We've rescheduled Matt for 2:15 p.m. ET! Stop by then to chat!
Jason (NYC)
It's 2:30, we gona do this thing?
Matt Mosley (2:28 PM)
Sorry fellas. I'm here. Fire away.
Josh in Chicago
If the Panthers and Giants do in fact wind up facing each other again for the NFc Championship, who wins and why? Jeff Chahida seems to think the Panthers will despite personally ranking the Giants #1 and the Panthers #4.
Matt Mosley (2:30 PM)
I think it will be another incredible game, but I'd put my money on the Giants. They'd obviously be playing at home again. And I like Eli Manning over Delhomme in that situation. Tuck wasn't quite right and the Giants didn't have Robbins. They would prefer putting a lot more pressure on Delhomme. Williams found some space against the Giants' D. I haven't talked to Chadiha about this, but I'd stick with the Giants at home.
Jon Schein (Monument,Co)
What team deserves to win the AFC west division, the Chargers or Broncos.
Matt Mosley (2:32 PM)
Jon, no team deserves to win that division. It's an embarrassment to the league for an 8-8 team to win the division. I wish you had to have a winning record to even qualify for the playoffs. I'm hoping the Chargers win because they have a better chance of making noise in the playoffs.
Mark in Grass valley, CA
Hey Matt, if the cowboys don't make the playoffs and dump Wade Phillips, do you think Bill Cowher or Mike Holmgren get a look from Jerry Jones?
Matt Mosley (2:34 PM)
Mark: Right now, Jerry Jones is acting like he's going to keep Phillips -- as hard as that is to believe. The man hates to admit when he's wrong. He says "Bill Parcells Jr. isn't walking through that door." Well, Jerry let Sparano get away. And the Falcons, Dolphins and Ravens certainly found coaches their proud of. I can't imagine Jerry staying with status quo if the Cowboys don't make the playoffs. No on Cowher. He'll at least call Holmgren
Roddy (Los Angeles)
Matt, How does Norv Turner continue to get HC jobs? He's horrible. He's got a top 5 talent team in the NFL and is HOPING to squeak in with a .500 record. Pathetic. Good ol boy network huh?
Matt Mosley (2:35 PM)
Norv got that team to a title game last season. He has earned immense respect as an offensive coordinator. He's just brilliant in that regard. And that's what owners can't get past. They feel like that has to translate to a good head coach. As we've seen with Cam Cameron, it doesn't always work that way.
Rick (Kansas)
Thigpen is looking pretty good for the Chiefs behind a suspect OL and a lack of talented running backs. Think he's the answer for this team long term as far as QB's are concerned or should they still look to take a QB high in the draft?
Matt Mosley (2:36 PM)
Thigpen's an interesting kid, but you have to keep working the draft. If Bradford's there, you better take a long look.
Otto (CA)
What product do you use?
Matt Mosley (2:37 PM)
Bed Head
Rod (NY)
Matt, what do the 'Boys have to do to pull off a win on Sunday? I don't have much confidence right now, but I'm trying to talk myself into it. Thanks.
Matt Mosley (2:38 PM)
Rod, the Cows caught a huge break with that game being moved back. By kickoff, the Eagles will know whether or not they have a shot at the playoffs. That's a huge emotional hurdle for a team to overcome going from a team with a chance to playing for pride.
Cosmo (Anytown, USA)
I can't figure out what to be more angry about - how Reid/McNabb conduct a 'hurry-up' offense? or how the Eagles have WR's that just can't catch. Which is worse?
Matt Mosley (2:39 PM)
Cosmo, the worst thing about is that Reid didn't even try to do anything on the ground. If your receivers are dropping everything, then hand the ball to Brian Westbrook. And do it a lot. It's a crime not to give that guy at least 25 touches a game. Reid coached his way out of the playoffs in that game.
Terrell (Dallas)
How did your fantasy team do this year?
Matt Mosley (2:41 PM)
We had a tremendous year in the Art Vandelay League. DeAngelo Williams and Brandon Jacobs delivered. Tony Romo was excellent when he was healthy. We sort of patched things together at receiver with T.O. (10 TDs) and Bowe. Bucs were superb. And K. Boss is finishing strong.
Sam (Norma)
Matt, it seems like DeMarcus Ware and James Harrison are getting all the hype for Defensive Player of the Year, and rightfully so, but why isn't Troy Polamalu getting more mention? He's the best football player I've ever seen.
Matt Mosley (2:43 PM)
Sam, that might have something to do with our familiarity with Polamalu. We pretty much expect him to be great, so his six interceptions and fearless plays don't wow us as much as they used to. With Ware, we're talking about a guy who's chasing the season sack record. He's been phenomenal. And Harrison is an absolute beast. Teams have to game plan for him more than any other player on the Steelers. He and Troy might split the vote.
Oscar (TX)
How you got that Dallas stable of RBs shaking out next season? Shouldn't they move Barber for receiving help?
Matt Mosley (2:44 PM)
No, not at all Oscar. Are the Giants trying to move Jacobs simply because Ward and Bradshaw are so talented? Nope, You gave Barber all that money to be your hammer. He softens things up for Choice and Jones. We've seen Choice for three games now. He's been superb, but let's not overdo this.
Lloyd Braun
Whats the solution in Philly in 2009? I say Reid has to go, while my buddy thinks McNabb has to go so stubborn Reid might start running the ball a little bit.
Matt Mosley (2:45 PM)
Lloyd, it's great to hear from you. And yes, I respond to all Seinfeld characters. It's way more likely that McNabb goes than Reid.
James (Los Angeles, CA)
Do you think any changes need to be made talent-wise or just with the coaching staff for the Boys next season?
Matt Mosley (2:47 PM)
James, I don't think talent is the question. Didn't this team have 13 Pro Bowlers a year ago? Some of that's fool's gold, but you definitely have some talent. Jerry said he had the best coaching staff he's ever had. I would argue with that based on what we know now. You have to make a change at head coach, but Jerry doesn't seem ready to do that. Wade will do whatever it takes to preserve his own job -- even if that means cutting the legs out from under his good friend Brian Stewart.
Jim-NYC
Hey Matt, just wanted to say it's been great reading your stuff and getting insight on all NFC East teams this year. I initially dismissed you as a "Cowboy Guy," but have changed my mind and enjoyed your balanced look at each team, including my beloved G-Men. Looking forward to the playoff blogs!
Matt Mosley (2:48 PM)
Why thanks Jim! Merry Christmas
Sarah, New Mexico
Will the Cowboys pick a QB in the upcoming draft?
Matt Mosley (2:50 PM)
Sarah: The Cowboys have refused to draft and develop young quarterbacks. They lucked out on Romo and haven't done anything in this area since. They passed up Brady Quinn in order to get a draft pick and draft Felix Jones. I'm not saying it's a smart approach, but it's the one Jerry's taken.
Otto (CA)
If the 49ers retain Mike Sigletary as HC, do you think Mike Martz would want to stick around and work under him? I can't see him being happy in that situation.
Matt Mosley (2:50 PM)
Martz is under contract. Unless someone offers him a HC job, he's there another year.
brian
I'm wondering if Hock Hudson is going to be back witht he cowboys, seem like the offens line went backwards witht hat guy around.
Matt Mosley (2:51 PM)
Brian, the Cowboys organization never recognized what it had in Tony Sparano. And that's a shame. Houck's a fine coach, but this O-line did take a step back. Houck's soothing approach doesn't work with guys who need a butt-kicking like Flozell Adams.
Kenny Banya (On Stage)
If McNabb were to go, where are the cities that he would most likely go?
Matt Mosley (2:53 PM)
Chicago has needed a quarterback for 20 years or so. That would be a good place to start. McNabb also has history with Brad Childress in Minnesota. Keep your eye on that situation.
LaVarr (D.C)
Matt, what do see my are as my odds of getting back with my former team. Don't you think Fletcher and myself would be an outstanding tandem???
Matt Mosley (2:53 PM)
slim and none
Frank (Florida)
Do you Tebow succeeding in the NFL? If so, what position?
Matt Mosley (2:55 PM)
Frank, I had a famous scout tell who's based in North Texas tell me that he sees Tebow being a great NFL quarterback. A lot of it's based on his high character and ability to command respect in the huddle. He thinks Tebow, will will himself to success in the NFL.
Jimmy (The gym)
Jimmy wants to know, as an Eaglees fan, if Jimmy should continue to hope for a Christmas miracle this weekend. Jimmy's fingers are crossed. Do Jimmy's Eagles have a chance or should Jimmy expect them to be on the golf course next week?
Matt Mosley (2:56 PM)
Mosley thinks the Eagles will find out before kickoff that the Bucs have beaten the Raiders. Win or lose, Mosley believes the Eagles will be home for the holidays. Geez, I love Jimmy.
George Cant-Stand-Ya (Gym Class)
If the Giants make another run to the Super Bowl, do they hold onto Spags again - with other teams not wanting to wait for him to be available?
Matt Mosley (2:58 PM)
If were Jerry Jones, I would be all over this hire. Spags passed on the Redskins job. I'm sure he would call Parcells and ask him what it's like to work for Jerry. Coughlin would make him do that. But I can't see Spags passing up another job.
Otto (CA)
Do you think any teams are interested in Mike Martz as a HC anymore? He does have the 49ers averaging 70 more yard and 7 more points per game over last season.
Matt Mosley (2:58 PM)
He's a bizarre man, but an offensive "genius" will always be given a second or third chance in this league.
Nick (NJ)
All you need is "high character" and a strong will to suceed to make it as a NFL QB? Where do I sign up for the combine?
Matt Mosley (2:59 PM)
And the ability to run over linebackers, move in the pocket and throw the ball in tight windows. I was just passing along what the scout said.
Poppy
How long do the Giants play there starters Sunday Night? P.S. Sorry I left a stain on your couch..
Matt Mosley (3:00 PM)
Poppy, Tom Coughlin will play to win. That said, he'll be smart. You might see guys like Jacobs and maybe even Tuck the night off early. But he'll play to win.
Chinese Restaurant maitre d'
You answer my question in "5,10 minutes"? Any chance Ward stays with the Giants for a hometown discount to stay backing up Jacobs since he feels so grateful that they stuck with him? Also, what's the possibility of replacing Plax with Boldin next year?
Matt Mosley (3:02 PM)
Man, Boldin would be a great fit. Especially if Hixon keeps blossoming as a deep threat . Steve Smith, Boldin and Hixon. I like the sound of that. Ward owes it to himself to test the market. He drove his price up even more Sunday night. But Jerry Reese will make a strong offer during the playoffs. I really believe that.
Rick (NY, NY)
Will Parcells get into the Hall of Fame? If not for coaching or building teams, he should get in for mentoring so many outstanding coaches! Easily top 5 football minds in the game's history.
Matt Mosley (3:02 PM)
He'll be in. No problem.
Uncle Leo
Matty...you never call anymore! Next year Cowboys Head Coach/Offensive Coord. Mike Holmgren, Defensive Coord. Dom Capers, Special Teams Coach Anybody else...thoughts?
Matt Mosley (3:04 PM)
If they bring in Holmgren, they should bring in Bruce DeHaven to coach special teams. Wade Phillips is not getting enough blame for how pathetic the special teams have been in Dallas. He decides how much time to spend on special teams. They have suffered at every one of his stops. I don't think Holmgren wants to jump right back in. He may need a year or two off. Capers was almost here last offseason.
David Putty (NYC)
Do you see the Giants making a run at Boldin in free agency or keep building through the draft? I would replace the Jesus fish on my car with a picture of Boldin if they could pull that off.
Matt Mosley (3:05 PM)
Now that's funny -- and a tad bit sacriligious
The Card says Moops (NY)
Who will be in Philly longer McNabb or Reid?
Matt Mosley (3:05 PM)
Reid
Frank C (Queens)
Happy Festivus! Is McNabb a Hall of Famer? Serenity Now!
Matt Mosley (3:05 PM)
Nope.
Cousin Jeffrey (The Parks Commission)
Aside from Dawkins, are there any other Hall of Famers on the Eagles right now?
Matt Mosley (3:06 PM)
I'm not certain that Dawkins gets in. Great, great player. But the Hall doesn't care for safeties. My man Cliff Harris is still waiting.
Mr. Peterman (NYC)
Right now, which Manning is the better QB?
Matt Mosley (3:06 PM)
Big brother still has the edge
Fusili Jerry (Apartment 3B)
What team do you see making a surprise run in the playoffs?
Matt Mosley (3:08 PM)
On the AFC side, that Ravens defense is scary. And Flacco gained a lot of confidence in that win over the Cows. In the NFC, there won't be any surprises. Cowboys and Cards are frauds. I don't see the Vikings making a big run. Giants and Panthers play for the title
festus (texas)
Jimmy Johnson says you were one of his most favorite drinkin buds.....merry christmas.
Matt Mosley (3:09 PM)
Merry Christmas to you, too...But I've never shared a drink the man.
K Uger (NY)
I find your belief system fascinating. I know you think Reid will be there longer, but if you were Jeff Lurie, what would you do?
Matt Mosley (3:12 PM)
K Uger: Many people find my "belief system" fascinating. If I were Jeff Lurie, I'd take a long look at my talent on offense and realize all the shortcomings. Mediocre receivers, not true depth at RB and old guys at the tackles. Wouldn't be a bad time to wipe the slate clean and start over. Find you a young guy (Spags) and start the process over. This has become an average team. Don't be fooled by that three-game stretch.
Jr. Mint
Will Steven Jones be a better GM than Jerry...or atleast hire one? Why cant Jerry see what he is doing to this franchise?
Matt Mosley (3:13 PM)
Stephen's a little more calculating. Doesn't wear his feeling on his sleeve quite as much. No one can rival Jerry as an owner. But Jr. Mint could replace him as a GM and actually make things better.
Dr. Von Nostren (NY)
Give me your upset pick for this weekend.
Matt Mosley (3:13 PM)
Raiders over Bucs
John (kaufman)
How much money would i take to get Jimmy Johnson back in Dallas does Jerry have enought?
Matt Mosley (3:15 PM)
All the money in the world wouldn't cause Jerry to swallow his pride and go crawling back to Jimmy. Even after all these years of healing. John, thanks for representing my hometown.
Greg - tampa
Do you think Philly regrets trading away its #1 pick to Carolina after watching how well Jeff Otah has played?
Matt Mosley (3:16 PM)
They could use some help on the line. But Jackson's had a nice season -- if you can try to forget about Sunday for a moment.
Bill Parcells, Florida
Tony Romo was very nonchalant about the two terrible interceptions he threw against the Ravens. There have been media reports saying some teammates are questioning his 'practice habits.' Has Romo become the celebrity quarterback I warned him about?
Matt Mosley (3:18 PM)
Bill, Tony desperately needs voices like you, Sparano and David Lee in his life. He's surrounded by people who are in awe of his celebrity -- and that includes the local owner and head coach. If Parcells read those quotes, Romo would be in his office at 4 a.m;. the next morning.
Matt (Warrenton, VA)
Will the Redskins resign Deangelo Hall?
Matt Mosley (3:18 PM)
Finally. A Redskins question. Matt, I think they will try to re-sign him. He's actually played pretty well.
Jessica Simpson
LOL, you people are just jealous of my Tony! Stop being mean! He leads the NFL in doubles in the 9th inning against lefties!
Matt Mosley (3:19 PM)
...
KT (NYC)
Jacobs didn't look 100% the other night. He wasn't breaking tackles as per usual and yet still netted 60 something yards. What you think?
Matt Mosley (3:20 PM)
Jacobs gives that team an identity on offense. He's the hammer. His absence is felt much worse than Plax's absence.
Babu Bhat (Deported to Pakistan)
Do you see the Falcons or Dolphins (should they make it) making any noise in the playoffs? Also, who deserves the MVP, I would vote for Pennington.
Matt Mosley (3:21 PM)
Falcons could make the most noise. That team is truly starting to believe. The Dolphins are doing it with smoke and mirrors (Sparano should be coach of the year over Smith). The elder Manning will end up with the MVP
The moops
Is cerrano's endorsement of Zorn a sure thing or could they go shopping this offseason?
Matt Mosley (3:22 PM)
Zorn's back. Disgraceful that Cerrato and Snyder let him twist in the wind.
Keith Hernandez (NYC)
I'm Keith Hernandez! Answer my question! Which current head coaches will be looking for jobs soon?
Matt Mosley (3:24 PM)
Off the top of my head, Crennel, Phillips, Lewis, Haslett, Holmgren (his own doing), Herm, Norv...those are the just the names that came to mind.
Rick James
Do you see the Giants losing both Spags and Gilbrite?
Matt Mosley (3:25 PM)
Gilbride turned down the opportunity to speak with Syracuse. It will have to be the right job. Looks like Jints may lose their WRs coach
Nick (Toronto)
Everyone likes to blast Wade but do think Ware would have those sack numbers if Wade wasn't in town?
Matt Mosley (3:26 PM)
I think Wade's done some good things on defense. Not enough to warrant coming back. And would you rather have a Super Bowl or the sack title?
Magic Loogie
What kind of internal coaching staff changes will take place if Phillips and Red Jesus stay on board (O-Line Coach, Special Teams Coach, etc.) OH GOD! TEXERIA TO THE YANKEES!!!
Matt Mosley (3:27 PM)
Bruce Read would be a goner and Jerry would force Phillips to fire his good pal Brian Stewart. Everything else remains the same.
Jackie Chiles (NY)
What current assistant other than Spags has the best shot at a head coaching job?
Matt Mosley (3:28 PM)
The DC in Tennessee Jim Schwartz deserves a shot. He was runner-up to Nolan in San Fran. Also interviewed with the Skins last season.
Eric (Ann Arbor, MI)
Rob Parker's idiocy aside, why isn't Marinelli and Co. out the door already? The Lions are horrible with the coaches they have, wouldn't ANY change have been better than what they have now? Happy Holidays!!
Matt Mosley (3:29 PM)
They have to get their management side in order first. Marinelli will be fired, but there was no reason to do it midseason. I thought the guy held up pretty well considering the circumstances. The Lions can start building through the draft with all those picks in the Roy Williams deal. That's been a great deal for them so far!
Jackie Chiles (NYC)
I am outraged! With all due respect to Derrick Ward, wouldn't the Gints be better served spending their free agent dollars elsewhere and allowing Bradshaw to serve as the change-of-pace back? A 3-headed RB monster is a bit too much to hope for year after year, no? It's lewd, lascivious, salacious and outrageous to expect such depth in today's NFL.
Matt Mosley (3:31 PM)
Genius ending!! They won't break the bank on Ward. But hopefully Ward realizes how important Jacobs has been to his success. He should give the Jints a little discount.
Bob Sacamano (Unknown)
Matt, Do the 'Boys dump TO if they don't make the tournament?
Matt Mosley (3:31 PM)
They should -- whether or not they make the playoffs. He's the most overrated player in the game right now.
Nick (NJ)
Dolphins go 1-15, fire coach and then challenge for the division the next year. Any chance Lions do the same? It's not like the NFC North is that difficult.
Matt Mosley (3:33 PM)
If they could bring in Parcells, Ireland and Sparano, I think they could get it done. Folks, have a Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah and Happy Kwanza, etc. You've been a tremendous and patient audience today. I have to go take a couple more hits of Nyquil now. I love each and every one of you dearly. Art Vandelay
