The weather today in Dover is "monster" good with zero percent chance of rain and the temp hovering around 70 throughout the race. Sowith that little bit of good news...let's get our race day partaaayyy started!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:30 AM)
Checking out the scorecard this week, A.J. Allmendinger is in the #47 replacing Bobby Labonte. Also of note Kurt Busch should be ableto get on and off pit road quicker today. After replacing a tire changer last week, four more members of the

NASCAR does not have anyone going to the back.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:30 AM)
The potential start and parks today are Tony Raines, Joe Nemechek, Josh Wise, Reed Sorenson and Michael McDowell.

Goodyear, on both the right and left side, are running the same combination they ran at Dover in June and in both races last season. It was also used earlier this year at Kentucky.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:31 AM)
Joe Gibbs Racing tested before this race with Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, and Matt Kenseth. Meanwhile, back in May for the June Sprint Cup race, Stewart-Haas tested with Tony Stewart, Ryan Newman and Danica Patrick along with Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing duo of Jamie McMurray and Juan Pablo Montoya and Casey Mears.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:31 AM)
Pit road at Dover is one of the toughest and tightest the teams have to deal with all season. Not only are the pit boxes packed in goodand tight, but there is no run off area to the right as driver exit the pit lane because there's inside wall for the the frontstraight away. That means drivers are always in danger of getting clipped or hit as they pull out of their pit boxes and get up to pitroad speed. There are two openings between pits 9-10 and pits 16-17 which is just after the start finish line. From there on back, thereare no more openings. If you'd like a visual to follow along with my pit road analysis go tohttp://www.jayski.com/news/races/2013/story/_/page/29-Dover-2013-NASCAR-Sprint-Cup-Series-Pit-Stalls
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:32 AM)
Pit Road Segment One...The first pit stall at Dover is huge and pole-sitter Dale Earnhardt, Jr. has it and once again Joey Logano took thesecond pit, this time after qualifying 11th. The likely lapped Casey Mears, who qualified 26th, is in pit three and that will help on exitBrad Keselowski, who's in pit four after qualifying sixth. Paul Menard qualified 21st and is in stall five and right behind him the sureto be lapped Travis Kvapil in the sixth pit. That helps out the exit of Kevin Harvick in stall seven after he qualified 12th and moregood news because behind him in stall eight is the likely to get lapped David Ragan, who qualified 27th. That will also help fifth placequalifier Aric Almirola in pit nine and he has the added bonus of a pit road opening to his back. On the other side of the first pitroad opening is third place qualifier Ryan Newman.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:32 AM)
Pit Road Segment Two...Behind Newman, in pit 11, is 28th place qualifier the likely lapped David Gilliland. That will help Ricky Stenhouse, Jr.in stall 12 after he qualified 15th. In back of him, the sure to be lapped Cole Whitt, who qualified 33rd, which also help the man in stall14 Martin Truex, Jr., who qualified 10th. His brother and sure to be lapped Ryan Truex is in back of him using stall 15 and that helps outJamie McMurray as well in pit 16 after qualifying seventh. He's got the second and final pit road opening in his rear view mirror when hegoes up on the jack and on the other side is fourth place qualifier Carl Edwards in pit 17. Jeff Burton qualified 25th and there's a chancehe'll stay on the lead lap, which could create a problem on entry for Edwards if at any point he gets ahead of "Cousin Carl". A.J. Allmendingeris in pit 19 and things could get a little congested between him and Burton. Helping out Allmendinger is the fact the start and park ofJosh Wise is behind him in pit 20.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:32 AM)
Pit Road Segment Three...With a start and park in front of him Juan Pablo Montoya, after qualifying 13th, has the sure to be lapped DaveBlaney in back of him so he's in super shape if he runs as well as he did in the spring. After qualifying 16th, Jeff Gordon is in pit 23with Blaney in front and the start and park of Joe Nemechek in back of him so he's in great shape. Nemechek in pit 24 will also helpout Denny Hamlin in pit 25 after he qualified 18th. Meanwhile, behind him another start and park with Reed Sorenson using pit 26. Thatcuts Greg Biffle, who qualified 19th a break. He's in pit 27 with Sorenson in the front and the sure to be lapped Landon Cassill in stall 28.That will benefit Kyle Busch as well. He's in pit 29 after qualifying 14th and in back of him, using pit 30, is the sure to be lappedDavid Reutimann.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:32 AM)
Pit Road Segment Four...Behind Reutimann in stall 31 is Clint Bowyer, who qualified a disappointing 23rd. But he's got a great pit todaywith Reutimann in front and the sure to be lapped Timmy Hill in pit 32. That's also a benefit on exit for Marcos Ambrose, in pit 33 afterqualifying 24th. After qualifying 29th, Mark Martin is in pit 34 and in back of him in pit 35 is the sure to be lapped J.J. Yeley. That willhelp Martin on entry IF he stays on the lead lap. Jimmie Johnson will and he's in pit 36 with Yeley in front and Brian Vickers in back of himin pit 37. Vickers qualified 22nd and if he remains on the lead lap that will make the pit situation a little tougher for "Five Time". ThatVickers picked that pit is a little bit curious and might mean MWR has a little problem with Hendrick Motorsports or they want to mess withJohnson because you're about to see how teammate Kasey Kahne who qualified 12 positions worse has a better pit. Now, pit 38 is the sure to be lapped and likely start and park of Tony Raines, which will be very beneficial to Kahne in pit 39 after, again,he qualified 20th. Behind him is the start and park of Michael McDowell so Kahne is in great shape on entry and exit. Kurt Busch is install 41 after he qualified ninth and behind him is the sure to be lapped Danica Patrick. That also helps the outside pole sitter MattKenseth took pit 43, something that he likes to do practically everytime he gets the chance.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:32 AM)
I think the drivers with the best pit stalls at Dover today are Dale Jr., Kevin Harvick, Aric Almirola, Ryan Newman, Ricky Stenhouse, Jr.,Martin Truex, Jr., Jamie McMurray, Carl Edwards, Juan Pablo Montoya, Jeff Gordon, Denny Hamlin, Greg Biffle, Kyle Busch, Clint Bowyer,Kasey Kahne, Kurt Busch, and Matt Kenseth.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:33 AM)
Time to pull the belts a little tighter, we're about to go green with our crew chief notes.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:33 AM)
RCR, Gil Martin, crew chief Kevin Harvick...He said they're pretty happy after practice yesterday and felt they got better in the secondpractice over the way they ran in the first one. They found some stuff in happy hour to help the car drive a whole lot better, and pickup some speed. He's very optimistic about today. Kevin made some long runs and they were happy with that. This is also the samechassis they won with at Charlotte. He figures they have "at least" a top-10 car. His favorites are anyone in the Chase.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:34 AM)
RCR, Luke Lambert, Crew Chief Jeff Burton. Luke said practice has been a bit of a challenge. They have made big changes based on their teammates set ups. Their biggest issue has been turning in the center. Luke says theyre cautiously optimistic they can get a top 15. As for their teammates, Kevin Harvick has a top 10 car with good speed while the 27 of Paul Menard was goodearly during practice Saturday but not very pleased in happy hour. Overall the 27 is pretty decent, a top 15 car going in. Lambert favorites are the 5, 29, 20, 18, 15 and 88.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:34 AM)
Hendrick Motorsports, Chad Knaus, crew chief Jimmie Johnson...He said they have at least a top-10 car. The car was a little tight in andloose off which is typical for Dover. This is the same car they ran in the spring. Jimmie is happy with the car because he can put it anywherehe really wants to go, run whatever line he wants. He said their fuel window is 80-85 laps and he was happy with their fuel mileage. He saidall the Hendrick cars are about the same, but the 88 has the best track position so he might have a little edge going in. He didn't haveany real favorites, but said if you have a top-10 car you have a chance to win.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:34 AM)
Hendrick Motorsports, Steve Letarte, crew chief Dale Earnhardt, Jr....He's pleased with the car in race trim. They were a little bit tightfor a few laps and then the car seems to come in for Junior and it has good speed. I think we have a top-5 to winning car. We're reallyhappy with what we have today. He said the 5 and 24 are both decent and have top-10 cars. All of the Hendrick cars are much better here thanthey were in the spring. He said the 5 and 24 need a little bit better balance, but are pretty good. His favorite 48,88, 20, 18 and 2...Hethen went a little deeper with some other guys he thought could run top-10 56,5,24,29,99, and 16.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:34 AM)
Richard Petty Motorsports, Todd Parrott, crew chief Aric Almirola...He said they were really happy with the fifth place qualifying run, butthey weren't happy with their car in race trim because it was too tight. We are making some changes this morning that will, hopefully, help.He said Aric loves the place and that will help psychologically. He said that Aric was more optimistic than he was. Parrott thought theywere a 15th to 20th place car going in.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:34 AM)
Michael Waltrip Racing, Chad Johnston, crew chief Martin Truex, Jr....He said the 56 has good speed and the balance is decent. We are fightingtight center off, but are okay. This is an older chassis so they know what to expect from it. Martin is happy with car and feels likethey can run with the leaders-at least a top-10 car, possibly a top-5. He said the 15 was decent too and a top-10 car. Clint seemed to be happy typically runs well here. The 55 has been struggling a little bit with their balance. The speed is okay, but Vickers has only about a top-15car. His favorites the 20, 18,2,48,5,and 29.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:34 AM)
Michael Waltrip Racing, Brian Pattie, crew chief Clint Bowyer...He said the car was okay, but wished they would have been better in qualifying. They're starting 23rd and he's very concerned about starting back there because they expect it to be very tough to pass. Thespeed and balance of the car is okay and feel like we're a top-10 car going in. His favorite is the 2 car then the Hendrick and Gibbs cars.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:35 AM)
Furniture Row Racing, Todd Berrier, crew chief Kurt Busch....Speed wise the 78 is 10th to 15th at best going in. It's too tight in landingin turns 1 and 2. They are making changes this morning that will, hopefully, help the car. This is pretty much the same story as theyexperienced in June. They learned from it during the race and, hopefully, will be able to make it much better as the race plays out. The entire pit crew, except for the gasman, has now been changed and using the Brian Scott Nationwide team over the wall guys. That wasKurt's main concern here the last time because he was quote "afraid to pit". His favorites 18,48, and 2.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:35 AM)
Penske Racing, Todd Gordon, crew chief Joey Logano...He said for the 22 it's been a challenging weekend. They haven't been as fast as theywanted to be. As they worked on the balance they ended up too tight after happy hour, but they know how to loosen it up for the race. Still, it should be a top-10 car at least. The 2 car is good and one of the five best cars going into the race today. He said it has goodspeed. Keselowski is determined and focused. He also said Dover rewards Brad's driving style - smooth and methodical. His favorites the 5,88,2,48,18,and the 20, who he thought really didn't end happy hour that strongly but would be up near the front when it was over.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:35 AM)
Roush Fenway Racing, Scott Graves, crew chief Ricky Stenhouse, Jr....They're optimistic about today. Their practices this weekend have beenmuch better than they were in June, when they finished 13th. The car has decent balance and speed wise they're okay. On the lap tracker theywere, on average speed, a top-10 car. He thought a top-10 was possible if they go through the day trouble free. He said Ricky could run thelow or high line comfortably and that was encouraging. This is the there third race together at Dover and reminded us both finishes were top-15.As for the 99 he's the happiest of the Roush guys going in. They are making very little changes today. Edwards has a top-10 car, at least, going in. He though, again, Edwards was happiest Roush guy then the 17 and the 16. Biffle has struggled a little bit this weekend. Theyneed more speed with Biffle fighting tight in the center. He said the Roush cars in general were off a little speed wise from say the 18and 48.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:35 AM)
Joe Gibbs Racing, Darian Grubb, crew chief Denny Hamlin...He thought the 11 was a top-10 car. He was optimistic they could fight there wayto the front because they have a good long run car they can pass with. He said the balance was a little tight, but that was typical Dover. The 18 has been back and forth on the balance all weekend, but the speed has been really good. Kyle's happy with the car and feels likeit can run top-5. The 20 is the happiest among the Gibbs drivers. The 20 is really fast. They've been chasing the balance a little bit,but overall are very happy. Kenseth has a top-5 to a winning car. His favorites the 48, 2, 22,18,20, and 56.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:35 AM)
Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing, Chris Heroy, crew chief Juan Pablo Montoya...He said Montoya was probably a tenth to 15th place car going in. Witha couple of good changes they can make it a top-10 car. They were tight in practice, but long run speed was good. The 1 car is similiar tothe 42 in set up, but seem to be a little better than the 42 speed wise. Jamie seems to be very happy with his car. The 1 has a better shotat a top-10.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:36 AM)
JTG-Daugherty Racing, Brian Burns, crew chief A.J. Allmendinger...He thought their car was pretty good and felt good they could have a decentrun today because this is one of A.J.'s better tracks. He's been happy about the speed in the car. The only thing they're worried about isfuel mileage. He feels they are a potential top-15 car going in. His favorites 48,18, and 56.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:36 AM)
Stewart-Haas Racing, Steve Addington, crew chief Mark Martin...They have struggled a little all weekend. They've made some small changes fortoday in hopes they to find a little more speed. He said the balance is decent, but the speed just isn't there right now. This is the samecar Tony won with in the spring and they've thrown everything but the kitchen sink at it, but they haven't gotten it to work for Mark.He did remind us, though, the car wasn't great in the spring for Tony but they had the right strategy and made the right changes and gave him a chance to win and he did. The 14 is a top-15 going into the race in his opinion. Newman has been back and forth on the balance duringSaturday practice. They're hoping they finally got it right. They are also making some changes this morning they hope will help. Speed wisethey are definitely better than the 14 and feels the 39 is a top-10 car.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:36 AM)
Stewart Hass Racing, Matt Borland, Crew Chief Ryan Newman...Matt said the 39 has decent speed but was tight during practicebut still thinks they will be okay. They are not making too many changes this morning. After practice Ryan felt pretty decentabout his car. Overall, Matt said they maybe have a top 10 car.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:37 AM)
Next up our race day top-30 rankings.

Now, let's get to some questions.
Maria (Lost today!!!!!!!!!)
Please pick one team, thanks in advance kind sir........56-39-5-18-2-18-24-20.............48-39-11-99-2-18-78-20..............48-39-11-88-2-18-24-20...........48-47-24-88-2-18-78-20.........
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:39 AM)
I'm assuming Maria...the the first team has two "18s" and one of those is suppposed to be "48" and if that's the case that's the team I'd go with.
RAY GORDON REID ( willminhton de 19801)
AT 11.20 AM Y;ALL LETS GET READY FOR THE GURU
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:40 AM)
Thanks my friend.
Sara (SoIll)
Morning Guru!! This week I have 24/48, 18/22/78/88 and 13/17. I only have 1 start left with the 18, 2 on the 88 and 3 each on the 48 and 17. I don't mind using someone up I just want to make sure I use them at the right time. Need to DTBG!!! Thanks Guru!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:42 AM)
Sara, I'd go with 48...I can see saving a start for the 18..and go with 88 and 22...and I'd go with the 17..If Allmendinger is in the "C" group you might think about him to save a Stenhouse start...And we all need to DTBG!:)
Dawn (Franklin Wi)
G'Morning Guru! I hope you are having a great day at the race track. Hope the weather is sunny & bright. I thank you for a;; your help this season. You are one of the best! I have this team for this week
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:43 AM)
Thanks Dawn, but I can't read your mind on the team...lol
ed (coach)
How many more races does AJ Dinger run this year. If only 2-3 more I might exhaust one of my final 2 starts today and save Stenhouse for later.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:44 AM)
Ed, at this point and it's obviously subject to change Allmendinger is set to run this race, next week at Kansas and the season-ending race at Homestead...That's the official deal right now..
Robert (Seattle)
Trying to decided between 18, 78, 88 & 99. Leaning to 18
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:44 AM)
I rank the 18 the best in that group as well Robert.
Al (Seattle)
Good morning from the left coast, guru. What do you think of this lineup for a FOX league? 48, 2, 16, 18, and 39?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:45 AM)
I'm not a big fan of the 16 today. He'll be decent Al, but I think you can do better and might want to rethink that...maybe the 39 as well.
TC (Ohio)
Here is my team would you make any changes? JJ, Gordon, Jr, Jamie Mac and Matt Thanks for all of your advise
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:46 AM)
I know Jamie McMurray is running well..has a great pit stall today as well...but he scares me because his past record here is ugly.
April (Logan, WV)
Good morning Guru, need some help. 39 or 1? Plus, I'm thinking about dropping the 5 for the 56. The 5 has burned me too many times this year. Do you think that is a good trade? thanks
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:48 AM)
April, it's a close call but I'm going with the 39 mainly because he needs it much more, is hungrier..I'd trade Kahne for Truex..not just because of the "burn" factor but I think Truex is the best of the MWR cars and is top-10 or better.
Jeremy (Sweden)
Ryan Newman starts 3rd, will he finish up front? Thanks.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:48 AM)
I like Ryan to finish 8th to 15th today. He's good, but not great.
KARL (COLUMBIA)
VICKERS OR HAMLIN? THANKS FOR YOUR HELP~ I HAVE A FEELING KENSETH WINS AGAIN! TOO HOT TO HANDLE! GO 99! ( A BLATANT HOME TOWN PLUG)
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:49 AM)
I would go with Hamlin today. He took an injection in his back this week and it feels really good and the car has pretty good speed. I think 11 is faster than the 55 and has a better pit stall on top of that.
Mikey (EG, RI)
Guru, I'm staying with the team that gave me 189 pts. last week & took me from 4th to 2nd... # 20, 48, 18, 55
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:50 AM)
Don't have a fifth driver their Mikey and I'm not pumped up about the 55 this week.
Rob (Ann Arbor)
Well GURU my DTBG:{ turned bad with the 5 so this week I need to make up a little. I have a preliminary team of the 48-18-2-55-47. May trade down the 2 to the 24 and up the 55 to 31. Do you think the 31-55-47 can be top 12-15?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:51 AM)
Rob, I'd stick with the 2..I'd trade 55 for the 11.
Dave (Motown)
Guru, having a hard time picking: DTBG or play it safe? DTBG 48-18-20-55-11 safe(r)? 48-78-88-55-22 I don't wanna be a guber what do you think?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:54 AM)
Dave I think the first team is stronger than the second one...
fast eddie (hewitt, mn)
I have 1 use of Jimmie Johnson left. Do I use him here or Martinsville? If I use him at Dover, who do I use for Martinsville? I have 1 Allmendinger left. Do I use him here or wait for his other 2 races at Kansas or Homestead?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:55 AM)
Fast Eddie..the Johnson call is a toughie...I guess he'd be more of a favorite at Martinsville...I'd save Allmendinger as well.
Randy (Du Bois, Pa.)
Hi, Mark. Ill make this easy: 2 or 5? 29 or 48? 11 or 22? Pick one: 39 55 1 42 43? Thanks for help..
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:55 AM)
Randy...2...48...22...39...and you're welcome.
jacob (Pa.)
Hi, Mark.. Do you think the 22 will be ok for the race since he won the Nationwide race? The 1 has been good lately will he be able to keep it going? Thanks
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:56 AM)
Jacob, I think Logano is good for a top-10 and it will be his fourth in a row on the "Monster Mile".
Dru (Ind.)
Hi, Mark.. The 5 has had some trouble here and the 24 has done good here.. Do you think it would be ok to keep the 24 and trade the 5 for the 2 or 56 or 22? Or should i think about trading the 24? Or should i keep both? Thanks
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:57 AM)
Keep the 24...trade the 5 for the 2.
Spencer (Ky.)
Hi, Guru. 56 or 5? 24 or 22? 1 or 55? Pick three: 48 99 88 16 29 20? Thanks for info.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:57 AM)
56 over the 5 Spencer...plus 24 over 22..1 over 55...48,88, and 20.
Brenda (Clarion , Pa.)
Hi, Mark. Pick 5 best: 39 99 43 2 78 1 56 29 42 18 14 55 17? Thanks
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:58 AM)
18,2,56,29,99
Tyler (Pa.)
Hi, Mark. 78 or 2? Hope you have a good race.. Thanks
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:58 AM)
Tyler I'd go with the 2 and you're welcome!
Dan (MA)
Gordon a good bet today? His times over the long run looked good in practice.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (11:59 AM)
I think he's top a guy who can finish 3rd to 8th today Dan. He's good but not good enough to beat 48.
Matt (VA)
Guru I have one start left with the #48. Is today the day to use it?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:00 PM)
It's either today or Martinsville..I'd probably hold until then because there are some other really good cars today and Martinsville is a little bit easier race to get through trouble free than Dover.
Ebo Farms (Coleridge, NE)
Leading my league and looking for safe plays as opposed to home runs. With thst in mind how do you rank these 3 drivers: 99, 56, and 22. Finish spot is all that matters for points.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:00 PM)
56,22,99.
BUTTERNUTTS (TN)
Guru-roni,Putting aside some fast Qualifying runs, Mark Martin has done just aabout zilch all season long. A lot of this year for him, reminds me of Darrell Waltrip last years, although not to the same extreme. What is wrong with this situation. He has shown absolutely no promise for today at Dover, and this is one of his better tracks in the past.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:02 PM)
I'm not sure what's going on with Mark..he's been a "click" off all season..simply not as fast as he was last season...hate to say it, but might have finally lost a step..As for the Toyota engines they feel pretty confident TRD has solved the big problems and I think the 20 will not play it safe and will go get all they can get.
Jered (Dover, DE)
Guru, thanks for your weekly insight... Will you be at Dover today? Please pick 1 (48,15) pick 2 (39.78,99,22) pick 1 (13,34). Thanks again!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:03 PM)
Jered, our you inviting me to watch the race with you?..lol...48...22,99...13
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
What Current Drivers do you think are the best at Dover?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:04 PM)
Johnson, Kenseth, and Kyle Busch...top my list Chris.
Joeboo (Texas)
Mark in your write up you mentioned that Mark Martin and Denny Hamlin would be two to consider. Given their lack of speed thus far this weekend would you still consider them?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:05 PM)
First thanks for reading the preview...secondly I'm still pretty high on Hamlin, but nearly has pumped up about Martin as when I wrote the preview Tuesday.
Marco (CT.)
Good morning Guru. Need your advice more then ever. In Yahoo " A" , I have the 20 and 48, in "B" group, 18,39,55, and 56, and in "C" , the 17 and 47. I'm thinking of using the 20,39,56 and the 17. I think the 20 and 48 are pretty even and I'd like to save the 48 and 18. Do you think the 48 is much better then the 20? And is the 18 a much better pick for "B" group? Strategy comes into play more then ever as the season winds down. Thanks for the help Mark.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:06 PM)
Marco...48...18,56...17 over the 47...however 20 is right there if you want to save a start...and yes in "B" group 18 is that much better..
Nate (Knoxville)
Last Week I had 20,18,48,11,55. Any reason not to keep this same lineup. Deciding who to cut or just keep on keeping on. What do you think of the 47 or 14 today?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:07 PM)
Nate, I like that team until we get to the 55..I'd trade him for Stenhouse because it's only .1 more..47 will be better than the 14, but not quite as good as Stenhouse in my opinion.
The Birdie King (North Wales, PA)
My team so far: 20-48-15-11-31. will be checking your rankings and crew chief notes, but any thoughts on 31-11 alternatives, as well as if I should swap 20 for 18 like you did in mid-week
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:08 PM)
I think the 17 would be a little safer alternative today than the 31...20 for 18 swap might mean an extra point or two.
Phil-er-up (NH)
Guru, seems tough to handicap this race. I'm looking at non-Chasers like Newman, Keselowski, McMurray, or Montoya as guys that could be sleepers today. Any of them stand out to you? Thanks, Guru.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:09 PM)
First off their Mr. Phil..Newman is not a "non-Chaser" ..secondly Keselowski is going to be really good today.
mark (houston)
Mark, which is better for today 11 & 31, or 17
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:10 PM)
I have them ranked 11,17,31 Mark...great first name by the way:)
peter (florida)
48 or 24 with 2 starts left for 48 and pick 2 (22,56,78,99)thanks as always!!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:10 PM)
I'd go 48 and use his other start probably at Martinsville...22,56 and you're welcome!
Logan (MA)
1 5 24 48 55, how about that team?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:11 PM)
Logan..one thought...get a cup of coffee...rub your eyes again...and focus on a new team my friend:)
the lunt (in texas)
88,22, 55, 20, 39?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:12 PM)
Well, Mr. or Mrs. or Miss Lunt...there's a difference in daring to be great and totally crazy right?...lol..Seriously, I would rethink top to bottom.
Lj (pasadena md)
Good moring Mark , i hav the 48,20,18,2,35....should i change the 35 for the 98? what would the "Great Guru" do? thank you Mark.....Lj
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:14 PM)
See what you're trying to do here...can you bump up to Timmy Hill 11.7 to Josh Wise (10.7)?
Katie (SC)
Mark Martin has always been one of my favorite drivers, but now it's a love-hate relationship. Seems like when I take him he finishes way down. If I trade him, he's near the top. Who do you see as the best bet for the chase-Martin, vickers or Hamlin?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:15 PM)
Katie, if Hamlin's back is feeling as good next week as it is today I'd go with him..I think Denny's back has been hurting him more than people know or he's let on and affected the team negatively in a lot of little ways..but he's got the most upside and I think you'll see that today.
Cheryl (Nashville)
Almighty Guru - please lend me some great advice this week. 20 or 48? 47 or 17? Lastly, please pick 2 from 56,88,99. Many thanks as always!!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:16 PM)
Looking into my crystal ball Cheryl...48 over 20 by a tick...17 over 47...88,56 and there you have it!....oh no...just dropped the ball..
Jeremy (Louisville)
Pick my final driver for me Mark. Who finishes the highest between the 15, 29, 2, 99, 88? Only one! Thanks Jeremy.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:16 PM)
I'd say it was the 2 Jeremy.
GWB (TEXAS)
Mark,pick 2.....11 31 43 1....THANKS
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:17 PM)
I'd go 11 and 1.
John (CA)
So, Jeff Gordon's had two cars that could have won either Chase race so far, if not for a flat tire and overshooting his pit stall. If last week was his mulligan, and the team keeps bringing fast cars to the track, you think he'll be okay? The top-3 drivers can't be top-3 every weekend...
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:20 PM)
I think Gordon is going to be good this afternoon...but I don't know if he's got the muscle to overtake 48,20, and 18. They and they're teams are hitting the rev limiter every week and have definitely flipped a switch that has made them even tougher to deal with in the Chase. Kenseth could very well win for the third time in a row today..Gordon has not shown that ability to lead bunches of laps or go through a race trouble free.
Bruce B (Florida)
@Jake.............I am running 48-78-22-17
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:20 PM)
No bow-wows Bruce.
Kevin (Guru's Shadow)
Oh mighty one, I'm thinking of rolling with 20,48,99,17,47... Your thoughts buddy? As always us true fans thank u for all u do. Lets finish the season strong!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:21 PM)
Kevin, they are the same price so I would take the 2 over the 99...
Budweber8 (Baltimore, MD USA)
Hey Guru, I've been out of country all week and have read zippo about NASCAR until today. Your notes from Wednesday and today are quite helpful. What do you think about 48, 88, 39, 42, 17. I have .5 to play with. Thanks in advance.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:22 PM)
I might take the .5 and trade Newman for the 56...and you're welcome.
Scott (NJ)
Hey Mark, need one from 20 or 48, two from 18, 22, 78 and 99, and one from 17 or 47. Thanks as always.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:23 PM)
48...18,22, and 17 Scott
Al (Seattle)
Thanks a lot. Swapped the 16 and 39 for the 20 and 88.
Kevin (Lexington ky)
Hamlin, stenhouse, Montoya, Martin, allmendinger. Need to pick 2 to finish out my team. Help!!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:24 PM)
I'd god Hamlin and Stenhouse Kevin and easy on the caffeine friend...the house isn't on fire..lol
MJ (florida)
Need some help deciding between 88 or 99
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:24 PM)
I'd go with the 88 MJ..he's really good going into this race today.
Alan (SC)
Almighty Guru!! Thanks for all that you do to help all of us out!! Which lineup will help me extend my lead: 20-88-2-11-17 or 20-48-22-42-47.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:26 PM)
I'd go with the first team Alan.
Lane Kiffin (Wherever I can get a job)
Mark-Do you have any connections in the athletic departments of any SEC schools?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:27 PM)
Man I hope they at least let the plan land before they fired you last night....or at least a "golden parachute"?..get it..lol
Maria (Lost today!!!!!!!)
Actually the second 18 would be the 78.....sorry......:(
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:28 PM)
In that case Maria...I'd go with 48-47-24-88-2-18-78-20
Rich (Florida)
What do you think of 24, 88, 2, 11, 56?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:29 PM)
Interesting team Rich..on balance it would not be a shocker to have all five of these guys in the top-10 when it was over or no worse than 15th..A different road traveled, which gets a DTBG thumbs up!
Jon (PA)
Guru, thanks for your advice last week, went with McDowell and 4 of the studs and had 184 points..........do you suggest the same strategy this week, or shall i mix it up? My team for this week right now is.....39, 18, 88, 78, and 47. What say you great guru?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:31 PM)
Jon, I don't see anyone low enough to pull that off with this week..I'd trade the 39 for the 56..78 for the 22..and then let it rip Jon.
Drew (Fort Myers FL)
Right now I'm 18 78 24 17 31 Should I ditch Kurt and his new pit crew?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:32 PM)
Kurt is running fair...pit crew situation is better...but I like the 22 better.
Chase Beard (Tin Pan Alley)
Need help in Y! 20(4), 48(2) - 18(1), 39(1), 22(6), 56(5) - 17(1), 47(2) leaning towards Kenseth, and A.J but undecided in my B group. Kinda wanted to save the two last starts. Any help, much obliged.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:33 PM)
Given your situation if you don't want to use 48 here and Martinsville then go with the 20..22 and 56..and I'd save Stenhouse and use Allmendinger.
Bill Scott (Lake Summerset, Illinois)
Hell-o Mark, Do you have the 55 rated so low because he hasn't been in a cup car @ Dover since 2011 ? Thanks, Bill
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:34 PM)
That's part of the reason Bill..and the other part is as a group MWR this weekend doesn't have the speed to stay with Hendrick or Gibbs...and 55 struggled a bit in practice yesterday...that's what I was figuring in...he got enough laps in running two Nationwide Series races at Dover this year, that's not much of a concern.
John (terre haute)
24 or 78 today thanks for the help
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:34 PM)
24
Chumpy (Chicago)
Need 2 from this group. 99, 16, 18, 56. Thanks!!!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:34 PM)
18,56
Larry (Maine)
Hey Mark would you pick 2 out of these three 56,99,22, thank you!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:35 PM)
22,56
Bobby (Mpls)
Guru, who between the 17, 14, & 55 would ya go with?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:35 PM)
I'd go with the 17 Bobby.
Paul (Tx)
Guru, Pick one 20/24 Pick two 22/55/56/99 Pick one 13/17. Thanks.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:35 PM)
Paul...20...56,22..17
Luke (Chisago, MN)
Has any driver won 3 in a row? also 24 or 29. Thanks GURU!!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:36 PM)
Yes, but I don't have who has in front of me right now..though..sorry about that...24 over 29 and you're welcome!
Geoffrey (Somerset, MA)
so which one do you think will do better 39,56, or 14
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:36 PM)
56
Ed (Chatsworth, GA)
Guru, what does your gut tell you about Dale, Jr. today? His practice times and qualifying on the pole are impressive although I usually shy away from him because when it comes down to it, he doesn't come through. Is today that day for a top 5 or win?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:37 PM)
I think Junior is going to come up big today Ed and I think a top-5 is in his future.
Walt (FL)
Hi Mark, Your take 18,47 or 2,17 to go with the 48,20,11Thanks for the great chats
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:38 PM)
Walt, I'd go 2 and 17 and you're welcome.
Darrell (NJ)
Need a decent floor pick, would you go Reutimann or R. Truex? Reutimann seems to race decent at the Monster. Thank You
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:39 PM)
I actually think Truex will eek out a little bit better finish than Reutimann Darrell.
Paul (IA)
I'm down to the bottom of the barrel in one of my leagues- is Ryan Truex going to make a full run of it today, or do you think he'll be a start and park? Thanks so much!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:39 PM)
Paul, Truex is not a start and park.
Dan (NC)
need 2 from 11 - 17 - 14 - 55
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:39 PM)
11,17
James (Tx)
What do you think Guru? Always appreciate your opinion. 17, 47, 29, 48 and 18. Any changes you would make? Thanks.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:40 PM)
James with that team I'm picturing 48,18 top-5..29 top-10..17 top-15 and 47 18th to 23rd...so that would be a pretty good score.
carrie (il)
Mark I have 1 start left for the 18 should i use it today or wait. Thanks
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:41 PM)
I'd wait Carrie.
Philip (Ft worth)
Thanks for all the help. Went from dead last after the first week to first place this week. I am think of taking the 48, 2, 20, 17 and 11. Do you see any problems?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:41 PM)
Looks pretty good Philip..good-luck!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:41 PM)
Folks I'm going to take a quick pitstop and pick out my team for today's race...Be right back.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:46 PM)
Okay..for my team I kept 48 and the 20...dropped the 18,15, and McDowell...added 88,11, and 17......now a short prayer "Our father who art in heaven..."
Team Shell (Hawaii)
Guru,Good day sir....20 or 4822,39,78,1647 or 13Thank you sir
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:48 PM)
HELLO HAWAII..BEING SO FAR AWAY I KNOW I HAVE TO TYPE REALLY LOUD SO YOU CAN READ ME...48..22,78...AND 47 MY FRIEND!
TheDuder (Texas)
Super Guru! 48,18,24,31,11 We need a big day. What do you think?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:49 PM)
Mr. Duder...I'm usually a lot higher on the 31 here than I am today...but he always has the potential to come up with a top-15 or top-20...but now bow-wows..so good-luck!
James (Tx)
What do you think Guru? Always appreciate your opinion. 17, 47, 29, 48 and 18. Any changes you would make? Thanks.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:49 PM)
I can live with that team James and you're welcome.
Bill Scott (Lake Summerset, Illinois)
Which group, 39, 5 and 11 OR 55, 22 and 56? Thanks, Bill
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:51 PM)
I'd go with the second group Bill...they should score a point or two more than the first one.
Rick (Columbia SC)
Guru looking at 11,22,48,88 and oick between the 17 and 55 not much cap room left.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:52 PM)
I'd go with the 17 over the 55 and let that dog hunt.
robert (mn)
what is your espn team this week? i'm considering the big 3 with hamlin and the dinger or a more balanced team with jr, gordon, truex, logano and hamlin? which one do u like better?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:52 PM)
I like the first team idea better Robert.
Jeff (CT)
Morning Guru. Scored well last week with 20-18-48-11-55. Considering a change this week to 20-48-2-17-11. Your thoughts? Many thanks.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:54 PM)
I'd either stay put Jeff or trade the 55 for the 47 for the first team...second team should score a little bit better but you need to DTBG.
Jeremy (New Roads, LA)
We have the same team, guess great minds think alike....
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:54 PM)
oh-oh
Nurse Helga (Sunny Fl)
Well hello Mark how are you today? I am vacationing in Sunny Fl due to Alan being on good behavior I can finally sit back and enjoy a race. So help me pick a team 20(1) or 48(3) pick two 56(3), 99(1), 18(1), 22(2), 17(2) or 47(1). Who would you pick? I promise not to use my special tool on you if you give me bad advice. LOL love you:)
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:56 PM)
I do hope Nurse Helga...just in case of emergency..Alan in PA might get of his meds..lol...you still have the "special tool" thermometer on ice right?...:).....as for the team 48...56,22..save the 18...17
steve (driving to Orlando)
31, 1, 43 or 27? Thanks G
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:57 PM)
I'd go with the 1 in that group Steve.
David (Nevada)
I went all out last week and bet $175 on Kenseth at 15/2 odds, thanks to YOUR reports and the posted practice times my bet was a success. This week, the 48 looks dominant so his odds are not very valuable at 13/4. I took Kahne at 14/1, because of practice times and his potential value, also he's due for a win! What do you think?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:58 PM)
Gut reaction...glad you had the winner last week David...because you're not going two for two.
Kesha (Ga-GO DAWGS!)
Why the 17 over the 55?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (12:58 PM)
55 struggling a little pit..qualified poorly..doesn't have a great pit..and 17 feels like a lock to run top-15.
Thomas (Richmond,VA)
Team "Not Revved Up" is back to throw the guru some dap...good call on Mark Martin, not in sync at all. Looked horrible in practices. I'm going with 48-18-78-55-51. Time for a big move in the standings!!!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:00 PM)
Thomas..the 51? For a big move? Really?...don't see it my friend.
Brett (Seattle)
Trying again Guru. With the 18-24-39-48 and the 34 with .07 cash, would you change anything? Thank you sir!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:02 PM)
Brett, I would take the .07 and trade 34 for the 13..or keep the 34 and trade the 39 for the 56 or 22.
Kevin (Tappahannock)
Howdy Guru. Having a tough time deciding. I'm pretty much locked in w/ 48-11-2. For my other three it's either 20-47 or 99-14. Obviously 47 is the big ? mark. Historically Edwards has been GREAT here, and Martin has USUALLY fared well ...but he looks downright awful in practice and starting 29th. What'd'ya think? Roll the dice w/ Dinger? You seem a little down on 99 ...any particular reason? Love your chat, recs, and radio show - thanks for everything!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:04 PM)
Kevin..it's a mystery to me why Martin isn't better going into this race..but according to my buddy Uncle Si..that's a fact jack..so I'd go with the 20 and 47..more upside there than the 99 an 14...and you're welcome.
Cajunbadger (Gretna, LA)
Just giving a big shout out to ya! Do like your team and may it be a huge winner (I picked the same, lol!).
Q (NYC)
I'm looking at 88-56-39-29-55. I don't know if the 29's Happy Hour speeds make me so happy though. I could replace him with the 2 who has least improved throughout practices. And are we (you) expecting a top 15 from the 55?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:06 PM)
I'd made the trade 29 for the 2...I'd take the 11 over the 55...not expecting a top-15 from 55..could get it, but not much more than that.
Brian (Vancouver, WA)
Mark - Love these chats each week. Playing in salary cap league - 20, 18, 2, are my big dogs using the 51, and 13 as more of my value. Based on the $$ I did change the 36 for 51 and the 13 with the 10. Should I stick with the 2 or change for to the 88 or 5? Salary caps makes it challenging! Thanks Mark!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:07 PM)
That's a tough call Brian...If trading the 2 allows you to upgrade the 13 or the 10 I'd do it. If not leave it and hope for the best Brian.
Steve (Ohio)
Mark, Better combo 88 & 39 or 24
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:07 PM)
88 and 24 Steve.
rml (maryland)
Hi Mark, do you think the 29 has a top 10 car? Pick 1...29, 56, 88. Thanks for your help!!!!!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:08 PM)
Yes the 29 has a top-10 car, but I rank the 88 ahead of him.
Sten (Colorado)
Mark, pick 2 from this group. Thanks Guru... 78,22,56,43,39
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:08 PM)
22,56
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:08 PM)
22,56
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:08 PM)
22,56
Tyler (Snow Hill, NC)
Hey G! No questions this week. Field is to close for me to know anything. Just send me some good luck please. Rollin with 20,48,5,51,98 in Nascar Fantasy Live.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:09 PM)
You'll need more than good luck Tyler...more like a miracle!
Doug (Wis)
How's 20,48,18,11,47 on espn team?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:12 PM)
I can live with that Doug...that was my second team and I'm a little nervous about adding Junior..or Kyle..I've got 48,20,88,11, and 17....just took a second to re-check my team...having second thoughts and it's all your fault...lol
Nurse Helga (Sunny Fl)
Oh yes I do have the special tool (thermometer) on ice. It is in the cold hands of my cousin Nurse Greta while I'm on vacation. Like you always say great minds think a like as you picked who I was thinking.
Don (Kenosha, wi)
I have 48 18 20 47 17 this week what do you think?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:13 PM)
That's a team that looks good on paper Don and a lot of people are going to go with.
Russ (Birmingham Al.)
Hows the 48 20 2 11 17 should score well want do you think Guru?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:14 PM)
Russ, I have the 88 instead of the 2...and I keep mulling that over...could be a last minute change...but I need to DTBG!
Norman (MI)
What do you think of the team of 48,20,88,55,11? DO you think I should add the 47 or 17 instead of the 55?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:14 PM)
Yes, I'd take the 47 over the 55.
Jeremy (Baltimore MD)
Going with the #16 #22 #24 #1 and #11. What do you think?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:16 PM)
Wow..that's DTBG..but I'd trade the 16 for the 56,22, or the 5..maybe even the 78...McMurray's got a good car but his finishes have been lousy at Dover.
robert (mn)
besides the 48, 20, and 18...who do think has the best shot at the win? leaning towards kez.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:17 PM)
Kez wasn't even on your list Robert..doesn't matter though because I'm going with the 48.
Max Headroom (Hollywood, Baby)
22,78 or 5? I always like the wheelman in the 78 but what 5 lacks in shear desire, the Hendrick crash truck can probably make up...
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:18 PM)
I'm going with the 22...has been more consistent than the other two with three straight top-10s..5 is a team killer lately..Busch is a "tweener" today..could wind up fifth or 15th.
Jeremy (Forest Hills, NY)
GURU: I can go 48,20,18,11,47 or 48,18,24,11,55 which one do u think this week?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:18 PM)
I'd go with the first team Jeremy.
BG (Texas)
Guru I am torn. 88 or 24. Reading the pit stall posts, the team input, and all the other information you are bleeding. Need a little push. 48,18, (24 or88) 17 and 11. Thank you for ALL the information you give us.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:19 PM)
DTBG BG..go 88 and you're welcome!
Karl (Indiana)
Mark, (Fox Racing) 48 Capt, 20, 18, 24 & 2. I was debating 24 or 88. Noticed you dropped 18 and added 88. Should 88 replace 18? Thank you!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:21 PM)
I wouldn't trade the 88 for the 18..I had to because of salary cap considerations.
Lee W (Morrisville NC)
Oh Great Guru, What say you to the 20, 48, 56, 39 and 47?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:22 PM)
Interesting team there Lee...you have more confidence in the 39 than I do..but there's potential there...good-luck.
Steve (NW AR)
24 or 56?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:24 PM)
24
Chris (Toledo)
DTDG burned me last week. Yea or Nay. 18-48-2-11-47?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:25 PM)
Yea
Tom B (Kissimmee, FL)
Thank you for all your insight and information. Have a great race day
James (Tx)
What do you think Guru? Always appreciate your opinion. 17, 47, 29, 48 and 18. Any changes you would make? Thanks.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:26 PM)
Now bow-wows pressing their cute little noses up against the pet shop window..good-luck.
steve (seattle)
looking for 4 top 10's and a top 20 with lot's of upside from: 2,88,56,24,47. Thoughts?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:26 PM)
Think you have it figured right Steve.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (1:28 PM)
Been on for two hours, so we'll have to wrap it up for our Dover race day chat. I hope that we helped you pick out a great team for today's race and you windup scoring 200 points or more...wouldn't that be sweet? Again, please remember to join us on Wednesday afternoon for our fantasy racinganyting NASCAR chat at 3:00 eastern. Until then, have a great day and a great week.
