Chat with Sean Smith

Smith helped spark Utah to an undefeated season in 2008 with his performance in the Utes' 31-17 win in the Sugar Bowl. Smith had five tackles, one pass break up and one sack. He finished the season with a team-high five INTs (returning one for a TD) and nine pass break ups.
According to Smith's Scouts Inc.'s draft profile, his ball skills are his "greatest strength. Played receiver earlier in career. Attacks the ball and fights for jump balls. Rarely drops passes gets hands on and flashes the ability to make spectacular catches." According to Scouts Inc., Smith is the sixth best CB in the draft and the 54th best overall player.

Hey Sean, With your size, do you think your better suited at safety or corner? Like say....maybe for the Dallas Cowboys?
Sean Smith (12:14 PM)
I'm better at corner because football is a game of matchups. With my size I think I will matchup well with the bigger receivers.
Alex: Dallas Texas
Hey Sean, Who was your favorite NFL team growing up?
Sean Smith (12:15 PM)

Steiny (NYC)
Who has been the biggest influence on your career?
Sean Smith (12:17 PM)
Chris McAlister he's from the same city that I'm from. Growning up people always talked about him and I wanted people to talk about be in that same way.
Chuck Salt Lake City, Utah
Who do you want to be compared to that has either played or is currently playing in the NFL? Go Utes!
Sean Smith (12:18 PM)
Good question! I would have to say Antonio Cromartie.
Erik (LA)
How did you feel about your combine performance?
Sean Smith (12:19 PM)
I think I did ok. I didn't run as well as I would have liked but I had a good time for somebody my size. Overall, I think I made a pretty good name for myself.
Richie (Canton)
Hey Sean, good luck in the upcoming draft. What NFL WR are you looking forward to matching up with?
Sean Smith (12:20 PM)
Any of them. I'm not going to call out any names as a rookie. Lining up against anybody in that first game will be enough for me.
Chris (Salt Lake City)
I will miss seeing you play in Rice-Eccles next season! Thanks for 3 wonderful seasons! What was your most memorable interception this season? Good luck in the draft!
Sean Smith (12:21 PM)
It was defiantly the one against Wyoming. It made the SportsCenter Top 10!
James Howell (Indianapolis)
If you could choose, what team would you play for?
Sean Smith (12:24 PM)
Ideally I would love to play anywhere in California because that's where I'm from. But I would love to play anywhere, I don't really have a preference.
David:Forth Worth,Texas
Sean, what can you bring to an NFL team?
Sean Smith (12:26 PM)
I'm a very versatile athlete and I can make big plays on the defensive side of the ball. I'm also an exciting player that would do anything to help out my team.
Nick (SLC)
How did it feel shutting down(or containing) Austin Collie?
Sean Smith (12:27 PM)
It felt great. At the time be was the leading in receptions. It meant a lot helping my team get the win and it proved that I'm one of the best!
Dan (New Jersey)
Any fears making the transition into the NFL?
Sean Smith (12:29 PM)
No, not really. From the people I talked to, it's pretty much the same just a different level of competition. We're all great athletes playing against one another. If anything I'm excited!
Sean Smith (12:30 PM)
To all my fans, thank you for taking the time out to send in questions! Hopefully I'll be back to chat sometime in the near future. Go Utes!
