Matt will be here soon!
Matthew Barnaby (3:07 PM)
Nice to be back. Try to get to as many questions as possible. Let's get started.
King (Howell, NJ)
Marty's back! Do you think Brodeur will struggle his first few games back or does he hit the ground running?
Matthew Barnaby (3:08 PM)
I think Marty will be fine. I think of one word when I think of him and that word is champion. he might be a little rusty, but he is a battler and he will be just fine.

Matt, are the flyers really interested in getting a big time dman?
Matthew Barnaby (3:09 PM)
They certainly are. When you look at them as a team, they can score with the best of them. If they cannot get a goalie, the next move is to cut down on shots against.
Sam (San Jose CA) [via mobile]
Hey Matt! What do you think the sharks will do come trade deadline?
Matthew Barnaby (3:10 PM)
I do not think you are going to see alot of movement out of Doug Wilson. This has been a great team all year which is built for a Cup run. The only thing I see is maybe adding a depth player for a draft pick.
Vlad Buffalo [via mobile]
Do you think sabres will make any moves?
Matthew Barnaby (3:11 PM)
I think it all depends on where they are after the next few games. There has been speculation that Columbus wants Connoly but with Vanek and Miller going down, Connoly is desperately needed.
Your thoughts on the Whitney trade and how does this effect the trade market going into the deadline?
Matthew Barnaby (3:13 PM)
You knew the Penguins wanted to add a top six forward up-front. They have had trouble scoring goals and Kunitz will help them out. Obviously there is never a ton of valuable defensemen available. So if that is what you are in the market for, the price just went up.
Christian (New York)
Does getting Whitney almost guarentee the Ducks are going to trade one of their other defensemen?
Matthew Barnaby (3:16 PM)
I think this move is paving the way for Chris Pronger to be moved. They want to clear some cap space and I think at the deadline they will get the most in return for him.
How about the Rangers?
Matthew Barnaby (3:17 PM)
John Tortorella id a fiery, in your face, competitor. After watching last night's game, they played with much more intensity and should have won. They have to start to bury their chances. I think picking up Mark Bell contrary to most will help on their power play. He is a big guy that has scored before. I think they will make the playoffs, but exit early.
please tell me the blackhawks will do something. With Sharp hurt they really need another piece.
Matthew Barnaby (3:18 PM)
I think Chicago would love to add another center, but a guy that is under contract for a few years. They are a young team, exciting to watch, but they could use a little bit of experience.
On that note, is there interest in Phoenix's veteran dman Morris?
Matthew Barnaby (3:20 PM)
There is definitely interest. I think Calgary or Philly are two teams that would love to add a D. He fits the bill, but has not had a great season. But the Coyotes have also struggled.
Kahtouni (Ottawa Ontario)
What's up with Wade Redden? Is he a top 10 defenseman anymore? He recently scored his 3rd goal of the year... are the Rangers as poorly run as the Knicks?
Matthew Barnaby (3:22 PM)
There is no way Wade Redden is a Top 10 D-man. He might be paid like one, but he has been struggling for a few years. The Rangers have drafted poorly over the last decade and signings such as Bobby Holik, Kasparaitis, to name a few, prove that they are an inept organization.
BamBam, what are your thoughts on your former teammate Bob Boughner and his Windsor Sptifires great season?
Matthew Barnaby (3:23 PM)
When they first bought the team I thought they were crazy paying that kind of money. He is laughing at all of us now as the boogey man not only is packing a brand new building, the team is also on fire and he is getting high praises for the job he is doing as coach. Could not happen to a better guy.
Christian (New York)
Follow up question, the Flyers could be looking for a defenseman. Could Pronger be a fit there?
Matthew Barnaby (3:24 PM)
He is a definite fit, but the Flyers would have to send some cap room back, which I am not sure they are interested in.
Whats your thoughts on calgary? Do you think they could win the cup with the players they have now?
Matthew Barnaby (3:25 PM)
Calgary is a fun team to watch. They have a little bit of everything. They have some scoring up front, a D that plays physical, and they play a hardnosed game on most nights. In the West you have to go through Detroit and San Jose. I do not see that happening.
Kaberle to Philly, for Vanriemsdyk a 1st and _____?
Matthew Barnaby (3:26 PM)
Jake (VA Beach)
Here's a big question: why are people trashing the Rangers for Drury and Gomez now? When the signings were made, they were praised to no end about grabbing the big names who were young a talented...now, they are idiots for the money and their lack of production.
Matthew Barnaby (3:27 PM)
I am not questioning the signings, I am questioning the players they have to play with. You cannot spend all your money on set-up guys without having someone to finish.
jacob (va beach)
who do you have in the championship right how?
Matthew Barnaby (3:28 PM)
Anyone watch the game with Detroit and San Jose last night? Detroit looks tough to beat.
Callan (West Haven, CT)
Hey Matt, loved to watch you play for the Rangers, speaking of the Rangers...what do they need to do to get back to themselves like they were in the beginning of the year?
Matthew Barnaby (3:29 PM)
They need Barry Melrose to bring the Lightning back to Prague, play them the last 21 games, and they are all set haha.
Can Burke really get a prospect, nhl ready player and a pick for Kaberle??
Matthew Barnaby (3:30 PM)
I think so. Kaberle is an elite defenseman with a contract that pays him fair market value for two years.
Jerrold (Prince Albert, SK)
Hi Matthew, Why is everybody saying the Panthers have to trade Bouwmeester or get nothing for him? Isn't it possible to keep him around for the playoff run and trade his rights a week before free agency begins? I remember Philly giving Nashville a 1st round pick for the rights to Hartnell and Timmonen. Your thoughts?
Matthew Barnaby (3:32 PM)
If I am the Florida Panthers I move Jay Bouwmeester. No one in their right mind is going to give you a pick that really can't sign him. The team would have to know that they have him signed to a contract, that would be tampering.
Matthew Barnaby (3:32 PM)
When we speak next, all your teams will have their final pieces in place. And to all of you that lose those pieces, grab another team.
