Ted Miller (2:01 PM)
Howdy folks... computer's slow today, so in advance apologies... Fire away...
Jess (North Bend,OR)
Who do you think will be the top passer, runner, and receiver in the Pac-10 next season?
Ted Miller (2:05 PM)
Don't hold back Jess ... shoot for the fences. Runner: Jahvid Best Passer; Aaron Corp receiver: Damian Williams yes, I really labored over the QB...
Brian, LA
True or false: UCLA is in serious trouble next year if Kevin Craft is the QB for any prolonged stretch?
Ted Miller (2:06 PM)
Not the right question. True: UCLA is in serious trouble -- whoever plays QB -- if the O-line is as terrible as it was last year. I'm really curious how Craft responds this spring.... don't count him out.
Chad (Las Vegas)
How many year until the PAC-10 stops being a 1 trojan Horse Race?
Ted Miller (2:07 PM)
When is Pete Carroll going to retire? As I said before, USC isn't a Pac-10 problem. USC would win every conference in the country almost every year.
Nick (SLC)
Utes beat Ducks in Eugene?
Ted Miller (2:08 PM)
No.
Eagles Fan (Philly)
NOTRE DAME is going to finally be good this yea and live up to their potential and their draft status..Hopefully
Ted Miller (2:09 PM)
I know Weis gets hit a lot but I honestly hope ND gets better. College football is more fun when ND is good.
Steiny (NYC)
What are your thoughts on Jim Harbaugh having an open tryout for kickers?
Ted Miller (2:10 PM)
Steiny... you are a fast typer. I think it's great... it would be fun if a regular student actually broke through...
Pal McGill (Chicago IL)
Can ND Irish beat USC this year?
Ted Miller (2:11 PM)
Yes. Will they? Probably not.
Will J (Portland, OR)
Ted, why do you suppose so many of the Candidates for Pac-10 commissioner have withdrawn?
Ted Miller (2:14 PM)
It's going to be hard to make the big changes folks want and do so within the current Pac-10 way of doing things . And I don't know if the Pac-10 is willing to pay as much as other conferences do for a talented, accomplished leader.
Bryan (Eugene, OR)
If Blount doesn't return to the team, what happens to the Ducks?
Ted Miller (2:15 PM)
I'm betting he returns, but if he doesn't -- and Bryce Brown goes elsewhere -- you just look down the depth chart with Crenshaw, James and Alston...
Mo (NYC)
I know the Rose Bowl is a big deal and all, but do you think the players (and coaches) are tired of beating up on whatever Big Ten school qualifies?
Ted Miller (2:19 PM)
It's hard to get tired of the Rose Bowl. But the Big Ten seems to do OK when it plays the SEC in the Capital One and Outback Bowls. My point is whoever stands across from USC is going to get drubbed in a BCS bowl game.
Kevin (Phoenix)
The big question in your backyard Ted is who will quarterback the Devils. I hear good things about Brock, Samson, and Sullivan.
Ted Miller (2:19 PM)
I'm going with the tall frosh from Montana...
Logan (Tucson, AZ)
Of Arizona's road games: @Iowa, @OSU, @Washington, @USC, @ASU, @Cal. Which do you think the Wildcats can seriously come away with a win.
Ted Miller (2:21 PM)
I don't see any game they can't win... my guess is they will be big underdogs at USC and Cal...
Mo (NYC)
Are you seriously insinuating that USC is consistently better than the best of the SEC? Did you see what Florida (and I'm loathe to admit it as a Bama fan) did to an historically great Oklahoma offense? Really?
Ted Miller (2:23 PM)
Yes. And I know you know I am right. That's why this conversation is so silly. Educated SEC fans KNOW what USC; they just hate to admit it. That OU team in 2004 was historically great, too.
Logan (Tucson)
Since you answered our rivials QB question, fill us in on the QB mystery for the better school, U of A. Who is likely to be the starter at QB?
Ted Miller (2:25 PM)
It will be either Foles or Scott....kidding! I watched one practice and was impressed with Foles... Going to be close.
Patrick (Mobile, AL)
Ted, I am completely tired of the Rose Bowl. Its USC vs. an overrated and under qualifying Big 10 team that couldnt even stand up to a mid level Big-12 or SEC team. You want to make the Rose Bowl more exciting, get USC some competition. They sure dont get any during the season in that weak Pathetic Athletic Conference of theirs.
Ted Miller (2:26 PM)
SEC vs. Big Ten in Capital One Bowl... 4-4 since 2001. SEC vs. Big Ten in Outback Bowl... 4-4 since 2001... USC has won nine in a row vs. Big Ten, six in BCS games, by an average of 24 points. The Big Ten isn't the problem It's that USC is so good in big games.
Ames, Iowa
How long will Sonny Dykes stay at UA?
Ted Miller (2:28 PM)
My guess is if whoever wins Arizona's QB job thrives and puts up big numbers Dykes will start getting good offers this off-season or next... At this point, he looks like a fast riser..
Joey (Florence, AL)
Explain mighty USC losing to Oregon St. then. Or. St. is mid-level SEC at best.
Ted Miller (2:29 PM)
How do you explain any upset loss? I'd like Oregon State chances vs. Ole Miss. Remember: The Beavers should have won at Utah, which kicked Alabama all over New Orleans...
Mack (Orlando, FL)
While I would be a little scared facing an always impressive USC team, to say that they would win the conference championship nearly every year in any other conference is ridiculous. They hardly ever have to play in truly hostile environments, something that makes the SEC so great. I think that they would CONTEND for a title year in and year out, but to win every year is far fetched to say the least.
Ted Miller (2:31 PM)
Mack... That's a fair point...But I also wonder how many Pac-10 venues you've been inside? I'd rather send my team to a lot of places in the SEC rather than Autzen.
Deriek (Eugene OR)
Top 3 in the Pac-10 next year?
Ted Miller (2:32 PM)
USC, Cal, Oregon
D Cruz (NYC, NY)
Who has the best game atmosphere in the Pac 10?
Ted Miller (2:34 PM)
Oregon and USC... Washington used to be great. But every venue, other than Stanford, gets pretty amped for big games... when Washington State was rolling Martin Stadium was no fun for opponents...
Suzan (Ann Arbor, MI)
Is Autzen the craziest place to play in the PAC 10? Where does it rank in the nation? Top 15? 10? even 5? Have a good day Mr. Miller!
Ted Miller (2:35 PM)
Top-10. My buddies in GA will hate this but I love the Swamp... lots of cool places to hit right across the street after the game!
Sonia (NJ)
Ted, why don't top SEC teams (e.g. LSU, UG) want to play USC on a home and away series? I've read that a lot of SEC teams don't like to travel b/c they require a stadium to meet a certain attendance. The Coliseum fits about 90K. Thanks.
Ted Miller (2:36 PM)
Fear.
Sylvain (Calgary)
Hey Ted, Do you see Joe Mcknight having a breakout season at RB or should the USC coaches move him to CB so he can be a 1st rounder at the next level?
Ted Miller (2:37 PM)
I think he needs to stay healthy. If he gets 15-20 touches a game, he's a Heisman candidate.
Cosmo (Anytown, USA)
I'm not sure if it's your smug smile, your bad haircut or your open USC cheerleading, but I want you to know that we are not friends.
Ted Miller (2:38 PM)
You lie. You love me.
Allison
Is jahvid a heisman candidate?
Ted Miller (2:38 PM)
yes. on the short list.
Carter (Atl GA)
Ted, which game would you rather see this year. Florida Vs. Texas for the National Championship Florida Vs. USC for the national championship. ?
Ted Miller (2:39 PM)
Florida vs. USC... But, just like the rest of America, that's what I wanted to see last year. This year, I'd pick the Gators...
thomas (los angeles)
do you really think corp will be the next usc quarterback? i loved him at orange lutheran, but i've never believed he is right for usc. i'm hoping usc's offense is 70-30 run next season.
Ted Miller (2:40 PM)
Thomas... here's a hint... I really don't know. I think whoever plays Qb is going to put up big numbers because that offense is loaded everywhere....and the line will be the best in the nation...
Will J (Portland, OR)
Who do you think should've won POY last year Best or Quizz?
Ted Miller (2:41 PM)
Close... I think they got it right with Quizz...
Luly (Ethiopia)
Are you impressed by Oregon and Oregon State's ability to get players to play at their schools, seeing how hard it is to get anyone over there? Thanks
Ted Miller (2:44 PM)
Ethiopia! Luly, you are my favorite poster of the day. Oregon and Oregon State recruit very differently, but the fact that both are successful speaks to the quality of their coaching staffs... there is very little HS talent in Oregon.
Jeff (U of A Alumn)
How does Arizona's facilities measure up to other Pac-10 schools?
Ted Miller (2:46 PM)
In the middle... the Pac-10 doesn't measure up vs. the SEC, Big Ten or Big 12 (or some of the ACC) in facilities... Only Oregon has truly outstanding facilities... I love out of town media marvelling at home mediocre USC's setup is.
Brandon: (Salem Oregon)
What do you think a reasonable expectation is for the Oregon Duck defense.
Ted Miller (2:48 PM)
My expectation is the offense might want to hold onto the ball a bit longer... The Ducks D-line is their REAL question. If it turns out merely solid, this could be a top-10 team. But there will be a lot of inexperience up front...
J (Honolulu, HI)
How's the new life of fatherhood?
Ted Miller (2:51 PM)
A blast... The G-Stone, however, keeps barking at me about how great the SEC is...I forgive him because his diaper is often messy.
Will J (Portland, OR)
Best coach in the Pac-10 is.........
Ted Miller (2:52 PM)
Pete Carroll... how could it not be after he wins seven conference titles in a row?
Darryl (Oakland, CA)
The more you analyze Cal and Oregon, who do you think has a better team going into 2009?
Ted Miller (2:53 PM)
Cal... I think Cal has a shot at the Trojans... And I base that on my belief that QB Kevin Riley is going to be much improved this year without Longshore around...
Brendan (Louisville)
Is it true that it rains 250 days out of the year in Seattle?
Ted Miller (2:53 PM)
Yes... but the seafoood makes up for it...
Will J (Portland, OR)
Mike Riley should be tied, I mean Pete is good, but you can't tell me he would have the same kind of success if he had OSU's talent.
Ted Miller (2:55 PM)
Riley has done a great job... so has Bellotti... and Tedford... But remember that USC wasn't USC until Carroll arrived...
Bryan (Gold Beach, OR)
Is there any short-term hope for the Huskies??
Ted Miller (2:56 PM)
A healthy Locker is good for a couple of wins... but the schedule is a killer... why invite LSU to town? That's just freaking stupid...
Bryan (Gold Beach, OR)
Who is the best defensive player in the Pac-10 next year?
Ted Miller (2:57 PM)
Taylor Mays... maybe Brian Price...
Chris (Kansas City, MO)
Why does the SEC have such a superiority complex, so much so that they need to bellow it on all message boards every year- even though their teams get inflated preseason rankings regardless?
Ted Miller (2:59 PM)
Because they really, really, really love football. Most fans down there don't get distracted by pro sports, either. It's 365 SEC football. And it is the best, on average, conference... just not by the wide margins SEC folks believe.
Mo (NYC)
It's not a superiority complex if you are, in fact, better. But seriously, I will admit that the relative gap in talent from the SEC to the Big 12/Pac 10 is a lot smaller than some people perceive it to be, but I still stand behind the assertion that there IS a gap.
Ted Miller (3:00 PM)
hey... look we agree... now if you could only get Cosmo to stop dogging my hair...
Jake (Honolulu, HI)
Best cheerleaders in the Pac10?
Ted Miller (3:01 PM)
Oregon. And that's all I'm gonna say about that.
Darryl (Oakland, CA)
Hey, don't forget about Cameron Jordan!
Ted Miller (3:01 PM)
I haven't... but he's more of an up-and-comer rather than an already-there...like ASU's Lawrence Guy.
Ted Miller (3:03 PM)
Folks... I'm hungry. Got to get some lunch. As always, thanks for stopping by, even if you didn't bring the love...
