Hello everyone...Scott is standing by...fire away!
Bobby (los angeles)
Hey Scott, love listeining to you and Tirico every morning out on the left coast, with the Lakers sending Chris Mihm to Memphis, do you think they might be trying to make room on their roster to bring in another player via trade?? Thanks!
Scott Van Pelt (12:32 PM)
Sure...he got in a fight the other day with another player. I think great teams are always open to a short term option that gets them over the hump. Though I haven't heard anything specific about that.
Jack (Philadelphia, PA)
Scott, who is your current pick to win NCAAB player of the year award. For me, its Blake Griffin, but what do you think?
Scott Van Pelt (12:32 PM)
Has to be him. There have been other players that have had moments where they were exceptional, DeJuan Blair's 22/23 night against Thabeet comes to mind, but Griffin has been a monster from start of the season to this point. Gotta be him.
JM (Indianapolis)
Over/Under Manny gets signed to a team in 2 weeks?? Griffey just went to the mariners, could manny go to the indianas?
Scott Van Pelt (12:33 PM)
Cleveland is not paying that much money. I'll say over...I don't think it's happening too soon.
Ashley (SLC)
Why isnt Neil on SC anymore Van Pelt?
Scott Van Pelt (12:34 PM)
He will be again soon. He's part of the SportsCenter LA crew and is heading out West. It's the end of Brock and Chest...but we can all make better movies.
Morgan (Philly)
Come on Scott, who is it. Who's gonna be the National Champion for College Mens Basketball? Pittsburgh?
Scott Van Pelt (12:35 PM)
Without a bracket to work off, I'll say.....
Scott Van Pelt (12:36 PM)
...I'll take Carolina and Pitt. why not. (that has no chance of happening). I guess I'll take Carolina.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Which odds are better: The Vikes sign Jeff Garcia or Tirico throws one down on SVP?
Scott Van Pelt (12:36 PM)
The latter is not happening. Not with a ladder, not with a trampoline, not never. So I guess by definition, that means Garcia to Minnesota is more likely.
Brian G (Philly)
What are your thoughts on McNabb getting an extension in Philly? I like the thought, but I may be in the minority. I don't think Kolb is ready (if he ever will be) and I don't see any other options, what do you think??
Scott Van Pelt (12:38 PM)
The Eagles are McNabb's team until he's done. You saw the second half of that Baltimore game. That's your answer. I don't know, against Arizona I think you saw what McNabb still has, but I understand you also saw things that make you long for something else as well. It's a tricky dance.
I-like-iowa-teams (NE Iowa)
Will Duke make it past the first round?
Scott Van Pelt (12:39 PM)
Again...you need a bracket to know for sure...you'd have to think so. But, I have serious reservations about how many rounds they are likely to survive.
Chris (Boston)
Scott, Is GW going to be able to turn around our beloved Terps?
Scott Van Pelt (12:41 PM)
In the short term, it will be tough. If you mean will they make the tournament this year? It will be tough. If you mean before he goes? I think the answer is yes. He's one of the more competitive people I've ever met. I think he's got one more run in him.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
SVP: How does a team shoot zero free throws in a home game? That PSU-Illinois game set the sport back 50 years last night.
Scott Van Pelt (12:42 PM)
I will be talking about this game at some point during the next three hours. I don't imagine I will endear myself to Big Ten fans when I do. Beyond the free throws, what I want to know is how the 16th ranked team in the country can score a grand total of 33 points in a regulation basketball game. There aren't harsh enough adjectives to describe that fiasco.
rerun (su)
ever taken "boli"?
Scott Van Pelt (12:43 PM)
No but I had a nicoboli back in the day at Rehoboth Beach Delaware. Take a pizza, fold it on top of itself. That's a nicoboli. And that's damn fine eating.
Jay (New Windsor, Md.)
How does JB get two questions posted while I can't get one answered?
Scott Van Pelt (12:44 PM)
JB is a more effective stalker.
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
JB is a regular...we get preference...
woody (queens)
svp what is your nfl mock draft top 5?
Scott Van Pelt (12:46 PM)
It's all speculation at this point...you'll have a much better sense of things after this weekend.
Ashley (SLC)
SVP- do you think Sam Cassell will make it back to Boston in time for a playoff run?
Scott Van Pelt (12:46 PM)
In some capacity, probably.
Matt, Houston
SVP- Do you get tired of hearing Steve Williams? I know he's the most famous caddy in the world, but its not his place to talk about Tigers return.
Scott Van Pelt (12:47 PM)
He's gotten a little more chatty in the last few years. You'll notice he was careful not to say WHEN the boss is coming back. Just alluded to soon...he mouthed off about Mickelson which did not make Tiger too happy. So...you'll notice that Steve will talk without offering much in the way of specifics.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Thanks for having my back, Lisa. Not sure I like being considered a stalker though, SVP.
Ted, The SLC
Better character actor with a more famous acting brother - Clint Howard, or Brian Doyle Murray?
Scott Van Pelt (12:48 PM)
Brian Doyle Murray. Odd question...but I like it.
woody (queens)
hey svp do you think any big names are going to move before the trade deadlines or is it just hanger-ons?
Scott Van Pelt (12:50 PM)
It sounds like the only moves that are being made are salary-dump related. To me this is the most talked about/least relevant topic going. Unless something monumental is cooking on the back burner.
AMR (Cleveland)
What was the worst thing you did as a young and stupid 24-25-26 year old?
Scott Van Pelt (12:51 PM)
Insisted on cooking up three-team teasers...including favorites...every NFL Sunday. Never bet favorites, never bet exotics. But I was young and naive. Even though really I was 28 in 2003. Oh wait, that's not me.
woody (queens)
you talk alot about adult swim do you watch any of the anime and thank you for the replies!!
Scott Van Pelt (12:53 PM)
No, I don't get it. I watch Squidbillies, ATHF, Home Movies, mostly.
Scott Van Pelt (12:53 PM)
There are some other shows that are too bizarre for me to comprehend.
Lebron (Cleveland, OH)
I'm getting Shaq today! Wait, is that good or not??
Scott Van Pelt (12:54 PM)
I think it would be great for US if it happened. Because then it wouldn't just be Lebron and Kobe in the Finals. It would be Lebron and Shaq against Kobe in the Finals. There would be full-fledged ESPN-freakout if that happened.
David Fairborn, OH
Serious question here, does anyone really think 24-26 is young? I'm 24, have a full time job and am going back to school. I know what's right from wrong. What a crock.
Scott Van Pelt (12:55 PM)
Your point makes sense, what is amazing to me is that from 2001 to 2003 is that hte guy was 26, 27, 28. That type of spin is not endearing.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
What nickname would Shaq get if he went to Cleveland? Would it be something like SHAQalier?
Scott Van Pelt (12:56 PM)
That's a fun question...because you know he'd come up with something. Let me get back to that.
Bobby (los angeles)
you really should watch Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law on adult swim, very funny show....
Scott Van Pelt (12:58 PM)
I've watched it some. I can tell it's funny. Just haven't committed the time.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Three minutes to curtain there SVP. Better grab some Sweet Tarts and a Coke.
Scott Van Pelt (12:58 PM)
Good call...I'll see ya'll next time!! And it's Diet Coke.
ESPNRadio.com (12:59 PM)
Thanks for chatting...keep chatting over at ESPNRadio.com, just click Tirico & Van Pelt. Today on the show, JA Adande and Chad Ford will help us with the NBA Trade Deadline...and Peter Gammons and Bob Knight will also stop by!
ESPNRadio.com (1:01 PM)
Hey everyone!
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
OK Frank - starting to get a complex...
ESPNRadio.com (1:02 PM)
Frank is busy now -- webmistress here. Frank should be back soon though.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Who's sticking around to multi-task today?
Mike ((Wichita))
Mystery Science 2000/3000 somehow got forgotten in recent years. Pure gold.
David Fairborn, OH
I like JB but that was kinda stalkerish.
JM (Indianapolis)
is dinner time still at 6 o'clock?
Shaq (cle)
LeSHAQ
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
I purchased my 1st home at 25 years old...I don't know how ARod thought that we would buy the young and stupid routine...
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Well this is the 21st century where 40 is the new 30, right?
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
LeBron in the Knicks in the Finals would be more interesting and could happen.
Jay (New Windsor, Md.)
Did you see the Ovechkin goal? Espy worthy....
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
What was stalkerish, David? SVP has often spoken of his Sweet Tarts & Diet Coke thing.
David Fairborn, OH
I tried to find my musical soulmate on facebook last week but I couldn't.
ESPNRadio.com (1:04 PM)
??
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
Sorry Jay - don't watch hockey...
Bobby (Los Angeles)
I guess A-fraud was in a time warp when he used PED, couldnt figure out his own age
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
Don't forget his love of Pop Tarts J.B.
David Fairborn, OH
Last week non-frank person. Had to be there. I'm sure it will be brought up today.
ESPNRadio.com (1:05 PM)
Ah, my apologies
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Good point on the Pop Tarts. SVP would fair nicely in the Morning Buzz.
ESPNRadio.com (1:07 PM)
Happy Thursday, everyone. Sorry for being late. We were interviewing the Harlem Globetrotters for tomorrow's NBA Today podcast. How goes it?
Marc, Charlotte
If you score under 40 points in a game twice in a season you should not be allowed in the NCAA Tournament, True or False?
corey cullman, alabama [via mobile]
scott, what do u think about this new rule that they are talking about for college football? Taunting?sounds like a headache to me. Your opinion please
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
I would be big as a house if I ate like SVP...
Brian G (Philly)
Shaq makes well over 20 mill next year, can the Cavs even afford the Diesel?
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Still trying to get an answer on the stalker thing from David. I'm sure it was said in jest but I kind of take that stuff seriously.
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
Frank is in the house...
ESPNRadio.com (1:09 PM)
Holla! And the Knicks are close to getting rid of both Jerome James and Tim Thomas! What a day.
Charles Barkley
Big Ten basketball is turribull
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
J.B. just relax - we know that you are not a stalker - a newcomer doesn't understand how our little chat works...
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Good afternoon, Frank. How are you today?
ESPNRadio.com (1:09 PM)
I am well. How are you?
David Fairborn, OH
Oh it just looked stalkerish to me because I can't listen to the radio often in my office so I can't hear the daily phrases n such.
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
I am now 'friends' with Frank on Facebook - all the single ladies need to look him up - he is a cutie pie...
ESPNRadio.com (1:11 PM)
And I didn't even have to pay her to say that!
Beyonce
If you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it...
Brian G (Philly)
Lisa is quite the hype woman
AMR (Cleveland)
Frank, when are the show changes going to take place. Are we losing Terico and SVP all together?
ESPNRadio.com (1:13 PM)
Have no fear! The show will still be on, just an hour later. I'm not entirely sure how the rest of the schedule will shake out, but it will be posted on ESPNRadio.com when the time is right.
AMR (Cleveland)
Thanks, Frank. I'm sure SVP will like the extra hour of sleep.
ESPNRadio.com (1:15 PM)
Who wouldn't go for an extra hour of sleep every day before work?
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Doing OK, Frank. Lost our server for a bit but back in the chat.
ESPNRadio.com (1:17 PM)
Y2K lingers. So what is everyone thinking about the A-Rod press conference now that we've had a couple of days to digest it all?
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Or an extra hour of sleep during work even.
Bobby (Michigan)
I think it was phony personally
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
He would have been more believable without the script in front of him.
Brandon (Spokane, WA)
I'm tired of all the steroid talk.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
I still think his cousin is really Barry Bonds or Rafael Palmiero.
David Fairborn, OH
A-Rod is...to put it nicely, ignorant.
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
I don't think he told the whole truth but he has been more honest than most people...ready to start the season and play some games...
Brian G (Philly)
I think the PR company he hired to "help him sound more credible" is owned and operated by Hank Aaron
Bobby (Michigan)
And if he actually decided to answer more of the questions
Brandon (Houston)
Thought that I heard a lot of half truths in his statement(s)
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
As a Yankees fan, what did you think Frank?
ESPNRadio.com (1:20 PM)
It doesn't all fly logically, but I think you have to give the guy some credit for admitting he did PEDs. Granted, he had the advantage of seeing how Clemens and Bonds responded and what happened to them. Like I said, I don't buy everything he said, but you can't knock on him too much or else no one else will ever come forward. I hope nothing else comes out, because he'll be finished if it does. I think this is going to be the best thing that ever happened to him. My number one complaint with him while he's been on the Yankees is every move he makes off the field seems calculated. Now I think he will be required to be himself and focus on baseball.
Bobby (Michigan)
Scott do you think his press conference hurt or helped him?
David Fairborn, OH
Colin Cowherd was raving about how Vick's speech was done right. I kinda want to see it again to be reminded.
woody (queens)
like in the herd promo mlb's key stars are suspected or are cheaters
Bobby (Michigan)
I wanted to give him the benefit fo the doubt after the Gammons interview, but I think he took a step forward and 3 back
Mike
ARod isn't ignorant or a cheater. What he is, is extremely rich.
AMR (Cleveland)
If an athelete tests positive for a banned substance, should there be criminal charges?
woody (queens)
if he wasn't cuaght he would still be the top baby face of mlb he is nothing more then a glorified jobber
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Yes but Vick was going to jail. I would hope that would humble someone.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Seems like a good crowd in today's chat, Frank. Maybe the Facebook team has helped to improve attendance.
ESPNRadio.com (1:23 PM)
Do work, son!
Brandon (Houston)
He hets credit, from me, for at least owning the fact that he did PEDs. But he gets no credit for going the young and stupid defense. He was 28 for goodness sakes!
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
How about Penn State being on the cusp of making the NCAA Tournament? PENN STATE! Take that, SEC! (To give full disclosure though, I root for Syracuse hoops).
Brian G (Philly)
I agree with Bobby, the Gammons interview made me want to feel kind of bad for him with how all the anonymous tests came out...but then he changed his story and looked awful in the 2nd press conference
ESPNRadio.com (1:24 PM)
Bob Costas had a real interesting take on Mike & Mike this morning. Said he doesn't feel any animosity toward A-Rod, the other 103 names should stay anonymous and the people who leaked his name should be punished.
woody (queens)
this is a cool place to rant
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
I have had a busy Facebook week....
AMR (Cleveland)
I guess it's only cheating if you get caught. How about putting into the contract that you will lose money if you violate the rules. Money is the only language some of these guys understand.
woody (queens)
bud selig worst then vincent kennedy mcmahon
ESPNRadio.com (1:25 PM)
Fun fact: I was featured in a few WWF episodes when I was little.
Brandon (Spokane, WA)
I'd like to know the other 103, so we can move past this "era".
ESPNRadio.com (1:26 PM)
But those 103 people aren't the only other ones who used PEDs. Bonds didn't even fail his test at the time in 2003, but they re-tested it in 2004 and it came back positive for steroids. If all of those samples were re-tested, who knows how much that number of 103 could rise.
Brian G (Philly)
not to mention he was unable to do the math as to his actual age during his supposed PED spree, which makes me think that those 3 years are only a portion of his time using
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Over/under on how man months it will take for people to put this A-Rod thing behind them. I'll go with three.
Brandon (Houston)
Oh yeah Penn State! Thats what I want to see a 38-30 game in the big dance.
Brian G (Philly)
Costas is a genius, and as much as I want to hear the other 103 names...NO good can come from it
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Still haven't ventured into Facebook land.
woody (queens)
you were cool
David Fairborn, OH
Give me a baby face with rosy red cheeks and roids and I bet I'd be rich too. He's ignorant.
woody (queens)
cmon every body know s bud is still an owner
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
That is a fun fact, Frank. I was once in an ESPN highlight from a Knicks/Nets game. I could barely make myself out but it was me.
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
I guess what I find most annoying about the whole steriod talk is how players keep saying that it wasn't illegal in the game of baseball...what about in regular life...they are breaking the law...
Brian G (Philly)
But Brandon, how would knowing the other names help us move past? it would just give more ammo for the media to trash baseball and the players. I think it would do more harm then good...
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
One thing I am taking away from all this. My belief that Greg Maddux and not Roger Clemens was the best RHP of all-time has gotten legs.
Brandon (Houston)
The other names need to come out, so we can at least have an idea of what we were looking at all those years.
Bobby (Michigan)
naming the other 103 would bring a sense of overall closure in my opinion. otherwise anyone who has had success in the recent past, and anyone who has success in the near future will do so with a clean name. I think not releasing those names leaves an overall question mark as opposed to just closing the topic out and moving on with the game
Chris (Portland)
Did anybody see Van Pelt interviewing Tiger last night on the Golf Channel? SVP looked like he was a bout 16.
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
I would rather the other names just come out now...they will eventually be leaked over time and we will continually have to go through this talk...
Brandon (Spokane, WA)
Using " puts " where " should be.... Bad programmers
AMR (Cleveland)
Shh...watch what you say about the commish around ESPN. I agree that Selig is the worst. All of this happened on his watch. For him to just wash his hands of it is just shameful.
Brian G (Philly)
Good point Frank, and that also doesn;t include any of the players taking substances such as HGH, which CAN'T be tested at all...
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
His cheeks are orange though, David.
Bobby (Michigan)
another thought... why doesn't anyone care that these aren't the only players who have ever "cheated" per say... pitchers used to cut balls... spit on balls... corked bats... the list goes on
woody (queens)
look mlb is close to becoming the wwe of pro sports
ESPNRadio.com (1:29 PM)
I mean, is this really surprising to anyone? It didn't take a rocket scientist to see that McGwire looked much bigger in 1998 than he did in 1988. It's ironic that the fans and media "digged the long ball" in the late '90s and early '00s, and now they/we are all trying to punish these same players for the same actions. I'm not saying it's wrong, it's just a very interesting situation for a myriad of reasons.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Brandon: Well like it or not, I think PSU gets in if they don't have a monumental collapse down the stretch.
woody (queens)
expect it's missing the hot chicks
Brandon (Houston)
There is plenty of blame to go around. The majority should go to the players union for resisting drug testing for so long.
woody (queens)
well who can forget anna benson
Bobby (Michigan)
A corked bat can be tested to prove just how much of an advantage it gives it's users... Sportscenter actually tested it a few years back...but no one can really say how a certain PED or HGH affects a specific individual
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Bud Selig will go down in history as the worst commissioner in MLB history. I wish I had his job.
Mary (Ann Arbor, MI)
I want to know what is happening to Tricio and Van Pelt when Cowherd goes from 10 - 2 next month.
ESPNRadio.com (1:31 PM)
I answered this earlier, but it is worth repeating. Tirico & Van Pelt will still be on the air, but it will start an hour later. No worries. When the schedule is set, it will be posted on ESPNRadio.com.
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
you better watch out J.B. - you might end up getting suspended...
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
For Bud Selig's next brilliant move, all World Series games will be held at Miller Park.
Chris (IL)
J.B. what do you expect Bud Selig to do?
woody (queens)
nah gary bettman is the worst big cheese in sports today
woody (queens)
no no no larry hughes to the knicks it's all wrong
ESPNRadio.com (1:35 PM)
The Knicks need guards (Duhon, Nate the Great and Roberson are the only active ones on the roster - Q-Rich is a swingman), so I'm all for it. I've never liked Tim Thomas and we all know how big of a joke the Jerome James signing was. He's played in four games for a total of 7.5 minutes over the last two seasons.
Brian G (Philly)
Don't you think it's more then unions fault then Bud's? I am not saying he is completely innocent of blame, but he doesn't deserve all of it...
Mary (Ann Arbor, MI)
Sorry late to chat. Slow computer
Brandon (Houston)
Baseball, under Bud Selig, is in danger of slipping below the NHL in the national sports scene.
Chris (Tucson, Ariozna)
What seed does Arizona get in March? How impressed our you with the face stomp winning streak?
Bobby (Michigan)
how about Griff back to the M's as the feel good baseball story of the week?
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Chris: For starters, he shouldn't have mentioned suspending A-Rod. Stupid. As for what he already has on his resume, a tie AS game, making the AS Game decide HFA in the World Series, and turning a blind eye to the PEDs issue in the past is a good start.
Rob Moore (Springfield,VA)
Thanks for making me laugh during your show...I make sure I have time to listen to your show from start to finish...thanks
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
Frank - any big plans for the weekend?
ESPNRadio.com (1:36 PM)
Going up to the Boston area to see some folks. Anyone here have any big weekend activities slated?
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
I'm willing to risk suspension, Lisa. Bud is a joke and has been from the start.
Chris (IL)
I wish that we could all get over the A-Rod thing right now...I'm tired of hearing about him and steroids on everything I watch or listen to...there were cheater in the past, there are cheaters now and will always be cheaters!!
ESPNRadio.com (1:37 PM)
I always do a ton of PEDs before this every week. Helps speed up the recovery time between chats.
I-like-iowa-teams (NE Iowa)
Back!
Keith (MD)
I blame the commish, definitely the rediculous union and the money mongier owners for everything.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
As a Braves' fan, I'm happy Griffey signed with Seattle. The Braves need a younger, more viable option for LF.
AMR (Cleveland)
Team owners wanted butts in the seats and trophies on the shelf. The players union should be looking out for their guys. Long term roid users tend to die at an early age of some rare disease. Who's protecting these players?
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Let's see: More practice games for my P/T job, a trip to the baseball card show with my dad, maybe some basketball with my daughter...nothing Earth shattering but nice.
Chris (IL)
My plans are to focus on something other than steroid talk...getting preped for March Madness and Disney World!!
Brian G (Philly)
Brandon - That is ABSURD. Selig has posted some of the biggest profits in history. Nascar has displaced the NHL in terms of popularity, so please explain how baseball would EVER become lower in stature then the NHL..
danny (njalpinea)
is there any chance of david lee being traded today
ESPNRadio.com (1:39 PM)
As a Knicks fan, I certainly hope not. However, I accepted that he would eventually become a casualty of the quest for 2010 long ago.
woody (queens)
any body think the new ballparks in nyc is going to be sold-out or it's just empty seats
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Disney World rocks, Chris! We are making trip number 14 in July.
Bruce Hooker (Ventura;Ca.)
Hey SVP, Saw your interview with Tiger last night on your previous employer. This was your interview after Tiger won his first Masters.Dude, what happened to you your hair? Great stuff.
I-like-iowa-teams (NE Iowa)
I've got some good books just dying to be read. Maybe put up another book shelf or two and make a flying run to BN to stock it up.
Bruce Hooker (Ventura;Ca.)
Looking forward to seeing him back on tour. Regards,Hook
Kenny (San Diego)
Does anybody else realize that while there is a double standard for players who have and have not used performance enhancing drugs, which there should be, there is also a double standard within the community of conviected steriod users. While there is a difference between Alex Rodriguez and the minor league players that are caught, but whats the difference between Alex Rodriguez and Brian Roberts? Why is Roberts automatically believed when he says he only took one injection and ARod laughed at when he says he only used it two years? I think its a lot more believable to use it for two years and then quit then to take one injection and then say "no thanks." If you are going to put a needle in your body filled with steriods, you have obviously put a lot of thought into it. Brian Roberts is a great player but has done things in the past that some question to improve his ability. He started using high performance contact lenses to improve his vision, which resulted in his average jumping from the .270s to the mid .300s. Wearing contact lenses and taking steriods do not go hand and hand, but it does show that he is willing to go the extra length to improve his game, even when it is controversial. What gives Roberts more credibility than Arod? Arod showed that he was still a phenomenal player before and after he used them. It is ridiculous that players like Roberts, Giambi, Pettitte are forgiven while Arod sits through unnecessary turmoil.
Brian G (Philly)
arent the blazers looking at D. Lee? doubt they will get him, but I heard they were interested
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
From a survey last year, the NHL was actually more popular than the NBA I believe.
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
Chris - when are you heading to Disney World - we are going in May
Chris (IL)
So, I just read the headline that Shaq may be on the way to Cleveland...what for? We have big Z!
Brandon (Houston)
Brian G: Absurd is wanting to punish a-rod for something that was never supposed to carry any penalty six years after the fact.
Rich Rodriguez (Ann Arbor)
People who chat with guys named Frank need to get lives.
woody (queens)
for david lee to go we must get amare back
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Wow! Kenny had a lot to get off of his chest.
ESPNRadio.com (1:41 PM)
20 minutes to go!
Keith (MD)
Football players kill their bodies for the sport without guaranteed contracts but baseball players gets guaranteed contracts. That is B.S.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
May is a nice time of year to head to WDW, Lisa.
Chris (IL)
Amare is off the block now that the new coach is in
Tony (IL)
20 mins till what?
ESPNRadio.com (1:42 PM)
The ball in Times Square drops and the chat ends.
Pete (NC)
Moral of the story: Don't be a star player and you'll fly under the PED Radar.
DonJuan (FLA)
What are the chances the Cavs will land a big name by the deadline
I-like-iowa-teams (NE Iowa)
How the hell can you compare wearing contact lenses and taking steroids?
danny (njalpinea)
do u have an idea of where david lee might go if he is trade
Brian G (Philly)
Brandon - but what does that have to do with baseball becoming worse then hockey...?
I-like-iowa-teams (NE Iowa)
The end of the world as we know it
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Oooh, Malik Rose for Chris Wilcox. I just got a chill.
Brandon (Houston)
SVP, ever thought about playing rugby. Thats what i'm doing this weekend. My teams got a match against U of Houston.
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
1st time we will be visiting in May...hoping the crowds will be lighter...my almost 4 year old is so excited to go back
Chris (IL)
Scott, who do you pick to start your NBA team: LBJ or Kobe?
ESPNRadio.com (1:44 PM)
So who are some other players you suspect of using PEDs?
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
How come no one ever asks Mike Tirico questions? Is it just because SVP is taller?
I-like-iowa-teams (NE Iowa)
I can't wait until CFB starts up again, I just can't get interested enough in CBB & NBA.
Chris (IL)
Lisa, Disney is great but will be a little crowded in May...my wife and I went there last year in May for our anniversary
Brandon (Spokane, WA)
Former or current?
ESPNRadio.com (1:44 PM)
The choice is yours.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Crowds shouldn't be too bad. Use the fast passes and kid swap options whenever possible.
Brandon (Spokane, WA)
:D
DonJuan (FLA)
If the Cavs land Shaq the title is going to Cleveland
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
I'm a Braves fan but I wonder about Chipper Jones. I think Andruw used them too. Javy Lopez also makes me wonder.
Brandon (Spokane, WA)
Depends if the Lakers get Bynum back.
Chris (IL)
LBJ for sure! The only way I watch NBA is if he is playing!!!**
woody (queens)
hmm liriano,ortiz,pujos,veritek,delgado,howard
Brian G (Philly)
JB - I was just going to say Andruw Jones...talk about a completely different player one year to the next...
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Early November is actually a great time for WDW. Crowds are small and weather is almost perfect.
Chris (IL)
I know one guy who has not and that is Albert Pujols
I-like-iowa-teams (NE Iowa)
I went to disney world 20 years ago... was the time of your life for an 8 year old. I still remember eating mickey mouse giant waffles at a little restaurant place early one morning. Good stuff.
ESPNRadio.com (1:48 PM)
If I was required to select two, I would go with Brady Anderson's 50 HRs in 1996 (he had never hit more than 21 before, and never hit more than 24 after) and Luis Gonzalez's 57 HRs in 200 (he had never hit more than 31 before, and never hit more than 28 after).
Chris (IL)
Albert has been the same size his whole career...it's all natural talent
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
If Shaq went to Cleveland, I would root for the Cavs to beat the Lakers just this once. Of course, LeBron is going to be a Knick soon so then things will really get interesting for me.
Brandon (Houston)
Brian G: i was getting back about what is truly absurd. At least hockey can take a step back and update its game for the better. Baseball spends all its time gassing for what happened 50 years ago. Baseball is not sacred, it isnt even the national pastime anymore, but i will agree hockey isnt either.
Pete (NC)
Iowa sports fan, that may have to do with you liking Iowa sports.
Chris (IL)
Woody, your crazy!!
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Mickey head ice cream bars are a must when in WDW.
woody (queens)
someday i will see disney world sigh
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Brian: Don't tell that to Braves fans though. I get a lot of flack from them for even thinking a Brave may have used PEDs.
Chris (IL)
I own a timeshare with Disney...its great!!
Nate (Dunmore, Pa)
I saw a terrible picture in the paper yesterday.. A little girl w/ a sign saying "I support you, A-Rod".. w/ a smiling mom in the background... Terrible thing to be teaching a kid.. Even if you are a silly yankees fan..
Chris (IL)
I wish I could make it down for ESPN the Weekend
Bob (Denver)
Bad match-up in BCS NC game, USC would've beaten FL big.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Hey Nate, there is nothing wrong with Yankees' fans. I was raised by two of them.
ESPNRadio.com (1:50 PM)
10 minutes to go! Eek!
I-like-iowa-teams (NE Iowa)
Say what? I missed what Pete was responding to about Iowa Sports... the few that there are hehe
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Woody: If you go once, you will be hooked. I had to get married before I got to go and I've been there in all but two years since.
Brandon (Houston)
PED users exist(ed) on every team, no doubt.
Chris (IL)
Scott, what can you do for me? LOL
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Dunmore is only four square miles yet there are two of us in this chat.
Brandon (Spokane, WA)
Except the Red Sox.
I-like-iowa-teams (NE Iowa)
oh hey, brain freeze, yeah, I think the last semi-notable team Iowa had in pro-ish sports were the Barnstormers 10 years ago...
Nate (Dunmore, Pa)
Gotta do something while trying not to work, right..?
I-like-iowa-teams (NE Iowa)
On the other hand, Go wrestling! #1 again.
Chris (IL)
Remember, your on the inside!!
Nate (Dunmore, Pa)
SVP you're the man..
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
I agree with Brady Anderson - I saw that up close and personal...
Brian G (Philly)
Brandon - i could have sworn that Bud has implemented more changes to baseball then many past commissioners...whether they were all good decisions is debatable...interleague play, all star game...but regardless, he has attempted to make it more modern...
ESPNRadio.com (1:54 PM)
I wouldn't be surprised if we hear allegations about Ortiz or Varitek someday. Same for Damon and Nomar.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Sadly, Iowa beat PSU on the gridiron this year so they have that going for them.
woody (queens)
mlb is not old school it's nursing home stuff
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Nate are you really from Dunmore or do you think it will get you posted by syaing you are from Dunmore?
Brandon (Spokane, WA)
How about Bret Boone in 2001-03?
I-like-iowa-teams (NE Iowa)
Have a good weekend everyone.
ESPNRadio.com (1:55 PM)
Five minutes!
olivia (sokane, wa.)
Not Nomar, I hope not!
ESPNRadio.com (1:56 PM)
I have a family friend who is a doctor. Remember the year when Nomar was in Boston and he appeared on the cover of SI without a shirt on? The friend told me that his body type (he had a ripped core but not a flat stomach) is the type that you usually see with PED abusers. It has always stuck with me, and it was probably a decade ago.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Ortiz says that guys who get caught using should get a year's suspension. Do you think he's doing that to draw attention away from himself?
Tony (Wintersville OHIO)
I admit it!!! I am glad Ohio State was simply close in Bowl game. But please remove that advertisement from playing everyday!! Have some mercy!!!
Max Power (Parts Unknown)
Buddy Biancalana was a steroids user. He got it from his cousin
Nate (Dunmore, Pa)
No I'm really from here.. Workin' at Dunmore corners right now.. Next to Metallo's...
Chris (IL)
God Bless!! "This is real love--not that we love God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. 1 John 4:10
ESPNRadio.com (1:57 PM)
Thanks.
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
My parents have the Disney timeshare...we are actually thinking of purchasing one this visit...we are staying at the Boardwalk Villas and they are quite pricey...why not own a timeshare if we are going to pay the money anyway...
I-like-iowa-teams (NE Iowa)
Frank, you started 2 minutes late, we're using Euro Football rules! 2 minutes of extra time!
woody (queens)
nomar makes sense too many injuires
ESPNRadio.com (1:58 PM)
Exactly! Groin muscle comes off of the bone? You don't see that everyday.
Max Power (Parts Unknown)
I blame Luis Sojo for all the Yankees problems. Isn't it obvious?
Nate (Dunmore, Pa)
I would be willing to bet that Nomar ends up on a PED list eventually..
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
On the plus side, Illinois did not miss a free throw last night. Then again, they did not shoot one either.
Brian G (Philly)
out of the names said by ppl in the chat, i agree mostly with Andruw Jones, Delgado, LuGo, Varitek, Nomar, Brett Boone (good one Brandon!)....i am on the fence about Brady cuz he always hit HRs, just never close to 50...
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Hey did SVP come up with a nickname yet for Shaq if he goes to Cleveland?
Max Power (Parts Unknown)
Nomar did PED's, obviously
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Cugino's for lunch, Nate?
Max Power (Parts Unknown)
Red Sox traded nomar and won the world series the same year....case closed
Chris (IL)
Tell them Chris Piper sent you!!!
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Props to whoever sent the Buddy Biancalana reference. He and Tom Veryzer were users.
Max Power (Parts Unknown)
Johnnie Cochran could have gotten ARod out of this mess.
ESPNRadio.com (1:59 PM)
We're in stoppage time. Two minutes.
woody (queens)
have a great day everybody
Nate (Dunmore, Pa)
haha! not today.. Arcaro & Genells!
JOE (LARENCE)
Hey Scott whats your favorite bar to go to on game days in Lawrence Kansas?
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
We missed Kylie today...she started a new job this past week and isn't sure when she will be able to get back to our chats...
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Chipper Jones hit 41 HRs in over 1,700 minor league ABs. At that pace, he should have fewer than 200 at this point of his MLB career. Look at his numbers. Things don't add up.
Brandon (Houston)
Cochran could have sold ice to eskimos
ESPNRadio.com (2:00 PM)
RIP.
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
Have a great weekend everyone...
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Nate: The Honkey Tonk for lunch. If you haven't been yet, go!
Nate (Dunmore, Pa)
Peace.
Max Power (Parts Unknown)
88 kansas oklahoma .....love billy tubbs whining ....cbs's best production to this day of a tournament game, probably due to small arena atmosphere
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
You too, Lisa. Hey if you need any advice on WDW, let me know.
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
Thanks J.B. but we have been plenty of times...just can't wait to get back this year...
Max Power (Parts Unknown)
the honky tonk man always got over on the macho man....which was pathetic
Max Power (Parts Unknown)
i will give you some advice....take 9-16 charlotte to upset #16 xavier tonight
ESPNRadio.com (2:03 PM)
Is it in Cincinnati or Charlotte? As I've said in the past, A-10 talk is always encouraged in the chat.
Brandon (Houston)
Thanks for the time SVP, later.
Max Power (Parts Unknown)
in charlotte....last stand for bobby lutz
ESPNRadio.com (2:04 PM)
Eh, I'm not so sure about that. Lutz should have been fired years ago. They have never been the same as a program since that last-second loss at GW in 2006.
Brandon (Spokane, WA)
Every day.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
I can't wait to get back either. We really need it this year.
Michael (Orlando)
When are you going to post on the Rivals.com Mainboard? We are all waiting.
Max Power (Parts Unknown)
just take the 7 and count your cash in the morning....and i have no affiliation with charlotte whatsoever....have a good day!
ESPNRadio.com (2:06 PM)
Alright, folks. It's been real, it's been fun and it's been real fun. Let's do it again next Thursday. Stay safe and take care of each other this week. Keep listening to Tirico & Van Pelt!
