It's sunny and humid right now, but according to the weather services we might see some rain at some point this afternoon or early evening. Let's keep our fingers crossed Mother Nature decides to cut us a break in the Sprint Cup season-finale and keep it the way it is right now. And with that let's get this final race day partaaaaaayyyy started!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:58 AM)
Theproable start and parks today are Joe Nemechek, Michael McDowell and maybe David Stremme.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:58 AM)
At this point, NASCAR has no one going to the back.

We do have the crew chief notes to give you up front today. We'll follow that with our pit road analysis and then we'll update out top-30 rankings....Put on your helmet and Hans device and pull your belts tight...Here we go.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:00 PM)
Richard Petty Motorsports, Greg Erwin, crew chief AJ Allmendinger...Greg says they are not very happy with the 43-car. The track has good grip and they are good on the bottom but they need to be good up top where everyone else is fastest...not as confident in the high line so his times are slower because of that. The are making some chassis adjustments to make it better so he is a bit unsure as to how good the car will be. They have the potential for a really good day if the changes they are making to the car play out right. Favorites are the 99, 14 and 4.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:00 PM)
Richard Petty Motorsports, Todd Parrott, crew chief Marcos Ambrose...Todd says the 9-car is pretty good...its their Texas car...okay off the truck. They struggled in practice a bit at first but they got it more comfortable as happy hour progressed. A top-10 finish is possible. Favorites are the 99, 48, 16 and 4.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:00 PM)
Hendrick Motorsports, Steve Letarte, crew chief Dale Earnhardt Jr...Steve says the 88 is pretty good...pretty decent. Its been a laid back weekend for them. They brought their Texas chassis and has built on that. The car turns good and Dale is happy. The car runs all lines well especially the top where Dale is happiest and fastest. No changes to the 88 this morning. Steve feels like Dale can run with all three of hsi favorites today which include the 9, 14 and 4. They just need to put an entire race together to have a shot to win. The 24 and 48 are just average...both top-10 cars but lack speed. Letarte says the 5 is not good at all...a top-20 car. The 24 and 48 seem to be all over the placeon balance as neither has been able to find consistancy.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:01 PM)
Penske Racing, Paul Wolfe, crew chief Brad Keselowski...Paul says the 2-car is pretty good...theyre happy how happy hour ended. They were way off at the start of the weekend however they made lots of changes and went in a good path. Speed is good as well. They look to finish off the season strong as they need to close out a race strong which they havent done in recent weeks. They have a possible top-5 car. Kurt Busch is not as happy as the 2-team but is still good. The 22 guys are making some changes this morning but nothing major. Busch has a possible top-5 car as well as he has been able to run good up top and was okay on the bottom in practice. Paul favorites are the 99,14, 4, 88 and 2.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:01 PM)
Penske Racing, Brad Keselowski, Driver of the 2-car...Even though they will start fifth, Brad says they were not very good in practice saying its kind of been the story of their season as of late. Brad hopes that will change today. He believes they made some big gains in practice that should apply to the race setup.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:01 PM)
RCR, Luke Lambert, crew chief Jeff Burton...Luke says the 31 is not quite what they want in race trim but not far off. Theyve been leaning on their teammates this weekend and he optimistic Burton can drive up into the top-10. They all feel they have a bit of momentum after coming off a top-five run at Phoenix. The 33-team and Clint Bowyer are the happiest among the RCR group. Bowyer car drives like he needs. The 33 is a solid top-10 car. Kevin Harvicks car is decent...they are concerned about rear grip on exit but are pretty fast. The are having internal issues but Luke doesnt believe that will affect them today. Harvick has a top-10 car. Favorites are the 99, 14, 17 and 4.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:02 PM)
RCR, Slugger Labbe, crew chief Paul Menard...Slugger says the car is just okay..a little loose all weekend. They are making a few changes today and if they work out theyll have a top-10 car at least. This is the same chassis Paul drove to victory at Indianapolis. Favorites are the 4 and 14.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:02 PM)
Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing, Jim Polhman, crew chief Juan Pablo Montoya...Jim says the 42-car is 15th to 20th place car going into the race and is hopeful they can make the right adjustments and make it a top-10 car. They are very aware Montoyas record is not very good here...in his five starts he has three DNFs with his highest finishes are 15th and 17th. The car was decent off the truck and in practice but they missed it in qualifying. Jim called the 1-car of Jamie McMurray really bad, really ugly. The 1-team is testing stuff for 2012 as they had nothing to lose points-wise. Favorites are the 14, 4, 99 and 17.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:02 PM)
Stewart-Haas Racing, Tony Gibson, crew chief Ryan Newman...Tony says the 39 is a pretty good car however Ryan underdrove it in qualifying...they had a top-10 car in race trim. They made adjustments this morning to add rear grip. He expects the trackto be much different today than it was yesterday...the grip will change and the weather will play a factor as we go from day into night. Tony says you can look at the speed charts and the 10-lap averages but doesnt take a whole lot of stock into it due to the track changing today. As for Tony Stewart...during their debrief last evening, Stewart felt he had a 6th to 10th place car going in. They will need to make adjustments during the race however Tony feels Stewart will have a car good enough to challenge for a top-five or a win as Tony has been driving on a whole other level. Favorites are the 99, 14, 4, and 88. He felt the 5-car of Mark Martin looked good on the long run.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:02 PM)
Roush-Fenway Racing, Jimmy Fennig, crew chief Matt Kenseth...Jimmy says they struggled in practice as the balance was all over the place. Also, they were slow on their race runs in practice. They have been getting help from their teammates to make it a top-5 car...going in he feels like the 17 is a top-10 car. This is the same chassis they used to win at Charlotte.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:03 PM)
Roush-Fenway Racing, David Ragan, driver of the 6-car...David told us this morning hes pretty happy with his car...good in race trim...good speed...drives good. They are making some small adjustments this morning. He feels like he has a top-10 car for sure going into the race. We asked him who looked good out there and David said his teammate Carl Edwards is - quote - the heat. Among the cars he was able to run near, he felt the 43 looked fast and the 29 and 56 looked decent as well.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:03 PM)
Roush-Fenway Racing, Greg Biffle, driver of the 16-3M Ford...Greg is excited about his chances saying he believes he has a great car...a top-five car in race trim...close to being one of the fastest in race trim. Greg told us he has a least a top-10 car and all of his teammates are the same, very fast, all with a shot at at least a top-five finish.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:03 PM)
Roush-Fenway Racing, Carl Edwards, driver of the 99-Aflac Ford...Carl says as far as looking at the practice times where he was second fastest in the first practice and fastest in Happy Hour...he says that was all qualifying. He said they were focused on race runs in P1 and had a tire issue the second practice and only made two runs. It did work out great, though. Carl said he was hoping to start in front of Tony Stewart but the pole is a gift. He says he likes the speed in the car and having their choice of a pit stall will be key. Following the Nationwide Series race Carl said it was a very good practice for the Cup race.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:03 PM)
Michael Waltrip Racing, Martin Truex Jr, Driver of the 56-car...Truex is very happy with the NAPA Toyota as he starts second. Truex says they have a lot of speed in race trim and he likes the balance of his car. Treux felt he let one slip away last year at Homestead as he led 62 laps before a flat tire ended his chances to win, but he still finished 11th. As a team theyve made huge strides toward the end of the season especially on the mile-and-a-halfs were they struggled mid-season. He has a top-five car and perhaps a shot to win.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:03 PM)
Red Bull Racing, Kasey Kahne, driver of the 4-car...Kasey really likes his car in race trim as well as qualifying trim as he will start forth. Kahne says they made a lot of changes in happy hour to try and hot on it and they got it pretty good at the end. He said the car is pretty solid...a top-five car for sure with a shot to win. Kahne expects the 99, 14, 16, 17, 18 and 48 to be among the strongest cars.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:03 PM)
Red Bull Racing, Brian Vickers, driver of the 83-car...Brian is not as happy with his car as Kasey is with his but still pretty good. Brian says they do have some work to do Sunday. Brian reminds us its been a couple of seasons since he has been here and that the track has changed a good bit in the last two years.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:04 PM)
Red Bull Racing, Cole Whitt, driver of the 84-car...Cole says he was pleased with his qualifying lap...he starts 29th. He told us at Phoenix he felt he had a car that could finish in the top-25 and he came home 25th. Here at Homestead Cole says they are not going to be as tame as they were in Phoenix. He says they held back a lot. Sunday he says he will race for anything they get.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:04 PM)
Joe Gibbs Racing, Joey Logano, Driver of the 20-car...Logano is not very happy with his car. In qualifying he needed more grip as he will start 32nd. He says they havent had enough speed and still have some things to figure out. Joey admitted they are not very fast in race trim either.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:04 PM)
Joe Gibbs Racing, Denny Hamlin, Driver of the 11-car...Denny starts 10th and said that he had a decent qualifying run. Like Logano, Hamlin said they struggled for speed in practice as well and they couldnt figured out where to find it or where to get it. He says he has learned some things from running both the Truck and Nationwide Series races that may help him get up to speed faster Sunday.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:05 PM)
Joe Gibbs Racing, Kyle Busch, Driver of the 18-car...He said the car wasnt bad in qualifying...the balance was pretty good but, like his teammates, are looking for more speed. He says he is happy with the car in race trim so he believes they can race with the competitive cars with what they worked on in race trim.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:05 PM)
Wood Brothers, Donnie Wingo, crew chief Trevor Bayne...Donnie says the 21-car is just alright. They spent most their time in qualifying trim. The balance is good and speed is good so he feels like they have a top-15 car.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:05 PM)
The pit road at Homestead-Miami Speedway has four openings and let's see who's pitting where for the Ford 400.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:06 PM)
Pit Road Report - Segment 1... Pole sitter Carl Edwards took the first pit and that will be big advantage today and behind him in stall #2 is J.J. Yeley who's likely to get lapped and will leave Edwards in even better shape. In pit stall #3 is Brad Keselowski, who qualified fifth. That's in front of the first opening and on the other side is outside pole sitter Martin Truex, Jr. in stall #4. Paul Menard is in stall #5 and right behind him is David Gilliland, another car likely to get lapped and give Menard a nice entry. Denn Hamlin is in pit stall #7 with Gilliland in front and T.J. Bell in back. Hamlin will have great in and out all day. Regan Smith is in stall #9 and gets a good exit with Bell in front of him and a good entry because Mike Bliss, the slowest qualifier is right behind him in stall #10.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:06 PM)
Pit Road Report - Segment 2...In back of Bliss is Marcos Ambrose. He's have a good out with Bliss in front and with a struggling Joey Logano in back of him should have a good in all day too. In pit stall #13, which is front of the second opening, is eighth place qualifier Greg Biffle. He'll have a great in, but he might have to be careful about being ready to exit as Logano is coming in. On the other side of the opening in stall #14 is Kasey Kahne. He's in marvelous shape with the pit opening in front and behind him in stall #15 is start and park of Joe Nemechek. That's also good for Tony Stewart in stall #16. He'll have easy out and behind him is Landon Cassill. He also gets his cars and engines from Hendrick Motorsports so I'm sure they took that stall to protect Tony. Kyle Busch is in stall #18 with Jeff Burton in #19. Those two could spend some time racing around each other. Burton gets a greak because behind him in stall #20 is start and park of Michael McDowell.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:06 PM)
Pit Road Report - Segment 3...That's really good for Jimmie Johnson in stall #21. A start and park in front and the third pit opening to his back. On the other side in car 22 in pit stall #22 is Kurt Busch, who qualified fourth. Behind is Travis Kvapil so Busch is in great shape. Kvapil should get lapped pretty quickly and that will also help Clint Bowyer in stall #24. Mark Martin is in stall #25 with Trevor Bayne in #26. That could be a little bit of a traffic jam. What will help Bayne is the fact that in back of him is Geoffrey Bodine in stall #27. He'll surely get lapped pretty quick and Bayne will not only have a nice "in", but he can pit short in his box to give him more room to get out and around Martin if he has to. Kevin Harvick is in stall #28 and gets a break with Bodine in front and Casey Mears in back in stall #29. Not bad for a guy who qualified 21st. In stall #30 is A.J. Allmendinger.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:06 PM)
Pit Road Report - Segment 4...Behind Allmendinger in stall #31 is David Reutimann and Allmendinger is not in that great a shape for a guy who qualified 12th. In back of Reutimann in stall #32 is David Stremme a possible start and park and, if not, a car that will get lapped early so that's good for Reutimann and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. in stall #33. Junior's in great shape with Stremme in front and a pit opening at his back. On the other side of the opening in pit stall #34 is teammate Jeff Gordon, who's going to start seventh. Jamie McMurray is behind him stall #35. Gordon should outrun him all day so he's good in and out. Bobby Labonte is in stall #36 with Ryan Newman in stall #37 and David Ragan in stall #38. That might be another mini-traffic jam at some point in the afternoon. Dave Blaney is stall #39 and that might help out Ragan and the man behind him Juan Pablo Montoya in stall #40. Brian Vickers is in stall #41, Cole Whitt in stall #42 and Matt Kenseth, as he has done on several occasions this year, has taken the last pit, stall #43 even though he qualified sixth and could have gotten one of the openings a little farther up pit road.

One thing now before we get to the questions..It's that time of year when the folks I work for wonder how good a job I did for all my fantasy racing friends. If you could, it would be really helpful if you could take a few minutes and write about what kind of job you think I've done this year. Please send those to gurusracefans@aol.com
dave (ny)
hows this team gotta pick before fri goin on huntin trip all wkd 99,29,43,48,14,16,33,4
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:23 PM)
On paper that looks pretty good Dave..if looking for a dark-horse, though, I think Truex would be a nice trade for the 43. That team isn't quite sure what they have. I also think 17 for the 29 or 33 might be a step up. I don't think Kenseth has to worry this week about Vickers wrecking him..he got his payback at Phoenix.
smokefan (fl)
Hi Mark, How is 14,4,43,9, and 21? And who do you like for the championship? Thanks!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:25 PM)
14 and 4 should be bad to the bone. But those other Fords aren't exactly setting the world on fire. They are making changes so they could hit it or miss it...As for the championship I like Tony if it really gets into a dogfight..I think he's willing to go where only angel fear to tread..Edwards though has done a great job and he'll make him earn it that's for sure.
John (Cal)
Which combo? 29-56 or 17-31 or 22/24-2....Do you think there's more payback coming between Vickers and Kenseth even tho were on a fast track? How do you think Bayne will do, top 15?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:27 PM)
John in close call over 29/56 I'd say it was the 2 and 22...Again, I think the Vickers/Kenseth deal is done...Bayne might be able to scramble to a top-15..but I think you pencil him in for around a 20th place finish and everything else will be a bonus.
fast eddie (hewitt, mn)
99 or 14, 43,2,33 and 56...seemed like Truex was fast...78 or 21.It's all I've got left, and need to gain 30 points for a 2nd place finish. Thanks for all the help this season Mark!!!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:30 PM)
I've got 99 ranked just ahead of Tony..Carl's record at Homestead is better and he hasn't missed a bit so far this weekend..You know what just a minute ago I should have said Carl will win the championship...The next group I'd go with 56 and 2....21 over 78
Big T (wyo)
Guru, going to miss these chats, can't wait until next year. Really appreciate all you do in getting us such great information. Need to pick between Mears and Blaney will are both of these guys running the whole race? Also please pick ONE from each (21,51) (83,78,1,00) (56,9,31,27) (4,43,16,6,33,5) (14,24,18,11) Thanks again.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:32 PM)
Thanks for the props and how about dropping a line to gurusracefans@aol.com so it can be passed on...I'm hearing both will run the whole race...21...83.....56......4.......14.....and there you have it...from my little mind to BIG T!
Mikey (EG,RI)
Guru, I would like to that you for all of your help this year. I'm in a tough spot... going with # 99, 4, 14, 1 & 00 to keep the big 3... wish me luck !!! Mikey
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:33 PM)
You need to get off McMurray...experimental deal and they are supposedly junk..
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Who do you think will be the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion after the Ford 400?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:33 PM)
I've have Carl ranked one spot ahead of Tony..brain says Edwards...heart says go with Tony.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Do you think that Danica Patrick in 2013 & Beyond will be a Sprint Cup Series Champion?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:35 PM)
I guess anything is possible...but I don't think so mainly because it will take years for her to fully come up to speed to challenge for something like that. That's no knock against her but she's jumping into something totally new and it will take awhile to first get comfortable, then get fast and figure out how to win.
Scott (NJ)
Hey Mark, need on from 14 and 99, two from 2 , 31 , 43 and 56, and one from 21 and 47. Thanks for all your help this season!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:36 PM)

Mike (Nashville, TN)
I had the 14,99,4,00,1 last week and I'm thinking of the 14,99,21,6,16 this week. What are your thoughts? Would love to keep the 4 with the 14 and 99, could add the 21 for cap space and try to fill in another driver. THANK YOU for the insight this season and enjoy your holidays and some time off !!! I'll be back next year.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:38 PM)
The team you have in mind for this week is better than last week's certainly..Look Mike go ahead and add the 21...Dare to be great...it's last race of the season!
John (Korea...South...defintitely South Korea!)
Hey Guru...first want to thank you for another outstanding year of information sharing and very glad to hear your recovery is going well! Would also like to give a shout out to my great friends in Fantasy NASCAR land called the ChromeHorn Survivors!OK Guru...one last time...and this is for all the marbles (at least in our "Survivor" group....it's me againt 2 others for our internal championship...and it's never fun to be last to the "Loser's Lounge" as they're usually dry by then.....OK..in Yahoo format, what's your thoughts on 33 - 43 -9 - 56 (pick 2) and then 27 or 21? Thanks again Mark for all your widom throughout the year and for your support for those of us in the military!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:41 PM)
John thanks for the kind comments...again to you and everyone it would be really nice if you could also pass them along to gurusracefans@aol.com too...I'd go 56,33....27 over 21...and again I thank you for your service. This is the honest truth and you can ask my kids...when we do our devotional every morning I pray for the men and women in our service, especially overseas and their families who also sacrifice so much. God speed to you all.
RJ (LA)
What do you think about the 88's and 2's chances at Homestead? I am favoring the 88 over the 43, how do you see it?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:42 PM)
Junior's actually pretty good and so is Keselowski. I think both are a little bit better than the 43..His crew chief making some changes this morning and he could hit on it, but going in I like the 88 and 2 better.
April Mathis (Logan, WV)
Hi Mark, I have been following and learning from you for 8 years or longer. I won 1st place for the week in fantasy cup for the Talladega Race. I've learned a lot from you, Dear Guru. For today I've got the 99,88,17,14, 4,16,33, and toss up between 6,9,43, 56,or 31. My gut says take the 6 or 43 and trade the 33 for #2. How do you feel about the 33 for the 2 trade, and who should I take for my cheapest driver? Thanks for all of the time you take. I love all of the behind the scenes info, like the garage notes. Have a Merry Christmas and a great break.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:43 PM)
April thanks for the kind words..you made my day...I'd go with the 56 in that first group and I would probably trade Bowyer for Keselowski...Cheapest driver I think Bayne offers a little more upside.
don piatt (KS)

Hi Mark, Thanks for all you do. Here's my team 24 99 4 21 and could you please pick 78 or 00?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:46 PM)
You might want to think about trading Gordon for Truex believe it or not...and that might let you do some things you hadn't thought of yet.
Beth (WV)
Need to make up 20 points How is 99-4-16-6-TBayne...Who do I need to drop or add..Love ya
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:49 PM)
Can you afford another .2 to pick up Burton for Ragan..that might be a way to pick up a few extra points..just a thought..and at gurusracefans I expect quite the love letter from you... :)
88ny (ny)

Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:50 PM)

24fan (fl)
how's 24 today? is he's first win at HMS coming today?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:50 PM)
He'll be decent, but unless he lucks into it I don't believe Jeff will wind up in victory lane today.
Kim (Orlando, FL)
Is Casey Mears a Start & Park for Homestead?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:51 PM)
We were told no. That's all I can tell you Kim.
KARL (HWY 99 COLUMBIA MO)
I AM AFRAID TO PICK THE 99 AND JINX HIM! WHO IS NO. 2? CASSILL OR BAYNE?GOING TO DAYTONA NEXT FEB. YOU?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:51 PM)
Number 2 is Tony I guess. I'd go with Bayne. And yes I'll be in Daytona next February with bells on.
Tom (Saint Paul MN)
Hi Guru, I noticed Cole Whitt had nice speeds during Happy Hour...any word on whether he intends to run a full race today?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:52 PM)
Yes, he will run the full race and as you might have seen in crew chief notes he plans on being a little more agressive than he was last week when he finished 25th at Phoenix.
MOTOR CITY MAD HOUSE (Redford, MI)
1st off Guru Gota give ya some kudos as I'm leading one league and in 2nd with a shot two win in two other thanks to your help! Also won a pair of tickets to next years New Hampshire race in the Upickem league!!! For the last time this year pick one 99,29 pick two 56,9,43,31 and pick one from the 47,21. Enjoy the off time Guru and will see ya next year!!!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:53 PM)
99....56,31...21...thanks for the props!
Paul (Jersey)
How bout the 43 today? Can he hang in there for a top 5 or top 10? He seems like he has a good car although his first practice speed was low. I think he was in race trim though. Thanks for another great year guru!!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:54 PM)
Going in Paul I'd say maybe he's a top-15 type of car. Average speeds in last practice were okay but not great...and you're welcome.
Rick (Hamburg, NY)
First of all Mark, want to thank you for all your help this year! My lineup is 14, 99, 43, 56, 9, 31, 21, 47. I'm going with 99, 43, 56. My question is the 21 or 47? I'm four points in first place but the 2nd place guy has the 2, 4, 6, and 27 in his lineup. I don't like my chances, but who has a better chance of the 21 or 47 to beat out the 6 or 27?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:56 PM)
Thanks Rick, 21 over 47 for sure...not sure he can out run the 6 though..might want to go with 31 over 43...Burton has been top-6 in three of last four races..just a thought.
Rick (Ponte Vedra, FL)
I have one position to fill. Who would you start? D. Hamlin, C. Bowyer, Kurt Bush, Kyle Bush or Jeff Burton?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:56 PM)
I'm thinking Bowyer Rick.
Jethro Bodine (Possum Holler)
Of these drivers, Labonte, Cassile or Whitt, Who can take me to the Promise Land, or will I have to stay in the HILLS?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:57 PM)
Sorry for low buck drivers that's about it.
Bob (Home of the Blue Angels)
Mark, been a great year and your help has put me in the money. Hoping to stay there. Going into today, have the following, 48,99,29,14,17,43,4,9. Any need to go? was thinking of trading 29,43,9 for 24,16,39. See much difference or should I stick with what I've got? Have to go early to fly to Baltimore. Help is greatly appreciated.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:58 PM)
First, thanks for the props Bob...I'd make the trade I think that will strengthen your team a little bit.
Reece (Wadena, MN)
it seems like some of the best drivers always are surrounded by the start and parks and lap cars on pit lane. Do they get paid by the top teams to choose a pit box next to them???
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:00 PM)
Reece...that's one of the little secrets that isn't talked a lot about...it may not be direct cash payments, but teams offer tires and other "incentives" to get certain people picking late to pick around them. It's not talked about but there is some serious wheeling and dealing that goes on..That's why I was surprised at Phoenix Edwards teammmate Biffle took pit behind Tony..not sure about the etiquette of that one.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:00 PM)

eric (wisconsin)
hey buddy, its a big last week for me. please of these four what two would you pick (56, 43, 39, 1) and which 1 ( 21, 78). thank you for the help all year and i cant wait till next year to do this again!!!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:02 PM)
56,39...21 and you're welcome Eric.
Cat/Dawg (Pensacola, FL)
Thanks for the help this year. Will definitely be looking for the email for comments. 2nd in my Yahoo League. Can't beat 1st place but can be champ in Playoffs with right move thin week. Pick 1: 99,29, Pick 2: 39,43,56,5, Pick 1: 78,21. Have a great winter off.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:02 PM)
99 over 29....56,39...21 and you too have a great winter.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
If you do not Chat on Wednesday I wish you & your family a Very Happy Thanksgiving.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:03 PM)
Thanks Chris.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:03 PM)
Thanks Chris.
Paul (Texas)
Game changer time...56 or the 43? season in the balance on this one.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:04 PM)
I'd go with the 56 Paul..He's been good the last month and has strong Homestead record.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:04 PM)
I need to go pick out my team...be right back.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:12 PM)
While I wasn't looking got kicked off..but my team today..14,4,15,56 and 21....and now give me a moment to slowly drop to my knees to pray..lol
Trey Man (Wyoming)
Guru I have to pick either Mears or Blaney. What advice can you give?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:12 PM)
I'd probably go with Mears then Trey.
Martin (VA)
Need two: 29, 39, 2, 18?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:13 PM)
2 and 29
Bob (Home of the Blue Angels)
Quick question...88 better than 39?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:13 PM)
I think Junior is a little better than Newman going in Bob.
Breesy (Texas)
Hi Guru! Thanks for a great season. It's been awesome following you. One last question for 2011 - would you roll with 9 and 6 or 33 and 78? Thanks again!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:14 PM)
Breesy I god with 9 and 6 and you're welcome.
Nick Rolando (Orlando)
Mark, not a fantasy question. Hope you and your family have a Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:15 PM)
Thanks man...and by the way where's my putter?..lol
Garry (Jacksonville, NC)
Guru, big thanks to you for your insight all season. It not only makes the fantasy racing more fun, it makes watching the races more interesting. After looking over your power rankings and seeing some comments, I'm considering a big shuffle from what I have right now. What do you think of 4, 14, 2, 31, and 21?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:16 PM)
Garry thanks for the props and again for those joining late would love for you to write a few lines on what kind of job you think I do to gurusracefans@aol.com .........If the 21 comes through for you and me we could be in pretty good shape. Good luck.
Jimbo (Johnson City)
Guru!I am most definitely sending some email love on your behalf asap-your advice has helped me go from last to having a great shot at second, so thank you! That said, would it be too crazy to load up my top four positions with 99, 14, 4 and 17 and then put a cheapie start-parker ilke McDowell in there?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:18 PM)
Thanks Jimbo and never throw away a pick like that it will always get you beat if if you're pick four finish 1,2,3, and 4...drop the 17 for 16 or 56 and see what that can do for you.
Janet (Ascutney VT)
Hi Mark. What do you think of this team? Do I need to change anything? Thank you for all your help over the years, and have a great vacation.. Hope your hip continues to do great.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:19 PM)
Okay Janet...yes I am the Guru and I can do many things...but reading a woman's mind is something I don't believe I'll ever get a handle on...lol...if you send me your team I'll be on the lookout.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:20 PM)
Only 8 e-mails to gurusracefans@aol.com come on gang you can do better than that... :)
Zipnada (St Paul MN)
Was looking at your team and have just 1 question . . . who drivers the 15?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:20 PM)
oops I meant 14....
Bill (New Hampshire)
You have #15 on your team....did you mean 16 ??
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:21 PM)
Okay...let's try this again 4,14,16,56, and 21...I made sure fat fingers didn't mess it up again..Thanks Bill.
Richard (California)
GURU, I'm thinking you mean 16 not 15. If that is the case it must be true that great minds think alike. Now move over a bit so I can pray beside you.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:22 PM)
You a funny man Richard!
Andrew (NJ)
Is it worth the gamble to use Cole Whitt today?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:22 PM)
Andrew as long as you're content with something around a 25th place finish like he had last week at Phoenix.
Nurse Carol (Bama (Roll Tide!!))
Hey Boo, Thanks for awesome advice this season. I have emailed my letter of appreciation of you. Daring to be great one more time this season ... how about 2 4 6 21 and 99 sound? Take care in the off season, see you in February
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:24 PM)
Thanks Nurse Carol...You're going a different road and daring to be great...that's what I like about you.
Richard (California)
GURU, If you do happen to get a handle on reading a woman's mind, you can do this as a hobby because you will make millions for that information!!!!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:24 PM)
You're telling me lol....again Richard you a funny man.
SBMltdRacing (Bakersfield Ca)
ps-you are what makes this game more special!!!!!but I best not EVER here you run down Jimmie 5x Johnson!!! he he he
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:25 PM)
I hear you brother and Jimmie is a class act period...that's what I have to say about that.
Corey Hodges (Charlotte, NC)
Guru! Just wanted to send my thanks for all the time you have put in to this chat throughout the year. We all appreciate the inside look every week. Would an all Roush Fenway lineup with Cole Whitt be a "show me the money" kind of finale? Thanks!
Dano (Michigan)
Thanks for all the help this season. Who drives the 15?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:26 PM)
I get eight e-mails on the other deal...and 50 Dano on this one...lol....the answer as to who drives the 15 is no one at the moment and shame on my big fat fingers.
Rick (Camp Hill, PA)
Wow, great minds think alike - I have the same team you just picked - question for you - am I best staying with that, or shaking it up, keeping 14 and 4, adding 99, 21 and 00? Which may be best. And best wishes to you and your family for a happy holiday season - see ya next year!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:28 PM)
Reuttiman's a heartbreaker that's all I'll say...Everytime I picked him this year I got burned to a crisp like bacon left the frying pan for 20 minutes.
Janet (Ascutney VT)
LOL. I forgot to put the team in right?? Been a long year.... 14,88,56,4 and 84...
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:29 PM)
Interesting..things is I really had read your mind and knew that was your team, but I wasn't going to let you know that because if I did all the ladies would go crazy over me...Daring to be great Janet..good luck..Need the 84 to finish at least 25th.
Malcolm (North of the Mason Dixon)
Thinking of 14, 4, 16, 56 and 21...good choices? I could pull the 99 on - keep 14 and 4 but would have to drop to 21 and 00. Thoughts? And as always, thanks for your insight all season - happy turkey day!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:30 PM)
I'd stick with what you have Malcolm...say no to drugs and the 00...lol
Mikey (EG, RI)
Sending the email = A Done Deal !!! Happy Turkey Day to you & your family...
Joe (gurusracefans@aol.com )
Rank the double numbers if you would be so kind...22, 88, 11, 33
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:31 PM)
22,33,88,and 11.
Steve (Ames, IA)
Any start and park teams today?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:31 PM)
Nemechek, McDowell and probably Stremme Steve.
Ryan (SLC, UT)
Hi Guru I couldn't decide on 27 or 21 so I'm using them both let me know what you think about this team...99 4 56 27 21 Thanks for your help this year.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:32 PM)
Daring to be great Ryan...need both 27 and 21 to both pull through with top-20s and at least one to go top-15.
Andrew (NJ)
How do you feel about a team of 4, 16, 56, 9, 31?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:34 PM)
Interesting angle Andrew..going for good average across the board team..good luck..no bow-wows there.
Herb (PA)
Guru I have the 99, 14, 17, 48, 4, 56 which other two do I run with them 29, 16, 24 or is there someone I missing?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:34 PM)
16 and 24 Herb.
Lord Rondeau (Indianapolis)
Almighty one - thank you for your help this year! I've somehow managed to crack the top 100 of the overall leaderboard and without a doubt your advice has been a big help!! I'm hoping to close out on a high note, so which one of these squads looks best - 4,14,43,9,31 or 4,99,43,6,31? Thank you once again for your help, I hope the new bionic body parts continue to get better, and can't wait for Daytona!!!!!!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:35 PM)
Your welcome your Lordship...I'd go with the second team or better yet maybe rethink it all together..
Brian (Union, Ky)
saints0211I need a driver from the bottome feeders. I used up almost the full allotment of c drivers. Who do you see sneaking out a top 30 out of Kvapil, T.J. Bell, Stremme, Yeley, or McDowell? Thanks Guru
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:36 PM)
I think Yeley might then be the way to go Brian.
Bobby (Charlotte)
Hi Guru!! Haven't heard from you in a few weeks and really need your help today. Pick 1 from 99 or 14. Pick 2 from 39, 43, 56, & 33. Lastly, pick 1 from 78 or 21. Many thanks for your great help this season!!!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:36 PM)
99...56,33....21 and you're welcome Bobby!
Tony (SD)
Another fantasy year in the books and I'm on the very edge of glory in to of my leauges. So need some help... Hows the 24, 14, 48, 1, and 31 sound in SCC. Also who are the best 2 out of the 39, 2, 56, and 43. Just want to wish Smoke the best today on the way to his 3rd championship!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:37 PM)
Tony ditch the 1 seriously...and as for the second deal 56, and 2.
Bill Scott (Lake Summerset, Illinois)
Hell-o Mark, Which combo, the 29 and 2 or the 16 and 24? Thanks, Bill
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:38 PM)
I'm thinking 16 and the 24 Bill.
Andy (Cincy, OH)
Guru, the 11 & 16 have been big disappointments this year, do you think they will bounce back in 2012? Will you be back next year? Thanks to you and the others behind the scenes for all your help!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:39 PM)
Both teams are of such quality Andy you figure they will bounce back next season..I'd like to be back next year with them that's for sure..and you're welcome.
Frank (CT)
Good Morning Mark, Thanks for all the advice through the season and hanging in there when it physically wasn't fun. Its possible I may need some similar work in the future and I will remember how you handled it. I'd appreciate your advice on my Yahoo lineup, A- 99 or 14, B- 4,39,43,2 and C-47,78. I'm thinking 99,4,2,and 78. What does the guru think? Happy Turkey day and Merry Christmas !
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:41 PM)
Thanks Frank...when you're self employed it's a little easier to work..even two days after a hip replacement..lol...99 over 14...4 and 2...78..and it looks like great minds think alike.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:41 PM)
Thanks Frank...when you're self employed it's a little easier to work..even two days after a hip replacement..lol...99 over 14...4 and 2...78..and it looks like great minds think alike.
JOHN G (VA BEACH VA)
GOOD DAY GURU ANY THOUGHTS ON 29, 2, 4, 56 & 21
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:41 PM)
Pretty decent team John, but think you can do better than the 29.
MOJO (Near Shadybowl Speedway (ohio))
Guru....I sure like the room that Cole Whitt opens up under the cap. I feel I can get 4 top 10 drivers if I take him. Does he have a chance for a top 15? Thanks
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:42 PM)
Again, Mojo plan on him finishing around 25th and anything further up will be a bonus.
Parker (Dover, NH)
Who is a better NASCAR racer Tony Stewart or Carl Edwards?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:43 PM)
Parker...no joke and no fence sitting...Both of these guys are terrific drivers with awesome car control..They are among the elite six or seven on the series.
Rhett (Pickens, SC)
PTF - C drives Regan Smith and either Whitt or Cassill?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:43 PM)
I'd go with Smith and Cassill.
Scott (Wisconsin)
Guru,Thanks for all your advice. Have a Happy Thanksgiving! Do you see anything out of Landon Cassil today?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:45 PM)
He might be able to grab at top-25..maybe as high as 22nd...has Hendrick equipment and every once in awhile jumps up and has a decent day.
BB (Salisbury NC)
Thanks for the help all year Guru. Thinking of the 99-4-16-56-84 to end the season. what you think al mighty one. Have a good holidays see ya at Daytona
Walt 461 (Eglin AFB, FL)
Mark Just sent you an email. Thinking about hanging with the 48,99,17,31 and dumped the 1 for the 21. Your take. I am +22 playing against you for the season. Thanks again for all you do.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:48 PM)
Don't brag on being 22 up on me Walt...you're just one of thousands that beat me this year...lol...just so folks know I trade a bunch of my team every week just to give you folks something to think about. Believe me there are some times I'd like to leave team along but I made trades to fuel the feedback I get.
Mike (Austin, TX)
4-83 or 14-21? Thanks again for all the help this year Guru! Have a great Thanksgiving!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:48 PM)
I'm thinking 4 and 83 Mike and thanks.
Queen of Speed (Indianapolis)
Sorry to repeat if you have seen this, sent this way earlier...but Mark...First thank you so TRULY much for being a die hard dedicated race reporter and committed so much for us fantasy die hard race fans. Especially with the obstacles you have had personally...and you still made it thru for us when you should be just recouperating. Thanks a million! for another great year too! Now...who would you pick for the RACE WIN....Edwards...or Stewart? ONLY OF ONE! I seen the Edwards over by just a smidge...but I need more to decide on one or the other. Thanks and have a great season off!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:51 PM)
Thanks...that would be nice thought pass along Queen to you know where..again,heart has Stewart, but Edwards is the brain pick..So let's be logical this week and go with the 99.
Dan (In)
How does 6 car look today
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:51 PM)
top-15 capabilities Dan going in.
mckenzie (tacoma,wa.)
great season Mark. thanks for all your hard work every week! starting 99 14 16 6 21 . could i tweak a little or go with it?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:52 PM)
Thanks and have a good final week McKenzie.
Kyle (Boston)
From the driver's comments it seems like JGR is lacking overall speed right now. Should we be concerned about using Kyle, Denny, and Joey? Hamlin is usually quite good here and won this race coming from the back, stay away?
nascar fan2 (fl)
24 or 48
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:52 PM)
48
Steve (Pittsburgh, PA)
Guru! You thoughts on 99,48,29,31,78? Should I get the 14 and 4 in there? Thx!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:53 PM)
I don't know how you would Steve but yeah team would be improved by the 14 and 4 being on it or squeezing in at least one.
Mike (Utah)
Mark, It's been an interesting year for sure. Thanks for all the work and effort you put in each week for us. This is the best place to get information before each race. I hope your back here with us again for a long time.
Jo (VA)
Thank you Guru for your efforts and insights every week. Enjoy the holidays!.
Lenny (oklahoma)
Guru,Whats the 99,4,88,6,21 look like?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:56 PM)
Interesting team Lenny good luck..daring to be great my man!
Ryan (SLC, UT)
Thanks! Does Menard have a better shot than Bayne at a top 15 or are they about equal? Seems like Slugger has a little higher expectations than Wingo, plus the 27 ran practice runs. Does the 21 running only Qual laps in practice hurt them for the race? Thanks for all your advice & happy holidays - an email is on the way.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:57 PM)
Yes, I think Ryan Menard has a better chance of going top-15 than Bayne...mainly because he's done it this year and Bayne hasn't.
Kyle (Boston)
posted my question but didn't see an answer, may have gotten lost in the shuffle
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:58 PM)
Give it to me again real quick...getting ready to shut down and sorry about that.
Dr. Dom (pittsburgh, pa)
what 2 should i pick out of dale jr, truex jr, ambrose, keselowski. the guys above me do not have the 88. thanks for all your help
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:59 PM)
The top-2 in my opinion doc are Truex and Keselowski but if you wanted to go with Junior and go a different road I think that's a decent risk..
Susie (Birmingham)
I was thinking about the 99 14 56 31 21 what do you think and who do you have on your team to day?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:59 PM)
Susie the 21 has to come through for the both of us today..my team is 14,4,16,56, and 21.
Steve (Pittsburgh, PA)
Mark, I took the 99,48,29,31,21 and was able to do 99,14,4,31,21 would you with team B?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (2:00 PM)
Not bad Steve..good luck today.
mish (Fl)
2Guru ......I really need four drivers who can come in top 10. Was thinking 99 14 4.... need one more sure thing. Who do you go with 17 48 or 29?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (2:01 PM)
I'd go with the 17 Mish.
Mike (Michigan)
Thank you for all the great help this year. I never make my picks without reading your chat. I have the 99, 14, & 4 with 33.4 to spend. Posibilities are 6
Mark "Guru" Garrow (2:02 PM)
I guess I'd go Bayne and Burton Mike.
Pam (Atlanta)
Hi Guru! Quick questions- who do you think will perform better today? Gilliand or Whit? Also, who would you rather have- Biff and Stremme or Ragan and Whit? Thank you!!!!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (2:03 PM)
I'd probably go with Whit over Gilliland Pam..then Ragan and Whit because Stremme may be a start and park.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (2:07 PM)
Folks I've been on for over two hours and need to shut down the final race day chat of the year..It's been great and I appreciate each and every one of you...Again please if you get a chance drop a line to gurusracefans@aol.com so we know what kind of job we did this year. That would be much appreciated..After that I don't know really what to say other than I wish each and every one of you and your family and friends a great holiday season and my you all have safe travel...Since hip replacement I've lost 38 pounds and I plan on doubling that by Daytona so there will hopefully be a lean mean fighting machine on the line when we chat again from Daytona...Thanks again for a great year...now instead of limping to the exit...with a nice little jog I head to the door and really sad to say it this time...."The Guru has left the building!"
