Bruce Feldman (2:58 PM)
Greetings from windy Dallas. I'm here for the holidays and will be seeing the Cotton Bowl next week. I hope everyone has had a good holiday season and is excited about the upcoming bowl games.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
Bruce, What bowl games are you going to?
Bruce Feldman (2:59 PM)
I went to the New Orleans Bowl and am headed to the Cotton Bowl, the Under Armour All-American Game in Orlando and then the BCS Title game.
Steiny (NYC)
What have your heard about this guy Olivier Vernon? Can he come in and play right away for Randy Shannon?
Bruce Feldman (3:01 PM)
I heard he's very explosive, but I think it'll be tough to come in and play right away at DE. Miami's gonna be pretty loaded there with Marcus Robinson, Allan Bailey, Adewale Ojomo, Steven Wesley and then if they also get back Eric Moncur and courtney Harris. That's a lot of talent to get past.
Bryson (J'ville, IN)
Who would be an ideal pick for the Raiders? Crabtree maybe?
Bruce Feldman (3:02 PM)
I think Crabtree is the closest thing to a sure thing in the draft and he would really help JaMarcus Russell out. He is a great talent.
bruce (dallas)
Have you read the New York Times article on the recruiting war between OU and Texas for McFarland? That appeared ugly for college football.
Bruce Feldman (3:04 PM)
I did. I read it last night. It was pretty eye-opening stuff. I'm sure Mack Brown and his staff were pretty angry when they read that as was Les Miles.
Geoff (Fort Worth, TX)
Is TCU the best defense you have seen this year? Awesome.
Bruce Feldman (3:04 PM)
It's a very good defense, but I think USC's defense is better.
Mike, Portland, OR
Bruce - Like your pick for the Ducks, but do you think Oklahoma St's pass defense is that bad or more reflective of all th quality QB's they've faced in the Big 12? I'm worried on the matchup.
Bruce Feldman (3:07 PM)
A lot of both. OSU had the 9th worst pass D in the Big 12. I also think the Ducks will do a lot of damage on the ground and go for over 200.
daniel abbas (chicago, il)
does northwestern have any chance against mizzou in the alamo bowl?
Bruce Feldman (3:08 PM)
They have a shot because they are well coached, but I think Mizzou has too much firepower for them offensively.
Evan (Jupiter, Fl)
In last weeks chat, someone asked you a question about which Heisman candidate you'd take in a cage match. You answered Tebow but then said you'd take Josh Nesbitt over Tebow. Can you elaborate, cause I'm curious.
Bruce Feldman (3:10 PM)
I just heard from some people inside that program that Josh Nesbitt is a tough, tough kid. Every program has that guy who may not be the biggest but is still someone no one would mess with. Nesbitt I guess is one of those guys.
Kyle (Phoenix, AZ)
The Pac-10 had a terrible year in most people's eyes including my own. I am curious what your expectations are for next year with the conference, and how you think the bowl outcomes may change that perseption?
Bruce Feldman (3:12 PM)
It hurts that you had the two worst BCS conference teams both in the PAC-10.. I think UCLA will be better as will Oregon State, Cal and Oregon. Not sure about Zona because of replacing a four-year starter in Willie T or ASU.
Andy (Titletown, FL)
Is Andre Debose our next Percy Harv1n in Gainesville? Seems he would be perfect to fill that role...
Bruce Feldman (3:12 PM)
Isn't that Deonte Thompson or Rainey or Demps?
Jake: LA
Bruce: Does Mizzou have a replacement for Chase Daniel in the wings? How will they do next year with him, Coffman, & Macklin (probably) gone?
Bruce Feldman (3:14 PM)
I think they backslide next year. I've heard some good things about Blaine Gabbert. He is a great athlete with pro size and RB Derrick Washington will be one of the best backs in the country.
bruce (dallas)
TCU defense - who they play? Gave up 35 to OU and if not for OU penalties negating touchdowns, it would of been 49 or 56. Same as last year when TCU played Texas.
Bruce Feldman (3:16 PM)
They held a good BYU offense to 7 and held Air Force to about 200 yards under their average. they're good. But I'd agree that they probably aren't great, although USC did have a bad half of football too.
Andy (Titletown, FL)
Rainey and Demps aren't big enough to be elite receivers and Thompson hasn't taken a handoff yet. I know you know where Ray Ray and Andre will land. Is it with us?
Bruce Feldman (3:18 PM)
I'm curious about the three Sanford, Fla kids you speak of. I've heard they may go as a package deal, but who knows for sure until they announce.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
I keep hearing how PSU is going to be tough again next season. With all three WRs and a good chunk of that O-line graduating, how can anyone predict this?
Bruce Feldman (3:19 PM)
The D should be very good assuming they don't have a major defection to the NFL, but I agree the hit on the O-line and all that experience gone at receiver will be tough to overcome.
Matt (Raleigh, NC)
With ECU's success the past three years, loyal fanbase, and the return of Skip Holtz do you foresee the possibility of a Big East invitation in the future for the Pirates?
Bruce Feldman (3:20 PM)
I don't, but it's not because of anything about ECU. The league is already at 16 teams and if not I think they'd be more likely to add Memphis which is a hoops power and a good-sized market a la Cincy and L'ville.
Tony (Lancaster, PA)
Bruce, I'm a Buckeye fan in need of some optimism. What do you think the chances of Pryor and the Buckeye offense hanging in there while their defense tries to stuff McCoy and the gang?
Bruce Feldman (3:21 PM)
It wouldn't shock me. Beanie Wells is a terrific back and OSU should be very inspired. I just wonder if the Bucks' Oline can hold up against a very good UT front.
Johnny (Phoenix, AZ)
Bruce: Mel Kiper has said that this year's senior QB class is bad for NFL talent. Which senior QB's, especially from the Big 12, have the best shot in the NFL?
Bruce Feldman (3:22 PM)
There just aren't a lot of seniors in the Big 12 after Chase Daniel, who I could see sticking around as a back-up somewhere in the league. Beyond that theyre mostly juniors.
DJ (Phila)
Bruce--did you watch Notre Dame's win the other night, and if so, what are your thoughts and predictions for the Irish next year. Thanks and Happy New Year.
Bruce Feldman (3:24 PM)
Thanks! I did. I wasn't surprised. I predicted ND will put up a ton of points in that one. I don't have much faith in Hawaii. ND will do well against teams that cant get much pressure on Clausen. I'm a big fan of Golden Tate and Mike Floyd and they're terrific. clausen needs to be more consistent..
Bruce Feldman (3:24 PM)
The ND schedule next year is even softer than this season so nine or 10 wins should be expected.
Ifeanyi(Loma Linda, CA)
Hey Bruce! Who is the best HS football player you have ever seen play?
Bruce Feldman (3:27 PM)
In person.. I saw Fred Taylor play when I was in college and he was great. DeSean Jackson was spectacular too. Jimmy Clausen and Marc Tyler dominated although I'm not sure how good the competition was that I saw them against... still thinking...
Jon (Baton Rouge)
Merry Xmas Bruce. Rumor has it down here that LSU is about to get coach 'O' as head of recruiting/D Line coach, to go along w/ Chavis as D coord. Have you heard anything in your circles?
Bruce Feldman (3:29 PM)
Thanks Jon... I saw Coach Orgeron when I was in NO last week. He loves it there in LA and really likes Sean Payton. I know how passionate he is about LSU though and that'd be tough to pass up. I also know getting the chance to work with Monte Kiffin is very tempting too.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
You are the last chat host of the day. What would it take to get you to stick around for an extra hour?
Bruce Feldman (3:31 PM)
You promise to buy Meat Market and I'm all yours! Actually, it depends on whether I motivate to get into the gym later this afternoon. I enjoy the CF banter.
Casey (Santa Clarita CA)
Bruce I want to say some of this College Football comes down to coaching but in all honesty it seems like it is won in recruiting. If Tebow and Harvin go to USC they win 2 National Championships. What do you think?
Bruce Feldman (3:31 PM)
I agree about the recruiting part although I'm not sure how USC would've used Tebow.
Johnny (Phoenix, AZ)
Bruce: I was hoping you would reply that Joe Ganz is a possibility. He can escape tacklers, throws very well on the run, ala Jake the Snake. Isn't he a possibility at all?
Bruce Feldman (3:33 PM)
He is good. I think he's a lot like Chase Daniel in many ways of doing whatever it takes to run an offense and attack the D, run or pass.
Jack (austin)
Bruce, what about Graham Harrell in the Big 12?
Bruce Feldman (3:34 PM)
Wow.. I forgot that Harrell was a senior. Chat malaise on my end. I think he has the best shot. He's very accurate and has enough size to probably be a third or fourth rounder.
Joel (Tempe)
Bruce, There has been a lott of chatter in Tuscaloosa lately that Alabama could pull Ruben Randall away from LSU. What do you think? Assuming we get Dre Kirkpatrick, that's 4 of the top 10 players in the country for the Tide. 5 of 11 if you count Nico Johnson. Tell me we have a chance!
Bruce Feldman (3:34 PM)
I think you have a chance although LSU is really tough to beat for those in-state kids.
Chris (GA)
If Stafford and Moreno jump to the NFL, how do they Bulldogs look next year? Is Joe Cox shaping up to be a starter, or will they have another freshman in Murray fill the role?
Bruce Feldman (3:35 PM)
I liked Aaron Murray lot when I saw him this summer. I think he has a good shot at winning that job.
Chase (scottsdale,az)
How can you say the TCU defense isn't great? Using the, "oh, if OU wouldn't have been flagged for penalties" argument is about as bad as it gets (hopefully you're not a practicing lawyer). Did you see what they did to Boise State, Utah, BYU and Air Force? Who has USC played besides Ohio State?
Bruce Feldman (3:37 PM)
Oregon's a very explosive offense and USC shut them down and Arizona's got some good weapons and USC handled them pretty well too.
Darryl (Oakland, CA)
Bruce, Have you seen Ruben Randle of LA and Diante Jackson (headed to Oregon) from CA? If you have, do you believe, apparantly like all the other scouts, that Randle is more talented than Jackson?
Bruce Feldman (3:38 PM)
I honestly haven't seen Jackson so I really can't comment on him. I have seen Randle for two years and he's a terrific prospect.
Connor (Chicago IL)
Bruce if UF lands Debose, Armstrong, and Kirkpatrick(it would be a miracle) that then theyd have the best class in the country?
Bruce Feldman (3:38 PM)
UF would be up there, but from what I've heard I don't think they have room to sign a big class.
Steiny (NYC)
Did Cedric Peerman exceed you expectations this season?
Bruce Feldman (3:40 PM)
He was very good once he got healthy and carried UVA out of the basement. He might've saved Al Groh's job for one more season.
Antoine(Charlotte, NC)
Hey Bruce, Although I like Graham Harrell as a QB, don't scouts discount most of the QB's that come out of Texas Tech because of the "system"?
Bruce Feldman (3:41 PM)
I think scouts really do start by looking at each individual player, but then I think the doubts of systems and styles tend to creep in.
BRIAN (NEW YORK)
Do you think the Big East will compete as a power conference again without the re-emergence of Syracues?
Bruce Feldman (3:41 PM)
Not for a very long time if at all. They need Pitt to step up more and USF to not backslide.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
For PSU to beat USC, which matchup do you see as being more important: PSU offense v USC defense or PSU defense v USC offense?
Bruce Feldman (3:42 PM)
PSU O-line has to have its best game ever.
Casey (Santa Clarita CA)
Bruce, If you were a College Coach what offense would you run? Texas, Florida type offense or USC type offense?
Bruce Feldman (3:43 PM)
I like what Texas does right now but I think you have to tweak things to your talent. That's why I liked how Doug Marrone handled his press conference when he addressed that issue.
Denton (Sapulpa, OK)
Does OU match up enough to be able to beat the Gators even with the injuries?
Bruce Feldman (3:45 PM)
I think they're good enough on offense, but I wonder if the Sooners secondary can slow down UF? The Sooners D-line needs to come out on fire. I talked to Ole Miss DC Ty Nix and he said a big key to them beating UF was the Rebels got more pressure on Tebow than anyone else did.
Pete (Silver Spring, MD)
Will Boise be able to run the table again next year with Kellen Moore coming back?
Bruce Feldman (3:46 PM)
They're so young, I wouldn't bet against them.
Dick (Dayton, OH)
Why is tOSU getting so much disrespect for losing their last 2 BCS games and OK getting nothing but praise after losing their last 4? We just might just find out the Big 12 is not as good as everyone thinks!!!
Bruce Feldman (3:47 PM)
This thought has come up a lot in the past few weeks and as I've said before, if OU gets blown out that's stuff is coming.
mike (garfield)
do you think the Big East is the weakest conference?
Bruce Feldman (3:47 PM)
Of the top six conferences? Yes.
Pete (Silver Spring, MD)
Steve Slaton and Matt Forte were two guys who were looked down on as pro prospects by the general public but have had spectacular rookie years in the NFL. Who will be that guy next year?
Bruce Feldman (3:51 PM)
It depends on which juniors come out..
Nathan (New Hampshire)
I think Missisippi will surprise a lot of people an come up with a win against Texas Tech. What are your thoughts on the Missisippi-Texas Tech game?
Bruce Feldman (3:53 PM)
I'm leaning to Texas Tech. I don't see the Rebels secondary holding up well against the Tech passing game. Ole Miss does have a great D-line but Graham Harrell unloads the ball very quickly.
Mark (Austin, TX)
How do you think Pryor is going to fare with Brian Orakpo and Sergio Kindle breathing down his neck in the Fiesta Bowl?
Bruce Feldman (3:53 PM)
Not all that well unless, as I said, OSU's line steps up big, something it has been unable to do in big games the past two years.
Cody Salem, OR
Is Lefevour of Central Michigan, a legitimate 1st or 2nd rounder in the pro draft, following the likes of Romo and Roethlisberger who were relative unknowns in college at small schools, but great pro QBs?
Bruce Feldman (3:54 PM)
I like him and Nate Davis a lot. Both are playmakers who don't have good enough defenses. Is LeFevour accurate enough to be a starting NFL QB? Not sure.
tim harrisburg, pa
What does pitt need to do to step up their program?
Bruce Feldman (3:55 PM)
Develop a passing game and keep recruiting good linemen. And hope LeSean lives up to his word that he's staying for another year.
Carlos (Oklahoma)
Dick (dayton) Believe me as an OU fan I have heard plenty of @#$* about losing bowl games. Best of luck to your buckeyes.
Fred (Tampa Bay FL)
Better Game? Do I buy a ticket and go to the Rose Bowl or the Fiesta Bowl?
Bruce Feldman (3:56 PM)
Good question. My hunch is that the Fiesta will be more competitive.
Bob, Denver
The better leftovers...turkey sandwiches after Thanksgiving (with pie chasers), or ham sandwiches after Christmas (with chocolate whatever chasers)?
Bruce Feldman (3:57 PM)
Love the turkey leftovers, although I had the best ham I ever had two years ago Christmas time in Miss. It had about 10 pounds of brown sugar on it, but it was pretty awesome.
Nick (Canton, OH)
Bruce, Mich wins 9 games next year with Forcier at QB and wins the big 10 in 2 years. Agree?????
Bruce Feldman (3:58 PM)
I don't know. I'm not ready to jump on the Forcier bandwagon just yet. I think Michigan will be back in a bowl game next year but nine is a lot for one year.
Mike (Garfield, NJ)
what is going to happen to Rutgers and West Virginia next year with Teel and White leaving?
Bruce Feldman (3:59 PM)
I think RU has a better chance not to slip far. White was a much more valuable player who carried that team over the past four years.
Bruce Feldman (4:00 PM)
Wow.. watching CF Live in the background and Trevor just called a Penn State upset over USC I think.
Will J (Portland, OR)
Bruce, which major bowl (Rose, Sugar, Orange, Fiesta) has the overall festivities for the bowl week?
Bruce Feldman (4:01 PM)
I saw the Rose Bowl event last year up close and it was spectacular. TV doesn't do it justice. The Rose Bowl itself is the coolest setting in all of college football because of where that stadium sits. The Fiesta Bowl also is a first-class operation.
Jim (Rome, Ga)
Do you think the state of Washington is having the worst sports year ever?
Bruce Feldman (4:02 PM)
Yeah, across the board it's been abysmal.
Wes (Omaha, NE)
What do you think of the matchup between Clemson and Nebraska?
Bruce Feldman (4:03 PM)
It's a toss up. Clemson has a lot of individual talent, but I feel like NU is gonna win. Suh could have a big day against the Clemson O-line.
John (Owasso, OK)
Which do you believe is a more accurate statement? OU's offense is a tribute to weak Big 12 defenses, or Florida's defense is a tribute to weak SEC offenses.
Bruce Feldman (4:04 PM)
I don't like this question because it's kinda leading... OU's offense is deemed more stunning than UF's D off the top, so I'll leave it at that. I don't think people across the board gush over UF's D.
austin (anderson,sc)
do you think home teams, such as hawwaii, new mexico, boise st.,southern cal.,and other teams that have bowl games held at their home staidium?if yes, what about georgia tech & the chickfila bowl?
Bruce Feldman (4:06 PM)
I like Ga. Tech but not just because they're at home.. LSU has been plagued by busted assignments on D and this is the wrong offense to face with that MO.
jason (nebraska)
do you think college football needs to get rid of divisions such as east west north south and let the two best teams from the conference play for the title
Bruce Feldman (4:06 PM)
That'd work well for the Big 12 assuming you got a handle on scheduling.
Bill - Redmond, WA
Bruce - Utah - overrated or overlooked?
Bruce Feldman (4:08 PM)
Can't call em overlooked because they're in a BCS bowl. They're better than Hawaii was last year but I still think they lose by more than a TD.
Ashlee (Bradenton, FL)
Think Chuck Long is going to get a job this season?
Bruce Feldman (4:09 PM)
He'll probably be someone's QB coach. Maybe he can land with Rhoades at Iowa State to help groom Austin Arnaud?
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Did the TCU/Boise State game make you think those two teams should have gotten BCS bids?
Bruce Feldman (4:10 PM)
No. If BSU won 35-13, it might've.
Derrick (Statesboro, Ga)
Do you see an NFL team that has a system that Tim Tebow could possibly thrive in?
Bruce Feldman (4:11 PM)
It depends. I think he's gonna have to prove he can play and take snaps from under center at some point and deliver passes quickly since the knocks on him are that and that he supposedly has a slow release.
Andrew (Chico, CA)
How Far can USC move up in the polls, with a big win over Penn?
Bruce Feldman (4:12 PM)
Maybe as high as No. 2 if OSU beats Texas.
Chad (Las Vegas)
Aren't there too many bowl games? How can this be fixed yet still rewarding teams that finish with a winning record the extra practice time?
Bruce Feldman (4:14 PM)
I think the people who lament that there are too many bowls just shouldn't watch any of them. I watched the ND-Hawaii game the other night and I watched the games on Saturday and went to the New Orleans Bowl. There's some great players out there and this is a good chance to watch them. Would you rather hear about Yankees-Red Sox or T.O.?
Kathy (Tampa, Fl.)
Think Tebow will stay at UF for his senior year?
Bruce Feldman (4:15 PM)
I think he stays. He seems to be having as much fun in college as anyone. I think he knows the NFL wouldn't be anywhere near as much fun.
Bruce Feldman (4:21 PM)
Sorry.. had a phone call.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Same question as Andrew from Chico only PSU is the team that wins the Rose Bowl. Can they get to number two with a win?
Bruce Feldman (4:22 PM)
Sure.. if OSU beats Texas they can. That double would be big for the Big Ten.
Andrew (Chico, CA)
USC is returning most of their starters from this year on offense, and is predicted to be on of the top in the nation next year. However, they lose many guys on defense. Still a top 3 team?
Bruce Feldman (4:23 PM)
Top 10, yes.. top 3? Doubt it. They lose a ton of talent on the D.. I'm actually writing about this on my blog for today.
Gary (Buffalo, NY)
Wouldn't Texas vs. Alabama and Ohio State vs. Utah make for better bowl games than what we have now with double digit favorites; and if so, why do we have what we have now?
Bruce Feldman (4:24 PM)
Money.. The Texas Bama game would be much better but if you're the bowl with two loss OSU against a team with a small following in Utah, lots of folks might not tune in to that one.
Bruce Feldman (4:25 PM)
Thanks Ashlee for the kind words.
Chioke Hassan, Baltimore,Md
Dear Bruce When is Howard Schnellenberger reitireing?
Bruce Feldman (4:25 PM)
He still seems to be going pretty strong.
Eric (In the car)
iowa or sc in the outback... who will win?
Bruce Feldman (4:26 PM)
Leaning towards Iowa thanks to Shonn Greene.
Antoine(Charlotte, NC)
Hey Bruce, I thought that Turner Gill would have been a perfect fit for Syracuse considering what he has done at Buffalo. I thought Auburn would have been too big a step because lack of experience. Your thoughts?
Bruce Feldman (4:27 PM)
I think Auburn is a tough job right now and I think Gill might be better served to see what comes up in 2009. Maybe he gets Colorado if Hawkins doesn't have a big year.
Kyle (State College)
Why do you consider the ACC to be a better conference than the Big East?
Bruce Feldman (4:27 PM)
There's more good teams.
Dennis (At Work)
Say Texas beats Ohio St like they stole something and OU squeeks past FSU, can Texas get the split title?
Bruce Feldman (4:29 PM)
No I doubt it. If Texas had played USC and lit up the Trojans and maybe if OU beat UF by 1 I couldve seen the AP voting for UT but not now.
ken
For the last few years of his career in KC, Montana went from the shotgun all the time and was successful. Why can't Tebow be?
Bruce Feldman (4:30 PM)
There is a feeling you have less of a running game from that.
Steiny (NYC)
How impressed were you with Thaddeus Lewis?
Bruce Feldman (4:31 PM)
He's a stud. I talked to Duke OC Kurt roper a few weeks back and he was very high on Lewis. He is a very sharp kid and is what coaches are looking for mentally. Plus, he's a good athlete.
Adam (Miami, FL
What are the Canes chances next year to win the ACC and finish with 9 or more wins?
Bruce Feldman (4:33 PM)
I think the Canes are moving in the right direction. Shannon has recruited very well. I think Jacory Harris is a good young leader and these guys just need time to mature and Shannon needs to keep bringing in good young O-linemen.
Darryl (Oakland, CA)
Bruce, I went and got lunch from work and came back. You're still here? Kudos to you, this must be a record.
Bruce Feldman (4:34 PM)
Nah, I think Neyer and Simmons have done marathon chats before.
Adam (Miami, FL)
What do you think about the OC position? Not sure to many people like Nix
Bruce Feldman (4:35 PM)
Eeeh.. I think it's hard to be totally sold on Nix yet, but Shannon doesn't want more revolving door at OC. Kyle Wright was a good sophomore QB and then regressed under three different OCs.
Elf (texas)
What are Texas Tech chances of having a great year in 2009?
Bruce Feldman (4:36 PM)
Well, if they don't have you around, that's not going to be easy. Plus Crab figures to leave. I've heard good things about Taylor Potts the new QB and Leach thinks they have a lot of talent coming back.
Andrew (Chico, CA)
I will need to read your blog for sure! Whats your feelings on the Washington hire? Hurt USC?
Bruce Feldman (4:37 PM)
I like Sark and he made a good move bringing in Jim Michalczik, one of the best O-line coaches on the west coast to run his offense. Still waiting to see the rest of his defensive staff... I think USC will be fine on offense.
Craig (Elmore City, OK)
Do you think the National Championship game will be as exciting as people are predicting, or do you foresee a blowout? Who wins if it's close; who wins in a blowout?
Bruce Feldman (4:38 PM)
I think it'll be fairly close at least I hope so.
Travis (ATL)
Do you think UGA will kill Michigan State? Sure, UGA underperformed but the Sparties looked overmatched in their big games.
Bruce Feldman (4:40 PM)
I think UGA will win by double digits because MSU is too one-dimensional and doesn't have enough horses up front to beat the Dawgs O-line.
bruce (dallas)
Within 5 years - Applewhite will be a head coach somewhere?
Bruce Feldman (4:41 PM)
I don't know.. maybe if Dave Bailiff at Rice goes someplace else Major can get in on that.. If not I'm not so sure.
bruce (dallas)
Based on what Greg Davis has done at Texas - why is he not a leading candidate for a head coaching position?
Bruce Feldman (4:41 PM)
I wonder if people think he really wants to be a head coach again.. He's got a pretty good gig right now.
Jay (Rome, Ga)
Which fairly unknown running back do you feel with have a breakout year next year?
Bruce Feldman (4:44 PM)
Maybe Curtis Steele from Memphis or way off the board Isaiah Pead of Cincy.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
How are you doing in Bowl Mania so far?
Bruce Feldman (4:45 PM)
I didn't get a chance to play in bowl mania, but so far my picks have gone well (of course now I just jinked them).
Pat (dallas)
Bruce, do you really believe Dan Hawkins might be fired if he doesn't have a good year?
Bruce Feldman (4:49 PM)
I think it was a risky move talking about winning 10 games next year, especially when recruiting doesn't appear to be going all that well this year with the top six in-state prospects all leaving the state.
Kelz (Ohio)
Do you think Nate Davis from Ball State will be worth anything in the NFL?
Bruce Feldman (4:50 PM)
Yeah, I think hes going to be very good and I expect he'll be a starter in the NFL.
Joel (Tempe)
Bruce, This chat will go down as the stuff of legend. You are an absolute workhorse today! Thanks.
Bruce Feldman (4:51 PM)
Yes, it is amazing what one can do sitting on their behind while procrastinating a workout.
Brian (Atlanta)
Do you think Georgia Tech will continue to be as successful in 2009?
Bruce Feldman (4:51 PM)
I do. Most of the best players in that program came from the Class of 2007..they're really young.
Steiny (NYC)
Did you expect more from Rodney Stewart this season?
Bruce Feldman (4:52 PM)
I thought he was a good young back. I think it was Darrell Scott people expected probably more from.
Joel (Tempe)
Now answer this please: Most Alabama fans, and media members are talking about how great Alabama will be next year. I personally believe we will take a temporary step back with the loss of Smith and Caldwell up front, and JPW. John Parker wasn;t great but there is somethig to be said about senior leadership (ask LSU). Is 10 wins and second in the West too much to expect?
Bruce Feldman (4:53 PM)
The defense probably will be better but I agree the leadership is tough to overlook. That said, I still think they'll be preseason top 5.
Steiny (NYC)
Does Aldarius Johnson have a nice future in front of him?
Bruce Feldman (4:54 PM)
He does, but he has to do a better job of holding onto the ball.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
so you went to the New Orleans Bowl well im going to the sugar bowl any good places to eat there?
Bruce Feldman (4:55 PM)
Yeah, lots, especially if you're not worried about fat intake.
Jarred (Iola,KS)
Do you think that Mark Mangino and the Kansas Jayhawks can get their second BCS Bowl Game win in two consecutive years?
Bruce Feldman (4:56 PM)
Possibly. Reesing's back and they have some good young talent around him.. The D needs to improve A LOT though.
Travis (Savannah, Ga)
If ole miss continues to be successful is it just absolutely crazy to consider them a contender for the SEC West title in 09?
Bruce Feldman (4:57 PM)
Nah, I think it's very possible. Snead is back with some very good fast receivers. They will lose a great DL in Peria Jerry and probably DE Greg Hardy but they are pretty deep up front behind them. I think they're preseason top 10.
Joel (Tempe)
Bruce, Tell Brad to make reservations at K Paul's. Way better than Emeril's. Or he can try Commander's Palace.
Antoine(Charlotte, NC)
Bruce, If UNC has a 10 win season next year, do you think that Davis will jump ship if another big time opening pops up?
Bruce Feldman (4:58 PM)
Doubt it. He could've gone after Tennessee and didn't.
Bruce Feldman (4:58 PM)
Three more questions...
Bryan (Trojanland)
How do you see Joe McKnight performing next year???
Bruce Feldman (5:00 PM)
I think he'll keep getting better and better as his body gets stronger. Staying healthy was his problem this season. He had more weird little injuries in one year than most guys get in a career.
Chad (Las Vegas)
Born and raised in New Orleans. Commander Palace sucks now. Go to a place called Jaquimo's on a Tuesday night then head over to Maple Leaf bar next door afterwards for Rebirth Brass band. Best food and music experience you will ever have.
Matt: (Gainesville, Florida)
How can Kansas get their second straight BCS win when there not playing in a BCS game this year? Also is Florida leading with any of the top unsigned recruits?
Bruce Feldman (5:02 PM)
I take it he meant second in three years.. Heard they have a good shot with one of the Sanford trio.
Joey(Florence, AL)
How do redshirts apply to bowl games? Can players lose their redshirt status if thet play in bowl games?
Bruce Feldman (5:02 PM)
Yes, it counts as part of the season.
Bruce Feldman (5:03 PM)
