Amy Nelson (9:36 AM)
Hey everyone. I'll be back around 10:00 am to start the chat. It's Skip and Kordell Stewart today. And Jay Crawford is already talking trash with Stewart and telling him he's got to step up and make a call. So we'll be talking Steelers, Mo Williams overshadowing Lee-bron, and anything else you guys want to talk about,.
Amy Nelson (10:02 AM)
Ok guys we're ready to get it going today, how is everyone? I'm very happy for people who don't live on the east coast. Snow storming over here...
Michael Columbus, OH
Just wondering if Bayless is going to continue his hate fest on the CAVS and LBJ. I'm sure he will say something bogus about him on tomorrow's show regarding his triple double!
Travis (Athens, OH)
Oh man, Ohio is completely shut down school-wise. Slush and ice everywhere with freezing rain still coming down. Made me happy though, haha.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Snowing here in Northeast PA too Amy. We're tough though so we just deal with it.
Cory(PA)
NO SCHOOL!!!!!!!!! I am very good and how are you?
Amy Nelson (10:04 AM)
Congratulations to people who have no school, Unfortuntaelty, work still happens...
Jeremey(Louisville, KY.)
What was even more impressive is that Lebron had a tripl-double and Mo was just 2 rebounds away from having one too. Amy, ask Skip has two players on the same ever had a triple-double?
Amy Nelson (10:04 AM)
I would think Mo almost having one, no?
Travis (Athens, OH)
One thing that has surprised me about the media coverage with the Super Bowl, is no mention of Pat Tillman. Thought that would be a hot topic when it comes to the Cards.
Amy Nelson (10:05 AM)
Good point Travis, I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned.
Paul (Indianapolis, IN)
Amy, why is everyone praising Fitzgerald for wanting to restructure his contract to have room to sign Boldin? Fitzgerald isn't losing any money but just stretching it out, whats the big deal?
Joe (Staunton, VA)
Why is everyone so high on Big Ben? I understand he is a great leader. But people are talking about him being one of the top QB's in the league. He's won one Super Bowl, but it wasn't becuase of him. He had a 22 QB rating in that game. This year his defense is carrying him. What's the deal?
Amy Nelson (10:07 AM)
I think that's a point that's been discussed but I'll ask Kordell and Skip that becayse maybe they'll have somethign to say. I know SC did a piece on that yesterday, hwo Ben wants to improve his performance
Richard (wellington ks)
Lebron is good but untill he wins a title (which he wont as a cav) why is everyone such a lebron bandwagon jumper
Willie: Cleveland, OH
Pat Tillman was a very good player and an even greater person. He is a true American and a true hero. I agree there should be more mention of him.
Cory(PA)
It really is not that impressive. I am sorry. Mo Williams scoring 43 is the only thing. Really, they were playing the KINGS, not the celtics, lakers, rockets, no the KINGS
Paul (Indianapolis, IN)
Mo Williams is showing that he is the pure clutch shooter the Cavs need to reach the next level. Prince James should be thanking management for getting Mo because now he has a real chance to win a championship before going to New York in 2010.
Jeremey(Louisville)
How about a inch of ice and 300 trees down and electricity out everywhere. With snow coming down on top of that now!
Amy Nelson (10:08 AM)
Rough!
Bo (Tampa,Fl)
Someone needs to pressure Skip to mention Lebron finally hitting a game winning jump shot this weekend!!!!!
Amy Nelson (10:09 AM)
He's already not acknowledged that.
Travis (Athens, OH)
Because he's still making the effort to keep Boldin there Paul. Plus, Fitzgerald is a true quality personality in a sport, and especially a position that's filled with prima donna's.
Amy Nelson (10:10 AM)
You know I think we should be careful to annoit Fitzgerald a saint. HE was arrested for domestic violence in October. He might not be flashy, but that doesn't mean he's an angel either.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
This is the last chat before the Super Bowl and we're talking meaningless January NBA games? C'mon Amy, we might as well talk some NHL then.
Amy Nelson (10:11 AM)
we're not only talking that, johnny. rouch!
Mark (nj)
How amazing is it that Manny is out there & no body wants him? IF he played football he'd be signed yesterday.
Amy Nelson (10:12 AM)
Funny how being a poor teammate and a quitter suddenly makes you less relevant. He'll get a job, he'll get paid, just not as much as he had hoped.
Chris, East Lansing
Granted, Mo and Lebron were playing the Kings, a not so fantastic team, but they still put up (almost) two triple doubles. Against any team, 43 is ridiculously hard. Against any team triple doubles are hard. The Kings are bad, but people don't drop 43 and a triple double on them every game, right? Don't belittle achievement, Mo has been playing well all year. Cavs are scary.
Steve (Lock Haven, PA)
Big ben is a great leader... I think he is a top QB in the league because he keeps winning. For me the main ingredients to make a top QB in the league would be the ability to keep winning, and having superb leadership ability
Cory(PA)
Every game matters, Johnny.
Willie: Cleveland, OH
LeBron is not going to new york. he wants to win a championship, not go to a rebuilding team.
Amy Nelson (10:12 AM)
sorry willie, don't see him staying.
Richard (wellington ks)
Manny is over rated, and plus you dont know if he is going to give it his all, would you rather have Manny or someone you know will give you his all every single at bat on both sides of the ball?
Paul (Indianapolis, IN)
I'm glad Prince James made a game winning shot the other night because it happens with such rarity that when it eventually happens it is something to be admired. It isn't like James is Kobe, Jordan, & Bird who did it more than once every couple of seasons.
Landon(ky)
HEY TELL SKIP THAT THE CARDS ARE GOING TO KILL HIS STELERS
Amy Nelson (10:15 AM)
And the reason is...? Give me some actual reasons...
Willie: Cleveland, OH
I didn't say he was gonna stay in Cleveland, but i dont think he will go to NY or any other team this does not have a good chance of winning a championship
Mike (Connecticut)
Cardinals will win this game. Fitzgerald is your MVP
Mark (nj)
Manny is alot of things. Overrated is not one of them.
Paul (Indianapolis, IN)
The only hope the Cards have of winning is have Fitzgerald run down the field every play drawing a double team and then do dip and dunk passes to Boldin & Breaston until they march down the field and score. Their only hope is to have everyone else beat the Steelers besides Fitzgerald.
Bo (Tampa,Fl)
Unless Lebron wins a championship before he is a free agent, there is almost no chance he stays, simply out of corporate pressure.
Amy Nelson (10:16 AM)
Totally agree.
Jeremey(Louisville)
Willie you are forgetting that whatever team he goes to he won't be going there alone. Check the 2010 free agent list.
Bo (Tampa,Fl)
Skip has a point, we have seen just last year and in recent history that defense usually beats offense.
Nick Phx, AZ
Get him Kordell!! A man who bleeds steeler black and gold, sticking by the cardinals. with facts! i was there last year when we beat them with an inferior team.
Brian Poolesville, MD
Amy, b/c of the ecomony, First Take did not go down to Tampa, and if so, they should have...this week is the best in sports with all of the hall of famers being there and the interviews that First Take could of had.....whats up?
Amy Nelson (10:17 AM)
Hey man, economy is hitting everyone. We're not immune, either.
Cory(PA)
Steelers are going to dominant. I agree with Skip. If that Steelers defense lays a few licks on Kurt Warner, its going to be over. Then the Steelers will easily shut down their run game. Cards have no defense against the Steelers. Steelers will easily win their 6th Super Bowl
Anthony Mazzetta (Toms River, NJ
I never agree with Skip but he is right! The Steelers are going to destroy the Cardnals. I feel bad for people who all think that the cardnals have a chance.
Travis (Athens, OH)
Steelers fans are rather confident, despite a major upset just last super bowl. Be careful...
Chris (jersey)
Amy, good morning, just have to say that LeBron is going to look good in the garden in 09, and there's not going to be any rebuilding, unless you count chris bosh as rebuilding...
Jeremey(Louisville)
Skip, Mo wants to be and deserves to be an Allstar.
Landon(ky)
tell skip hes right the cavs are the best team in the nba
Cory(PA)
Did i just here Kordell say the Cavs are better the Lakers? Excuse me while I laugh so hard its going to hurt my stomach.
Mark (nj)
The Cards will win because of WHizinhuts familiarity w/the enemy. He knows the QBs strengths & weaknesses. He seen the D-fense every day in practice. He knows whats up & what to expect. Be afraid steeler nation, be very afraid.
Mixi (Hollywood)
The Cavs are the team to beat Skip, you know it! Give them their props.
Amy Nelson (10:23 AM)
I'm am seriously in shock that Skip was able to give teh Cavs credit...
Rob(Savannah, Ga)
Amy please inform Kordell and Jay that yes Whiz did compete in practice with Dick, but that also means that dick competed in practice with coach whiz too doesnt it? meaning that this is a non point its a wash.. its been a few seasons since they were together so its time to see both get to work
MJ, chicago
Amy please tell me that you guys are having the dunk contest again. I enjoyed it tremendously last week.
Amy Nelson (10:24 AM)
MJ, what's up? How's retirement...actually this week we are skipping it until next week. I guess there is so much super bowl talk that we don't have time. I'm bummed, I had fun. I also think that it's cool to have you guys add a dunk that we miss...
larry bronx new york
Kordell is correct when taking about the coaches playing very important part in this superbowl...look at what happened to the Raiders when Gruden left for tampa only to destroy the Raiders in the superbowl that same year
Jose (Mexico)
Polamalu is going to teach Fitzgerald a big lesson on Sunday
Amy Nelson (10:26 AM)
That should be intersting...Jose, you didn't happen to go to USC did you?
Cory(PA)
Mike Tomlin played for William & Mary? Really. Wow, all news to me.
Mixi (Hollywood)
This William & Mary coach, I think he's smart. Tomlin's gonna win.
Mike(Royal Oak ,MI)
If Skip won't admit that Mo Williams is Lebron's Robin, who would Skip be Batman or Robin?
Amy Nelson (10:26 AM)
He's the joker.
Noel (Peru, IN)
Funny how everybody hates on Big Ben about playing bad in the Super Bowl. If leave out that the Passing game was a be key in the first 2 playoff game that year. Led by Big Ben!!!!!!!
Sir Varge, New York
Amy, why is the weather in New York so crappy?
Amy Nelson (10:27 AM)
Because weather on this coast is the worst...
Glendon (ALA)
Amy, do you know when Stephen A. Smith will be stoping by the show again?
Amy Nelson (10:27 AM)
Sorry I don't...
Bo (Tampa,Fl)
Big Ben is the second best QB behind Brady because he wins!!! Brady in his first few years did not put up 50 TDs but he always won. Ben is doing the same thing. Ben also is clutch, which cannot be measured.
Mike (Connecticut)
Tomlin's a nice man and he will win a Super Bowl in the future, but it's gonna be a Cowher effect. I'd take Whisenhunt in my foxhole...but not by much.
Pete (NC)
Living on the east coast has killed me this week. Have stayed up until 1:30 to watch Roddick and the Bobcats the last two nights. Stupid sports!
Paul (Indianapolis, IN)
Even though Kurt Warner's numbers are on par with players like Aikman and Jim Kelly, he really needs to win this Sunday to be a solid Hall of Famer. Right now he needs 2 more seasons like this one to pad his stats to be a solid Hall of Famer unless he adds another Super Bowl title Sunday.
Shawn (East Lansing, MI)
When will someone talk about Mike Tomlin, an African American, making it to the super bowl as a coach and Raheem Morris getting a head coaching gig, seems like a good trend to give more opportunities at the head coach position.
Amy Nelson (10:30 AM)
I think it's not as much of a story now because Dungy was the first, and they are hiring more black coaches. That's just my guess...
Paul (Indianapolis, IN)
Tomlin will have to win Two or more Super Bowls to pass Cowher on the Steelers top coaches list because right now Tomlin is winning with Cowher's players. If Tomlin brings the Steeers to the Super Bowl 5 years from now with his guys then we can say he is a great coach.
Sgt. Williams (Grand Rapids, MI)
I find it funny how we are asking the question of whether or not, Kurt Warner is a Hall of Famer, but the man is not done playing yet. He still has about 2-3 seasons left in him and if he stays with the Cards next season, his passing stats is going to get even better than they are now. Kurt Warner will be a first ballot Hall of Famer. This season has him the discussion, but next season will seal it for him because he will then have thye passing numbers to go with his awards and championships.
Travis (Athens, OH)
Well, Dungy and Lovie. Let's give them both credit.
Adam, Georgia
I believe Skip Bayless may be the most arrogant man I know. He believes everything he says is the right answer, and listens to nobody else. He never played in the NFL, NBA, or MLB, the athletes he argues with has.
Tim (Sparta,NJ)
hey amy how's it going? I also think that Pat Tillman should get some recognition for the Cards getting to the suoer bowl. I was just thinking about that last week. Also, what do you think about the Torre book/comments and do you think the Yanks will win it all this year
Amy Nelson (10:32 AM)
Don't think Yanks will win it all and I think the Torre book isn't as sensational as everyone is making it. Buster Olney did have a good point in his blog yesterday because he said that Torre is basically being hypocritical when Wells was fined after his book.
Amy Nelson (10:33 AM)
By the way everyone, I'm no Twitter now. Twitter.com/amyknelson I'll be updating and looking at comments for chat too, and next week i'll post the dunk contestents.
Amy Nelson (10:33 AM)
I'm running an experiment to see how many people Twitter. I know RIck Sanchez uses it for his show on CNN, so if it works for this cool.
Landon ky
i think kurt warner is a hof he has taken two teams who were terible to a super bowl, he can make any team a playoff team!
Mixi (Hollywood)
I was somewhat disappointed with Torre's book idea here.
Travis (Athens, OH)
Adam, Skip doesn't really come off as the arrogant type. Rather, he seems to be very stubborn and won't change his opinion unless proven wrong. It's an admirable trait we both seem to share, haha.
Jeffrey (Sioux Falls, SD)
Why does everybody always seem to get on Skip for everything? I happen to agree with him on many issues. Lebron is a great player, but if he wants to be Jordan-like, he's going to have to start being clutch when it counts!
Amy Nelson (10:34 AM)
I thnk his nature and his delivery sometimes overshadows his very good points.
Adam, Georgia
Skip needs to get over himself. He doesn't know everyting, listen to other people and take in their perspective also.
Bo (Tampa,Fl)
Adam from Georgia needs to chill out. Skip is entertaining!
Jason, PA
I am aYanks fan, but i agree in a way about them winning it all this year. They have a habit of bring in hired guns and then the guns shooting blanks.
Amy Nelson (10:35 AM)
I'm curious how Girardi will manage.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Interesting that you aren't picking the Yankees with their off-season additions, Amy. So who do you like to win it all? I mean it won't be Red Sox Nation, will it?
Amy Nelson (10:36 AM)
No, have yet to make my predictions (which are always terrible, it must be because I know nothing about baseball). I think I'll just steal Keith Law's thsi year. I like to see as many teams in ST before making picks.
JeremeyLouisville)
Twitter. Never heard of it.
Amy Nelson (10:36 AM)
I haven't really figuerd out if it's worth it, but Rick Sanchez's show uses it so well and people seem to be on it so I figured why not?
Mike (Kingwood, TX)
Skip is just like any sportswriter. On certain things he is very knowledgable and right, and on certain things he is a complete moron and wrong. I'd give anything to be able to debate college football with him sometime. I'd shread him.
Bo (Tampa,Fl)
Cato June!!!! I'm so glad the Bucs signed him a couple of years ago. I still can't believe they actually fired Gruden, and the team is probably just now getting used to it.
Bill (Sheboygan,Wi)
I like Skip's dedication and the way he sticks to his guns. HOWEVER he is WAY overmatched by Kordell's knowledge and presentation. Keep it up Kordell!!
Mike (Connecticut)
I'm thinking somewhere along 85-90 wins for the Yankees in 2009 right now...but they will miss the playoffs. It won't be because of Sabbathia or Teixiera, but it will be A-Rod choking, again. And then Skip will then rip at A-Rod going 0-100 in September/October. A-Rod cannot win in New York!
Landon ky
I think the yanks will play better ball than last year but dont think they get worldseries
Adam C, Lakeland Florida
How much is one team going to spend in an offseason? The Yankees are going nuts with spending money and my Rays are staying true to themselves which will lead us to another division title. Sorry Boston and New York
Mark (nj)
Lebrick can compare himself to MJ when: he wins back2back2back titles, quits & plays for the browns, comes back and wins back2back2back titles. Easy Peezy.
Glendon (AL)
Hey Amy, can you send a shout out to Skip for me?
Amy Nelson (10:38 AM)
There you go...
Amy Nelson (10:38 AM)
Is anyone here giong to the Super Bowl?
Russ Nashville,TN
Ia ESPN going to broadcast any Spring Training games this year?
Amy Nelson (10:38 AM)
Yes, I don't know how many but they will
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Do you mean you are 'on' Twitter, Amy? Also, what is Twitter? Will my kids know about it and if they do, should I be concerned?
Amy Nelson (10:39 AM)
Twitter is just a status updatw web site. It's nothing more than letting people know what you're doing. That's it..
Amy Nelson (10:39 AM)
I think you can post pictures, and maybe we'll do that on the account too. I can take action shots of Skip and Kordell,,,
Travs (Pontiac, IL)
why can't i see a live chat on here? the only one i'm able to see live is "Buzz Live from Tampa"
Amy Nelson (10:40 AM)
Because I've been sold out! They put Buzz ont he front page because he's in Tampa. WHATEVER. Soooooo much better over here.
Cory(PA)
I will only go to the SB to try and find a way to break in. Other than that, no
Mike (Pittsburgh)
I am Amy.....bought my tickets yesterday
Amy Nelson (10:40 AM)
How much? Or is your last name Tomlin?
Mike (Kingwood, TX)
Since we're on baseball, I've got a question for everyone here: Who will be the sleeper this year? Every single year a team comes out of the woodwork that nobody expects to do anything, and has and amazing year. Who do you think it will be this year?
Jim (PA)
Going to a Super Bowl is a life goal, but that will not be happening this year.
Travis (Athens, OH)
I'll be going to the Super Bowl when the Bengals play the Lions... ... might be awhile...
Amy Nelson (10:41 AM)
Um, yeah
Mike (Kingwood, TX)
Going to the Super Bowl? LOL. Well let's see....no, I'm not a multi-millionaire, no, I'm not a corporate sponsor, no I don't know anybody playing in the game. Looks like I'm not going this year. Oh well, maybe this will be my year to finally make People Magazine's 'Most Beautiful People' list. They've shafted every year up to now......
Cory(PA)
Mike, there were still tickets yesterday. Really, I dont belive you.
Albert (Jersey)
Amy, I heard a rumor that Skip works out two times a day and has a ripped physique that makes the ladies at Bristol swoon. How accurate is this?
Amy Nelson (10:42 AM)
extremely.
Bronx, NY
Joe Girardi has a major task ahead of him. The easy way to manage it would be to sit A-Rod down with management and Derek Jeter, and solve this "so-called" obsession. Then come to the understanding that the common goal for The NY Yankees has been and always will be about 1 thing, Championships. If A-Rod cant agree to it, let him walk. Release him for selfish pre-madoona and in his case during madonna, egos are not part of the common Bronx Bomber goal
Amy Nelson (10:43 AM)
Dude is never gonna get released. That's just nonesense. None of this will ever be talked about. It's childish, they just need to play
Shane Iowa
WORD Mike!! Yeah, the NFL loves to STICK IT to the consumer. I finally cancelled my NFL Sunday Ticket. As always, the price went up yet AGAIN and I just can't justify paying them that much money. I can go to a couple of games for less than I can to watch them on TV!!
Paul (Indianapolis, IN)
Amy isn't a better question who would want to go to this Super Bowl? This has to be the least hyped Super Bowl in recent memory. Besides the Steelers D or Fitzgerald maybe breaking receiving records, why even watch the game? Its not like it is the Giants/Eagles vs Steelers.
Adam C, Lakeland Florida
Amy, are you going to be in the Tampa this weekend?
Amy Nelson (10:44 AM)
Nope, though i wish i could be!
Laron (San Diego, Ca )
Can we please stop making the Jordan comparisons.. There will never be another Jordan, I like LBJ hes fun to watch but there is no comparison, when you talk championships mvps scoring titles, all while playing in a overall better league in the Jordan era.. Jordan= GOAT
Thayne (Wichita, KS)
Amy, let's really drill Skip on his TRUE football knowledge, shall we?? Ask him to explain the "Cover 2" defense w/out help from Kordell.
Amy Nelson (10:45 AM)
Hmmm, not the sexiest debate topic...
Mike ( Pittsburgh)
1700 a piece for lower level seats
Amy Nelson (10:46 AM)
Wha???????
LaShawn, Bronx, NY
I completely agree with you Amy. If the Yankees just play and A-Rod puts his selfishness aside, the Yankees can become a dynasty for years to come.
Amy Nelson (10:46 AM)
Well I didn't say that. But I don't think they need any more sitdowns or interventions. I just don't know if they'll ever win with both him and Jeter there.
chris (jersey)
amy, give slash my love
Paul (Indianapolis, IN)
Are there any Panther season *cough* former season ticket holders? If a 5 int no show choke job wasn't bad enough the organization is now stabbing their loyal fans in the back during this poor economic times. So sad to be a Panthers fan.
Chris, East Lansing
Bronx: The Bronx is burning. Steinbrenner? Jackson? Martin? Munson? Yankees' goal is championships. Ego is their method.
Landon ky
Skip is kinda moody sometimes he likes at player or team and sometimes he rips on them like no one else!
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
You have to admit, Amy, that sports are making it harder and harder for the real fans to attend championships. It's all about the rich, celebrity types who've never worn a team jersey, never eaten d 'dog with mustard, and never shed a tear when their team lost who are going to these games. It's really disgusting.
Amy Nelson (10:48 AM)
i'd admit that, for sure.
Hayden (Marietta, OH)
Just let Lebron's career pan out. We are giving him an all time ranking and he's only 23, let's talk about his rank all time 10 years from now
CW
I know it is difficult for you guys to watch the Australian Open and Tsonga vs. Verdasco is not on you radar but Seerena's match was awesome. She displayed her championship mettle today. I know you'll talk a lot about the Super Bowl, and Joe Torre but Serena is a worthy discussion, even though her press conference was boring. Watching Tsonga-Verdasco right now and it is awesome. The best reality TV on the tube. Godd Morning.
Amy Nelson (10:49 AM)
Totally true. was watching it last night and it was fun, But I love tennis so I'm always game to watch.
Amy Nelson (10:49 AM)
Can't wait for Federer and Roddick
Aaron (Pittsburgh, Pa)
Has Kordell forgotten that the Steelers have the number one defense? That loss to Arizona was early in the year last year. The Steelers have improved greatly since then.
Shane Iowa
Being a Yankees fan has been more than frustrating the last few years. I compare them to my favorite NFL team the Redskins. They buy big name offensive players or skill players so they can sell more jerseys and get more revenue without addressing the real problem. The Yankees have finally addressed it which was obviously pitching. The Redskins have not and probably will not address their's which is the offensive and defensive lines.
Bo (Tampa,Fl)
I understand those that say Warner is not a HOFer, but he has a Super Bowl ring, this is the third time he has been, and he should be a no brainer if the Cardinals beat the Steelers.
Craig (Buffalo,NY)
The super bowl is less hype this year because everyone is east coast bias. That's why everyone is now just is realizing that Fitzgerald is a great WR. C'mon people.
Jon (Tallahassee, FL)
There is no way you can call Kurt Warner a hall of famer. Think about the quarterbacks in the hall of fame for a minute. You got Johnny Unitas, Joe Montana, John Elway, etc. Can we really put Kurt Warner in their category? They guy lost his starting job TWICE!
Mark (nj)
I personally like watching the DRAFT more than the SUPERBOWL. Call me crazy, but I think most would agree with me. Take a poll.
Amy Nelson (10:51 AM)
um, you're kidding right?
Thayne (Wichita, KS)
Amy, is Skip paying you to protect him from tough questions?? I seriously bet he can't explain the "Cover 2." If he can, I'll be astonished.
Amy Nelson (10:52 AM)
no it's just a boring question. i don't want to watch that do you?
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
I like tennis on the Wii. Other than that, not so much.
Amy Nelson (10:52 AM)
boo!
Tim(Central Fl)
I agree with Johnny from Scranton. It's ridiculus. You're playing for a bunch of rich people and a few lucky people who were able to somehow finnagle tickets.
Jason, PA
Yes he sis lose his job twice but won it back. If he wins this year..he is in. He has the numbers, rings, and MVPS. What elese more does he need
landon ky
hey amy tell skip hes crazy kurt is a 1st ball ot hof!
LaShawn, Bronx, NY
Championships are won on the field your right Amy. In terms of them winning a Championship with both DJ and A-Rod, you do have a point. Before A-Rod DJ and the Yankees won 3 Titles. After A-Rod arrived, not only did the Yankees not win the Title, but history has been made not good history for the Yankees. First, an over 80 year curse was broken by our most hated rivals The Boston Red Sox, and this past season, not to make the playoffs. Unacceptable, and all of this with A-Rod here. Big Worries.
Paul (Indianapolis, IN)
As a life long Yankees fan i love having a team that will do whatever it takes to win and always look to improve. Now that we have corrected out pitching staff with a young ace in CC and a young great bat in Tex we will have a strong roster for years to come.
Hayden (Marietta, OH)
Kurt Warner is a Hall of Famer. If he doesn't make it then alot of quarterbacks in the future don't deserve the Hall of Fame nod.
Cory(PA)
Amy getting heated. Better watch yourself Thayne
Mike (Florida)
G'Day Amy(I am practicing my Australian lingo for the Aussi Open)
Cranston (Dallas Tx)
Its not even a debate and i know Skip is going to say another ridiculous thing 3 super bowl appearances 2mvps...HALL OF FAME
Jason, PA
What????? The draft over the Super Bowl. Thats got the be a joke.
Amy Nelson (10:54 AM)
Has to be a joke. HAS to.
Bob ,Latrobe,pa
No more talk about yankees.Don,t bring up Favre,Manny,Cowboys, etc.they get enough exposure.this is the biggest week in football, maybe sports.give kudos to the cardinals and steelers
Amy Nelson (10:55 AM)
But are people into it?
Brian MD
Warner is a famer b/c 2 league MVP's SB MVP, all of his passing yards, TD passes...also, has there been another qb that has been cut by a team, not wanted by any other and then signed again all after winning sb's and mvp's?
Mike (Kingwood, TX)
Warner didn't 'lose' his starting job per se. He was brought in as a backup type, seen as being in the twilight of his career. If you had just drafted Matt Leinart in the first round and spent umpteen million dollars on him, what would you have done? You've got to give the umpteen million dollar boy a chance. Of course, that was the wrong choice, because Warner was superior. But, at the end of the day, if he wins Sunday, he's in for sure.
Nick Phx, AZ
Amy with people talking about Kurt what about Ben? If he wins sunday with anohter terrible game what will history say about him 2 rings bad games?
Travis (Athens, OH)
Hasn't it reached 130 degrees at the open, and here it's sub 30? Pick your poison: Deep freeze or broiler. Oy.
Amy Nelson (10:56 AM)
Broiler, any day of the week!
Travis (Athens, OH)
Hey, I like the draft over the Super Bowl... though my team never makes the Super Bowl, so that may factor in, haha.
Jon (Tallahassee, FL)
Warner never won the starting job back in St. Louis (beaten out by Bulger) or in NY (Eli). Those are the two times he lost his starting gig.
Ed, PA
Everyone is talking about Edgerrin James being fresh and a key in Arizona having a shot at beating the Steelers, but I think Willie Parker will dominate and help Pittsburgh control the ball and the clock to keep Warner & Co. off the field.
Rich, Pawtucket, RI
Big Ben is DEFINITELY an Awesome leader With all the hits he's taken this year + the concussion & he's still hanging in there.
H.J. ( Tampa, FL)
Amy, why isn't Jay Crawford and the gang down here in Tampa covering the Superbowl? They were in Phoenix all week last year, and Miami the year before. What gives?
Amy Nelson (10:57 AM)
I know man, a lot of people asking that. Budget cuts here at the WWL. It's sad...
Amy Nelson (10:57 AM)
Guys don't forget I'm twittering away now ... twitter.com/amyknelson
Craig (Buffalo)
Amy, Explain to me why every NBA game in Jan. matter? Hopefully you guys will realize soon that the NBA doesn't matter the week of the Super Bowl or in Jan. at all.
Adam C, Lakeland Florida
I think Joe Montana is the greatest clutch performer in football ever
Travis (Athens, OH)
WWL? Is that like the WWE minus the steroids?
Amy Nelson (10:59 AM)
You could say that ... you know World Wide Leader, as sometimes we're otherwise known as...
Mike (Kingwood, TX)
I don't think Willie Parker is going to be a huge factor because the best part about Arizona's defense is their linebackers. They have been GREAT in the playoffs. However, I look for Ben to have a good game for 2 reasons: Redemption (lousy game first Super Bowl) and Arizona having a lousy secondary.
Jesse, Acworth
Every game matters? If you lose a game in Jan or Nov its a loss, and losses are what keep you out of the playoffs.
chris (jersey)
amen craig
Ed (Port Arthur, Tx)
Mr. Stewart let him have it
mike (pittsburgh)
yea unreal expensive, got them on StubHub.com but its worth it to watch the Steelers to win their 6th Superbowl and surpass the Cowboys and 49ers
Johnny (Nj)
Kurt Warner = Right place right time. St. Louis had Bruce, Holt, Faulk and D#. Arizona has Fitz, Boldin, Edge and D#. What was he doing before the NFL? Baggin' food at the Super market? What was he doing before he found Arizona? Nothing in NY. RIGHT PLACE RIGHT TIME!
Paul (Indianapolis, IN)
Amy, why did they skip over you? That is a shame because i'm sure the ratings go up every time you are on tv compared to Jay and Skip.
Amy Nelson (11:01 AM)
Funny, they usually only go to me twice, off the top then after 3rd down. Then at end of show
Cranston (Dallas Tx)
Am I missin out what is this Twitter thang Amy???
Amy Nelson (11:01 AM)
I don't know i just sigend up. It's basically telling people what you're doing whenever you want...I know Shaq uses it.
Mike (Connecticut)
Whisenhunt has a huge advantage! He will lead his offensive minded skills to the top.
Cory(PA)
Mo Williams on the phone...Wish I could give him some piece of my mind
Amy Nelson (11:03 AM)
And that's because...
Hayden (Marietta, OH)
Am I missing something here? Has Rothelisberger ever single handling won a game? All i have seen is a quarterback that's really good at not screwing it up.
Jason, PA
Ok....Then so was Montana, so was Manning....so was Brady. Surrounded by good player so they must have been in the right place at the right time. You have to be thats part of playing the gam and thats why some players never get there. They werent in the right place at the right time
Mixi (Hollywood)
Mike? Are you crazy? Tomlin has the advantage. He's been waiting for this moment all his life and he will become the 2nd African-American head coach in 3 years to win. What his significance will bring is a new breed of head coaches coming in like a Mike Smith or a John Harbaugh or a Tony Sparano.
Chris, East Lansing
The Real Shaq is the greatest Tweeter in Tweetville.
Craig (Buffalo,NY)
Jesse, The NBA in the reg. season is about all the 5 star match ups and seeding for playoffs. Just ask Dallas 2 seasons ago
Travis (Athens, OH)
Mixi, Whisenhunt is from that same mold, just a different side of the ball.
Hayden (Marietta, OH)
Yes but all of those quarterbacks have had game winning drives, Rothelisberger hasn't won a game for Pittsburgh. He just hasn't screwed it up
Jason, PA
Skip would crush Mo Williams
Mike (Connecticut)
Whisenhunt knows what the Steelers will bring, he knows what to expect. The Steelers are predictable! I am thinking this could potentially be a blowout IF the Steelers lose Hines Ward and James Harrison due to injury.
Travis (Athens, OH)
So when will LeBron debate Skip?
Paul (Indianapolis, IN)
Kurt Warner is a highly questionable Hall of Famer. It is easy to be a great QB when you got Holt and Bruce to throw to, then he dipped off but now that he has Fitzgerald and Boldin he is great again. Coincidence?
Jesse, Acworth
Does that did credit Joe Montana as a HoFer because he has the best WR ever to throw to?
Mixi (Hollywood)
OMG, that would be awesome to see Lebron debate Skip...maybe in July that will happen? Or how about have T.O. debate Skip in the future? Now THAT would be fun
Amy Nelson (11:12 AM)
I don't think either of them would show. Leebron maybe, no way on TO
Jesse, Acworth
Or Aikmen who passed behind on the Best OLs ever, had one of the Top RBs a great defense and great pass cathcers.. is he not a HOFer then?
Paul (Indianapolis, IN)
Brown shouldn't apologize to Jon because it is Al Davis's fault that Super Bowl was so one sided. Getting rid of Gruden was his first big mistake of many that lead to the collapse of the Raiders.
Jason, PA
Come on guys....no quaterback is good without weapons. The job of the quaterback is to get the ball in the play makers hands and if you dont have play makers then a quarterback cant thrive
Mark (nj)
Paul is clueless. So by your argument they could just throw anyone back there & win? David Carr, Tim Couch, how bout Matt Leinhart? Yeah I thought so.
Bo (Tampa,Fl)
The Bucs Super Bowl over the Raiders showed that Bill Callahan(?)was a terrible coach if the Bucs defense knew their gameplan that well.
Bryan (Stafford, VA)
We have to get Lebron on First Take. Skip if the Cavaliers win the title will you debate Lebron James the next day?
Will, Chicago,Il
Its funny how Skip can remember that Joe Montana TD in the Super Bowl XXIII and love it but and the play before that Montana hit Luis Bullips in the hand for the potential game losing INT but he dropped it but doesn?t give Eli any credit for the same thing
Mike (Connecticut)
Not true Jason. Quarterbacks can be good without weapons. As long as they know how to elude tackles, they're effective.
Brian (MD)
why callahan never changed the verbage/wordage of his offense before SB 37 always confussed me....did he not think that Gruden forgot all of the signs/verbage of the Oakland offense...and did he WANT to loose the game???????????????the worst coaching job in SB history
James from NH
What else would Kurt Warner have to do for Skip Bayless to consider him a Hall of Famer?
Amy Nelson (11:21 AM)
Not sure...
paul prospect park, pa
your suppose to be chatting with thefolks on here not ust sitting there talking to your girlfriend amy, see this is why you dont know a darn thing about sports
Amy Nelson (11:22 AM)
Ok, you're right. So why don't you stop complaining and say something smart?
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Well if Skip doesn't think someone is a HOFer then it must be true because Skip has never been wrong about anything.
Jmerms (NYC)
Hey, How are you today on this snowy and cold day?
Amy Nelson (11:23 AM)
Cold!
Ed(Port Arthur,Tx)
Sad to say, I agree with Skippy B. although i feel donovan is mobile and physical enough to also have success at the Steelers.
Jesse, Acworth
Apperntly Warners a HOFer is if plays one more good game (But ONLY if that game is in the SuperBowl, because all other games are meaningless.)
Matt (Tempe. AZ)
I hope Skip continues to berate the Cardinals and say the spread should be -10 instead of -7. That way, when the Cardinals win, he will look like a bigger fool than he has proven to be this postseason. Come on Skip, give credit where credit's due.
Adam C, Lakeland Florida
I am a huge baseball fan but im already tired of the WBC because none of the big name players want to play. It's a disappoinment that we can't get them to play
Amy Nelson (11:24 AM)
I hope it will still be exciting this year. Frankly I don't blame players, especially pitchers, for not wanting to play.
Mike (Connecticut)
Ed, are you sure? McNabb may be mobile, but he isn't clutch when needed.
Bryan (Stafford, VA)
I'm sorry but Ben Roethlisberger is a medicore QB. He has benefited greatly from great defenses, great running backs and most of all excellent coaching. He is a product of a system not so much a talented quarterback. Sorry. p.s- This is not because i'm a Browns fan. Go Browns JAY!
Ron (Oakdale, Pa)
Skip ia right on Big Ben,, we haven't had offensive line for two years,, Most other QBs would have been on there back all the time
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
I'd rather players for my favorite MLB team be in Spring Training preparing with their teammates than playing in the WBC. If a key guy for my team gets hurt in the WBC, I will be none too happy (and yes, I know they can get hurt at S/T too but at least it's happening with the team that is paying them to play).
Travis (Athens, OH)
I just don't see why Ben is so great either. I lost count as to how many breaks he caught with lame duck passes in the AFC title game. He makes a living off of the four leaf clover he keeps in his helmet.
Glendon (AL)
Kordell needs to back his crazy train up, there is no way Tavaris Jackson could lead the Steelers to the title. He has potential, but he would throw too many dangerous passes
Chris, East Lansing
When Cliff Lee opted out of the WBC, half of the ESPN discussion board was calling him unpatriotic...a few people even went so far as to compare him to a draft dodger. The WBC is very new, you can't expect it to mean a heck of a lot to American players immediately who already get a global spotlight so many times a year.
Hayden (Marietta, OH)
You put Tavaris Jackson under the system for as long as Big Ben has and he could be just as good as Rothelisberger
Nick (MN)
"Big Ben" has only the 17th ranked passing office, so he is, by no means, doing anything spectacular to compensate for their 23rd ranked rushing game. Both rushing and passing are anemic. His offensive line has problems, but it isn't the lions line that some people want to make it out to be. Without that defense Ben is nothing more than a spectator at the Super Bowl.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Does anyone else find it interesting that the starting QBs for Sunday both did not play high-level college football? Goes to show that you don't have to go to USC, Notre Dame, Texas, etc. to lead your team to the big game.
Mixi (Hollywood)
Hasselbeck in the house. Go ahead and rip the Cardinals. You're a very smart man.
Sean (Kansas City)
To Mike from Connecticut. McNabb is mobile and sure he isn't clutch, but the rest of team them wasn't any better.
Jon (Tallahassee, FL)
Ben has been killed this year with a terrible offensive line and no running game. He's not a conventional Peyton Manning-esque quarterback, but he extends plays better than any quarterback in the league. How about that play to Santonio last week.
Steve, Brockway PA
I think it comes down to predictabilty. The Steeler "D" is very unpredictable. Rush coming from who knows where. "D" linemen dropping into coverage. Steeler linebackers get better drops than most. Ben runs the hurry-up as well as anyone, calling his own plays at the line.
Jesse, Acworth
Why should he play and risk an injury? he has 10s of millions of dollars riding on his arm. He should do anyhting to protct it.
Amy Nelson (11:31 AM)
I really can't blame players for not playing, but i think it's a very tough call.
Derek (Palm Coast, FL)
Amy I have two comments: 1. While Warner did have Holt and Bruce in St. Louis, after he left nobody has heard much from them since. Also, we knew about Boldin and Fitzgerald, but those guys were just good with Matt Leinart, Warner has made them all-pros. 2. How come Skip refers to Pittsburgh as a 14-4 team but as Arizona as a 9-7 team despite the fact they are now 12-7. He needs to let his Donovan McNabb lovefest end and move onto the next game. McNabb's just not into you!
Mike (Connecticut)
I understand Sean. But yeah, I still think McNabb would be better on another team. He's making a mistake staying with the Eagles.
Edgar Chicago,IL
Well skip and kordell were talking about greatest Super Bowl QB moment, and if Kordell was talking about how Doug Williams changed the game by becoming the first black qb to win super bowl but in fact the first minority was Jim Plunkett who was from a Mexican heratige. Two Super Bowls wins XV, XVIII and mvp in XV
J.O. (Camden, NJ)
How about the ACTOR'S BOWL...is it just me, or do we have actors in the Super Bowl Mike Tomlion-Omar Epps Ken Whisenhunt-Woody Harrelson Kurt warner-Tommy Lee Jones
Amy Nelson (11:34 AM)
Btw, great point. I hadn't even thought of that...
Jason, PA
Nice J.O. Good call! Funny stuff.
Will (Tuscaloosa, AL)
Amy, do people ever tell you that you look like/act like Jenna Fischer from The Office?
Amy Nelson (11:37 AM)
Nope that's a first. I have no idea who she is.
James, Ca
Stuck at work, but got this chat to help me thru the morning... Larry Fitz is the man, he offers to take less money to make sure Boldin comes back, He is exactly the kind of player the NFL needs, NFL make him your poster boy!!
Amy Nelson (11:37 AM)
I don't know about you, But i think the tommy lee jones one was the most off...
Amy Nelson (11:37 AM)
Mike Tomlin and Omar Epps is a great call...
Bo (Tampa,Fl)
It is uncanny how much Tomlin looks like Omar Epps... a little creepy too.
Sean (Kansas City)
McNabb would be great on a Steelers type team only having to throw the ball 15-20 times a game maybe 25 times.
Mixi (is on ITunes, Hollywood)
thanks for taking my questions Amy. It was fun chatting with you. Steelers will win, Mike you're wrong. I will confirm it, 24-17 Steelers will win.
Bryan (Stafford, VA)
OMMMAARRR EPPS! I've been sayin it from years. I hate the browns losing to a team coached by Omar Epps.
Dave (Butler, PA)
Slash has lost his mind. Put any other quarterback behind the Steelers O-Line and tell me how many games they win let alone how many times they'd be sacked. Ben's athletic and playmaking ability is unmatched. Without him this year the Steelers are out of the playoffs. Not just anyone can win a Super Bowl with a great defense, you should know best Kordell.
Ed(Port Arthur,Tx)
Hey Amy...J.O. missed one of the look-a-likes. I think Anquan Boldin and Jo Jo(Rev Runs son--Runs House) look exactly alike..maybe AB is the long lost Father. lol
Jason, PA
Way to go McCain. Keep your focus on our economy unlike some other government figures.
Amy Nelson (11:48 AM)
Well whatever he is a sports fan
Kenny Crawford
Amy, dont you think it would be GREAT for sports if the Cardinals pulled this off?
Amy Nelson (11:51 AM)
I think it would be good, but I don't think it's going to be GREAT
Bob ,Latrobe,pa
amy,Igotta question?who are you rolling with?cards or steelers?take the plunge.
Amy Nelson (11:52 AM)
Steelers. ANd with that I'll be back next week, where we'll hopefully have the dunk contest. DOn't forget I'll be twittering ...twitter.com/amyknelson thanks guys
Rich, Pawtucket, RI
Amy, have a Good Week & hope you're back on the main page next week !
