Terry Blount (2:00 PM)
Hello folks. Off to Texas this week. What's on your mind?
Scott
When will Jeff Gordon finally break through and win already?
Terry Blount (2:02 PM)
I thought he had a great chance to win last week, but it didn't happen. He would love to break the losing streak this week because he's never won at Texas. But I think Phoenix is more likely the place where it happens.
Saul (San Diego)
If GM files for bankruptcy, what is the immediate impact to the Chevy Teams? Can you see Chevy teams having to switch to Fords or Dodges...
Terry Blount (2:03 PM)
No. Most Chevy teams will remain Chevy teams, but they won't receive any money from the manufacturer. This has happened before when all the ato manufacturers left the sport.
Cr8on Lugoff
Is this win finally JJ's break through race for the year.
Terry Blount (2:04 PM)
I would say break through. He always wins in Martinsville. If he wins this weekend, it says a lot more about them being in a groove.
Rick (Pittsburgh, PA)
Blount, How you like JPMs chances at a chase position this year? Showed some promise working through the packs these past two weeks at the short tracks, and is always competitive at the plate races. Hes sitting 14th right now, any possibility he keeps up the pace and makes the chase?
Terry Blount (2:05 PM)
It's possible, but it's not something I would bet on because I'm not sure how good EGR is right now.
Steve (St. Anthony, MN)
What is the deal with Kyle Busch? He gets penalized and runs off like a baby. How well liked is he in the garage area?
Terry Blount (2:06 PM)
Kyle is a young emotional guy. But his talent is unmatched. He will grow out of some of these temper tantrums. As for as being liked, he couldn't care less.
Scott Lugoff
Why did the 82 team get rid of A.J. he finally hit his stride at the end of last year
Terry Blount (2:07 PM)
It was a decision from the top by Red Bull team owner Dietrich Mateschitz, who has a close relationship with Scott Speed.
Barry (Knoxville, TN)
Does it appear that the 88 team has finally turned the corner on this season?
Terry Blount (2:09 PM)
No. The meeting with Hendrick may have helped, but running well at Martinsville tells us nothing. Jr. always runs well there. If he finishes in the top 5 at Texas, then we can say they are really improving.
Scott (Minneapolis, MN)
Whats up with Roush, first engine problems at Vegas, then terrible at Bristol and Martinsville, just a slump or something esle going on?
Terry Blount (2:10 PM)
Roush cars rarely run well on short tracks. But they should be strong this weekend. Texas in one of RFR's best tracks. If they don't run well at TMS, they have some serious problems.
Cr8on
Is Michael Waltrip finally gonna retire from MWR this year? His driving has gotten worse over the years.
Terry Blount (2:11 PM)
Michael has raced better this year, which isn't encouraging him to retire. He'll probably race a couple more years.
bradly (Rochester NY
JR Championship Year?
Terry Blount (2:11 PM)
Not this year. But I still believe he's capable of winning a Cup title.
lynn,va
other then bbq what should I try in texas
Terry Blount (2:13 PM)
Tex-Mex without question. I highly recommend a place called Arizola's in Lake Worth.
Billy Bob, Atlanta, GA
Why is my boy Jr. qualifying so much worse this year than last year?
Terry Blount (2:14 PM)
Qualifying well usually means you hit the set-up right rolling off the hauler. Obviously, they aren't doing that.
Adam (syracuse,ny)
for the small chevy teams, will no GM money pretty much shut them down?
Terry Blount (2:15 PM)
No because they aren't getting much if any money from Chevy anyway.
lynn,va
thanks, what is the strangest thing you have ever seen in texas
Terry Blount (2:16 PM)
You mean other than my ex-wife? Just kidding. Probably a roach that was big enough to cover a brick.
Adam (syracuse,ny)
seems to be difference right now for Jr. Jimmie hits the track and the car isn't right. he takes 3 early pits and the team gets that thing running on all cylinders. Is Jr's team that inferior? or is there a serious lack of communication?
Terry Blount (2:17 PM)
I can answer that in two words _ Chad Knaus. That's the difference.
Steve (St. Anthony)
How long will Robby Gordon Motorsports be around in NASCAR?
Terry Blount (2:18 PM)
As long as he continues to find sponsorship.
Aron (Las Colinas, Tx)
speaking of food, what are your spots to eat for a weekend in Texas?
Terry Blount (2:20 PM)
One I mentioned _ Arizola's. Babe's Chicken down the road from the track is incredible, but it's hard to get in.
Cory, Geneva, IL
If Jr. makes the chase, someone now in the top 12 is out. I am thinking Kevin Harvick. Who do you say?
Terry Blount (2:21 PM)
We're going to see several changes in the top 12 before we get to September. Harvick needs to pick it up, but there's a long way to go.
Andy (Toledo, OH)
Chad Knaus is an excellent crew chief. JJ gives back impecable feedback during the race - better than most, if not all, drivers. Their communication levels are just far superior than their competition. Those 3 things combined lead to the 48's strength. We all know how Jr. and Eury Jr. stand in those areas. Don't you think so Terry?
Terry Blount (2:22 PM)
As I worte two weeks ago, I think the Juniors would be better working with other people.
Colin (Lake Worth, FL)
Whats your opinion of F1 and the diffuser situation? Innovation is a must in F1 but those teams did not follow the intent of the rule while the FIA has often made other teams change for having something against the spirit of the rule, even though it conforms to regulations.
Terry Blount (2:25 PM)
the diffuser thing is still up in the air, but F1 has made so many changes to the cars this year that it's hard to say those teams have a big advatntage just because of it. I expect we'll see several rules modifications from the FIA in the next few weeks.
Pete (NJ)
Over/under Bowyer winning 3 races this yr?
Terry Blount (2:26 PM)
Under, but I think he's a real contender for the title.
Devin (Dayton OH)
If Mr H ever made the switch, do you ever see him putting Chad with the 88 team. Just from an economic standpoint, every sport is at its best when the most popular team/person is at its best. Yankees, Cowboys, Tiger Woods...etc. Do you think it may ever come to this or are JJ and Chad inseperable at this point?
Terry Blount (2:27 PM)
Chad is going to the 88. No way,no how. If they ever separate, it would be because Chad moved up to an executive position.
Adam Darlington SC
Do you think Kahne needs to leave RPM to show his full talent
Terry Blount (2:28 PM)
Things are looking pretty good this season and Kasey is happy with the improvements the organzation has made.
Tony (Vacaville CA)
Do you think the Dinger will find enough sponsors to run the whole schedule? Thus far I think he's deserving of a full season ride.
Terry Blount (2:29 PM)
It would be a huge injustice if RPM had to shut down the 44. AJ is the surprise of the season. If I'm Reed Sorenson, I might be concerned right now.
Rick (Pittsburgh, PA)
Blount, never pegged you as a F1 fan. But don't you think the F1 has the right Idea about the Cars... They put forth spec's and overall standards, but let it up to teams to make the innovations. Do you think NASCAR needs to adopt that? I think they put way too many limitations on the Cars and really lessen the ability of teams to really get the most out of the CoT.
Terry Blount (2:33 PM)
I like what F1 has done. Watching the Australia race, it looks like it has caused more overtaking and more competition. NASCAR's goal with the COT was parity, making it easier for under-funded team to compete with the big boys. F1 is all about technology and the cars. NASCAR is more about the drivers, so they try to keep the cars the same. It's just a different philosophy.
Saul (San Diego)
From 13 to the 20th place, you have Burton, Montoya, Allmedinger, Earnhardt, Waltrip, Newman, Labonte, Vickers. From these, who do you think will get in and make the Top 12/the Chase?
Terry Blount (2:34 PM)
And you left out Mark Martin, who ranks below them. I's say Burton, Junior and Martin have the best shot at it, but I'd love to see AJ do it.
Cr8on
Why do you believe Bowyer is so unrecognized when he is always up there in the top 5/10?
Terry Blount (2:35 PM)
Because he's a quiet guy and doesn't win much. But people are starting to realize how good he is.
Marion Florence SC
Do you think Dodge will leave nascar and do you think thats why RPM hasnt switched to the R6 to see whats happens to dodge
Terry Blount (2:36 PM)
RPM just wants to make sure it has figured out all the reliablity issues before switching. Whether Dodge stays depends on whether Chrysler survives. That probably will require a merger with Fiat.
Chad (Las Vegas)
Can Jeff Gordon win the title without winning a single race?
Terry Blount (2:37 PM)
Absolutely, which is a flaw in the system. He would start the Chase behind the guys who wons some races, but he still could win it all without going to Victory Lane.
Jake (Orlando, FL)
Where do you think EGR is headed? up or down? Juan seems to be running well and looking good for a chase run if he can consistently finish the deal, but my boy Martin seems to be pretty frustrated on the in car radio with the cars he's been drivin and has had a 15-25th place car every week...
Terry Blount (2:40 PM)
Here ya go Jake. I think EGR is suffering through some transition pains, but Montoya's team is doing a good job in a new environment. Truex is getting frustrated, which isn't good for EGR because he's a free agent. Unlike the Petty/Evernham deal, which actually was a buyout, EGR was an actual merger and they still haven't figured out where everyone needs to be.
Adam Darlington SC
Do you think Kahne will make the chase and the Dinger will contend for it
Terry Blount (2:41 PM)
Yes and yes.
Wes, Salt Lake
Do you think RPM is lacking some hp since they have not switched to the R6?
Terry Blount (2:42 PM)
Maybe a tiny bit, but they didn't want to risk blowing engines early in the season and having drivers outside the top 35.
Cody (Charles City)
Do you see Dale Jr making the chase this year?
Terry Blount (2:42 PM)
I still think he will make the Chase because he has great equipment. But just making the Chase isn't enough.
Terry.B Brooklyn Ny
how do you think jr well do at texas
Terry Blount (2:43 PM)
He was 12th in the April Texas race last year and that's about where I expect him to finish this time.
sean AZ
What do you think about kurt busch and roger penske yelling at eachother on the radio im sure you heard it also?
Terry Blount (2:45 PM)
I wish I had a dollar for everytime a driver yelled at someone on the radio. I think Kurt wants that team to reach a championship level, but they aren't quite there. Granted, it isn't good to yell at the boss.
Saul (San Diego)
I love Mark Martin. He is like a Shark, quietly lurking and before you know it, he is there, where did he come from? The 48 and the 24 always on Top and the poor old 88 is a dysfunctional family. Last week when RH stood behind the 88 team, do you think that RH really think it will work? His statement reminded me of so many owners backing their coachesg only to see them fired a few weeks later.
Terry Blount (2:46 PM)
Could be, but Rick ia patient man. I did chuckle at him saying he was making sure Jr. got in better shape. Yeah, that'll do it.
Terry.B Brooklyn Ny
what do you think he's lacking?
Terry Blount (2:48 PM)
Chemistry and a fresh start with a new CC. And the same for Eury. He's a capable CC, but needs to move on and work with soeone who isn't his cousin.
Grant (Petersburg)
Do you see Kevin Harvic leaving RCR in the next year or so, and if so where do you see him going?
Terry Blount (2:49 PM)
Kevin said he contract was extended through 2010. I don't see him leaving RCR unless things really went down hill.
Nick Rolando (Orlando)
What's with the Mcmurray Stanford situation? He's not in trouble is he?
Terry Blount (2:50 PM)
I don't think he's in legal trouble like Castroneves. He is a victim like many other people who invested with Stanford. Jamie may have to go with a payment plan on his taxes.
jerry AZ [via mobile]
do you think nascar should shorten races?
Terry Blount (2:51 PM)
Absolutely. 500 miles are 100 too many except for Dayona and the Coke 600. And 500 laps are too many at the short tracks.
Saul (San Diego)
Going into Texas, what are you looking at that will have you piece together any questions you may have, or doubts or hunches?
Terry Blount (2:52 PM)
I relaly looking closely at how the Roush cars perform. Theyhave to pick it up this week.
Jimmy (FL)
Do you think either the 83 or 26 will make the chase?
Terry Blount (2:53 PM)
No. I thought Vickers had a shot before the season started, but I don't see it now.
Terry.B Brooklyn Ny
So You ThinK There not getting strong after the race a martinvill
Terry Blount (2:54 PM)
I htink Martinsville doesn't tell us if they are improving because he's always good there.
Micheal SC
Do you think Hornish is done after this year and who would drive the 77
Terry Blount (2:56 PM)
At this point, I'm not 100 percent sure Sam stays the whole year. Indy might come calling. I know Roger really likes Brad Keselowski, but Brad believes he has a future at Hendrick, or maybe with JR Motorsports if it moves up to Cup..
paul (nc)
all cars equal, who do you think would win the cup
Terry Blount (2:57 PM)
Kyle Busch if they didn't need to make any adjustments.
Josh (St. Louis, MO)
If Truex leaves EGR after this horrid season thus far, where would be the most logical place for him to wind up? Are there any rumours about him yet?
Terry Blount (2:58 PM)
There's alway rumors Josh. The 5 car is possible if Martin doesn't return, but he appears he will. Stewart would love to have MT if Tony could find sponsorship for a third car. Someone will make room for Truex, believe me.
Pete (NJ)
Looking at the schedule, where does Bowyer win his next race?
Terry Blount (2:59 PM)
Maybe NH this summer.
Jimmy (FL)
Who'll have a more accomplished career when all is said and done, McMurray or Vickers?
Terry Blount (3:00 PM)
Vickers would be my guess., but I like both these guys. Two of the best guys in the sport.
Carl Edwards (Columbia, MO)
Ready to see me win this weekend?
Terry Blount (3:01 PM)
Wouldn't shock me a bit fake Carl. You are the man at TMS. And I'm giving you your TMS Racer of the Year Award Wednesday night at the Texas Motorsports Hall of Fame Gala.
jerry AZ [via mobile]
what do you say to people who think nascar doesnt take skill?
Terry Blount (3:02 PM)
I'd tell them to get in their car, have 42 other cars next to them, and try to drive it 200 mph without soiling themselves.
Terry Blount (3:03 PM)
Gotta run folks. Have a great week. I'm out. Peace.
