Scott will be here to chat at 12:30 ET. Get your questions in now and join us then!
ESPNRadio.com (12:30 PM)
Alright everyone...Scott is here. He'll be hosting "Tirico & Van Pelt" on ESPN Radio at 1pm...co-hosting with Stephen A. Smith. Fire away!
Scott Van Pelt (12:31 PM)
I'm in a lousy mood...Maryland had a 17 point 2nd half lead and lost by 2. It's 10 degrees outside, humor me.
Sam, Auburn, AL
Did you ever give Lebron his chair back? He look pretty pissed about it.
Scott Van Pelt (12:31 PM)
As I told Lebron, that was my chair. Everyone should have a red velvet chair with a spotted palomino throw rug.
Nate (NYC)
I'm assuming you saw the terps fold last night, how hard is it being a Maryland fan?
Scott Van Pelt (12:33 PM)
It's all part of being a fan. I was there when they won it all, I was watching last night when the lead got away. What are you gonna do?
Kreger (Boston)
Van peezy, do they really give tours of ESPN like in the Kenny Mayne clip? I'm def stealing your stapler..
Scott Van Pelt (12:35 PM)
They do actually, I'm not sure how you get on the list...but they do give tours. I keep my office locked...but there's nothing in there worth stealing.
MH (Chicago)
the wind chill here is -27... should i give up my cavs vs. bulls tickets tonight and watch at home?
Scott Van Pelt (12:35 PM)
Lebron in person is worth it. Throw on a hat and a scarf, suck it up. I mean if it was the Wizards...
Sunny Beck (Salt Lake City)
If you could host your show with any one sports personality who would it be? (excluding Tirico of course)
Scott Van Pelt (12:37 PM)
That's an interesting question. Kevin Garnett might be fun because he's nuts...and he can do that Superman music until I punched him.
Chad (Las Vegas)
SVP What are you more excited about March Madness or Tiger's return to golf?
Scott Van Pelt (12:37 PM)
I am looking forward to seeing Tiger come back because he makes everything more interesting. But March Madness is March Madness. I look forward to that as much as anything...always.
Jmerms (NYC)
Scott, I have a Hockey Game tomorrow in central park. Its supposed to be -22 wind-chill, is it worth going?
Scott Van Pelt (12:38 PM)
How good are you? I mean if you're good...then yeah. But if you're like a role player...tomorrow might be a good day to come up with a "lower body injury".
Kreger (Boston)
Who you got in an all out rumble.. Rampage Jackson or Popeye? Big Ups
Scott Van Pelt (12:39 PM)
The Sailor Man??? You can't beat Popeye. Popeye. In a rout.
Dan (Lansing)
Can we give Blake Griffin the POY award now and all go home?
Scott Van Pelt (12:40 PM)
Not yet. Too many games to be played, but he is nasty for sure.
Jmerms (NYC)
Well I am on the second line and its my first year.
Scott Van Pelt (12:40 PM)
Oh you're a rookie? Gotta be there. Because some veterans are DEFINITELY gonna call out sick. This could be your big chance!
Kylie (Austin)
Hey Scott, I know what will cheer you up... look at the Mangino Baby picture! :)
Scott Van Pelt (12:41 PM)
I saw that he won Deadspin's "Sports Human of the Year" which warmed my heart.
Scott Van Pelt (12:41 PM)
I still can't look at that picture without laughing.
Matt, Houston
SVP- I'm going to Vegas during March Madness. Which casino has the best sportsbook to watch the games and will the weather be too cool to check out the chicks at the pools? By the way, it's 60 degrees here today.
Scott Van Pelt (12:43 PM)
The pools won't be open. Mandalay's book is great. Caesar's book is great. Go to any BIG book. They're all fun. Then again, anywhere in Vegas is fun.
Jeff (Detroit)
SVP - got a favorite stand-up comedian these days?
Scott Van Pelt (12:45 PM)
Funny you should ask that. I really like Louis CK and he's at my show today (3:41 PM ET - plug). I also really like Katt Williams, the Ricky Gervaise HBO Special was good too.
Mike (Minneapolis)
The sportsbook at Bally's is tremendously underrated and I bet it won't be as crowded as the other ones you mentioned, but like you said: ANY big book will be a good time for MM.
Chad (Las Vegas)
Why is he asking you about Vegas? Best combo of pool and sportsbook is probably MGM. Best Sportsbook is LV Hilton, best pool is Caesars.
MH (Chicago)
Does Stephen A. like your impersonation of him or does he wanna punch you?
Scott Van Pelt (12:47 PM)
We'll find out in 14 minutes...Stephen is the co-hosting with me...stay tuned! (I think he knows that I'm not trying to clown him...it's just such an obvious imitation to do. It's like low hanging fruit.)
Kreger (Boston)
Please forward my hatred to Matt in Houston .. I'm pretty sure its 2 degrees here.
Matt (Cincinnati)
Harangody and Griffin in the Octagon.......who do you take?
Scott Van Pelt (12:48 PM)
Griffin. He has one of those big Scooby Doo heads. What I mean by that is...it looks like if you hit him in the head, it would hurt your hand more than it hurt his head. (Now Harangody is going to come here and kick my #%$)
Jonathan (Fayetteville)
SVP you got any pets?
Scott Van Pelt (12:49 PM)
No. I had one of those Fighting Fish once, then it died. I'm here 14 hours a day, if I left a dog there, it would be a poo parade when I came home.
Tim Harwood,MD
Scott, Love your show. Who will win the NBA title this year in your opinion?
Scott Van Pelt (12:51 PM)
If the Celtics play defense like they did last May and June...them. If the Cavs come out of the East and meet the Lakers, I'll take the Lakers...by virtue of having been there more often...and because Amanda says so.
Scott Van Pelt (12:51 PM)
I have time for one more question before the show...make it a good one.
Eric (Cincy)
SVP! With what comedian/actor would you want to host Sportscenter with?...I'd love seeing you and Will Ferrel
Scott Van Pelt (12:53 PM)
I could have my buddy Dave Willis from Cartoon Network. He could alternate segments between Carl and Meatwad...with a splash of Mooninites. And also we would be drunk.
Scott Van Pelt (12:53 PM)
Gotta go! My moderator is in SAS's chair!
ESPNRadio.com (12:54 PM)
Check us out at 1pm ET and keep chatting on ESPNRadio.com!
ESPNRadio.com (1:01 PM)
Alright, folks. You've been here before so you know the drill. Listen to Tirico & Van Pelt, keep the comments coming and before you know it we'll be that much closer to the end of the day.
Kylie (Austin)
These chats got so mellow... Where did everyone go??
ESPNRadio.com (1:01 PM)
Maybe everyone is out sledding.
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
Mandalay Bay has the best pool in Vegas...The pools should be open in March...I was there a couple of years back for March Madness and the pool was open. It was actually in the 90's during my entire trip...
Chad (Las Vegas)
What is the square root of 4,761?
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
I think most people have frozen on the top half of the east coast...It was 15 degrees when I left the house this morning...UUGGHH
Matt
Chad: The answer is bacon
Kylie (Austin)
I don't think I could ever handle that kind of cold... it is like 50 here. When I did move away from Texas, I moved to Hawaii...
ESPNRadio.com (1:07 PM)
It was not fun waking up this morning and driving to Bristol. The ride was no bueno. But we're fortunately all here safe and sound. Hope everyone out there is staying warm.
Matt
What Kylie isn't mentioning is that because it's 50, she's wearing 3 layers of clothes, a jacket, boots and gloves.
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
I live in the northern part of MD - it is always 10 degrees colder than in Baltimore (45 minute drive) - horrible - my oldest doesn't care how cold it is - he loves to be outside running around...
Mike (Mpls)
You East Coasters are pansies...it was 21 below zero on my way to work this morning. And that was actual temp, not wind chill.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
C'mon SAS, Philly a great sports town? They wanted Reid and McNabb run out of town a month ago! Philly fans are some of the most fickle and nasty fans in sports. They got a World Champion out of the Phillies. As far as I'm concerned, it's one more than they deserve.
Kylie (Austin)
Hahaha I must admit, I am a cold weather wuss... but just a t-shirt and a hoodie today. No gloves or boots. I'm toughing it out today.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
You live in the Northeast, you deal with the weather. It's not like you didn't know it was coming.
Kylie (Austin)
True that Johnny, which is why I don't live there...
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Hey would you mind asking SAS if the New York Knicks are still terrible?
Lance from Omaha, NE
If you was a wrestling manager, who would you have in your stable?
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
It pains me to hear John Smoltz as a Red Sox pitcher. As a Braves fan who despises the Red Sox, I find it tough to take. I wish he'd just have retired.
Mike
As a non-Braves fan, I think it's hilarious that Smoltz signed with the Red Sox. Cut him some slack, he wants to win and that isn't gonna happen in Atlanta.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
The northeast is a nice place to live Kylie. Other than the winter, the seasons here are great.
ESPNRadio.com (1:20 PM)
Aww, the Love Connection is back in the chat!
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
I'm happily married with two kids. Not looking for trouble so please don't start any!
ESPNRadio.com (1:21 PM)
All in good fun, my friend. Looking forward to 'The Office' tonight?
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
Kylie is holding out for SVP
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Absolutely! How did you know I was a fan or did you just guess based upon my location?
ESPNRadio.com (1:24 PM)
Location guess. Plus, had Mr. Smoltz signed with the Yankees maybe he would have made a few rehab starts in your neck of the woods at AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Kylie (Austin)
Hahaha I was hoping someone would do a Scranton joke. :)
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
I don't actually live in Scranton. I live in a neighboring town but more people know Scranton plus not using my exact location keeps me out of trouble.
Kylie (Austin)
Haha thanks for reminding me of my failures Lisa. I don't even exist to Mr. Van Peezie...
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
What kind of trouble can you get into on an ESPN chat...
Justin (Richmond, VT0
The only reason why Bradford is not coming out this year is because he doesn't want to take the chance of getting drafted by the Lions. He's hoping they won't stink so much this coming here.
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
I doubt that is true Kylie...he is just acting 'coy'
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
I actually work P/T for the SWB Yankees.
Kylie (Austin)
Haha i don't think thats it, but I'm not heartbroken... Its all gravy.
ESPNRadio.com (1:29 PM)
Love is tricky stuff.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
If you are chatting instead of working, you can get into some trouble.
Kylie (Austin)
So I have tendonitis in just about every joint on my right arm from playing volleyball three nights a week... anyone have any cures besides Advil and Ice??
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
It is also a many splendid thing.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Stop playing volley ball for a while.
Kylie (Austin)
That isn't an option.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
How about some Icy Hot then?
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
SAS is a TO apologist
Kylie (Austin)
Icy/Hot smells holmes... I'll just stick to the drugs and icing... Thanks tho!
Tim (Tabernacle, NJ)
TO is an abject disaster
ESPNRadio.com (1:38 PM)
Just drink your pain away. That's what I did after I hurt my shoulder while skiing a few weeks ago.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
They do have other sports creams that have no odor.
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
Go Ravens...
Kylie (Austin)
SAS is really excited about the Cowboys Drama... Wow...
Pete, Sykeville MD
Go Eagles and Steelers the Keystone Klash
George (Hartford)
Scott, are you doing the show by yourself? Just jumping back and forth between mics using your Steven A. voice on side and SVP voice on the other.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Promoting alcoholism? That's not very Disney-like.
ESPNRadio.com (1:41 PM)
I'm not promoting it. I'm just saying it made the rest of that day a lot easier and less painful. Granted, I just sat inside and watched football. I didn't really need any sort of coordination.
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
I agree with ESPNRadio - alcohol cures all
Jose (Las Vegas)
GO CARDINALS!!!!!
Tim (Tabernacle, NJ)
Ravens are tough...I just hope the week 2 bye catches up with them.
Kylie (Austin)
But it is really hard to play volleyball drunk... I tried that a few weeks ago, and it was Ugly. A bottle of red wine and 2 hefeweisens isn't the same as Gatorade.
I-Like-Iowa-Teams (Iowa)
So which franchise has more to prove? Arizona, haven't been to a superbowl since 1947, or Eagles, been to a billion championship games but never won a superbowl...
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
Someone is a litle grumpy today...and it is not me or ESPNRadio or Kylie...hhmmmm
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
I'm rooting for a Cards-Ravens Super Bowl. I may live in PA but I'm not a fan of the pro teams aside from the Penguins.
I-Like-Iowa-Teams (Iowa)
Who do the Lions take with their top pick?
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Wallyball is more fun than volleyball though Kylie.
Kylie (Austin)
A friend of mine plays that... I'll have to check it out sometime.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
I'm not grumpy.
ESPNRadio.com (1:46 PM)
I hope everyone here listened to Lil Wayne on the NBA Today podcast as advised last week.
I-Like-Iowa-Teams (Iowa)
I'd rather kill myself
ESPNRadio.com (1:48 PM)
I hope that was an exaggeration.
I-Like-Iowa-Teams (Iowa)
That was a little harsh... I'm not a Lil-Wayne fan, lets just leave it that that.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Sorry not into the NBA since Ewing left the Knicks. The season is too long and the same teams are good every year. Maybe if fewer teams made the playoffs and LeBron was a Knick I'd follow it more.
Kylie (Austin)
I think we need to hear a little Common today. He makes me smile.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
I played Wally Ball way back in college when it was a new thing. Captained my team to the league finals where we pulled an Eagles and got beaten.
Tim (Tabernacle, NJ)
Shane Falco!!!
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Hockey is actually more interesting than the NBA. You can't beat a good hockey playoff game.
Tim (Tabernacle, NJ)
Are the Ravens still calling Flacco, Shane Falco??
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
The big thing in Baltimore is now "wacko for flacco"
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
So ESPNRadio.com, are you attending ESPN the Weekend?
ESPNRadio.com (1:52 PM)
I am not. I have to work. But all of you out there who are able to attend are encouraged to do so.
clark - los angeles
i am not out sledding, i am headed to the beach. it is 72 here already. woohoooo!
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
Is this the same webmistress from Colin's show
ESPNRadio.com (1:54 PM)
Haha. No, the web mistress from Colin's show is currently at her cubicle.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Move ESPN the Weekend to after school ends and I'm there. Can't take the kids out of school to go. Have to keep their priorities straight. We go to WDW in July.
Steiny - NYC
please tell Amanda I say hello.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Speaking of Colin's show, how can Amanda work with a guy who hates Penn State so much? He must drive here crazy.
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
I think that ESPN the Weekend would be fun..we are taking the boys there this May...that is all my oldest talks about now...he will close to 4 this visit...
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
Different Amanda
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Lisa: My wife and I have done a nine page pamphlet on how to visit WDW. We've been there 13 times since our 1st trip on our honeymoon.
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
I have some Heavy D on my IPOD...great music for my workouts
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
Johnny - you sound like my folks - they love Disney - now my husband and I are all about Vegas - heading back this summer - can't wait...
ESPNRadio.com (2:01 PM)
Alright, folks. It's been fun, but it's time for everyone to pretend to get back to work. We've got a hockey podcast to record soon, anyhow. We'll see you next week. Stay classy.
