Tim Graham (2:52 PM)
I'm here a little early, so why not get started. I don't think I'm breaking any laws ...
Bryan (conway ark) [via mobile]
Tim, if brady isnt ready for the start of the 09 season who is your pick to win the afc east?
Tim Graham (2:54 PM)
Great question, Bryan. So much will happen between now and the start of the season, with the most important time coming in free agency. We're not sure who the Dolphins -- or any other team -- are going to lose from their roster. But I like the way the Dolphins are building and think it could come down to the Patriots and Dolphins. But that's soooooooooo far away.
scott tn [via mobile]
who/going,to,win,the.suplebol
Tim Graham (2:56 PM)
Now here's a question with fewer variables, although picking games isn't my favorite thing to do. I like the Steelers because they've been consistently good all season. I saw a lot of the Cardinals this year because they played all four AFC East teams. The Cardinals were great twice and brutal twice. I have no idea what they'll give on Super Sunday. With the Steelers, I know I can count on them showing up.
Donte(Philadelphia Pa) [via mobile]
What do you think will be the key to wining the Super Bowl.Steelrs defense or Cardinals offense?
Tim Graham (2:57 PM)
It will come down to the Steelers' defense giving the Cardinals too much to handle.
Alex, virginia [via mobile]
What do you think the Cowboys need to do to get back as a elite team like tbey were two seasons ago? I think they are going into the right direction so far by releasing Adam Jones.
Tim Graham (2:58 PM)
Based on what's coming out of the Metroplex these days, it sounds like they need stricter organizational control and fewer front office people who want to be the players' friends.
Josue miami fl [via mobile]
What position does miami need to get in the 2009 nfl draft?
Tim Graham (2:59 PM)
Not necessarily in this order: receiver, center, linebacker
Steiny (NYC)
Do you think Cassel wants to stay with the Patriots?
Tim Graham (3:00 PM)
If he can be the starter. Otherwise, I think he's ready to call a team his own.
Tim Graham (3:01 PM)
I'm I the only one out there who hates it when tennis and golf majors throw off your daily TV routine?
Greg (NYC)
Do you think the Patriots will get a first and a third round pick for Cassell if he's traded?
Tim Graham (3:01 PM)
The front-office types I've spoke to predict that's at least the type of trade it will take, and that the first-rounder needs to be a high one.
Steiny (NYC)
Paul Posluszny was named this Bills Defensive MVP. Do you agree with that decision?
Tim Graham (3:02 PM)
I thought it should have been Kawika Mitchell.
Anquan Boldin (mad)
This is ridiculous, Tim. I'm not getting my comments posted as much as I should, so I'm outta here
Tim Graham (3:03 PM)
Don't call me that! Go ahead!
spartanburg sc [via mobile]
What is the main addition needed by the atlanta falcons that will enable them 2 build off their success and wat if any will they pick up via free agency
Tim Graham (3:04 PM)
I'd love to have a smart response for you, but I cover the AFC East. I have enough trouble gathering info on the four teams on my beat.
chris,springdale,arkansas [via mobile]
can the cardinals offensive line hold up against the steelers nasty defense. or will the crack under pressure?
Tim Graham (3:05 PM)
My freshest in-person memories of the Cardinals are from five weeks ago in Foxborough. It wasn't pretty.
Erik, Beckley WV
Do you think that since the Super Bowl is being played on the east coast it will be a factor or have the Cardinals learned how to win in the east?
Tim Graham (3:06 PM)
It won't be as much of a factor as it was int he regular season because the Cardinals will be in Tampa several days before the game as opposed to the day before.
Dave Ft.Myers Fl [via mobile]
I am a big Dolphin fan, do you think they will be able to sweep the afc?
Tim Graham (3:06 PM)
You need to get out of the sun.
Sam (NY,NY)
What do you think the Jets will do in the draft?
Tim Graham (3:07 PM)
Hard to say because this is Rex Ryan's first draft. It will be interesting to learn how much say he will have.
Dick Jauron(Buffalo, NY) [via mobile]
I know Ralphie has just given me another year but do you think I should be worried about Cowher coming to take my job?
Tim Graham (3:08 PM)
You should be worried about someone taking it, but not Bill Cowher. The Bills wouldn't pay what he's looking for.
jimmy(nc)
tim, what do you make of the coaching situation in carolina?
Tim Graham (3:09 PM)
I find it fascinating, and I can understand why the assistants were upset. With all of the coaching changes going on and staffs being rebuilt, to be left hanging without a contract offer while jobs were being filled around the league.
Tom (Chicago) [via mobile]
Tim,who wins the PRO Bowl this year?
Tim Graham (3:09 PM)
I like the North.
Tim Graham (3:10 PM)
As I rummage through my bag, is there any worse snack infraction than a pretzel with no salt on it?
Shane (Phx, AZ)
Which team do you see as having the best chance next year at being this years Cardinals? Off the top of my head Id say Green Bay and Buffalo have at least a chance to turn around this year's season into a surprise season next year.
Tim Graham (3:11 PM)
Let's see, the best chance to be just good enough to win your division (but nobody else's) and then get hot in the playoffs ... Denver Broncos.
Dick Jauron(Buffalo, NY) [via mobile]
Sorry last question...if I do get fired do you think I can do these chats with you? I'm very entertaining! Ever seen my press conferences?
Tim Graham (3:11 PM)
Seen them? I've been at them.
Michael Vick (PRISON)
Man, I wanna ball again. Any of your teams take me?
Tim Graham (3:13 PM)
Patriots? No. ... Jets? No. ... Dolphins? Wildcat possibilities. ... Bills? Hmmmmm.
doug (madison, wi)
with carson palmer, ben roethlisberger, and now the emergence of joe flacco and brady quinn, will the afc north become known as the QB division in years to come?
Tim Graham (3:14 PM)
That's a lot of young QB talent in one division. That could be a doozy, but not for another year or two. Flacco and Quinn still have a lot of developing to do.
Ed Hochuli (Chat Ref)
That's illegal procedure against Dick Jauron, lying about being entertaining, 5 yard penalty and it remains 2nd down.
Tim Graham (3:14 PM)
Ed has spoken.
Steiny (NYC)
Mel Kiper Jr. has the Jets taking Percy Harvin. Do you agree with Mel on this one?
Tim Graham (3:15 PM)
I agree that he could land there, but I think Percy Harvin is a risky pick for No. 17. Even when he has played, he was hurt. There were many games where he was a game-time decision.
Tim (Austin) [via mobile]
Hey there Tim,who do you think was the most overrated player in the NFL this year?and who do you think was the most underrated?
Tim Graham (3:17 PM)
Underrated was Greg Camarillo. Overrated ... let's open the floor for suggestions. Brett Favre is coming to mind because he made the Pro Bowl, but I think a more accurate rep was hung on him by the end of the year.
Rob(Orlando, Fl) [via mobile]
Where does Super Tecmo Bowl rank on your list of footballing video games?
Tim Graham (3:17 PM)
No. 1
Phil (Charlotte, NC)
Like all teams, Miami has some decisions to make regarding their own UFA's. Who do you see walking? Crowder, Carey, Goodman, Bell?
Tim Graham (3:18 PM)
This is a gut feeling, but I think Crowder is gone. The other three probably are back.
Steiny (NYC)
Do you think Jim Leonhard could be on the Jets Radar?
Tim Graham (3:19 PM)
You can count on it.
alex: flossmoor, illinois [via mobile]
How how scoring will the super bowl be? I'm thing the score will be around 24-21. Also, any idea on what the bears might do with there 1st round draft pick?
Tim Graham (3:20 PM)
My prediction for ESPN.com was Steelers, 27-17. There was no scientific reasoning there. Not sure about the Bears pick. Sometimes I pick up info from some teams outside the AFC East, but the Bears aren't one of those.
Chris (Tampa)
Thoughts about Jim Bates as the new DC for the Bucs? Also, who do you think they are leaning towards for OC?
Tim Graham (3:22 PM)
I can speak on Bates because I'm familiar with him. I think he's a tremendous hire and a veteran figure on a young coach's staff. As for the offensive coordinator, I don't have any hot tips for you.
Tony Romo
I have to be in the top 5 overrated list. How else could I end up with Jessica?
Tim Graham (3:22 PM)
That's a good candidate.
Brett. Bashore [via mobile]
why are the bills so bad this past year
Tim Graham (3:25 PM)
Ralph Wilson was right after the game in Toronto, where he said the Bills didn't have the talent. Problem is, he refuses to pay for quality depth. Depth hurts when it comes to injuries and on a daily basis in practice. When you have players who know they're the starters and can't possibly be beaten out for reps, then where's the daily competition?
Rick (D.C.)
Who are some key free agents out there that fit the Parcell's mold? It's not likely that he'll break the bank on an individual player like Haynesworth or the Oakland CB. How about Bart Scott?
Tim Graham (3:27 PM)
The Dolphins just sunk a lot of money into outside linebacker with Cameron Wake, and they gave that exorbitant contract to Charlie Anderson. So I don't think they go after Bart Scott. They also like Jason Ferguson, so they wouldn't spend money on Albert Haynesworth.
Nick (Bills, NY) :
tim your chat is hard to locate on the site, are you trying to keep me out?
Tim Graham (3:28 PM)
I'm none too pleased that you found me.
Jason (Bmore)
Are you ready to accept that LeBeau knowing Whisenhunt's offensive style and Whisenhunt knowing LeBeau's combined with his knowledge of the Steelers personnel is a wash?
Tim Graham (3:29 PM)
Given the fact I'd never once in my life even considered the thought you mentioned, I have no idea why you would assume I was fighting the notion.
Bobby (Pitt)
Going to Vegas for Superbowl weekend..Which bets should I put my money on?
Tim Graham (3:30 PM)
Bet on as many props as you can, lay the tickets out in front of you, kick back and root for your choices. When I lived in Las Vegas, that was my Super Sunday drill.
Ben Illinois
Is the steeler OL bad or did they just play a bunch of good D fronts?
Tim Graham (3:30 PM)
I wouldn't call them bad, but they were the major weakness.
Bill, Greensboro, NC
Miami has Ronnie Brown locked up for 2 more years. We know how the "Trifecta" values RB's. Any chance we see a RB selected on the first day by Miami to groom and allow Brown to be traded before the 2010 season?
Tim Graham (3:33 PM)
First day? Maybe. The Dolphins drafted two running backs on the second day last year and they didn't make the team. And the Trifecta is one of the dumbest nicknames I've ever heard.
Tim Tebow
This just in: I've cured cancer, fixed the economy and restored Telly Savalas to a full mane of hair.
Tim Graham (3:35 PM)
Did you let Telly out of his coffin before you gave him hair, or were you just being cruel to his corpse?
Rick (D.C.):
Jason Ferguson is also 34 years old! You can't tell me they like that!
Tim Graham (3:36 PM)
The Dolphins specifically went after Ferguson and traded for him to anchor their 3-4. He has another year left on his contract. Furthermore, Ferguson and Parcells have the same agent.
Jeff,PA
this is a QA not a posting board. Where does Byron end up after the SB?
Tim Graham (3:36 PM)
Ed?
Marcel, Los Angeles, CA [via mobile]
Do you have any inside information on who will be the Buccaneers next OC?
Tim Graham (3:37 PM)
I answered that one a while ago. I do not have any inside info on that one. Sorry.
SP (Buffalo, New York)
Why do coaches use timeouts to save themselves from delay of game penalties, especially early in the half? In most cases isn't having all your timeouts more valuable than losing five yards?
Tim Graham (3:40 PM)
I've wondered that myself. I think many times calling a timeout is an instinctual panic move.
Ed Hochuli (Chat Ref)
We have a personal foul, unsportsmanlike conduct against Jeff,PA, trying to run the chat when he's not the chat host, 15 yards and repeat 2nd down
Jack (Houston)
tell your chowder loving friends that next year the texans are going to lay a smacking on tommy brady and that cheating coach of theres. MARIOS COMING TOMMY might not want to heal up too quickly.
Tim Graham (3:41 PM)
I hate chowder. But I'll send a mass e-mail out to all my friends to see if they do, and if they answer "yes," I'll tell them what you said.
Jon, E. Lansing, MI
The lions can only go up hill from here right?
Tim Graham (3:42 PM)
Oh, I think it's been nothing but uphill for a long time. Sisyphus thinks it's getting ridiculous.
Brian (Michigan)
Someone tell Jack and his execution loving friends that the Texans still have a lot to prove and that Mario cant play all 11 positions Bugs Bunny style.
Tim Graham (3:43 PM)
Let's not exaggerate. Bugs Bunny played only nine.
Ben Dreith (The Best Referee Ever)
Hey Tim. You might not recall this call but I believe it was in the AFC East when Marty Lyons hit Jim Kelly late, Ben Dreith said, "He's giving him the business over there, that's 15 yards and that's a first down." I never laughed so hard in my life and that's why I love the game of football.
Tim Graham (3:44 PM)
Never laughed so hard in your life?
brad in ft myers [via mobile]
do you think brett favre is coming back? I hope so
Tim Graham (3:45 PM)
Rich Cimini of the New York Daily News has a great story on that today (check the AFC East roundup in my blog for a link). He takes a look at the alternatives to Favre and doesn't find much.
Matt
That's awesome, I watched the Dreith clip last night. Here is a youtube link in case anyone doesn't know what we're talking about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eslz06J9hFw
Tim Graham (3:47 PM)
Great clip.
Jeff, PA
Ed that is another blown call from you and Tim you didn't answer. Where does Byron go after the SB?
Tim Graham (3:47 PM)
I don't answer questions from jerkwads.
Steve Chester, NY [via mobile]
what do you think will happen with Boldin in the offseason?
Tim Graham (3:49 PM)
The Cardinals will hold onto because he's so valuable to their offense. That is, unless he and agent Drew Rosenhaus make it so impossible to keep him by becoming a distraction and threatening to tear the team apart from the inside out.
Jeff,PA
HAHA who uses the word jerkwad-- Is it because you don't know. I should ask my fellow Delta Chi bother Matt Williamson.
Tim Graham (3:52 PM)
Nobody knows where Byron Leftwich will go. He's on a roster right now. It's not Feb. 27 yet. If any team talks to him it's tampering. And the reason you're being a dork is because you're stomping your feet over me not answering your question. And that's annoying, especially in an AFC East chat. That makes you an annoying person.
KC, Dallas [via mobile]
Anyone else getting sick of Jeff?
Steiny (NYC)
If Ray Lewis Leaves Baltimore can you see him ending up as a Jet?
Tim Graham (3:54 PM)
I think that would be the only other place he would go. I get the sense Ray Lewis is loyal. If not the Ravens, then he would consider playing for his old coach.
Tim Graham (3:54 PM)
Actually coaches. The Jets named Ravens linebackers coach Mike Pettine their defensive coordinator yesterday.
Byron Leftwich
I am sick of Jeff.
Brad(NM)
It's funny to know Ralph Wilson doesn't feel he has a talented enough team to go far, yet he made no moves towards trying to acquire Tony Gonzales..probably the biggest piece of the missing Offensive puzzle..a playmaking TE....tell us something we don't know Ralphie!
Tim Graham (3:55 PM)
The Bills made the move to get Gonzalez and extended an offer the Chiefs would have accepted. It was Gonzalez who refused to go to Buffalo. So give the Bills credit for trying.
Greg (Philly)
Hey - With Pendington playing so well last year, what's the word on Henne?
Tim Graham (3:57 PM)
Miami loves Henne, but they're not in a rush to play him. Letting a young QB develop behind the scenes is a nice luxury to have.
Rick (D.C.):
I understand what you are saying about Ferguson... but we know you can only depend on a 34 year old NT for so long. They have to begin looking at some alternatives in the near future. No knock on Ferguson... I love him but this is reality.
Tim Graham (3:58 PM)
You're right, but to spend beau coup bucks on Haynesworth might not be the wisest way to spend when you have so many other holes to fill. The Dolphins can hope to replace Ferguson with emerging youth.
Bill (York, PA)
Speaking of the Bills trying, yet coming up short (again): What's your opinion of Cameron Wake? He didn't cost Miami a whole lot? In my opinion, he's a much better fit in Miami's 3-4 than in Buffalo's whateveryouwanttocallit. Your thoughts?
Tim Graham (4:00 PM)
I'm skeptical of any CFL Paul Bunyan story. I lived in Buffalo long enough and have spent enough time in Canada to know these tall tales pop up every year, but they're usually quarterbacks. That so many NFL teams were in pursuit of Cameron Wake leads me to believe there's something there. One person explained it to me as the team that signed him would be getting an extra first-day draft pick this year.
MIKE
Are you familiar with how at Heinz Field they play Renegade to get the crowd going? Do you think it would be fair to play this video in Tampa since the majority of the tickets have been bought by STEELER fans? I think it would only be fair.
Tim Graham (4:02 PM)
I'm not sure, but I think the NFL's policy at the Super Bowl is to be neutral in every little detail. So you might not hear that song in the stadium. But I'll bet the players will have it on their iPods.
GOOBY 99
Sticking to the Bills J.Hardy rough rookie year with plenty of potential or another draft day faux pas for the bills
Tim Graham (4:04 PM)
Potential, but that doesn't get you very far. I think five years from now it will be known as a bad pick.
Steiny (NYC)
What can you tell us about the new Jets defensive coordinator Mike Pettine?
Tim Graham (4:05 PM)
He has a strange background in that his resume includes a lot of high school experience.
Bobby (Pitt)
Where will you be watching the game from?
Tim Graham (4:06 PM)
I'll be watching from my living room in Coral Springs, Fla., this year. With no AFC East team in the game, I'll get to sit back and enjoy the game.
Paul Bunyan
Cmon Tim, didn't you see my numbers at the combine? 1200 bench press done 47 times, 78 inch vertical, 3.1 in the 40. Why the skepticism?
Tim Graham (4:07 PM)
I can't get past the sight of all those track marks.
Steiny (NYC)
As far as the Jets quarterback situation goes, if Brett Favre does not come back do you think Brett Ratliff will beat out Clemens for the job? I mean Ratliff looked outstanding in the preseason.
Tim Graham (4:09 PM)
From what I saw of Brett Ratliff last year in training camp and the preseason, I thought he was better than Kellen Clemens. If Favre doesn't come back and the Jets open up the competition among Clemens, Ratliff and Ainge, then Ratliff would have a respectable shot. Keep in mind, Rex Ryan just went to the AFC championship game with a rookie from Delaware, so he might not be hung up on pedigree or experience.
Mitch (coral springs, fl) [via mobile]
1. if the pats don't tag cassel, do u think the jets will pursue him? 2. wat will the fins do w/ ernest wilford?
Tim Graham (4:11 PM)
Cassel will be tagged, but for the sake of discussion, if he isn't tagged I'm sure the Jets would be interested. I predict Wilford won't play another game for the Dolphins.
Bill (York, PA)
Speaking of QB situations: What do you think the Bills do for their backup QB next year? Just re-sign Hamdan, or go out a get a vet?
Tim Graham (4:12 PM)
For their No. 2 backup I imagine they'll get a veteran. I don't know if Hamdan can handle that role, especially since the No. 2 in Buffalo sees significant playing time.
Brett (Houston, TX)
Holy moly, there's Steiny again. You really are everywhere, aren't you? What do you do all day, seriously?
Tim Graham (4:13 PM)
You should have seen the questions in my queue before I sat down at my computer. But I must say, every question is a good one. I just can't answer them all and be fair to everybody else. Steiny is gunning for chat MVP.
Tim Graham (4:14 PM)
OK, guys. I need to wrap it up. I appreciate you stopping by. See you next Friday.
Tim Tebow
I'm the chat MVP. I'm the MVP at everything.
Jason Peters
Hey Tim, sorry I'm late to the chat -- my agent said I shouldn't show up unless you paid me $10 million. Anyway, I'd like to nominate myself for most overrated player -- I may not be in the top 5, but they'll vote for me anyway, just wait and see.
