Paul Kuharsky (2:57 PM)
Greetings. Happy to see you here. Hope you've got the hoop on...
Richard (Greensboro, NC)
Regarding the Cutler funhouse, why isn't Denver using Simms for a year and drafting one of the top QBs next year a possibility? Offense seems young, defense being revamped; it doesn't seem like a win now scenario and QBs next year look quite strong.
Paul Kuharsky (2:58 PM)
Good question. I don't know if they are in love, if anyone is in love, with Stafford or Sanchez...
Corey: (Washington DC)
Paul, with Marvin Harrison out of Indy, what kind of a season do you foresee out of AG? Last year people thought he would have a breakout year, and although his numbers jumped from his rookie year, he did not quite "beak out". Is this the year we see a jump from him?
Paul Kuharsky (2:59 PM)
Around the league people really see him as strictly a slot guy. I know they think he's more. But if Britt or Nicks was really the No. 2 and AG was concentrating on what he does best, I could see a breakout....
Brian Fullford, Jacksonville, FL
Happy Tourney Day, Paul. David Garrard question for you. When Byron was at the Jags helm there was a buzz about David's upside and how he could fetch the Jags some draft picks from interested teams. Does he still have that draw? Jaguar message boards and radio airwaves are buzzing with the possibility of getting Cutler while trading away David. I'm of the opinion that David's average 2008 was a direct result of the o-line woes, along with no WR help. When I look at what he did to make Wilford (Dolphins thought he could start), Williams (10 TDs in 2007) and Jones (over 700 yards in 2008) look better than they are, I think he still has the "it" to lead the Jags and I don't want him to leave. He may not be an upper tier QB but he isn't this teams ball and chain.
Paul Kuharsky (3:01 PM)
I don't see him as tradeable. Huge contract. Someone would have to want it, then the Jags would have to swallow a lot of accelerated bonus against their cap....
Baldvin (Denmark)
Do you think that the Jags and the Jets might make a draftday trade of picks in th first round with the jags getting some later round picks aswell. The Jets could go and get one of the three first round QB's and the Jags could possibly select Oher with the 17th pick. What do you think?
Paul Kuharsky (3:02 PM)
I see the potential for that trade. I don't see the potential for Oher to be there at 17 I don't think... If Smith and Monroe, Raji and Crabtree and Maclin are all gone, I'd think they'd want to get of No. 8....
Diamond Bar CA
What do you think the chances are the titans go after Torry Holt? Do you think he would be a good pick up and fit?
Paul Kuharsky (3:03 PM)
They are interested. The question is price. I would think the Jags would be even more interested...
bob jerseyyy [via mobile]
how good do u think slaton would be this. think sophomere slump this yr or what.
Paul Kuharsky (3:03 PM)
If they give him a big back to carry some of the load and he stays healthy, I think he continues to be good and is a threat to break it on every carry....
Heath (Nashville)
Is there any chance that VY shows up to play and take the starting job away from Collins or is he the starter hands down no matter what
Paul Kuharsky (3:04 PM)
Would take two very unlikely things: VY playing unbelievably well and Collins playing very poorly...
Anthony, Nashville
Last year Young asked out of the Jag game. Eventually, he got his wish. So why does he want his job back now?
Paul Kuharsky (3:05 PM)
I'm no Young defender. But he asked out of the game, not out of a career....
Juan Houston Tx
Any truth to D. Brooks coming to Houston to play linebacker? And why can't the Texans get a decent safety?
Paul Kuharsky (3:05 PM)
I've not heard anything about that. Scouts Inc. suggested in my blog he would be a good match there. That doesn't mean the Texans or Brooks see it that way....
OSUBuckeye, Columbus
Why are colts so dormant in the free agency? NE and other teams are upgrading. Will colts be in trouble if they dont address defense
Paul Kuharsky (3:06 PM)
They don't have any money and don't believe in bringing in many outsiders....
JB (TX)
So Faggins is visiting Tennessee for what exactly? Will he be parking cars or something? He certainly can't cover anyone, and hasn't for years now. I'm just saying...
Paul Kuharsky (3:07 PM)
You would think seeing him firsthand twice a year, they'd be on to it... But it is only a visit...
Nate (Burns, TN)
Paul... which is more fun... a huge early upset... or a big name clash in the finals?
Paul Kuharsky (3:07 PM)
Huge early upset. I wanted one with Cal. St.-Fullerton...
Razorback, Little Rock
Hi Paul...What do you think are colts chances this year? It seems they cannot get deep into playoff with the existing roster
Paul Kuharsky (3:08 PM)
I think you add a good WR, DT and LB to them and they can be quite good, as usual. Particularly if Ugoh settles down and Addai returns to form...
JL (Hoboken, NJ)
What do you think of the league possibly switching draft order for playoff teams to reflect post-season performance (aside from the super bowl teams)?
Paul Kuharsky (3:09 PM)
I don't have a strong feeling one way or the other. Does seem inconsistent to only count the last game of the playoffs....
Gary (Pleasant View, TN)
How does the Titans Off. line look? I know we lost 1 to Free Agency. What about the status of the rest of the line?
Paul Kuharsky (3:09 PM)
All five starters back, heir for Mawae in place. Tackles locked up. Looks great. They need a swing tackle to replace Loper, but maybe they think Otto can do it....
Steve (Memphis,TN)
Report is Lendale White showed up 20lbs lighter than this time last year. This is a contract year. If he has his best year yet, do the Titans sign him to an extension or let him walk regardless?
Paul Kuharsky (3:10 PM)
They won't break the bank for him, so if he gets a big offer somewhere, bye-bye. I suspect we'll see them draft a big back in this class....
Aaron (Nashville)
Paul - who do you have in the Final Four?
Paul Kuharsky (3:11 PM)
UConn, Kansas, Villanova, UNC. People are going too much chalk considering No. 1 lost every other week all season....
Ben, Tallahassee (FL)
Hi Paul. Do you see Indianapolis resigning D. Rhodes or do you think they will draft someone to backup Addai and Hart?
Paul Kuharsky (3:12 PM)
I haven't been able to get a sense. At season's end, I felt sure they'd re-sign DR. Doesn't appear he's going anywhere, so he stays an option, they gauge the draft and then we see....
JL (Hoboken, NJ)
You're not a Young defender?
Paul Kuharsky (3:13 PM)
Am I? I'm told I am pretty hard on him, and I don't envision him doing what he needs to in order to ever start for the Titans again barring injury...
Joey (Rochester, New York)
Rex Grossman, Byron Leftwich and some others are still out there. Any chance the Titans bring them in to compete for the #2 QB with Vince Young?
Paul Kuharsky (3:15 PM)
I sure hope not with Grossman. Leftwich would be great behind that line... I think they wait, see if there is a midrange guy to draft that they like. Even if they don't draft one, they may feel fine with a camp arm, knowing that if VY stinks it up in camp, veteran options will likely be available... Hard to carry three again....
Bert (Dumont NJ)
Why would the Titans not sign/trade for a top-tier WR now that they have Collins in place to get them the ball and they have the most explosive RB (Johnson) in the league? They have the cap space for not having to pay Haynesworth. Not paying him 100 mil was the best decision ever made at Babtist Sports Park.
Paul Kuharsky (3:16 PM)
Who? Everybody wants this mythical receiver, but no one can name him. Fitzgerald and Johnson and Johnson aren't available. And while Boldin is great, he's not the speed demon they covet...
Cal St-Northridge
Thanks for calling us Fullerton...
Paul Kuharsky (3:17 PM)
Wow -- That was brutal. I formally apologize to you, anyone connected to Northridge, and anyone who read that is reading this... Sorry... And great game...
Quinton (Georgia)
Why won't the Broncos trade Cutler to Carolina and get Juliu Peppers, he could really help out their defense
Paul Kuharsky (3:18 PM)
For starters, because Peppers has a cap number of roughly $17 million....
Josh (SF)
Do you think Kerry Collins will be the next David Garrard? (A one-year wonder that got a big extension that he has no chance of living up to now that his o-line is older and the defense is taking huge hit that ultimately leads to a disappointing sub-500 season)
Paul Kuharsky (3:18 PM)
Collins hardly got the big extension of Garrard. Over time he's been what he is -- an effective manager who can run an offense that isn't reliant on him to be a star....
Keith (Austin)
What kind of cap hit would the Flaming Thumbtacks take if they could find any takers for VY, if so, what could they expect in return? He should've stayed for his last year in school, I never thought he was going to make a great NFL QB (not just for selfish UT alum reasons).
Paul Kuharsky (3:19 PM)
No one is calling the Titans asking about VY. He's not a hot commodity. He's not a commodity, I don't think...
Justin Hellinga Orange City Iowa
Would the titans trade Collins to get Cutler?
Paul Kuharsky (3:20 PM)
I don't know, I would hope so. But the question is would the Broncos take Collins, as part of a package, as the QB to replace Cutler. I think not...
Bob (Georgia)
Why Indy won't go after Torry Holt?
Paul Kuharsky (3:20 PM)
Because the Colts have no money and don't like to bring in veteran outsiders....
joe(NYC)
if leftwich would be great behind that line, how great would he be behind the Jets line?
Paul Kuharsky (3:22 PM)
Forget their line, he's better than any of their QBs....
Aaron (Nashville)
Unfortunately I missed you on the morning show today. Did anybody bring up Climer's lobbying for Cutler? Maybe if this whole Denver ordeal was before KC's re-signing it would have some legs, maybe. But do you think the Titans consider it if they can unload one of the current QB's as the future of the position is so up in the air?
Paul Kuharsky (3:23 PM)
I don't think they can unload one of their QBs. They picked their guy for this year, and maybe next and will ride with him. Anything else would be a big surprise....
Harry (Nashville)
Hey Paul. Since the Titans signed a kick returner/wr, is it almost certain they will go defense with their first 2 picks?
Paul Kuharsky (3:24 PM)
This is the Keith Bulluck draft. They can take anything. The value guy that falls to 30 that should have been gone at 20 or 22 -- I think they hope he's around this year....
Harry (Nashville, TN)
Will the Titans use their newly signed kick returner as a 3rd or 4th wr?
Paul Kuharsky (3:25 PM)
Hope not based on what I've read and heard about him as a receiver. Hawkins and draft pick third and fourth contenders -- or fourth and fifth if Holt is brought in...
Micah Minneapolis
Do you think the Jags will address WR in the draft, a QB to back up and groom to replace Garrard? Or do they go defense?
Paul Kuharsky (3:25 PM)
I think they need to address it all, but think they will ride one more year with Garrard to see about him. To do that, they need WR and OL as well as DT and DB...
JB (TX)
As long as everyone is talking about it what are your feelings on the Cutler debacle? I think he's being a baby, you'd have to expect McDaniels would try to go get his guy if he was available. It didn't work, come back to work and do your thing. You're a Pro Bowler, end of story.
Paul Kuharsky (3:27 PM)
The collective maturity of the three QBs from 2006 is truly impressive... Cutler and McDaniels share the blame...
Phil (Pittsburgh)
Any chance the steelers take a run at Tory Holt. He'd be a great replacement for washington and an even better mentor for Sweed.
Paul Kuharsky (3:26 PM)
I think they think Sweed is their No. 3....
Jay (Houston)
Paul, what do you think of the Texans making a run at a big DT in free agency so they can focus their top draft picks on the LBs and DBs?
Paul Kuharsky (3:27 PM)
Who is this big DT in free agency?
Heath (Nashville)
What are the chances Heyward-Bey is still availible at #30 and do you think the Titans would draft him
Paul Kuharsky (3:28 PM)
I think he's long gone. I think you hope they get a chance at Nicks or Britt....
rockchawk (jayhawk, ku)
you post and than delete? double weak. no quick comeback?
Paul Kuharsky (3:28 PM)
I didn't force you in here chief. You've come to my chat, correct?
David (Boise Id)
would a contract extension help smooth the situation in denver?
Paul Kuharsky (3:29 PM)
He has three years left and he's handled himself poorly. Just what his generation needs, reward him with an extension!
Joey (Rochester, New York)
Any chance the Titans bring back Samari Rolle, considering they need help & depth at CB?
Paul Kuharsky (3:30 PM)
I would think he could land somewhere where he'd have better standing at start than fourth in line....
Mike (Nashville)
I know it's just fan perception that we don't spend money, but can the Titans please spend some decent money on a new WR coach/scout! We can't develope anyone! Veteran WR graveyard Pickens,Thigpen,Moulds,Givens,Holt?....
Paul Kuharsky (3:30 PM)
Since the move, they've had four WR coaches, two GMs. There is no such thing as a wide receiver scout. Scouts have regions, not positions....
Stephen (Nashville)
Paul, With the Titans unique ability to let veterans go a year early rather than a year late, what do you think will happen with Keith Bulluck at the end of the year? I know performance will be a factor, but do you think the Titans will try to re-sign Bulluck even if he does not offer a "home town discount"?
Paul Kuharsky (3:31 PM)
I think it all depends on how he plays this year and what they have behind him. But I won't be surprised if this is it for him in Nashville...
Steiny (NYC)
Isn't Cutler a little too thin-skinned for some of the destinations we've heard about? I.e. New York, Cleveland, Philly.
Paul Kuharsky (3:33 PM)
Absolutely. He'd get destroyed in Philly or NYC... Detroit makes as much sense as anywhere to me. No. 20 plus something for Cutler. If Denver likes Freeman, that could work...
Jason (Bmore)
Are you under the impression that Okoye is just young and will surely develop, or is there the chance that the Texans missed the boat on this pick?
Paul Kuharsky (3:33 PM)
He's not a sure thing, no. But he was dinged last year and I think he's got a good chance to be a good player for a long time....
Mike (Dallas)
What defense would best fit Roy Williams?
Paul Kuharsky (3:33 PM)
One that does not require one of its safeties to cover at all....
Dave (Canada)
Can Rafael Little return kicks as well or is the job already taken since a return specialist was signed? I'd love to see Rafael play in the NFL but I feel that he's a slower version of CJ who will never see the field as long as he's on the same team as CJ.
Paul Kuharsky (3:34 PM)
Oh I think he beats out Chris Henry and if he isn't returning kicks or punts, maybe he's covering them?
Jay (Houston)
Is Gary Matthews III or Peria Jerry worth 15th overall to the Texans?
Paul Kuharsky (3:35 PM)
Gary Matthews III? Are they in the market for a centerfielder? Hey, just busting you -- i just called Northridge Fullerton... Clay Matthews stock is rising, but that seems a little high to me. I hear Jerry has some issues. Talent wise, he could be worthy....
Todd (LaVergne,TN.)
Whats the scoop on Samari Rolle? Washed up? a little gas left? Any interest from the Titans or anyone else?
Paul Kuharsky (3:37 PM)
Someone I trust told me he can still play. Glad to hear as he's one of my all-time favorites... Titans had not inquired as of Wednesday afternoon. I think he could line up a job better than fourth corner at the start of camp, which is what he would be in Nashville....
Quinton (Georgia)
Is it too early to call myself a long-suffering Texans fan?
Paul Kuharsky (3:37 PM)
Yes. By like 40 years. Visit Detroit..
David (Gainesville, FL)
With release of Matt Jones, do the jags go after a receiver? Wouldn't it be fitting for them to trade back and wait for Percy Harvin? 3 years of Gators in the first round!
Paul Kuharsky (3:38 PM)
Yes they need multiple receivers. But Harvin isn't going eighth and shouldn't go ahead of Heyward-Bey, in my opinion....
Heath (Nashville)
Being a long time Oiler fan, and you covering them when they were in Houston, did this years great season followed by a early bounce in the playoffs feel all too familiar?
Paul Kuharsky (3:39 PM)
They played the exact same game against the Ravens pretty much in Jan. 2001 and Jan. 2009...
Keane (New York)
What are the best moves the jets can make in the draft tomake them a more known contender??
Paul Kuharsky (3:39 PM)
My favorite thing in chats is when someone sends the same question 20 times in a row....
Todd (LaVergne,TN.)
Was Samari Rolle released because of the Chris Carr signing,Salary cap, or the Ravens feel Carr is better?
Paul Kuharsky (3:41 PM)
It wasn't Carr for Rolle. Combo cap relief, role reduction. He wanted out, they were content to oblige...
cutlerfan Nashville
Paul, Cutler would be great at any town. Jay is not thin skinned. People are making too much about this. Give Jay a break for being human.
Paul Kuharsky (3:41 PM)
He's thin skinned. I've dealt with him before this, and know plenty of others who have to a far greater degree....
Tom (Colts)
Why haven't the Colts resigned Hunter Smith. They only have Dragosavich on the roster. Is he their starter next year?
Paul Kuharsky (3:41 PM)
He is right now... I don't know their plan, but I don't think Smith is expecting them to come back to him. It's possible down the road of course....
JB (TX)
Another off the board question: how are the locals/alums reacting to Lane Kiffin's act so far in Tennessee? Was Al Davis right this time?
Paul Kuharsky (3:43 PM)
I think people worry that he's young and a little out of control/ over his head. But they like that there is a buzz about the program....
Jesse (arkansas)
Paul, will the Titans look to draft a late round QB? Are their any QB "sleepers" in this draft late?
Paul Kuharsky (3:43 PM)
They could draft one. Who he would be, I don't know....
Christian (NY)
How would you best describe the Jags' approach this offseason? Is this a rebuilding year, or do they feel last year was a fluke and this is a "reloading" year?
Paul Kuharsky (3:44 PM)
It's not reload, no matter what they think... They are rebuilding, but don't believe you have to swallow another bad year to rebuild. Quick turnarounds like Atlanta's and Miami's show you can turn things quickly...
Dave (Canada)
Should Max Weinberg quit the Tonight Show so that he can tour with Bruce? If they have to bring in a replacement it will kill a lot of their spontaneity.
Paul Kuharsky (3:46 PM)
I can't see Bruce touring without Max. This tour about to start has a big break right when the Tonight Show restarts. And I've read Conan saying Max basically has an E Street clause...
Rustmeister (Millington, TN)
Do you think the Titans will get a third QB through free agency, or the draft.
Paul Kuharsky (3:47 PM)
They'll see how the draft pans out. Then sign one if they don't have a new one...
David (Gainesville, FL)
Do you have any thoughts you could share with us on Gene Smith? Why would Wayne Weaver place the entire organization in his hands?
Paul Kuharsky (3:48 PM)
The guy seems like he deserves a chance to me. Has been with the organization since the beginning and worked his way up. Underdog kind of story.... Outside of booting Taylor and signing Considine, I don't have any big complaints about what he's done so far. Give him a shot...?
Steiny (NYC)
Do you think the new union chief is a plus or minus for the league?
Paul Kuharsky (3:50 PM)
I think he's going to be good. Different background, different vibe... I think it's a joke however, that after he got 20 of 32 votes and won, they voted to call it unanimous, and are now acting like it was....
omar (houston)
Hey do you think the Houston Texans could be the next Arizona Cardinals? You know, reaching the Super Bowl and all or at least make a pretty good run?
Paul Kuharsky (3:51 PM)
They need a good draft, better road play, better division play, a significant reduction in turnovers, a great debut by the new DC and a dropoff by the Titans or Colts... I think they're getting better, but all that is a tall order...
Sean (TR NJ)
I have seen on some mock drafts that if one of the top two QB's drop to the Jags that they would take them. Isnt that a little quick to dismiss Gerard?
Paul Kuharsky (3:53 PM)
I think it is. If they didn't have a ton of other needs, it would be one thing. But if a QB is the best pick there, they need to find a trading partner, I think. Then again, I wouldn't have given Garrard the giant contract so quickly, either...
Shaun (Boston, MA)
Is it completely rediculous to suggest that if the patriots win the Superbowl this year, they have completed the most dominant decade in NFL history?
Paul Kuharsky (3:55 PM)
The Patriots of this decade would certainly be on the ballot...
Todd (LaVergne,TN.)
Havent heard much on Titans receivers Paul and Chris Williams. Expanded roll this year or just more mediocre Titan drafted receivers?
Paul Kuharsky (3:57 PM)
Paul Williams: I can't imagine him on the roster this year. It would indict them on so many levels... Chris Davis: They still see some value there as a possible returner....
Sean (TR NJ)
Any strong feelings one way or the other on the Texans QB. I know all the hype when he was with Atl then went to Texans, but besides all the hype I don't see much, your thoughts?
Paul Kuharsky (3:58 PM)
I like him, and i think he has a chance to be an upper tier guy. Has to cut turnovers and stay healthy, though, and those are two big issues to resolve....
Matt (Cohasset)
I find your ellipses to be annoying.
Paul Kuharsky (3:58 PM)
Sorry you feel that way. Old habit that I like to think of as conversational in email/chat/etc....
Jason (Bmore)
How could the Patriots compare to the Steelers though? They didnt even make the playoffs last year.
Paul Kuharsky (4:01 PM)
Because the Patriots have already won three Super Bowls this decade and the Steelers two, it's certainly appropriate to talk of them both. And take Ben away for a season and how does Pittsburgh do?
Todd (LaVergne,TN.)
What are the chances Haynesworth serves league suspension this season? Or is it not a possibility this season?
Paul Kuharsky (4:00 PM)
I'd be surprised if he is not suspended....
Paul Kuharsky (4:02 PM)
Well folks, always a fast and entertaining hour. Same time, same place next week...
Paul Kuharsky (4:02 PM)
Thanks for coming....
