Nothing. It's a bogus story because the WBC has absolutely no juice in the situation, so to speak. Who cares what the WBC says or does? I think about the only thing they could do is retroactively vacate Mosley's title and eliminate it from their record books, but the win will not change for Mosley. The WBC just loves the publicity. Their involvement in this is a non-story.

Yes, they have been running promos for them. Among them are Hopkins-Pavlik, Pacquiao-Marquez 2, Pacquiao-DLH, Margarito-Cotto. I can't remember the others. I'm sure it's on the HBO Web site.

HBO views Chad Dawson as a young star with a lot of upside and some big fights in the future given all the talent between 168 and 175. So if getting Dawson away from Showtime meant doing a rematch Dawson was under contract for anyway against a guy HBO's audience knows well from all of Tarver's appearances on the network, that was HBO's calculated gamble. I'm not saying I like that they bought the rematch. I am saying that in the long run, I get it.

I think Lopez is more than willing but it's a matter of it making sense. I think Lopez would jump at the chance to face Vazquez. However, I think Vazquez has bigger fights in mind. Not to mention, nobody knows when Vazquez will be able to fight again (or if he will) after his eye problem.

Yes. What division to even rank him in? He won't fight probably for at least a year, if ever again. He showed absolutely nothing in his last fight. I didn't drop him without giving it serious thought. I have been doing regular rankings since 2000 and this is the first time I have ever done a set that he didn't appear in. It was weird.

No idea what you are talking about. Margarito-Shane is for Margarito's title. And win or lose, Arum says he's doing Margarito-Cotto 2 and it is on PPV, period. The first fight did 450,000 buys. No way does it go back to regular HBO.

I do not believe that fight is "hands down" FOY. It probably is, but it had competition. Some of the other best fights in no order were Margarito-Cotto, Arce-Concepcion, Pacman-JMM 2, Adamek-Cunningham and Casamayor-Katsidis.

Well actually that is not true. The assumption is that Cotto beats Jennings for the vacant WBOgus title in Feb, therefore making the rematch for a belt. That is part of Arum's reason for making Cotto-Jennings, to hedge against a Margarito loss and still have a title fight, which means jack to us, but is important to Arum when he tries to sell the fight overseas.

I will always remember Angelo sending me a long handwritten letter after I first started working at USA TODAY and the first edition of the rankings were published. It was just a nice friendly letter saying he enjoyed them and that he hoped we'd meet at a fight at some point and he offered his phone number in case I ever needed to talk to him for a story. Just a real genuine letter from a great guy.

I rag at them ALL THE TIME. But you have to remember one thing -- star boxers make way more than the top MMA guys. A main event on a ppv may take almost all of the money. The MMA guys make very little compared to them so they can spend more on an undercard.

It was a situation where Freddie was busy with other fighters and had a lot on his plate and Vanes wanted/needed more one-on-one time so he went with Ronnie Shields. It also made sense because Vanes relocated to Houston to train, which is where he has some family.

Yes, it was. Pete is a big boxing fan and is friendly with Goossen. A couple of days before the fight, Goossen had called me back and while we were talking Pete came into his office and he put me on speaker and I chatted with Pete for a little bit. I told him that back in about 93 or 94 when I worked at a tiny newspaper in upstate New York he made a local appearance and I interviewed him for a story in the paper. Pete was one of the first big-name atheltes I ever interviewed and he was pretty cool that day. Of course, Pete had no memory of it, which I didn't expect he would.
