On second thought, I decided to take Wednesday off, so I could finish up all my shopping. So, SportsNation, fare well without me. I send out all my best and greatest Christmas, Holiday wishes! Have no fear, though, Amy Nelson is here with a Your Take chat. She'll start things off at 10 a.m. ET!
Amy Nelson (9:26 AM)
Helloooooo everyone! Merry Christmas Eve I'll be back at 10 am to start this holiday cheer back up. Send in your thoughts about anything today ... Skip Bayless and Stephen A are in the house and if you're smart enough with your comments I'll be reading some on the air.
Amy Nelson (10:04 AM)
Ok guys it's a little bit of craziness here today so let;s get it started...
Amy Nelson (10:04 AM)
Ok guys it's a little bit of craziness here today so let;s get it started...
Amanda (Baltimore)
It is not that I ever excepted Mark Teixeira to come home to Baltimore but to sign with the YANKEES c'mon man!
mlb (us)
I think major league baseball needs a salary cap. it is getting very old watching the yankees and red sox get everyone they want. even out baseball and lets see what happens
JP (Long Island)
I think this has been one of the best offseasons in recent memory for the Yankees. CC, AJ and now TEX. Before you go off and and say the Yanks just spend spend spend look at that payroll 88.5 million come off, only 63million back on, job well done Mr. Cashman, AKA CashMoney.
Liz (Big Apple)
Not sure what Amanda is so surpised about. Mark teixera always wanted to be a yankee.. Donnie Baseball is his idol.
Charod (PA)
I am a huge Yankee fan and I am extremely happy that they signed a first baseman that can hit from both sides and play defense. But $180 million, that is a little rediculous to pay one player considering the state of the country.
fred (omaha)
so is there one post every two minutes in here?
Amy Nelson (10:07 AM)
Eaaasy Fred, we're a little shortstaffed here this mornign so I'm working it as best I can...
Jay (NY)
The rich get richer in times of economic troubles...part of capitalism...unfortunately my team, the Mets, has an owner who invests $300 million with a Madoff.
Michael (New York)
Ignore Fred. He spends all his waking time trying to figure out who Buzz is, anyways.
Zach Rastall (Marinette, WI)
I can't believe Buzz canceled his chat! He's not only turrible, but he's also a knucklehead.
Amy Nelson (10:09 AM)
Whatever you guys ... this will be far more entertaining. Plus Buzz can't read your comments on the air ... I mean, tell me, what makes Buzz so special?
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
I'm a Braves fan and I'm more mad at Braves' ownership for not spending enough on quality players. The Yankees are just trying to put the best product possible on the field to keep the fans happy. What's so wrong with that?
Pete (NC)
My beef is not $22.5 mil/yr, it's the 8-year contract. EVERYBODY and their MOMMA knows Tex will not be a Yankee in 2016.
Amy Nelson (10:09 AM)
How so? He has a full no-trade and doesn't have an opt out
Paul (Indianapolis, IN)
Everyone is hating on the Yankees out of envy. Cashmen has built our farm system with young talent and now is going out and bringing in young big names to make a splash. All this hate is just ugly envy.
Gray (Chicago)
It'll be great to hear excuses from the Yankee fans when they don't win a WS this season...
Jay (Long Island, NY)
As a Red Sox fan, all I can say is "AGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!"
dave (nj)
although the yankees spend tons of money on players they still wont win a world series, have they won a world series with a rod?
Travis (Columbus, OH)
Paul, yes, we'd all love to have a FO that can spend whatever it wants on whoever it wants. Hasn't done much lately for you though huh? I don't know what everyone is getting so excited about. Lately the Yankees can't win regardless of their roster. Are CC, Tex and AJ all they needed to get over that hump? Seems too simple. Let's see how they handle NY and each other first.
Brandon (Minnesota)
What happens if the yankees dont make the playoffs next year? Is Cashman out of a job?
Amy Nelson (10:11 AM)
He just signed a new contract. Girardi might be, not Cashman, I would think.
David (Boston)
Glad the Sox didn't get Tex. Keep Lowell and use the money to upgrade pitching
Jay (NY)
I feel bad for the Brewers and Blue Jays who now get lower draft compensation since Tex had a higher rating giving Anaheim the 1st round pick.
dave (nj)
have the yankees won a world series with a rod? no
kyle Freedman (Clearwater FL. (ST. PEte))
AMy whats up! I love first take. MY dad played baseball against Jay Crawford in the tampa bay area. Ask him if he remembers Kerry Freedman's SLider? From 39ers maybe? or MSBL? But mos def, talk about the rays! Were gonna knock up those overpaid uknow whats in new york. and then take their playoff spot!
Amy Nelson (10:12 AM)
Jay's not here today but we'll see about the Rays, will be tough to repeat what tthey did
Amy Nelson (10:12 AM)
Jay's not here today but we'll see about the Rays, will be tough to repeat what tthey did
Mikey (Mixiland)
Kevin Kernan knew....
Gray (Chicago)
Who is going to want a 37 year old Teixeira making $22.5M? No one, he will be a Yankee this entire contract.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
If the Yankees don't win next season, it won't be Cashman's fault. He went out and got three top line FAs. What grounds would the Yankees have to fire him?
Rob (Canton, OH)
Yankees have locked up the AL East and of course another first round playoff loss. CC, Teixiera along with AROD aren't postseason players. Poor Yankees
Mikey (Mixiland)
Whoa there Rob...I say 73-89 at best right now.
Derek (Fort Myers)
They have locked up the highest payroll, that's about it..
Bob (Springfield, MO)
There is no way that this is good for Baseball! I don't hate the Yanks, but it could be fun watching this implode.
Liz (Big Apple)
I dont get people like Dave- 1 person doesn't win a world series, 25 men do. Get off the Arod hate wagon
Efrain (Bayonne NJ)
Everyone says money can't buy a championship and I agree, so why do people continue to compain about the Yankees...enough already.
Amy Nelson (10:14 AM)
Ok Efrain but I know you're a Yankee fan, so you're not totally unbiased there.
Michael (New York)
Logic has never been a strong Steinbrenner suit, though, Amy. Cashman would be gone if they lose this season.
joe (indiana)
CC's all ready 300 lbs. he's gonna get bigger.
Amy Nelson (10:15 AM)
But he's an athlete, a pretty good one at that.
Alonzo (Macon, GA)
The Yanks are not guaranteed anything of course but you have to like their chances. I think they will need another catcher or DH because Jorge won't last the season.
Connor (Novi, MI)
The acquisitions of Teixiera, Sabthia, and Burnett is not enough for the Yanks to surpass the Red Sox. There OF is still weak and their back end of their rotation is mediocre. Plus, Money doesn't win championships, Team do.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
I love the chat this morning. So many jealous fans of teams that aren't the Yankees. It's like if their team did it then it would be OK but because it's the Yankees, there is a problem.
Jason (Cincinnati, OH)
I find it staggering that owners like the Steinbrenner's haven't realized yet that championships are won by good teams more so than the highest paid teams. There's a thing called "team chemistry" that the Yankees will be lacking. Plus, Joe Girardi has yet to prove he can handle all the egos like Torre did. I look for another early playoff exit for the pinstripers...despite their escalating payroll.
Josh (Orrville, OH)
all that i have to say, a-rod stinks in the post season, and as much as i hate to say it so does cc. the yanks can win as many games in the regular season as they want but it's all about the post season and in the past there players just haven't steped up.
Rollins, NJ
It's amazing ow just last week the Yanks were crying poverty to the city needing almost 500 mil more for the stadium. Yet they spent almost half a billion on @ players at a time when NY is losing jobs left and right
Paul (Indianapolis, IN)
Cashman is the best GM in the league, he will have a job as long as he wants one. If the Yanks don't make the playoffs then they will just go get a Torre like veteran manager to get us over the hump.
Ted DiBiase (NYC)
Everybody has a price! Obama won the election by bringing in the most money, and the Yankees will win the WS by having the most money.
Kyle-Iowa City
Top heavy contracts and no team chemistry all add up to a bad Yankee team for years to come..good luck trading 3 thirty somethings in 8 years Brian...we'll all enjoy seeing that money isn't always the answer
Mikey (Mixiland)
Uh oh, Stephen A. Smith time
Amy Nelson (10:17 AM)
good times!
Mikey (Mixiland)
Yeah right Stephen, they aren't even gonna finish with a winning record!
Derek (Fort Myers)
Noone is jealous of the Yankees, it's a mockery of money. You should see my mothers face when I tell her these contract sizes. Note she knows nothing about sports, minus the tight pants and what not. But still it is a J-O-K-E
Jason (Cincinnati, OH)
Good luck to Joe Girardi trying to get that team to "mesh". It's one thing dealing with the A-Rod circus, but now you're bringing in even more top-tier free agents, and if they don't produce, heads will roll in that front office.
Ramon (Texas)
LOOK OUT BOSTON, Here come the yanks!
Lance (New York, N.Y.)
I think Stephen A. is still discombobulated from the Teixeira signing.
brett ((NH))
i love steven a smith
mike from cincinnati
stephen should just shut up, PLEASE.
Luis V (Jacksonville NC)
amy!!! how come i cant see the my posts?
Amy Nelson (10:19 AM)
there ya go...
Kyle-Iowa City
Stephen A is always good times Amy :)
brett ((NH))
STOP ALL YOU HATERS
Derek (Fort Myers)
These guys are gonna start breathing fire today, I can feel it.
Josh (Orrville, OH)
THANK YOU SKIP BAYLESS!!! by the way people we haven't even played a game yet, it's not even spring training yet. lets stop talking about world series championships.
Liz (Big Apple)
I do think the Yankees would be an automatic lock for a WS win with ManRam... now they just have a 95 percent chance, which is a great chance...
Lance (New York, N.Y.)
Good grief, between Miami-New York and Mark Teixeira, will there be any chance the chat will go towards the Christmas NBA games?
Amy Nelson (10:21 AM)
yes no worries we'llbe talking about other stuff soon...
Paul (Indianapolis, IN)
Stephen A has it right, poor red soxs, awwww cry us a river.
Carl Crawford (St. Petersburg FL)
Man I hate all this Yanks stuff goin around. The Rays are back to repeat this year. Go spend your money New York, it wont help you went you come play the Rays.
Amy Nelson (10:22 AM)
thanks cc
Rod (Madison, FL)
It's NFL playoff time DAMMIT!
Prince (Pittsburgh)
The Yankees have the highest payroll every year. Every yeay everyone cries foul. The Yankees haven't won in almost a decade. What is so unfair when they never win anything? If other owners (like those of the Pirates) made better business decisions maybe they'd have more money to spend.
Jordan (Peoria)
Winning makes chemistry. I am a Cardinals fan and don't care that the Yankees are spending all of this money. I find it very entertaining, and if everyone would get past the dollar amounts you would see that the Yankees are addressing needs. Starting pitching and 1B were huge voids last year and they have now sufficiently filled them. They are not just spending money. Yes it is a huge amount of money, but frankly they have it and are spending it on good players to fill their team needs.
Greg (Boston)
Carl, don't worry, half your current team will be on the Yanks in the next 10 years
dave (nj)
watch out for those chargers this weekend they are gonna win the afc west
Joe Maddon (Florida)
Carl! you know we were just a fluke! you know we will be in the basement again, so stop talking !!
Derek (Fort Myers)
Tampa Bay Rays get more media than the Marlins, and the Marlins have 2 WS titles!!
Jay (NY)
Red Sox Nation Panic Alert, Level 5: The World is Ending.
Gray (Chicago)
Jordan well said, but I stopped reading after Cardinals fan....
Paul (Indianapolis, IN)
What is really wrong with major league baseball is that it is an old boys club. They wont allow new blood like Mark Cuban into the ownership circle. Everyone knows if Cuban becomes the owner of the Cubs he would try and make them the Yanks of the NL. Get rid of these owners who want to make money and don't care if they win and get owners who don't care if they take a loss financially but they win on the field and you will have better competition.
Amy Nelson (10:26 AM)
hard for me to argue that
Michael (Baltimore)
It makes me sick that the orioles ownership namely peter angelos is so terrible that Tex doesnt want to play for the team he grew up rooting for
Jake (Chicago)
I understand why a fan of a small market team is disgusted by the Yankees spending spree, but any of the teams involved in Teixeira at the end could have afforded that contract, but chose not to offer it. Too much complaining in Boston.
Justin (St. Marys, OH)
I just wanted to comment on how much the Yankees disgust me. Here we are, in a state of recession, and the Yankees speend over a quarter of a billion to sign 3 individuals. On top of all of that, they're going to the citizens of New York for their tax money to build a new stadium. Hal Steinbrunner needs to rethink his priorities and stop his greasy money hungry pig ways. You guys could do America a favor and stop glorifying their greedy antics. CC Sabithia is a great player, as well as the other two, but this nonsense has to stop at some level.
Howard (Orlando)
Hey Amy! I missed you last week. Damn it feels good to be a Yankee!
Amy Nelson (10:29 AM)
so in other news, how are people's feelings about this jets/dolphins game? do most jets fans think they're gonna tank it?
Derek (Ft Myers)
Who do ya'll think will go to the playoffs between Jets, Dolphins ,and Pats?
carbone (IL)
Steven A Smith is great when he gets fired up!!!!
Amy Nelson (10:30 AM)
Agreed...
Ogre (Adams College)
neeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrdddddddddddddsssssssssssss
dave (nj)
jets are toast
Amy Nelson (10:30 AM)
And that is because?
Amy Nelson (10:30 AM)
I bet all you Jets fans will hate on Favre too if they lose, huh?
Howard (Orlando)
Jets fans always think they're going to tank it. They're the most pessimistic fans out there. Just look at them on draft day!
chauncey (teaneck)
if the Pat's win the Jets will still try because the Jets don't want the Pat's to go in as well.
Godish (Chicago)
Jets/Dolphins? Who cares. Let's talk about Hacksaw Jim Duggin winning the 88 Royal Rumble.
Michael (New York)
Mangini may be coaching his last game for the Jets. He may need a second act... much like his former mentor-Bill Belichick.
Brian Cashman
I want to announce that we just signed LeBron James to a 10 year 300 million contract to play center field for us.
Amy Nelson (10:31 AM)
him and cc are boys so that makes sense...
Jets Fans (Always)
boooooooooooooooooo. boooooooooooooo. santa? booooooooooooooo
Derek (Ft Myers)
Jets fans are the same people that are Yanks fans, of course they'll cower under a rock when they lose!
Amy Nelson (10:32 AM)
no i'd say jets fans are much more like mets fans
dave (nj)
they way the jets have been playing they dont deserve to be in the playoffs
Michael (New York)
As a Mets fan, I can only say... Ow.
Clinton (Indianapolis)
I can't believe I'm saying this, but this chat makes me long for Buzz.
Amy Nelson (10:33 AM)
Step it up Clinton, then whatcha got other than complaitns?
Rome (New York)
It'll be just the Jets luck to somehow beat the Dolphins and bump the Patriots into the playoffs. That or the Bills win giving the Jets a chance to make the playoffs and the Jets lose. Whichever scenario ends in the Jets breaking Jets' fans hearts, that is most likely.
LaShawn (Bronx, NY)
Jet's Dolphins have so much soap opera drama its perfect season ending game
Rod (Madison, FL)
Favre should sit in a rocking chair for first half of the season...then be pulled out for the stretch run..he has turned into the Babe of the NFL
Mike (BK)
Just want to thank you for fulfulling the ESPN agenda of making the Yankees into the Devil...Overwhelming majority of ridiculous posts that lack any credibility once so ever...Way to go Amy.
Amy Nelson (10:35 AM)
thanks for checking in
Luis V (North Carolina)
dolphins will not win, chad is not a great qb, he is good but not a legend/ hall of fame material qb aka bret favre. bret favre will come thru and win this game. now the pats are the ones who need to lose, and that wont happen simply because the bills are going to choke as well...but i would like the jets to get in the p.o...but ultimately i am glad that my football giants are in
Josh (Texas)
I'm still upset that the Lions vs Packers isn't the Sunday night game. I want to see history. 0-16 all the way!!
John (New Jersey)
The dolphins are going to wipe the floor with the jets and Farve is going to retire, which is going to make the jets wish they stuck with Chad.
ESPN Whiners
Kids are fat, the economy stinks, my teams never win, and I get no respect...I blame ESPN
LaShawn (Bronx, NY)
Amy, is Ed Hoccali referring th game in San Diego? Week 2 in Dever comes to mind
Amy Nelson (10:36 AM)
My guess would be no.
Tony (Daytona Beach, Fl)
there is no excuse for the New York Jets to have lost to 4 west coast teams that the Dolphins have already defeated. It doesn't matter where you play games you need to beat the competition no matter how good or bad they are
Jason (Cincinnati, OH)
I'm still hoping Philip Rivers and Jay Cutler will throwdown after their game...and the winner should get the Pro Bowl "nod".
Josh (Orrville, OH)
i just have two words for jets fans, ronnie brown. brown will run all over the jets and the dolphins will complete one of the best turn arounds in nfl history.
Amy Nelson (10:38 AM)
seriously, i really think that any jets fans who hate on favre are the biggest hypocrites. they're the same ones who ran out and bought No. 4 jerseys the day he came over here.
Travis (Columbus, OH)
This season has proved one thing for the Jets: Favre needs to retire, and stay retired.
Amy Nelson (10:38 AM)
are you a jets fan?
Rob ((New Orleans))
2009 Jets starting quarterback: Matt Cassell
Amy Nelson (10:38 AM)
sweet
Ed Hochuli (Chat Ref)
Lashawn, that's a personal foul for spelling my name wrong, fifteen yard penalty and replay 2nd down
Jeff (Iowa)
Amy, we always figured Buzz had less clout than the parking lot monitor at ESPN, but he is not working today and you are? Guess we had it all wrong.
Amy Nelson (10:39 AM)
See, I WANTED to come in,. Christmas eve, overrated. I'm a grinder...
Efrain (Bayonne NJ)
Amy, don't forget they sold over 15,000 jerseys within minutes...yes, they are hypocrites
Amy Nelson (10:39 AM)
that's what i'm sayin'
Jeff (Iowa)
Good to see Ed Hochuli checking in this morning.
Matt Cassel (annoyed)
It's CASSEL, people. There's only one l in there!
BJ (Carmel, NY)
Really...Are you generalizing all Jets fans as the ones who hate on him are the ones who buy the jerseys? Im sure you can come up with a couple more sweeping generalzations.
Amy Nelson (10:41 AM)
yes, it's my first sweeping generalizstion of the morning. i'm just saying that if jets fans are hating on favre, i bet you many of them are the ones who went out and bought his jersey, all amped he was coming to rescue the franchise.
Eric (Las Vegas)
I would have to say that the Dallas/Philly game has more drama then Jets/Dolphins.
Josh (Orrville, OH)
everyone know's this is the place to be. amy is one of the greatest chat monitors in the biz. and her dad is from cleveland, how could that get any better.
Amy Nelson (10:41 AM)
like i wasn't gonna post that one...
Clinton (Indianapolis)
How's this for a sweeping generalization: You're all morons.
Amy Nelson (10:42 AM)
Whoo hoo! Holiday spirit!
Clinton (Indianapolis)
So, sucking up to the host is encouraged. Good to know.
Amy Nelson (10:43 AM)
biiiiter. you aren't and i've posted your name quite a bit today.
Brian (Palm Desert Ca)
Chargers and Broncos have more drama then anyone this week. Chargers win
Amy Nelson (10:44 AM)
agreed. who would have thougt the terrible chargers would be in this position?
Amy Nelson (10:44 AM)
and that's why it's the sunday night game, so nbc obviously thinks so
brett (south carolina)
chad pennington had the better season than brett farve skip bayless u need to get your head in the game
will (orlando)
for once I'd like to hear Skip acknowlege that Brett Farce has taken down 2 franchise's in one off seasons , green bay and jets ,, but but all the Dolphin fans thanks a bunch
Amy Nelson (10:45 AM)
ooh i'm sure he'll cop to that one
Evan (Boston)
Favre is the most overrated qb in the game. If i want an interception then i'll go out and get him. Good luck winning next week ny with a choke artist like him
Efrain (Bayonne NJ)
Brett Favre just threw another INT
Amy Nelson (10:45 AM)
haters!
Mike (BK)
Amy got this job because she was a woman and filled a Quota...See how cool generalizing is?
Amy Nelson (10:45 AM)
oh but that's soooooo true!
Travis (Columbus, OH)
So, I'm lost, do we suck up to you or be mean to you to get our posts viewed?
Amy Nelson (10:46 AM)
be have some witty to say.,. doesn't happen often but when it does often it's read on the air...
Rod (Madison, FL)
the Chargers have no one to blame but themselves...Offensive coordinators do NOT make good Head Coaches...Cam Cameron anyone?
Ken L. (Warren Michigan)
I think Amy is bi polar
Amy Nelson (10:47 AM)
nice
bubba (Buffalo)
I personally dont understand NBC's decision, everytime the Cowboys play on Primetime, the ratings are through the roof, i suppose NBC is just hoping that the angry little rivers and Culter get in a slap fight...
Howard (Orlando)
I hate the Farve love affair, but he's a legend in the game, he's just stubborn and does stupid things, you take the good with the bad with him. Please please stay grounded about BF.
Godish (Chicago)
Amy, during my Christmas downtown before dinner, which movie should I go see at the theater?
Amy Nelson (10:47 AM)
slumdog millionaire or the wrestler
Amy Nelson (10:48 AM)
i'm going to see the wrestler this weekend .... saw slumdog the other day.
Packers Management
P.S. Jets fans, Broadway Joe is not waving his famous first digit and this isn't Green Bay...good luck against the wild cat.
Kevin (Atlanta)
The dolphins will take this game. Favre is done. Amy show some love
Chad (Las Vegas)
Isn't it a prerequisit to be bi-polar to work at ESPN. See Skip Bayless.
Amy Nelson (10:48 AM)
ooh! lowblow...
Mark (Chicago,IL)
thanks. my first and LAST attempt at this stupid chat room thing. doesnt really work when you cant post anything. try harder.
Alonzo (Macon, GA)
Hey, hey, hey...what's with the Amy bashing today??...Ease up and talk sports please.
Amy Nelson (10:50 AM)
Alonzo, where ya been?
David Fairborn, OH
I want to see the Benjamin Button movie but the girl I'm dating threatened me if I see it because of what Brad did to Jen. I don't know, I just think its a good looking movie.
Amy Nelson (10:50 AM)
Was that a serious statement? Is she in real or pretend life?
David M (New York)
I don't think any of my messages are getting on this board - boo!
Rob ((New Orleans))
Did you see Rajon Rondo last night? He killed it.
Amy Nelson (10:51 AM)
That's not gonna get you on the air, mi hermano
Amy Nelson (10:51 AM)
enough with your rondo agenda!
Brandon (Minnesota)
I love amys chats i just wish you would post my highly intelligent comments.
Buzzmaster (Buzz Mansion)
Yup, left the degenerates to hang out with Amy today. Amy, I'll buy you Jock Jams vol 4 for putting up with my subjects.
Amy Nelson (10:52 AM)
jock jams better be fedex to me here...
Jeff (Iowa)
Saw Mickey Rourke last night on Letterman, promoting The Wrestler. The film looks good. Mickey Rourke is living proof you only need 10 functioning brain cells to survive.
Alonzo (Macon, GA)
Hey Amy...lots of work in the field recently. Its rare that I can get in front of a PC during your chat times but it's great to be on today!!
Amy Nelson (10:52 AM)
Alonzo=perfect example of intelligent thought and used to be read on the air nonstop ...
Liz (Big Apple)
Amy- dont settle for the jockjams, ask for the shamwow!
Amy Nelson (10:53 AM)
how creepy is shamwow guy?
The Suits (ESPN)
Good work amy, these minions of buzz are nothing but trouble. We will double your salary starting the first of the year. Thanks again.
Amy Nelson (10:53 AM)
sweet
Kirkland (Dallas)
How about the Chargers MAKE LT practice during the preseason with the rest of the team. Maybe next year they'll learn after 2 subpar years from him.
Amy Nelson (10:53 AM)
i dont get that, not one down? what's up with that?
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Shamwow guy looks a lot like Colin Cowherd though Amy.
Amy Nelson (10:54 AM)
i'm sure colin would be thrilled to hear that!
Billy Mayes
BILLY MAYES HERE AND YOU SHOULD BUY ESPN.360 BECAUSE THEY'RE GIVING ME CHECKS TO SAY THAT!
Evan (Boston)
while pennington may have a water pistol for an arm, I'll take that any day over a qb with a cannon that can't be controlled. I don't know about you guys , but I like when a qb throws to their own team and not the cornerbacks on the other side
Stef (FL)
the chargers should have never let go larenzo neal...thats the problem
Billy Mays (TV)
Who you callin' creepy Amy?
Amy Nelson (10:54 AM)
Shamwow guy=waaaaay creepier than Billy Mayes. Billy is just loud
Efrain (Bayonne NJ)
Amy, there is something LT and the Chargers are not disclosing to the public...I think he's done
Amy Nelson (10:55 AM)
Why?
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
So you are a big fan of Alonzo, huh Amy? And here I thought I was your favorite. I feel so used.
Amy Nelson (10:56 AM)
uh oh ... now i've opened a can of worms johnny, you are also the best.
Janel (New York)
Have anyone noticed Billy Mayes beard and his pony tail and beofre he use to be clean shaven that guy is funny
Lions fan (bag on head)
Come on Lions. Don't go winless. At least win 1 game.
Rod (Madison, FL)
well Ames itz been real...flew bye..isn't that what you were hoping for?
Amy Nelson (10:56 AM)
still got another hour, my friend.
Conrad (Atlanta, Ga)
I love when the football universe trys to balance itself out despite early season controversy. Dolphins/Jets and Broncos/Chargers are the perfect examples
tom* (parkville, md)
Pennington may be the true MVP of the NFL this year.
David Fairborn, OH
I have a man crush on Rondo
Amy Nelson (10:57 AM)
so does my brother
Dan R (Hanover, PA)
I'm done here. You want people to post about "Sports", which I did. Yet we're talking about Billy Mays? Gimme a break!!!
Amy Nelson (10:58 AM)
oh dan lighten up ...
Rod (Madison, FL)
LT is done as long as he as a coach who loves to pass
Janel (New York)
Pennington MVP please. Matt Ryan should be the MVP. He turned that franchise around, and we all use to think the Falcon's players sucked.
William Bartlesville,OK
I think its time for Dallas Cowboy fans to start telling Jerry we want Vick in 09 so he can run that "WildBOYS" offense, with Vick,Barber, and Felix Jones and even Choice has looked good. We've all realized that Romo crumbles in pressure and I'm sure he'll mess up our gamblers luck to the playoffs by throwing three picks in Philly trying to get it to Witten. I already bought my Vick jersey!!! GO BOYS
Travis (Columbus, OH)
Pennington is the MVP. Him or Jenkins for turning the Jets D into a monster.
Ken L. (Warren Michigan)
Can't wait to hear Skips take on the Eagles/Cowboys....I wonder what he will say!
Ken L. (Warren Michigan)
I love how everyone talks bad about Romo choking in the playoffs. He has only been a starter for 2 1/2 years and has the chance to lead them to their 3rd staraight playoff appearance. Talk about expectations!
Luis V (North Carolina)
omg MVP is going to be petterson from the vikings. he is explosive and has crazy yards and is a playmaker
Mike (Mixiland)
Eagles win by 65 Lol
Amy Nelson (11:03 AM)
i think the cowboys will win, but what happens if they don't?
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Up until this past weekend, I was on the AP train for MVP. Two big fumbles in a potential division clincher kind of took him out of the running.
Dave (Long Island, NY)
Both years Romo lead his team to the playoffs they lost to a lower ranked team - that's choking.
Craig (Fremont, NE)
It will be the millionth time we have heard TEAM OBLITERATOR all season long!
Rob ((New Orleans))
Worse teammate: TO/Favre? Imma say Favre.
Travis (Pontiac, IL)
hmm...lemme post this again and see if it gets posted...why is everybody talkin about donovan mcnabb probably being gone next year but nobody is saying that andy reid should be or even will be gone next year?! his GM work is bad considering the lack of WR talent we've had, and yet he still chooses to throw the ball 80% of the time when he has a top 3 RB at his disposal! 1 running play in the 2nd half of a game that we lost by just 7 last week?! RIDICULOUS!
Alonzo (Macon, GA)
Matt Ryan is not the MVP but he is the most impressive rookie quarterback to enter the league since Dan Marino. The Falcons will be in the Superbowl by 2010. Book it.
LaShawn (Bronx, NY)
Boys are dun. Philly is looking for knocking them out for themselves, and don't forget the TO drama with Philly, always comes to the forefront when they play
Ron Zylick
Why is there no discussion about the starting times of the Buffalo-Patriots game at 1:0pm and the Jets Miami game at 4:15. If the Pats win their game the Jets will have nothing to play for in their game....except possibly Mangenious;s job....
Rich (Pawtucket, RI)
rob you must be on something
Kyle-Iowa City
Amy, being a life long Cowboys fan, if they loose another coaching change will be in order. Jerry won't stand by for anything less than Super Bowl contention. Jimmy Johnson is available.
David Fairborn, OH
Turner's signing made it so much easier for Ryan to succeed. Therefore, Ryan shouldn't win the MVP, even though he has had a impressive season.
Amy Nelson (11:05 AM)
yes, he is. im sure of it
Amy Nelson (11:05 AM)
yes, he is. im sure of it
Jack, Chicago
Whats it like to be so low on the totem pole that you have to deal with the lowest common denominator of the ESPN fanbase on Christmas Eve?
Amy Nelson (11:06 AM)
is that nice Jack?
Dave (Long Island, NY)
If you think the Jets are going to play with less effort, you're out of your mind. If you don't make the playoffs, the best thing you can do is ruin someone else's season.
Amy Nelson (11:06 AM)
agreed
bubba (Buffalo)
Say what you will, but I guarentee TO wouldnt lay down and give up a FREE SACK to mock the alltime sack leader...
Rome (New York)
Hey Ron, The Jets will be playing for something regardless because the Ravens-Jags game is at 4 and if the Ravens lose and Jets win, they're in. Don't hold your breath on that tho.
Liz (Big Apple)
I really hope Tom Coughlin sits all the starters including Eli. They really need the 2 weeks off. It's just so hard to repeat as a Champion and i think 2 weeks off will help them.
Ken L. (Warren Michigan)
It's frustrating when the Cowboys lose in the playoffs, but it's probably more frustrating being a Lions fan or any other fan whose team never makes the playoffs.
Brady Quinn (Cleveland Weight Room)
My face, my beautiful face. Quck, somoeone get me my protein shake.
Tommy(East Greenbush, NY)
Guys, I don't understand why the Tennessee Titans or Kerry Collins for that matter aren't getting more love from the media. The get the job done week after week according to the "Fisher" game plan. Yes they laid an egg against the Jets, but the Giants also laid an egg against the Browns who just got shut out by Cincinnati at home. Even when they were undefeated the talk was for the Jets and Giants. I wish NY would fall off the map. Fisher for Coach of the Year and Collins for MVP.
Liz (Big Apple)
I wonder if vince young gets his job back next year. I know kerry collins is an Enigma, but i really think the titans need to give young another chance.
Dave (Long Island, NY)
Collins has done well all season, but he isn't the best player on his team. When you have a cohesive team playing AS A team, MVP's don't arise.
Russ (Fresno, CA)
Sorry, but Kerry Collins is a fluke. He's having a good year, but don't expect the same performance in the playoffs...or next year, for that matter
Steve (Syracuse)
Collins not MVP---but definately comeback player of the year. I would rather not have the press for my team though, if they get the press, the players start to buying into themselves.
Howard (Orlando)
Collins hasn't been all that impressive. I know he can throw way better than he's shown. He's just playing within the system and doing what the coaches ask of him. He has an absolute rocket and has been getting time in the pocket, they just don't have many deep passing routes in their offense.
Steve (Syracuse)
Young will get another shot next year, but I think that it will be a true open competition in camp. If Fisher does one thing--he plays the players who give him the best chance to win.
Luis V (North Carolina)
Comeback player of the year would be chad pennington buddy...look at his numbers compared to favre.
Travis (Columbus, OH)
Is Favre eligible for comeback player of the year? I mean, he retired for an entire 2 seconds...
Craig (Fremont, NE)
This is Kerry Collins' year, He will be serving happy meals next year at this time
Will H. (Chester, VA)
The game will be close, but I still think the Eagles will win by a late field goal or something... and Matt Ryan should be MVP
Lance (New York, N.Y.)
What's everyone stance on potentially two 8-8 NFL teams winning their divisions (Arizona and Denver / San Diego) while a few 10-6 teams will be out (too many to list)?
Amy Nelson (11:14 AM)
8-8=pathetic!
Josh (Texas)
Eagles are gonna win it Sunday and the Wade Phillips farewell tour ends. I don't care what Jerry Jones says, he firing Wade if or should I say when they lose.
Ron (Orlando)
no wait that is not right, if New Englando wins and Miami wins then the jets can not get in the playoffs regardless of what Baltimore does
Fake Ron (Orlando)
Wait, I just want to make it clear that the Lions are not making the playoffs.
Amy Nelson (11:17 AM)
good point
Atma (Lincoln, Maine)
Stephen A's lips are never zipped he is nice though Skip needed some competition But I am still routing for skip
Travis (Pontiac, IL)
why not michael turner for comeback player? all those years being basically hidden by LT and he busts out the year he's had?! one of the best backups at any position in nfl history!
Howard (Orlando)
Wade never should have been the coach for the Cowboys, Parcells has been successful everywhere he has been, including this year as the Dolphins VP of Football Operations, Why does Jerry Jones assume he knows more than Parcells? let alone Wade Phillips knowing more...
Steve (Syracuse)
Lions from 0-16 to 16-0 next year...KITNA WILL BE BACK!
jimmy (LA)
Even tho i love the lakers i dont think we have a chance tomorow the celtics are like the bulls the fantastic 3. Kobey cant take on three all stars. but he can take on 5 good players.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Someone is actually rooting for Skip? This is a Christmas miracle!
Vince (New Jersey):
I agree with Stephen A. Garrett hasn't had a good season, so if Wade does get fired, Jerry should go get a different coach. Coach Cowher if possible.
Russ (Fresno, CA)
Sorry, Wade is the perfect coach. Jones wanted a puppet, and that's what he got. Blame Jones, not Wade Phillips
Steve (Syracuse)
If it was "breakout player" I would go with turner. But comeback implies once great...went away, and then back to greatness. Turner was a backup, and brokeout this year...not really a "comeback"
David M (New York)
I agree Amy. Don't hate Favre because your entire team, including Mangini, have failed you recently. Yes, Chad could've done well in NY or he could've failed. You can't play "what if's" with sports. Stand by your team or sit down and zip your lips.
Howard (Orlando)
Dallas is overrated, all the experts in the beginning of the season had them as the best team in the league, please, football games are not played on pieces of paper or XBox
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Darn it Jimmy from LA we were doing so well with no NBA talk and you went and ruined it.
radman
chad pennington should definitely get comeback player of the year. Especially with the way he was handled by new york. Then going to a team that was 1-15 last year and leading them to a possible division title under a whole new system.
Lance (New York, N.Y.)
Wait a second...Johnny, you have a problem with NBA talk. I must be delusional but the Celtics are 27-2. No team ever started 27-2. I don't ask for much, Ms. Nelson, but I'm begging to talk a little NBA.
Nick (Syracuse, NY)
Chad Pennington is going to go into the Medaowlands, the fans are going to give him a happy clap for his return, and then he is going to dunk and dink his way down the field and lead the Fins to an AFC East title in his former city.
Amy Nelson (11:24 AM)
what a great story that is ...
Travis (Columbus, OH)
I have a problem with that "entire team" comment, as it's really been around Favre. The defense has played very well this year, and the run game has been strong. But Mangini just keeps going back to the drying well that is Favre, and he's been pulling up an empty bucket rather often.
Mixi (Mixiland)
Mike Smith or Tony Sparano for Coach Of The Year?
Will H. (Chester, VA)
radman is right, pennington is going through a quarterback renaissance and will beat the Jets, the additions of Pennington and Jake Long will make the Dolphins a solid team for years to come
Darryl (Midway Tennessee)
i wonder what will happen first? Lions have a winning streak, or Yankees win a World series??
Amy Nelson (11:26 AM)
Darryl, Wow, great question and I think I'll have to take the Yankees winning a WS at this pointl
Mike (Mixiland)
Yankees win a World Series...LOL
Brian (Palm Desert Ca)
yankees win world series. LOL
Atma (Lincoln, Maine)
Winning streak is 2 games right? Guess the yankees are gonna win first if the lions draft a WR
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Amy knows how I feel about the NBA. Too many teams make the playoffs, the playoffs are too long, and the games are pretty meaningless until around March. The only thing worth talking about for me won't happen until 2010.
Alonzo (Macon, GA)
I hate to say it but....Belichick should get coach of the year. I mean, the dude lost Tom Brady in game one and has won 10 games with Scott Mitchell's little brother at the helm. If that ain't a great coaching job I don't know what is.
Travis (Columbus, OH)
Unfortunately, the Yankees will win another World Series. The Lions, however, probably never will win a Super Bowl, and have the worst odds to do so. Yes, even behind Cincinnati.
Amy Nelson (11:29 AM)
right but all that was asked was a winning streak, which is two games....can they win two in a row before the end of next october?
Josh (Texas)
Let's talk basketball. How about that Hawks/Celtics game last week? I thought that Boston's streak will end the way the Hawks were playing. The Hawks are gonna be serious title contenders in a couple of years if they can keep this up. As for Boston, I don't think they will lose until 2009.
Clinton (Indianapolis)
Well, the Colts game this weekend has no playoff implications...might as well read a book. Any suggestions, Amy?
Amy Nelson (11:33 AM)
What is the What, by Dave Eggers
radman
The Yanks may not even win the world series next year. That would give the Lions two seasons to win two in a row. I say win streak first
Mike (Mixiland)
The Hawks will stumble. They're gonna regret letting Childress go
david in dallas (DFW)
Watch the Yankees implode - just like the Cowboys...
Brian (Palm Desert Ca)
Lakers will win it this year you just can't deny KOBE again.
Travis (Columbus, OH)
Basketball? You mean there are sports outside of football and baseball?
Ticket Tape (NY Offices)
I will be all over the place in October 2009 for the parade for the Yankees.. poor trees
Travis (Columbus, OH)
Nah red, I'll give it t the Yankees. I can see the Lions not winning two in a row for a few seasons. Yikes.
Amy Nelson (11:35 AM)
But Skip just made a good point, the NFL turns around more than any other league.
Will H. (Chester, VA)
I still think the Lions have a good chance of finishing 0-16 next year if they keep playing this miserably...there is no quarterback that will be able to change the losing habits of the Lions... I say the Yanks will win the World Series first
Clinton (Indianapolis)
And in both directions, too. Exhibit A: Cleveland from last year to this year.
Ryan (San Diego)
Someone tell Clinton he should be keeping an eye on San Diego very closely. They are gunning for the colts
Travis (Pontiac, IL)
the words "Skip" and "Good point" hardly ever belong in the same sentence, so when it happens, it's noteworthy
Stafford (GA)
I really hope that the Lions don't pick me first in the draft. Pick Sam Bradford please.
Alonzo (Macon, GA)
The Yankees won't mirror the Cowboys for one simple reason. The baseball season allows for a swoon here and there that won't kill your season. Swoon in the NFL and you're pretty much done. With their rotation in tact and injury free the Yanks should cruise through the season.
Amy Nelson (11:38 AM)
so if you could pick one NFL game to watch this weekend what would it be and why?
Person{Pittsburgh}
The Charges are sneakin up on a lot of people
Liz (Big Apple)
I'm picking the Jets/Dolphins- its just going to be an awesome game with so much pressure on The jets and i really hope they thrive on the pressure.
radman
New York and Miami, I can smell heartbreak waiting to happen!
Nick (Syracuse, NY)
Fins v Jets, Chad comes back, Brett's last games, 1-15 to AFC East Champs. I mean it does not get much better when it comes to storylines.
Person{Pittsburgh}
Charges and Broncos. It is just amazing how the charges have rebounded
Josh (Texas)
Amy that is an easy question. Lions vs Packers. History in the making. 0-16!!!
Will H. (Chester, VA)
I think the Chargers vs Broncos game will be good... two teams that have bad blood from their first meeting with the AFC West on the line
Travis (Columbus, OH)
I'd pick the Jets/Dolphins. I'm not that interested in watching the Cowboys get punched in the mouth again.
Chad Pennington (Miami)
Me, baby. Me!!
Alonzo (Macon, GA)
Dallas vs. Philly aka The Desperation Bowl. Andy Reid and Wade Phillips waddling around clueless for 3 hrs with T.O. in Philly dodging batteries...great times!
Amy Nelson (11:42 AM)
sweet...
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Jets-Dolphins is intriguing because of the Dolphin ties to the Jets (Pennington and Parcells) as well as the playoff implications of the game. Throw in the Unretired One and you have on heck of a story line.
Chad Pennington (Miami)
I wann thank the NY Bretts for releasing me and rejuvinating my career. I'm now on a team that has a open playbook and likes to take chances. Thanks again New York Bretts!!
Efrain (Bayonne NJ)
I expect Chad to throw a nice 10 yard bomb on Sunday
Pete (NC)
If we're talking an entire game, Car/NO because of 1000 yds of offense. But if we're talking final minute, Miami/NYJ to see who breaks the 0-0 tie.
Shaun Smith (Cleveland, OH)
Yeah, I punched Quinn. Now where's my medal? I deserve it for putting up with pretty boy for as long as I did.
Amy Nelson (11:44 AM)
is that nice, shaun?
Chris (Ann Arbor, Michigan)
I'd have to disagree with Bayless, as usual. The dynasties in football happen the same way they do in baseball. In fact, the dynamic nature of hockey keeps the NHL churning more thoroughly than the other sports.
Amy Nelson (11:46 AM)
totally disagree. what the rays did this year does not happen that often in baseball...
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Wait, someone punched Brady Quinn? I missed that story.
Amy Nelson (11:47 AM)
how did you miss that one?
Liz (Big Apple)
I dont get why Quinn is hated on so much.. must be all those endorsements..if it wasnt for quinn, i would have thought myloplex was an anacid
Amy Nelson (11:47 AM)
it's because he's pretty, he's anoited, he's on that EAS commercial every 10 seconds without having accomplished a thing. that's why people hate. oh, and he went to notre dame and who wouldn't hate that?
Efrain (Bayonne NJ)
Dynamic and hockey should never again be used in the same sentence
Rich (Pawtucket, RI)
Amy, MERRY CHRISTMAS & Catch you out here next time :)
Efrain (Bayonne NJ)
Who's Brady Quinn and is he related to that medicine woman?
Liz (Big Apple)
Amy.. you recommended 2 movies... what do you think about the new movie doubt with Phillip Seymour hoffman and meryl streep? I am going to see that. And YES man...
Amy Nelson (11:49 AM)
love seymour hoffman and will see pretty much anything he's in
Craig (Fremont NE)
Quinn was pretty much asking for a wooping because of all his Eas commercials b4 he was even a starter and wearing all the children's small shirts to make his guns look large!
Amy Nelson (11:49 AM)
point taken
Travis (Columbus, OH)
hey Amy, there's a rumor about the new Batman movie that Mr. Hoffman is being tapped to play Penguin. How awesome would that be? And Mr. Depp is being pursued to play Riddler.
Amy Nelson (11:50 AM)
depp as riddler is awesome. totally for it
Chris Martin (London)
My band is the most overrated band in the world, no?
Amy Nelson (11:51 AM)
the worst!
Clinton (Indianapolis)
Okay, he's supposed to turn down the money from an endorsement just because he's not a starter yet? That might be the dumbest thing I've heard this morning.
Amy Nelson (11:51 AM)
i dont blame him for doing the commercial, just stinks for him that he couldnt start right away and at least (sort of) justify it
Josh (Texas)
Time to wrap presents. Merry Christmas everyone and a special shout out to all the retail employees who worked during this time of year putting up with fools during this time of year. I used to work on the other side of the counter so I know how you guys feel.
Dirk Diggler (the 70's)
So amy, you're saying you liked Boogie Nights...hoffman was in that!
Amy Nelson (11:53 AM)
dirk you were the best singer of all time!
Amy Nelson (11:54 AM)
everyone thanks very much for spending your morning chatting., was a bit hectic here this morning so thanks for sticking with it. have a great holiday!
Amy Nelson (11:54 AM)
and enjoy the games this weekend!
