Chris Low (1:09 PM)
Sorry I was a little tardy. Hope everybody had a nice Christmas. Let's chat.
Daniel (Raleigh, NC)
Why has Alabama been choosen as the team to play in the ACC/SEC opener both times?
Chris Low (1:11 PM)
The Atlanta group that also runs the Chick-fil-A Bowl has simply worked out a deal with Alabama both times, and Alabama has been willing to do it. Not every team in the SEC is willing to go to a neutral site and play a marquee opponent. I think you'll see it move around among teams, though.
Doug (newport beach, ca)
Chris..live time ole miss rebel here..i was very nervous about playing this game when we were slotted to play Texas Tech but the more time I have to think about this, the more I feel we will end up not only winning but winning big...Your thoughts on the game??
Chris Low (1:13 PM)
I don't know about winning big, because I think Texas Tech will score points. To me, the first quarter will be critcial. If Ole Miss moves the ball and scores early, that's a bad sign for Texas Tech. The other thing I wonder is how pumped is Texas Tech to be in the Cotton Bowl after being the odd team out in the Big 12 in the BCS equation. Ole Miss, on the other hand, sees the Cotton Bowl as its chance to make a big statement about where the progam is headed.
Jim (Birmingham, Al)
Word is UT's administration is giving Kiffen fits about hiring Orgeron for his staff...any truths??
Chris Low (1:15 PM)
I'd say those fits are financially based. I think Kiffin has gone back and asked for more money to put together the staff he wants.
Josh(Gadsden,AL)
What do you think of Cizick hiring Gus Malzahn as his OC?
Chris Low (1:22 PM)
I like the hire as long as Auburn can recruit to that system and find a quarterback that can run that offense. The other thing is that Malzhan won't be swimming upstream against a staff that doesn't believe in the spread the way Tony Franklin was with some of Tuberville's longtime assistants.
Brett (Tampa, FL)
Who do you see being the next star QB in the SEC?
Chris Low (1:22 PM)
That would be Jevan Snead, who showed glimpses of being a star this season.
Ben (Columbus, OH)
Chris, in your opinion, what does Utah need to do to keep up with Alabama so it doesn't turn into a blowout?
Chris Low (1:24 PM)
Get the Tide into some third-and-long situations and forcing John Parker Wilson to throw the ball. Of course, hardly anyone has been able to do that this season.
Trey (Tuscaloosa, AL)
First off, wanted to say that I really enjoyed the Q&A with Antoine Caldwell, he's a really special player and deserves to finally get some pub! Also, I was curious what underclassmen you thought might be leaving the conference early this year (Andre, Knowshon, Stafford, most likely, but what about guys like Hardy, Peria, or Ricky Jean Francois?)
Chris Low (1:28 PM)
Antoine, to me, is one of the first players I would pick in this conference if I were starting my own team. As for underclassmen coming out, I think there will be a lot -- Andre Smith, Matthew Stafford, Knowshon Moreno, Emanuel Cook, Jared Cook, Greg Hardy, D.J. Moore, Percy Harvin, Antonio Coleman, Sen'Derrick Marks to name a few
Jevan (Dallas, Tx)
Who do you seeing playing in the SEC championship next year??
Chris Low (1:29 PM)
If Tebow stays in school, Florida and Alabama again. Ole Miss could give Bama some trouble in the West. And, really, I like Florida again in the East even if Tebow leaves. Should Stafford and/or Moreno decide to come back to Georgia, that changes things.
Bob(Atlanta, Ga)
were you surprised by Addazio being the new OC? Did Meyer think a team was going to steal him?
Chris Low (1:31 PM)
I'd heard that Addazio was pretty high on Syracuse's list. I'm sure somebody would have come after him. Meyer knows what a commodity he is and took the steps to keep him.
Josh (Warner Robins, Ga)
Obviously, Georgia didn't live up to the hype this year. With Stafford and Moreno possibly leaving, how do you think Georgia will do in 2009?
Chris Low (1:33 PM)
Maybe better than some think because there won't be as many expectations. The OL should be a strength and Samuel and King both have a ton of talent. And then there's A.J. Green, who would make any QB look good. The key is how the defense responds from a disappointing year. There's a reason, too, that Richt seems to win 10 or more games every year. This would be the sixth time in eight years if the Dogs can take care of Michigan State in the Capital One Bowl.
Jimbeaux (Baton Rouge, LA)
what changes do you think Chavis will make at LSU?
Chris Low (1:35 PM)
The first change he will make is that the Tigers will play up to their potential and talent level on defense. I think he may bring his defensive line coach, Dan Brooks, with him. Chavis is one of the more respected defensive coordinators in the country and the Tigers are fortunate to get him. He's had a bunch of chances when he was at Tennessee to go elsewhere, but he remained loyal to Fulmer.
Mikey (Chicago)
Hey Chris, how many games do you think Charlie Weis needs to win next year to stay at Notre Dame, and how many do you see the Irish winning?
Chris Low (1:39 PM)
At least eight wins in the regular season. The key is being at least 3-2 coming out of the open date and going into the Southern California game, because they have a home game against Boston College the next week. All in all, I don't think they schedule is quite as hard as it was this year. But, then, I thought the Irish would win easily over Syracuse, too.
Nick ( Columbus, Oh)
Hey Chris, College Football is almost over and its been great but just a quick thought who do you see as the top 2 teams for next year?
Chris Low (1:42 PM)
Florida (assuming Tebow comes back) and Texas
Braxton (Huntington, WV)
Will Percy Harvin be 100% for the Championship Game?
Chris Low (1:43 PM)
No, I don't think 100 percent, but he'll be close enough that he will be plenty effective. And when he's on the field, history has shown that he scores a touchdown.
Joey (Florence, AL)
Chris, any inside info on where Alabama will finish recruiting? Most resources have them in the top 5 and still with a lot of big names predicted to end up in Tuscaloosa.
Chris Low (1:46 PM)
As long as Nick Saban is at Alabama, the Tide will be a fixture in the Top 10 in recruiting. He's excellent at molding teams and developing talent, but he's just as good at recruiting. Yes, they're headed for another Top 5 class. And if they get Louisiana receiver Rueben Randle, they might flirt with No. 1 again.
Nick (Atlanta, GA)
How many more years going 8-5,7-5, etc. do you think Spurrier can handle? If South Carolina has another mediocre year do you think he walks?
Chris Low (1:47 PM)
About one more. If they Gamecocks lose five or more games against next season, I think that could well be Spurrier's last.
vegas
USC is favored over Florida, yet USC isn't going to play in the "deserving" mythical national championship.. Do you think Vegas should be the only poll that matters since it has no bias..?
Chris Low (1:48 PM)
What I think is that we need a playoff. How's this for a first-round game in an eight-team format: Alabama vs. Southern California?
Ben (Atlanta, GA)
Were you surprised that UGA hung on to OL coach Stacy Searels? Him coming back means great things for that young, talented UGA OL.
Chris Low (1:49 PM)
Best recruit Georgia could sign by far. I think the offensive line will be the Bulldogs' strength next season.
Justin (St. Louis)
Out of the three, list the teams you would want to play the least in order: Florida, OU, USC.
Chris Low (1:50 PM)
Florida, then USC and then Oklahoma.
Nick (FL)
I've heard a lot of "experts" cite, as a key to the BCS title game, how Florida's "undersized" defensive line will handle OU's offensive line. Given that Florida's defensive line is bigger than OU's defensive line and Florida's offensive line is also bigger than their OU counterparts, shouldn't Oklahoma be concerned about how its undersized defensive line?
Chris Low (1:53 PM)
I felt like the most underrated part of Florida's team this season was the Gators' offensive line. They held their own against everybody they played and were a big reason the Gators controlled the ball in the fourth quarter against a terrific Alabama defense. That said, Florida's offensive line will hold up fine against Oklahoma.
joe, new orleans, LA
who's LSU's starter going into 2009? Jordan Jefferson, Jarrett Lee or Russell Shepard?
Chris Low (1:55 PM)
Jefferson will start the first game, but I bet we see Mr. Shepard before the first month is over. He'll be around for spring practice, so I could see both playing. I don't see Lee factoring into the equation.
jared (westerville, OH)
which game will be the best bcs bowl that isn't the tittle game?
Chris Low (1:56 PM)
Penn State vs. Southern California in the Rose Bowl
Justin (Dallas, TX)
Hey Chris. how do you see my ole miss rebels doing next season?
Chris Low (1:57 PM)
10-3, including the bowl win.
Jake (Mobile, AL)
Chris, Quick take on the SEC bowl games coming up? S. Carolina, UGA, UF, LSU, etc..
Chris Low (1:59 PM)
Don't think LSU will be able to slow down Georgia Tech's option. I've got Georgia winning big over Michigan State. Too much offense for the Spartans. I've gone back and forth on the Gamecocks. They ended the season with such a thud. I think Ellis Johnson's defense will do the job, though, and they win a close one. I've also got Florida outscoring Oklahoma and winning by double digits.
Justin( Chandler,az)
Who wins todays game? Rutgers or N.C. State?
Chris Low (2:01 PM)
I'm going with the Wolfpack. They ended the season hot and will stay hot.
Ralph, Pittsburgh
rumor had it that Orgeron was playing Tennessee just to get a better deal out of LSU. What do you think he does: Tennessee, LSU, or stays with the Saints?
Chris Low (2:01 PM)
I still think he will end up at Tennessee.
Matt (Denver)
Knowing Nick Saban aka "The Wanderer", do you think he has interest in the Detroit Lions job?
Chris Low (2:02 PM)
He's been down that road before. So no.
Jacob (Chicago)
Chris, offense or not, Georgia's "D" leaves little to be desired. Don't you think MSU can at least keep it close or did the Penn State and Ohio State games expose them?
Chris Low (2:03 PM)
Yes, I think the Spartans will score, too. Everybody has against Georgia. The Bulldogs are just so balanced offensively that I see them winning something like 34-21.
Mo (NYC)
Does Rashaad Johnson make an impact at the next level?
Chris Low (2:04 PM)
I think Rashad Johnson makes an impact on any team in which he's a member. A lot like Antoine Caldwell, you win with people like Rashad.
Chris Low (2:05 PM)
Gotta run. Thanks for the questions and get settled in for a full week of football.
