Ryan (Milwaukee)
BJ Upton or Matt Kemp for my final keeper. I'm keeping Utley as well so I'm afraid to keep Upton due to injury concerns. Going into the year down 2 keepers would be huge disadvantage. Thoughts?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:03 PM)
Good Afternoon to everyone! Glad to be here...I'll get to as many questions as possible over the next hour! To your question, Ryan, I would actually hold Kemp here. You're going to get more power out of Kemp and with Upton losing his 2B eligibility, his value declines some here.
Matt (SC)
Hey Dave, love the work!! Who do you like better for keepers this year in an auction league: Furcal ($13), Cliff Lee ($13), Markakis ($23), or KROD ($23)? Thanks!
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:05 PM)
Thanks, Matt. I like them in this order considering keeper value: Lee, Markakis, Furcal and KRod last. Lee at $13 is a fantastic price. I love Markakis enough to want him for ten more bucks over Furcal.
Jason (Atlanta)
Would you keep Duchsherer at $1 or throw him back in the auction? Same question with Joe Saunders.
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:06 PM)
For a buck? Both are good keepers for a buck...Duchs and Saunders will more than earn that.
Jason (St Louis)
Keeper Question!!! I am in a 16 team league with 5 keepers. Which 5 would you keep out of Sabathia, Oswalt, McCann, Brian Roberts, Carlos Lee, Garett Atkins, Liranio, Wainwright?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:09 PM)
Nice group there. I would hold Sabathia, Carlos Lee, Roberts, Atkins and McCann. I'm all about the offense normally. Sabathia is too good to pass up. Liriano is very tempting, but in a 16-team I'd rather lock up the good 3B in Atkins.
Alan (NY, NY)
Dave, when will ESPN's Fantasy Baseball draft kit and rankings be available?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:10 PM)
No exact timetable yet, but we usually debut early February.
John (NY)
Hey Answer Guy: Any word on how long Utley will be out?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:12 PM)
Utley stated that he expects to be ready by the start of the season, but I believe he'll need a few more weeks after that. I would expect a mid-April return.
Luke (nc)
Would you keep Holliday for 2 years or Peavy or Quinten for 5?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:13 PM)
I would hold Quentin for 5 years if I could only choose one option. You have to lock up that bat long term.
Jim (erie, pa)
In our keeper league you must keep on pitcher. 4 SP and 3 RP each week. Lackey, Liriano, or Papelbon?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:17 PM)
Tough call, but if you're a gambling man like me, go with Liriano. Lackey is a great pitcher, so is Paps, but if this is roto I want to keep a starting pitcher here. Liriano will be dominant this season if that arm of his holds up, and it should.
JD (Miami)
Pitching question. I'm in a 5x5 AL-only league and plan to keep halladay, liriano, Garza, Greinke, Soria and David Price. I was thinking of trading Greinke for a higher draft pick and Brandon Morrow. Do you approve?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:19 PM)
First off, that's an incredible pitching staff in an AL-only league. You should feel very confident heading into the start of this season. As far as moving Greinke for Morrow and a higher draft pick, it would depend on how high the pick is and how many keepers your team can hold. It looks good on the surface though, getting Morrow and his arm and the draft pick.
Coop (Orlando)
Is Carl Crawford still the same Carl Crawford he was a couple years ago when people took him in the 1st round? Where should I try and target him?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:22 PM)
I expect Crawford to bounce back in a big way. I mean, he's not going to power out 25 HRs or anything like that, but he'll bring his numbers up for sure..and he's still a major SB beast. I would rank Crawford as a second rounder right now, but he could slip to the third round in some leagues.
Holtz (Indiana)
Yo, Answer Guy! Basketball question. Would you trade Pierce for Billups in a H2H 9 cat league? I still have Nash and Calderon at PG, but could move one of them if I do this.
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:24 PM)
That's a fair trade. I still like Pierce better, so unless you already have another deal in the works that moves Carlderon or Nash for a big name in return, I'd pass and hang onto Pierce.
Jarpee (New York)
With the move to the Yankees, is AJ Brunett now a top 10 SP?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:25 PM)
No way. I like Burnett more this year in NY obviously, but he's not top-10.
Billy (NYC)
Can you throw out a few quick position rankings for the Superbowl? We redraft every week, who are your top SB performers?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:28 PM)
Sure, be happy to. All in the order listed for the Super Bowl. QB- Warner, Big Ben, Leftwich, Leinart. RB-Parker, Edge, Hightower, M. Moore WR-Fitz, Ward (he'll play and make a difference), Holmes, Boldin, Breaston TE-Miller, Pope D-PITT, ARI K-Reed, Rackers
Kevin (Ohio)
Does Troy Tulo bounce back this year and go back to his 25/90 form of 07? Where are you targeting him in the draft? In Keeper league drafts?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:30 PM)
Yes, Tulo bounces back in a big way. I'm going to target him around the 5th/6th rounds, but I'd reach for him earlier than that if necessary. He's still a top-end SS.
Dan (Nutley, NJ)
Deep NBA Roto - Courtney Lee or Daequan Cook? Thanks.
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:32 PM)
RIght now I like Lee with the minutes he's getting and what he's been doing with the minutes. Liking the steals in a big way.
Adam (New Orleans, LA)
Dave, it seems as though Anquan may have worn out his welcome in 'Zona. Any thoughts as to where he may end up next season? And is he still a keeper quality WR outside of that offense?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:36 PM)
Boldin is absolutely still a keeper option, even outside of ARI. I mean, the guy has obvious talent, no denying that. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if ARI keeps him in town though, giving him a new contract. I keep envisioning a Jerry McGuire moment there! If he doesn't stay in ARI, I could see Al Davis going after him in Oakland. He could end up in a lot of places though. Lots of teams could use a WR like Boldin. I could see Boldin in Seattle, SF, Tampa Bay..
Super Dave (LA)
for last 2 keeper spots, e santana ($7), burnett ($13) or price ($7)?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:37 PM)
I would give the spots to Price and Santana, save the money. Burnett won't be that good in NY, not good enough to pass up Santana or Price.
Ian Samsel Mason,MI
who is the hottest player too get?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:38 PM)
Not too sure where you're going with this one, so I think I'll avoid.
Shane (Edison, NJ)
To start a keeper franchise, which do you like better: Cubs- Lee, Soriano, Aramis, Soto, Bradley, CZam, Dempster, Harden -OR- Rays- Longoria, Pena, Upton, Burrell, Crawford, Shields, Kazmir, Price?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:41 PM)
Wow...cool question. And, a tough one at that. Very difficult to choose between the two teams, but I would want to go with the youth in Tampa Bay...thinking long-term here. Assuming, you can lock up the same players from the same team for many years to come.
Toni (UK)
Davey my boy, will Stephen Drew be overrated come draft time?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:44 PM)
No, I don't think so at all. In fact, I think Drew can only get better this year. I think he's just starting to come into his own. This will be his third full season in the league in 2009 and he's still very young.
Ogre (Adams College)
Fantasy sports are for NERDS!
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:44 PM)
Nerds unite!
Jon (MI)
You sure have some weird takes on fantasy baseball... You rather have Kemp over Upton? Tulo in the 5th? Crawford in the top 24? Those are all such deviations from early rankings and ADPs.
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:46 PM)
That's because I don't necessarily base my decisions on what a player did last year, but what I think he'll do THIS year. And, many other reasons for my decisions, which are well researched.
ron (philly)
Miguel Cabrera - 1st round pick? Or a steal in the 2nd? Am I alone in thinking he's a much better option than Tex, Berkman or any other 1B taken after Pujols?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:48 PM)
Miggy is an early second rounder right now for me. I do like Miggy better than Tex or Berkman though, but it's very close.
Saul (Chicago, IL)
Fantasy basketball - Which side do you like? Carmelo Anthony and Deron Williams or Mike Bibby and Paul Pierce?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:50 PM)
When healthy, I'd want the Melo/Deron side of things. So, if you're getting that side of things, you have to wait a few more weeks before Melo gets himself ready to play.
Tyler (Vermont)
Speaking of Drew's, Will JD continue to disapoint both fantasy owners and Sox fans? He had that huge month last year, but the rest of the time he was just alright.
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:53 PM)
Is there really another answer here than "YES". I've never been a JD Drew guy, and have probably been extremely unfair to him in the past, but there is no way that he ever lives up to expectations, unless your expectations on him are 400 AB, 15-20 HR, 60-70 RBI, 70-80 R
Tom (Chicago)
would you trade Carlos Quentin and Alexei Ramirez for Adrian Gonzalez in a keeper league?
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:54 PM)
No, Tom, I wouldn't. That would not be a good trade for you at all...keep Quentin and Alexei. AGonz is a great player, but not worth Quentin and Alexei.
Chris (Baltimore)

Ari (Miami)
Maybe Tom was the one getting QUentin & Alexei, wanted to know if it was ridiculous of him to even approach the other guy with that deal or if hed need to add a piece . . .
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (3:58 PM)
True, very true. But, I think he knows what side I like.
Will (The OC)
Ten-team, crazy league where I get one (yes one) keeper hitter. Teixiera, Hamilton, Rollins, or Holliday? All are about the same rankings-wise.
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (4:00 PM)
Oooo...very tough, but I lean towards Rollins here. He's still a top-end SS even with last year. And, you have to figure that Reyes, HanRam, etc will be kept too. You'll be able to get the sluggers you need much easier in the draft than a top end SS.
Answer Guys' Dave Hunter (4:01 PM)
Okay, Guys and Gals...that's it for me. Sorry I couldn't get to everyone's questions...have a great day/night and you can catch me in via the Answer Guys service.
