hey gang...Mike Hill and Dana are chatting with you today...here are our 1st Down topics with Skip and special guest: Lil' Wayne... 1-Cavs now have the best record in the NBA, are they really the best team? 2-Which 3-seed has the best chance at going to the Final 4? (Syracuse, Kansas, 'Nova, Mizzou) 3-After last nights USA comeback win, are fans going to start getting excited about the World Baseball Classic??
Ray, NYC, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
THIS IS BIG!!! Team USA winning this game in the 9th with their backs against the wall. Priceless. The WBC is the real deal. That game felt like a World Series game at its very best. I know alot of people are very uncompfortable in all sorts of ways with the WBC, but if we win this thing and we have a very good chance now that we have advanced... we will not only bring baseball where it belongs.. but we would have done it together. As Mets,Phillies, Yankees,Redsox etc. we all come together put rivalries aside to bring home the crown... GO USA ...
Dana Jacobson (9:28 AM)
Hi guys! Thanks to all of you earlier joiners. Will do my best to keep up throughout the show. I'm on First Take today which as you've seen from Jay in the past makes some of the chatting trickier. AND don't forget we talk about it all, sports, non sports, anything that makes us laugh or entertains us.
Steven (Augusta, GA)
Who said America wasn't excited about the WBC??? It's basketball season, plus no one wants to see the best player from their team get hurt. I'm more than happy that chipper went back to the Braves. I'm also happy the USA advanced, American's aren't going to be as energized about a random made up tournament during spring training, like the rest of the world, but WE DO WANT TO WIN. We are Americans, we want to win EVERYTHING!
Moderator (9:31 AM)
Don't forget folks...dunk contest today...vote on a scale of 1-10 on one of these 3 that we'll show you during 1st Take: Dunk 1: From the Big East Tournament, West Virginia's Devin Ebanks finishes the 2-on-1 break with authority over Pittsburgh Dunk 2: The Nets Vince Carter goes down the lane and throws down on the Blazers Joel Brzybilla Dunk 3: Larmarcus Aldridge of the Blazers goes down the lane and throws one down on the Mavs' Erick Dampier
Dana Jacobson (9:32 AM)
Before I post any comments, let me say this on WBC. We Will be talking about it in 1st down AND for those who've written it is exciting and it's the greats out there competing...it's the greats from other countries, team usa didn't put its best pitchers out there. until the team treats this as THE most important competition, I find it hard to care. Loved watching the netherlands and passion from Cuba, venezuela, PR has been amazing from all I've read and what little I've seen. BUT I need everyone to care that much or it waters it down for me. The US rally last night finally showed passion, shouldn't take that for passion to be a part of the game. Again, until ALL the best are there, I can't get up for this. Sorry.
John (Buffalo)
Syracuse is deffinetly the best 3 seed. They showed thier toughness druing the big east turny. Making it to the finals of thier turny with three one seeds, and the best conference in college basketball. They proved they have the heart and toughness to get it done. Don't forget last time cuse had the three seed they went all the way.
Dana Jacobson (9:42 AM)
john, i actually like nova and missouri too. mizzo turning it on at the right time like cuse. wish i had my bracket in front of me but i know i had cuse at least in the elite 8. let's hope they don't disappoint
Clay (Hillsdale, MI)
Dana, what are your thoughts on Michigan's chances in the tournament? It's great to be back after 11 long years!
Jason (virginia)
Syracuse is the best three seed. but there are 2 regions (the west and east) that are tougher brackets to come out of. This could be very good for the cuse as those 2 brackets may be worn out and beat up but syracuse has to get there first, and unc could tough to beat with one of easier roads to the elite eight.
Dana Jacobson (9:43 AM)
clay i have michigan winning its first game then losing. i used to always do a bracket with them going all the way but for work purposes, on the show we had to do just one....and I had to go with my realistic side
50pwoody34 ((Columbus, Ohio))
Whats the odds of ohio state beating Lousiville to get to the sweet 16?
Dana Jacobson (9:44 AM)
50pwoody34, like skip and jemele have been saying all week - despite winning the big east and its tourney you have to wonder about louisville w/some of its losses. which team shows. one and you're done. the odds aren't good, but if it did happen a lot of people would be saying see...i told you so.
vincent (bronx ny)
i think ucon is going to take it
Dana Jacobson (9:46 AM)
vincent, a lot of people (myself included) have memphis coming out of the west as the snubbed number 2 - so if uconn does - you can tell us all "i told you so"
CAL (St. Paul, MN)
Dana, what do you think the chances are that all four #1 seeds make it to the final four again?
Dana Jacobson (9:47 AM)
i go slim to none this year. I wasn't sold on all 3 big easts being #1. not sure besides memphis who i would have put in instead and i think uconn would have been the one i bounced out. regardless i think the parity this year at the top 3 is pretty good - so i don't see a repeat of last year. then again, i haven't won a pool EVER!!
scott (wv)
The east is looking like to toughest bracket to come out of this year. It seems like louisville got the short end of the stick for being the number one over-all not mention the 6,7,8 seeds having tough games all the way in. Does that seem fair?
Dana Jacobson (9:58 AM)
scott, louisville's midwest - i'm confused.
mike meadville pa [via mobile]
wat do u think between northern iowa and purdue?
Dana Jacobson (9:58 AM)
purdue
vincent (bronx ny)
i got 2 go im in skool igot 2 go 2 my next class nice talking 2 u Dana
Dana Jacobson (9:58 AM)
have fun in class vincent - thanks for chiming in!
Dana Jacobson (9:59 AM)
hey all 2 mins from the show, gotta go get out there but i'll be back as much as possible!
tony (michigan)
i rarely agree with skip but the WBC is meaningless i would rather have these guy getting quality batting and practice time with their real teams
Lance (New York, N.Y.)
LeBron James' superpowers can only carry that poor supporting cast so far. On a seven-game series, I can't see them winning series against two of the other contenders (Boston, San Antonio, Lakers, and Orlando).
seth (kentucky)
the record means nothing i am a die hard Lakers fan they can stomp them a third time
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Ms. Jacobson: Do you think the WBC will last or might the next one be the last one? With the injury issues, high ticket prices, half-filled stadiums, and some unhappy MLB owners I just don't know if it can hang around.
Dana Jacobson (10:20 AM)
johnny, we're about to hit this right now on first and ten. the crowds certainly aren't there, i wrote earlier about my personal thoughts of usa needing to put all its best players out there. maybe the wbc should be played more around the world if you want to see more fans. logistically not possible this time of year but oh wait - isn't that what the olympics are for? stand by skip and jemele weigh in on first and 10
rick (colorado)
dana where are you???????????????????????
Dana Jacobson (10:21 AM)
rick thank you for making me feel wanted. im sitting at the first and ten desk between skip and jemele. forgot the computer was here so i'll be with you more than i though, i hope
CAL (St. Paul, MN)
Dana, do you think any teams seeded lower than a #3 will make it to the final four?
Moderator (10:28 AM)
don't forget to vote on our 3 dunk of the week candidates Dana just showed you on 1st and Ten...and check out the Wyoming/Northeastern hilites for a possible write in candidate!!!
Dana Jacobson (10:29 AM)
cal, i don't have my bracket in front of me. i know i don't have any in...but i know i had a couple 6s going further than i thought. bad answer, i need to look at my bracket, i'll grab it when i can.
nick ( clyde, ohio)
i think all 3 dunks are impressive they all get 10 cause someone got dunked on in all three
Dana Jacobson (10:30 AM)
nick calling you out for being ridiculous. come on give it a little effort
Angelica Rose (Los Angeles (CA))
That West Virginia guy gets a 7.8 from me for his style of dunk
Angelica Rose (Los Angeles (CA))
LaMarcus Aldrige's dunk isn't that exciting and I give it a 7.5. Just another run of the mill dunk
Mike Hill (10:35 AM)
What's up? It's Mike Hill impersonating Jay Crawford today. I'm a slow typer so be patient with me. Talk to me
Mike Hill (10:36 AM)
Mike in memphis...you gonna hate me but I've got to keep it real...I usually agree with my president on everything but I actually have Memphis falling in the sweet 16 to Missouri and HECK NO....I'm not down with the GOP...not that anything's wrong with that.
Michael G. Madison, WI
Skip, Prince called, he wants his shirt back!
Mike Hill (10:37 AM)
Johnny...somebody did take over Skip's role....cuz no man in his RIGHT MIND would wear that shirt he's wearing....I think my 7 year old painted that 3 years ago.
Mike Hill (10:39 AM)
Steve...I ask the same question all the time....I guess I'm just blessed....sorry for your situation. LOL
Phil (New Orleans, LA)
I personally love the WBC. Especially after last night. I had a huge sense of national pride. I think y'all just don't love baseball enough to care about this tournament. Another thing is that some of the games are on MLB network and not everybody has that channel. Ring a bell? (NFL network thurs night games)
Colten (CHS)
What about Stevenson's dunk on UNLV last night??? That guy got SLAMED on
Mike (Kentucky)
On the best dunk Why no love for Perry Stevensons Monster Slam last night in the opening round of the NIT.
matt (new britain)
dunk contest: ebanks 6/10,didn't seem all that special. Carter 8/10,pretty impressive, carter being carter, but aldridge a 10/10,the dunk and the foul makes it even better
nick ( clyde, ohio)
dana, do you think michigan can get past first round?
Kevin (Norwich VT)
I thought Lil Wayne was doing first and 10?
Moderator (10:42 AM)
sorry, Kevin, Lil' Wayne called in sick
Dana Jacobson (10:42 AM)
nick, posted this early so ill put it up again i have them winning first game, losing sadly to skips ok team after. and man that kills me
Jon (Metairie, LA)
The reason the Cavaliers are doing so well this year.. Zydrunas Ilgauskas...This guy is a beast...he hits open jumpers, 3 pointers, and is an obvious presence inside...he kills my hornets every time
Matt (Berea, Oh)
i love the WBC. you can see the ball players playing for pride and not for money there
Los (Buffalo)
WBC, it is play every 4 years, c'mon!! People dont want to see Chipper hurt because he plays for your favorite team (Braves) your favorite team should be the US.I think that for those who are on the fence about the classic the media is not helping on getting on board and support the classic
Moderator (10:47 AM)
next 1st and Ten topic: Celtics coach Doc Rivers wasn't happy getting a 2nd technical last night...does he have a point?
Dana Jacobson (10:48 AM)
the media blame doesn't explain why people aren't there. and don't you want to see your mlb team together in spring training to get some kind of feel for how changes may work or not?
jon (metairie, LA)
i got michigan upsetting oklahoma in one of my 2 brackets.. i hate doing multiples, but hey hedge your bets
Dana Jacobson (10:48 AM)
jon, you're my new best friend! hope you're right!!!! would be worth killing my bracket to see that - we are 20 years out from fab 5's first run
reggie ((peoria, il))
Did lil wanye make another date to come back to first and ten
aDaM (Tampa, FL)
Yes Doc does have a point! How can you make that call right there? All egos aside these referees sometimes think they're superman, cmon stop it just do you job!!
Dana Jacobson (10:49 AM)
no new date for lil wayne but we'll let you know when its going to happen. you know that!
Eric (Minneapolis, MN)
Dana, I see Duke going to the Championship this year against Memphis. Duke has been very tough ever since moving Sheyer to Point.
Dana Jacobson (10:50 AM)
eric, good point on sheyer. don't agree on the outcome but good point
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
No opinion on Doc Rivers. Until LeBron becomes a Knick, the NBA is not something I follow much.
cody (huntsville, alabama)
yeah well he shouldnt have reacted the way he did to get himself ejected
Mark (NJ)
I dont know squat about College BB. So Im definatly going to win!
Kyle (Pocahontas, AR)
These refs have to put up with crap all game long im sure he let doc get away with a lot and it finaly just got to him and he gave him the T!
bren (pennsylvania)
with 3 seconds left in a close game..thats just not fair
Nolan (Indianapolis,IN)
Doc Rivers is right not only did the ref stare him down, but he was waving bye bye
markus (san antonio, TX)
DOC Rivers ejection was indeed a bad call. that ref did stare him down
Jason (Chicago, IL)
Doc is right... I have seen this kind of thing in Intramural leagues where refs are getting paid $8 bucks an hour and have their kids at the game with them, but for a professional sport, a ref needs to keep the emotions out of it.
Moderator (10:55 AM)
future topics in the show on 1st and Ten...how far can UNC go with a hobbled Lawson? Is there any value to an opening round NCAA playin game?
Dana Jacobson (10:59 AM)
mark who knows nothing about cbb - you're probably right!
gerald(elizabeth, nj)
i have to grade those dunks like my man skip will and give ebanks an 5, carter an 4, and aldridge an 3 just because he did the superman dunk from the all-star game.
Moderator (11:01 AM)
two contenders for write-in dunk of the week: our first Bonus dunk came from the Wyoming/ Northeastern NIT game... Adam Wadell steals the pass and he finishes with the 2 hand slam followed by an acrobatic flip... our other bonus dunk comes from the kentucky unlv game... Darius Miller gets the ball to PERRY STEVENSON WHO HAS A CLEAR PATH TO THE RIM AND STEVENSON JUST POSTERIZES UNLV'S JOE DARGER
Tom (River North)
Wow. The #2 play on Sportscenters top 10 should be among the nominees. That guy did a flip after the dunk!
Moderator (11:03 AM)
thats the Wyoming/Northeastern hilite, Tom, unbelievable dunk...don't try that at home!!
Matt (Berea Oh)
UNC will win it all and let lawson play a liitle bit in the opening game to get his game back .
aDaM (Tampa, FL)
North Carolina will lose to Cuse in the Elite 8
Rinde (Cleveland)
Who cares how far UNC can go with a hobbled Lawson... Go Buckeyes!!!
shawn orlando fla.
with out Lawson UNC will have a short tourny.
Dana Jacobson (11:05 AM)
this is the beauty of march madness!!!!
Bracketosis (TX)
Hey Dana, Jay-Mike how close do you guys think these finals picks are Mich St. Memphis Pitt. Syracuse? Aldridges dunk gets my vote especially since i was on the mavs! Wbc is never going to get the publics respect. Like Dana said they dont even have a staff on the mound that is the least bit intriuging. Weezys sick huh...lol too much geen...umm beer I guess. NC says bye bye bye without Ty.
Dana Jacobson (11:06 AM)
bracketosis, i think if i remember, i have louisville instead of mich state in my ifnal four but the rest the same, so i like it!!!
Ryan (Berlin New jersey)
I have Gonzaga beating UNC, what do you think?
Dana Jacobson (11:07 AM)
ryan, they know how to win tourney time, a lot of people i know are with you
Mike Hill (11:08 AM)
Rinde...I'm here....I'm just dressing like Mike Hill today....but I've programmed Mike to answer all questions for me.
Jay Crawford (11:10 AM)
How do you think the time off between rounds might help Ty Lawson during the tournament. They also have a day off between games at each region. There's NO WAY Ty Lawson won't be playing. It's one of the reasons all these guys came back this season. Also, it's time for last year's poy Physcho T to show up and have his 1 shining moment.
Ricky (Detroit, MI)
Carter's dunk should automatically be disqualified. If given a stool, my Grandmother could dunk on Przybilla!
Moderator (11:11 AM)
Ricky...need a 1-10 grade so you can get in on the voting
Mike Hill (11:13 AM)
MJ Not making any excuses but What you don't know is I was playing with a bicep and wrist injury and so my ping pong skills were off. LOL Plus, when it came to me and Dana....our chemistry just wasn't there at the table....She's like A-Rod...extremely talented ....maybe the best...but just doesn't get it done when it comes to the team.
Chad (germantown, MD)
You guys forgot a GREAT entry for the dunk contest, Adam Waddell from Wyoming dunked and did a flip lol It was AWSEOME
Moderator (11:16 AM)
chad...give me your rating..1-10
bren (pennsylvania)
yea that dunk by the wyoming player reminds me of that dunk where the cuse player landed on his back.. ouch
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Someone get Mike Hill his own name for the chat. He shouldn't have to use Jay's.
Dana Jacobson (11:18 AM)
yes for those not aware mike hill is the jay response.
ray gordon new orleans louisiana 70112
QUESTION TO FIRST AT 11.25AM O.K GUYS east region TEXAS AM OR BYU
Dana Jacobson (11:19 AM)
ray - i say aggies
Kevin (New York, NY)
This new ARod story is ridiculous. Commentators are just obsessed with attacking him at this point. Tom Brady has done fashion spreads and is always in the tabloids. Who cares? Not Yankee fans if ARod comes back and can still hit a baseball.
Dana Jacobson (11:20 AM)
and people who hate tom brady bash him for it - also the media has taken pot shots at brady for his photos. there was a whole column recently in one of the boston papers ripping him for photos of giselle feeding him on vacation!
cody (huntsville, alabama)
i give BYU the edge over Texas A&M
Kyle (Emory, VA)
Texas A&M. BYU will choke.
Dana Jacobson (11:21 AM)
and this is why i love march madness!
Jeff (New York (NY))
Dana who is ur pick to win it all?
Dana Jacobson (11:22 AM)
i went memphis over pitt ... but i'm strongly second guessing and wanting to go with pitt...i still have some time to change, but its sort of like a multiple choice test where i feel like i should go with my first choice
Chris (New Jersey)
Dana does Dwayne Wade really have a shot to win MVP?
Dana Jacobson (11:23 AM)
a shot yes, will he....not if the cavs keep playing this way
Kevin (New York, NY)
If Tom Brady were my QB he can have Giselle feed him on every beach there is. As long as he's breaking records and winning games.
Dana Jacobson (11:24 AM)
i'm with you kevin. i didn't get that rip fest. a supermodel is feeding you on vacation on some beach so you're not tough? yeah whatever.
reggie ((peoria, il))
Dana no love for michigan?
Dana Jacobson (11:25 AM)
i love em but too inconsistent this year i fear. i have em beating clemson
Dana Jacobson (11:25 AM)
gotta go get ready for jim trotter bac in a sec
Jake "Mayville, WI"
Do you actually think that there is a possibility of UNC losing in the first two rounds? If not wouldn't you sit Lawson and let him rest up?
Terry (Kennesaw GA)
Are Brady and Cassell products of their systems?
Dana Jacobson (11:33 AM)
terry - if it was one super bowl for brady maybe...has the system helped him thrive even beyond ability, i'll give you a little of that but he's an mvp and super bowl champ on his own merit in my opinion as well. cassell, jury's still out
Mike (Ohio)
Cmon Dana, don't buy into Pitt. Every year they're hyped and they fall flat in the NCAAs. I see no reason for this year to be any different...
Dana Jacobson (11:33 AM)
I don't know...something seems different. Those uconn wins were quite convincing for me. experience is something too
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
My eight-year old daughter has Morehead State heading to the Final Four. Actually she has a bracket that if every upset imaginable happens, there is no way she isn't the ESPN bracket champion.
Dana Jacobson (11:34 AM)
johnny, you're all over this board, i have to stop...but yes - your daughter's in the running and if she does win - we get her first on first take!!!
MJ Gill (Boston)
Also, Tom Brady doesn't dye his hair and wear lip gloss....also, he doesn't have Modonna's "like a virgin" in his ipod...feel free to rip on A-Roid...
Dana Jacobson (11:34 AM)
man - good looking men get ripped as much by other men as good looking women get ripped by other women. who says men aren't catty???
Chad (germantown, MD)
I have memphis against pit for the championship and memphis takin it all
Dana Jacobson (11:35 AM)
chad - copy cat!!!!
Bracketosis (TX )
Skips right Ebanks dunk is a 4.8 at best
Chris (New Jersey)
Cassell yes,Brady no.
Dana Jacobson (11:40 AM)
PRODUCT Of the system response
Jason (Chicago, IL)
How was that backflip dunk not number 1? has that ever happened before?
Steve (Phx, AZ)
That Flip was Kerry Strug Balance! That boy looked like he was on drugs!
chad (germantown, MD)
lol Dana u know what you're talking about GREAT pick
Dana Jacobson (11:42 AM)
chad - your knowledge, impressive
Taylor ((Mobile,AL))
cassell has one year of starting NFL experience... are u serious...he's garbage
Dana Jacobson (11:43 AM)
how can you say he's garbage after one year of starting and they finished 11-5 he was 10-5
Steiny (NYC)
Dana, my lady, how are you? you are beautiful.
Kyle (Pocahontas, AR)
That backflip could have easily been a tragedy!!
Dana Jacobson (11:43 AM)
come on steiny don't just suck up - contribute! we know you can
Andrew (Alabama)
Did you see Matt Cassell's numbers last year?
Dana Jacobson (11:44 AM)
feel free to post em, i'm trying to read all these emails can't grabe but if i recall they were pretty good. again 10-5 as a starter
jim
this is a big joke!!! i have posted 3 commets about doc rivers done of them posted
Dana Jacobson (11:44 AM)
2 t's you're tossed jim! kidding, send it again let me see if i can get it up for you
marc (tennessee)
the backflip dunk is definitely a 10 but the dismount is an 11
Lindzey (North Carolina)
Wazzup Dana Do you think My Cowboys can get UNC alum J Peppers on the roster
Jason (Chicago, IL)
I cant stop laughing at that backflip dunk and my son wants to know what im laughing at.. You guys need to show that again
Dana Jacobson (11:45 AM)
lindzey i think the pats are more likely,
Steve (Phx, AZ)
Cassel is far from Garbage! Why do you think there was a feeding frenzy for him after 1 year of not sitting on the bench...Makes you wonder how many other "Matt Cassell's" there are out there riding the pine???
Dana Jacobson (11:45 AM)
steve, i'd take him in detroit!!!
Ricky (Detroit, MI)
Taylor from Mobile... So you're basing your argument on the fact that "because he has one year of starting experience", he's garbage? Nice logic. I bet you said the same thing when Warner made his debut several years back...
Dana Jacobson (11:46 AM)
ouch! but good point ricky!
Taylor ((Mobile,AL))
if he takes the cheifs to the playoffs then he'll get respect...but not when he plays for the pats... they're to good as a whole
Moderator (11:46 AM)
We're going to debate ARod's latest photo spread in Details magazine in 4th down, stick around
joeydollaz p-town,colorado
SHOW THE WYOMING KID DUNK AGAIN. I GAVE IT A 10 JUST FOR THE DEGREE OF DIFFICULTY!
Dana Jacobson (11:47 AM)
taylor, you don't have to give him all the credit but you can't call him garbage. i don't care how good the whole is
Matt (Berea, Oh)
how many back up turn out to suck after one year ricky
Dana Jacobson (11:47 AM)
matt, many. but again, can't call em garbage after one year, jury's still out!!!
Matt (Berea, Oh)
pepers shold go to the 3-4 in miami its a better place to live then boston
Dana Jacobson (11:49 AM)
he wants a 3-4, know that. and i'd argue, bostons better - sorry!!!! even with winter
Michael (New York)
Jay Cutler will get traded to Jets for Thomas Jones I'm calling it
Dana Jacobson (11:49 AM)
my good friend gabe, jets fan, just said deal!! i'll trade any pick anytime for jay cutler. that's gabe, not me. but its his team
Taylor ((Mobile,AL))
again lets see wat he does with the cheifs... maybe garbage was strong but he could be a one and done
Dana Jacobson (11:50 AM)
taylor, thanks for being honest! you got a good thread going!
Andrew (Alabama)
Brandon Jennings is a great player, but everyone makes mistakes when it comes down to getting offered millions of dollars, over going to college for maybe just 1 year, then going to the NBA. I hope one day he will go to college, but I'm sure he will make it to NBA eventually.
Joseph (Chicago, Il)
I don't believe it!!! Skip is right. Being a black male it gets old to hear that argument Jemele gave. But i'm still down with you though Jemele.
Jeremy (Lafayette, IN)
to the moderator-do you guys pick and choose what goes on here....just let me know so i dont waste time typing questions if they are not gonna get on here...i know you want us to stay on here all the time for many reasons...but i dont think this is a fair chat room
Dana Jacobson (11:59 AM)
jeremy - here's the deal. moderator posts some especially on dunks to keep chats going, jay and I post when we can while working. about 30-40 email come in at a time. we miss huge chunks b/c they are always coming in. we do our best to get up what we can. sorry you're not enjoying it. don't know what else to tell you
Chad (Germantown, MD)
I am so tired of seeing A-Fraud
Cincinnati
We love you Dana!
Dana Jacobson (12:05 PM)
having been to cincinnati once and having had a very good time, i love you too cincinnati
Dana Jacobson (12:05 PM)
i'm waiting for apost tape guys i can stay on a few more minutes..
Eric (Durham, NC)
ll, it's amazing how all of my comments are in the "missed" chunks. I'll keep trying though. I would love to debate Skip on the Jay Cutler situation, or anything for that matter!!!
Dana Jacobson (12:06 PM)
everyone wants to debate skip eric. fill me in on cutler. i think he's being a big baby, seeing as skip was on the opposite side i have a feeling we'd agree
Matt (Illinois)
If I were the Lions right now, I'd be on the horn with Denver pulling a Mike Ditka vying for the services of one of the best young stud QB's we've seen in a while. If Cutler went to Detroit, they'd go from 0-16 to NFC North Champions (won't guarantee much more than that)
Dana Jacobson (12:08 PM)
matt, here's the one question in that. and trust me if we could get cutler i'd take him...but the argument has been with so many holes to feel do you hang on to that number one and try with an unproven, or build your line with that #1 and see if you can get a trade worked later or if one of the drews can do something. again, i'd take cutler - but he will need oline help!!!
JOEYDOLLAZ
cutler isn't a baby! McDaniels is on a power trip and he doesn't have that much juice to do that right now.who is josh McDaniels anyway?
Dana Jacobson (12:09 PM)
he's the head coach, proven or not. its a business. you can get traded at any point. you don't like what he did - go out and make yourself untradeable in his eyes.
Lindzey (Raleigh, NC)
Tell Jamele She is The Coolest. She makes Skip look smart. That Wyo Dunk is a 10 plus
Dana Jacobson (12:09 PM)
will do
Andrew (Montgmery, Alabama)
What do you do after First Take goes off?, you and the rest of the First Take crew?
Dana Jacobson (12:10 PM)
we keep working! have to get ready for tomorrow's show. today i have a post tape for tomorrow, vcu's head coach. then i have to track an action sports report piece then i have a meeting then i start looking at packets for tomorrow and somehow hit the gym or walk my dog!
David Fairborn, OH
McDaniels is proof that coaches should always be older than all players on the team (except the Steelers, who are obviously robots and are unstoppable). I know McDaniels is 7 years older, but when you have someone on the team who is older than the coach, it's kind of hard to respect him as an elder and a leader of the team.
Dana Jacobson (12:11 PM)
don't know that i agree but i do think the closer in age the tougher the respect
Mayner F. (Boston, Mass)
Bradys back why is cutler even a relevent conversation?
Dana Jacobson (12:12 PM)
b/c i don't think the pats would want to see jay cutler playing for the jets. it certainly would make them better as he would make many teams better out there
Andrew (Alabama)
Dana, Who do you think is going to The AFC and NFC Conference championships this year, and how much do you think Jay Cutler will affect the team he goes to?
Dana Jacobson (12:13 PM)
honestly, haven't thought about it yet. as far as champs and won't for a couple months. cutler, big impact, he's that good of a qb, in my opinion. prone to big time mistakes, yes - favre like in that way, but put him on a team like let's say detroit i do believe he's good for a few wins last year, even with that oline they had
Matt (Illinois)
You can't hang onto the 1st pick if you are Detroit. I have seen many things and one thing I'm sure of is that Stafford and Sanchez are just like Alex Smith of San Francisco. Go with the proven guy and build around him!
Dana Jacobson (12:14 PM)
matt you said it. it is such a gamble, the good ones, outside of the mannings, are often later
JOEYDOLLAZ
unproven indeed dana.so why is he creating so much chaos so soon with the foundation of his new found team? and cutler for cassel? what a joke! luv ya dana!but mcdaniels is a joke himself up to this point!
Dana Jacobson (12:15 PM)
didn't know any better, as jim trotter said on our air, had to realize word of a traade would get out. mcdaniels knows cassel, he believes in him - maybe he knows something we dont???
Matt, SD
I know this won't get on the air probably, but for all of those who think there is nothing out here in the Dakota's...how about the NDSU AND the SDSU women both making the NCAA tourney in the first year of eligibility. Both went from division two powers to qualifying just like that. Look for SDSU's women to make a nice run at the sweet 16, I believe they played Maryland pretty tough early in the season, only losing my 12, and only had one loss in the conference season. I am a Jayhawk fan, but I can't tell you how nervous I am that the Bison may take down KU. Look out sports world, here come the Dakota's!
Rob (Vegas)
Dana, we also love you here in Vegas! - I'll be happy to be our ambassador & party with you next time you come to town.
Dana Jacobson (12:15 PM)
good times in vegas, was there often when i worked in sac!
Mayner F. (Boston, Mass)
Who scores more tonite Pierce or Wade?
Dana Jacobson (12:16 PM)
wade
joeydollaz
hey mayner brady is good but i wanna see what he does this year.i think the pats are gonna be a has been super powerhouse. they're jus not gonna be the same.should've kept cassel n let brady go for some type of rb. GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!
Dana Jacobson (12:17 PM)
wow!!!! no way joeydollaz, sorry. now if brady's not healthy, but all indications are that he is. you aren't giving brady his props
TPrince (North Carolina)
Skip Liking What LBJ Did Last Night Im Shocked.
Dana Jacobson (12:17 PM)
seriously!! best performance ever he said
Matt (Illinois)
Dana TOTALLY agree! Just look at Tom Brady in the 6th round. Detroit doesn't have time to develop another QB or go through a Joey Harrington project II.
Dana Jacobson (12:19 PM)
matt you know of what you speak! i heard the other day matt millen was in these parts, asked someone what show they were working on they said first take - millen's response - is that dana jacobson's show? the guy said yes, millen said oh she doesn't like me very much. AGAIN, a story i heard wasn't there for it..i'll say this. i don't hate matt millen, but he was not a good gm, nice man, goood player, not a good gm. BUT i still blame ford sr more
Andrew (Alabama)
What do you think about the competition in the Western conference in the NBA this year, and about how it is that the Eastern conference has losing record teams competing for seeds in the playoffs?
Dana Jacobson (12:20 PM)
easts been that way before, west was even better last year to be honest. it happens, bulls days the east was always more dominant top 8 now its reversed for awhile
Jason (Chicago, IL)
I dont see any reason why the bears just dont get Cutler, Holt and Peppers... Spend the money and win the super bowl!!!
Dana Jacobson (12:20 PM)
a ot of fans unhappy with their qbs echo your sentiments - although all 3, unheard of
John Madden (offseason)
Did someone say Brett Favre?
Dana Jacobson (12:21 PM)
i like brett but please noooooooooo
Washington Redskins
Money doesn't buy you a superbowl, Jason.
Dana Jacobson (12:21 PM)
nice!
JOEYDOLLAZ
all indications by who? his organization? of course!i jus think that there are too many teams in the afc to let a has been pat team do something with a tom who has been out a full football season and has lost too much of their personel.coach B. isn't god! wish he would've tried to keep his lil altar boy McDaniels a lil more tho.send him back cuz me and the rest of colorado doesn't want him
Dana Jacobson (12:23 PM)
dont we keep saying that about the bill deciples though? when charlie left, etc? you raise a good point but so far they keep hanging on
Dana Jacobson (12:23 PM)
folks have to go tape an interview!! thanks for the support for lions gm, don't want the job - talk to you all next week!!! thanks for some great chat
