Hi gang...here are 1st Down topics for you today..First Take is getting underway shortly... 1st DOWN +++++ 1). Yesterday Ty Lawson said "Hopefully in a couple of days, it'll be back to 100 percent." SCOOP: Make a case for Gonzaga beating Carolina? 2). NFL owners could vote in May to expand the regular season to 17 or 18 games: good move or bad?
Steve (bensalem pa)
Hey Skip do you wanna put flags on the qb's? or make it 2 hand touch for them? Give them another color jersey like practice so they don't get hit? Have you ever played a contact sport? Every position is vulnerable. Injuries happen at anytime. This really is turning into the No Fun League No not fun for the injured but fun when you geta big hit. I guess when we coach little guys we have to take the pads off from now on and tell them they can't hit each other because that's the way the NFL is turning out to be.
Joe Monterey, CA
This Brady rule is ridiculous. I've been playing d-line/olb for six years and I've always been taught to get the QB at all costs. If they make this rule, they might as well make a rule to ban sacking the QB.
Dana Jacobson (9:56 AM)
morning all! crazy start already with a few things to tape and the breaking uconn news. we will have mroe on that at the top of the show. also i taped an interview with chad pennington that will air later in the show. some great stuff on his future, thoughts about being a backup maybe, so dolphins and pennington fans stay tuned. Back to start answering some questions soon!!
Logan, Lansing Michigan
The Lions will be in the playoffs in 2009.
Dana Jacobson (9:57 AM)
had to answer logan. from your mouth or fingers to God's ears as they say
Monty (dc)
Te NFL is gettin softer and softer each and every year by taking away from the game. Before you know it it will turn into a flag football league.
Quintin PA
Jeremy Pargo better be scared of Tywon Lawson but it's not just because of his name, it's because of his game. Tywon is on the highway by the time Pargo at the end of the street.
Moderator (10:15 AM)
hey gang did you see our Dunk of the WEek candidates?!?! 1-Richardson of the Suns 2- D. Wade down the lane for the Heat 3- Lebron...vote on a scale from 1-10 or submit a write in bonus dunk for Scoop and Skip to consider
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Let's get this chat started already (no NBA please)!
Moderator (10:15 AM)
johnny, we are underway! chat away
brian (sandusky)
I say we make the quarerbacks wear pink jerseys and make the defense count to 10 mississippi before they can rush the queaterback.
Jay Crawford (10:16 AM)
brian, it seems to be coming to that.
Grand Junction, CO.
Hey 1st and 10! I have to agree with Scoop on this one. I believe Gonzaga is a sleeper and has a great opportunity to break through into the elite 8 and final four. My case is based on the weakness in Ty Lawson's toe which may be reaggrivated again, and North Carolina goes as their point guard goes.
Moderator (10:23 AM)
some 2nd down topics coming up guys... 2nd DOWN +++++ - Josh McDaniels displayed the 2009 edition of the Broncos throw back jersey, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the birth of the AFL and it was a #6 Jay Cutler jersey. What do you make of this? - Browns Eric Mangini is opening up a QB battle between Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson. Good move or bad?
Dana Jacobson (10:24 AM)
hey folks hang with us here. we're having some major tech issues so our show keeps flipipng and changing and jay and i may take a bit before giving you our attention. sorry. get back when we can
Tom Brady (Upper North East)
I love this rule. Maybe if I throw enough picks the NFL will make a rule that the defense can't steal the ball from the offense anymore.
Chase, Charlotte, NC.
Changing the regular season to 17 or 18 games is a BAD move. You would have to cough up more money to players, and thats the last thing any owners want to do.
Pierre(Jackson, MS)
I would give the Jason Richardson dunk a big fat 0. It was too routine for a former dunk champion. I give the D-Wade dunk a 7. Lebron James over Lopez gets a 3. The dunk wasn't really over Lopez because he was so afraid of getting a facial that he gave a pitiful effort to challenge the dunk.
Moderator (10:26 AM)
Nice, Pierre...well constructed, well thought out, prompt, ...you get a 10 for voting properly
Chase, Charlotte, NC
Eric Mangini should without question start Brady Quinn. He had a great college career and its his time to shine. Just look at where Derek Anderson has got the browns, no where.
Brian (Sandusky, Ohio)
The fans in the stand want Brady, but the Browns really do have two decent quarterbacks from what I've seen. I still think this is all a smoke screen and that one will be traded, and that DA is more likely to be traded because teams have seen his canon on film.
Adam (Michigan)
I think it is a bad move to open it up to both QB's. Anderson had his chance the last two years and the Browns have already spent so much money on Quinn. Let Brady start, if he blows it, and you still have Anderson, then there you go.
jay (brooklyn, ny)
They mind as well play two hand touch with the Quarterback with all theese rules. I understand they want to protect the quarterback but Runningbacks and Wide recievers are gettin depleted out there and they arent coming out with rules to protect them as far as gettin hit is concerned.
Tricie (Cleveland, OH)
I agree with Brian....soon we'll be watching flag football...
Rinde (Cleveland)
I wonder if Donovan Mcnabb had the injury like Brady did, if the NFL would even be discussing the rule change.
Moderator (10:34 AM)
some topics coming up on 1st and Ten: - In the battle for the second spot in the East, the Magic host the Celtics. How important is home court to Boston? - Pat Summitt has Tennessee practicing after the Lady Vols were eliminated from the tournament. REACTION? - Pitino, Coach K, Calhoun, Boeheim, Izzo, Self have all won National Championships. Which of the remaining NCAA coaches do you trust most in crunch times?
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Keep in mind that the last good NFL QB to come out of Notre Dame was Joe Montana. I don't think Quinn is anywhere near as good. He may have a more Rick Mirer-like NFL career.
Rico (Ypsilanti, MI)
The Dunks 1) Jason Richardson did a double pump during game time. if it was during a dunk contest, he wouldn't get anything higher than a 5 from me...but because this was a game time dunk with the possibly of being fouled, blocked, and just having to avoid bodies period, he gets an 8. 2) D. Wade's dunk wasn't overly as impressive as Richardson's but his was still pretty good. He had great air time and had to avoid Darko's hand in his face for a few seconds. Wade's dunk get a 6 from me. 3) I'm taking the Skip Bayless approach and i'm going to be super harsh to Lebron. there was no difficulty what so ever and honestly i've seen this dunk so much from him it's getting boring. and it wasn't a difficult dunk and he ran around Lopez...didn't run through him or dunked over him. i give Lebron's dunk a 2
Moderator (10:35 AM)
two words Rico: Cliff Notes
Dana Jacobson (10:36 AM)
A LOT of comments on the "brady rule" i'll say this - i do think the pile up effect played a part here, brady's injury the final straw. but yes the league doesn't want stars sidelined. have they gone too far? i think possibly - you can't change mindset as mike golics been saying...at least in my mind. it'll be interesting to see how they rule a lunge and just swiping a guy down
Mike (Pittsburgh,PA)
Carolina easily beats Gonzage with or without lawson.
Ryan (South Bend, In)
what teams were/are in serious talks for Jay Culter?
Pau (Ft Worth)
It would be ridiculous to just hand the job to Brady Quinn, he needs to deal with the QB competition pressure in training camp before he deals with the pressure of regular season games.
Dana Jacobson (10:36 AM)
i'm with you mike! and i have your pitt panthers to win it all...
Dana Jacobson (10:36 AM)
ryan about 10 teams reportedly have interest..denver isn't shopping him yet
phillip (bowling Green Ky)
Is this guy really reputable from yahoo sports? It didna??t look like jay really believed him and the guy was stuttering the whole time. Guess he was just nervous to be on first and ten.
Jay Crawford (10:37 AM)
hey phillip, he is a reputable journalist. whether or not the story pans out is anyones guess. remember, yahoo launched the reggie bush recruiting story as well.
dave (home)
too many rule changes
Kevin (Orrville )
The QB battle in cleveland is a great thing. I do believe the Browns will trade one of these guys and this does not allow a team to low ball the browns in a trade for there back up QB. This assures the Browns full vaule for one of there QB's
Jay Crawford (10:38 AM)
dave, i'm with you. football seems to be working fine how it is. the one change i would make...ot rules!
Jay Crawford (10:40 AM)
kevin, i'm with you. career lengths will go from 7 seasons to 6, and so on.
jay (brooklyn, ny)
Jason Richardson's dunk waz a big fat 0. There was no effort and it looked weak... Lebrons's dunk was a 5. It was o.k. Nothing to really rave about. Wade's dunk was a 8. He looked like a young Jordan and he moved in the air so he wouldn't get his dunk blocked.
Mike (Greensburg,PA)
yes jay ot rules need adjusted
Jay Crawford (10:41 AM)
ok mike, lets start a thread on that.... chatters, how would you fix the ot rules, because one day a sb will come down to a coin flip, and then everyone will freak!
dave (home)
they should do ot a little like college
Jon I.(Hamlet NC)
I LIKE THE STORY ABOUT THE WRESTLER FROM ASU. IT'S A TRUE TESTAMENT TO YOUNG KIDS AND EVEN ADULTS THAT IF YOUR HEART IS IN IT AND YOUR DRIVE IS STRONG NOTHING SHOULD STOP YOU...NOT EVEN A DISABILITY.
aDaM (Tampa, FL)
Hey Jay, I am a huge Jets fan and Cutler to gang green is the missing piece that they need for getting to the playoffs. Getting Brett Favre Junior in his prime is the way to go. Are you kidding me Eric Ratliff and Kellen Clemens are not starting QBs I'm sorry. You know Cutler has the brains he went to Vandy like Skip.
Jay Crawford (10:43 AM)
adam, it's clear the jets need a stable qb. is cutler the guy??
Mike (Greensburg,PA)
jay both team's get a possession.Aafter that teams scoring td's must go for 2
Jay Crawford (10:44 AM)
i like that mike!
Trice (Cleveland, OH)
Practice?!!! Are you kidding me...practice?!!! Let it go, Tennessee lost, it is a low blow seeing that the Lady Vols has never lost in the first round, but they did....so let it go
Monty (dc)
All the dunks are at best a 5. Where is the ove for Shaq. Every time he dunks he brings the whole basket down.
christian (carmel,indiana)
hey guys i never ever get on can you please please put me on. hey um soooo who do you guys have winning it all i have the syracuse orange winning it all. please put this one on. please.
Kory, Holland, MI
I'm willing to bet anyone that the Lions new logo will net them at least one more win than last year. Not sold on the new lions font, but think the leaping lion got a much deserved facelift. Help me out Dana, us Lions fans gotta stick together!
Moderator (10:48 AM)
c'mon Christian...you whine like the coach of the team you picked to win it all
Dana Jacobson (10:49 AM)
kory i'm sorry but i hate it. i'm so old school. when the tigers did their changes i was heartbroken. the one thing about all detroit teams is they've always had cool, classic, simple logos. changing the logo won't net the wins, changing the team will. sorry!
Kevin (Watertown, NY)
No way I want an 18 game season. Last thing I need is for my Lions to break their own losing record
Dana Jacobson (10:49 AM)
oh kevin, come on we can be optimistic till the season starts at least, right???
dave (home)
here is my idea for ot in the nfl coin flip, who ever wins coin flip get to choose just like reg ot,if team scores they kick off to the other team, then the opposing team get 4 downs,if they dont score on their possession game over
Dana Jacobson (10:50 AM)
i wish the nfl changed the ot rule. i'm one of the few who actually likes the college version. at least you get a winner! i'd take that and it would be fair
Jake (Syracuse)
Whats up First Take? I'm starting the drive down to Memphis tonight and i'm going to the Cuse game friday night and i hope we can all see Boeheim's 800th win. Have some fun everyone, Pura Vida
Dana Jacobson (10:50 AM)
have fun jake!! those tourney roadtrips were some of my favorite college memories. be safe!
Adam (Michigan)
The Lions got a new logo? I am from Michigan and didn't even know that. haha
Dana Jacobson (10:51 AM)
check out the freep online drew sharp did something on it
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Dana: The college OT? Really? That isn't football. Make the team earn its way into scoring position. It's the equivalent of penalty kicks in soccer.
dave (home)
first team scores, only the other team gets a chance.if the other team doesnt score game over
Dana Jacobson (10:52 AM)
yes but both teams get a chance to score. and if it's so awful why is it that at some point someone always falters.
Dana Jacobson (10:52 AM)
i mean what do you earn johnny with a coin flip - esp credit?
William (Grand Junction, CO)
Hey Dana, I like the college OT, but think in the NFL, they should start from the fifty yard line, what you think?
Mike (Pittsburgh,PA)
Yeah to me having Practice after a tourney loss sees to be a little strange almost as if summit cant accept they lost its almost sad..
Dana Jacobson (10:52 AM)
william, that's a thought - extend the field...just please give both teams the ball
Brian (Sandusky, Ohio)
Maybe we should just have the coinflip decide NFL games, so no one can get hurt!
Dana Jacobson (10:53 AM)
brian from sandusky bonus points for humor
Brian (Sandusky, Ohio)
The OT rules should be: Teams given at least one possession and the first team who scores wins! Easy as that!
Joe (New Jersey)
Each team gets at least one possession in OT.
Kory (Holland, MI)
Changing the logo is at least a new attempt at something...they've been trying to change the team for years and look where that got the Lions, a bigger headache on who to pick #1!
Dana Jacobson (10:53 AM)
kory, i need wins not more merchandise, sorry
Nico (PA)
Dana, College OT is horrible. That is like mini football with no defense!
Dana Jacobson (10:54 AM)
and the coin flip ot that exists now???? sorry i need both teams to get the ball for me to think its fair. not saying college ot is perfect, but it hits the biggest issue
Trice (Cleveland, OH)
NICE BRIAN!!
Kai, Copperas Cove TX
Hey Dana, what if they took field goals out of overtime, do you think that would make it more fair and give us a winner?
Dana Jacobson (10:55 AM)
its better, but again, i really want both teams to get the ball. i know life isn't fair why should the nfl be?
Nico (PA)
I say the ref puts the ball at the 50 and each team lines a up a player at opposite goals lines and they run to the ball. Jus like the old XFL!!!!LOL
Dana Jacobson (10:55 AM)
there you go nico!
Gray (Chicago)
You know what, the NFL gets too much pub. It is baseball season and we are sitting here talking about the Lions, 18 game schedules, etc.? Let's worry about that when the weather turns bad...summer = baseball.
Dana Jacobson (10:55 AM)
hey gray - i'm sitll wearing my winter jacket, sorry.
Adam (Michigan)
http://www.realclearsports.com/blog/cowardly%20lion%20helmet.jpg Lions new logo anyone?
Dana Jacobson (10:56 AM)
thanks adam
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
I submitted my idea, Ms. Jacobson. You have the flip, make sure each team gets at least one possession and if it is still tied, the next score wins. That's more real football than putting it on the 25 yard line.
Moderator (10:57 AM)
some dunk contest write ins...if anyone wants to rate these contenders: Blake Griffin's jam vs. Akron and Jeremy Pargo's jam vs. Michigan...anyone want ot weigh on on those?
christian (carmel,indiana)
hey dana. why arent we talking about march madness???? i think we should. does anyone here have arizona beating louisville. cuase id o hey dana do you???
Dana Jacobson (10:58 AM)
no christian, i have louisville moving on sorry
ryan (ohio)
That would not work Johnny this isn't backyard football
Di Andre (Long Beach, CA)
A longer season so we can watch watered down football? I don't think so. Roethlisberger gets hit all the time didn't change the rule for him.
Jon I.(Hamlet NC)
BOSTON DOESN'T HAVE TO BE A #2 SEED IN THE PLAYOFFS. THEY HAVE PROVEN OVER AND OVER AGAIN THAT NO MATTER THE CITY NO MATTER THE TIME THEY CAN WIN!!!! ESPECIALLY WITH THE WAY THEY HAVE BEEN PLAYING SINCE THE BIG TICKET HAS RETURNED. "GO BOSTON"
phillip (bowling Green Ky)
Well some one brought up a good point earlier this week. Eliminate field goals all together in the ot this way you have to score a touchdown. But to answer Danaa??s request give the ball to the other team after they score but give it to them like a safety kick so this way a shorter field no field goals its golden.
Kai, Copperas Cove TX
They should take field goals out of overtime, that would solve the situation.Dana, college overtime takes to long and is no longer a game of football its a drill
Jacob, North Dakota
No, no got to disagree with ya Nico. College OT is great and good defenses can stop teams and give their team a chance to win. Miami Vs Ohio State was a classic great great game because of the college OT. I wish they would bring that idea to the pros because then at least both teams get the ball and have a chance to win.
John (Lou, KY)
Cutler to Detroit Draft picks to Denver
Dana Jacobson (10:59 AM)
John, I've already said i'd do it.
Gray (Chicago)
You may be wearing a winter coat, still doesn't change the fact that we are 6 months away from the NFl and 2 weeks away from MLB.
Dana Jacobson (11:00 AM)
gray, no it doesn't but i think the nfl has become america's pasttime. people never seem to get enough. take us to baseball if you have something
scooby the gambler (nj)
the lions dont need a new logo they need to learn how to draft
Joe (New Jersey)
If your Josh McDaniels and want to spite Cutler, trade him to Detroit!
William (Grand Junction, CO)
I love the Pargo jam vs. Michigan... sorry Dana!!
Moderator (11:03 AM)
what would you rate it, William??
Moderator (11:04 AM)
Wade, Richardson or Lebron folks? rate out dunks of the week
Jacob, North Dakota
I got to vote for the Richardson dunk. That was just mean. And Dwade and LeBron do that every game almost every possesion.
Moderator (11:04 AM)
1-10 jacob, 1-10, lets get a proper ballot from you
Amy (Laconia, NH)
The D-Wade dunk was great, but it was Darko in the lane trying to defend...gotta take away a few points just for that.
Moderator (11:06 AM)
give it a rating, Amy...1-10...incomplete work outta you
Mike (Greensburg,PA)
richardson 10 wade 8 lebron 7
Eric (Durham, NC)
STOP making comparisons to MJ when talking about any of these guys...as much as I hate to say it the closet anyone has come is Kobe!!! Plus it's just not fair to the young guys.
Moderator (11:07 AM)
eric, i couldn't agree more. signed, harold minor
West Palm Beach, Florida
Dwayne Wade!!! #1 Dunk of the night, give him the MVP trophy already!
jay crawford (11:08 AM)
oh yeah, dwade was dir-rty!
Chris (Fairfax, VA)
kobe is still 3 championships away
jay crawford (11:09 AM)
fair point chris. he could be 2 away come summertime.
utquillin (St. Pete, FL)
The Wade dunk-10 i don't care if it was darko or not, he was soaring, Richardson-9 not defended but some good style, Lebron-7 he got bumped but other than that just a regular throw down
Mike Wade (Pittsburgh,PA)
i couldnt agree with you more eric...
Jacke (Ill)
John Salmons is a beast. He might be the MVP of the Bulls team right now
jay crawford (11:10 AM)
jacke, did you see ty thomas last last. wow! that's the guy i thought we'd see every night when he came out of lsu.
Amy (Laconia, NH)
That's what my teachers always used to say to me, Mod. I'll give the D-Wade dunk an 8, Lebron gets a 7 and Richardson a 6.
Di Andre (Long Beach, CA)
I would have to go with Pargo's dunk over the pros dunks. It was more spectacular than all three. A perfect 10.
William (Grand Junction, CO)
richardson dunk a 2 (it was a clear lane dunk), wade an 8 (slammed hard over a player) and lebron 7(a pretty clear lane for him)
Kai, Copperas Cove TX
Who is you guys MVP.Kobe, Lebron, or wade? Mine is wade
korey (reading pa)
DWADES dunk was sick i would have to give him a 8.BRON-BRONS&J-RICHS dunks were 6 at best
jay crawford (11:12 AM)
kai, lebron
kenny (cleveland)
im rating the lebron dunk a 10 just because i know how much skip bayless likes him and im sure he will rate it a 4 or something along those lines
Jay (Marquette, WI)
Lebron's dunk will get a fat 1 on my scale. no difficulty, boring...
jay crawford (11:12 AM)
jay, i'm with you!
Bob (Cincinnati)
Obviously Greg Oden's baseline dunk against the 76's on Monday is way better than anything else on this show i love lebron but Mr. Oden elevated over 3 guys
Jay Crawford (11:14 AM)
my comment on lebron was for mvp. wades dunk rocked it!
Doug (Detroit, MI.)
Dana, What are your thoughts on Michigan improving from 3 wins. Also do you think the Tigers will be better than last year.
Dana Jacobson (11:20 AM)
doug, michigan i think will be better. i have hope at the qb spot and an o line that has more experience. but its cautious optimism. if we double our wins id be happy. tiger wise.health, health, health. if we aren't healthy we are no better. starting with zumaya!
Mike Wade (Pittsburgh,PA)
hey what does NIT stand for because i know it cannot be Not Important Tournament ..A little help here,,
Dana Jacobson (11:20 AM)
mike - national invitation tournament but your play was fun
Drew (Buffalo)
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz oh sorry, didn't know you guys were here
Dana Jacobson (11:21 AM)
drew wanna trade places???
William (Grand Junction, CO)
Dana, what is your take on the Lions getting Cutler?
Dana Jacobson (11:21 AM)
william, the broncos are standing firm but if they cave - detroit has the most to give. i'm a bad judge of who's willing to do what but if i were with detroit i'd do it.
Chad (Germantown MD)
D-Wade gets a 6.4 J Rich gets a 4.2 and Lebron gets a 4 and I'm bein GENEROUS
Di Andre (Long Beach, CA)
Oden's dunk isn't as spectacular as a small point guard's dunk. He tiptoes and dunks it, there's no elevation.
jeff (indiana)
oden? oh yeah the next #1 bust
Jacob, North Dakota
NIT = Not In The Dance
aDaM (Tampa, FL)
NIT= No Immediate Talent
Mike Wade (Pittsburgh,PA)
thanks dana thats been bugging me..
Kurt (Minneapolis,Mn.)
Wade took off too early and he stretched it out and put it down. That's what made it spectacular.
hahn, stone ridge va
Wade's dunk was beast 8 (more of a facial) Bron was nice 7 but Lopez was not faced up Richardson 6, it was a baby pump
Dana Jacobson (11:22 AM)
you're welcome mike...some other suggestions above from folks
Kurt (Minneapolis,Mn.)
Can I have your salary as well?
Sid (Houghton MI)
Skip is gonna rip Lebron apart on this one. I am watching the show now mostly waiting to see what he has to say about it.
Dana Jacobson (11:22 AM)
deal
Drew (Buffalo)
and give up my life in the fast paced world of banking? i dunno. that's tempting.
John (Copperas Cove, TX)
At least Oden didn't get hurt duking the ball, cmon Bob, you know you held your breath on that one.
aDaM (Tampa, FL)
Wade did the Jordan logo in his dunk so he gets a 10
Dana Jacobson (11:23 AM)
think about it..get back to me. then again, maybe its the tylenold cold med making me loopy!
Nico (PA)
Do you think Dontrell Willis will get his groove back or is he just another Steve Avery (Atlanta Braves from early 90's)
Kevin (New York)
Jay Cutler for Eli Manning straight up, if the GMen don't bring back Plax. Cutler can do more w/ less and McDaniels could make Eli even better.
Dana Jacobson (11:23 AM)
sadly the later...no clue why detroit did the deal they did with him
John Elway, car dealership in CO
Dear Broncos, if you ask nicely, and you bring the whole team into buy a car, not only will you help the economy but i'll solve your QB problem. C'mon, it's the American thing to do!
Dana Jacobson (11:24 AM)
dolphins fans, listen up - chad pennington's next on the show.
Jack (Ill)
Nico....five k's in 4 1/3 yesterday.....maybe he figured something out
Dana Jacobson (11:25 AM)
wow. oh wait, spring training. the lions were perfect in the preseason...sorry couldn't resist
Sid (MI)
The Dolphins have fans?
Drew (Buffalo)
there's such things as dolphins fans?
Dana Jacobson (11:26 AM)
ouch!!!!!
Luke (Eau Cliare, WI)
I want to talk Cuse, I'm loving there chances this year with how good everyone has been playing down the stretch...Dana or Jay with Devindorf and Rautins shooting so well, J Flynn killing it from the point, and the one two big man punch of Jackson and Anuaku I feel like they will be as tough an out as any of the number 1s.
Dana Jacobson (11:26 AM)
luke they clicked at the right time, down the stretch into the dance. i have em in the final four, so clearly i agree
John (Louisville, KY)
Ship Pennington to Minn. when you're done with him please. Start Henne this year even!
Jack (Ill)
Jay I did get to see that game. It was great to see but I think that John has chagned this team into a playoff team...that will be beat out right away but a playoff team....ps not sure why I put a e at the end of my name
Dana Jacobson (11:27 AM)
he'll talk about that...henne that is john!
jeff (indiana)
dana whos your sleeper for fantasy baseball and do u play?
Dana Jacobson (11:28 AM)
jeff i don't play fantasy baseball. i don't have the patience. The constant updating doesn't interest me. fantasy football's good for me, but baseball and basketball just killed me time wise and i started not having fun. sorry. i guess i'm chick like in that regard
Jack (Ill)
Dana...I know its ponly spring tranning but he was getting lit up before that so to me its a step forward....
Dana Jacobson (11:28 AM)
jack, i agree. just couldn't resist
Kai, Copperas Cove TX
Look out for the Cleveland Cavs. They are as close as a team can get, great chemistry and great talent.I'm picking them to win the east
Bob (Cincinnati)
Well, as far as Cuse goes, we saw how good they are in that 6 OT war. They are deep. Ongenaught is playing well again. And they will shoot the lights out. It all depends if Jackson and Onawaku can play with Hansbrough and Thabeet
Jay Crawford (11:28 AM)
yeah kai!
Hahn (va)
Chad stays motivated cuz ppl constantly hate on him
Drew (Buffalo)
No, dana, that just means you have a life. it's perfectly normal.
Dana Jacobson (11:29 AM)
phew!!!
Jack (Ill)
are you not a chick in other regards?
Dana Jacobson (11:29 AM)
actually very much a chick. in many ways But in the sportsworld am always one of the guys.
Milton (West Palm Beach, FL)
The Wade dunk was just NASTY.I give it a 9
Chad (Germantown MD)
I've seen better dunks in my back yard. Those dunks were PLAIN. these guys are pros they can do way better and to give them 10's and 9's is ridiculous
Price (Augusta, Ga)
Dana will you and Jay be coming to Augusta this year for the Masters. And I give Wade a 9,James a 8, and Richardson a 8!
Dana Jacobson (11:34 AM)
sorry price no masters for us
Tedy Blessed (Arkansas)
Dana its not called the Wild Cat Its called the Wild Hog. It Started in Arkansas. At the University Of Arkansas.
Dana Jacobson (11:34 AM)
In miami though, wildcat. there have now been a few variations if i'm not mistaken
Brett (Bismarck, ND)
I keep hearing Tim Tebow won't be a good NFL quarterback because of the style of his game. I personally disagree but I want to hear people's thoughts on him maybe running the wildcat offense?
Dana Jacobson (11:36 AM)
Brett i've heard that as well but also heard that b/c of his work ethic alone teams may take the chance to have him on the roster and mold him.
Drew (Buffalo)
Has the origin of the name Wild Cat been explained and I missed it? If it's in Miami, shouldnt it be the wild porpoise?
Dana Jacobson (11:38 AM)
ive read that it gets it's name from Dolphin assistant Steve Bush who was head coach at West Genesee in N.Y.and ran the offense a few years ago. West Genesee's nickname is Wildcats.
Brett (Bismarck, ND)
Thats a good point. He's one of the hardest workers I have ever seen and he is just and incredible FOOTBALL PLAYER. I don't care what a team does with him, as long as he's on a football field he will excel
Di Andre (Long Beach, CA)
Tebow's work ethic, will to win and leadership will take him far in the NFL.
Nico (PA)
i think Tebow would serve better as an H back! You can use it versatility as a QB and HB to confuse teams
Jack (Ill)
Scoop is the man....i wish i was as smart and stylish as he is
Ryan (Clarkston WA.)
Griffin?? Seriously??? Really??? wow... does anyone even see NCAA games.... you missed PARGO!!! so much sicker... your kidding me!
Terry M (Kennesaw GA)
Hey Jay are you feeling like me? Can we go back in time and get a 25 year old Kosar to run our browns?
Jay Crawford (11:46 AM)
terry, i am! i'm calling it the curse of jim brown. since he retired we've had red-right 88 (brian sipes pick in the raiders game) the drive, the fumble, the move, and one debacle after another since the teams return. where have you gone jim brown?
William (Grand Junction, CO.)
jay or dana... do you see any new trends coming out this football season? (like the wildcat last season)
Jay Crawford (11:47 AM)
william, more of the spread.
christian (carmel,indiana)
hey jay how doyou like this rule for ot. each team gets a possession on their own 25 yard line. then if none score or its a tie 2 times. then they have to go for two. please put this one on ive never been on.
jeff (indiana)
hey dana do u think cassel was a one year wonder and do u think he will do as well in kc as in ne? i dont think he will pan out like everyone thinks
Jay Crawford (11:49 AM)
christian, there. i put it on. but i'm not a fan. that's basically the college style which i hate. you start in fg range. i'd rather see each team get a kick-off and see what happens. for example. team a wins the toss, the pick, receive or kick. i would kick so you know what you need. team a kicks off, we see what happens. no punts. go for it on all 4 downs, but team b does not take over on downs. team a would instead kick off from the 30, then team b gets their crack.
Dana Jacobson (11:49 AM)
Jeff if i knew i'd be an nfl scout or gm. He's a unique situation i mean we can't even say look what he did in college. i do think he's part product of a system in ne but that doesn't mean he doesn't have ability and hasn't learned in his time there. i know its a non commital answer but i really don't know. I am very cuious to see.
John (Copperas Cove, TX)
why not draft Tebow specifically for the WildCat? or someone like Pat White? proven winners that can make a difference for the entire organization.
Dana Jacobson (11:52 AM)
you don't run it enough to do that. but i know during the combine there was a lot of talk about how white should have worked out as qb/receiver. i think he was just listed as qb though. make the transition, make the nfl
Jon I.(Hamlet NC)
Dana about baseball, I'm a Braves fan have been my whole life but can you answer 1 question for me: WHY DO YOU THINK ATLANTA WON'T GO OUT & GET THE BIG NAME PLAYERS FOR THE TEAM? IT'S LIKE THEY'VE BECOME THE RETIREMENT HOME OF MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL!!!!
Dana Jacobson (11:54 AM)
just a couple years ago all their farm guys were paying off if i'm not wrong like francoeur (i'm sure i misspelled that). 2006ish. they have been committed to developing the talent and it worked for what 14 years straight, time for a change
Jack (Ill)
Jon....not the way Bobby Cox wants to bulid a team
Yankees (NY)
I'll handle that one from Jon, Dana.....
Dana Jacobson (11:54 AM)
now i needed that laugh!!!
Steve (Phx, AZ)
Hey Dana and Jay....HOw bout them U of A Wildcats!?!? They will take care of Louisville then it's on to the elite 8! Represent Arizona to the Fullest!!!
Dana Jacobson (11:55 AM)
steve, gotta tell you for russ pennell how awesome would that be. dont think its going to happen sadly but still...
Luke (Eau Claire, WI)
seeing as baseball has come up...With losing Sheets and CC, do you think the brewers have any chance to make a runk like they did last year? Having to rely on young pitchers like Parra and Yo-Gallardo...There is a lot of young talent on the team.
Dana Jacobson (11:57 AM)
in one word, no. BUT the nl central hasn't always stepped up to the plate!! i'm taking the sexy pick there in the cubs
Steve (Phx, AZ)
Hey jay how do you like this rule for ot. Each team after the initial overtime period, gets to outkick each other with their kickers, whoever kicks the longest field goal wins!
Dana Jacobson (11:58 AM)
steve, skips head would explode...
Kai, Copperas Cove TX
No interest at all in the nit, scoop you are wrong, Dana or Jay, please deliver th message to skoop for me
suave; kansas
d.wade and blake griffin should get 9s! i have a 10inch black and white tv,and i can see wade was behind the dotted lines skip! and scoop, that kid tried to jump with blake griffin.......he tried!
Joe (PA)
The whole 1st and 10 convo about the NIT and nothing bout Penn State?? maybe they forgot that PSU won last night
Moderator (12:02 PM)
is this what its come to Joe? Penn State hoops fans clamoring for NIT love??
Dana Jacobson (12:02 PM)
have a great day all. ours has to get better. i'm going to sleep asap
Jay Crawford (12:04 PM)
suave, very, very funny!
Di Andre (Long Beach, CA)
Now that's funny!
Luke (Eau Claire, WI)
Joe you forget PSU is a big ten school...you should be used to that by now!
Luke (Eau Claire, WI)
Scoop brought up a UNC sized conspiracy that possibly the lawson toe thing was some sort of hoax, that it was just played up to get him some quality R&R...Dana and Jay what are you takes on this. I dont buy it, Lawson is a true competitor and I dont see any way that he would let them take him out of a game as a ploy.
Jay Crawford (12:06 PM)
luke, may be a little truth to it. my thought is it was sore, but if wasn't an acc game, say a 3rd rd tournament game, i think he would have played.
mike memphis,tn [via mobile]
skips head explodeing is better than any ot!!
Tricie (Cleveland, OH)
btw....have skip played any type of sports in his lifetime?
Jay Crawford (12:08 PM)
skip was a competitive marthoner and played baseball and basketball in hs.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
If Christine Brennan wants people to pay attention to the women's tournament, they might want to start by not giving number nine seeds home games against the top seed in the 2nd round. That was wrong last night.
Jay Crawford (12:09 PM)
fair point johnny. can you imagine that happening in the mens field?
Joe (Cleveland, Ohio)
As a leader, Josh McDaniels should have met with his team; gone through the mini camp and preseason training and got to know Jay Cutler before even entertaining the idea of trading him. Is this an insight of his leadership or lack of leadership abilities and did Pat Bowlen make the right choice in leadership?
Jay Crawford (12:11 PM)
great point joe. that it got to this point is a bad sign for his tenure in denver.
Eric (Durham, NC)
they should play the entire ot to decide a winner. if at the end the score is still tied so be it. same for superbowl, except u playtil there is a winner
Brian (Sandusky, Ohio)
OT Rule should be: Each team gets a possession and the first score after wins.
Sandlappa (WV)
Can anyone explain why in the women's NCAA tourny, some of the lower seeded teams are getting to play home games against the higher seeded teams? And how many have won because of this?
Jay Crawford (12:13 PM)
sandlappa, it has to do with schools bidding to be host sites. they are pre-determkined. rutgers and mich state were smart to bid, and luck y to win the rights. bad luck for duke.
Kurt (Minneapolis,Mn.)
Jazz will kill the Suns tonight, even though they are on the road. Jazz, Suns good game. You guys have heard of the Jazz?
Di Andre (Long Beach, CA)
He tried to make an impact right away. I think that comes from trying to fill the big shoes of Mike Shanahan.
Steve (Phx, AZ)
Did you hear that the NFL is thinkin about narrowing the goal posts for kickers because of the 85 percent conversion rate! How Bogus!
Tedy Blessed (Arkansas)
Dana, Jay Do either of you think that the BCS would find away to screw teams like Buffalo, Tulsa, Tulane, Memphis If they all went undeated this year in College Football. If they are Undeated and everyone else has lost 2games by november
Jay Crawford (12:15 PM)
teddy, it's happened, and will happen again. sadly, because i'm a mac guy!
Kevin (New York)
NIT was very good this year. Not like that every year so let's not get carried away with the praise.
Kurt (Minneapolis,Mn.)
The NIT reminds me of the USFL.
kenny (cleveland)
jay.. you being a cleveland fan.. i got to ask..what are your thought on exactly what mangini is doing with this browns team... why is he going for all the second rate jets players
Jay Crawford (12:18 PM)
kenny, it's a classic tactic of his teachers. belichick learned it from parcells, and mangini from belichick.
Kurt (Minneapolis,Mn.)
NIT Boring
jeff (indiana)
GO IRISH
christian (carmel, indiana)

Jay Crawford (12:26 PM)
