Buzzmaster (8:28 PM)
Wednesday is when the craziness starts to amp up here in Tampa, the site of Super Bowl XLIII. We'll be chatting all day from Radio Row, so don't miss a minute of it! Matt Hasselbeck, Chris Mortensen, Mel Kiper and others! It all starts with me, Buzz, at 10 a.m. ET!
Buzzmaster (9:56 AM)
Let's do this early again, what the heck? Gooooooooooood morning!
Buzzmaster (9:57 AM)
We're live from Radio Row in Tampa, Fla., site of Super Bowl XLIII!
Aaron (K.C.)
I'm thinkin breakfast burrito's will get me thru "hump day", what say you Buzz, surely your not walkin around Tampa with Pop-tarts.
Ari (Miami)
Of course since Hasselbeck will be cutting 15 minutes off of Buzz he'll get it started 15 minutes early . . . right?
Buzzmaster (9:57 AM)
No, but instead, how about we just sit here and chat all day long?
Dave(vt)
Buzz rocks!
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
I had a feeling you'd do it again Buzz. I've been waiting.
Jason (Philly)
Morning Buzz, schools are closed, but Im at work for some reason
Buzzmaster (9:58 AM)
Watch out. Apparently you can be fired for going to work when you're not supposed to. But then again, you can be fired for staying home thinking you're not supposed to go to work.
Efrain (Bayonne NJ)
Ha, caught you!
Joe (Huntsville,AL)
Nice! The warm weather gets Buzz all motivated.
Jack (NB Canada)
How does Inez look?
Buzzmaster (9:58 AM)
Have not stalked...er...seen her yet.
Jason (Philly)
What was the deal with that dude in a dress? NO aztec girls, so you got an aztec dude?
Steve (NJ)
My home-alone bliss has been shattered by winter weather.
David (Boston)
Snowing here...day off from work, hows the weather down there Buzz?
Buzzmaster (9:59 AM)
It was 83 on the drive over this morning.
David Fairborn, OH $
Whats with this overachieving?
Steve (NJ)
Buzz on Facebook. Dogs and cats, living together, mass hysteria!
Joe (Huntsville,AL)
Buzz is showing up early, putting in extra work doing the Facebook page. Warm weather suits you my friend.
Buzzmaster (10:00 AM)
Yeah, that's right! The Facebook page is up and running. What a pain that was. I couldn't link to or join the MB group page unless I had a personal profile page. But all I wanted was one of those fan pages. So I had to make both.
Buzzmaster (10:00 AM)
Not sure what I'm going to do with either, but we'll play along with it as we go.
Jack (Toronto)
Buzz, you're going to get yourself in trouble with this raising expectations business. Time to get back to being slow and lazy.
Buzzmaster (10:00 AM)
It will happen once we're back to the cold in CT.;
Steiny (NYC)
Buzz, it is a great day for chatting. Let's put our differences aside and have a nice day of chatting. Matt is coming at 10:45?
Buzzmaster (10:01 AM)
Jumerms...Matt Hasselbeck will be by at 10:45 to chat. Then Mort at 11.
Aaron (K.C.)
All day chat Buzz? They really are making you earn that trip arent they?
Scott (Indy)
The city is pretty much shut down today, Buzz. We got a foot of snow. Hey, you'll be coming here for a Super Bowl in a couple years, won't you?
tom* (parkville, md)
Slowly starting to realize I need to surrender to this Facebook fad.
David Fairborn, OH $
Are you sure the Azteca girls weren't there yesterday? Wilbon talked about them on PTI saying they were measuring players biceps and everything.
Buzzmaster (10:02 AM)
No, I just said I didn't run into them. I think they were avoiding me after the incident in Miami where I almost ran them over while walking around South Beach.
David Fairborn, OH $
Speaking of cats and dogs, it's snowing cats and dogs here.
Jack (NB Canada)
Buzz, fan of poptarts, free steak dinners, cutinng out pictures and driving into things.
Ryan (San Diego)
Not sure what you are going to do with it? Oh you mean you will eventually get hooked and the friend requests will come and you will be officially sucked in
Nate (Madison)
Buzz made the personal page just so he could talk to Zach after TMB.
David (Boston)
I showed up early for work once
Nate (Madison)
Steve, EXCELLENT Ghostbusters line
Clinton (Indianapolis)
9 inches of snow and still counting here, and I'm at work. Crap.
Robert (Raleigh NC)
Buzz - Lots of discussion on the facebook page about your joining up. Confirm / Deny that the "ESPN Buzzmaster" who has created a profile is infact you.
Buzzmaster (10:04 AM)
I just said that I joined Facebook. I have the profile page and the fan page. Not sure what I'm going to do with either. Though, I think I'll probably update the fan page more then the other one. We'll be trying to post some pics from Tampa later today. We'll see how that goes.
Old Man
When I was young we walked five miles to school in eight feet of snow, uphill, both ways...and we liked it!
Nate (Madison)
Buzz, Facebook is like an addictive drug. First couple times you go on, it'll just be a recreational thing, then next thing you know you'll be on there all hours of the day, requesting friends, loading pictures, etc.
Dave (Tampa)
Buzz at Media Day = Mayne in China
Buzzmaster (10:04 AM)
That's a fair comparison.
Jack (NB Canada)
Take lots of Inez pics!
Rich (Douglas AK)
I sleep in just a little and Buzz has already run three miles and finished a steak omlet. I'm slacking.
Stephen (Knox City, TX)
never surrender to a fad.. :)
BJ (Carmel, NY)
You might officially be a Dlist Pop Culture Phenemenon..
Tom (West Bloomfield, MI)
Buzz can't see the TV Azteca girls. The paper that the restrainer order is printed on is too thick.
Christian (High Point, NC)
Fan page makes way more sense than personal page. I'd just leave the personal page empty/ignore it and concentrate on the fan page.
Nate (Madison)
I like listening to people, other then myself, complain about snow.
Efrain (Bayonne NJ)
Never surrender to using emoticons
Joe (Huntsville,AL)
Gentleman's clubs raising cover charge=Buzz sitting in his hotel at night on Facebook
Buzzmaster (10:06 AM)
You will find out when you see that update times.
Buzzmaster (10:06 AM)
Radio Row is a lot busier then yesterday. When I came back from Media Day, it was dead around here.
Buzzmaster (10:07 AM)
I saw Matt Cassel making the rounds when I walked in. Not sure how long he's staying around, but we might try to grab him.
BJ (Carmel, NY)
Wait till Lady Buzz finds out...your done, Pal.
Tom (West Bloomfield, MI)
Yeah, "never surrender to a fad," says the guy who uses an emoticon.
Lady Buzz
That's ok, Buzzy. I have Matt Damon to keep me warm while you are out at night.
Jason (Philly)
I stopped using Facebook the day my Grandma got a page
Dave(vt)
Maybe ESPN will pay for the cover charge if you do a chat from one of these clubs Buzz.
Joe (Huntsville,AL)
Any free grub today Buzz?
Buzzmaster (10:08 AM)
Not that I passsed on the way in, but I will look more seriously for some later.
Tom (West Bloomfield, MI)
Apparently, Jason hates his grandmother.
Jack (Toronto)
I see drunken Facebooking in Buzz's future.
David (Boston)
Matt Cassel is just there to remind the Cardinals how he smoked them by 40 like 5 weeks ago
Buzzmaster (10:10 AM)
Probably. Though the Cards could then taunt him with the fact they're in the Super Bowl.
Godish (Chicago)
Buzz, are you wearing eye black?
Matt (East Hartford via Albany)
So, what was on the menu last night?
Buzzmaster (10:11 AM)
Jack Willie's Tiki Bar and Restaurant, which apparently is owned by David Cone and some no name exec with the Yankees. We'll have pictures on the FB page at some point.
Ryan (San Diego)
Cassel was on the radio here like 20 minutes ago...I wanted to throw up putting a Patriot player on the air in sd
Buzzmaster (10:11 AM)
Wow...I don't know who that was, but she was darn purty.
Tim Tebow (Tampa)
Buzz, you know you need to put Bible verses or something inspirational on that eye black.
Scott (Indy)
Is the Facebook page authorized Buzz? Or is this an under the radar situation?
Buzzmaster (10:12 AM)
tom* (parkville, md)
Mmmm...Smoked Cardinal....
Buzzmaster (10:13 AM)
I love Radio Row. There are dozens of people that are here that I have no idea who they are.
Col Jessup
You're damn right I ordered Buzz to put up a Facebook page!
NO Name exec with Yankees (Tampa)
There goes your free-meal coupon...
Efrain (Bayonne NJ)
Cassel is all over the place...I listened to him on a Florida station
Rich (Douglas AK)
Could you please describe the sun and how it feels?
Oil Man (Bristol)
hey buzz, your old buddy here, how are you doin? love those push button start cars and the gas they use. have fun this week. see you at the pump.
Buzzmaster (10:13 AM)
I'm driving a spaceship every day, I tell you. I don't even need a key.
Hoppy (Luck, WI)
what up buzz. no meetings today, great to be back. you see the tv azteca girls yesterday?
Clinton (Indianapolis)
Then change the station, Ryan. Jeez, lighten up, Francis.
The Dish (Elgin, IL)
Buzz, I want to come and chat, but only if I can promote/endorse my product/service during Super Bowl week
Buzzmaster (10:14 AM)
You do what you got to do.
BJ (Carmel, NY)
Thats hysterical...Im sure they must be thinking the same thing about you Buzz
Stars and Celebrities (Tampa)
There is a guy at the ESPN table...we have no idea who he is.
Pete (NC) [via laptop]
I can't do it. I just can't do this "Morning Buzz" live from Tampa thing. It's not natural.
Scott (Brewtown)
That's okay Buzz. They don't know who you are either.
Efrain (Bayonne NJ)
Does your rental car have a jet engine? that would be cool
Dave (Pittsburgh)
So are the Steelers fans representing as well as I hear down in Tampa? What's the ratio of Steelers to Cardinals fans?
Buzzmaster (10:15 AM)
The fans usually don't start to show up until Wednesday of Super Bowl week. So we'll see later today.
Gumby (Radio Row)
I'm Gumby damnit.
Mark(HOF City )
I have decided to dump cable and go back to dish! I know, I know. But dont try talking me out of it. My mind is made up.
Tom (West Bloomfield, MI)
Nobody knows Buzz because he's an insider. Meaning he's inside ESPN's basement full time so nobody ever sees him.
Tim (Wisconsin)
The past 42 Super Bowl winners have a combined 12 losses of 20 or more points. Arizona has 4 including one 30+ point loss and one 40 point loss. What are they doing in Tamba?
JB (TX)
The morning guys here had Shannon Sharpe on, all of a sudden halfway thru the interview he started promoting avocados. Most awkward transition ever.
Buzzmaster (10:17 AM)
I think Leslie Visser just walked by. She looks a lot different in person then TV.
Matt (East Hartford via Albany)
Live, from Tampa, it's the Morning BUZZ!
Azteca Girls
Stay away from that guy at the ESPN table.
Mike (Houston, TX)
You heard it here first, Texans in SB 44
adam (chicago) [via mobile]
Sorry I'm late Buzz... I bet you missed me over the last week... Eh now that I think about it prolyl not :(
Jason (Philly)
T.O. is getting his own reality series, Is this a sign of the apocalypse?
The Dish (Elgin, IL)
Shannon Sharpe was promoting avocados here on Chicago radio too. Gotta love Super Bowl week when celebs will only come on to your radio/internet show if you allow them to promote product
Buzzmaster (10:18 AM)
It's a fine trade off. You get big names for your show. They promote their product, the celeb gets paid. It's a very symbiotic relationship.
Aaron (K.C.)
C'mon guys everyony knows the Buzz, Brady said he cant wait to get there and have our own Buzz autograph his ESPN hat.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Does she look better or worse, Buzz?
Buzzmaster (10:19 AM)
It's not a better or worse thing, it's a "more normal" thing. i.e. not all made up and dressed up. She's a jeans and T-shirt gal.
Vince (Shamwow Factory)
Buzz, when do I get to promote ShamWoW? Oh wait, THESE THINGS SELL THEMSELVES
Buzzmaster (10:20 AM)
Of course. It's German.
JB (TX)
FACT: Lesley Visser is married to Dick Stockton.
tim tebow (FL)
i'm a jorts and t-shirt guy buzz.
Efrain (Bayonne NJ)
Oh, look at me, I can use symbiotic in a sentence
BJ (Carmel, NY)
I respect the hell outta Leslie Visser...
adam (chicago) [via mobile]
Last time we talked you told me you hope I got hit by a semi-truck while reading what you wrote!! Do you remember me now!!
Buzzmaster (10:20 AM)
Did you get hit by a semi-truck yet?
fred (omaha)
Buzz can you meet me at the door? I can't find my pass.
Efrain (Bayonne NJ)
Good...i'm glad she's not a zubaz and tuxedo shirt gal
Chris MO [via mobile]
Alot of ppl here in stl r rootin for the cards. This snow sucks
Scott (Indy)
Am I the only person waiting for TO to get cut while the reality cameras are filming? If he gets cut, I will be watching.
Billy Mays (oxyclean, etc)
Hey buzz, billy mays here! How are you going to give face time to Vince but not me?
Godish (Chicago)
Since the Super Bowl isn't taking place in Philly or New Jersey, is Sal Paloantonio not around in Tampa?
Scott (Indy)
I haven't checked. Did Marbury ever make it yesterday evening? I logged on a couple time up until about 4:15 and he still wasn't there. Did he refuse to check in to the Chat?
Buzzmaster (10:22 AM)
He showed up. He was doing a lot of media stuff yesterday. I think he just got tied up.
Bobby J (Oklahoma)
I'm back!!! Yeehaw! Giddy Up!
Steve (NJ)
Odds on Cards winning the Superbowl in pre-season: 60-1.
Jessica Simpson
Where's the buffett? I'm hungy!
TJ, Vermont [via mobile]
The "via laptop" joke is so two weeks ago.
Steiny (NYC)
I would like to take the opportunity to apologize to three people. First off the chatters. I realize that I send in way too many questions and in return I dona??t get posted and my questions turned into other questions with different names. Secondary I would like to apologize to buzz. I have been rude by clogging your chat and for that I am truly sorry. And 3rd of all I would like to apologize to my peers on the Buzz. You guys are great to chat with and I have been annoying and betrayed you. We all used to be close and I am sorry for everything. Please accept my apology
Buzzmaster (10:23 AM)
The irony of this post is he sent it in several times.
Sean (Philly)
So Adam is 1 of 237 people Buzz has hoped get hit by a semi...so no, he doesn't remember you.
Efrain (Bayonne NJ)
that was funny Buzz...nice
Tom (West Bloomfield, MI)
Apology accepted. That said, once a Steinmerms, always a Steinmerms.
Scott (Brewtown)
Apology accepted Justeinmerms
Nate (Madison)
Why do I have a feeling that apology will just add fuel to the fire?
Jmerms (NYC)
Thats all you have to say?
Buzzmaster (10:27 AM)
Sorry guys.
Buzzmaster (10:28 AM)
Just had some guys stop by to chat about adding some chats to the schedule.
Buzzmaster (10:28 AM)
We have Franco Harris stopping by today at 3:15 and tomorrow we have Calvin Johnson at 3:15.
Scott (Brewtown)
*patiently waiting while Buzz proposes to Inez*
Kram (Snow Day, Maine)
Awesome, a snow day during super bowl week! Now I can enjoy some live Buzz action
jake: (St. Louis)
hy everyone. im new to this whole thing
Lady Buzz (Buzzmansion)
Just had some guys stop by? Do we need to call Momma Buzz again?
Ryan (San Diego)
Chat about chats
Steinmerms Mom (NYC)
Now that you appologized, you can play on your XBox again.
Scott (Indy)
I was just reading the transcript of Marbury's chat. I have to say, he went ahead and answered a lot of difficult questions. Doesn't look like he was someone just on to plug the Starbury line and leave. Good for him.
Tom (West Bloomfield, MI)
That's all we get for an extended pause in the MB, "Sorry guys"? I expect a Steinmerms level apology next time.
Efrain (Bayonne NJ)
Chatting about chatting on this chat, or later chats?
tom* (parkville, md)
Wow, Buzz, if Inez moves in with you, Lady Buzz, Matt, and the fish, won't you need a bigger house?
Hoppy (Luck, WI)
though fred or rgr finally found you buzz. whew
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Nice add ons, Buzz. I'd like to ask Franco Harris about his illegal catch that carried the Steelers into the Super Bowl.
Tom (River North)
Poor Calvin. This is probably the closest he'll ever get to the SB because he plays for the worst franchise in football.
Tom (West Bloomfield, MI)
Calvin Johnson? That's phenomenal. Count me in.
David Fairborn, OH
Ah Megatron. You're kinda golden with the Georgia Tech (kinda) alums this week, with marbury and everything
Lady Buzz (Bristol)
Tell me again why I had to stay home??
Justin (Chicago)
Calvin Johnson? Aren't you supposed to refer to him as "#81 of the football team of Detroit, Michigan"
Tom (West Bloomfield, MI)
As far as nicknames go, Megatron is a great one.
Steve (NJ)
Buzz, you should get a chat with Inez.
Buzzmaster (10:32 AM)
I want to find out what this group of hotties is doing here.
Jack (NB Canada)
I bet Buzz can run faster than Calvin Johnson if they dangle a poptart out in front of him.
Godish (Chicago)
Buzz, Matt Forte is in town. Go find him and book him for his second ESPN chat.
Efrain (Bayonne NJ)
Why would anyone nickname themselves after a evil robot who continually fails to defeat the autobots is beyond me
Efrain (Bayonne NJ)
Hotties? the 20th century called, Buzz, and they'd like a word with you
BJ (Carmel, NY)
He didnt name himself that...Roy Williams gave him the nickname
Jalter (in the basement still)
glad to see this chat on the main page buzz. how did you accomplish pushing amy to the F5?
Chris Hansen (Tampa)
Buzz, we're going to need to have a look at that computer. Why dont' you take a seat over here
Hoppy (Luck, WI)
pop your collar and give the hotties a run buzz.
Matt (Phoenix)
nobody finds it interesting Matt Leinert made it to the Superbowl...
Agent X
You sir are a dork!
Dave(vt)
Sounds like Buzz has started facebook stalking already.
Prince (Pittsburgh)
re: The Immaculate Reception - I never saw the ball hit the ground. It was legal and it was 30 years ago. Get over it.
Buzzmaster (10:36 AM)
We're sitting near the Pittsburgh ESPN Radio affiliate. I think they have Dan Dierdorf on right now.
The Ground (Pittsburgh)
I have the dirt.
Mike(Charlotte)
Any Derek Jeter sightings since he lives in Tampa?
Buzzmaster (10:38 AM)
No but I saw a car this morning with a "Jeter 2" bumper sticker. Does that count?
Dave(vt)
So is Ladybuzz going to have to shovel the driveway while you are gone or do you get it plowed?
Buzzmaster (10:39 AM)
Good question. I didn't ask. I don't have any snow to shovel down here, so I'm good.
Hoppy (Luck, WI)
in honor of matt millen, how bout some onb buzz?
Buzzmaster (10:39 AM)
We can grab a few while we wait for Matt Hasselbeck.
arizona CARDINA.LS FANS TAMPA FLA 33606
comment WERE HERE MORNING BUZZ
Chad (Las Vegas)
They sent Buzz to Tampa! Evidentaly ESPN isn't in a recession. Anyway on one hand I miss wasting an hour a day with you guys but I have been so busy out here that I just don't have time to waste an hour. What has my life come to? By the way George Brett says Hi Buzz, I met him at Encore last week.
Bob (Nj)
No School...Snow...Back to bed and if I can I will get up be as lame as the rest and join you
Morgan (Baltimore)
This is sad - I want to go to bed, but need to stay up until my laundry finishes so I don't end up with a bunch of wrinkled clothes. How sad is my life?
Commissioner Zach Rastall (Marinette, WI)
My teeth are extremely sore after getting braces yesterday. This sucks.
Buzzmaster (10:40 AM)
And that's it...
Greg (Boston)
Queue the matt Damon hiring shovelers jokes now!!
David (Boston)
Since LadyBuzz is stuck in the snow, make sure you bring her back a Tampa T-shirt
Matt Damon
Don't worry Buzz, I made a couple of Treadstone people shovel the driveway at gunpoint
Matt Damon (Buzz's driveway)
Damn the Super Bowl...
Arod (Bushes outside Jeter's place)
That was my car Buzz
Brian (Michigan)
Was A-Fraud following Jeter in the exact same model car with the exact same sticker?
Justin (Ohio)
New to the chat Dave? Mr. Damon will have no problems with the driveway.
Buzzmaster (10:41 AM)
Matt Hasselbeck should be here in about 4 minutes to chat.
Hutch (Htfd.)
I just wanna say, I'll be having a steak and cheese grinder, before Matt Hasselback chimes in.
Zach(Knoxville, tn ) [via mobile]
Hey buzz first time here u enjoying ur stay in Tampa this week
Buzzmaster (10:42 AM)
I have no complaints. Tampa is a great city.
Ryan (San Diego)
I cant wait to hear about his secret play
Hannan (Hershey, PA)
Matt better say something optimistic about next year...this year was a wreck...
Mark(HOF City )
This time of year EVERY city in Florida from midpoint and down is a great city.
Marcus (Indiana)
Have a good day buzz and thanks for chatting.
Nate (Madison)
*We're going to get the ball and score*
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
If Matt is going to announce he's signing with the Vikings, I'm all ears.

David (Boston)
Later all...don't get sunburned Buzz
Barry (Sarasota, FL)
I live south of where Buzzmaster is right now and he is just not telling the truth. It was not 83 this morning. Maybe 65.
Mike(Charlotte)
Menu looks good at Jack Willie's, may have to hit that for Spring training, What did you have Buzz?
Buzzmaster (10:48 AM)
Grilled chicken sandwich. Came reccommended by the barkeep.
Jason (Philly)
We buzzing all day or what?
Buzzmaster (10:49 AM)
Of course.
AJ (Seattle)
Matthew, How is Tampa and how are you feeling? Are you going to be ready for mini camp and more importantly next year?
Matt Hasselbeck (10:51 AM)
I'm feeling great. I'll be ready well before mini camp.
Tony, FL
Personally how frustrated were you to have to battle injuries this season?
Matt Hasselbeck (10:51 AM)
It was tough. Hopefully we got all of them out of the way in 2008.
Justin (Ohio)
Hey Matt, how did you get hooked up with EAS?
Matt Hasselbeck (10:52 AM)
I grew up an EAS fan. So when I got to the NFL and got the chance to work with them it was in part a dream come true. It's a great part of my workout regimen and a great thing for me.
Hannan (Hershey, PA)
What are your thoughts on rumors of free agent WRs? Do you think it would be nice to have another premier target?
Matt Hasselbeck (10:52 AM)
I haven't heard the rumors, but hopefully we can get healthy. That's our No. 1 priority.
Marcus (Indiana)
Matt are you pulling for the Cardinals or Steelers this weekend?
Matt Hasselbeck (10:53 AM)
Cardinals. Got to represent the NFC West.
Dan (Buffalo, NY)
We want the ball and we're gonna win. Do you regret saying that?
Matt Hasselbeck (10:53 AM)
No. Not at all. I regret not audibling to a different play.
Clinton (Indianapolis)
After the season's over, how much time, if any, do you take off?
Matt Hasselbeck (10:54 AM)
Well, usually I take about a month off. But this season, I started right away, because I took enough time off during the season. I'm ready.
Brian (Michigan)
Are you going to miss Mike Holmgren's moustache as much as the rest of us?
Matt Hasselbeck (10:54 AM)
My favorite story is the Brett Favre's Mike Holmgren frozen booger moustache at Lambeau.
Terry (Phoenix)
How frustrating was it to have a season like this one?
Matt Hasselbeck (10:55 AM)
It was really frustrating. Especially since it was coach Holmgren's last year. But his greatness as a coach really came out in his last season. It's tougher task to coach a team that's riddled with injuries. I thought he did a great job of coaching through the adveristy.
Craig (ohio)
Do you think the NFL should go to a seeded playoff system?
Matt Hasselbeck (10:56 AM)
It's a good question. If I had to change one thing, I would say hey, if a West Coast team has to travel to the East Coast for the playoffs, I would say let them be the second game.
adam (chicago) [via mobile]
Including your team their are 11 new coaches this year.. Do you think that this gives a chance to almost any one next year??
Matt Hasselbeck (10:57 AM)
I don't know. I know it's tough each week. Every Sunday you have to bring your best or you could lose. It's pretty even in my mind, in terms of every week you have to bring it.
Steiny (NYC)
What did you learn Tom O'Brien at Boston College?
Matt Hasselbeck (10:57 AM)
I learned a lot about run blocking schemes and pass protection schemes. That's helped me a lot in the NFL.
Matt Hasselbeck (10:58 AM)
Go to EAS.com and you can get a free sample of a Myoplex bar.
Buzzmaster (11:00 AM)
Chris Mortensen is up next!
Buzzmaster (11:12 AM)
Mort is signing in right now!
Buzzmaster (11:17 AM)
We think! Little hectic around here! Hang tight!
Buzzmaster (11:18 AM)
BTW .. Deacon Jones holding court here in the Media Center in his sunglasses and track suit ...
Buzzmaster (11:19 AM)
Mike Tirico and Scott Van Pelt are doing the Pittsburgh ESPN Radio show right now. ESPN Radio 1250 if you want to listen to them.
John NY
Cards dont have a shot in this game, steel city is gonna show them what real defenses do to soft teams!!! ask the chargers!!!
Buzzmaster (11:20 AM)
Mort is coming!
Chris Dayton Ohio [via mobile]
Why do I always here about Arizona 's offense when I hear nothing about what Pittsburgh offense can do to Arizona's defense?
Chris Mortensen (11:25 AM)
I happen to think this is a very critical factor in the game. The Cardinals' defense hasn't totally come together but they have about a half-dozen Pro Bowl-caliber players - on defense! They are playing more as a true team defense but they do have some breakdowns so I believe Big Ben, Willie Parker & Santonio Holmes can get 20-plus points, maybe even in the high 20's. So that's why I'm in the range of a 27-23 game, probably the Steelers. Still haven't made up my mind yet.
Rickey (Chicago)
In your opinion which is the best Super Bowl city?
Chris Mortensen (11:30 AM)
I always favored San Diego but there's some bias there because I'm a Southern California beach boy and, well, it's San Diego. New Orleans creates the most unique big-game atmosphere because it's so compact. Tampa really has grown on me and in some ways surpassed Miami. Arizona's great but maybe more spread out than I prefer.
Jimmy: Nutley, NJ
Mort, please confirm that Donovan McNabb is not going anywhere next year, and that any other NFL analyst's "premonition" that he's leaving is basically a waste of time.
Chris Mortensen (11:32 AM)
I guess the only mystery on this is how confrontational McNabb and the Eagles get on a contract restructuring. For the most part, I see him as an Eagle.
Greg (Springfield, MA)
Mort, what was the aftermath if any of the Anquan Boldin/Todd Haley spat during the NFC Championship?
Chris Mortensen (11:35 AM)
I really believe it's as you're hearing it - it's over. Last drive of the game and your best, competitive players want on the field. Haley and Whisenhunt had a different personnel plan, obviously concerned about Boldin's hamstring. Boldin has proven he can he a team player. His focus is on being even healthier for the big game. Now, I do believe the Cards could listen to trade offers in the off-season because they're very deep at WR but for this game, no problems.
Scott (Austin, Tx)
Mort, I was lucky enough to get tickets to the big game. Can you recommend any pre-Superbowl events I should attend on Friday and Saturday?
Chris Mortensen (11:37 AM)
If I were you, I'd got to the Superbowl.com site and see what they have to offer. Just soak up the atmosphere around the Bayfront/Waterside. And there will be brokers hanging around with tickets to certain events that may not be nearly as high in cost as previous years.
Keith (Phoenix, AZ)
Can you put to rest the talk of "if the Cardinals win, it will be bad for the NFL". Why would any team winning be bad for the NFL? Every team brings intrigue and interest and why does a traditional powerhouse or a "popular team" or a 1st or 2nd seed have to win for it to be good? Seems to me that lower seeded teams have won pretty recently and the NFL is as popular as ever.
Chris Mortensen (11:39 AM)
It's the biggest bunch of baloney I've heard. As you know, the Cards are very talented. Hey, when theyclinched their first division title in, what, 35 years....the players shut it down as if they had accomplished their goal. Whisenhunt got em back on track, forced them into more physical practices, back to the running game and this easily could have been a 10-11-12 win team.
Brennen (Pittsburgh)
With the Pro Bowl moving the the week before the SB next year, will any of the players from the 2 SB teams even participate (and risk an injury)? If not, then why the change?
Chris Mortensen (11:43 AM)
No, Super Bowl players will not play. I'm not in favor of the experiment with this format but that's what it is. i don't think the media will promote the Pro Bowl any more. Roger Goodell feels Pro Bowl is anti climatic the week after the Super Bowl, which is true. But a guy like Peyton Manning - hey, he takes great pride in the game. And few people realize just how competitive and at times fierce the Pro Bowl gets in the 4th quarter. But let's see how it works.
Jermaine (Tucson,AZ)
So sources are saying that Larry Fitzgerald is willing to restructure his contract to make room to resign Anquan Boldin. What do you think his chances are for returning to AZ even though he said he wouldn't resign in the season?
Chris Mortensen (11:47 AM)
It's a bit of a non story. First, the Cardinals have projected salary cap space of $42 to $46 million in 2009 so no restructuring is needed. Boldin is under contract for two more years but he is deserving of a new deal. It may be interesting.
Gary (Phoenix)
What brings you to Tampa?
Chris Mortensen (11:49 AM)
I just had to post this question.
Tom (Pittsburgh, PA)
What do you make of the story about Kurt Warner's agent talking to the Bears?
Chris Mortensen (11:51 AM)
Well, he's based out of Chicago (he agent) and the Bears are not allowed to talk to him. But I would bet your house there's no way Warner would consider Chicago. He knows the benefit of playing in dome/good climate stadiums with great receivers. The Cards value him. I see Kurt as a Cardinal or in retirement.
Corey (Chicago)
Mort, best concert venue in the USA is in St. Pete - Jannus Landing. Open air, general admission - check it out!
Chris Mortensen (11:52 AM)
Passing along some info here.
Matt (Fort Lee, NJ)
Mort, why is it a policy or practice at ESPN that you confirm or "report" a story that already broke or was published via another media outlet, giving the perception that ESPN got the story first?
Chris Mortensen (11:54 AM)
I think this has become a distorted perception. If another news agency breaks a story, we credit them and then we always try to confirm it. But I can also say we have reported many, many stories first and other agencies never acknowledged us. But, the main thing is, the immediacy of the news-breaking industry because of the Internet, we're talking minutes or split seconds in many cases. We have been the most honorable of all these news agencies in the past year. I know that.
Patrick (Auburn,Al)
What in your opinion will it take for things in Dallas to get turned around?
Chris Mortensen (11:56 AM)
Maybe just everybody growing one more year together. I do believe removal of T.O. from the locker room would be addition by subtraction but I'm not around the place every day. I have spoken to enough people, including players, to tell you they have a problem. Team is team. The Cowboys are not a true team.
Cy (Pittsburgh, PA)
If the Steelers win the Super Bowl, does it cement Ben Roethlisberger as a hall of fame quarterback?
Chris Mortensen (11:58 AM)
No, it does not but it certainly puts him on the path. As you know, the Steelers won in spite of Ben in the first Super Bowl win. (I know that case was made against Bob Griese, too, and he made the HOF). I think by the time his career is over, just have a feeling he'll be playing in another one of these and that will be make it more credible. Give it time.
Thomas (Denmark)
Hey Chris, how many tricks do your think Ken Wiesenhunt has in his bag for the Superbowl? and does he have the guts to use them?
Chris Mortensen (12:00 PM)
He definitey has the guts to use them. Look at the Steelers' win over the Seahawks in the Super Bowl -the big play was Antwan Randle El reverse TD pass to Hines Ward. We have seen it with the Cardinals in the playoffs. But it's all about setting it up, sequencing and picking the right moment and having the players to do it with.
Jeff (NYC)
Mort --- why does Chris Berman keep wishing you a Happy Groundhog's day?
Chris Mortensen (12:02 PM)
Well, Boomer went through this stretch after New Years to saying, "Let me be the last to wish you a Happy New year" to different guests and reporters...so I popped a "Let me be the first to wish you a Happy Valentines Day, Boom" to him...now I'm getting the Groundhog's greeting. Men being boys and having fun. Sorry if we annoy you!
jake (nh) [via mobile]
Mort-who is the best espn football analyst you work with
Chris Mortensen (12:06 PM)
I have a lot of respect for many of them. Tom Jackson is my best friend among the group and I love him dearly but I think we have such a deep group of analysts. Trent Dilfer is going to be a star. Some of them very underrrated like Mark Schlereth and Merrill Hoge and I really think Kordell Stewart works hard and could have a bright future. And I wish Steve Young would stop having so many babies because he can be terrific when he draws upon his experiences and intelligence. Jaws, love him...and Ditka is Ditka. Heck, I'm leaving a bunch of guys out.
John (Cinn)
It seems only a year ago Warner was struggling badly - fumbling and throwing many interceptions. How is he playing so well now?
Chris Mortensen (12:08 PM)
From mid-season of 2007, he was the most productive, highest-rated QB, I think. Kurt has had fumbles and the usual theory is that has to do with hand and upper body strength. That's why he wears gloves on both hands.
Kennan (Ohio)
Who's mock drafts do you take more stock in, Kiper's or McShay's?
Chris Mortensen (12:11 PM)
I don't pay a lot of attention to mock drafts right now but fans love him and both guys work dilligently. I've been with Mel a long time and I love his passion, his almost instant-library of information on these guys and courage when he makes a decision. Todd works hard at it. I also pay a lot of attention to other mock drafts as we get closer - Rick Gosselin of the Dallas Morning News is a favorite.
Corey (Chicago)
Leader in the clubhouse for the Cowboys job in 2010? Holmgren, Shanahan, Gruden?
Chris Mortensen (12:11 PM)
I'd say Shanahan, Holmgren and Cowher ahead of Gruden.
Aaron (Illinois)
I have the 49ers winning the West next year. Do you agree with me? The way the team finished the season, and if it had punched in the touchdown in the Arizona game, would have possibly hade the 49ers in the playoffs.. well it would have changed the dynamic of the season, the cardinals would have not clinched that early.
Chris Mortensen (12:12 PM)
I'm concerned about the 49ers change with offensive coordinators again. I like the Cardinals to repeat.
Patrick (Kansas City)
How did you take Shanahan's rebuttal of your breaking story on his possible hiring by the Chiefs?
Chris Mortensen (12:15 PM)
Well, I was only the 2nd reporter on that story. The real story was that Clark Hunt did a lot of work on trying to put a dream team of Pioli and Shanahan together and in the end, Mike didn't want to do it. The mistake of a "deal is near" was put in proper perspective very soon after.
Anthony (NYC)
Mort the Raiders will likely put the Franchise Tag on Nnamdi, yet will they be inclined to trade him this time around?
Chris Mortensen (12:16 PM)
If you are trying to win a championship, you cannot let Nnamdi Asomugha go anywhere. Great player.
Pangie (Flagstaff, AZ)
Where do you think this would rank all time in the history of Super Bowl upsets, if the Cardinals are able to Blow out Pittsburgh?
Chris Mortensen (12:17 PM)
Well, if they "blew 'em out" sure it would rank up there. I would be shocked. We're not getting that many blowouts in Super Bowls lately.
Scott (St Joe, MI)
Do you think Bill Cowher would even coach for Dallas, Dallas doesn't seem like his type of team
Chris Mortensen (12:18 PM)
Did it seem like Parcells' kind of team?
Jmerms (NYC)
Mort, How are you its 9 inches of snow here. Hows the weather?
Chris Mortensen (12:18 PM)
Ah, terrible right now. cloudy skies and only around 70.
Greg (Boston)
What are the odds we see Cassell traded and what can the Pats reasonably expect, my thoughts were a 2nd and a 4th from one of those top 5 drafting teams?
Chris Mortensen (12:20 PM)
I think Kansas City could make a play, obviously because of Pioli and your proposal is not out of line. Funny thing is, I think Tyler Thigpen and Matt Cassel are very similar in ability.
Dominick (Chicago)
Mort - why is it that few people give the Steelers "O" enough credit. They played 9 games this year against the top ten D's excluding themselves of course. Numbers won't look pretty against that schedule (hardest in I think 30 years)... bottom line is they win.
Chris Mortensen (12:22 PM)
Yes, and that's one reason that common sense says you have to take Steelers. They played one of the toughest schedules, answered the bell almost every time and they find a way to win. Tough to pick against them.
Pete (Canada)
Does Vince Young have a future in Tennessee?
Chris Mortensen (12:23 PM)
I am beginning to doubt it but maybe he'll find new life in 2009 or 2010.
Chris Mortensen (12:27 PM)
Well, I have to run now. Thanks....guess I'm leaning to a 27-23 win for Steelers but I am among those who believe Cardinals can win the game. I'm hoping it is a great game....we have a 10 am to 1 pm NFL Sunday Countdown show....Friday night radio...well, all kind of shows. Have fun this weekend and God Bless!
Buzzmaster (12:32 PM)
Mooooooort! Thanks for stopping by!
Buzzmaster (12:33 PM)
So, Domonique Dawes is sitting at the table next to us. Wow. A lot nicer to look at than a gaggle of radio hosts.
Buzzmaster (12:34 PM)
We've got Mel Kiper stopping by to talk about the big game in 30 minutes .. in the meantime we'll try to give you as much dirt as we can about the goings on here!
Chad (Las Vegas)
It's Dominique Dawes Buzz. If you're gonna gawk at least spell her name right.
Buzzmaster (12:36 PM)
Good point.
Buzzmaster (12:37 PM)
If you sense a big shadow hanging over the chat, that would be because Nate Newton is 2 chairs away.
Ethan (Hoboken,NJ)
So is the chat active right now, or should I just wait around a little while for Kiper to come?
Buzzmaster (12:38 PM)
Oh, it's active. But things are a little quite here on ol' Radio Row.
Jordan (Peoria)
Buzz, are you going to find a model convention tomorrow?
Buzzmaster (12:40 PM)
Wouldn't rule it out. FYI, tomorrow is usually when the random B-list celebs start showing up. Always fun.
JB (TX)
Tell Dominique I've had a crush on her since 1992. That won't be creepy at all.
Jmerms (NYC)
Buzz, who is the biggest guy there?
Buzzmaster (12:40 PM)
Literally or figuratively? Joe Montana was the toast of the room early this morning. Then Deacon Jones took over. Think everyone is at lunch right now.
Sean (Philly)
Speaking of lunch, how's the spread?
Buzzmaster (12:42 PM)
It's every man, woman and leech for him or herself. No comp lunch.
rerun (su)
which random B,C, D-lister are you most excited to meet?
Buzzmaster (12:44 PM)
If I had any control over it, Sweet Dee from It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia would walk through that door in about 5 minutes.
Matt (Schenectady, NY)
Just curious.....who is Jim Rome talking to?
Buzzmaster (12:44 PM)
Not sure. He's a couple tables away.
Ryan (San Diego)
Matt, listen to his show. He had shannon sharpe on a few minutes ago
Harry Jennatoles
Who was the funniest player on media day?
Buzzmaster (12:45 PM)
Jeff Reed's hair.
Justin (Ohio)
People really listen to Jim Rome?
Danny (Mendham)
Buzz, where you at super bowl media day? How crazy was it?
Buzzmaster (12:47 PM)
Wouldn't say crazy. Pretty tame actually, compared to past years. Not many talkers on these two teams.
Travis (Montoursville, Pa)
How was Anquan Boldin's mood at Media Day???
Buzzmaster (12:49 PM)
Everyone witha podium kind of had that deer in headlights look.
Andy (Chapel Hill)
You're going to see most of the Steelers do their talking on the field. I'm sure the Wiz trained his squad the same way.
Dwight Schrute
Question: If you dont make it back can I have your job? Fact: I am meeting with the suits tomorrow to explain my plan of how I can make ESPN chats much better than you have. Starting with more beat farmers being on.
Buzzmaster (12:50 PM)
We can settle this with a deul.
kevin (wilmore PA)
has there been a Bill Cowher sighting in Tampa?
Buzzmaster (12:52 PM)
Haven't seen him. A lot of folks don't get in until Thursday.
Danny (Mendham)
Did anything top what happened last year with Tom Brady at media day?
Buzzmaster (12:54 PM)
Not even close. No marriage proposals.
Rob (Philly)
Buzz, is there any music in the background?
Buzzmaster (12:54 PM)
No. Just the sound of Michael Irvin and Nate Newton talking about the First Lady.
Joe (Bronx, NY)
Buzz, are you gonna watch TO's new reality show? ::snicker::
Buzzmaster (12:55 PM)
Hoping to get him on this week to talk about that.
Mike (Washington, DC)
Buzz, what do you think about the complaints some analysts have made over the last couple years about all the celebrities and high-rollers at the Super Bowl detracting from the game atmosphere itself? Do you see many "real fans" around Tampa? Will the Steelers Nation take over the game like they did the Monday Night game against the Redskins earlier this year?
Buzzmaster (12:56 PM)
That IS the atmosphere. Otherwise it's just another football game.
Tom (River North)
How do you expect real fans to show up when tickets are going for over $1000?
Buzzmaster (12:57 PM)
Actually, they're saying this year might be the best year ever to get a good scalped ticket price. We'll see.
Brittany (Indiana)
Tom, it's called debt. Most of us have it and keep getting more of it. Live it, love it!
Ben (State College, PA)
Buzz, is there any question that mike tomlin is the best dressed coach in the NFL?
Buzzmaster (12:59 PM)
Yeah, he was bringin' it coming off the plane. Whisenhunt kinda looked like he was going to work at a bank.
Buzzmaster (1:01 PM)
Mel Kiper is up next! Let's get him on here.
Mel Kiper (1:03 PM)
WE have the first round projection out last Thursday. We have the new ratings and new evaluations coming out.
Matt (NJ)
Mel, who wins the Super Bowl? What's the score and why?
Mel Kiper (1:05 PM)
I think Pittsburgh wins it. I always go defense over offense. I'm a pitcher over hitting, always. This is not just a good offense, it's an outstanding offense. Warner gets the ball out quick. Heat doesn't bother him. Philly outscored Arizona in the second half. Pittsburgh doesn't scare you on offense. The Hines Ward injury. In the end, Pittsburgh has been in a lot of close games this year. You think you've beat them for four quarters, but they find a good way to beat you. I expect Arizona to make it competitive. Pitt 31, Arizona 21.
Bryan (Fairfax)
Mel, do you really think Tennessee needs another DE over a WR? What are the chances they trade up to get a good WR?
Mel Kiper (1:07 PM)
Well, you can't take players based on positional needs. You don't just take a player to take a player. This is not a one round draft. You don't have one pick and that's it. Some teams have multiple picks. You don't worry about needs all the time. The thing that hurt Tennessee down the stretch was injuries to Vanden Bosch. Based on the way my first round projection went, which WR are you going to give to them that makes sense. I agree that they need a WR. Hakeem Nicks, Heyward-Bey, one of those would be interesting. But the way I had the projection going, those two kids were already off the board.
Ben (State College, PA)
Mel, What is the steelers priority in the draft. Who are some players you could see them taking?
Mel Kiper (1:09 PM)
Alex Mack, a center out of California. He really helped himself at the Senior Bowl. He is clearly the best center prospect. You can work centers at guard, tackles at guard. You can always try to make a center a guard initially. It gives you some flexibility. They're another team to look at WR. You need some help at that position. You could look later in the rounds. Defensively, this is the best defense in the NFL. When you continue to upgrade and get depth as much as you can. Getting Alex Mack in the first round, he's a value pick at 32, if he's still there.
Jeff (NYC)
More likely to be a starting QB in 2011 --- Leinart or Vince Young?
Mel Kiper (1:10 PM)
In terms of both of them, they both have to wait their turn. They have given way to veterans. Kurt Warner is a Hall of Fame QB. Leinart will have to wait his turn until Warner gets to a point that he can't get the job done any longer. You just don't know when that's going to happen. He's going to be the QB next year and maybe the year after.
Mel Kiper (1:11 PM)
In terms of Young, he's going to have to wait too. It wasn't Kerry Collins' fault that they lost to the Ravens. He carved up the Ravens defense, he just made that one bad throw. He has some seasons left. They're going to have to be backups for a while. Which one will play first? I don't know. It's a nice situation for the teams to be in. They think they have the heir apparent at QB, they just have to wait their turn.
Marc (Slippery Rock, PA
Mel, i was wondering where you would rank Big Ben with todays quaterbacks? And i was wondering also if you think Arizona can beat our defense?
Mel Kiper (1:12 PM)
I think he's one of the best. I would say right now a healthy Tom Brady is ahead of him; Peyton Manning and that's it. Big Ben would be third.
Mel Kiper (1:12 PM)
Manning at one and a healthy Brady and Roethlisberger three.
Steiny (NYC)
How much did B.J. Raji's stock is on the rise after an impressive week at the Senior Bowl?
Mel Kiper (1:15 PM)
I think the thing with him is he had a very good year. He had some dominant games. There were several games where he was a dominant performer. He had Ron Brace. They gave the Eagles some outstanding DLs. What Raji showed at the Senior Bowl was he was an outstanding pass rusher. That got some attention. The pass rush helped him. I had him going 12 to Denver. I think Todd McShay has him up at 4 to Seattle. I don't know if he's that hight, but 12 is the lowest he could go. He's a guy on the rise. If he continues to impress through the draft process, you could argue that he could be the first DL draft. This is the reason why I said a week ago that Gerald McCoy, the third year sophomore from Oklahoma, this is the exact reason why I said he made a mistake in returning. He could have been the first DL taken and he's going back to Oklahoma. He's a better player.
Max (Phoenix)
Besides either teams fans, what do you think people would rather see, Steelers get another championship or the underdogs to get there first?
Mel Kiper (1:18 PM)
There are a lot of Steelers haters out there, they're the team on the hill. They're a team that a lot of people love to hate. I know here in Baltimore people are rooting for Arizona. But Pittsburgh is a great football town. It's a great uniform, great helmet. If you watch the Steelers in the 70s, it's the same as now. The only change in uniform is the tweaking of the numbers. Great franchise, great Rooney family. This is a team that everyone cares about. But in my mind, I think people are probably going with the Cinderella story. This is like if Utah had been able to play in the BCS title game. But we'll never see that in the college game. We see it in the NFL.
Russ (Cleveland, OH)
Better pro wideout: Percy Harvin or Jeremy Maclin?
Mel Kiper (1:19 PM)
Maclin will be rated higher, so I'll go with the guy ranked higher. Maclin is a speed merchant and he's versatile. I think with Harvin, you'll get big plays and versatility as well. I like Harvin a lot. Maclin is going to go as high as 7 and Harvin at 17. You're getting good value with him at 17.
Steve (Issaquah, Wa)
Mel, Where do you see Grahm Harrel and Chase Daniel going in the draft? after the numbers they put up in college why are they not ranked higher?
Mel Kiper (1:21 PM)
Graham Harrell has to adjust to an NFL offense. He doesn't have great physical tools. He's probably a fifth round type of guy. Chase Daniel is a system QB, average arm. System QB, I'd say 6-7 round. It would not shock me if he went undrafted. But we've seen undrafted QBs do well in this league - Jon Kitna, Kurt Warner, Jake Delhomme, Tony Romo, Jeff Garcia.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Who do you see as the next non-BCS school QB who will have a significant impact in the NFL?
Mel Kiper (1:23 PM)
I like Drew Willy from Buffalo has a chance to surprise some people. Nate Davis at Ball State could have an impact.
Brian (Phoenix AZ)
Mel - Who do you think the Cardinals will take in the first round of the draft?
Mel Kiper (1:24 PM)
Running back. It's ironic that they're playing Pittsburgh and I have them picking a Pittsburgh RB - McCoy. He needs to try and not always hit the 60-yard run and just get the 3-4 yards. He's a talented all around back. Lots of skill. If they could get him at the 31-32 spot, that's a good pick.
Jonathan (NY,NY)
Mel, who is the best Strong Safety in the draft?
Mel Kiper (1:25 PM)
The best are William Moore from Missouri, who did not have the great senior year, but great junior year. Patrick Chung out of Oregon would fall into that category.
Travis (Montoursville, Pa)
How do you think Aaron Maybin from PSU will do in the NFL??
Mel Kiper (1:25 PM)
He hasn't done anything yet. He cna't play in any all star games. I think he could go as high as 10 to San Fran. He could be the edge pass rusher that teams really like. I would say in that 10-13 range.
Jon, Abingdon, VA
Mel, If Tenn can't get the Haynsworth deal done, and given their 30th spot, is there any value DT picks that could be available in the first 3 rounds?
Mel Kiper (1:27 PM)
Peria Jerry I don't think he'll be there, but if he were, I think it would be a nice pick. Sen-Derrick Marks from Auburn would be a nice pick. Ziggy Hood from Missouri is a third rounder. Ron Brace from BC is a possible second rounder.
nate (Cleveland, OH)
Who do you think will be a better pro linebacker, laurinitus or mauluga
Mel Kiper (1:29 PM)
They're both good prospects, they're not great prospects. You thought at the beginning of the year that one of them would be among the elite players. Neither of them have proven that. Maualuga traded big plays for consistency and Laurinaitis hasn't been as consistent. Maualuga provides good range, but he needs to do a better job of getting off of blocks. I have Mauluaga going 20 to Detroit and Laurinaitis to the Giants.
Patrick (Hoop Hall City)
If the Pats franchise and trade Cassel, is a mid 1st rounder too much or too little to ask?
Mel Kiper (1:31 PM)
I think they could get two 1's. That's the asking price. Kansas City might. It would be the third pick overall, fi they make that move. But I just don't see them trading Matt Cassel. He has great value to them. I don't think Robert Kraft wants to trade him. You don't know when Brady will be ready to go at 100%. Cassel might be a huge insurance policy, an expensive one. I feel like they feel compelled to keep him there. Then, maybe late in the process if Brady shows to be 100%, they could trade him. But I think they keep him one more year.
Mike (Boston)
Who does Aaron Curry project favorably to in the NFL?
Mel Kiper (1:32 PM)
I think he could project very favorably to Kansas City. Cleveland. Those would be very good spots for him. He's the kind of guy that makes everyone about him better. He has a great attitude, great approach. He plays the pass. He showed pass rush ability late in the year. He has good punt coverage abilities.
Mel Kiper (1:32 PM)
Cleveland needs more speed at LB and Curry would provide that.
Eli(Chicago)
Can you give Bears fans a scouting report on the DL from LSU that you project the Bears taking? Who would you compare him to?
Mel Kiper (1:34 PM)
He's a big kid. He can play virtually in any defensive system. You can move him inside in certain situations. Excellent against the run. I thought he had a very good year. He flew under the radar. He had been elite in his junior year. He'll be someone that we talk about a lot more positively as we move through the draft process. This offense could use some help as well. It's not a one round draft. you don't draft a player to fill a need. DL is a need for the Beras, so it's not like you're drafting for a place you don't need any help.
Anthony (Seymour, CT)
What happens with Peppers, and how does it change Carolina's draft strategy if he leaves?
Mel Kiper (1:36 PM)
Yeah, it does. That's the same. For Carolina, they have to make a decision on him. He still has a lot of good football left in him. I think Carolina, they have to asses their situation. They have no first round pick. They got Jeff Otah and gave up their pick to get that player. Carolina has to make some decisions too. I have to wonder about the QB situation. Jake Delhomme, solid QB. Is he going to be a guy to win a SB for you? That playoff game, against Arizona is going to be tough to overcome. They have to figure out what direction they're going in.
Derek (Springfield, IL)
Mel, will Beanie Wells make an impact for ANY team in the NFL in the future?
Mel Kiper (1:37 PM)
If he runs in the 4.3, like somepeople think he could. He has top 5 talent. He had the injury with his foot. He didn't run as aggressively as he has. He has incredible talent. He showed his talent against LSU in the championship game. If he runs in the 4.3s, he's moving way up. You could be looking at Cleveland in the 5.
adam (nyc):
chances rex ryan brings ray lewis to the jets? and if not do we still draft a reciever first round given ryans defensive mentality?
Mel Kiper (1:40 PM)
I can't see Ray going anywhere. He now becomes the leader down there. I thought Bill Cowher might get that Jets job. The Jets went after Rex Ryan. He's a tremendous motivator. He's been around Brian Billick and John Harbaugh. He puts his players in position to be successful. If Vernon Gholston isn't a big time player for Rex Ryan, then he won't for anybody. We'll know whether Gholston was a true bust or a boom. Brett Ratleff is a guy undrafted out of Utah that has shown a lot of promise. He's the kind of sleeper QB. I think they feel internally about is Brett Ratleff. He showed really well in the preseason. Seems to have the intuitiveness. He's one of hte sleepers in that organization.
Mel Kiper (1:40 PM)
I have them taking Percy Harvin, a jack of all trades on offense.
Chuck (Atlanta, Ga)
Mel, how come Knowshon Moreno seems to not be getting any love?
Mel Kiper (1:42 PM)
He's not doing anything. There's nothing happening. There's going to be no impact ont he draft status of the players until the combine. Juniors haven't done anything. They haven't played in any all star games. I think he could go as high as No. 16. I think he could be a mid first rounder. He's too versatile and too great of a character guy. You have great versatility and you play in the SEC, I can't see him getting past the first round. People compare him to Cadillac Williams, but I think he's a mid first rounder at worst. I could see him going in that general area. I could see him going to Denver, San Diego, Philly, any of them as possibilities.
Jeff (Breaux Bridge)
Where, if any, are Dallas' biggest needs for this draft?
Mel Kiper (1:44 PM)
They still have to think about an offensive lineman. It majorly underachieved. A very overrated OL going into the year. I think they have to make a decision on where to go at WR. Defensively, the secondary is an area they'll have to think about. No first round pick, it went to the Lions in the Roy Williams trade. They could use a WR, even with that trade, but not early. DB, OL are the areas early on.
Matt Canton NY
It is 22 degrees and we are getting 18 inches of snow. Only thing that will make it any better is when the Steeler's pown the Card's.
David (Tampa)
Mel, where's the DE from USF, George Selvie, being projected?
Mel Kiper (1:44 PM)
He's going to back to USF for his senior year. I thought that was a good move on his part. Next year he'll be one of the top DEs going into the season.
Pao St paul,mn
Who are the top 5 WR?
Mel Kiper (1:45 PM)
Michael Crabtree is the only one that could go in the top 5. He has great speed. Great WR. Competitive player. He's worthy of a No. 1 or No. 2 pick overall. Maclin I have going 7.
Gus (Virginia)
Mel Can you go out to dinner without someone asking you a question about the NFL draft?
Mel Kiper (1:47 PM)
Very rarely. That's true. Very rarely. I'm happy about that, because I enjoy talking to the fans about the teams. There's always a Redskins fan or Ravens fan or Eagles fan around in this area. But by in large, 95% of the questions are about the Ravens. It's a Ravens town. It's not an Orioles town anymore. I think it's one of the best football towns.
Mel Kiper (1:47 PM)
I think 10,000 strong went down to Nashville for the playoff game. This town is all about purple.
Eddie (Charlottesville, Va)
Will Myron Rolle be a better doctor or NFL player?
Mel Kiper (1:48 PM)
Hopefully he'll be outstanding at both. He was a good player at FSU. I didn't see him raise his performance to elite status. He's tremendously intelligent. He has very good skills as a football player. Had he been in this draft, he would have been a 2-3 round pick. Being out of football will impact him in the draft.
Andrew Mattison Gouverneur NY
Toughest the Steelers had the toughest schedule in NFL history with a super bowl win does this put these Steelers as the best NFL team ever?
Mel Kiper (1:51 PM)
I don't know about one of the best teams ever. They were in a lot of close games. They had to overcome a lot of injuries. Hines Ward injury. You had Paumalu. Roethlisberger was banged up. Willie Parker was out a lot. They got nothing out of the first pick in Mendenhall. They'll be one of the most resilient teams ever, considering all of the things they overcame. They battle. They don't whine, they don't complain. Another player steps in and picks up the slack. An injury for one provides another opportunity for another. Pittsburgh is a Steelers town. They always reflect the Rooney influence. I'm not a Steelers fan, but if you ever hear me talk about them, you think I am. I respect them. I have as much respect for them as any team in the league. They've become a great rivalry in the league.
Bruce (Wayne)
Cardinals going to score enough points to win this game? Is the over a good idea?
Mel Kiper (1:53 PM)
It's possible. I don't see Pittsburgh caving. I don't see them playing poorly in this type of environment. They can hit you early with some big plays. If you have the best offense against the best defense, I take the defense. You saw what the Eagles did in that second half. The Eagles dominated the second half.
Rob (Storrs)
Mr. Kiper...any uconn players going in the first day?
Mel Kiper (1:54 PM)
Donald Brown, the RB will. I think he could be, maybe, becomes a second or third round pick. Darius Butler could be a 2-3 round mix. He also played some offense. Also, Cody Brown, DE, could be a 3-4 OLB. 3-5 area for him. Will Beatty, OT could be in the 3-4 round mix.
Mel Kiper (1:58 PM)
I hope everybody enjoys the Super Bowl. We'll be back next week to talk more about the combine. Enjoy the game.
Buzzmaster (1:58 PM)
Thanks Mel!
Buzzmaster (1:59 PM)
Joe Montana was just doing Dallas radio and Matt Ryan happened by. The legend and the rookie are chatting right now.
Buzzmaster (1:59 PM)
I'll grab a picture.
Buzzmaster (2:03 PM)
I don't think Joe Montana is getting out of here any time soon. Every few feet he's getting asked for a picture or something. His rep telling people no, left and right.
Scott (MD)
I love Joe, say hi from niners fans across the country

Buzz stop flirting
Buzzmaster (2:07 PM)
Sorry. I had to finish my sandwich. No time to eat around here.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Do my eyes deceive me or is The Mullet back to chat some hockey?
Sean (Philly)
Buzz, how is your rep keeping all of the people away from you? OK, not all...but RGR, fred (omaha), etc?
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Who's up next in the chat, Buzz?
Buzzmaster (2:08 PM)
We have ESPN The Magazine's Chad Millman chatting at 2:30. He writes about Super Bowl odds and bets and all that.

Hey there.

STEELERS ARE GOING TO WIN THE SUPERBOWL BABY!!!
Pete (NC)
I wish I had the audacity to refuse someone taking a picture of me. Oh to be a legend...
Mike (Boston)
Matt Ryan is going to be great QB in this league. If last year was any sign of things to come, he is going to be very dangerous once his Falcons come completely together.
Buzzmaster (2:10 PM)
There are a lot of agent and publicist types walking around here, but not a lot of celebs doing chats. Weird.
skip ( NY)
Steelers 31-13, bank it!
Luke (Ohio)
What kind of sandwich did you eat?
Buzzmaster (2:10 PM)
It involved turkey.
Buzzmaster (2:11 PM)
Now I'm going to suffer from the post-turkey nap syndrome.

Why don't my comments appear?
Buzzmaster (2:11 PM)
They do now.

I would refuse to have my photo taken with Hines Ward until he apologizes to Keith Rivers for breaking his jaw!

How do you know he wouldn't refuse to have his picture taken with you?

Turkey is only good with mayo

Buzz, would you say its worth it for an average guy to save up for a year or two and go to the super bowl and its festivities?
Buzzmaster (2:12 PM)
I'd say forget the game. Come down for the week or part of it, enjoy the warm weather, do some people watching, celeb stalking and then watch the game with friends.
Joe (SouthPhilly)
Buzz did you have a turkey hoagie with the works?
Buzzmaster (2:13 PM)
Yes.

What are the odds you can get Matt Ryan to chat with us, Buzz?

Buzz, if you had an agent, would you pay him with? Pictures of money?
Buzzmaster (2:19 PM)
The honor of working with me.

Santonio Holmes MVP, 150 yards rec., Cards db's are very mediocre. If Ward is healthy he will go off as well.

I can affirmatively say that Nate Newton is still a big dude.

There's an afternoon Buzz chat?!?!
Buzzmaster (2:20 PM)
No, there's a still chatting Buzz chat.

I live in denver now but really wish i could have a primos hoagie in philly

Nate Newton just gave Marshall Faulk's agent a bag from Wendy's. He said he could have it. Nice guy.

Buzz, will you be my agent?
Sean (Philly)
An empty Wendy's bag?
Buzzmaster (2:24 PM)
No, it had fries or something in it.
Buzzmaster (2:25 PM)
Marshall Faulk has huge, bugeye sunglasses on.
BJ (Carmel, NY)
This is reminiscent of the Buzzmaster Monologues...
David Fairborn, OH
How long is radio row?
Buzzmaster (2:26 PM)
It's more of a big convention center room then a row. More square-ish then row-ish.
Nate (Madison)
What do you have for lunch down there. I had to go with solid, normal lunch choice. Subway, Roast Beef on wheat.
Buzzmaster (2:27 PM)
I walked the wrong way out of the Convention Center while Mort was talking. I didn't find much in terms of eateries. I hope that wasn't the bad part of town; I walked past where the Lightning play.
David Fairborn, OH
That's quite misleading then. I was thinking it was just a line of shows that stretched a good distance.
Buzzmaster (2:29 PM)
Chad Millman is up next! Get in your gambling, betting Super Bowl questions!
Kevin (Kent, OH)
Chad, what's your impression of the spread for the game?
Chad Millman (2:35 PM)
I think the number is inflated, in the places where the spread is steelers minus 7. Bookmakers got there because the steelers are huge public team that gets a lot of action from people who don't normally bet and because their defense is so good. But it feels like a lot of points, to me, against a Cards offense that scores a lot and Steelers team known for its D
David Fairborn, OH
Do you see super bowl gambling, overall, taking a hit because of the economy, or is this something that people will always pony up some cash for this equation
Chad Millman (2:37 PM)
I think it takes a hit, at least in Vegas. People i've spoken to out there say it hasn't been as busy, at least early in the week. But, there's lots of places to get some action down these days, so the numbers will never be truly known, until someone comes up with a way to accurately track what all the internet sites take in.
Bobby D Pittsburgh, PA
Chad, how many points will the Cardinals put up?
Chad Millman (2:37 PM)
My first instinct on this game was Steelers 24-20. Cards will cover, but Steelers will win.
leo (miami)
which team are most of your friends and family betting on?
Chad Millman (2:40 PM)
Most of the people I know like the Cards to cover, same as me. That offense is too good right now and I love Kurt Warner. The guy is not going to change his game or be rattled by the surroundings. And as I wrote in my Behind The Best Column last week, this game has Steelers up by 13 with two minutes left and Warner connecting with Fitzgerald for a point-spread covering score late.
Mike - LA
What are the odds of picking what song Bruce does first? How does that work with roadies knowing the set?
Chad Millman (2:41 PM)
This is a great question and something I'm covering in my column for tomorrow. The roadies definitely know. And if they go to an INternet site and see that prop, they should take it. In Nevada you can't make a bet like that. State rules say bets have to be determined by whats on the field. Thats why you cant bet on what will happen on Lost, either.
Aaron (Camp Hill, PA)
Do you get into any of the prop bets? And how do the lines get made on them?
Chad Millman (2:43 PM)
Some of them are fun. The cross sport ones keep you interested in two different games: Will Lebron score more than the Steelers. Those odds are made the same as all the point spreads. Bookmakers take everything they know, guess which way the public will go and put a price on it. Bettors have a lot of influence on how much a bet costs.
Ryan (San Diego)
When will the loser government give up its dumb fight to make online gambling extinct? They already cut off the banks and in turn many of the books stopped serving US customers. What is your stance?
Chad Millman (2:45 PM)
My stance is that this is a silly fight for the government to be having. Bigger issues to deal with, especially when there is so much state sanctioned gambling going on like lotteries, tribal casinos, horseracing, etc. Sports has long been a third rail of gambling for politicians. But there are some more pragmatic pols out there who i think will shake things up in the coming years.
Matt, Houston
So judging by your prediction of 24-20, you are thinking the under?
Chad Millman (2:46 PM)
Yep
PaulieP (Scottsdale)
Which NFL team drives bets the most? I'm guessing the Cowboys or the Steelers, or maybe the Lions, in a bad way?
Chad Millman (2:48 PM)
Steelers, Cowboys, Packers, Patriots, Colts and to a certain extent the Bears. All the teams that are historically popular or, during one generation, have dominated. Those are the teams people outside of their respective cities believe will win, regardless of the spread.
Ryan (San Diego)
What do you think of my prop bet that the Cardinals will receive the opening kickoff? I think if they win the toss they will elect to receive and if Pitt wins, they will defer because they want their defense on the field first
Chad Millman (2:48 PM)
I love this one. Great logic. Makes perfect sense.
eric el paso tx [via mobile]
we have a betting pool here at work. its kinda complicated but to sum it up i got money that by the end of the first half its steelers 10 cardinals 7. sound good to you?
Chad Millman (2:49 PM)
As good as anything else. In these games the players are so tight early on that one team might jump out to a quick score and then everyone will be exhausted from the adrenaline rush. So a low score in the first half makes sense.
Mike LA
Do you really think the Cards can hang 20 on the Steelers Defense? I think the Zone Blitz with the LBs dropping back is going to create problems for Warner. I think 10 to 16 points tops.
Chad Millman (2:51 PM)
i do think they can hit 20. The zone blitz is a great antidote to warner, who is great against the blitz but sometimes confuses coverages. But there will be two or three plays in which he reacts right and that could easily be 21 points right there.
Buc ray tampa [via mobile]
The new york teams seem to have inflated lines?
Chad Millman (2:52 PM)
Not really, especially not the jets. But even midway through the year, when the Giants were dominating, they were a couple point dogs against the Eagles in Philly. Homefield advantage is usually worth four points. If people were really betting up the Giants that game would have been closer to pick em.
leo (miami)
any thought on who will win game mvp?
Chad Millman (2:54 PM)
Gotta go with guys who the gameplan is built around first, so that would be Fitz, Parker, warner, Big Ben. But Ive got two wild cards: Hightower for the cards and Polamalu for the Steelers. If he makes another pick that finishes a game he'll be in contention.
George NH
Last years game where the Cards beat the steelers 21 - 14. I believe the Steelers lost on purpose. Now I am not saying all of them were in on it but they were ticked Wiz and Russ didnt get the job. We all know how Faneca thinks! Thoughts?
Chad Millman (2:57 PM)
I'm pretty sure the Steelers didn't lose on purpose. But this makes me think of a funny Super Bowl betting story, which was a question i just missed. I was talking to bookmaker Jay Kornegay from the Hilton yesterday for my Behind the Bets column tomorrow. He told me that after the Broncos won about ten years ago, a customer accused him of calling Shanahan on the sideline to put bubby brister in the game for a kneel down. Seems Kornegay had a prop that buster would do that and the guy who was mad at him bet against it.
David Fairborn, OH
Just think how much more money Boldin may get if he's SB MVP. Why couldn't be be MVP
Chad Millman (2:59 PM)
He could easily be MVP. But he's not on my list of top five likely candidates. Gotta think about how many more plays will be called for Fitzgerald. It's much harder for no 2 wide receivers to become mvp because their number isn't called as much. The past couple: Ward and Deion Branch, were NO. 1 options.
Mark Gurwitz , NYC
Chad, how do you feel about Boldin over 5.5 receptions? I feel like there is no way Pitt lets Fitz beat them and this opens up the door for Boldin to have a big day. Holla at your boy
Chad Millman (3:01 PM)
Since we're on a boldin roll, and this will answer the question about running on the steelers d, i can see him getting 6 or 7 receptions for about 55 to 65 yards. The cards won't be able to run well, but these shorts passes from warner to boldin will be like long handoffs. he won't get enough yards to be mvp, but he will do enough to keep the steelers from locking down fitzgerald.
clay new york [via mobile]
Do you like my Super Bowl MVP dark horse pick: Rogers-Cromartie? I'm saying 2 interceptions on Big Ben
Chad Millman (3:02 PM)
no. this is a horrible idea. if he has two picks and wins mvp email me and i'll give you space in my column to explain your genius.
Ryan (San Diego)
Where can we read your columns? Thanks
Chad Millman (3:04 PM)
click on the magazine tab at the top of the espn.com homepage. on the left hand side is row of column. way below reilly and simmons is behind the bets. you gotta really want it to get there. but hopefully you won't be disappointed.
Chad Millman (3:04 PM)
hey all, i gotta bounce and make way for franco harris. thanks for all the questions. good luck with your wagers this weekend. later.

I tried, but no one wants to represent me.

Why do put up with people like that? I think you do a great job Buzz!!!
David Fairborn, OH
I'm looking for a career change. I'll only charge 5% commission. I need to start somewhere.
Buzzmaster (3:10 PM)
Make it 0.5% and we might have deal.
Kevin (Kent, OH)
Buzz, I'll be your agent. All I ask for in return is a "master" on the end of my name--"Kevmaster"
Buzzmaster (3:11 PM)
It's a family name, and you're not my brother.
Shaun Kats (Hull, IA)
I'd work for that!
Matt (Schenectady, NY)
Buzz, I saw Montana's entourage on the Tirico and Van Pelt webcam. I guess when you win 4 Super Bowls you deserve an entourage of that size. My guess is the guy in the suit was the one saying no to the fans.
Buzzmaster (3:12 PM)
You guessed right. I don't blame him, though. They have a schedule and the second Montana stops is the second they get an hour behind schedule.
Kevin (Kent, OH)
How about 2nd cousin through marriage? We could pull something off like that, and you could have a free agent!? (No pun intended)
Steve (NJ)
You're a tyrant buzz. Move on
Buzzmaster (3:13 PM)
Just a few more minutes and Franco will be here. 3:15 is the time for his arrival.
Hoppy (Luck, WI)
I once served Montana a beer, no entourage to speak of.
Buzzmaster (3:14 PM)
It looks like Harris has an entourage as well. There should be an entourage-off. All the legendary athletes get together and see who has the most followers.
Tom (Pa)
Since franco is from pittsburgh that makes him franco american
Hutch (Htfd.)
Sonic has commercials so delicious, I wanna eat my T.V. You have the chance and haven't tried it? Please, Buzz, for the love of all things good and tasty try it, do it for the kids.
David Fairborn, OH
And they say entourages are only for rappers...
Buzzmaster (3:15 PM)
Franco will mention this when he gets here, but he's got a DVD coming out and it's called the "NFL's Funniest Players." Michael Strahan hosts it.

chris (jersey)
franco...a few years back i played in a NJ all-star game with the kid who played for new egypt and broke your burlington county rushing record (lee hopkins)...did you ever get to see him play?
Franco Harris (3:18 PM)
No I did not. As a matter of fact. I didn't know I had a record.
Eddie (dayton, OH)
Franco, I am only going to ask this once. Immaculate Reception....did you really catch it? Thanks and go Steelers.
Franco Harris (3:19 PM)
The old man Art Rooney said, always keep that play Immaculate. Never talk about it or give any answer. and I never have and never will.
Robert (Louisville)
So, Franco, are you one of the NFL's Funniest Players, like the DVD suggests, or are you just on the DVD talking about funny players?
Franco Harris (3:19 PM)
This DVD is on current players. So, I am not part of this DVD.
Franco Harris (3:19 PM)
But I'm not sure I would make it anyway.
Alex (Bowling Green, KY)
I have never got one of my comments answered either, but anyways here is my question - Franco, being an x-Steeler, Do you think Kurt Warner can exploit this dominate Steeler defense?
Franco Harris (3:20 PM)
If any QB scares me, it is Kurt Warner. But our defense usually rises to the challenge.
Brent Columbus OH
Willie Parker over a 100 yards? I mean this Arizona d might be for real.
Franco Harris (3:20 PM)
You are right. Their defense has looked very good the last couple of weeks. I'm picking Willie to be the MVP.

Favorite steeler besides yourself?
Franco Harris (3:21 PM)
Past or present? Joe Greene. Mean Joe Greene.

franco!!!tell me what were your exact thought the second the ball fell into your hands?
Franco Harris (3:21 PM)
Run you fool run!
Kevin (Kent, OH)
Franco, How much has the Super Bowl itslef changed since you became very familiar with it in the 70's?
Franco Harris (3:22 PM)
The halftime shows got better. Better parties.
Franco Harris (3:22 PM)
It would be your own judgement if the football is better.
Dale (Louisville)
who's the funniest player?
Franco Harris (3:24 PM)
I've got to think there are a few funny players. Peyton Manning is funny. Ray Lewis. Donovan McNabb. And yes, Michael Strahan, I can throw in there.
Goldstar (Leesburg, VA)
Franco, Do you think the Bus will be a first ballot hall of famer?
Franco Harris (3:24 PM)
Absolutely.
James (Chicago)
Is there anyway the Cardinals can outscore the Steelers, with Pittsburgh's defense being as good as it is?
Franco Harris (3:25 PM)
If they do, that means they win. Since I'm a big believer in the Steelers defense, I will say no.
Franco Harris (3:25 PM)
Enjoy this great game of football. You fans really make this game special.
Franco Harris (3:25 PM)
And to my fans in the SteelersNation, we need all of your energy this Sunday. Bring it.
Buzzmaster (3:26 PM)
Thanks Franco! And you can check out a picture of the DVD by going here. Or by copying and pasting this URL - http://a.espncdn.com/photo/2009/0128/sn_nfldvd_200.jpg
Buzzmaster (3:26 PM)
Everyone wants a piece of Franco Harris. He's got an entourage as well...well, not so much an entourage as groupies.
Buzzmaster (3:28 PM)
Franco was yelling to Mike Ditka halfway through our chat. He actually got up to go over and talk to him.
Buzzmaster (3:28 PM)
But I thought, for Mike Ditka, we can put our chat on hold.
Kevin (Kent, OH)
Yelling TO Mike Ditka, or AT Mike Ditka?
Buzzmaster (3:29 PM)
To. Iron Mike was leaving an interview of his own.
Dustin (Iraq)
For Ditka? I would say that's acceptable. No one scares me at that age more than Ditka!
Buzzmaster (3:31 PM)
He did Michael Irvin's radio show and called him a steroid user....granted, he was joking and Irvin was laughing, but that takes some....um...small round objects to do that.

I read that mike ditka once beat up chuck norris...just sayin...

Buzzmaster (3:33 PM)
Unconfirmed reports that Bill Simmons will be chatting on Friday. Along with Deion Sanders.

Primetime will be chatting on Friday? Where would I find this out? I'll have to stay up again for the one and only. Boy can he ever entertain!
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
After checking the chat list for tomorrow, I'm guessing Giants' fans will not be highly productive.
Buzzmaster (3:37 PM)
Neither will I because Jared from Subway will be here.
Ryan (San Diego)
I cant believe this whole time there has been weekly gambling columns every week and I just now found out about it. At least I can go back and read them all and kill the last couple hours at work
Buzzmaster (3:38 PM)
That's what we're here for - providing people from all over a way to procrastinate at work.
Steiny (NYC)
Unbelievable chats tomorrow. Brandon Jacobs, Michael Strahan, Billie Jean King, Warren Sapp, AND Drew Brees. Buzz tomorrow may be the greatest day ever. Are they all going to be on your chats like Franco Harris or is it going to be their own chats like Hines Ward?
Buzzmaster (3:39 PM)
Everyone will be in here except Billie Jean King. Hines Ward is in another chat room because our Insider group set that one up and it's an Insider chat.
Scott (Minny)
I'm going to jump from the top of my cube if I'm not posted soon! Unfortunately I would only break an ankle.
Luke (Ohio)
So do we have to talk to the buzzmaster till 5? What about if were not insiders does that mean we have to talk to him even longer?!
Buzzmaster (3:39 PM)
Yes, that's your punishment.
Buzzmaster (3:40 PM)
We have our eyes on the look out for anyone else we can snag for a chat.
Buzzmaster (3:40 PM)
It's crazy in here. It's like throwing meat in the water to hungry sharks. A celeb/athlete comes in and everyone tries to get a piece.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Why not just tell us you grabbed someone and then chat as if you were them? It's not like it hasn't happened in these chats before.
Buzzmaster (3:41 PM)
Uhhhhh, that has never happened in these chats before.
Buzzmaster (3:42 PM)
Maybe by you guys, but never on this end.
Scott (Minny)
Maybe Eva Longoria will walk in!
Buzzmaster (3:42 PM)
She wouldn't last. She'd be torn apart by the wolves.
Buzzmaster (3:42 PM)
Mad Dog, formerly of Mike and the Mad Dog on WFAN has the prime spot. The Sirius and XM radio tables are right when you walk in the door to Radio Row.
Spivey (Atl)
sure buzz, sure.
Chris O'Donnel (Tampa)
Buzz, i'm available bro
Bill: (Pocono Lake, PA)
What a class act Franco Harris is, just like all of the other Steelers from the dynasty days of the 70's. Another win on Sunday and they will have the most ever. Best organization in sports?
Steiny's teacher (NYC)
I won't get any work out of Justin tomorrow.
Buzzmaster (3:44 PM)
By the way, I think Chad Pennington got a better offer. We were going to have him at 4, but his people came by and he bailed.
Buzzmaster (3:44 PM)
Go check the other media outlets out there and let me know if you see him anywhere at 4. I'm out for vengence.
fred (omaha)
You could grab me anytime Buzz!
Steiny (NYC)
Nice pictures Buzz. I just saw them on facebook. I love how you wrote That's my boy Matty Leinart. He doesn't know it, but he is. At least, as long as he can get me into parties.
Marc (NY)
Steelers aren't the best organization in sports.
JB (TX)
Shannon Sharpe was pimping avocados on Jim Rome's show when i was out for lunch. He should still be around...
Buzzmaster (3:46 PM)
I could go for a good avocado right now. Some nice guacamole.
Noah (Henderson, KY)
How do you pimp an avocado?
Buzzmaster (3:49 PM)
You dress it up real sexy and shove it out on to the streets.
Bob (BAWSTON)
Steiny, how can you sit in front of the computer for so long each day?? Don't your eyes get tired!!!!
Eddie (State College, PA)
It's snowing like bejeezus here. Must be nice Tampa.
Buzzmaster (3:51 PM)
LadyBuzz said it's messy up in CT.
Adam (Louisville, KY)
Who's taking the Steelers on Sunday at -7?
Buzzmaster (3:52 PM)
I don't know who wins the game, but I'm taking the Cardinals at +7. That's a big number for the SB.
Devon (Pittsburgh, PA)
Here is my trash talk. Kurt Warner will get destroyed by the Steelers D. Here we go Steelers, here we go!
Buzzmaster (3:52 PM)
I like that you gave us a preview of what's coming. Here's my statement: Good trash talk.
Buzzmaster (3:52 PM)
It's very RGR-ish.
Clay (charlotte)
To pimp an avocado you would really need to pit it first.
Jon (Des Moines, IA)
No snow in Des Moines today! We even hit 23 degrees... Wow, get me to Florida! Steelers 27, Arizona 23
Las Vegas, Nevada
Little bit of fresh lime juice and some chohula sauce is all you need to pimp an avacado. GO STEELERS!!
Scotty (Newport News, VA)
If you sit in front of a computer all the time, your eyes get used to it. But the first couple of weeks are rough.
Dustin (Iraq)
I'm with you Devon. Go black and gold!
Ed (Pittsburgh)
Steelers 27 Arizona 9
Ryan, Wilmington DE
save the avocados for armadillo mans wife
Dan (Sin City)
To all of the fair weather fans in the desert... Get a clue the Cardinals will show their mettle. They're in the NFC West for Pete's sake.
Buzzmaster (3:56 PM)
Tell that to the Eagles, who played in the NFC East, the supposed best division in the league.
JB (TX)
+7 a big number for the superbowl? The 80s would respectfully disagree.
Buzzmaster (3:57 PM)
That's back when there were dynasties and all that. This is the 21st century NFL, where parody (yes, I spelled that right) reigns supreme.
Mike (Happy Valley, Pa)
Buzz, no love from JoePa country? I must be the suck today!
Ryan, Wilmington DE
if the steelers cover -7 buzz, you have to admit how much you love oprah and celine dion
Buzzmaster (3:58 PM)
Here's Liiiiiiiiizzzzzzzzz Leeeeeeeemmmmmmoooooonnnnnn.
Donny Iris
tell that to mcnabb who apparently plays with his eyes closed
Dustin (Iraq)
It's hard to sit in front of a computer all day when the government blocks every site you want to look at. That takes a lot of getting used to.
Buzzmaster (3:58 PM)
Stop looking at the porn sites. My tax dollars are paying for that computer.
Buzzmaster (3:59 PM)
Wait...is it correct to joke around with a soldier who's in the war zone?
Ed (Pittsburgh)
Why are none of my posts showing up? Don't be a hater buzz.
Buzzmaster (3:59 PM)
Ohhhhh, wahhhhh. You're a hater, you hate all of my favorite teams because you won't post my one post out of the 5,000 that you currently have lined up in queue.
Steve (Pittsburgh, PA)
Are there scalpers on every street corner down there?
Buzzmaster (4:00 PM)
Not yet, but there are creepy autograph hounds. Everywhere. I saw three yesterday - one wearing a Tom Brady jersey, one wearing a Jim Kelly jersey and one wearing a Joseph Addai jersey. What the heck?
Byers (Rohnert Park, CA
yeah buzz dont be a hater!
Ryan (San Diego)
Solid 30 Rock reference Buzz
Tom (River North)
Wow Buzz. That was completely random. And fantastic.
Hutch (Htfd.)
here is what you missed Buzz, it snowed starting around 3 a.m., until noon, which led to ice coating the sidewalks and driveways, so that Htfd now looks like a glazed doughnut.
JB (TX)
Spelled right but wrong use. A parody is like in comedy i.e. spaceballs is a star wars parody. You're looking for parity.
Buzzmaster (4:01 PM)
No. How about this - the current NFL is a parody of the 80's NFL when there were dominant teams and dynasties all over the place.
The Suits (Bristol)
5000 queued up? HAHAHAHAHA. Right. We already said you could stay again tonight.
Adam (Bowling Green, KY)
Jim Kelly! He has to be in pain when watching the Super Bowl!
David Fairborn, OH
Buzz, I'd watch what you'd say to Ed. For all we know he could be a Steinmurms in the making.
Larry (TX)
isnt that 30 rock tina feye?
Buzzmaster (4:02 PM)
Yes, but that's what she says to Oprah on the plane.
Ed (Pittsburgh)
It's more like a dozen. But it's snowing and I took the day off. Aint nothin else to do.
Buzzmaster (4:03 PM)
At least you had a day off.
Buzzmaster (4:03 PM)
I am digging the free drinks they have here. Keeping me hydrated. That's the key to 18 straight hours on the computer.
Ryan (San Diego)
Was reading the transcript...people on the east coast know of guacamole? Say what?
Buzzmaster (4:04 PM)
Yeah, they make good stuff in New York City.....
Buzzmaster (4:04 PM)
New York City?!
Dustin (Iraq)
Of course it's ok. I need some comic relief. People around here are more serious than a heart attack if you can believe it! As for the porn sites, man I wish but apparently this war of all wars we needed to fight without booze or babes.
Buzzmaster (4:05 PM)
We appreciate it. And we appreciate you driving the tanks around not all tanked.
Ryan, Wilmington DE
id rather put bad avocado's in my 7 layer dip than root for the cardinals sunday
The Office Calendar (January 28)
People keep calling me a wunderkind. I dont even know what that means. I mean, I know what it means. It means you're very successful for your age, so I guess it makes sense but ... it's a weird word. - Ryan
David Fairborn, OH
Do people out west know what bbq pulled pork is? Doubt it.
common sense
Hello....Jim Johnson...Are you there? Its me....DONT SINGLE COVER FITZGERALD
Jeff (St. Louis)
Lots of Warner love from St. Louis and the magic man will pull out another wonder. Cardinals 24 Steelers 21. Big Ben is over-rated!
Ryan, Wilmington DE
what kind of drinks???? do they have umbrella's?
Buzzmaster (4:06 PM)
No. Just the basics - Gatorade, soda, water, coffee.
Sheon (NC)
Use your palm palette
Buzzmaster (4:07 PM)
You like your palms. Sure, it's childish, but it works.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
I believe the quote is, 'LICK your palms," Buzz.
Buzzmaster (4:08 PM)
Oh yeah. Small typo. What do you want from me? I've been at the computer for 6 hours today.
Buzzmaster (4:08 PM)
Hang on all. I'm going to make a round....see if there are any celebs for chats or people to oogle.
Buzzmaster (4:11 PM)
Struck out on the chatters.
Buzzmaster (4:11 PM)
Not on the ooglers.
Dustin (Iraq)
Can we do this more often to make my time go by a lot quicker? I haven't laughed this hard in months! Finally I get some ESPN on this darn t.v.!!!!!!!! Is NFL live really on right now?
Buzzmaster (4:12 PM)
Yes, it is. Live from Tampa.
Christian (High Point, NC)
You couldn't even find a punter? That's not Division I chatting, Buzz.
Big Ben (Tampa)
People are constantly hating me, over-rating me, criticizing me, but it's all good! I'll just sit back, take it all in and continue to win!
Buzzmaster (4:13 PM)
OK. I think I'm going to head back over to the ESPN office. There's got to be someone over there to chat with. It's kinda dead over here.
Buzzmaster (4:13 PM)
Our office is across the channel from the Media Center.
Rickey (Chicago)
Dustin, check out the chat every day at 10 a.m. ET. The Morning Buzz. Here for your entertainment.
Mike (Happy Valley, Pa)
Buzz, I'm telling ya, go after the kicker...J Reed!
ed lancaster
whoa big ben on chat!
Buzzmaster (4:15 PM)
It's funny. Nearly every radio station down here has a webcam.
Aaron (camp hill, PA)
Lets go with some B-list celebs! Where is Tara Reid when you need her???
Buzzmaster (4:15 PM)
Never in the right spot.
Chad (Las Vegas) [via mobile]
Whatsa hapennin' Buzz?
Buzzmaster (4:15 PM)
I'm on the move back to the ESPN office to catch some of our people there before they run off on me.
Justin (Chicago)
Webcams and gentleman's clubs, that's what Tampa does!
Tara Reid (in a gutter )
I'm right here!!!
Buzzmaster (4:17 PM)
I wonder if I can do the chat [via mobile] myself? Interesting question.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Is it a real office Buzz or just a temporary setup for the Super Bowl?
Buzzmaster (4:18 PM)
Real office building yes. Temporary setup for the Super Bowl, yes. Like the telemarketing scheme building we had last year, no.
David Fairborn, OH
How are you carrying your laptop, one handed? I want to invent a flat board with a neckstrap for people who want to walk and type. Or, maybe you are just a walking robot.
Buzzmaster (4:18 PM)
No, but I'm really going to go over there now...give me a few minutes to walk back over there. I think I saw Gary Horton hanging out yesterday. Maybe he's around again.
Buzzmaster (4:19 PM)
Be back in about 5 everyone. Take a break. Get more coffee, hit the vending machines.
Buzzmaster (4:28 PM)
Back! Yes, Gary Horton is hanging out so he's here and ready for your questions. Gary has watched film on the Cards and Steelers practically nonstop for the last week and has some interesting observations. He'll be here shortly.
al (dc)
Do people like Gary Horton know who you are? Or do they refer to you as teh annoying kid who bugs them?
Buzzmaster (4:32 PM)
Usually they try to avoid eye contact, turn their back and then whip out the cell phone to pretend they are in a conversation. But Buzz waits. And waits.
Gary Horton (4:34 PM)
I am in amazement that most people think this is a lopsided game in favor of Pitt. People are giving Arizona no chance. This is setting up to be a really good matchup and a very entertaining game. I think a lot of people are going to be surprised by this game.
Ryan, Wilmington DE
Gary, what are some of your key matchup for sunday?
Gary Horton (4:34 PM)
The key matchup is the pass rush pressure of Pittsburgh on Kurt Warner. He gets the ball out so quickly and is very tough to pressure. The Steelers are going to have to be really innovative in how they attack him and from which direction.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Mr. Horton: Please give us a player on each team who you see as a potential X-Factor for Sunday.
Gary Horton (4:36 PM)
Ryan Clark with Pittsburgh. He's a very interesting guy. If he plays well in a lot of cover 1 looks where he is a center fielder, Polamalu can be Polamalu and have the freedom to do whatever he wants. Clark has to have a strong, athletic game but also has to play smart. With only one safety over the top a lot of times, Clark may have to roll to the perimeter to help with coverage. He will have to make really good decisions on which corners to help.
Gary Horton (4:39 PM)
As for the Cardinals ... TE Leonard Pope. Because they spend so much time in a 3-WR set, we don't think of the TE as a big part of this offense. But he is athletic enough to stand up in a bunch formation, they will occasionally throw him a screen and with all the attention going to the receivers, he will get a lot of single coverage matchups, probably vs. a LB because they will try not to waste Polamalu in coverage.
Adam (Hamilton, Ontario, Canada)
Hey Gary, do you think Willie Parker is gonna rush for more then 100 yards on sunday?
Gary Horton (4:40 PM)
No. I know Parker is fresh and running better but this is not the same Arizona run defense we saw during the regular season. They are doing a much better job. The key is to play good contain techniques on the outside and not let him get around the edge. TE Heath Miller does a great job of sealing the corner. Parker likes to press the hole and then bounce outside. Arizona's DE and LBs cannot afford to get hooked by Miller.
Bret (Phoenix, AZ
How big of an impact will Coach Whiz and his familiarity of Big Ben have on the outcome?
Gary Horton (4:41 PM)
I think all that stuff is overrated. Big Ben is a better player than he was when Whisenhunt had him. But both Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh defense had two weeks to prepare with tons of film. So I don't think Whisenhunt has much of an edge.
Justin (Chicago)
Gary, please describe Buzz.
Gary Horton (4:44 PM)
Buzz is much more comfortable in our ESPN office in Tampa than he is out among the public. My guess is he will order in for dinner tonight. And he probably won't be at any of the big parties. And I don't believe he has his invitation yet to the Playboy party. Buzz is here to work. In his mind, this game could just as easily be played in North Dakota.
Dustin (Iraq)
With Dick Lebeau's familiarity with Whiz, do you think Coach Whiz tries any big tirckeration?
Gary Horton (4:46 PM)
No question. That is his style. He loves gadget plays. Ironically, the double pass that they threw, Whiz did the same thing with the Steelers in the playoffs in 2005. I think he wants to make the opposition work and be aware of it. And his players like gimmick plays. Taking a shot at some trick plays could be beneficial.
Carla (Minot, North Dakota)
There is nothing wrong with North Dakota! Especially when Josh married Fergie!
Gary Horton (4:47 PM)
Buzz might have been there for that.
Ryan, Wilmington DE
Are you going to the Playboy Party ?
Gary Horton (4:47 PM)
No. I'm going to dine in with Buzz I think.
Brian (NY)
How much credit do you give Dennis Green?
Gary Horton (4:48 PM)
I think he deserves some credit. He drafted some of these guys.
Spivey (Atl)
I've been very impressed w/ Tomlin since his tenure began...How much involvement does he have in gameplanning from an offensive and defensive perspective ? Also, would you put him at the head of the class currently in the coaching biz, sans Bellicheck ?
Gary Horton (4:50 PM)
Most head coaches spend so much time these days in the big picture and overseeing things, that it is rare that you see them intimately involved in gameplanning. But his background might lend him to be more involved in the defense. His biggest asset is his toughness and mindset about how to prepare. He leaves it to his coaches to do the Xs and Os. But no question he is the guy in charge.
Joshua (Casa Grande, AZ)
Who will have more total yeard Larry Fitzgerald or Anquan Boldin?
Gary Horton (4:52 PM)
I think Fitzgerald. He is on such a roll right now. He is almost impossible to cover. Whether you double team him or not, he does such a great job elevating. He can take the ball away from almost any defensive back. I don't think Pittsburgh is going to be silly and try to give so much attention to Fitz that they ignore Boldin. Remember, Breaston is pretty good, too. I think Fitzgerald will have a big game because he will run a lot of those underneath crossing routes where he makes yards after the catch.
Angie (WV)
Who will be the MVP? Do you think this is the year that a defensive player could win?
Gary Horton (4:53 PM)
I don't think so. I think this is going to be a fairly high scoring game. It's going to come down to one of the two QBs.
Megan (Memphis, TN)
This is an awesome forum for interactive press coverage. How's the circus in Tampa? What's the best thing you've seen down there this week?
Gary Horton (4:55 PM)
It's not very circus-like just yet. Not too crazy until Thursday. This looks like it's going to be a Pittsburgh-heavy crowd. I think the economy is also a factor. A lot of the big, sponsored parties this year aren't as big. I get the feeling some people/companies don't feel comfortable overdoing things. But Tampa is great. Awesome downtown. Great weather.
Ange (california) [via mobile]
A lot of talk has been said about a prolific offense vs a great defense that makes the O initially the more glamorous pick. But doesnt this game remind you of the Raiders vs. Tampa Bay build up? Are you seeing the same result? Also if history serves me right the better D wins regardless...NYG vs. The alleged best O in NE. Balt vs NYG, Stl vs NE etc...
Gary Horton (4:58 PM)
I would have agreed with you a month ago but the Arizona defense I have seen in the playoffs has confused me. They are playing better than any of us expected. They have a chance to do a good job depending the Pittsburgh offense. I think this really comes down to both offenses and who can be the most creative. I may be in the minority but I think both offenses will move the ball pretty freely. Arizona will just have to do it through the air.
miguel sa tx [via mobile]
r the cardinals gonna win?
Gary Horton (5:01 PM)
OK, my Super Bowl pick .. I've watched a ton of film and while the Steelers are a tough team with a great defense ... and they are an easy pick .. there is something about the Cardinals that reminds me of the Giants from last year. I don't think the Pitt pass rush will get to Warner. I think he will step up and nickel and dime the Steelers with the short passing game. I think it will be an interesting offensive game to watch and the Cardinals will win 27-21 with Kurt Warner winning MVP! I'll be back during the game on Sunday and look forward to your questions!
Buzzmaster (5:02 PM)
You're the best, Gary! OK, kids, it's been fun. And we're just getting started. We'll be back tomorrow with Brandon Jacobs, Drew Brees, Warren Sapp ... and more! It all starts at 10am! Oh, and Friday ... Bill Simmons .. need we say more?
Buzzmaster (5:02 PM)
