Chat with Ramses Barden

Braden caught 18 TD passes in each of his last two seasons at Cal Poly, while finishing with 50 total TDs. This past season, he had six games of 100 yards or more, including a 12-catch, 217-yard, two-TD performance against Southern Utah. For the year, Barden had 67 catches for 1,257 yards.
According to Barden's Scouts Inc.'s draft profile, Barden is "shooting up draft boards thanks to his size (6-foot-6, 220 pounds) and athleticism. While he doesn't have elite top-end speed Ramses does have impressive body control and soft hands. He dominated FCS competition this season, catching a touchdown once in every four receptions, and he showed against Wisconsin (6 rec., 83 yds., 1 TD) that he can hold his own against top competition. Ramses figures to come off the board early on Day 2 but could go as early as the late second round."

Cal Poly wide receiver Ramses Barden is up next!
Steiny (NYC)
Coming from a small school, do you feel like you need to prove yourself more than say somebody from Ohio State?
Ramses Barden (3:06 PM)
I feel as if there is a little bit of added pressure. Most people don't even know where Cal Poly is located. So I'm trying to put Cal Poly on the map and show my skills at the next level.
Nubbs (Big Rock Road)
Ramses, how do you feel you fared at the Senior Bowl, and what teams seemed the most interested in you?
Ramses Barden (3:10 PM)
I think I did well at the Senior bowl. Scouts got to see me play against the rest of the elite players in the country and they saw what I can bring to a NFL club. I talked to almost every team but the ones that showed the most interest were the Dolphins, Seahawks, Cowboys, Ravens, Bucs, and Rams.
Steve (Miami)
What would you tell people about yourself who don't know who you are?
Ramses Barden (3:10 PM)
Good question!
Ramses Barden (3:12 PM)
I would tell them that I'm a complete receiver. I'm a loyal person, I'm coachable, I love to play the game, I work hard at everything and I will go out to play hard everyday. I will do the little things that need to be done.
Vince (NJ)
Have you been in touch with Eagles LB and Cal Poly alum Chris Gocong? If so, what advice has he given you about the NFL?
Ramses Barden (3:13 PM)
I do keep in contact with Chris. He's a smart guy and he looks out for me. The best advice that he has given was, the NFL is a business. I need to take it seriously and treat it like the job that it is to be successful at it.
John Rambo (Surrounded in Afghanistan)
Ramses, what apsect of your game have you been working the most on in preparation for the Combine?
Ramses Barden (3:17 PM)
I've been working on rout running the most. Different people have different approaches to running routs. I'm just trying to learn precision and running each rout like I'm going against the best player in the league.
Josh (Baltimore)
Do you think you can be the next Marcus Colston? What do you think of those comparisons?
Ramses Barden (3:19 PM)
I appreciate those comparisons but I really have a hard time trying to emulate any one player. I look at different players and try to incorporate their talents into my game. He's a great player but I wouldn't compare my game to any one particular person.
Scott (SD)
You mentioned route running. Is it harder for you taller receivers to get in and out of your cuts?
Ramses Barden (3:21 PM)
I don't think it's harder, I just think we have to put more effort into it.
Matt : Segog
Do you feel you may be better suited as a tight end?
Ramses Barden (3:23 PM)
(laughing) Not at all. I have as much ability as you want a play maker to have. I can get down the field and I have great hands. I have all the confidence that I can be the best receiver in the draft if I'm not already.
Ramses Barden (3:25 PM)
With the right coaching, I plan on being the best receiver in the draft. I'm a good athlete and I believe that my skills can really help a team out on the next level.
Ramses Barden (3:25 PM)
Thank you for your time and all the great questions. See you next year but this time it will be on Sunday!
