Buzzmaster (2:49 PM)
We'll have our usual plethora of NFL experts stopping by this afternoon. We'll start off with our fantasy football guru, followed by the gang from Scouts Inc. as well as Football Outsiders. It all starts at 3 p.m. ET!
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:02 PM)
Good afternoon, everyone! Final MNF affair of the season, so let's do this...
Mel (NJ)
Keeper: Forte or Chris Johnson??? I am leaning toward Forte depending on what Titans do with White and CJ...Tanks!
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:04 PM)
That's no doubt that I'd keep Forte if I knew White and Johnson were still going to share the backfield in '09. Forte's consistency in terms of touches and production has been outstanding.
Jake
How is Forte's health and how effective will he be tonight?
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:06 PM)
Well, it appears he'll be good to go and assuming he has no additional problems with that toe tonight, he should receive his regular workload and be effective.
Bob, (Chicago, Illinois)
Which QB should I start next week? Rivers, Thigpen, Warner, or Cassel? I'm in the championship, and I need help desperatly after starting Warner!!
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:08 PM)
You've got all 4, huh? That's more of a curse than a blessing, since you've had to make that call each week.I'd go with Warner if the coach Whisenhunt follows through on his word to play this game to win, since the Cards have looked so bad the past two weeks. That being said, Rivers also has a nice matchup against the Broncos, so if you get any feeling that Warner won't go the distance, Rivers is a very nice play as well.
Steiny (NYC)
Matt Cassel had an unbelievable game yesterday. Do you see him putting up the same type of numbers against Buffalo?
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:11 PM)
I don't see him lighting up the Bills the way he did the Cards, but he should still have a nice game. He's really played well the past month or so and he'll still help you out. But the Bills' D has had trouble stopping the run a lot recently and I expect a nice mix from the Pats on Sunday.
David (Indianapolis)
I don't think I'll be using Peyton next week at my QB spot. I have Thigpen and Fitzy on the bench, should I use one of them or is there someone else who might be worth a pick up?
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:13 PM)
If Peyton's not going to play the entire game, I can't blame you for planning ahead. I'd definitely start Thigpen over Fitzpatrick, of course, but if someone like Matt Schaub is available on your wire (he's out there in 27% of leagues, I see), he could have a decent finale against the Bears, potentially.
CAL (St. Paul, MN)
I need a big game from Forte tonight, what kind of stats should I expect?
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:16 PM)
Assuming he makes it through the game, I don't see any reason he can't reach 100 yards from scrimmage and maybe a score. He went over 100 from scrimmage in the first meeting and that was a 37-3 blowout loss.
Erick (Texas)
Do you think The Giants will light up the rushing yards like yesterday againts the Vikings or do you see the Giants starters sitting next week?
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:18 PM)
I'm staying tuned on that one, because they have nothing to play for, and I would expect Jacobs to get some rest for sure, if not sit out completely. Maybe the same for Eli and even Derrick Ward, as far as limiting the snaps. I expect we'll know more as the week goes on.
Ty (KC) NEED HELP, SUPER BOWL
Thiggy or Schaub this week? With teams sitting a lot of their key players...how does that effect their Defenses?? Should I play Pit or Ind D?THANKS!
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:21 PM)
I would go with Schaub, since I think they'll move the ball well against the Bears and play hard in their finale at home. And while Thigpen plays the Bengals, he had his first big yardage game in a month yesterday and the Bengals haven't been huge pushovers the past two weeks, although yesterday came against the totally inept Browns. And I'm not overthinking the defense, the Steelers unit will still be strong, especially against the aforementioned sad Browns offense.
edge (arizona)
when does fantasy baseball start? thanks to warner, i lost my championship game yesterday.
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:22 PM)
I think there are many others in the same boat with you, but making it to the title game is still a nice accomplishment.
JP (DC)
WR to start next week - should I start both NO - Moore and Colston or try to have someone like R.Wayne, Chambers, and/or Edwards to lead me to promised land? Thanks
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:24 PM)
If Wayne is going to play deep into the game vs. Tennessee, I'd play him over Moore, who simply hasn't done much recently. I'd stay away from Edwards and Chambers completely, since they just aren't in great situations. If Wayne doesn't go, I guess the two Saints aren't terrible options since Brees could be going for the record.
Andy (Phoenix)
Ride the hot hand (Thigpen @ Cinci), or stick with the guy who got you here (Romo @ Philly) next week?
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:26 PM)
I'm sticking with Romo, especially in a game that means so much and without a completely healthy running game. Maybe Thigpen blows up, but he hadn't thrown for more than 200 in a game since before Thanksgiving until yesterday.
Claire (NY)
I know there's been a lot of talk about Forte's toe (Believe me -- I own him and am relying on a HUGE game from him tonight to win my championship game) but no one's asked yet about Ryan Grant -- who happens to be owned by my opponent. Can I expect Forte to have a bigger night than Grant (say, 8 points bigger...)?
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:29 PM)
I would say that will depend on if Forte scores one more TD than Grant, because I expect both to play well tonight. In the 100-yard range with a score.
Kenneth (Jacksonville, FL)
I had a comfortable lead until DeAngelo Williams went nuts and scored four touchdowns last night, so now I am only up by eight points (119 to 111), but the guy I am playing against has the Bears D/ST and I have Mason Crosby. Robbie Gould is available in free agency. Who should I go with, Gould or Crosby? And what are the odds the Bears D/ST comes up with enough points for this guy to beat me?
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:32 PM)
Well, you never know when a defense/special teams unit is going to score, but I would expect you'll be fine as long as the Bears D/ST doesn't score. And even if they do, you still have a chance, of course. I'm not forecasting a blowout like the first meeting, but I think both teams will be able to move the ball on each other. I'm siding with you in this one, Kenneth. And no, playing kicker roulette isn't worth it, because it's nearly impossible to predict field goals.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Mr. Lipscomb: About your choice of Romo in Philly for next week. First, should Romo owners be wary of snowy, windy weather conditions and second, this is a December game, which is not Romo's strength.
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:34 PM)
Duly noted, J.B. There's no question Romo's December track record isn't pretty, but I would personally have a hard time starting Thigpen over him, since Thigpen hasn't been very strong recently until yesterday. Romo will make mistakes in that game, but I think he'll still make enough plays, too.
Marsh (StL)
What you see out of Rodgers tonight? I'm down 23 with 6/pt throwing tds.
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:36 PM)
So, you'd likely need 3 TDs, Marsh. That might be too much to ask, but I do think 2 TDs is very possible, so if he exceeds my expectations by just one, you could be rollin'. He's thrown 2 or more TD passes in 4 of his past 5 games.
Wags (TX)
RB for next week finale - McFadden, Stewart, or Hightower as 2nd RB?Thanks and happy holidays - good luck to all of you - except my foe next week.
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:39 PM)
I'd keep an eye on the health of Stewart, just in case he comes out of last night's game worse for the wear. That being said, he is a better bet to find the end zone than McFadden, despite his fine effort yesterday, so I'd go with Stewart against the Saints. I'd stay away from Hightower altogether.
Dougie Fresh (Alaska)
Any word on whether Hot-lanta will go for it and play their stars next week?
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:40 PM)
Since they are playing for the NFC South title still, they certainly will have all hands on deck.
Lobster Claus (Gloucester, MA)
How many sacks will Kampman have tonight (IDP!)?
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:43 PM)
Even though he's been down a tad from the past two seasons, he's always capable of getting to the QB. The Bears haven't allowed a ton of sacks this season, so I wouldn't expect more than one from Kampman.
Jimmy (DC)
Keith - HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!! TD-Only League coming down to the wire. I have Cutler and Romo and can only start one. Luckily both need to win to get in, and leaning towards Cutler in what could eb a shoot-out. Help convince me I am making the right move. Thanks
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:44 PM)
I've gotta side with you on this one, Jimmy. The Chargers pass D is ready to give up some more yardage in what I agree will be a shootout this Sunday night. I'd go with Cutler as well.
Ben (Miami)
Is Maurice Jones-Drew going to play next week at Baltimore?
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:46 PM)
I've read nothing so far to say he won't play, but it is the Ravens D he'll be facing, so while he'll get his opportunities, keep your expectations low.
Chris (Mechanicsville, MD)
Who should i use, Flacco or Mcnabb?
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:47 PM)
Gotta go with McNabb, Chris.
Vicente (Sacramento)
What kind of game should we expect from Grant tonight? we he put up anything close to the numbers he put up in the first meeting?
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:49 PM)
I don't expect 140+ again, but I do think the century mark is a possibility. I expect this game to be closer and for the passing games to factor in, but we'll see.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
With the sudden drop off in Arizona's offense and your projected shoot-out in next Sunday night's Battle for Mediocrity, would it be a decent move to drop Rackers and pick up Prater to kick next week?
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:50 PM)
It's always tough to guess with kickers, since Arizona could be held to two field goals and Denver could score only 5 TDs and you'd have been better off with Rackers.I think Arizona's offense will bounce back at home against a bad Seattle pass D and that Rackers will still do fine. It's always hard to say whether or not he'll outproduce another kicker, but I'd be fine with playing Rackers.
Dominic the Donkey (Italy)
Please Please Please answer...Do u know if the points from yesterday have been updated/any adjustments have been made? i have a one point lead going into tonight and need to know if its safe to sit crosby in order to avoid any negative points...
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:52 PM)
It's never completely safe, because games are reviewed for possible corrections beyond today, so I'd hang with Crosby just in case. That would be a tough way to lose, wouldn't it?
Tommy South Bend indiana
i know u already kind of answered rodgers questions but 1 more bro its importanat. How many yards u think he throws for tonite, we get a point for every 10 yards passing. merry xmas
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:53 PM)
Merry Christmas to you, Tommy. If I had to project a yardage total, I'd go with 235 tonight with 2 TD and a pick. But that's just educated guesswork. Good luck in your game.
RB (NC)
Keith, I am 2 pts down in the Superbowl with Forte to play tonight. Concerned about the toe and picked up Chicago's AP. Which would you use for a sure 3 points tonight to win the big one????
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:54 PM)
Right now, it sounds like Forte will go and that's all I need to know to play him over AP. I'm sure all the pregame coverage will let you know if Forte's iffy or inactive (within an hour of game time).
Jonah (Hawaii)
I can start either kicker in tonight's game. I'm down by five. Who should I start?
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:56 PM)
All these kicker questions! It must be championship time ... Once again, total guess, but I like the fact that the Packers have been scoring (and allowing plenty of points), so I'll go with Crosby by a hair.
Barack Obama
Did I mention that I also like fantasy football? Coach Whisenhunt - your opinion? He has to save face and play his starters next week, right? Otherwise I might call for a Congressional hearing.
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:57 PM)
I really think he has to play them at least until he sees what he wants to see out of them. And if he sees that, it means they've played well and helped you in fantasy.
Ryan: Miami, FL
Hey Ken,I'm in a league where you can start a second offensive player and have been starting warner and hill.If Warner sits next week (killed in my first week for the championship), Would I be better off picking up Leinart or Russel? Or should I just start 4 rb's instead out of westbrook, forte, grant, cj, dunn, and memo? I'm worried about cj sitting this week also. Thanks!
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (3:59 PM)
I think you have to feel that one out, Ryan. If Johnson plays, I think you have to go with your four stud backs.
Can't Pick
I have Grant and Forte and I am leading the championships this week but have another week ahead. I want to build on my lead and don't want to post a donut. Who do I start?
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (4:00 PM)
If you're looking for the most downside, it has to reside with Forte, because of his existing injury. So that would make Grant the better bet to NOT post a donut. I hope that answers your question.
Mike (PA)
Is 120yds rushing and a TD likely for Forte tonight? We get 3 pt bonus for cracking 100yds. I need that stat line for the win.
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (4:01 PM)
Since Forte has just three 100-yard rushing games, I wouldn't bet on it, Mike. It's certainly possible if he gets his normal workload, but just stating the fact that he's been more valuable in leagues which reward for 100 yards from scrimmage instead.
ESPN.com Fantasy's Keith Lipscomb (4:02 PM)
OK, everyone. It's been a pleasure as always. Good luck tonight and if your league plays in Week 17! Here's wishes you all Happy Holidays!Gary Horton will take it from here.
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:06 PM)
It was a fascinating Week 16 of football, and now as we look to Week 17, I think there are two things that catch my attention. We have some games where there is a lot on the line, and either one or both teams will play hard. But we also have a scenario where some teams are out of the playoffs, and their cars are already packed and ready to go. We have a third scenario where we have teams who have clinched, and the results of weejk 17 have nothing to do with January. Will they play their starters, or rest them? That is always a fascinating decision that coaches make. For examples, the Giants will play the Vikings in a meaningless game, though it is a must-win for the Vikings.
Ty (Barberton, OH)
I'm a big fan of Peyton Manning and I'm sure everyone has noticed his expertise in his leadership role. He's led his team in 7? comeback wins this year and is a true field general as well. Do you think he's MVP worthy?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:08 PM)
I think right now, you'd have to make him the favorite. He took a team that, early in the season, looked like it had no chance to make the playoffs, and made it win. Even though they are not the same explosive Colts, they are competitive every week and have a resilience under Manning that is fantastic. Even though a guy like Drew Brees has better numbers, how much does it matter when his team is not going to the playoffs.
Jordan Baltimore, MD
The ravens just went 3-1 in what was believed to be the best divison in football. they're 10-5 with a couple questionable endings. Any respect for this suprise team?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:10 PM)
I think there is tremendous respect for them. They are a dangerous team with the right makeup to be successful in January. I expected them to have a good defense, but my shock has been at how competitive their offense has been. Flacco doesn't put up great numbers, but he is efficient, and they have the potential for a great run game that can control the clock. They look like a team that believes in what they are doing, and they can take away more explosive components with their ability to dictate the pace and flow of the game.
Beau
What is your prediction for tonight?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:14 PM)
Obviously the Bears need this game. The Packers are just trying to end the season. But this is such a rivalry game in front of a national crowd that the Packers will play hard. This is tough to call. Green Bay is much more explosive on offense, but I don't know if the weather will allow them to make those explosive plays. I just think the Bears will try to make this a ball-control game and avoid mistakes. I just don't like the discipline I see from the Packers. They seem to make enough mistakes in every game to keep them from being a consistent team. The key tonight is if the Bears can establish a physical dominance early, Green Bay may just go away. But if this game is close at halftime, we may have a competitive second half. It's a long answer to a short question. I like the Bears in a close scoring game.
Dan (Nutley, NJ)
Number one team in the league, Titans or Giants?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:16 PM)
I would have to say Tennessee right now. But they are very close and similar. I was most impressed with what the Titans did vs. the Steelers, especially without Haynesworth and Van den Bosch on defense. These are two similar teams in terms of game plans and schemes. With both playing at home through the playoffs, it will be tough to go into Nashville or NYC and get a win. Especially since both have offenses that can adjust to different scenarios. Ironically, what I find to be very interesting is that the matchups we saw this weekend (PIT-TEN, CAR-NYG) could be repeated on championship Sunday.
Jason (Santa Monica, CA)
How about Matt Cassel playing great while his counterpart and QB who played over him at USC (Matt Leinart) struggled on Sunday? When was the last time 2 QB's from the same college team at the same time played against each other in an NFL game?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:19 PM)
I think Cassel is one of the best stories in the NFL. This guy plays with poise beyond his year. His coaches are calling a terrific game with a lot of short passes to move the chains. Cassel seems to be oblivious to pressure. As a free agent, he is going to make a lot of money on his next contract. His progress has been nothing short of shocking. This is almost a throwaway year for Leinart, though hopefully he has learned from watching Kurt Warner.
Jaime
Who will be victorious on Sunday Jets or Dolphins?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:21 PM)
I think this could be a very close game, and common sense would probably tell you that the Jets would win at home, but I do not like the way they are playing right now. I think that Miami plays such mistake-free football that their ability to not turn the ball over could be the difference in this game. As I watch their offense, they are so good at the short passing game, and they have such a good scheme, that they are able to stay in games and win a lot of those close ones. I just happen to like Miami and Pennington in this game. The Jets will look at this as a season they absolutely let slip away.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
If Minnesota loses to the Giants next week, do you think it will mark the end of the Tavaris Jackson era in Minnesota?
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:24 PM)
That's an excellent question. I like the Tarvaris Jackson I've seen the past few weeks, even though they lost Sunday. He is a different guy than in the beginning of the season. He is still young, and his ceiling to become a good NFL QB is actually pretty high. However, this is an organization that thinks they are SB ready, and my guess is they will go and get a veteran QB, with the attitude that that is all that is missing from making them an elite team. Even though Jackson is a very coachable guy with nice upside, I don't know that the Vikings have the patience to stick with him. Their attitude is, we want to win now.
James (MA)
If the Patriots go 11-5 and don't make the playoffs, but the winner of the SD and Den game at 8-8 does is that not one of the biggest shams of the year? Norv Turner does not deserve to coach a team in the playoff!
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:26 PM)
That's the question everybody is asking: maybe the playoffs need to be revamped. Do even the Cardinals deserve to be in the playoffs? I don't know if there is any alternative, because winning the division is such a big goal. SD, Denver, and Arizona can't help it if they are in weaker divisions. But it will be a shame if the Patriots don't get in the playoffs. I would argue that this would have been Bill Belichick's finest coaching job.
Mike (New York)
I've never seen a team more dejected than the Detriot Lions after that loss this week. They literally can't wait for this season to end.
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:28 PM)
I would be shocked if they won this week at Green Bay, even if the Packers don't play hard. They are just a bad football team, and when I watch them on film, the thing that continually surprises me is that I really like Rod Marinelli, and when they hired him, I thought this team would be a disciplined team of gym rats who would battle you on every down. And yet, I don't see that toughness on film. I see sloppy tackling, poor attention to fundamentals, and I've never seen them play a complete game together. I do think there is some talent there. Obviously they are not loaded, but they are more talented than 0-16.
Scouts Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:30 PM)
What I do like now is that we have a clear sense as to who the best teams are going into the playoffs. As we mentioned earlier, if we get a repeat of championship Sunday with PIT-TEN and CAR-NYG, that would give us the best four teams in the league and would lead us to a great Super Bowl. Hope everybody has a wonderful Christmas!
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:03 PM)
Let's see what we can get squared away in this hour. Lot's of crazy games this past weekend and tonight contest does have meaning !
Vinnie (NYC)
Hey Ken... how do you think Coughlin will approach next week's game at Minnesota? I think after he played everyone in last season's regular season finale against the Patriots and saw the positives that came from that game that he will do it again this year.
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:04 PM)
Vinnie,I think he'll "SAY" that he is going to try and win the game but if there is a player that needs a rest , he'll get him off the field early - If Jacobs is banded up he'll sit most of the game, etc.--
Max (MD)
I do believe that it would be a sham for the chargers to get into the playoffs in at 8-8, but people somewhat forget that if not for a miracle jake delhomme pass and ed hochuli's missed call, they are 2-0 at that point and have a much better team mentality. So record isnt the only thing to look at in a team. They have had some bad luck this year to go along with the resiliency that it takes for them to come back from 3 games out of the division with 4 games to play.
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:06 PM)
Max,How about the Broncos not taking care of business at home vs. a marginal Bills club- WOW ! next weeks match up between the Chargers and Broncos should eb a good one!
Jeff (NC)
Does the cold weather in Chicago tonight promote a more ground-oriented attack for both teams?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:08 PM)
Jeff, I think that Da' bear eant to run it anyway but yes, it does promote more of a ground attack , especially if it's windy! Wind is the biggest factor not the cold.
Younger (Los Angeles, CA)
Good to have you Ken. So what's your prediction for tonight's game? It's a must win for the bears and I wouldn't be surprised to see a dominant home performance against the Packers. 24-6?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:09 PM)
Younger,I don't see it as a blow out but they win by ten points- The Bears are not explosive enough to blow teams out but I will say that the Packers defense has really struggled since mid way through the season.
Jared (NY)
What do you think about the jets.
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:12 PM)
Jared,I'm from Westchester County (originally) and know that there is much dissapointment up there but there really is no excuse for this collapse. Not only Favre but coaching decisions and the "D" not showing up the past few weeks can really make a JETS FAN sick !! NO excuse for that !!
Nick (Dallas)
Ken, I've been reading the fantasy boards and everyone seems to think Forte is going to go off. Doesn't the weather dictate a running game by nature and both teams are smart enough to recognize to stop run first and force the pass? I know GB's defense is bad, but if you load up the box 8 deep. C'mon.. It's going to be low scoring. 13 -10 Bears.
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:14 PM)
Nick, Yes I agree that the Packers may put eight in the box but if Orton can get off early in the contest with some downfield passes it will get Green Bay out of crowding the LOS- 27-17 (BEARS)
Younger (Los Angeles, CA)
Amazing game last night. Carolina looked much better than the Giants but somehow they find a way to win. Were you as surprised as I was to see the Giants win that game after the first half?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:18 PM)
Younger, I've read that the G-men are the best team in the league but NOT SO FAST- A gust of wind changed / a hold by WR (Smith) killed them on their last drive- I see the Panthers being as good if not better than the G-men- Watch the Panthers , they can be dangerous !
ELONIU
Can the Bears get to the NFC championship game in your opinion if they win the Division?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:20 PM)
Eloniu,I don't see it but once in the post season anything can happen. This last weekend of football should be great (Vikings with their backs against the wall, Chargers-Broncos contest// AFC East division- LOTS of "STUFF" happening next weekend!
Brett (LA)
Originally from Rockland here! As you know, there's a saying in New York...Same Old Jets. Why anyone is surprised, i havent a clue.
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:22 PM)
Brett,For some reason I thought (especially after the Titans road win)) this year was going to be different--
Danny
How much of a factor is the running game going to be in the first half? And do you think the Kyle Orton's going to go deep early in the game?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:24 PM)
Danny,The ground game should be a HUGE factor in the first half and yes I do think Orton will take a shot deep early as the Packers will likely load up to stop the run-
PATS!!!!
jets need to win next week to get the pats in the playoffs
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:27 PM)
Pat's,That's their only chance --
Tyler (Olympia WA)
do you think the dolphins will be in the AFC championship
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:29 PM)
Tyler, It's all right there for 'em but One good outing by Favre could ruin it for the FINS- Yes I see them getting it done but it just takes one "clunker" to derail great turn around !
Gary (NJ)
Please read!! Devin Hester or Donald Driver in MNF? I'm down by ten points and my opponent has no one playing tonight. Thanks
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:30 PM)
I would go with Driver as Rogers will toss it around more often than Orton tonight --
Bruce (Louisville, KY (jel))
Ken.. Being an expert on the subject who do you think is the best TE in the business?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:32 PM)
Bruce, It dpends on what you like (receiving or blocking) - I like Jason Witten as the best combination of size, athleticism / blocking and receiving !
jason (nebraska)
where does chiefs look first to turn things around
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:35 PM)
JasonK.C. deserves more - NEW GM and head coach - may have to clean house !
charles (Chi)
How about if the bears go 10-6 and not make the playoffs not to mention Az could be 8-8.
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:37 PM)
Charles, Yes and maybe the Chargers winning the division at 8-8 . I know it doesn't seem fair but that's the way it is. The Pats could possible win 11 games and not go t the post season - Some years a 8-8 or 9-7 team could go as a wild card. I like the system as it is , every year is different - HEY , Win enough or sit home!
Roger (San Antonio)
Any update on Orton's ankle?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:38 PM)
Roger, I beive he is still a little "gimpy" but he'll play tonight -
Steiny (NYC)
Will the Jets make the playoffs?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:39 PM)
Steiny,Highly unlikely- Jets have to win and Buffalo (which hasn't beat the Pats in FOREVER) has to bea the Patriots-
Mike (Charleston, SC)
Who do you blame most for the Eagles inconsistency? I feel like Andy Reid needs to be the one that is looked at here.
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:41 PM)
Mike, To me Donavan doesn't have enough weapons around him. Westbrook is greta when healthy but too much is put on how well he performs - They need more perimeter receivers and a better tight end in the passing game--
Tony Romo (sucks in December)
Playoffs? Playoffs?! What do you think my chances are of my Boys and I beating Philly next week?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:43 PM)
Tony,WOW to still have a chance to get in with a win is truly remarkable ! Just run the ball and take care of the Ball and you win vs. PHILLY !
Tyler (Olympia WA)
will the cowboys make the playoffs this year
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:44 PM)
Tyler, You Know I think they will ! They are a better football team than Philly and even with all the "STUFF" that has happened over the past few week's , They put it together and get in on the last weekend of the season.
Chat reader....
Prediction on the score tonight??
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:46 PM)
Chat reader,27-17 DA' Bears !!
Mike (Charleston, SC)
Lack of weapons not withstanding, how do you account for the Eagles always dealing with poor clock management and questionable run vs. pass play calling?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:47 PM)
Mike, That's part of it too but I just think that McNabb doesn't have enugh around him -
Nick (Dallas)
What a pleasant surprise Choice has been for the Cowboys. That being said, will the Cowboys possess the best running attack next year?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:49 PM)
Nick,It sure looks good when they are all healthy- It's good problem to have 3 that can really tote the football-
MW (NY)
Ken,do you see jeff garcia or jon gruden coming back to the bucs if they dont make the playoffs?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:51 PM)
MW,I'm sure that there is lots of talk down there in Tampa but I see them both back next year--
Mike (Charleston, SC)
So essentially you believe that if we got Larry Fitzgerald and Antonio Gates, we win the superbowl. I just feel there are more factors here.
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:52 PM)
Mike,I don't know about the SB but they would be extemely tough to beat !!
Terry (Charlotte)
Ken, it pains me to say it, but Carolina is no where near elite. Over 300+ yards on the ground is inexcusable, even without their best DT. Next man needs to step up, look at what the Titans D-Line did without their 2 best.
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:55 PM)
Terry, Yes that was bad but not until the second half. I saw the Panther "D" playing solid for most of the game (those two runs killed them)- Remember DeAgelo WIlliams ran all over the G-men (most have forgotten that) !
Robert (LA)
Hey, Ken. Why do I feel like the only person outside of Carolina who thinks DeAngelo deserves the MVP more than Peyton and AP?
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:57 PM)
Robert,Williams is excelent but what Peyton has done has been IMPRESSIVE !
jason (nebraska)
colts vs giants superbowl
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (5:59 PM)
Jason, Not bad but I'll go with the Titans and Panthers - I know , I know but it's just an opinon -
Scouts Inc.'s Ken Moll (6:00 PM)
Fella's,I'll be watching tonight (MNF) in the comfort of a nice warm living room- Talk at you next week- Have a wonderful HOLIDAY season !!
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:02 PM)
Don't ever rely on the MBTA to get you somewhere. Ever. Let's do this, Week 16-style.
Barbie (Gilligan's Island Bar)
fried eggs? I love that you were a tight end in college !!
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:02 PM)
Too soon?
Thomas (Fort Bragg)
Do you think the Lions should be moved to prime time so the world can watch history? The Detroit Tigers were on everyday when htey got close to the loss record.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:03 PM)
Nationally? That's not true. I mean, I'd rather watch about four or five games before I see the Lions try to not be the worst team in NFL history.
Steve (CA)
Bill,How do you see Coughlin and the Giants approaching the game in Minnesota?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:04 PM)
A lot of rest. I'd expect Jacobs, Hixon, McKenzie, Tuck to sit.
CC (Atlanta)
Does anyone really want to play the Falcons in January? That offense is really good and the D, while not great, is very disciplined and opportunistic.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:05 PM)
I don't know. Couldn't we come up with these sort of blurbs for every team? After long, we've listed 12 teams we don't want to play in January and we're out of the playoffs.I think Atlanta will be a tough team, though, sure. I fear for Michael Turner's legs with the workload he'd get from two or more playoff games, though.
dave (nj)
hey bill how is the best running back not in the pro bowl? hint : he has 20 tds
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:07 PM)
I think that Williams has a legitimate beef for not being there, yes. He's the best back in the league this year by DVOA.It'll be interesting to see how the Panthers handle his contract situation, I'll say that much.
Jeremy (Illnois)
How do you think the Packers will finish in 09' with an off season not filled with distractions????
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:07 PM)
The Packers are a really good team that's had some real bad luck this year. I think they should definitely be around 9-10 wins next year.
phil (anchorage)
Should the Jets trade Shaun ellis to get a linebacker?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:08 PM)
I don't know. They could use a better guy inside to complement Harris, but they already have Pace on the outside and it'd be rough to give up on Vernon Gholston already. They're not exactly deep at end, either. I'd say that dealing Bryan Thomas for an inside linebacker would be a better move.
CC (Atlanta)
How bout final 4 in the NFC of NYG, CAR, ATL and DAL? That would be huge! Not sure Dallas will make it but if so those area actually the 4 best teams.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:09 PM)
Dallas isn't the fourth-best team in the NFC.
Mike - NYC
Bill, the Gmen squeaked that one out last night, alot closer than I thought it would be. Would you say this team is better or worse than last year's squad?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:10 PM)
Definitely a better team than last year. The offensive line's playing better, Hedgecock's doing a much better job, they have more depth at RB, and the secondary's playing better.
CC (Atlanta)
Can Arizona flip the switch in 2 weeks? I doubt ... seems like whoever draws them in round 1 is very fortunate.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:12 PM)
I disagree. Look at the last two Super Bowl winners. The '06 Colts went 2-3 in their final five games -- with a loss to an awful Texans team -- and then raised their game for the playoffs. The Giants finished 3-3 with Eli Manning in one of the coldest streaks in NFL history. I'm not so sure the effect of hot finish --> great playoff team actually exists.
Younger (Los Angeles, CA)
How funny would it be if the super bowl featured San Diego and Arizona? You think it would rank as one of the lowest watched super bowls in the past 10 years?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:13 PM)
I don't know if I buy the big-market/small-market paradigm for the Super Bowl. Does anyone sit around and think "Man, the Chargers are playing the Cardinals? I bet the commercials are gonna suck!" and doesn't watch?
Kelsey(Texas)
I need 15 pts to win my fantasy league tonight. I have Forte and Grant. Who's the safer bet?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:14 PM)
Forte. Absolutely.
Joe (Essex, VT)
Bill, will Devin Hester be able to get open deep for a bomb or two tonight? Or will Woodson and/or Al Harris be able to effectively shut him down?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:15 PM)
Now that the Packers are finally moving Woodson back to corner, I think Hester should have a tougher time.
josh (OR)
Jonathan stweart is the best
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:16 PM)
Best what? Running back? Not even on his team, my man.
CC (Atlanta)
Assuming they miss the postseason should/will Mangini pay with his job?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:18 PM)
I wouldn't fire him. The expectations for that team were raised when Mangini rode some fumble luck and a natural wave of health (the 2005 Jets were one of the most injured teams in NFL history) to the playoffs. If they go 4-12 that year, then have the '07 and '08 seasons they have now, Mangini looks like he's coaching them to success and finally taken a step forward. I'd give him another year.
Kevin-Illinois
There is no doubt in my mind that Deangelo Willimas should be NFL MVP this year. With 4 TD'S last night against a good Giants defense. He has been the leader of Carolina Panthers carrying them into the playoffs and a solid fantasy player.Matt Ryan should be NFL Rookie of the year with Chris Johnson a close second.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:19 PM)
Meh. Two of those touchdowns were within five yards, that's not any super feat. I'm not a big fan of giving the MVP to a running back, but if I was going to give it to one, it'd probably be Portis or Westbrook before Williams.
dave (nj)
bill, why do you think favre made the pro bowl and not rivers and please dont say just because he is favre?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:20 PM)
I mean, what do you want me to say? That's the answer! He didn't deserve it, but a lot of guys who make the Pro Bowl are on scholarship.
Paul (St. Louis)
Rams coaching candidates next season? Of course we all hope for Cowher here, but that is clearly unrealistic.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:21 PM)
Jim Schwartz. Raheem Morris, although I'm guessing he'll end up taking the Tampa DC job over a head coaching spot. Rex Ryan. Somebody defensive not named Haslett.
Dan (San Jose)
How come nobody mentions Ryan Clady in ROY talks? He's not going to win, as OLinemen never get the credit they deserve, but he's been put on an island all year at left tackle and has been near perfect. Clady for ROY!
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:23 PM)
Well, I mean, Matt Ryan's having the best rookie season of any quarterback since Roethlisberger. That goes a long way. I agree that Clady's been a fantastic performer this year and deserves WAY more recognition than he's gotten -- it's just that Ryan and Chris Johnson are also great.I'll be interested in watching Clady next year -- both Marcus McNeill and Joe Thomas were arguably the best left tackle in the league their rookie seasons, and each took a step back their second year.
Laura (NC)
Do you think the Eagles will part ways with Andy Reid? His lack of commitment to the run game yesterday was inexcusable.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:24 PM)
I assure you that "committing to the run" is an overrated concept that doesn't bear any relationship to success. http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stat-analysis/2003/establishment-clause for background.
daniel
uhh, no considerations for Matt Forte as ROY? I still give it to Ryan, but Forte has to be 2nd.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:25 PM)
Forte's had a good year, but Chris Johnson's had more of an impact on his team's offense than Forte. So much of the Titans' attack is based around using Johnson.
Kirk (Denver)
"Dallas isn't the fourth-best team in the NFC."While I assume you meant they are less than the 4th best team (5th or 6th) I couldn't help but notice the way you said that, do you really mean that the Cowboys are better than the 4th team in the NFC record not withstanding.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:26 PM)
The Cowboys as presently constructed are probably somewhere around the sixth or seventh best team in the NFC.
julio-california
are the 49ers progresing with singletary as the head coach? When is Gore going to have a break out seson?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:27 PM)
2006? If 1695 yards aren't a breakout season, the audience is too harsh.I think the issue with the 49ers and their offense isn't Singletary, but Singletary's relationship with Mike Martz and Martz's personnel issues. The 49ers' personnel doesn't at all fit Martz's scheme, and Martz hasn't really bothered to change it until Singletary came around. I would assume that Martz departs this offseason, a new offensive coordinator (Norv Turner again?) comes back, and the 49ers run a more traditional scheme.
Laura (NC)
Commitment to the run works well for the Giants, Titans, Panthers...
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:28 PM)
Those teams aren't succeeding because they're "committed" to the run, they're succeeding because they're good at running the football. There's a difference. The Eagles running the ball 18 times into the line in the first half wouldn't be productive.
david (stoneham)
What do you think about the job that Bill Belicheck has done with all the injuries that the patriots have suffered. I mean on defense they are playing with some practice squad players.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:29 PM)
I think that's good, but it's not anything new. It also begs the question of why Belichick and Scott Pioli have such a hankering for injury-prone players on defense.
Da Bears!!
Wait a second...you think the Titans offense is based around Chris Johnson more than the Bears....do you know that Forte is leading the Bears in receptions and rushing yards and is also been a great blocking back for a rookie...He IS the Bears offense
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:30 PM)
The Bears have more weapons on offense than the Titans do. I mean, don't get me wrong -- I really like Forte and think he's very important to the Bears. Chris Johnson, however, absolutely positively makes the Titans' offense go.
dave (nj)
folks, get it into your heads the eagles organization is cheap. As long as their owner is there they wont have a good team, you cant win with just two good players
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:31 PM)
Didn't they make the biggest free agent signing in the league last offseason?
John (Minneapolis, MN)
What do you think Denver should try to get in the first round of the draft?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:32 PM)
Some health packs for their running backs? I'd say probably a safety, maybe another linebacker.
chad pennington
hey bill, could you come up with some way for me to get injured again? i'm not used to playing this much of the season and it's really wearing me out
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:33 PM)
That's just mean. I'm happy for Pennington, who looks like he's about to make it through his second full season in eight years as a pro.
Paul (Denver)
Have you watched the Bear receivers at all? They're the most woeful group I've ever seen!
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:33 PM)
Name two Titans wide receivers. Come on.
dave (nj)
mcnabb has no one to throw the ball to other than westbrook
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:35 PM)
The issue isn't that the receivers aren't there -- it's that they don't have a number one guy and everyone's stretched as a result. Kevin Curtis is a #2 masquerading as a #1. DeSean Jackson is a great #3 masquerading as a #1A. Reggie Brown is ... overpaid, that's one the Eagles got wrong. If any team should go out and sign T.J. Housmandzadeh in free agency, it'd be Philly.
Paul (Denver)
Gage is better than any other Bears receiver, with the exception being Hester (talent only).
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:36 PM)
That's already one receiver. The Bears also have Greg Olsen and Desmond Clark.
Lovie Smith (Chicago)
What do I tell the team so we do not get blown out by the Packers again?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:36 PM)
"Dudes. Don't get blown out again."
d (st)
What do the patriots need more LB or defensive back? Who could they get?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:37 PM)
I think James Lauranitis is a pretty obvious fit on the interior there.
Kevin, Boston
Do you think if Dallas gives Choice at least 25 total touches it would lead toa win providing Romo plays a conservative (safe) passing attack?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:37 PM)
You're looking at it backwards, Kevin. Choice gets 25 touches if the Cowboys are winning. That's also not Romo's game, either. I'd concentrate on protecting Romo and running shorter routes.
Nick (Mahopac, NY)
Does anyone think the Jets have any shot at making the playoffs
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:38 PM)
Absolutely. Teams have had to make it through much murkier straits in Week 17 than the Jets will have to.
Lee (Green Bay, WI)
If the Pack loses tonight and next week against the Lions, is there any chance Ted Thompson will be fired?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:40 PM)
I think that would be a really dumb move. It could happen, I guess, but it would be really dumb and short-sighted if it did happen.
Younger (Los Angeles, CA)
Where would you rank Matt Ryan out of all the QB's this year?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:41 PM)
Yeesh. If we're talking performance this year alone, not future potential? I'd put Brees, Cutler, Manning, Rivers, maybe Eli ahead of him?
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
Thoughts on the Titans dominating the Steelers on Sunday?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:41 PM)
Wow, the Steelers offensive line is weak.
Paul (Denver)
Is Orton the long-term answer for the Bears, or should they target Cassel/McNabb?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:44 PM)
I mean, pre-injury Orton was fine. Post-injury Orton, I think you have to target McNabb.
Kevin-Illinois
I think they should have ceremonies after a sports event. That way the home team doesn't lose focus in trying too win the game. IT'S LIKE 75% of the time you will see home teams lose a game when they have a ceremony.Case i point with the Dallas/Baltimore game Thursday. If they have a ceremony after the game is played it won't put that much pressure in them too win.By the way Bill I still like Williams for MVP,Portis and Westbrook have been hurt this year thats not MVP material!
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:45 PM)
I guess. I mean, I got e-mails before the game saying that the Ravens wouldn't be able to handle the "emotional cauldron" of playing against the Cowboys in their final game at Texas Stadium. There are a million ways to justify what happens in a game, but usually, the easiest one is just what happens on the field.
andrew, long island, ny
hey bill. huge dolphins fan here and after enduring and sitting through all these games the past years suffering and suffering, this has been a great season to enjoy. do you think if the dolphins get into the playoffs, they have what it takes to get to the superbowl, and possibly win it? this team has won 8 of 9 and if they make it , it will be 9 of 10 games, and riding momentum is a huge thing in the nfl going into the playoffs. this team is also rlly well coached and dosent beat itself. and how bout chad for mvp? ur thoughts?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:47 PM)
Chad for MVP is ... a little much. I don't even think he's team MVP (that's Joey Porter).I know that it's not what you come to see, but to be honest, anything can happen in the playoffs. No one -- no one -- predicted that the Giants would win last year after Week 17. The hardest part is getting in -- once you're there, a lot of bounces can go your way.
Ken
Given the ups and downs of the Cowboys over the past 4 to 5 weeks, what kind of chance do you give them in Philly next week?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:48 PM)
The Eagles aren't exactly a steady team, either. I'd honestly keep the odds on this one right around 50%, maybe 52% Eagles, 48% Cowboys.
kujo (st. louis)
At this point in time Gage is a better wide receiver than Hester and Bo Scaife is as good as Olsen and better than Clark.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:49 PM)
Gage is like a poor man's Hester. Scaife isn't anywhere near the downfield threat that Olsen is, although I will grant that he's probably a better receiver than Clark.
Chet (Alpena, MI)
Yo. When do you think the Lions are ever going to be in the postseason again?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:51 PM)
It doesn't have to take forever -- remember, four of the eight worst teams in football last year are in the playoff race going into the season's final week. I'd suspect that 2010 would be the first year in a while that Lions fans could have high hopes.
David (Fairborn, OH)
How bout that Cedric Benson....and yes I know the Browns are pathetic, but still. We don't have much to look forward to in Bengaldom
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:51 PM)
38 carries to 9 passes was an impressive split. Did Fitzpatrick just change the play into a run every play?
Younger (Los Angeles, CA)
Which team has the best RB's? There are so many good RB duos and trios but I've gotta go with the Giants' three headed monster. Will the days of stud lone running backs ruling the NFL continue to decline?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:54 PM)
I think it makes the most logical sense -- and it's just a return to the platoon systems we saw in prior decades. I'm gonna say that the Panthers' combination is the best in the league.
Steiny (NYC)
Who is to blame for the Jets collapse Mike Tannenbaum, Eric Mangini or Brett Favre?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:55 PM)
It's just a two-game losing streak. Remember, this is the team that beat the Titans by three scores in Tennessee.
Steiny (NYC)
Do you think Pierre Thomas is going to be just a one-year wonder?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:55 PM)
He wasn't last year...
Andrew (NJ)
What do you think the Giants most pressing needs will be going into the offseason? Personally, the only area in which I see a need is OLB, or maybe even WR?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:57 PM)
I feel like adding another WR would be too much -- they've spent second-round picks on wide receivers, what, three years in a row? I think adding an OLB would be their priority. Maybe an ILB to hedge against Pierce leaving. They're in a very good situation right now, with lots of young talent they're comfortable with incorporating into their scheme at low cost.
Matt (Kansas City, MO)
What do you think of Tyler Thigpen in Kansas City? Starter or should Kansas City draft Bradford or Stafford? I personally would take the second choice.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:57 PM)
I think they have a lot of problems and Thigpen's good enough to get them through right now. Gambling on one of those two seems like a bad idea.
Mike(Utica,NY)
Do you think it's time for Farve to retire and should the Jets trade up in the 1st round to take Stafford if he is there for the taking since Clemens doesn't have a future with the Jets.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:58 PM)
Clemens does and should have a future with the Jets. Not to mention that moving into the top-three would be nigh impossible for the Jets.
Joe (Evansville, IN)
Is it time to end the marvin harrison era as a colt? He is no longer what he used to be... and he absolutely disappears in most games now. I dont think gonzales is a number one or two... is there a free agent out there or maybe someone in the draft the colts could look at?
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:58 PM)
It's safe to say that Harrison's not the player he once was. I think cutting him and offering him a deal at a smaller salary would make sense.
Andrew (NJ)
Giants have the best tandem, as proved by last night. So there, haha.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (6:59 PM)
Yeah. I mean...if you use one game to prove anything, you're doing something wrong.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (7:00 PM)
No and no. You have to remember context. Matt Cassel took over the greatest offense IN NFL HISTORY this year. And was awful for a good portion of the season. Now that's he been alternately very good and respectable the last eight weeks, that doesn't make him an MVP candidate. It makes him a decent quarterback in an elite offense.
Joe (Evansville, IN)
Do you think the colts will look at getting someone to replace addai? I am not impressed with him. He lacks the intelligence to run straight forward... instead he bounces around and gets tackled from behind.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (7:01 PM)
I don't know. I think a lot of that is the line not creating the holes that they're supposed to. Addai's a very talented player who's having a mediocre year. It happens. I do think, though, that getting someone better than Rhodes to back him up would be a good year. For those of you who weren't aware/don't remember, Tony Dungy was a few picks away from drafting Maurice Jones-Drew in the second round of the draft the year they drafted Addai. Yes -- they wanted to spend their first two picks on backs. The Jags just beat them to the punch.
Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell (7:02 PM)
Thanks for the questions everyone -- entertaining as always.
David (Fairborn, OH)
What was the original running back by committee? I remember Ahman Green and Davenport being the real original...at least I think.
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:03 PM)
Well, I remember Chicago having a couple productive running backs back in the 60's.. No, David, it's been done for years..
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:04 PM)
BTW.. I was refering to Gayle Sayers and Brian Piccalo..
Dustin Marengo Wisconsin
I am a huge packer fan.But I dont wanna see the vikings to make the playoffs because of a packer win. So tonight i am saying go bears!
David (Fairborn, OH)
RIP Coy Bacon : Coy Bacon, who still holds the Bengals season sack record with 22 in 1976, died Wednesday at his home in Ironton, Ohio, according to The Ironton Tribune.
andrew, long island, ny
i think that what you said about joey porter being the dolphins mvp this year can be a very good argument, but u still gotta give it to chad in my opinion. joey has been great for us all year and comes up with clutch plays at the most important part of games, but if you look at the dolphins, for many seasons this team has had a good defense post marino era, but it was because they had no consistent qb play that they were never rlly good. pennington time and time again has carried this team on his shoulders this year when asked to whether its lead the offense on a clinching drive, or lead the team to a win , hes done it all, and this is with a recieving corp to start the season of deveone bess, ted ginn jr, and greg camarillio, and now with camarillio out, its even more impressive what he has done. besides for dolphin fans, knownone had a clue who these guys were besides for ginn, and without chad here, we would probably have had either josh mccown or john beck starting, and we would prob at best be a 5 win team. thats why i would give it to chad not only dolphins mvp, but possibly league mvp.
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:06 PM)
Must have been Bill that said Joey Porter is the MVP.. And quite frankly I agree with him.. The defense has fed off of his play and while Chad has played very well and is an improvement over what they had, he really is more of a manager that moves the chains rather than the straw that stirs the drink.
Joe (Evansville, IN)
Hey doug... ok i mentioned something to bill about addai and when he is in open space he doesnt run full speed ahead... instead he bounces around and tries to beat defenders that way. I feel if he ran straight ahead he would do better. Is there another guy out there that could help him be more productive or am i gonna have to watch him stumble around for years to come?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:08 PM)
Sometimes a coach can get a guy to quit dancing and simply stick his foot in the ground to explode up through the hole (no matter how small).. Give Addai another year to see how he improves.. He is extremely talented and you can't just go out and find guys on the street corner that have his run skills.
Andy Reid (Philadelphia, Pa)
What was I thinking only giving B. West only 12 carries yesterday a nd letting McNabb pass for 47 times without a stud receiver in the line up?
kev n.y.c.
wat is ur pridiction for the super bowl,i got jets and giants jets win 27-10
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:09 PM)
G-men and Pittsburgh.. Pit will win it all.
Ryan (San Diego)
Yo dougie fresh, do you think the Chargers are a team to be reckoned with if they win this sunday? A 4 game winning streak with the weapons they have and the experience of last years run could be dangerous
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:10 PM)
Ryan, no one wants to face the Chargers in the playoffs.. They have the potential to be as explosive (on both sides of the ball) as any team out there.. Unfortunately for the Chargers fans, out there, potential often kills you when it is unfulfilled.
David (Fairborn, OH)
Panthers and Titans...Panthers win it all
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
Doug even after yesterdays dominataion by the Titans?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:11 PM)
Yea.. It was a great win for Tennessee but I still believe in Pittsburgh's defense more than Tennessee's (and it is VERY close).
Kevin, Boston
Two more Bronco rbs done for the season. Can Cutler sustain a productive passing attack in light of no running game?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:12 PM)
Somehow Shanny manages to keep coming up with a RB to produce in his offense.. Yes, Cutler can still produce with his arsenal of receivers.
Steve (Syracuse)
But the Titans were without KVB and Haynesworth (who will be back for the playoffs) and still KILLED Ben....I think your crazy Douggie Fresh.
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:13 PM)
I know.. And I have been pushing Haynesworth as MVP all season.. Still I just have this feeling that the Steelers will come through the second time around..
JC (Indiana)
Can we say marvin harrison is finally done being a stud WR? he is completely disappeared in the colts offense. Him and peyton are so out of sync. and when peyton does throw it to him marvin is not where the ball is thrown. Can u see the colts picking up someone to replace him since gonzales is not a 1 or 2 wr... if not what about trying to draft someone in the first or second round?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:14 PM)
Yea, Harrison looks like he may end up somewhere else next year.. The Colts tend to fill holes through the draft, rather than free agency.. I'd expect them to draft another WR this year.
Tyler (Sandusky)
I think the Titans will lose there first game in the playoffs since they havent been in it for a while and then the Pittsburgh Steelers will go all the way to the Super Bowl and win it.
Steve (Syracuse)
I dont see the Steelers beating the Ravens or Colts again if they have to face them.
Matt (Pennsylvania)
how far do you think the ravens will go in the playoffs?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:16 PM)
One win and out.. Their defense can win the first game but I still don't trust their offense enough to get much farther..
MW (NY)
Doug, do you think that the 49ers will go into next year with shaun hill at QB considering his recent sucess?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:16 PM)
I think he will be in the mix but they will open the position to others.. Hill has been a great story but he's not a franchise QB..
kev n.y.c.
harrison got three more years easy there just playin bad it happens frm tyme 2 tyme..
john
i love marvin harrison... but u gotta put up numbers and be a guy ur team can count on when u make that much money and are considered a top receiver in the NFL
MW (NY)
Doug, do you have any thoughts on who the Lions should draft assuming everyone comes out?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:18 PM)
Haven't looked at the players, yet.. But I'd go with the O line, first.. NOT WR or RB.. Maybe D line, depending on how the spring workouts go and the combine, etc.
Big Ben
Hey Doug when do you think everyone is going to notice that I've been hurting the Steelers recently with all my turnovers? Do you think I'll be able to continue to dodge criticism when I fumble and throw picks in the playoffs?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:19 PM)
Yes, that's just who you are, Ben.. Some dumb mistakes mixed in with some passes that few QBs can complete.. That's what you do.. It works for the most part.
Chris (Toledo, Ohio)
Doug, do you think its possible that Tim Tebow avoided voting for himself AT ALL in the Heisman race to try to lower his draft potential, thereby avoiding the Detroits of the world?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:20 PM)
LOL.. No, he's not the first pick of the draft, anyway.. Not a can't miss as a QB but could be a first day guy as a gamble or position projection..
MW (NY)
I think the Titans and the falcons will play in the super bowl with the titans winning 21-13.Going with ATL in the NFC because i trust matt ryan more than jake and slightly more than eli without plax.
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:20 PM)
Personally I'd like to see that happen.. Have a lot of respect for Dimitroff (GM) and Smith (HC)..
rvk (NY)
If the Jets don't make the playoffs is Mangini gone?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:21 PM)
That is what I'm hearing in the rumor mill.
aj
if i was matt stafford, colt mccoy, or sam bradford... i would pull an eli manning if the lions wanted to draft me... who in the world would wanna play for that terrible franchise
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:21 PM)
Look at the Falcons... It can be done quickly if done right..
Jason (Idaho)
How do you think Greg Jennings will do tonight? Do you expect big plays for this GB standout?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:24 PM)
No, he will get his catches but won't be a game breaker.. I think it will hinge on the ground game (Forte vs. Grant).. Both teams have physical corners that can throw receivers off their routes.. Whoever has the best game on the ground will win.
MW (NY)
Are this year's G-men better than last year's?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:25 PM)
When Tuck and Jacobs are healthy, yes, I think they are..
Da Bears!!
I'm in Chicago and it is ridiculously cold!! This game is a going to be a battle of attritution...remember that game last year when the Saints just gave up against the Bears because it was so cold...I see that Packers doing the same tonight
Doc (TN)
How are we 20 minutes in to Monday Night Countdown, and we've spent 5 minutes talking about Favre and no time discussing Forte and his injury?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:25 PM)
From what I hear he is playing.. Anyone hear different?
Matt (Pennsylvania)
Who is the better coach, Jeff Fisher or Tony Dungy?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:27 PM)
WOW.. tough one.. I'd give Fisher a slight edge, only because Dungy has had one of the best offenses in the NFL for the past 6-7 years.
kev n.y.c.
r u kiddin me gb is freez town its going to be a great one tonite...
David (Fairborn, OH)
he's playing. steel toed boot or something of that nature.
MW (NY)
Doug, Will Aaron Rodgers ever be a pro bowl QB? Also do you think the Packers made the right decsion in letting brett go? I think it was the right desicion cosidering brett's recent play. The problem in GB is the running game and the D not Rodgers.
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:29 PM)
He may make it sometime, but I don't label him as a pro bowl type of QB. He is good, but not a difference maker. I think they had to let Brett go and there was no way to truly do that and save face once he decided he wanted to come back.. He and the GM didn't see eye to eye..
David (Santa Rosa, CA)
Hey Doug, thanks for the Miami pick last week. Our elimination pool started with 210 and now we're down to the final 4! There's a lot at stake and I'm looking for your help once again. Who is your "lock" to win next week?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:31 PM)
Miami, eh?? Whew!!! That was a lot closer than I though it would be, but at least they won, right?? This week I'd go with NE over Buffalo.
Younger (Los Angeles, CA)
Who would you rather have on 4th down and one yard from the goaline? Bettis or Jacobs?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:31 PM)
Jacobs, hands down (and I loved Bettis)..
David (Fairborn, OH)
Bengals over KC would be my pick.
FOOTBALLFAN2234
IF THE COWBOYS DON'T MAKE THE PLAYOFFS SHOULD WADE PHILLIPS BE LET GO
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:34 PM)
Don't know that he SHOULD be but he probably will be, if they don't make it.. Holmgren?
Joe (Indiana)
doug... i bet if millen was still the gm of the lions we would be hearing "in the first overall pick in the 2009 draft, the detriot lions select, Michael Crabtree WR from texas tech u.... agree or dis?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:35 PM)
Ouch!! No, even MM wouldn't make that mistake..
Younger (Los Angeles, CA)
How about James Brown or Marcus Allen on the goaline compared to Jacobs?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:35 PM)
I'd take Jim Brown over anyone, anywhere, any time..
jacob (AZ)
Doug who will make it to 5,000 yds passing first? kurt or drew?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:37 PM)
Brees
andrew, ny
atlanta over st louis is my pick.
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:37 PM)
15 points favorite, at this point.. Yes, Atl should win that one, easily.
MW (NY)
Tavaris jackson played pretty well in a loss to the falcons, do you think he has turned the corner and become a decent QB?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:38 PM)
He's getting close, but no, not yet.
Ralph Wilson (Buffalo)
Should I fire Dick Jauron? and while I am at it who should I hire as Head Coach...any ideas?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:39 PM)
No, Jauron is an excellent coach.. Give him good players..
rvk (NY)
Do the Jet's have any shot at Cowher if they don't make the playoffs
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:39 PM)
Don't see Cowher going to NYC..Sorry.
Tampa Florida
Any word on Forte for tonights game
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:39 PM)
He's supposed to be playing.
McCaskey Family
Hey Ralph I think you should fire Jauron and hire Dave Wanstedt
Duel (Columbia, SC)
Will Romo finally come up clutch next week for a playoff berth against the Eagles?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:40 PM)
Yes.
john (SD)
rewind to earlier in the season... sd would have the lead in the afc west if ed hercules i mean hochuli didnt blow the call... i think either way SD is gonna win sunday and make some noise in the playoffs agree or disagree?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:43 PM)
John.. Quit whining about that call.. yes, if SD makes the playoffs they could make a big splash..
Matt (Chicago)
Is Bill Cower overrated? Steelers haven't missed a step with Tomlin and I think the Steelers are such a great organization it really makes the coach look a lot better
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:44 PM)
It's true that the Steelers are a great organization.. But no, Cowher is a great coach.. I have worked with him and have a tremendous amount of respect for the guy..
mike big dog (chi-town il)
bears r goin 2 take care ov buisness!!!!!!!! 2night, wen them bears r hungry, theirs no stoppin them!!!!!!!!!!!

Is the rumor of Dallas looking into hiring Holgram have any ring of truth?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:45 PM)
Could happen.. Jerry is not afraid to make a big splash.. and he and Holmgren are friends.. See them spend a lot of time together at Indy (Combine) every year.
jacob (AZ)
Doug, who do you think will be in the super bowl? I say steelers vs gaints [I would have said my fav colts but theres too much compition in the AFC
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:47 PM)
That is who I predicted earlier tonight.
Steele (Chicago)
Is Forte the type of back that the Bears can build the organization around?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:47 PM)
It's looking like it, at this point.
MW (NY)
Who should win Comeback player of the year? I think Antonio byrant. The guy literally came off the couch to become a top 10 WR
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:48 PM)
He'd be a front runner.
joe
but i thought jason garrett is the coach in waiting in Dallas... hiring holmgren wouldnt that hurt that chance?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:48 PM)
yes, it would.. But Garrett has lost some of the luster this season.
B-rizzle (B-more,MD)
How about them RAVENS
Nick Ryan Ohio
How do you think Deangelo Williams will fair against his next opponent?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:49 PM)
He should put up a lot of yards against the Saints.. They have given up some major yards to top RBs this year.
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:51 PM)
Yes.. first quarter and out.. They will still have a week off, but all the rest they can get will be helpful.. Especially Jacobs who is still not 100%
jose
chi -4 tonight is that a win or not?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:52 PM)
minus 4 is a win
David (Fairborn, OH)
Ray Lewis top 10 all time NFLer
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:52 PM)
WOW.. top ten?? that would be tough to give him.. top 50, yes.. But there have been some great linebackers much less other positions, over the years..
McLovin (Paris, TX)
Ryan Grant or Matt Forte - who should i start tonight? Game on the line, i'm down 5 pts. Opponent has Greg Olsen going.
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:53 PM)
I'd go with Forte.
Susan from Texas
More scoring potential tonight: Driver or Hester?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:53 PM)
Driver.
James North Carolina
Ray Lewis Top 10 all-time at any position?...are you nuts?!
Monique Detroit, MI
Do the colts want to see the chargers in the playoffs
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:54 PM)
No one wants to see the Chargers in the playoffs..
jose
do you think chris johnson gets rookie of the year
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:54 PM)
No, I'd go with Ryan (Atl.)
joe
compare ray lewis to pattrick willis... i love both of them and would love to have either one of them playing for my colts
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:55 PM)
I'd take Willis today.. If they were at the same stage of their respective careers I'd take Lewis.
Scott (Seattle)
Your thoughts on Mora and the seahawks for next season and beyond?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:57 PM)
I like Mora.. but he didn't do it in Altlanta, did he? And he had the same GM drafting players for him (Ruskell).. Does not look real bright for the Hawks in the future.. O line is weak (except for an aging Walter Jones.. No special weapons in the backfield or at WR.
rvk (NY)
I'd go with the Jet's Vernon Gojlston. Oh thats right he doesn't play
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:57 PM)
Ouch.
chris (memphis tn)
How is Forte's foot and will he play tonight?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:58 PM)
From what I hear he is playing..
Ben (B-more,MD)
Who is the best saftey reed or polamalu
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:58 PM)
I love Troy... But I'd take Reed.. He's better in coverage..
Doug (Walla Walla)
Will the Jets fire Mangenius?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:59 PM)
If they don't make the playoffs..
George
Do you see Hester being a pro bowl caliber receiver in the next 1-3 years?
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (7:59 PM)
No he is most effective as a return specialist.. He still does not know how to run routes..
Scouts Inc.'s Doug Kretz (8:00 PM)
Time is up gang.. Enjoy the game tonight..
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:01 PM)
Greetings, all -- hello from snowy Seattle. Ready to talk Packers/Bears, the MVP race, the playoffs -- whatever is on your mind.
Corey (Virginia)
Devin Hester: should he be a WR, a corner, just a specialist, or a combo of these 3?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:02 PM)
Return specialist. He's got some limited ability as a receiver and the Bears are getting the ball more in that capacity, but it's like putting Charles Woodson at safety -- he's great, but in the wrong place.
Brian (DC)
How is Forte for tonight? any new news
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:02 PM)
He's active and ready to go. Wearing extra padding and steel plating in his shoe.
brian (miami,FL)
i have forte on my fantasy team, will he run all over the packers Defense or will he have trouble ?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:03 PM)
If he's healthy, I don't think he has much to fear from Green Bay's run defense.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Miami Dolphins will beat the Jets next Sunday. True Or False? And why? Go!
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:04 PM)
True. They're tougher, better-coached, more resilient, and all that talk about them folding in the cold went out the window in KC. The single greatest one-season turnaround is complete.
Ralph Wilson (Buffalo)
Hey Doug F., Doug K seems to think Dick Jauron is an excellent HC and that I shouldn't fire him. He has had one winning season as a HC, how is that being an excellent HC? Who should I hire if i fire Dick Jauron? Think Cowher would come on as GM and HC if i fire both Russ Brandon and Dick Jauron?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:06 PM)
I think he did a great job last year when the Bills had a third of their roster on IR. This year, the quarterback situation hasn't helped -- it might be time for a change, but that doesn't mean he isn't a good football man.
Rich (Dallas)
What is wrong with Charles Tillman and Nathan Vasher? It seems since they got their money they havent played like we've seen.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:06 PM)
Any Cover-2/Cover-1/Tampa-2 defense depends on the pass rush as well -- that's been a weakness.
Doc (TN)
How does the steel plate affect his running? With the rash of RB toe injuries, why don't they wear it all of the time?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:07 PM)
Good question -- I don't know if the weight mightn't affect his cut-and-plant. Generally, guys want their equipment to be as light as possible with structural safety.
George (Chicago)
Paging Chicago's D-Line...Paging Chicago's D-Line...(My question: where'd they go?)
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:08 PM)
Heh -- good question.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:08 PM)
This is a battle between two disappointing D-lines, Aaron Kampman aside.
joe
what holds in future for mike nolan after being let go from the niners? he was a great def coordinator? is that in the cards or u think an nfl team will want him as a head coach?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:09 PM)
I heard some rumors this week about Billick and Nolan selling themselves as a package deal, which was an entertaining thought. He's a good coordinator who got blindsided by a terrible team in need of a huge rebuild. He mismanaged the Alex Smith situation and that was his downfall.
Gardner household
What is your take on the Mike Holgen to Dallas idea? Do you think he will? Do you think Jerry is really considering it?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:10 PM)
I don't see it. Holmgren is going to want to shop for the groceries, and I think Jones is too much of a roster tinkerer to allow it.
George (Chicago)
Do you see Orton being a legit franchise QB for the next several years?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:12 PM)
Right now, his FO similarity scores have him in with a bunch of journeymen like, well, the Super Bowl version of Rex Grossman, for one. I think he's the near future, and they'd be wose to take advantage of a deep QB class and draft the deep future pretty soon.
Dan (Des Moines, IA)
Give us your prediction for tonights game.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:13 PM)
Weather has me thinking that the Bears will take this one. 24-13.
jp
what do u think the colts will do with marvin harrison after this year? U think they will resign him to a smaller contract, trade him, cut him, or just stay the same? I love marvin... but realistically im just not sure hes what is best for the colts
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:14 PM)
Maybe a restructure, but I wouldn't be surpsised if he's gone. Edge goes to Arizona and they won the Super Bowl. They need another target for that offense and I don't know if he can be that anymore. What they REALLY need is o-line reinforcement.
Susan from Texas
Doug Kretz preferred Donald Driver over Devon Hester tonight for fantasy. What do you think?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:15 PM)
I agree. Remember, Woodson's back at CB.
Kevin, Boston
Does Brees break Marino's record or will the Panthers keep him down like the first time when he did not throw a td?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:15 PM)
It's a bad opponent to break the record against, but if anyone can do it, he can, Best QB in the NFL this year, IMO.
Stu Syosset, NY)
Our two week Super Bowl goes through week 17, and I am dying with my D. I am looking for a strong reach for D/ST next Sunday. Here are a few choices: Vikings vs. G-Men, Jags vs. Colts, Chargers vs. Broncos, Pats vs. Bills. I'm looking for that high upside.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:17 PM)
Vikes/Giants.
phil (Buffalo NY)
do you think it would be a wise move for the 49ers to trade their first round pick to philly for mcnabb since they miss on their first round pick more times than not and do you think philly would take that offer
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:18 PM)
I think they need to figure out what their offensive philosophy is going to be first. Will Martz stay? If so, is McNabb the right guy? They need to get the playbook set first.
Corey (Virginia)
With Rivers' emergence, Vincent Jackson's 1st 1000 yard season, the Chargers' bad run-blocking O-Line, and LT's lingering turf toe, what philosophy do you see Norv going with; will the see the Chargers of old, or the Chargers circa 2008?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:19 PM)
Vincent jackson is the best receiver nobody's talking about, I know that much. Don't be surpsied if the Chargers draft a RB much sooner this year than people may expect,.
anku
for next week...is it safe to start kurt warner againist Seatle or will he be benched like last week...(i started him and gained nothing)
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:21 PM)
I would think they'll get him out there for a while, just to have him going into the playoffs with something other than that NE disaster in his mind. Seattle's pass defense is pretty bad, the Jets game notwithstanding.
George (Chicago)
Do you see Forte eventually being a pro bowler?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:22 PM)
Yes, if the workload doesn't get him. I like that they're throwing him the ball as well and not banging him into the line 400 times a year.
Huh?
What about Sproles?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:22 PM)
Sproles is an awesome change-of-pace back, but too small to handle the full pace.
Tim Passaic, NJ)
What is your sorriest AFC, NFC Div.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:23 PM)
West and West. I'm not really sure that any team from either division really deserves to make the playoffs right now.
deepak ca
Is forte playing tonight. I need 3 points from him
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:23 PM)
Yes.
Bob (Indiana)
Is Lovie Smith that good of a coach or should the Bears move on? To say Bill Cowher, it seems Lovie just stays the same and never makes adjustments!
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:24 PM)
I think he's a good coach. Maybe a new DC is in order? Took the Bears to a Super Bowl, in the playoff hunt now -- there are a lot of teams who would pay millions for his record.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:25 PM)
Thing about Cowher is that I'd want Dick Lebeau as the DC if I paid as much as he's going to want.
Brooklyn, New York
if the bears win tonight. do you think the bears will go to the super bowl?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:25 PM)
Nope. Inconsistent pass rush, secondary, and the aerial attack isn't there.
Pete (NC)
Can you really say a team doesn't deserve to make the playoffs? A teams does what it knows it has to do and that's win their division. If the Pats don't make it and SD does, then the Pats should have won more division games, plain and simple.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:27 PM)
Yeah, but if the Pats are playing three quality teams and the Chargers get the Chiefs and Raiders twice a year, is that really fair?
Martin (TX)
Who would you start? Warner or McNabb? Also, P. Thomas, R. Grant or S. Jackson?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:28 PM)
Warner, only because Dallas' pass rush is outstanding. Don't know how much he'll play, though. If you're talking about Week 17, Ryan Grant faces the Lions. Go forth!
Airick (Maryland)
Does McNabb or Andy Reid need to go? I feel as though Andy should.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:29 PM)
I honestly think it might be best for McNabb to have a change of scenery. I was watching that lopsided gameplan, and the dropped passes, and the failure to get in the end zone on the one catch, and I wonder if he's ever gotten a fair shake on receivers.
Pete (NC)
Fair enough, but Oakland beat Houston who beat Tennessee who beat Pittsburgh who beat Dallas who beat New York. So doesn't that count?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:30 PM)
Pete, my head hurts now.
phil (Buffalo NY)
do you think matt cassel is a result of the system in new england or could he be the answer for another team in need of a quarterback
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:32 PM)
I think he's a great prototype player for what it is they do. He impressed me with his determination to play and play well after his father's passing. He won't have that Moss/Welker combi anywhere else, but I think he's shown enough to have me thinking that he could be a legit starter elsewhere in the NFL.
Gardner household
Do you think this is the year that Romo gets his first playoff win? And will it be enough of a confidence boost to get Dallas to the Super Bowl?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:34 PM)
He's got to stop throwing those airballs. Favre can throw on the run against his body because he's got a freakin' howitzer for an arm. Romo does that stuff, and he hurls up easy pickins' for Ed Reed. He needs to better manage the game before he'll do anything when it counts. This is a good time for him, though -- T. Choice looks really good and the defense is doing well as ling as they're not facing power sets with fast fullbacks!
Chris from Sydney
Gday Doug - any thoughts on what Detroit should do with their #1 pick in the draft?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:35 PM)
G'day, Chris! I think the Lions should take the best offensive lineman at the time of the draft, however the All-Star games and the Combine sorts that out. They must start dealing with fundamentals.
DJ (Roscoe, IL)
Whats your #1 reason why the packers did so bad this year? Was it the lack of Rodgers 4th quarter comebacks, the injuries to barnett and other O-line and Def players, or was it possibly the coaching?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:36 PM)
I don't think it was Ridgers as much as it was a lack of defensive consistency. Injuries to the D-line really hurt them, not to mention the Woodson to safety move.
George (Phi Psi, Ill Iota)
What position should the Bears look at next year 1st in the draft?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:36 PM)
O-line or receiver.
Mike (Long Island NY)
About your answer to Pete's first question about unfair divisions. Would you favor scrapping the division system and having only the two conferences?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:37 PM)
I would, and this season has me thinking about it more than ever. It's tough to take seriouly a system that allows the Broncos or Chargers to get in by default.
tj (NE)
what do u think about josh mcdaniels? he again has proved to be a genius offensive coordinator... is this the year that bill belichek loses him? if so what teams u think could attract him?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:39 PM)
He'llget some good looks as a coaching candidate for sure. Preople thought Charlie Weis' absence would affect the offense, and the 2007 offense was the best of all time.
Corey (Virginia)
With Tashard Choice showing brilliance, and with Felix Jones and Marion Barber being (presumably) healthy next year, who's the odd man out? Will Jones or Choice be like Ahmad Bradshaw, overshadowed by 2 other good RBs?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:40 PM)
We had a discussion about this at Football Outsiders yesterday. Should they try and trade Choice, who;s obviosly the odd man out, or should they keep him for safety in case of injury? I would err on the side of caution and keep him around -- he's really saved their season.
Eric
What's your take on Minnesota's T. Jackson? Do you think he's turned the corner?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:41 PM)
I'm cautious about Jackson at this point. Atlanta is 17th in pass defense DVOA and I'd need to see more.
SM (Santa Clara, CA)
With the Bears getting Chris Williams for the whole season next year (barring injuries), do you still go for O-Line in the draft?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:42 PM)
Yeah, and I really liked Williams coming out of the draft. They need to start building for the future there so there isn't a gap.
Texas
Would the Packers have been better with Favre this year? NO! The same amount of penalties would have been made. Look back at the last 3 games of last season.... the penalties were starting even then!
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:43 PM)
Favre has put up four straight sub-par games against four straight sub-par defenses. Might be time to wrap that one up.
aaron
whats your take on joseph addai? I know hes been hurt this year... but he is not the breakaway threat i think alot of people really thought he would be. I also really dislike the way he runs in open space... hes pretty quick but instead of using his speed in open area he almost trots along trying to beat people with jukes... is there a way to coach him out of this or do they need to find another compliment for him?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:44 PM)
I think Rhdes is a pretty decent second option, but my main convern about the Colts offense is that underperforming line. Aside from the rookie Jamey Richard, I haven't seen a lot that has impressed me. Tough to judge Addai in that context.
Steiny (NYC)
Did you like Wes Welker's snow angel?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:44 PM)
Yes, I did. C'mon, NFL -- lighten up. 15 yards for that was ridiculous.
Steiny (NYC)
Why was Tony Romo awful on Saturday?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:45 PM)
Helium balls to Ed Reed. He seems pretty shaky when he's throwing on the run.
Steiny (NYC)
Should DeAngelo Williams have made the Pro Bowl?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:45 PM)
Without question.
Pete (NC)
Just read the transcript and I can't believe you'd scrap the divisions. Every year there is at least one scrub division. What happens to the rivalries if no divisions? It's worked this long. Just let it be. At least there is a playoff.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:46 PM)
I wouldn't scrap the divisions per se, but I'd do the playoff seeding by record. If you go 8-8 in your division, and you boot out an 11-5 team, I can't see how that's good for the NFL.
Steiny (NYC)
Peyton Manning = MVP?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:47 PM)
Possible - I'm warming up to the idea. Here's what I think, though -- most of the real individual impact players are on defense this year. I would vote for the first defensive NFL MVP since 1971, and my guy would be Troy Polamalu.
Jeremy (IL)
Name of song played durning the best of Monday Night Football?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:48 PM)
Not the Hank Williams one? Don't know -- probably something by classic NFL Films composer Sam Spence?
Peter (Colorado)
Will the Jets beat Miami next week?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:49 PM)
Peter, I dont think so. Miami's ready to complete one of the most amazing seasons in recent memory.
Wes (Va)
Can someone have the 49ers call me for draft suggestions, we really nedd a dynamic reciever look at texas tech, Missouri, florida, Maryland O.K. State, Also Qbs from oklahoma, florida, missouri, texas, also some studs on defense
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:50 PM)
Wes, I'd add some O-line help to the list.
Steiny (NYC)
With San Diego winning and Denver losing, the referee is Ed Hochuli the hook for a botched call that cost the Chargers a loss to Denver earlier this season?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:51 PM)
It's a call, and it's a bad one, and it did affect the game. The PC answer is to say that teams should overcome calls, but with competitive balance being so close in most games, it can be a real killer.I wouldn't be surprised if Big Ed is rooting for the Chargers a bit this weekend.
Ogata (Cin)
Do the Bengals need to get rid of Ocho Stinko?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:53 PM)
Yeah, I think they do. The mouthing off has to be balanced by production, and he hasn't put it up this year at all. Maybe the Bengals and Browns sould do a straight up: Ocho for Braylon. See if either one of them wakes up.
Pete (NC)
Comeback player of the Year: Pennington or Delhomme?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:53 PM)
Pennington.
Brian (NYC)
How big of a difference did losing DTs Maake Kemoeatu and Damione Lewis make in CAR's run defense? Not to mention the 3rd DT was playing on a broken hand. Everyone seems to be forgetting this.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:55 PM)
Kemoeatu would have made a huge difference especially, but remember that Justin Tuck was wobbly from the flu. Poor guy couldn't even walk a straight line by the end of the game. The Giants were just a but better on that night.
Tyler (North Carolina)
How far do you see the Falcons going in the playoffs?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:56 PM)
An interesting matchup would be Atlanta at Arizona. Two dome-style teams with an ability to score, and I could see the Falcons winning that one. I don't know if their defense gets them to the Super Bowl, though.
Steve (Kansas)
Do the Giants have the best rushing attack in the NFL?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:57 PM)
When Jacobs is healthy, probably. As it stands right now, I think we saw the two best rushing attacks facing each other at the Meadowlands. Two great power lines as well.
Cameron (Boise)
Hey Doug Who do you think takes MVP this year? I thought Rivers is most deserving if the Bolts do make it in the playoffs. Whats your thoughts?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:58 PM)
I want a defensive guy to win it. Polamalu's my choice. Offense, I'd take P. Manning.
Adam (NY)
Do you think McNabb gets traded in the offseason? If so, what do you think his trade value would be?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (8:59 PM)
I think maybe a first -- Vikings would be the obvious candidate if Childress is there in 2009.
Adam(Louisville, KY)
Does anyone see the Steelers bounce back in time for the playoffs after their lose yesterday?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (9:00 PM)
Oh, sure. A defense like that, and they're always in great shape. Problem is their offensive line. That's what will keep them out of the Super Bowl.
John (OR)
Do you actually think Brett Favre deserved a Pro Bowl selection over Rivers, Pennington, or Cassell?
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (9:01 PM)
Not at all, but you see a lot of Lifetime Achievement Awards there.
Football Outsiders Doug Farrar (9:01 PM)
Thanks for all the great questions this time and all season. Have a great holiday and take care!
Buzzmaster (9:02 PM)
All right football fans, it's just us for the rest of this one.
Dolphins are Overrated (NJ)
The Broncos are going to choke again!! haha
Buzzmaster (9:03 PM)
There's the holiday spirit.
Pete (NC)
Buzz, it's 4 punts so far. Just FYI.
Buzzmaster (9:04 PM)
A strong early performance for the punters.
Jay (NY)
This is the last MNF game...sad....no more Buzz chats since I actually have responsibilities most mornings. I'll have to make the most out of this.
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
happy holidays, buzz
Buzzmaster (9:05 PM)
Eggnog all around.
Pete (NC)
Making the Playoffs out West, so easy a caveman could do it.
Jets aren't overated (FL)
The jets are who we all thought they were!
Gardner household
is there a way to watch this game for free online?
Buzzmaster (9:05 PM)
Not this season. Maybe next season, who knows.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Sup Buzzwhick.
Buzzmaster (9:06 PM)
Charlie just found the golden ticket.
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
yea, i'll try not to fall asleep at halftime, but to be honest its not looking promising.
Michael (Virginia)
So...if Blackmon barely sort of tapped the ball, the Bears can recover. But you have to POSSES the ball to 'touch it down' at the two?
Keith SC
I hate the bears.. i want GB to win so bad.
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
a nice long conversation about a freakin 1st quarter play isn't gunna help, either.
Buzzmaster (9:07 PM)
Good that we're only now getting to the challenge. It's not cold out there or anything.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Ocho Cinco has said nothing negative all season long amidst all the losing! He did in the offseason but no during. Who do they have to replace him and they may lose TJ to free agency. Makes no sense.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
If the Chargers win against Denver, would that be considered one of the best comeback coaching jobs by Norv Turner?
Buzzmaster (9:08 PM)
I'm not sure it's all that tought to top a list of Norv Turner's best coaching jobs.
David (Fairborn, OH)
what are the odds that I can participate in the chat tonight and not watch the game. A few weeks back I had decent success
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
they could have used that camera time showing the fan with the ski mask with the creepy handlebar moustache drawn on it.
Jay (NY)
This would not be an issue if David Tyree was in the game as the ball would have magically stuck to his helmet.
Rich Rodriquez (Ann Arbor, MI)
Everyone in this chat needs to get a life
Tim (NY)
Ball touched the whites of his socks! They bristled.
Buzzmaster (9:09 PM)
Bristled? Way to expand the MNF lexicon.
Buzzmaster (9:10 PM)
And assuming anyone still has feeling in their fingers, it's first and 10 at the 20.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Rich is right... well, off to go play some World of Warcraft, later all!
Pete (NC)
If the Chargers make the playoffs, a 4-8 team makes the playoffs. Also a certain Ryan goes completely collar crazy.
Nick (CA)
At the start of tonights game Aaron rodgers was compared to Brett Favre it was said that rodgers stats were better than bretts that it was not Rodgers fault they are 5-9. how can they say he is better than brett this year what about Favre is it his all his fault he has less tds or a few more ints who if farve head the same talent on the jets that gb has i think the jets would be in a much better position i dont think you can compare the two unless they have equal talent on there teams if anything i think Rodgers got handed a better team this year.
Buzzmaster (9:11 PM)
Someone needs to ask Santa Claus for some punctuation.
Jay (NY)
Lexicon? Is that the thing in all the commercials with the giant bow on it that the wife used this husbands money to get for him?
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Just kidding. Maybe.
Ogre (Adams College)
World of Warcraft is for NERDS!
David (Fairborn, OH)
forget the bird, mediocrity is the word this year in the NFL
Michael (Virginia)
As a fan...this is aggravating. The receiving team could have the ball bounce off a blocker's head, and it'd be a game-changing play. But the Bears athletics go for naught there. And who doesn't wanna see a 98-yard drive -- or a safety? C'mon!
Buzzmaster (9:13 PM)
Picked off by the Bears.
Jay (NY)
You know who doesn't use punctuation? Serial killers.
Buzzmaster (9:13 PM)
You clearly forget about the semi-colon killer.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Ogre became a nerd! God, how many times do I have to say this before Ogre gets it?
Jessica Simpson (Dallas)
So, like, did anyone else know that Brett Favre guy plays football? Like I totally thought he just was some old guy in wrangler commercials. LOL!
Pete (NC)
That was very Favre-like.
Buzzmaster (9:15 PM)
But Brett would never wear the balaclava
Ryan KY
Hi!
Buzzmaster (9:15 PM)
Kentucky is oddly well represented here.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Here's a good comparison: Brett Favre throws interceptions, so does Aaron Rodgers!
David (Fairborn, OH)
Fun fact, you can't type an equals sign in the non- F5 chat
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
I added my own: At the start! Of tonights game, ''Aaron rodgers'' was compared to: Brett Favre? ''it'' was said that ''rodgers'' stats were better than bretts; that it was not ''Rodgers'' fault they are 5-9!
Taylor (FL)
Well, it looks like Rodgers is becoming the next Favre after all!!
Romo Dallas, TX
What's up with MNF's new double sized graphics bar at the bottom of the screen? Horrible...
Steiny (NYC)
All right everybody, it has been great chatting with all of you this year during the MNF Games. Every week I announce the players of the games. And for the final time this season it is my honor to announce from the Green Bay Packers coming in at 6â??1 225lbs. from Penn State, number 7, Jeremy Kapinos. And for the Chicago Bears coming in at a strong 6â??1 188lbs. from Ball State number 4, Brad Maynard. Ladies and Gentleman those are your players of the game.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Joe Flacco would wear a balaclava...
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
I wouldn't mind a Rex Grossman siting.
Buzzmaster (9:16 PM)
Bears fans wouldn't mind a Rex Grossman sitting.
Michael (Virginia)
Man...sure is good to see people joking about Romo's girlfriend. Helps me forget about those last two defense stands against the Ravens...oh wait, thats right. We didn't play defense...::grumbles::
Ogre (Adams College)
People from Kentucky are NERDS!
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
kentucky is the new china.
Brady (Colorado)
Ba Ba Ba Buzzy. Just got back from eating, Christmas shopping for Dad, and getting stuff that's going to rumble in my tummy in three days. What did I miss? Judging by the score not much, eh?
Kevin (Detroit Michigan)
I want the Detroit Lions to be the first team in history 0 and 16 so they can get a better team if that don't I will go to a Lions game and hold up a sign saying lets go RED WINGS fans need to bring that sign back
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Forte was a great find in the draft
David (Fairborn, OH)
Nah, KY people are tight. Plus the chicks in Lexington are pretty top shelf.
Jay (NY)
Ashley Judd is a hot nerd.
Buzzmaster (9:18 PM)
And speaking of Ashley Judd, we've got no score at the end of one quarter.
Steiny (NYC)
How many times will Brett Favre be talked about tonight? Over under 40%?
Linda (Chicago)
please, someone get whoever is doing the closed captioning OUT OF THE EGGNOG! not one english word in the last 5 minutes! Don't they screen these people? really, I would like to know what is going on. A typo now and then in live TV, or even several, is expected, but come on! at least make it LOOK like english shall we?
Buzzmaster (9:19 PM)
At least they have punctuation.
Jane Denver, CO
Romo, you're right, I HATE that new huge graphic bar at the bottom of the screen. What were those clowns thinking? It's way too big!
Mike (Lexington, KY)
i went to high school with ashley judd...yep she shot me down..:((
Jay (NY)
Oh I bet Ashley scored plenty in her day.
Kevin (Rochester ny)
anybody hear about the rumors about the browns getting rid of braylon edwards at the end of the year???
Buzzmaster (9:20 PM)
Green Bay bikini girls beat Bears drunk guys in freezing weather.
Wayne (CHI)
The bears don't deserve to win.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Not with Mike, Jay.
Cliff Orlando, FL
ROMO, I agree! I have a 10ft HD screen and that stupid new graphics bar at the bottom they've added takes over 1ft off!
ryan ky
i HATE KENTUCKY.
Matt (NY)
OH MAN LOOK OUT KYLE
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
If were keeping on this Kentucky theme... GO ECU, beat UK!
Greg (d.c)
what was that song played during the highlights of mnf
Matt (NY)
Why am I not seeing my comments? This dissapoints me.
Buzzmaster (9:21 PM)
We're all disappointed, Matt.
Jay (NY)
Delay of game? I thought those were for field goal tries.
Buzzmaster (9:22 PM)
Now that was a nifty punt.
Buzzmaster (9:22 PM)
Fukodome couldn't have lined one any better.
Kevin (Rochester ny)
yea it was
Mike (cary IL)
Maynard bears mvp for years
Graphic Bar (Your Living Room)
No, there is no way I took steroids. I'm just naturally huge. I actually took this diuretic to slim down.
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
without question, there is at least one 400 lb guy in the crowd who smuggled in a bottle of goldschlager and will be topless and puking by the end of this quarter.
Michael (Virginia)
How much flex is there in flex scheduling? As it stands now...all of the playoff-changing games start at either 1:15PM EST or 8:30. None of them have that 4:30 slot...or is there more flexing to be done?
Buzzmaster (9:23 PM)
They moved a bunch of games to 4:00, I think. Or at least one or two.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
LOOK, it's gone now. NOW ITS BACK!
Jay (NY)
Suzie! I want to kiss you!
skeeter..
what is the score?
Buzzmaster (9:24 PM)
0-0, but it's closer than the score indicates.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
jets-dolphins moved to 4:15 I think
Steiny (NYC)
Jets game was moved back.
David (Fairborn, OH)
it's winter at least wait till march to bring baseball back
Matt (NY)
Donald Driver is just going right through their secondary. My god.
John, Oak Park ill
Wonder how many people are at game for free? I had 1 girl from work who was going because she got free tics and another 3 guys turned down free tickets who are enjoying it from our couch eating pizza and watching the crew!!
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Michael.... more flexing to be done.
Buzzmaster (9:25 PM)
It's a regular gun show.
Arlen Specter (Washington DC)
Make no mistake about it, I will investigate this oversized graphic thoroughly. ESPN is guilty and I will prove it.
Steiny (NYC)
I was at Justin Timberlake's Southern Hospitality last night. I would recommend it. Great food and atmosphere.
Buzzmaster (9:25 PM)
And Steiny takes the lead in the random comment category.
Dave(Mission,TX)
The Pack look like a team playing for just a paycheck right now
Jay (NY)
Steiny just went down more notches in my book that I have notches. He's at negative.
Seth (Iowa)
If the Patriots and Jets win and the Ravens lose... Are the Jets in the Playoffs?
Buzzmaster (9:27 PM)
I believe so, but that's graduate level playoff scenarios. I'm still in 101.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
this would be the best game ever if it ends tied at 2-2
Steiny (NYC)
I take pride in my random comments.
David (Fairborn, OH)
being in CT, are you a fan of Hartford, buzz? They're only like 6 points behind Villanova right now in College BBall
!!!!packfan
ryan grant needs to come out
Buzzmaster (9:28 PM)
Hartford hasn't been the same since Vin Baker left. Then again, neither has Baker.
Buzzmaster (9:28 PM)
Punt coming up for the Packers.
French Judge (annoyed)
I give Steiny's comment a -9.8. American food is nasty.
Snoop Dogg (LBC)
the playoffs in 2008, it's like this, that and that and a, it's like this and like that and like this and a, it's like this...
Buzzmaster (9:29 PM)
I'm not sure how I feel about fake punts. I don't like being cheated out of a punt. But that one picks up the first for the Pack.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
nice fake
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
that was fun
Jay (NY)
A fake punt?! Exciting but wasted a punt! What were they thinking!
Matt (NY)
I did not see that coming. Wow.
Pete (NC)
Oh the tricky tricky Packers.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
its punt thirty
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
then, 50 years in the future, they will go back to this, recolorize it with future colors and have commentary with old aaron rodgers and old urlacher speaking to the new players - ESPN will call it : The Second Greatest Game Ever Player!
Dave(Mission,TX)
Grant isnt a threat this year and everyone knows it, Rodgers doesnt have that deep threat ability that Favre had last year to let Grant run loose
Steve (Syracuse)
Hey---thats not a punt...
Steve (Syracuse)
nice to see that MNF is going out how it came in....with alot of punts.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Buzz, I agree. Punting enthusiasts around the world just exploded in anger.
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
when matt flynn is on the field, shennanigans are afoot.
Steve (Syracuse)
ARod also doesnt have a great D backing him this year (at least as good as it was last year)
Steiny (NYC)
Ok, ok, maybe the food wasn't that good, but I watched some nice football there and that is all that matters. I am sorry to anger you French Judge.
Tbent
what are these guys taking about saying that Rodgers is 0-7 in the forth quarter? The packs D gave it up by you can't pin it on the QB
Pete (NC)
David, if you're gonna suck up to Buzz, please get it right. Hartford is playing Baylor. Nova is playing Navy.
Buzzmaster (9:32 PM)
Grant looked good there, getting inside the 20 for the first down.
Kendall (Stuart, FL)
C'mon man! Who's the Packer's personnel on the sidelines wearing SHORTS!?!?!?
Dave(Mission,TX)
I agree Steve, the D has died this year
3rd down conversions (bored)
Cmon, someone make one
Michael (VA)
There's a guy on the field in shorts? Crazed, drunk, or super-sexy fans is one thing. But team personnel?
Jack (New York, NY)
Sorry if this reposts by accident. Didn't the refs blow the call on the instant replay / touchback earlier this quarter? It doesn't matter that the Bears player caught the ball and then ran into the end zone with it...the ball was a dead ball as soon as he caught it, right?
Matt (NY)
What sort of whimsical thing will happen to prevent a score this time?
Buzzmaster (9:34 PM)
Nada, TD Packers to Jennings.
Dave(Mission,TX)
Nice throw
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
there goes the possible second greatest game ever... TD Pack
Mike (Lexington, KY)
what a drive....receivers open all the way down the field
Pete (NC)
And with that TD I just won my fantasy league. $$$$$$$$$$
Steve (Syracuse)
Favre couldnt make that throw anymore. just sayin
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
No one cares Pete! (bitter about not making the playoffs)
Mike (Lexington, KY)
congrats Pete....can I borrow some money?
Jay (NY)
Favre can still make all the throws....they just end up in the hands of the wrong team.
Josh (Berea, KY)
I was born and raised in Illinois...the Bears are running an offense showing they have nothing to gain. They act scared. The defense is performing like a prevent defense at the end of a game. This is NOT Bears football. Such a shame.
Weatherman
What is the temperature with windchill?
Buzzmaster (9:37 PM)
Roughly: cold.
Buzzmaster (9:38 PM)
Big return for Manning inside the 30 on the kickoff.
David (Fairborn, OH)
atta boy
Matt (NY)
MANNING WHOAH
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
no, the ball isn't dead if momentum carries the player into the end zone...thats why you normally see players bat the ball away from the end zone, which that guy should have done.
larry
the bears will lose as usual the offense cant move the ball and the defense cant do it all
Michael (VA)
Buzz...I was about to ask you if Hester goes back to his return role next season, since moving him to wideout hasn't panned out. Manning just answered my question.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Haha! Whoever was trying to make that tackle will probably not be on the Packers special teams next year.
Dave(Mission,TX)
Wow Manning is having a killer game so far.....hes a big factor
Matt (NY)
Also it's negative 8.
Jay (NY)
Danielle grew up running from people trying to beat him up cuz of his name.
Steve (Syracuse)
These plays are not helping our NPN-Net Punt Number.
mike (cary IL)
If the bears lose its going to be a long cold winter for sure!
Buzzmaster (9:39 PM)
It's Chicago; it's going to be a long, cold winter no matter what.
Pete (NC)
Mike, I would but these people called Bill and Mortgage and Wife take all my money.
Jay (NY)
Ephraim look at you showing the sports knowledge.....which is obviously a penalty in this chat...get out. now.
Matt (NY)
Good job Orton.
Steve (Syracuse)
dumb reason to wear 38...
Buzzmaster (9:40 PM)
There's that Syracuse academic spirit.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Orton with bad decision number 3!
David (Fairborn, OH)
The bears are ruining hester, kiinda like the chiefs did with Dante Hall
Jack (New York, NY)
Ephraim R., thanks.
Buzzmaster (9:41 PM)
FG makes it 7-3
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
i'll try to make up for it by being extra stupid in the second 1/2.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
I wonder how many Illinois politicians got tickets on the sly
Ryan (San Diego)
The Chargers would whoop both of these teams
Buzzmaster (9:42 PM)
They'd win one out of every two games they played, that's for sure.
Steve (Syracuse)
Yessir Buzz! They teach us well here at cuse.
Michael (VA)
Ephraim...I get that. BUt why does Marion Barber (go Cowboys!) get 'foward progress' at the 25 when the momentum of getting Truck Sticked by Ray Lewis downs him at the 22? Everything is catered to the offense! ::rant::
Steve (Syracuse)
Anyone else find it dumb that the media negates to mention Grant struggling and the defense crumbling with the packer's difference in wins this year? I mean really I think they would have been WORSE with Favre throwing it to the opposite jersey.
Ed Hochuli (Chat Ref)
We have a personal foul, unsportsmanlike conduct against Jay (NY), trying to call a penalty when he is not the chat ref, 15 yards and it remains 2nd down
Jay (NY)
Ouch I just read something that said the Denver Broncos are the New York Mets of the NFL. That hurt, its not baseball season, I wasn't prepared.
Jay (NY)
As Peter Griffin once said: What the hell is a rant?
Norv Turner (San Diego)
I'll take it!
Buzzmaster (9:44 PM)
I've turned off my heat, to show solidarity with the fans in Chicago.
Pete (NC)
I'd say the New York Jets are the New York Mets of football.
Steiny (NYC)
Jay how do you think I feel. I am a Mets fan and a Jets fan.
Mateo (lost in WI)
CAn anyone tell me if they evem have espn here ??? LOL
Matt (NY)
Squibby squib squib.
Steve (Syracuse)
At least the chicagoans dont have to deal with this blizzard...its been below 20 and snowing since Saturday here in cusetown.
Buzzmaster (9:45 PM)
Isn't that usually called 'April' in Syracuse?
Jay (NY)
Yeah me too Steiny....but I'm not married yet. That would be the trifecta.
David (Fairborn, OH)
I bet Al Gore feels like an idiot right now
Steve (Syracuse)
hahaha yeah basically Buzz----we have two seasons: Tolerable and SNOW.
Michael (VA)
I'll trade you my bitter cold for your bitter cold with SNOW. I hate it when its just freakin' cold and windy...snow makes it fun at least.
Pete (NC)
It was almost 70 here on Saturday. It was 18 this morning. I was definitely not prepared for that.
Buzzmaster (9:46 PM)
Nearly a big play from Rodgers to Driver.
Buzzmaster (9:47 PM)
Gotta hurt to lay out on this turf.
Jay (NY)
A great effort?! This isn't elementary school field day...make the catch!
Buzzmaster (9:48 PM)
Although the Lions sometimes look like they're running a three-legged race.
Steiny (NYC)
Hey but a fan sticks with your teams through the good times and the bad. So I do not know about you Jay, but I am sticking with the Mets and Jets. Go Bills on Sunday. I am a huge Bills fan right now.
Joey Bagadonuts
you're confusing weather with climate
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Donald Driver meet frozen field
marc (waterbury ct)
if the bears win out are they in the playoffs? what needs to happen
David (Fairborn, OH)
Forget manning up, I'd throw sleeves on for sure. I did on HS. Comfort is better than not
elbow pads (stores everywhere)
Hey Donald, we don't cost that much
Buzzmaster (9:48 PM)
Ouch, nice hit.
Nathan (chicag)
Wish Tirico would learn that the Bear's punter and kicker are good kickers - not just good cold weather kickers.
Pete (NC)
Flacco would've made the catch and hurt the ground in the process.
Matt (NY)
Smacked!
Mike (Lexington, KY)
i think i saw snot bubbles on that hit
Buzzmaster (9:50 PM)
Less of a star: NFL James Jones or NBA James Jones?
Jay (NY)
Oh I'm a glutton for punishment, I'm sticking with them. I love that 2 letters on the new Citifield sign are already out. I think Citigroup had to write them off.
David (Fairborn, OH)
whatever, maybe the polar bears need to start migrating to chicago, they'd be fine. They could hang with the other Bears.... ha, ha
Mike (Ohio)
So, what exactly was Urlacher doing on that pass to Jones? He certainly wasn't watching the receiver
Matt (NY)
The latter, I never knew there was a James Jones in the NBA.
Buzzmaster (9:51 PM)
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=2009
Pete (NC)
David, I'll forgive you for that weaksauce only because you're from Ohio.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Buzz is quick.
Jay (NY)
What about James Jones the new US National Security Advisor?
Cohete (Waukesha, WI)
Forte's toe looks like it is starting to really hurt. He should just rest. :)
Steiny (NYC)
Love those 2 signs. Passed them the other day.
David (Fairborn, OH)
not a fan of the killers? or just don't like random comments?
Andy (Tokyo, JPN)
I'm watching via online updates, is there a reason why Orton has only throw 5 passes?
Buzzmaster (9:53 PM)
It's negative degrees and the Packers have had the ball more.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
GB is doing a number on chicago's defense now
Mel Ruther Glen ,Va
I have a Statement: Lendale White is a classless slob who will be dealt with. The way he disrespected that terrible towel will be remembered.
Buzzmaster (9:54 PM)
How dare someone disrespect a ... towel?
David (Fairborn, OH)
because is freaking cold.
Steve (Syracuse)
Jeesh does ANYONE want that NFC Wildcard spot? No one seems to want to win for it.
Jay (NY)
The Lions will beat the Pakcers next week...bank on it...write it down, take a picture, I dont give a...
Jay (NY)
Don't forget to bring a towel!
Buzzmaster (9:55 PM)
Life the universe and everything.
Buzzmaster (9:55 PM)
TD Grant
Mike (Lexington, KY)
OMG Grant destroyed someone
Matt (NY)
aww yeah touchdown packers
David (Fairborn, OH)
Not to get graphic, but I'm sure someone in this world has discrespected the terrible towel a lot worse than lendale white
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
The Green Bay Packers are fighting for the NFC wildcard spot.... but I don't think they know it doesn't matter...
Matt (NY)
Sorry buzz, I think that may have been a South Park reference. Towlie for the win.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
42, Buzz?
Mike (Ohio)
Funny how Steltz was considered such a playmaker at LSU last year. Welcome to the NFL, kid.
Steve (TX)
Thank you, Ryan Grant!
Pete (NC)
So my dad and I are playing NFL Pick'em w/confidence pts for a steak dinner and I was up 65 coming into this week. I'm now up only 22. I feel like the Broncos right now.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
if the steelers can't handle the towel getting "disrespected", they aren't half the men I thought they were
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
wow, grant just treated tillman like tillman used all the glue. ON PURPOSE.
Cohete (Waukesha, WI)
The Bears are STILL who we thought they were!!
Buzzmaster (9:57 PM)
All this scoring is really slowing the game down.
Jay (NY)
Don't promote hitchhiking here please, it's a dangerous world, someone will get hurt.
Buzzmaster (9:58 PM)
Especially dangerous world if it's blown up for a bypass.
Christian (High Point, NC)
Well, it looks like the Packers are not looking ahead to next week
Steiny (NYC)
The Bears are who we thought they were one of the most overrated teams in the NFL along with the Denver Broncos.
Mike (Ohio)
Nice kick moron
MT (CA)
Buzz is missing his punts!
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
They did that on purpose?
Mike (Lexington, KY)
will the Bears ever draft a real QB
John Oswego, IL
Somebody tell the guys in the booth that this is the Bears. We haven't had an offense in forever, and the defense has looked old and slow all year. The Bears are 8 - 6 by blind luck.
Chris
Game looked like a sure under but not so much anymore =O
Matt (NY)
Finally, a catch!
Buzzmaster (10:00 PM)
Yikes, I don't think Hester caught that one.
David (Fairborn, OH)
nose hit the ground
Christian (High Point, NC)
Please. No one overrated the Bears. Everyone just thinks they have the advantage because it's in Chicago, Chicago has a running game, and the Packers don't have anything to play for besides pride. No one is expecting the Bears to make the playoffs, or if they do, do any damage while there.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
hester didnt catch it, SNEAKY
Buzzmaster (10:00 PM)
So the false start effectively cost them way more than normal
Mike (Lexington, KY)
that false start was timely...lol
Pete (NC)
Uhhh, all these plays making the game go so long.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Joe Flacco would have scooped that.
Cohete (Waukesha, WI)
Did Hester just lose all his special teams abilities by trying to become a better WR? 0 return td's by him this year?
Mike (Lexington, KY)
i still don't trust the replays....they get it wrong often
Christian (High Point, NC)
Why is everyone complaining about the length of the game? Y'all have dates afterward or something?
Buzzmaster (10:03 PM)
Sleep?
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
I don't MNF for the game, I watch it for Chat Marathon.
Buzzmaster (10:03 PM)
And the punts.
Ed Hochuli (Not San Diego)
That was a catch!
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Orton bad mistake number 5.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
yes, and the punts. That goes without saying to me though.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
thats why Collins plays defense
Christian (High Point, NC)
Why the hell couldn't the Packers play defense like this the last four games?!?
David (Fairborn, OH)
why is keyshawn now being called key? I don't know if I agree with it...
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
kyle orton is man, he's 40. he also has an award-winning beard and designs his own line of men's hats.
Pete (NC)
Tony, they can't boo. They are frozen.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
its too cold to boo
MT (CA)
Punt, punt. punt!!!
Steiny (NYC)
Prior to his officiating career, ED played college football for four seasons at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP).
Dave (Lake Geneva, Wi)
they are playing for their jobs mike
Andy (Tokyo)
Bears fan here. I miss Sexy Rexy.
Zach Rastall (Marinette, WI)
Zach has entered the building.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Why is that guy on the Bucs called Stylez? Now that I don't agree with.
Buzzmaster (10:06 PM)
And that's the half. 14-3, Packers.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
This rootbeer is starting to sneak up on me
Virginia Mike (from Virginia)
He's always been called Key, hasn't he? Just not as one to a successful offense. OHSNAP!
David (San Pedro, CA
somebody up there said detroit over green bay next week...im just making sure everyone heard that so they can sit and have a good laugh...wow!
Buzzmaster (10:06 PM)
See you for the third quarter!
Kyle (Silver Spring, MD)
Well they should punt now since he went no where on the kick. no hope for a score now on this drive!
Buzzmaster (10:21 PM)
And we're back
Christian (High Point, NC)
Wow, 55% of Sportsnation voters have no concept that a football team is more than just its QB. Fascinating.
David (Fairborn, OH)
stop slacking where you at?
Buzzmaster (10:21 PM)
Voting in the poll, of course.
Robert (Raleigh NC)
Evening Buzz!
Marvin Lewis (Cincy)
can we start the season over?
Daniel
This win would set a good tone for the Packers next year
Christian (High Point, NC)
And here comes the punting unit
David (Fairborn, OH)
it's alive!
Zeby (Corinth,Tx)
and the bears just gained all the momentum
Kyle (Silver Spring, MD)
annoying when your team plays better when it doesnt matter....
Pete (NC)
Wow. I just realized how much I suck at wrapping presents. I could learn something from the Broncos in gift wrapping presents very well.
Robert (Raleigh NC)
I do find it funny that this chat is like half members of the MB and then just random people talking sports.
Buzzmaster (10:24 PM)
Orton nearly gives the gift back
Zeby (Corinth,Tx)
watch the Bears give it back
Steve (Syracuse)
more annoying when they muff punts when they have a shot to put the game away eh kyle?
Mike (Lexington, KY)
thats just bad luck for the Packers...hard to avoid that
Virginia Mike (From Virginia)
Ooooo...good one, Pete.
Kyle (Silver Spring, MD)
they gained no momentum...they need a first down to even start talking about that
Ogre (Adams College)
Wrapping presents is for NERDS! Have the people at the stores wrap them for you...they're NERDS! too
Robert (Raleigh NC)
I thought a prison comment was coming at some point from ya Buzz but then about 85% of the people reading would have no clue what you were talking about.
Buzzmaster (10:25 PM)
That's not much different from usual.
Zach Rastall (Marinette, WI)
MBers are slowly taking over.
Buzzmaster (10:26 PM)
Nothing doing, third and goal coming.
Brandon (Minnesota)
Just got back buzz, the gf broke my heart. But a bears loss will ease the pain a little bit.
Buzzmaster (10:26 PM)
Well, that's depressing.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
What is MBers?
Buzzmaster (10:26 PM)
TD Olsen
Taxpayers (North Carolina)
Who is paying for these inmates to have internet access?
Andy (Tokyo)
Bring in the Fridge!!!!!!
Steiny (NYC)
The greatest number of points scored in a single game by a single player (collegiate) was 100 by Leo Schlick of St. Viator, in 1916. Schlick scored 12 touchdowns in one afternoon.
Pete (NC)
Your name is Ogre. And you're heckling me? Pfft...
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Was she cheating on you with Rex Grossman?
David (Fairborn, OH)
The girl I'm dating made fun of me because I wrapped my dad's shirts without a box. was I wrong?
Buzzmaster (10:27 PM)
Yes
The Suits (Bristol)
Buzz, this chat it horrible. It's even worse than in the mornings. Where is The Pulse when we need him?
Buzzmaster (10:28 PM)
It took you 16 weeks to figure that out?
Christian (High Point, NC)
He's in high school, Buzz. All high school relationships are pointless. Sports relationships, on the other hand, are forever.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Wow, I can't even play a game of NCAA without someone walking into my room thus making me throw another interception, THIS IS RIDICULOUS!
Zeby (Corinth,Tx)
14-10, I smell a game
Mike (Lexington, KY)
regifting is always recommended
seth,c.j (V.A)
that last pacers play was a touchdown and you know it.
Buzzmaster (10:29 PM)
I'm not sure Danny Granger's 3-pointer broke the goal line, Seth.
Rick (Wisconsin)
Rodgers Looks sharp tonight. They still Talk about if the Packers made the right move dealing Favre. How many picks do the Pack get in the draft from the Jets and what are the performance enhancers?
Zach Rastall (Marinette, WI)
At one time I could come here and be away from all the MBers, but so much for that!
David (Fairborn, OH)
Books are the best regift. especially when you leave the borders price tag on it
Brandon (Minnesota)
She told me I needed to be more like buzz and i said forget it.
Buzzmaster (10:30 PM)
That's change I can believe in.
Robert (Raleigh NC)
So I need about 13 points from the second half from Jennings and Chicago's D to win my league championship. Buzz just filed this post under "I don't care"
Virginia Mike (From Virginia)
Is that long formula given in that jumpman23.com commercial the ACTUAL formula used for the BCS? Football Rankings decided by a formula with...what, 5 fractions and 3 sets of parenthesis? BOO.
Derek (Wisconsin)
Wasn't Green Bay 13-3 and one game away from the Super Bowl last year? What happened?
Virginia Mike (From Virginia)
The Packers got Performance Enhancers in the trade? Like the ones I get free offers for in my e-mail?
Nate (Madison)
It was the right move to trade Favre.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Did buzz just regift a campaign slogan?
Nate (Madison)
Buzz, RGR is already staking claims on the sole woman in the Facebook group
Dick (Chicago)
Apparently, you can't criticize the ESPN announcers for unsportsmanlike conduct and get it posted here. Bleep, as we say in Illinois.
Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay)
I threw a touchdown pass. My hands are cold and my fingers hurt
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
hah, i saw that. classic rgr.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Bears are gonna pull it out.
Christian (High Point, NC)
Right, wrong, indifferent: It doesn't matter. The Pack would be in the same boat with or without Favre. The defense is the issue, not Rodgers.
Buzzmaster (10:33 PM)
Joe Flacco would fix the defense.
Nate (Madison)
Derek, have you watched their defense play? SHouldn't have to ask that if you have.
Zach Rastall (Marinette, WI)
Derek, Brett Favre happened.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
and the Dolphins won 1 game last year...jets should have kept pennington...see the point
Mike (Ohio)
Imagine that, Mike Brown injured.
MW (NY)
What ever happened to Hester as the greatest return man ever? That was fun for about 2 years.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Well now your back is going to hurt cause you just pulled landscaping duties.
Christian (High Point, NC)
Hasn't anyone watched the Jets the past two decades? Nothing close to performance enhancers has been within fifty yards of their locker room.
Zach Rastall (Marinette, WI)
Nate's here?! I'm thinking about leaving.
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
i've started to post up my collection of terrible sports autographs on the group...
Christian (High Point, NC)
I figured it went without saying, Buzz.
Donn (Reno)
Is MBers like DaBears?
Zach Rastall (Marinette, WI)
Bears are gonna be the Giants of last year.
Buzzmaster (10:34 PM)
They're not going to sign Barry Bonds?
Steve (Syracuse)
MW- same thing with Dante Hall a few years back
Steiny (NYC)
Buzz, sportsnation is my most visited page on firefox. Thought I would let you know that.
Jay (NY)
Oh my god one of my female friends is venting to me right now....how the heck did I get in this...and its not the beer vent.
Steiny (NYC)
I have never chatted with half the people in the facebook group.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
a hurricane could hit green bay and it would be Rodgers' fault
MW (NY)
The defense and the running game falling apart is what happened the pack. If you have been following brett favre recently you would know the pack would probably be 3-11 with him.
Derek (Wisconsin)
I see the same players on defense, and different players, 1 in particular, on offense. Not sure what you see.
Nate (Madison)
Festivus less then 3hrs away.
Buzzmaster (10:36 PM)
Packers call a timeout? Boo.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Sometimes I come to sportsnation on thursday nights just to see if there was a TNF chat going on I didn't know about...
Steve (Syracuse)
haha jay---i wonder if the pack lose this game how they are gonna blame it on a-rod...
Brandon (Minnesota)
Lance briggs is one big dude.
Matt (Wynnewood, PA)
Happy Chanukkah Buzz.
Nate (Madison)
I see those same players, aside from Woodson and Collins *most the time*, playing worse. Look up the offensive and defensive rankings.
Steiny (NYC)
MW, Hester has changed. Accept that.
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
to put it into context, the best authograph i have is probably a tie between lee mazilli and macky sasser.
Buzzmaster (10:37 PM)
Did Sasser throw the pen over your shoulder trying to give it back to you?
Steve (Syracuse)
Yeah---we should have chats every night---i generally get bored without htem.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Romolicious
Robert (Raleigh NC)
Buzz are we chatting Friday morning?
Buzzmaster (10:38 PM)
On Boxing Day?!
Matt (Wynnewood, PA)
I don't get a "Happy Hanukkah" back?
Buzzmaster (10:38 PM)
It's implied.
Mike (Ohio)
The sad thing is that he probably paid Sasser for the autograph.
MW (NY)
Derek, just because they are the same players does not mean they are playing the same. Also PLEASE watch one of the last jets game and tell me favre is better than rodgers.
Nate (Madison)
Buzz, I think Andruw Jones was sending you an autographed jersey for Xmas.
Dan, Florida
Note 5: Whenever a team presents an apparent punting formation, defensive pass interference is not to be called for action on the end man on the line of scrimmage, or an eligible receiver behind the line of scrimmage who is aligned or in motion more than one yard outside the end man on the line. Defensive holding, such as tackling a receiver, still can be called and result in a 5-yard penalty and automatic first down from the previous spot, if accepted. Offensive pass interference rules still apply.
Christian (High Point, NC)
Ah, the ol' timeout followed by a false start. A 2008 Packers Special.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Kleinsasser
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Favrilicious.
MW (NY)
They should have at least tried a screen
Steiny (NYC)
I love how you spelled Hanukkah different both times.
Robert (Raleigh NC)
Bed time. See ya'll in the morning for the MB. For those who have no clue what the MB is.....well...I won't see you in the morning.
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
hah...no, sasser gave it up for free, it was before he lost his mind and forgot how to throw the ball back to the pitcher..
Brandon (Minnesota)
Buzz wouldnt you rather have a 1998 Autographed Ryan Leaf jersey?
Andy (Tokyo)
Just in case you're wondering, it's the emperor's b-day in Japan. A national holiday, I guess
Mike (Ohio)
Block in the back...was obvious there
David (Fairborn, OH)
translation: prison guards called lights out
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Is MB the Morning Buzz?
Buzzmaster (10:41 PM)
Ding
John, Junction City
Tavaris Jackson or Tyler Thigpen, which would you rather build your future around as a franchise. Thanks
Buzzmaster (10:41 PM)
The Arena League isn't playing next year, so I can't answer that.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
49 points in the first half, can I get 100 by the end of the game?
Steiny (NYC)
MW, sarcasm is hard to understand on the Internet. Are you saying Rodgers is better than Brett Favre?
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Someone is impostering me, this is awesome!
Rick (Wisconsin)
But seriously, I thought I heard that the Packers get a few more draft picks if Favre performs well and if last years record for the Jets vs this year is any indication. I am just wondering how many more the Pack get? Would help the D line and O line and Pack could be Vegas sleepers next year.
Zach Rastall (Marinette, WI)
Buzz or the Pulse: Who would you rather build a bad chat around? Thanks...
Joe (New York)
I would take Aaron Rodgers over breet farve any day of the week. At least he is somewhat consistant.
VA Mike (from VA)
Chris Fuamatu-Ma'afaala...Obafemi Ayanbadejo...man, those would be two fun autographs to have. You'd need something big for them to sign.
Buzzmaster (10:44 PM)
I stick with Tshimanga Biakabutuka
Buzzmaster (10:44 PM)
Bad series for Orton there. So much for momentum.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
brett likes wranglers....i am more of a levi man
Matt (IN)
Ball underthrown? Hit him in the hands. Cmon stone hands, make a catch.
Matt (IN)
Nah, just write 'Chris' and then a few scribbles. Piece of cake
Nate (Madison)
Rick, they don't get more draft picks, they get a higher pick for him I believe based on how many snaps he takes and how far the team gets. Ithink they are at a 3rd or 4th round pick as of right now.
Chris (FL)
Packers get a 4th round pick no matter what, 3rd rounder if Favre takes 50% of the snaps over the season, 2nd rounder if the Jets make the Playoffs, and a 1st rounder if the Jets make the Super Bowl
Pete (NC)
Buzz, Orton drove them to a punt. How is that a bad drive?
Buzzmaster (10:45 PM)
Touche
Brady (Colorado)
Buzz can you tell Zach that I hate him? Thanks mate.
Christian (High Point, NC)
Considering how Favre has played the last few weeks, and that Rodgers likely would've been a FA this offseason if Favre had played for the Pack this year ... it seems pretty obvious to me the Packers made the right choice.
Steiny (NYC)
It is Chris Fuamatu-Ma'afala. Not Chris Fuamatu-Ma'afaala.
Jared (Subway)
Don't forget, $5 footlongs all day, every day at Subway!
MW (NY)
Hester will never be a great WR. The bears just have to hope he does not become the next dante hall.
Buzzmaster (10:46 PM)
Or the next Mel Gray.
David (Fairborn, OH)
i think im digging this benjamin button movie
Buzzmaster (10:47 PM)
How curious.
Nate (Madison)
That new Brad Pitt movie where he's an old man baby thing, kind of freaks me out.
David (Fairborn, OH)
Dude Dante Hall was dope. Don't you dare slander his name
Steiny (NYC)
MW, are you saying that the Bears should have kept him at CB?
Ed Hochuli (Chat Ref)
We have a personal foul against Buzz for pulling an old school name like Mel Gray out, 15 yard penalty and repeat 2nd down.
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
you don't kick to mel gray.
Buzzmaster (10:48 PM)
Well, unless you have Rohn Stark or Reggie Roby.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Steve Tasker was awesome!
Buzzmaster (10:48 PM)
Big play for the Packers, gain 34
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Ed, stop talking, or I'll put a nfl bounty on you.
Buzzmaster (10:49 PM)
Best Wisconsin Finley since Michael was a Badger.
Christian (High Point, NC)
The Bears don't have a single pass longer than 30 yards this year. The NFL average is 5. The Bears defense has given up like 5 tonight.
Matt (IN)
Rohn Stark...when the Colts first moved here, he was the main weapon.
Buzzmaster (10:49 PM)
And Dean Biasucci
Mike (Lexington, KY)
does anyone know mel gray's middle name
MW (NY)
No, steiny i dont think hester ever played CB. I am just saying that the bears shoud not rely on him as a no. 1 WR.
Cary (Seattle, WA)
Would take Rodgers any day of the week too, weekends and the occassional Thursday on the other had would go to Favre.
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
you don't kick to johnny lam jones, either.
Doug (Shrewsbury, PA)
Or Glyn Milburn.
Steiny (NYC)
In a poll conducted by ESPN in 2008, Hochuli tied referee Mike Carey for "best referee" votes among NFL head coaches with eight.
Brandon (Minnesota)
Rodgers throws off his back foot a lot. I wonder who he learned that from.
Pete (NC)
Buzz throws out these names trying to impress the Suits. But he doesn't realize they don't really care about his chats and are already sleeping.
David (Fairborn, OH)
Herman Moore and Brett Perriman with Barry Sanders....now THOSE were the days.
David (IN)
Unable to watch the game, Yahoo has Bears D with a FR and an INT, ESPN only appears to have INT. Who's right? (no offense, I hope ESPN is wrong, I need the points)
Chicago
I was in my fantasy league's championship and I started Andre Johnson, Calvin Johnson, Tampa Bay's D, and Forte. Needless to say, I lost.
Mike (Ohio)
Good lord Driver. Catch the freaking ball.
Buzzmaster (10:51 PM)
FG is no good for the Packers
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
You don't kick to Joe Flacco.
Nate (Madison)
Wow Buzz....some UW history there.
Buzzmaster (10:52 PM)
Rashard Griffith!
MW (NY)
Driver needs to catch that ball.
Nate (Madison)
Was that a Rich Ankiel pitch? Nice job Crosby.
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
why would anyone know mel gray's middle name? i mean, if you know it without looking it up, there's gotta be some kind of story behind that.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Drogba would have made that
Buzzmaster (10:53 PM)
Berbatov would not have
Nate (Madison)
I'm boooooing myself. INstead of being at the bar with my buddies, I'm at home finishing some stuff for work tomorrow.
joe
I think if Aaron Rodgers is "sooo good" then why hasn't he taken the Pack to the playoffs. Brett Favre did that with the same team as Aaron Rodgers has this year.
Christian (High Point, NC)
It's hard to catch when you're being hugged
Buzzmaster (10:53 PM)
Woodson comes up with the pick for the Pack
Nate (Madison)
Rashard Griffith was a stud....over in Turkey.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
his middle name is Junius...i heard it a long time ago and just thought it was so strange
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Does Buzz know any Delaware Blue Hens history?
Brandon (Minnesota)
Pick for the Pack. I bet the Bears are gonna chant We want Rex.
David (Fairborn, OH)
how come the first quarter went so fast but now its soooooo sloooowww
Steve (Syracuse)
Joe- because the defense collapsed and people figured out Ryan Grant. ARod has great stats this year.
MW (NY)
terrible throw!! Bears fans might start chanting for rex gross man
Lisa (Chicago)
I think we found our Franchise QB for Chicago! doh!!
Rob (Philadelphia, PA)
Why can't the Bears run the ball? Any news on why Forte hasn't been in the past couple drives?
David (Fairborn, OH)
i'd take junius over apple any day personally
Mike (Lexington, KY)
QB's are to Chicago what wins are to the Bengals....few and far between
Buzzmaster (10:55 PM)
I had that one on my SAT.
Mel Junius Gray (running somewhere)
I know my middle name because, well, it's my middle name. You know?
Buzzmaster (10:56 PM)
At the end of three, it's 14-10 Packers.
Jared (Chicago)
Ya Briggs! Get Some!
Pete (NC)
Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman named their kid Sunday. And not yesterday. They actually named it Sunday.
MW (NY)
I think we are starting to see why ryan grant was traded by the g-men.
Christian (High Point, NC)
Seriously, people. If you think the Packers demise can be traced to having Rodgers over Favre, you're in the wrong place. I recommend finding a cooking forum, or maybe knitting. Some place that doesn't require sports knowledge. Or, you know, the Morning Buzz.
Buzzmaster (10:57 PM)
And what's wrong with cooking forums?
Steiny (NYC)
Rich Gannon went to Delaware.
Matt
Gotta be able to run the ball in cold weather, as the G-Men showed last night.
Christian (High Point, NC)
Hasn't Chicago had over 30 different starting QBs over the past 17 years? I'd say there are way too many QBs in Chicago, not too few.
Future Mrs Allen (Screaming)
HE WENT TO JARED!!!
Buzzmaster (10:58 PM)
And got a $5 foot long sub.
Jim (Bristol ,CT)
jerry rice? ... nuff said?
Mike (VA)
Better question: How many starting QBs have the Bears had since JoePa started coaching at Penn State?
Buzzmaster (10:59 PM)
Trick question. Football didn't use the forward pass for some of those years.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Consumerist society!
Christian (High Point, NC)
Go for it, McCarthy. Please. For once in your coaching career, go for it.
Nate (Madison)
I hate Jared
Nate (Madison)
If they run Kuhn, I'm downing a beer ASAP
David (Fairborn, OH)
whatever happened to the classic names? I had a great great great uncle cyrinius. They don't make names like they used to. I'm going to bring it back and name my son cyrinius whenever I have one.
Buzzmaster (11:00 PM)
Pack going for fourth and one ...
Buzzmaster (11:00 PM)
First and goal
Brandon (Minnesota)
Why are they going for it!!! Come ON
Robert (Huntsvile, Al Via Colorado)
Is anyone else hoping the Pats don't make the playoffs just in spit of Simmons?
Jared (Ottawa, IL)
if the packers get a TD its over
Buzzmaster (11:01 PM)
So that's where Jared is.
Cyrinius (Fairborn, OH)
I've travelled back in time -- please, father, don't name me Cyrinius. I'm beat up constantly. How about Joe? Please name me Joe!
Buzzmaster (11:02 PM)
And we're right back to third and goal. Would they go for it again here on fourth?
MW (NY)
That run was pathetic.
Ryan (Minnesota)
only time i want packers to win this year
Robert (Huntsvile, Al Via Colorado)
It's colder in Alabama right now than it is in Colorado. I'm glad I'm at least enjoying nice mountain views...
Buzzmaster (11:02 PM)
Incomplete on third.
Brandon (Minnesota)
I thought it was Jared Allen that was Jared.
Rick (Wisconsin)
Rodgers Happy Feet. Tap Dance for the Arron!
Christian (High Point, NC)
Wow, the graphic almost jinxed them. You have to do FG here, I think.
Lisa (Chicago)
C'mon man! Looks like a FG anyway!
Buzzmaster (11:03 PM)
Why not just go for it?
MW (NY)
3 passes of first and goal. Last year they pound it in with grant.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Favre would have thrown a TD and I know this because you can't prove otherwise
Buzzmaster (11:04 PM)
Yes, but a TD pass to which team?
Matt (Wisconsin)
Crosby has had a terrible season; at least he made this one
Mike (Lexington, KY)
well played Buzz
Ken (Arlington)
Is Forte injured again? Gosh, Peterson is awful.
MW (NY)
Brett favre would have chucked the ball up in the air as high as he could and then when it was intercepted and returned for a td he would try to act as if this shocked him.
David (Fairborn, OH)
Sidney Crosby has had a great season!
Christian (High Point, NC)
Because 4th and 1 is a lot easier to convert than 4th and goal from the 10, Buzz. Take the easy 3 and hope your defense still has its groove back.
Buzzmaster (11:06 PM)
Yeah, but your season is over. Why not take a chance?
jt (St Louis)
up by 2 points with Forte, he has Jennings for the title. Uh, please run Forte a little....
Nate (Madison)
Buzz, White Fang is on tv. Don't know why I mentioned that, just thought I should
David (Fairborn, OH)
dude white fang was tight. book was better, but ethan hawke was a-okay
Robert (Huntsvile, Al Via Colorado)
To quote George Carlin, Take a bleeping chance once in awhile you bleep bleep bleepies!
Nate (Madison)
People have to realize that a lot of plays last year were created by the WR making a great play, not just Favre making a great throw.
David (Fairborn, OH)
am i ungrateful for having a job but not wanting to work tomorrow or half of xmas eve?
Brandon (Minnesota)
Buzz who would you rather have on your fantasy team? Adrian Peterson or Adrian Peterson?
Buzzmaster (11:08 PM)
Adrian Dantley.
Rick (Wisconsin)
Off his heals into double covrage, fires everything with no real touch.Ya I would say Rodgers picked up on some of Favre's traits.
Matt (Davie, FL)
Farve haters will be shocked next game....Dolphins are going down.
Packersville
This game proves that the Packers are obviously much better than the Bears.
Steiny (NYC)
Nate, random comments are cool right.
Christian (High Point, NC)
What chance is there to take, Buzz? They're winning the game. More points is more points. If they're down by 7, I could see the argument. But not in this situation.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
This Favre chat is boring and redundant. Favre is old, he's not coming back. Give it up guys.
Buzzmaster (11:09 PM)
Brett Favre isn't walking through that door!
Steiny (NYC)
Matt Forte was projected to have 25 rushes for 124 yards and 2 Touchdowns. Ok then.
David (Fairborn, OH)
I tell you I wouldn't want Adrian Beltre on my fantasy team
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Adrian Brody.
Mike (VA)
How you know your QB situation is bad...it takes FIVE FOOTNOTES to explain it on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago_Bears_Starting_Quarterbacks#Notes
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Time for Orton to chuck one up for grabs
Ryan (Minnesota)
cant believe the Packers are winning. they usually stink
Brenton (Washington,DC)
The Packers defense loss them the season this year not aaron
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Adriana Lima
Tim (Springfield, IL)
I would like to keep Orton's pass numbers low. As a Bears fan it seems like a key to victory.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
The Bears should have drafted DOnovan McNabb
Buzzmaster (11:10 PM)
Hester having bad luck with that part of the field.
Rick (Wisconsin)
Can Orton Bring the Bears back?
Mike (Ohio)
With his helmet on Orton looks like Tim Allen did when he grew a beard
Andy (Tokyo)
If Ron Turner doesn't know which play will be best, he should press the "Ask Madden" button
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Could we say Forte's forte is football?
Christian (High Point, NC)
Need I remind everyone that the Packers beat the Colts and destroyed this same Bears team by 34? They've only lost one game by a significant amount. They're not slouches. Just unlucky, undisciplined, and pissing me off nonstop.
Matt (Davie, FL)
Nice pickup there for Chicago.
David (Fairborn, OH)
there are famous Forte's too. John and Joe
LC
CHICAGO WILL PULL IT OFF
Cary (Seattle, WA)
Favre has something almost no QB's have, the ability to make magic!!! Bad or Good magic no one can forsee but he has it all.
(IL)
I either see an Orton pick or a field goal coming.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
No Daily Show at 11....please just be this week
Steiny (NYC)
Lets see. Does anyone else see something wrong with this. Green Bay has thrown to 10 different receivers and Chicago has thrown to 4.
Rick (Wisconsin)
Packers Draft some big Run stoppers this year and that Defense will be great.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
I rub onions in my eyes for fun.... also known as watching this game.
Dan (Jersey)
After not covering his face in the NFC Championship game last year, Tom Couglin would've gone out without a coat for this one!
Scott (Dallas)
Yo Adrian!!
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Cary, could we call Favre Merlin? David Copperfield? David Blaine????
Matt (Davie, FL)
Although he didn't do much on Sunday....grrr....
Buzzmaster (11:16 PM)
And that might be your Bears season for 2008.
Buzzmaster (11:17 PM)
Orton picked off again
Christian (High Point, NC)
I like this Orton kid. He got spunk.
Tim (IL)
And there it is!!
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Interception - you knew it was coming
Brandon (Minnesota)
Wait! I think I hear those We want Rex chants
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
orton hears a boo...
Matt (Davie, FL)
Pack getting the whole team involved. I like that.
Buzzmaster (11:17 PM)
Orton's getting their whole secondary involved.
Mike (VA)
WOW, Mike just jinxed them...by giving a mind-blowing stats. 9:36 in the 4th quarter...and its Chicago's first FIVE PLAY drive? Holy cow, this is called getting OWNED...
Mike (Lexington, KY)
and Vikings fans rejoice
Rob (Philadelphia, PA)
Great call on an Orton pick there
Dan (New Jersey)
Call Favre Shakespeare. Loved for something he did ages ago, and completely incomprehensible to modern society.
Buzzmaster (11:18 PM)
So Favre was written by someone else?
Steiny (NYC)
Nick Collins from Bethune-Cookman with the big INT.
Matt (Davie, FL)
Yep....that is called running out of luck.
Christian (High Point, NC)
Again, where the hell was this defense the last four games?
Brandon
How about bringing Urlacher, Tillman, and the rest of the crew on the field while the Bears have the ball? It seems like the offense is playing more D than O anyways. At least we know Da Bears D can put up some points!
Brandon (Minnesota)
Im rejoicing. Until the bears come back and win. Then the vikings choke in the last week of the season.
Jeremy (California)
The Pack finally starts playing half decent...after they are eliminated from the playoffs (go figure).
Buzzmaster (11:20 PM)
Run the clock
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Dan, that makes me wonder... is Shakespear good because of what he has done or because we have some dubious records of what he has done....
Matt (Davie, FL)
Getting to crunch time now.....Bears need a stop.
Christian (High Point, NC)
One: Shakespeare is nowhere close to incomprehensible. They're called Cliff Notes. Two: Buzz, don't even try with the 'Wm S didn't write it' shtick. Next you'll be claiming aliens faked the moon landings.
Rick (Wisconsin)
Will do the Chicago Fan Chant "Wait till Next Year!" Doesn't matter the sport.
Herm Edwards (home)
Run the clock? What? YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!
Mike (Ohio)
Wouldn't it be funny if Hester broke one?
Steve (TX)
Yeah, everyone knows the CIA faked the moon landings.
Christian (High Point, NC)
Brendan: A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet.
Buzzmaster (11:23 PM)
As true now as when de Vere secretly wrote it ...
Rick (Wisconsin)
Orton Gets another chance to show Chicago they need to draft a QB this year.
Matt (Davie, FL)
Good defensive stand there. Bears are going to get the ball back with some time left.
Dan (New Jersey)
If you need Cliff Notes to understand something than you really don't understand it.
Buzzmaster (11:24 PM)
Like Rex Grossman with the Bears playbook.
Brandon (Minnesota)
I miss the old scoreboards that they used to use on the broadcast. Wow wasnt that random.
Buzzmaster (11:24 PM)
Big run Forte, inside the 30
David (Fairborn, OH)
why do i remember holmgren more for Green Bay than Seattle?
Mike (Ohio)
Buzz, is it really news that David Wright is going to play for the US team in the world baseball classic? I mean, yes, he's a good player, but is this really news? I blame and loathe ESPN.
Steiny (NYC)
You are only a real sportsnation guy if you stay here all day. Start with the MB. GO through all the chats and end with Buzz. I did that today.
Rick (Wisconsin)
Gee did the Bears just Run???
Chris (FL)
My high school english teacher would base the tests off the cliff notes...of course that guaranteed a's for everyone.
Christian (High Point, NC)
Did I mention the Packers have been pissing me off?
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Forte is running all over them.
Christian (High Point, NC)
Buzz also thinks the DaVinci Code is a work of nonfiction.
Pete (NC)
Steiny. Man. That is some day you had. Yeah. Wow...
Matt (Davie, FL)
Red zone alert!
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Steiny, the only real important part of Chat Marathon is Buzz.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
good job Bears play for the FG
Steiny (NYC)
It ain't over till it is over people. This is getting interesting.
David (Fairborn, OH)
play action it to dezzy clark
Buzzmaster (11:27 PM)
Hester a yard short. What do you do on fourth?
Brandon (Minnesota)
Big fourth down play coming up
Steiny (NYC)
Pete, off for the Holidays, need something to do.
Christian (High Point, NC)
INT time!
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
INTERESTING!!!
Ian (Chicago, IL)
Mike McCarthy's play calling is atrocious. The packers aren't really playing well, but his super conservative "run the ball when they get past their own 30 thing" is going to cost them the game.
Buzzmaster (11:28 PM)
Timeout with 3:41 to go.
Steiny (NYC)
Go for it.
Matt (Davie, FL)
I say go for it. You really have no choice.
dave
you go for it
Christian (High Point, NC)
You have to go for it and hope your defense makes a stop if they fail.
Buzzmaster (11:28 PM)
The Earl of Oxford couldn't have put it better.
Rick (Wisconsin)
Oh Oh Bears Time out! Orton wants to discuss his next INT.
Christian (High Point, NC)
I think Ian is watching a different game from the rest of us. Ian, hit the Live button.
Buzzmaster (11:29 PM)
Stuffed, but where is the progress?
Mike (Lexington, KY)
the Bears will get nothing and like it
Steiny (NYC)
Nice stop by Brandon Chillar. He is everywhere today.
Brandon (Minnesota)
Wow that was really close
David (Fairborn, OH)
got it easily
Dan (New Jersey)
C'mon 1st down! I want overtime!!!
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Oh no, did he get it?????? SO CLOSE!
Christian (High Point, NC)
Buzz: Verily
Buzzmaster (11:29 PM)
First down on the spot.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
BARELY BARELY GOT IT!!
Christian (High Point, NC)
His head looked like it crossed the line, but it didn't look like the ball did
Dick Vitale (ESPN)
You gotta love the Earl of Oxford baby! A true PTP'er! He's awesome baby with a Capital A.
Steiny (NYC)
Bears are learning to keep it out of Orton's hands.
Rick (Wisconsin)
No Way! He didn't get that.
Buzzmaster (11:30 PM)
TD Forte
Greg (Houston)
Forte!!
David (Fairborn, OH)
god no overtime i need sleep
Buzzmaster (11:31 PM)
I don't care who wins, as long as someone does it in regulation.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
DOH....I think a heard a turtle drop in Minnesota
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Dick Vitale... if he's awesome with a capital a, why didn't you capitalize a?
Mike (Ohio)
Cmon Lovie, go for 2. Go for the win.
Forte owners (Championship Games)
YEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH
Steiny (NYC)
Go for 2.
Christian (High Point, NC)
Blocked PAT coming up
Matt (Davie, FL)
And you can see that I'm on delay.....TD Chicago!! This one's not over, folks!
John Madden (On his couch)
So Matt forte ran up the gut on 4th down and the pack defense was like BOOM. But that didnt stop Matt. No way. He went up the middle on 1st and goal and went BOOM touchdown.
Jerry Jones (Irving, TX)
Obviously Lovie Smith isn't tough enough to go for 2 and the win.
David (Fairborn, OH)
I'm gonig to teach little cyrinius to be a long snapper. That's how you get into the NFL. They're at a premium.
dave (california)
why who cares if it goes into overtime
Buzzmaster (11:32 PM)
Easy for the Pacific time zone to say.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
classic Norse division game
Rick (Wisconsin)
Here comes Rodgers This is were you will see if he is Favre esq
Jay (NY)
The people at that wild wings place called the ref to extend the game.
Ryan (Minnesota)
come on Packers!!!
Dan (New Jersey)
I'm rooting for a tie. How often has there been two ties in the same NFL season?
Donovan McNabb (home)
Remember people, they keep playing until somebody wins even if it goes to overtime.
Buzzmaster (11:34 PM)
The pooch kickoff doesn't work so well.
Buzzmaster (11:34 PM)
Neither does the 15-yard flag.
The Dish (San Juan via Elgin, IL)
Hey, it's 12:33 here in San Juan, and I'm still up, suck it up
Pacific Time Zone (PST)
C'mon, hurry up, I'm missing House!
Brandon (Minnesota)
HAHA big mistake by da BEARS!
Steiny (NYC)
Green Bay might fool everyone and punt on first down. Their best chances are to get the ball in Orton's hand on 3rd and long.
Christian (High Point, NC)
Nice long return, and a pointless foul! Thanks, Chicago!
Ephraim R. (Thomasville, GA)
yikes that was dumb
Jay (NY)
The pooch kickoff and the prevent defense need to go to the island of misfit strategies.
Matt (IN)
What a stupid, stupid penalty. Cmon Peterson. Moron.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
OMG what a flagrant PF
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
The fake Adrian Peterson for the big mistake.
Buzzmaster (11:35 PM)
And throwing on first down why?
Dan (New Jersey)
Whoever commited that penalty just wants to end the game and get off the field, and with the temps I don't blame him.
Mike (Ohio)
Nice stats for Rodgers there.
Jay (NY)
McCarthy has Grant on his fantasy team.
Buzzmaster (11:36 PM)
James Jones with the first down inside the 20
Chris (FL)
Let me get this straight Buzz, you wanted them to go for it on 4th and Goal, but now don't want them to try and win the game by throwing?
Buzzmaster (11:37 PM)
I'm rooting for the clock.
Jeff (Chesapeake, VA)
Does it really matter?...the Bears aren't going anywhere.
David (Fairborn, OH)
Why not? Mix it up like a bag of nuts.
Brandon (Minnesota)
Adrian Peterson tackles poorly while Adrian Peterson fumbles regularly.
Matt (Davie, FL)
Wow......that may have just cost Chicago the ball game.
Christian (High Point, NC)
Buzz just hates that incompletions stop the clock.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
3 runs and a FG
Pete (NC)
I don't blame you Buzz. We all whine about having to work too.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Hawaii needs a football team.
Brandon (Minnesota)
Vikings 2 minutes from the playoffs. My last memory of the vikes in the playoffs was when Randy Moss fake mooned the packers crowd....Good times
Christian (High Point, NC)
I have no interest in seeing this Adam Sandler film, but I must admit, Keri Russell is looking fiiiiiiine
Steiny (NYC)
The penalty was on Adrian Peterson. He was jealous that he is not the best Adrian Peterson in the NFL so he took his anger out on a Green Bay Packer player and in return received an Unnecessary Roughness penalty.
hafnerfan
is it weird for me to have a man crush on matt forte right now
Doug Pretty (Waterloo, IA)
First down at the two minute warning. How many timeouts does Chicago have left?
Buzzmaster (11:39 PM)
Uno
Mike (Ohio)
Nice shot of the stereotypical Bears fan when they came back from the commercial
David (Fairborn, OH)
No hafnerfan, I have a man crush on Rajon Rondo right now. It happens to the best of us
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
If I could clone people, I'd create an all Flacco football team. The Flacco Flaccohols, Joe Flacco and his clones would play every position. In Madden, they'd all be rated 99 at every position. They'd win the superbowl every year until another all-Flacco team played them in the superbowl, then it would just be a Flacco tie.
John (Calgary, CN)
I'm tired of hearing about the Bears history at QB and WR. If they ever had an offensive coordinator who would open it up once and awhile, maybe the QBs and WRs would have better success
Christian (High Point, NC)
Bears are now out of timeouts
robert philadelphia,pa
I got aaron rodgers and mason crosby left for me tonight on my team to win my fantasy championchip,I hope they can pull it out for me.
Jay (NY)
Draw Four!
Chris (FL)
Someone please tell the Bears to let GB score a TD.
Jeff (Chesapeake, VA)
It's about time to put a fork in the Bears.. they're done.
Matt (IN)
My best memory of the Vikes in the playoffs was Kerry Collins killing them 41-0, along with Moss short arming everything that came by him once the Giants took the lead.
Bubba, Greenville, WI
Lovie gotta go - pooch kick and repevent defense has cost da bears two games this season. Bring back Ron Rivera...
Buzzmaster (11:41 PM)
FG attempt coming
Doug Pretty (Waterloo, IA)
Now, can Crosby nail the FG when it counts?
Mike (Lexington, KY)
FG made and Hester returns one for a TD
Matt (Davie, FL)
Jay, reverse back to you..... ;)
Christian (High Point, NC)
I don't recommend going for it here.
John (Calgary, CN)
Problem is Hester isn't returning kickoffs anymore and they'll squib it anyway
Brandon (Minnesota)
If Crosby misses you will all hear loud screams. Coming from the minnesota area.
wes
Crosby! I believe in you!
Chris (FL)
No way he makes this.
Buzzmaster (11:43 PM)
Blocked. Sigh.
Brady (Colorado)
Oh my God....
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
BLOCKED BLOCKED!!!
David (Fairborn, OH)
screw that, I'm going to bed
The Dish (San Juan via Elgin, IL)
Blocked!
Pete (NC)
So that's what Minnesota sounds like.
Christian (High Point, NC)
*bangs head against keyboard* fiopjgq ei
Buzzmaster (11:43 PM)
Wow, that was a line drive of a kick
Steve (TX)
Wow ... just wow.
Blocked kicks (everywhere)
You forget about us. You watch the games and root for scores and then bam! There we are.
Steiny (NYC)
Buzz, get Mason Crosby on the chat tomorrow.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
MISSION IMPOSSIBLE MUSIC WAS NECCESARY!!!!
hafnerfan
whoever blocked that deserves a klondike bar
Chris (FL)
Packers just cannot close out a game this year, it's unbelievable.
Dan (New Jersey)
Was there a single packer offensive lineman who beat his bear counterpart on that field goal? It seemed like the whole defense came through.
Doug Pretty (Waterlo, IA)
Crosby seems to choke on important FGs. Shanked a game-winner in the last Minnesota game, and another one here.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Don't sigh Buzz, rejoice! We get to watch another quarter or so of mediocre football!
Matt (Davie, FL)
Looks like OT in Chicago folks!!
Steiny (NYC)
Alex Brown from Florida is having one hack of a game. Two tackles a INT and a blocked kick.
Jeff (Chesapeake, VA)
The Bears have new life!!.. who would have thunk it....
Brady (Colorado)
Sad but True, by Metallica is now in order.
Steve (TX)
So, I get to stay up late and watch the Bears luck out two weeks in a row? There oughtta be a law.
Christian (High Point, NC)
Now I can't wait for someone to say that if the Packers had Favre they would've made that kick
Buzzmaster (11:46 PM)
Flacoo would have made it.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Wait a second.... Mason Crosby got blocked at the beginning of the year, which made me lose my first game of the season by 1 point.... all I needed was 1 win to get in the playoffs.... MASON CROSBY YOU SUCK!!
Pete (NC)
two straight OT games. i hate football. freaking kickers.
ian (Chicago, IL)
It's not unbelievable. With the way they have been playing this year, very believable.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Well I know Anelka would have made it
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Joe Flacco would have kicked the ball so hard it would have broken his arm right off and still go thru the uprights!
Drew (NYC)
Sorry Vikings fans, haha Bears get ball too.
hafnerfan
Spoiler Alert: Forte breaks a long one on the first play for a TD and everyone in minnesota puts out a hit on Mason Crosby
Jeff (Chesapeake, VA)
Bears.. playing for overtime and praying for the coin toss... lol
Brady (Colorado)
I wonder if Orton knows that the game can end in an overtime....
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Ref needs to learn how to flip a coin.
Christian (High Point, NC)
Don't they have to reflip if it hits someone in the helmet?
sCOTT (ny)
iS THAT WHY aNELKA WAS SUBBED OFF
Andy (Tokyo)
I hate having to watch games via gamecast updates, but I will say it does add a little tenseness waiting for an update on a FG. I can also shop for X-mas while waiting.
Dan (New Jersey)
Brett Favre would have willed that field goal in with his mind!
Steve (TX)
Look on the bright side ... maybe Crosby gets a second chance to have a kick blocked in OT.
Jeff (Chesapeake, VA)
I still think that the Bears will find a way to lose this game... I Believe... I Believe...
Rick (Wisconsin)
Packers should try an on side kick.Hey they have nothing to lose...
Christian (High Point, NC)
So what are the odds we get an Orton INT here?
Matt (champaign, IL)
Imagine if the bears ever tried to get a good offense. Every year they settle for a mediocre, at best, offense and a defense that creates turnovers and wins them games.
Drew (NYC)
Brett Favre (Jet fan, also known as me, cries).
Chris (FL)
NFL needs to adopt an OT system where both teams get the ball. Much more exciting.
Buzzmaster (11:49 PM)
I like the overtime where neither team gets the ball.
Buzzmaster (11:50 PM)
Flag on the Packers, turnabout is fair play.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
More Horse Collars.
Carlo (Green Bay)
Packers have no chance now. Yet another heartbreaking game-winning FG loss. Sigh.
Roy Williams (injured)
I wish these guys would stop trying to tackle like me.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
Green Bay needs to gerd up their loins
Brandon (Minnesota)
A Pick 6 would be a gift from the football gods
Buzzmaster (11:51 PM)
Bears already in (very long) FG range.
Drew (NYC)
Wow Gould can hit it from there.
jr (SLC)
they should have a scrum, the ref drops the ball at the 50 and both teams run and fight for it, like a jump ball in BB
Ryan (MN)
A tie wouldn't be that bad for the Bears here.
Rick (Wisconsin)
That was a weak horse collar if your going to do it do it good!
Lisa (Chicago)
That wasnt a Horse collar!!
Mike (Lexington, KY)
big tackle behind the line
Steiny (NYC)
I said before. It ain't over till it is over.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
wow behind the lines.
Buzzmaster (11:52 PM)
Big first down Forte on the pass.
Steiny (NYC)
Game set match.
Mike (Lexington, KY)
UhOh spaghetti-o
John (gainesvile , GA
this is a good game
Dan (New Jersey)
Wow, a completion from Orton!
Christian (High Point, NC)
Nice missed tackle there. For all those who haven't watched the Packers this year, this game is a perfect microcosm of what's gone wrong.
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
Forte slips. Why is the field so slippery now?
Fat Lady (Chicago)
Is it too early to sing?
Drew (NYC)
I like checkmate better Steiny.
Matt (Davie, FL)
So if you are Chicago, do you try to win it here? Or do you keep playing for the TD?
Steiny (NYC)
Don't worry Robbie Gould from Penn State. Joe Pa would be watching but it is past his bedtime.
Buzzmaster (11:54 PM)
FG attempt on third down
Mike (Lexington, KY)
turnabout is fair play...block it
Jeff (Chesapeake, VA)
Send the Packers packing...
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
what if this kick gets blocked?
hafnerfan
watch gould get blocked and the packers win
Matt (NY)
Gould is not 'Gold'. Spell your name right
Clutch kickers (everywhere)
Time outs don't bother us, they just give us a chance to focus
Doug Pretty (waterloo, ia)
Is there much wind in the stadium tonight? How tough would a 37 yard kick be?
Drew (NYC)
Chicago fans, maybe you don't have to start watching basketball and hockey. Not to mention the Bulls suck.
Justin (Chicago)
My heart...ouch...
Greg (Houston)
I seem to hear a lot of cheese heads crying in their beer.
Buzzmaster (11:55 PM)
Bears win!
Jeff minnesota
Vikings get jobed even in Chicago!
Brendan (Louisville, KY)
BEARS WIN BEARS WIN BEARS WIN!!!
Pete (NC)
Thank you! Bed time.
Christian (High Point, NC)
I hate this team.
Matt (champaign, IL)
Not one kicker I'd want instead of Gould.
Brandon (Minnesota)
I am calling in sick for the MB tommorow.
The Dish (San Juan via Elgin, IL)
Bear Down, on to Week 17
Buzzmaster (11:56 PM)
All right, it's been a great season of MNF chats. Thanks to all for stopping by and we'll see you next year!
Pete (NC)
The NFL has to love having week 17 games that actually matter. Oh the drama.
