Reggie Rankin (2:04 PM)
The Tarheels have been crowned National Champs and spring recruiting is heating up. Fire away with your questions!
Nick (Frankenmuth, MI)
Since last week college basketball nation has seen John Calipari take the job to Kentucky. We all know John Wall has been looking at Memphis and Duke heavily, with the coaching change is Kentucky now on Wall's list, and which school do you think Wall is leaning towards to attend in 2009?
Reggie Rankin (2:12 PM)
Thanks Nick, All the schools you have mention are in need of an impact player at the point. I also heard that UNC made a call to Wall. But anthing can happen in recruiting but I think it will come down to UK, UNC and then Duke. UNC especially with the way Lawson ended the season his NBA stock is very high right now.
Craig (PA)
Aside from the fact you look like the mentally handicapped guy Franco was taking care of for a season on Rescue Me, how do you think Penn State's NIT will affect recruiting?
Reggie Rankin (2:17 PM)
Craig, I think Penn State's run in the NIT really helped their recruiting. They already signed Tim Frazier from Texas who is a fast guard that can score and with the commitment from Taran Buie who had Big East offers they are off to a great start.
Connin(Myrtle Beach)
If X Henry gets out of his letter and goes to Kansas as he desires, will Lance end up with the Terps?
Reggie Rankin (2:20 PM)
If X Henry heads to KU, I can see Lance heading to Maryland. He would play right away and the Terps need a Big time scorer in this class. But Until X Henry makes it official don't count out UK.
Bryan
Reggie, are you tired of all the UK talk out there right now? I know I am loving it, go big blue
Reggie Rankin (2:22 PM)
Bryan, Heck No. I love talking about UK basketball it is the hot topic right now and I totally understand it. It will be fun to watch how things develop in Lexington.
Mitch (Sacramento)
Do you expect a late rally for Arizona's recruiting class now that Sean Miller is on board as head coach?
Reggie Rankin (2:25 PM)
Mitch, I sure do. Sean will hit the ground running. He has a great feel for evaluating talent and he relates well to his players. Once he locks in to the recruits on the West Coast and with a program like Arizona to sell he will do a great job.
Rich Pittsburgh PA
Hey man, With Blair gone, do you think Pitt will look for another big or use that scholarship to find a pg. I think the front court will be ok.
Reggie Rankin (2:28 PM)
Rich, great question, I think they will take the best available player inside or at the point. They can use help at both and you can never have enough good point guards or post players.
Dustin (Fredericksburg, VA)
Is Wall really as much of a Derrick Rose clone as Chad Ford says?
Reggie Rankin (2:30 PM)
Dustin, I think Chad Ford is pretty close. In my opinion Rose is a better shooter than Wall but they are both very athletic. Wall reminds me of Rajon Rondo.
Adam (Springfield, MO)
Reggie, I hear the Roy Williams is visiting Harrison Barnes today. I have heard he is favoring Duke right now. Is this what you are hearing?
Reggie Rankin (2:31 PM)
Adam, I did hear Duke was in the lead but when the National Champs make a push that could change in a hurry.
Adam (Charleston, SC)
Do you expect to see John Henson play the three next year at UNC?
Reggie Rankin (2:34 PM)
Adam great question. I see John Henson as a three man becuase of his great skill package. Henson's high school coach said Roy Williams has already discussed playing the three with Henson and after watching him play I agree. Henson just needs to add strength.
Chris (Scottsdale, AZ)
Where will Dominque Ferguson end up and do the Hoosiers have a shot at him?
Reggie Rankin (2:36 PM)
Chuck, I love Ferguson's game and I sure that Tom Crean is his new best friend since he has reopened his recruiting. I think that Hoosiers will be in the mix but Coach Cal is very impressive when he vistis with Kids and their familes so UK will still be tough to beat.
CJ (Orlando, FL)
Is Brandon Knight a future Gator?
Reggie Rankin (2:41 PM)
CJ, I think Knight is still pretty open. The Gators will be in hot pursuit but look out for UCONN, Miami and I heard that UNC was Knight's favorite college team. Stay Tuned !!
Richard Nixon (Watergate, DC)
What can you tell me about this Darius Smith fellow that UConn just recruited? Also, is UConn's 2010 class going to be weaker than normal because of the recruiting violations?
Reggie Rankin (2:46 PM)
Richard, Smith is a tough combo guard that is known for his defense. he attacks in transition will be a good fit for the UCONN running game. As far as violations go who knows, UCONN is a established enough program to survive and be just fine on the recruiitng trail.
Gerardo (Tempe, AZ)
Reggie, I heard Solomon Hill is reconsidering his verbal agreement with USC. Do you think he'll re-commit to Arizona now that Miller is there?
Reggie Rankin (2:47 PM)
Gerardo, I think it could happen once Hill makes it official you can bet your last dollar that Sean Miller will be on the case.
JT (DC)
What can you tell us about Penn State's latest verbal, Taran Buie?
Reggie Rankin (2:51 PM)
JT, He is a combination guard that can really score. He is fast and can attack off the dribble and knock down the open three. He can also slide over and help out at the point. A true high major guard that should be terriffic with Tim Frazier.
John (Dallas)
Why do you never mention Baylor when discussing where John Wall may go? I think they have as good a shot as anyone, yet you never include them among the possibilities (nor ever mention them).
Reggie Rankin (2:55 PM)
John, I understand what you are saying and I know Wall has a connection with Baylor but I think the programs that are recruiitng him are real heavy hitters that need a impact point guard and he is the best available in nthe country. I just don't think Baylor can pull it off.
Matt
How has recruiting changed since the days when Reggie Rankin was recruited by Ohio U?
Reggie Rankin (3:00 PM)
Matt, Wow I can't believe anyone remembers me. Matt, the AAU circuit was not as big and I didn't have so many people helping me and advising me like kids now days. Now days too many people in the kids ear and most of them are not for the best interest of the kid. That's the biggest change in my mind.
Calvin W (Clearwater, FL)
I was surprised to see that Butler signed a 6-10 player. Will Andrew Smith start right away or was he recruited to replace Matt Howard in two years?
Reggie Rankin (3:05 PM)
Calvin, I think Butler could play both togather. Howard is a true power forward and this kid is a center that is a big time rebounder. Time will tell how Smith adjusts to college but Butler might be adding a big line up option to their attack.
Coop (Orlando)
Reggie, how big of a Monday was it for UCF when they landed Marcus Jordan and Nik Garcia. Those 2 along with Clanton make for UCF having a nice class, do you think so? What expectations can I expect from UCF?
Reggie Rankin (3:08 PM)
Coop, good call. I love Clanton and Jordan and Garcia are talented enough to make an impact right away. Get excited and MJ might throw in some shoes and uniforms. UCF is looking good.
rerun (su)
how do you see Syracuse's off season playing out? do you think Flynn, Devo, and Harris are gone?
Reggie Rankin (3:09 PM)
rerun, I think Flynn has the best chance to go to the league but everyone else should stay in place.
Rich (Norwalk, CT)
We have heard alot about the recruits at Memphis, what about Daniel Orton and Hood at Kentucky, are they staying?
Reggie Rankin (3:14 PM)
Rich, I think Orton will stay and be the next Big Time true center for the cats and because Cousins can play the power forward position because of his skill.Hood is a Kentucky kid that has size and the ability to score from the wing. I think both will be there when the smoke clears.
Calvin W (Clearwater, FL)
Does Ohop State have another 7 footer in their sights?
Reggie Rankin (3:16 PM)
Calvin, I sure the Buckeyes are lokking for another post but their main focus must be to land a true point guard.
Scott (Home of the National Champs)!
What is the latest word on John Wall? Why hasn't he decided yet (I'm thinking some underlying issues). Also, can you give a quick word or two on Strickland, can he shoot the 3???
Reggie Rankin (3:20 PM)
Scott, I think with all the coaching changes Wall slowed things down even more. As far as Strickland goes he is not a point guard but an athletic wing that excels in transiton. His shooting has improved from behind the arc and the last time I saw him play he was terrific. The future of the Carolina transition game is in good shape.
Jason (Ann Arbor, MI)
Reggie, WIll Coach Beilein pull in better recruits in 2010 given how he has gotten the program back on track?
Reggie Rankin (3:22 PM)
Jason I think so. He has shown people that his system works and now he will be able to add high major skilled players.
Reggie Rankin (3:26 PM)
That's my time, thanks for all the great questions and continue to check the recruiting site for recaps of all the top travel team events in the coming weeks and months.
