Steve Muench (2:04 PM)
I hope everyone is enjoying the Holidays and ready to talk football.

which Cal Bears will be playing on Sundays?
Steve Muench (2:07 PM)
There are too many list here but here are some of them: OC Alex Mack OLB Zack Follett ILB Worrell Williams OT Michael Tepper
Steiny (NYC)
Can either Ramses Barden or Jarett Dillard slip into the first round?
Steve Muench (2:08 PM)
Barden has a chance but I think he's more of a second-round pick. I see Dillard going in the middle rounds.
Steiny (NYC)
Can you see Aaron Maybin sneaking into the top 10?
Steve Muench (2:09 PM)
It's a real possibility.
Steve (NJ)
Steve...HEres a question no one will answer for me. I am a huge rutgers fan. What Rutgers players do you see making it to the NFL and being an impact?
Steve Muench (2:11 PM)
WR Kenny Britt is the most obvious of the names but I think DE Jamal Westerman could eventually make some noise.
Anthony Dyer, IN
How does Mo Crum project?
Steve Muench (2:13 PM)
I'm not real high on Crum right now. I think he's a tough player who plays hard every snap. But he doesn't have great range or agility and even more concerning he doesn't have great instincts.
Steve Muench (2:13 PM)
I think he'll get drafted late as a result.
Will J (Portland, OR)
Steve, why do you suppose Cal is starting Longshore this weekend v. Miami, instead of Riley? Is this like "senior day", because it's Longshore's last college game?
Steve Muench (2:14 PM)
I guess he's been practicing better but I am more than a little surprised by the move.
Steiny (NYC)
Happy Holidays to you and your family.
Steve Muench (2:15 PM)
thanks and same to you.
Steiny (NYC)
Is Brandon Pettigrew the best TE in the Draft?
Steve Muench (2:17 PM)
He is the best overall tight end in the draft yes but he doesn't have the big-play ability of OU's Jermaine Gresham or Missouri's Chase Coffman. I think Gresham is the first of these three off the board if he declares.
Aditya (Iowa City)
Merry Christmas and a happy new year! Do you think Shonn Greene will declare for the draft after the Outback bowl and, asuming he declares, where will he get picked?
Steve Muench (2:20 PM)
The truth is I have no idea whether or not he will come out. I know that he's an older prospect so he's probably ready to make the jump. That said, I predict he goes in the second round if he does declare for the draft.
Matt (Philadelphia)
Is it a true statement that Stafford has the bigger upside physically but Bradford is more polished with better intangibles?
Steve Muench (2:22 PM)
Yes that is true but the gulf in talent between the two is not that big.
Josh (Oklahoma City)
Does Sam Bradford need to come out now? Yes or No and why?
Steve Muench (2:23 PM)
No because I think he will be the first quarterback taken and a top five pick whether he comes out this year or stays for another.
Melody Jones (Indianapolis)
Who should draft Chase Daniel and what are his chances of being an NFL Starter?
Steve Muench (2:26 PM)
I thin he fits best on teams that run some kind of version of the west coast offense. As far as him developing into a legit NFL starter, his height is a real issue so he has an uphill battle in front of him. That said, he's such a fierce competitor that's tough to count him out.
Otto (CA)
Steve, do you think the 49ers would be getting ready for the playoffs right now had they traded for Favre?
Steve Muench (2:28 PM)
Honestly no. I still think Arizona wins that conference and the 49ers would have had to have won ten games to win the wildcard. I just don't think Favre would have made that big a difference.
Anthony Dyer, IN
Golden Tate and Michael Floyd, playmakers in the NFL?
Steve Muench (2:29 PM)
I think so but both are young so let's see how they develop.
Dajaun Baltimore,Md
Will one more year at Texas help Colt McCoy develop into a future NFL star?AND if yes who has the better career Vince Young or Colt McCoy?
Steve Muench (2:31 PM)
Not that much because McCoy has been that good this year and he's a three-year starter. He also projects as a better NFL quarterback at this point in their careers.
Mike (MN)
Steve, love your stuff. What are you thoughts on the improvements Coach Brewster has made with the Gophers? Will we see more improvement next year?
Steve Muench (2:31 PM)
They really struggled down the stretch and the early part of the schedule was soft so I still think he has a lot of work to do.
Brian (NC)
Better NFL prospect: Alex Mack or Max Unger?
Steve Muench (2:33 PM)
I'll take Mack but I'm certainly not going to worry about if I end up with Unger. Both appear to have bright NFL futures.
Matt (Philadelphia)
Do any mid-major QBs have a shot at going in the first few rounds? Brandstater or Brian Johnson maybe?
Steve Muench (2:33 PM)
Ball State's Nate Davis
Will J (Portland, OR)
Steve, do you like the new trend in college, where teams are successors to programs, without doing a national search (FSU, Tex, Ore, etc)?
Steve Muench (2:35 PM)
I did at first but I was missing the elephant in the room. I now think it's just as important that colleges follow the Rooney rule just like the NFL does.
Brian (NC)
Could you elaborate on why you prefer Mack over Unger? (sorry, I should have included that in the first place)
Steve Muench (2:39 PM)
No problem Brian. I like follow ups b/c they can spark a debate. Under is admittedly the better drive blocker but Mack is no slouch in that area. He's also the better athlete and pass blocker in my opinion. And if you are an Unger fan you should know that draft wiz Todd McShay agrees with you.
Drew (SoCal)
How come nobody is talking about BYU's Austin Collie as one of the top WR prospects? He's big, he's fast, has great hands and is great after the catch.
Drew (SoCal)
How come nobody is talking about BYU's Austin Collie as one of the top WR prospects? He's big, he's fast, has great hands and is great after the catch.
Steve Muench (2:42 PM)
Collie has put up some eye-popping numbers and I think he will develop into a quality No. 2 receiver in the NFL.But he plays in a mid-major and he lacks elite natural ability. More importantly, receivers like Michael Crabtree and Jeremy Maclin are just dripping with potential so Collie has been overshadowed.
Dajaun (Baltimore)
Who's the next NFL star out of Florida State?
Steve Muench (2:45 PM)
DE Everette Brown. I watched some film on him the other day and I can't tell you how impressed I am. He threw this outside-in move at the tackle and he looked like a running back breaking a linebackers' ankle in space. He's just so fluid and his excellent closing speed doesn't hurt either.
Steve (NJ)
Cult McCoy or Bradford to build your franchise around? and will either of them havbe the impact Matt Ryan had this season?
Steve Muench (2:45 PM)
Bradford could and I take him ahead of McCoy right now.
Brian (Palm Desert CA)
Steve do you think Flordia is going to stomp Oklahoma consisering how good both there offense and defense is?
Steve Muench (2:47 PM)
Nope. I expect a close game to be honest. Florida's defense is good but Oklahoma's offense is the best in the nation even with the injuries. In addition, the Sooners have the athletes on defense to slow Tebow and Co. down. It sets up as a classic in my mind.
Josh (Dallas)
so now with really the bcs bowl games remaining and tcu and bsu done what bowl game do you have on your radara as a must watch?
Steve Muench (2:50 PM)
I like the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl. Oregon and Oklahoma State have two of the most versatile and potent ground games in the nation. G-Tech-LSU in the Chik-fil-A bowl is another one I'm excited to watch.
Drew (SoCal)
I guess it's virtually impossible for a white WR like Collie in today's game to have any natural ability whatsoever. White WR's are just high work ethic possession guys.
Steve Muench (2:56 PM)
Drew I could have easily skipped over this comment but I think it's worth talking about. Race has nothing to do with it. If you have had a chance to watch all three players Crabtree, Maclin, and Collie) on film, I can't see you disagreeing with my assessment. Crabtree and Maclin are just on another level than the 99% of college receivers regardless of their races. I also said he lacks elite natural ability not "he doesn't have any natural ability whatsoever." So if you want to accuse me of something than come out and say it but make sure that you can back it up.
Josh (Dallas)
Well said Drew! Im glad you someone hast the gut to say that
Steve Muench (2:57 PM)
Wow really? It takes guts to accuse someone of something vial with nothing to back it up?
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Steve, do you think Penn State will give USC a tougher game than the oddsmakers are predicting? I just don't see the USC offense being great and think the PSU offense will give the Trojans a look they haven't seen much this season. Thoughts?
Steve Muench (2:58 PM)
Yes I do. I couldn't agree with you more. The Trojans have a championship caliber defense but the offense has been far too inconsistent in my mind.
Josh (Dallas)
im not saying he accused you of anything it just seems like in todays game if you are a white reciever you are just thrown under the bus
Steve Muench (3:05 PM)
Look Josh I appreciate the clarification but Drew implied that race played a factor in my evaluation of Collie. He could have said , " steve do you think his race affects Collie's draft status?" but he didn't. All of that said, I don't think that white receivers, running backs etc etc. get "thrown under the boss" and here's why. Teams want to win and they will take the player they think heps them the best regardless of skin color.
Will J (Portland, OR)
Steve, I just hate the fact that people can't accept most people assess talent based on exactly that....talent. Race has nothing to do with it. If Lebron was white, I'm almost positive he'd be getting the same hype he is now.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
For Josh and Drew: Steve actually said Collie lacks ELITE natural ability, not natural ability altogether. Let's pay attention gentlemen before playing the race card without any basis.
Steve Muench (3:09 PM)
Thanks guys. Tough note to end on and I can't remember the last time I've been so bothered by a comment but I don't want to duck tough issues/comments either. Anyways. thanks for all the great comments this week and I look forward to doing it again next week. Take care.
