill is a good coach who's going to get a job. If I were him, I'd be picky. He's going to have more opportunities. Not every school is as dysfuntional as Auburn.
How do you think the great SEC defenses will do when they face teams that can actually move the ball? SEC offenses were terrible this year, out of conference too
Chris Low (1:26 PM)
No question that the offenses in the SEC this season were bad. I still think there were quite a few good defenses in the SEC. The Florida-Oklahoma game should settle a lot of the questions about whether the offenses were just that bad or the defenses just that good.
Brandon(Sam's Town, Oklahoma)
Chris, are you one of those SEC homers that thinks Bradford didn't deserve the Heisman?
Chris Low (1:27 PM)
I voted for Tebow, but that doesn't mean I think Bradford didn't deserve the Heisman. All three of the finalists had unbelievable years.
heard anything about orgeron coming to knoxville?
Chris Low (1:28 PM)
I know that's Kiffin's plan, to bring Orgeron in as recruiting coordinator/assistant head coach. We'll see what kind of money Tennessee is really prepared to pay to put together this "dream" staff that's been proposed
How many TD's will Oklahoma score against Florida? Will 5 be enough to win?
Chris Low (1:29 PM)
No, because I think Florida will score 40-plus points. I think the first team to 50 wins.
Matt (Miramar, FL)
Do you think UF's Mullen will really leave and not coach for UF's BCS National Championship game?
Chris Low (1:31 PM)
I know he wants to stay and coach in the BCS game. He told me as much late last week. But a lot of that depends on getting his staff lined up at Miss. State. I know Tim Tebow has told some people he's not sure Mullen will be able to swing it. So we'll see.
Shouldn't the SEC play a tougher non-conference schedule? I don't think the argument that the SEC is so tough that the schools pick weak non-conference teams to beat up on isn't really valid anymore.
Chris Low (1:36 PM)
The problem is that some teams do and some teams don't. Tennessee and Alabama have done a better job of going out and playing bigger name schools and Florida faces FSU every year.
Who do you think is the best fit for Offensive Coord. at Tennessee?
Chris Low (1:38 PM)
I think Lane Kiffin will call his own plays.
Grant (Lincol Park)
Hey Chris, what will be the score at halftime in the BCS Title game, and who will be on top?
Chris Low (1:42 PM)
Let's go with 34-24 at the half.
Chuck (Houston, TX)
When I compare the overall seasons of the three Heisman finalists I really don't understand how Colt didn't win it. Can you explain it to me?
Chris Low (1:50 PM)
I think Colt's downfall was that Bradford got so hot late in the season and the Sooners ended up winning the Big 12. A lot of times, voters vote for what happens late and the player who's on the hottest team.
Joey (Florence, AL)
Would you comment on Bama's top draftable players? Obviously, everyone is assuming Andre Smith(OT) will come out and possibly NT Cody but I'm hearing rumors now about Coffee contacting the DAB to check his level. Your thoughts on that and, assuming you know the name Mark Hudspeth, what about his hiring as Miss. State OC?
Chris Low (1:53 PM)
I would think Smith is definitely gone and will be a top 5 pick. I'm not so sure about Cody. He insists he's coming back. Coffee has had a great year, but I don't think he will get a high enough grade to come out and will be back for his senior season. As for Hudspeth, he's done a great job at North Alabama and obviously Mullen has done his homework.
Keith Jax, FL
In your opinion which UF players leave early for thr NFL draft?
Chris Low (1:55 PM)
I think Harvin will come out. He's been so injury prone that I can't see him chancing coming back for another season. I still think Tebow may come back. Now, if the Gators win the BCS title, he may decide he's done all he can at Florida and enter the draft, but it's not going to affect his stock whether he comes out this year or waits until next. All the NFL people have doubts about his ability to play QB in the NFL.
it seems like everyone thinks the Florida-Oklahoma game is going to be a shoot out, but i think both teams will be in the 20's-low 30's, and whichever teams D is the most oppurtunistic will win. What ya think?
Chris Low (1:57 PM)
That would be funny if it turns into a defensive struggle. I just think both offenses are so explosive that it's going to be be a score-a-thon
How do you see the Ole Miss defense stacking up against Texas Tech's offense?
Chris Low (1:58 PM)
The problem is that Harrell gets rid of the ball so quickly. Ole MIss is really good in the defensive line and weaker at cornerback. The Rebels need to find a way to get Harrell out of his rhythm. I think it comes down to Jevan Snead. He and the Rebels need to put up some points early so there's not as much pressure on the defense.
PJ (Nashville, TN)
Do you think Kiffin's entire staff is going to end up better at recruiting than the dominate Saban and Meyer?
Chris Low (1:59 PM)
With the way Saban and Meyer have recruited, I have a hard time saying anybody is going to be better until I see it.
Larry (Glendale, CA)
How do you think Florida's d-line is going to match up with Oklahoma's o-line? And vice versa?
Chris Low (2:00 PM)
I think they will hold their own. To me, one of the underrated keys of the SEC title game was how well the Florida defensive front held up against Alabama's offensive line for the duration of the game.
There is alot of talk that if Charlie Weis is forced out after the '09 season, they will pursue Urban Meyer, who admittedly in a recent article says Notre Dame is his dream job. Do you think if he wins a 2nd National Title with UF, he will leave for Notre Dame in 2010?
Chris Low (2:02 PM)
I think Urban will leave for the NFL (maybe the Browns) before he leaves for Notre Dame. Urban's a smart guy. He knows what a rebuilding job Notre Dame is right now.
Steve (Huntsville, AL)
I am bummed out with Auburn's hire. With Tennessee hiring an up and comer in Kiffin I expected we would do the same. Why would Auburn do this?
Chris Low (2:03 PM)
You and a lot of Auburn fans I've heard from are bummed out. I'm having a hard time figuring this one out myself. Maybe Jay Jacobs knows something the rest of us don't.
Chris Low (2:05 PM)
OK, back to wrapping up the SEC season on my blog. Thanks again for all the questions. Look forward to catching up with everybody next Monday.
