Jeremy Green (1:03 PM)
Hello and welcome to football Friday!!
Steiny (NYC)
The Chiefs have offered Scott Pioli the job of general manager. Do you think he will accept, and if so would this be a good fit for the Chiefs?
Jeremy Green (1:05 PM)
They are still negotiating but I think he would be a great fit. I have heard one of the biggest holdups right now is the owner wants him to keep Herm for at least this season and Pioli is ready to put his stamp on the organization now which is what they should let him do.
chauncey (teaneck)
can Tim Tebow play in the NFL?
Jeremy Green (1:06 PM)
He will get drafted by I just don't see it. What he shows in that offense does not translate to the NFL. Running draws. One of the most glaring weaknesses I see we saw on that first pick... he just floated that out route.
joe (boston)
If Pioli takes the job will Josh McDanilels join him inKN?
Jeremy Green (1:07 PM)
That is a possibility but it needs to happen quick. McDaniels is making his second trip to Denver and I think a deal could get done within the next 1-2 days.
adam (Houston)
Who do think will end up in Houston as the DC?
Jeremy Green (1:34 PM)
There are a lot of candidates and I am not sure, but I would take a crack at Mike Nolan, who may also go to Green Bay.
Mike (Dallas)
What did you think of Bradford's performance? Where would you see him go if he chooses to go through the the draft?
Jeremy Green (1:35 PM)
He did not have opne of his better games, but I think the UF D played a great game. I do think we see that the speed is a little better in the SEC than the Big 12 and the biggest thing he will need to adjust to is the speed of the game, but I still think he will be a top 5 pick if he comes out.
Jason (Indiana)
Do you think the Bears made the right decision to fire everyone on the defensive side of the ball besides the DC Bob Babich?
Jeremy Green (1:36 PM)
I think they should have gotten everyone including the DC. The talent is there on D, and the money has been invested, but they do not look motivated and they don;t seem to play hard all the time. And that is a reflection on the DC.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
JG, can you see Kurt Warner with the Vikings next season or will it be Year 3 of the Tavaris Jackson Experiment?
Jeremy Green (1:38 PM)
If the Cards stay hot, I see Warner back. He was at an MVP level this year, and I am not sure Matt Leinart is the future for them, at least from what the organization has seen. Kurth has played in the spread, and not really west coast system guy.
Jeremy Green (1:39 PM)
But the Vikes have to do something at the QB, and I think a more likely candidate is Jerff Garcia. The Vikings are a Super Bowl ready team, except at the QB.
Nick (Boston)
What are the odds Nnamdi leaves Oakland? I think he'd look fantastic in Foxboro.
Jeremy Green (1:40 PM)
I think he is the best shutdown guy in the NFL. I think his chance of staying are better with Hall leaving, and they are going to make some more cuts to save money long term. He is a franchise CB and they love man coverage and I just can't see Al letting the best cover corner in the NFL get out the door.
patrick (st. lou)
Who will be the head coach for Rams in 09 and who do they target at #2 overall in draft?
Jeremy Green (1:43 PM)
They need to help the OL. I think Andre Smith is the guy here. In terms of a coach, I think this is a team that should go with a veteran. A young coach did not work, but a guy like Jim Fassel would be perfect because he has experience and he has won.
Jake (SLO, CA)
JG - if you are AJ Smith, do you keep Sproles or LT next year? I know that it would be a PR nightmare getting rid of LT, but I would argue that Sproles (even as a 1A or 1B RB) is more valuable at this point due to his return skills and big play ability.
Jeremy Green (1:44 PM)
I think it will depend on the cost od Sproles. Sproles to me is not Michael Turner. He is a sepcialty type guy, and they want to keep him, but he is not a franchise type running back in my opinion.
Mike (Cleveland)
What does your scouting eye say that the Browns need to address with their first pick in the upcoming draft? I'd say ILB or Safety.
Jeremy Green (1:45 PM)
They tried to address the front end of the D last year, and yes ILB is a need and they could add a CB or two, and yes a safety is a need as well.
steph (cincy)
Your thoughts one of my favorite Buckeyes, Chris Wells?
Jeremy Green (1:46 PM)
I know he has declared and lot will depend on his post season workouts, especially how fast he runs. I think he has great upside, and has great accelration. Teams will want to know how well he can catch it out of the backfield. I think he is a Top 5 back in the draft class.
Steiny (NYC)
Do you think the Giants will beat the Eagles at home?
Jeremy Green (1:48 PM)
I like the eagles in this game. They are a confident team that can look back to their late season win in NY, and game that was not as close as the final score. I just do not think the Giants are the same team as last year. The Eagles with their run defense will be able to stop the run and that will put too much pressure on Eli and I think he will struggle.
Otto (CA)
What would it take for the 49ers to get Matt Leinart? I think he'd be perfect in a ball-control offense.
Jeremy Green (1:50 PM)
I do not know if Leinart has a future in Arizona, but I think if they had an option they would not let him go to a team in the division. It is also hard to tell because the 49ers still do not have an OC. He has the physical tools, but he needs to work a little hard. I think that is why Warner was able to take over in arizona, because his work ethic is outstanding.
Jmerms (NYC)
Who do you got for the NFC championship game?
Jeremy Green (1:51 PM)
I have Carolina and Philly. We already talked about the Eagles, but Carolina is 8-0 at home and the Cards do not travel well and weather will be a factor, and you need to run the ball on the road, and I do not think Arizona will be able to run effectively on the road.
Jmerms (NYC)
Who was your choice for MVP?
Jeremy Green (1:52 PM)
If there was ever the year for a guy on D, this was it. If I could have given the award out I would have given it to Ed Reed, who has been able to take over games and right now is the best defensive player in the game.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
OK JG so where WOULD be a good fit for Leinart?
Jeremy Green (1:54 PM)
Anybody who is looking for a young starting QB. Detroit is a god place to start. I think tampa would be a great spot. Gruden has been successful with young guys, and coach would make him work and get a lot out of him. I think he can still play
Jake (Baltimore)
I asked this of Matt Williamson the other day, so I'll ask you as well. You're a GM, with no roster right now, and to start your team you can choose either Flacco or Romo. Who are you taking?
Jeremy Green (1:55 PM)
WOW! I will take Romo. I think Joe Flacco is going to be a good QB, but he has a great running game and a great defense. Flacco cannot put this team on his shoulder, and yes Romo has struggled in the big games, but as far as pure talent and the potential to put a team on your back, I will go with romo.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Do you see weather also playing a big factor in the Steelers/Chargers game?
Jeremy Green (1:57 PM)
It is supposed to snow tomorrow and flurries on Sunday. The first game was played on a bad surface and it will be bad again. I think it will be an issue and will hinder San Diego more, even though they played well last time. I think it affect Sproles, as a guy who rellies on bursts and quick cuts. It will be tough for him to play his game on that surface,
Dave (DC)
What's up with Arizona last week passing out immitation Terrible Towels: the NFL releasing championship towels? Pitiful, cheap immitations. Start your own, uinque traditions.
Jeremy Green (2:00 PM)
It seems like every stadium has towel waving...I have been to almost every stadium in the NFL and stood on many sidlines, and Pittsburgh fans know how to use the towels and nothing is more intimidating than when those Steelers fans bust out the terrible towel.
Brian (Boston, MA)
Wow, it's come to this for Romo? Forget Eli, Big Ben, etc...fans are questioning whether or not he's as good as Flacco!
Jeremy Green (2:01 PM)
Well...Flacco has won more playoff games.
Marc (Malden, MA)
So both the Browns and Chiefs wanted to hire Pioli, but not let him pick the coach...that is so stupid.
Jeremy Green (2:02 PM)
Well I am not sure that was the biggest hold up with the Browns, although it was a hold up of some kind. But agree, if you bring in Pioli let him do his job and execrcise his knowledge and to do that he needs total control.
Jeremy Green (2:03 PM)
Thanks everyone for coming in. I got the Ravens, Panthers, Eagles, Steelers.
