hey folks...Jay and Dana will be chatting with you live again today ...Championship Game talk, Opening Day talk...Stephen A. and Skip are here for 1st and Ten... 1st down topics...how 'All Time Great' is this Tar Heels Team??...CC Sabathia got shelled in his Yankees debut....is anyone worried in Yankee-land?
Will (WV)
Well, UNC wins it all and Lawson and Hansborough were not the X factor...Ellington once again took the pressure off their backs. Mission accomplished!
John Madden
You know, it happened just like I said. North Carolina won the game because they scored more points. You have to score more than the other guys, because that's how you win. BOOM!
Steve out of KY but from MA
I know yesterday was just opening day and one can't predict the season from the outcomes, but were there any players that performed and you just thought ouch, this is not good? PS. Is the Red Sox game on ESPN today?
Dana Jacobson (9:54 AM)
Morning all. I'm back to being a wolverine. Sorry to see the spartans lose, but as much as I wanted them to win as I said yesterday I thought UNC would be too much. And they were. Once out to the early lead, I knew it was over and most of you probably did too! Be back with you all i a bit, Ty Lawson coming up at the top of the show
Moderator (9:55 AM)
some people are saying that about Sabathia today, Steve
jake pa
All the talk this year in college basketball was about the big east and how it had the best teams but the final consisted of a big 10 team and an ACC team. Was the big east overrated?
John pursell Phillipsburg New jersey
What would of happened if the tar heels would of had to face ateam like uconn with the height to match
Dana Jacobson (9:57 AM)
John, I stil think unc would be the champ this morning
ezra, east brunswick ,new jersey
D you really think UNC deserved a championship title this year?
Dana Jacobson (9:58 AM)
ezra, yes. they battled injuries like every other team out there and rose to the top. they had challenges and overcame. why wouldn't they deserve it?
mike indianapolis,in
With Lucas, Morgan,Roe,Allen,Lucious,Summers and Green coming back is State in a position to be like Carolina was after the Kansas loss in 08.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Have to say I turned the game off early last night. Looks like the two college basketball championship games this year will be duds. Overall both tournaments were big disappointments this year.
Will (WV)
Does any think the people in Michigan will ask for a separate bailout after last nights lost!? LOL.
joe sandusky ohio
i am a wolverine fan as well i wouldve liked to seen msu win that game so it wouldve energized the whole state and its sports teams. msu has nothing to be dissapointed about it was north carolinas title to loose once the tournament started. wait til next year spartans!
James Denver
Thank god for Steven A Smith finally someone with basketball knowledge on this show.
Alex (Parchment, Michigan)
Ok Skip is insane. This Tar Heel team could beat the back-to-back Florida team. last years Kansas team could even beat that Florida team.
Lance (New York, N.Y.)
Through one start, C.C. Sabathia has been everything I feared he would be. With a contract like that, he has to be the best pitcher in baseball. As it stands, he's not even the best pitcher in New York.
Kela, CRestview, fl
I find it funny how the ESPN analyst werent picking UNC to win at the beginning of the tournament But now are saying that they were the best team all year. Way to JUMP ON THE BANDWAGON GUYS!!!!!
Dana Jacobson (10:22 AM)
sadly i think msu will be disappointed b/c they didn't play up to their ability. the deer in the headlights look stephen a and skip talked about in first down reminds me of fab 5, 92 against duke in the title game...just took em off their game sadly
Matt (daegu, South Korea)
I woke up early this morning to watch the title game, but got back in bed after the end of the first half...it was THAT boring.
Dana Jacobson (10:23 AM)
matt kudos to you for trying!!!!
Chris (Lincolnton, NC)
Please, we must get Stephen A's reaction to his team of man crushes, the yankess. How does he feel this season will end up, after the big moneys flop yesterday.
Dana Jacobson (10:23 AM)
chris, it's coming up next in first and ten after smoltz
James Denver
Its hard to feel bad for the state of Michigan with all of the professional sports and collegiate titles has that state has won even in recent history.
Adam G Tampa, FL
The Big East was not overrated no team had 4 NBA prospects in the starting lineup like Carolina.
Moderator (10:25 AM)
Kela- check again...several ESPN analysts picked UNC to win it all at the beginning of the tourney...UNC didn't exactly surprise anyone
Dana Jacobson (10:25 AM)
adam, there's a smiliar question from jake that we'll get to with skip and stephen a at the end of first down in a few minutes
Will (WV)
So much for spending $441M in the offseason for NY. Do the Yankees need a bailout package?
Umor (detroit Mi)
Man I'm Bum out... Miachigan st. gets run over, the tigers suck, the pistons aren't the pistons, the lions ..HAH. Thank god for the Red Wings.
Dana Jacobson (10:25 AM)
will, yankees talk coming up
Adam G Tampa, FL
Skip chill a little buddy the Tar Heels would have annihilated the Gators. They match up at every position except point guard and I'd give the edge to Ty Lawson.
Chris (Tampa, FL)
The Yankees lost a game yesterday. So did half of MLB teams that played. Just because they overpaid for a pitcher that looks like a rapidly re-packed carry-on bag at airport security, doesn't make the Yankee loss any more meaningful in the standings than the loss of the Reds, Astros, or Cards.
Chris (Lincolnton, NC)
How do you feel Tyler Hansbrough will stack up in the NBA. For some reason I feel he will be forgotten at the next level.
Rob (State College, PA)
Skip, you have lost your mind. UNC beat Michigan State by a combined total this year of 52. To say that UNC deserves little credit and MSU deserves a lot of blame is ridiculous. They were punching above their weight from the Sweet 16 on. To say they are to blame to losing to the best team in college basketball then I have to question your knowledge of the game.
Jeremy (Happy Valley, Pa)
Are you kidding me Steven A? I've never heard you make so many excuses for a team, a little ridiculous. CC and the Yankees paid big bucks in the off season and looked terrible off the bat. I'm not saying they don't have time to turn it around, I remind you they MISSED the playoffs last year.
Scallinno (Florence, South Carolina)
Please tell Skip that Felton-McCants-Manuel-Jawad Williams-May with Marvin Williams and Scott off the bench would've more than likely destroyed this Heels' team. Felton-Lawson are pretty close, but nobody would be able to stop McCants, and May would handle Hansborough. Ed Davis is a monster, but Marvin was better, and Scott was better than everyone else off the bench except for Davis.
Jesse NC
Why would anyone be worried about CC? He gets off to a slow start every year!
Brendan (Boston)
Stephen A. said there would be pressure and he'd be scared if that happened in NY. But shouldn't it be scarier that it happened away from NY w/o any pressure according to Stephen? Yankees fans are the worst
Nathan (Columbus, OH)
I am not sure if Skip has watched Carolina all season but they have forced the turnovers and no team could match their intensity all tournament. Also, as a coach it is obvious that Skip has lived his life behind the desk and not on the court to blame Izzo. There is only so much you can do to get your team ready and only so many subs/timouts you can use. Try just once to get on the court and practice what you preach.
Christopher (San Antonio)
How great did Smoltz look in a Red Sox uniform?
Tramaine (Fayetteville,NC)
Will we talk about NBA Basketball Im tired of listening about college basketball...lets get to sum NBA..and the playoff race..Steven A. Smith is the BEST.!
Rob (State College, PA)
Skip, the Big East is a very good conference. However, you are sticking up for them, oh well it's just crazy March Madness. But UNC won every game by 12 points or more. Why didn't they fall into the craziness of March Madness? Truth is all Big East teams had weaknesses you could exploit. Louisville couldn't play slow, UConn couldn't play fast, and Pitt couldn't handle 2 good guards. UNC's biggest weakness was themselves, if they were off shooting they were vulnerable. If UNC was shooting an average % from the field no one was beating them.
matt baltimore
Did the Orioles play yesterday?? I heard the Yanks lost but to who?? Oh I forgot Ravens and O's don't win the other teams lose to them!!!!!
Matt (Springfield, VA)
Skip needs to look at the box score from December 3rd. Mich St coughed it up 22 times that game, so 21 turnovers last night is not an abberation! The Heels are just that good
James (New Orleans)
Spurs have no shot without Ginobili; then again I am a Hornets fan.
Moderator (10:37 AM)
Matt's got a little complex, I see
Dana Jacobson (10:37 AM)
matt, not to speak for skip i think more of what he was saying is that this state team was better than the december team. sutton was there, morgan was healthy and there...last nights team did not look like the one that beat uconn
R Mom (Spring Valley, NY)
Devout Yankee fan I am! However, looks like Joe Girardi as at it again. Way to mismanage! Wang should have been opening day starter!
Christopher (San Antonio)
As much as it pains me to say, the Spurs go out in the first round without Manu.
Sean Greenfield MA
Yes it is only opening day so Yankee fans should not worry about one lost. But CC is not the savior the Yankees think he going to be. Last year pitching in the N.L. central is alot different than the A.L. east...Yankees are in trouble.
Dana Jacobson (10:38 AM)
R Mom, I may be among the minority but does it really matter what happens on opening day? tigers world series year they tanked early and turned it up for the last 3/4 of the season
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Hey is Amy Nelson ever coming back to the chat? Jay and Dana do nice fill in work but Amy's dedicated.
Chris (Charlotte NC)
Just glad you have Steven A back on here to call out the ultimate flip flopper SKIP.....And I must say the yankees are loaded completely loaded they dont even need CC even though he took that XL check to the bank hey he usually gets better throughout the season Go TARHEELS.....!!!!!!
Matt
I'm not even a Yankees fan, but geez people, it's ONE game. If the first game of a season is indicative of how a team will do, then I'm gonna go to Vegas and lay down money on a Mariners-Orioles ALCS.
Dana Jacobson (10:39 AM)
Johnny, this is our new format. Amy is a fantastic baseball reporter and is working more on that front, writing on espn.com and you can see her on tv more now. We'll miss having her, but her talents are needed elsewhere. you're stuck with us!
Paul, Austin TX
Please please please make Steven Smith a regular on the show. Seeing him argue with Skip only once every week or two just isn't enough.
Joe (minocqua, wi)
did skip forget that the brewers rode cc to the playoffs last yr?
James (New Orleans)
Chris, Smoltz looked terrible in a Red Sox uniform! At least it's red and white (I'm a Braves fan).
Dana Jacobson (10:40 AM)
joe, if i remember from skip's comments yesterday he believes that cc is arod like in big time moments like an opening day game and the playoffs
Ft. Worth Texas
Top Story: Texas Rangers are leading the AL West. There ERA is below 6.50 for the first time in years. (I had to brag while I could)
sean from hawaii
hello guys...i have to say skin and stephen you two are the best. skip you know what your talking about. im just wondering why everyone thinks CC is so good. he was only good last year because he moved to the NL where no one has seen him before. dont you remember when he played for clevland...he sucked and choked alot esp. in the playoffs...just like A-rod
Dana Jacobson (10:40 AM)
way to go ft. worth!
Jim Wi
Jesse look at CC's numbers against the AL East. That alone would make me worried. Agree with you on his start yesterday.
Eric, Philly PA
Who do you think would win in a matchup of 2005 UNC Championship Team and the 2009 UNC Championship team?
pat (des moines,ia)
manu out is a killer, its going to take a mvp effert from timmy and tony and good 3 point shooting for them to win it all this year.
Lance (New York, N.Y.)
The Tim Duncan era will not have a fifth championship. With a window that is closing and no Manu Ginobili for the play-offs, only Chris Paul can even challenge the Lakers in the West now and in the future.
Dana Jacobson (10:41 AM)
eric, skip already touched on this. 2009. i'm in agreement. the 4 returners this year, would dominate. unc would have been on top more of hte year if not for hansbroughs injury...and going into the tourny we would have been singing more praise if not for lawsons toe. it made people wonder
john spartanburg,sc
Skip and Steven A you guys are the stuff. Love to watch you guys give it to each other. No holdn back.
Alex (Hartford, CT)
I've had enough of the Yankees payroll talk! They have proven that you can't buy a championship so why is it such a big deal? I think everyone talks about it to use it as an excuse if they win then they bought it if they lose they're a disgrace. It's kind of like the Red Sox not taking blame for losing every year they would pass blame on the "curse".
Will (West Virginia)
I cannot stand the western conference. With or without ginobli, the lakers will be going to the Finals.
Dana Jacobson (10:42 AM)
alex, pretty good point. no one seems to win anymore buying a team. detroit tried and failed. but as a non yankee fan who's lived in yankee country...it's fun to pick on the evil empire
Jim Huntsville alabama
Speaking of most dominate college teams what about Trinity winning 10 national titles
Dana Jacobson (10:42 AM)
jim, great point. the squash team. did a feature on them on espn a few months back
Curt: (Hartford, CT):
Good morning...first of all I want to say that even though I live in Connecticut, my heart bleeds Carolina Blue. Could the '05 championship team beat the '09 championship team? Perhaps...since Marvin Williams, who was the 6th man off the bench for that team, went 2nd in the draft before May, McCants, and Felton. Hansbrough did things at Carolina that Jordan didn't even do (like never lose at Duke) and be an All American all four years. On the subject of the women's game, if Louisville pulls off the upset, it will be among the greatest upsets in history...right up there with Joe's Namath's promise, the Red Sox beating the Yankees in 04, and the Giants beating the Patriots in Super Bowl XLII.
sean from hawaii
skip im a big spurs fan and i am so sad now. what does the spurs have to do now without ginobili. i think there is now chance for them to win it all now. manu was the key and now hes out. please tell me they still have a chance.
James Denver
The Spurs had no chance with the most over rated player in the league. With out him theyll be lucky to get out of first round. Denver is by far the second best team in the West now. New Orleans is a joke. Didnt my Nuggets just come into your building and destroy you.
Dana Jacobson (10:44 AM)
james and sean, 2nd down we're talking spurs. coming up shortly
Jay Crawford (10:44 AM)
you're right...spurs...cooked.. lakers and cavs... lakers in 7
Moderator (10:44 AM)
is anyone out there hungry?? you gotta stick around for this feature on this 'colossal burger' they're serving up at some minor league ballpark...
James (New Orleans)
I love that you guys chat with us Dana and Jay, please keep it up. Steven A and Skip are entertaining, although Steven A's high pitched making-excuses-for-Yankees voice can get annoying.
Jay Crawford (10:45 AM)
james, thanks bro. stephen a is filled with fire...lol
Christopher (Huntington, WV)
The Yankee's disgust me
Jay Crawford (10:45 AM)
christopher... hmmmmmm. you'r enot alone
Don Pa
Really, Does Skip accutally believe everything he says? He is totallt off the wall sometimes.
Jay Crawford (10:46 AM)
don, oh yea. he believes it all. scary huh?
Nick Prine Cherry Hill Nj
Skip, your opinions irritate my world I wish my dad didn't like you so I could watch some winnie the pooh think you could move to a later segment?
Daniel (Taylors SC)
First of all. Stephen A. Smith and Skip on 1 and 10 is entertainment! Michigan played scared the whole game. So Tarheels had that game when it started. Now to the Spurs. I don't think they have a shot in the West now Manu is out for the season. I didn't say they'd wouldn't move up in the playoffs. Just they definitely don't have a chance to win the West now.
Jay Crawford (10:47 AM)
skip is on winnie the pooh too. he's eyorre (sp)
wes(hixson,tn)
I LOVE ME SOME STEPHEN A SMITH AND SOME SKIP BAYLESS..YOU GUYS ARE GREAT!!!!
Jay Crawford (10:48 AM)
wes, they are fun to watch. even more fun off camera...they argue like a married couple!
Lance (New York, N.Y.)
While we're talking about burgers, what was the certain "je ne sais quoi" about the burgers at Citi Field that made them so good, Mr. Crawford?
Jay Crawford (10:49 AM)
lance, ridiculously juicy! best burger ive ever had. i need to find out where i can get one without going to a ballgame.
Adam G Tampa, FL
Hey Jay how ya doing buddy
Jay Crawford (10:49 AM)
what up adam... my back is poppin! long ball contest when?????
Vinny (Providence, RI)
I agree i love that you guys do this...I schedule my classes at school around being able to watch 1st take. I love nothing more than watching Steven A and Skip go at it. I am a major Skip fan, and think that he is nuts about the Yankee's. its day 1 we still have 99.3 % of the season left to play that must mean CC has no chance.
Jay Crawford (10:50 AM)
vinny, thanks for watching... spread the word!
Jeremy (Happy Valley, Pa
Jay what's up brother? You ready for some Big Ten football yet? You know you gotta come here this year, bump in that National Championship road? haha
Jay Crawford (10:51 AM)
jeremy, cant wait. and i'll be there! you guys were great to me and my family at the game there in 07. it will end the same way lol
Will (WV)
Jay!! I am eating some meatloaf as we speak and it looks like the Spurs in teh playoffs.
Zach (Va)
Even with Ginobli healthy, they weren't going to beat the Lakers in a seven game series. LA will show up for playoff time and march their way back to the finals.
Chris (Lakeland Florida)
All time dumb comment from Skip (Boy, that's saying something) "He'd already won a gold medal" I guess Tiger can take the weekend off then, eh Skip?
Ryan C. (San Diego, CA)
Skip's shirt is hurting my eyes. Stephen A.Smith is wrong about Manu but his shirt doesn't hurt my eyes.
Jay Crawford (10:55 AM)
will, we're talking nba careers for last nights tournament players in 3rd down. in 4th we'll get to jordan's election to the hof, get some perspective and hopefully a list of scoop jackson favorte mj moments
Sara (Michigan)
With Allen Iverson out for the Pistons, where do you think he is going to end up next season?
Jay Crawford (10:55 AM)
sara, stephen a says charlotte and atlanta are possibilities but hasn't really thought about it much at this point.
Jason (Morgantown, WV)
Skip, if there is no language in Ginobili's contract preventing him from playing for his national team, it's the SPURS fault that Manu is out for the year.
Dana Jacobson (10:57 AM)
Jason, is there some level of blame though in that in just signing a contract you are agreeing to do everything possible to help the team win, or at least that's the idea. so if something would jeopardize it, while i don't disagree with a contract clause...come on. manu isn't entirely innocent
Ian (Dayton,Ohio)
Allen is going to the Bobcats
Dana Jacobson (10:57 AM)
Ian, Allen's agent. Just kidding
Rob (State College, PA)
I think what Skip needs to realize is that in international countries it's all about playing for your country. In Argentina, if Lionel Messi would decide to say, no thanks, I'm not playing in the World Cup because of Barcelona. He would be considered a traitor to the people. Playing for your country is a huge honor, and if you are able to play, then you should play.
Umor (detroit mi)
Way ta go Stephan A. If you get the honor to represent your country at the olympics. you go and play for your country.
Dana Jacobson (10:58 AM)
Rob, just wrote a long thing on this but i do think there's some responsibility to the team that also pays your salary. To weigh the risks. Im not devaluing country pride...but he's a man split between 2 countries in a way
Eric, Denver
Manu would have needed surgery regardless once he tried playing for the spurs anyway. As a professional, He knows what he is doing, if he got hurt during the olympics agains weaker competition, it would have happened in the nba against the best in the world.
Dana Jacobson (10:58 AM)
Eric, what if the time would have put him through an nba finals though?
Zach (Va)
Does that burger come with a free hospital visit?
James (New Orleans)
As Americans we can sometimes undercut the importance of playing for your country (WBC?). A lot of countries see it as a big deal, and that should be respected.
Dana Jacobson (10:59 AM)
zach, cbs sunay morning show did a great piece on a place that has heart attack burgers. can't remember where it was but they had waitresses in nurses outfits, the male employees in drs. they have a fry bar instead of salad! i'm sure if you google heart attack burger something will come up. it was great
Vinny (Providence, RI)
Dana, speaking about food, I go to Johnson & Wales University, which is know for its cullinary, and me and my roommate have all of our class scheduald so that we can see 1st take. we make a huge breakfast buffett and enjoy and watch the show.
Adam G Tampa, FL
Thanks for the invite to Citi Field Jay, we could have did the home run derby in half an hour and be done.
Todd (Louisville, KY)
Ty Lawson will end up as a premiere point guard in the NBA. A Deron Williams, Chris Paul type. Write it down.
Dana Jacobson (11:00 AM)
vinny, you're making us hungry!!! so is the burger although this is pretty overboard. we could use a breakfast buffett here. this mornign i had peanuts and a diet coke. no time!!!
Chris White (NC)
I've been sitting here trying to picture any of UNC's players from this years team beaing a star in the NBA. And I just can't do it. Am I wrong aboutt this?
wes(hixson,tn)
LOVE THE SHOW!!!!JAY, YOU AND DANA DO A WONDERFUL JOB...YOU MAKE IT FUN AND ENJOYABLE!!!!!GOOD JOB!!!
Dusty (doylestown, pa)
why is everyone making a big deal about Hansbrough going back from one more year? he didn't have a choice! he will not make it in the NBA and will not be drafted high if at all. he is undersized for a center and cannot consistently make shots outside of the paiant to be a power forward. can he really match up against Duncan, Amare, KG or any other PF in the game? Tyler will not average higher than 4 points, 2 boards for his career if he makes to the NBA.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
I think Hansbrough has a better NBA career than Sam Bowie and Greg Oden. I also think Lawson is the better player in terms of NBA ability.
Dana Jacobson (11:04 AM)
vinny - did you guys hear your shout out?? sorry i didn't remember the school!
Will (WV)
Point...game....match! Season over in San Antonio.
Curt (Hartford, CT)
It is waaay too early to speculate on who will make a good pro......there are too many factors in determining who will do what...the right coach, right team, and the effort of the player will go into how successful they will be...the first thing they all have to realize is they will all go to some really sorry teams and will lose more in their first fourth of an NBA season than they did in their entire collegiate career.
Dana Jacobson (11:05 AM)
curt, this is what we do. its why guys like skip and stephen a are here - to speculate!!! just enjoy it...laugh when they're wrong and give credit when they're right.
Charlie (Augusta, ME)
Feeling Nestalgic this morning: Ken Griffey Jr. homered in his return to the Mariners
Dana Jacobson (11:06 AM)
charlie, stephen a, skip and I all can't believe that griffey has never gotten rid of that "belly". imagine what he could have done had he been more in shape. stephen a was aghast this morning
Vinny (Providence, RI)
Dana thank you so much you just made out day. If you to ever want someing better than a dite coke and some nuts you let me me know.
Dana Jacobson (11:07 AM)
thanks vinny
Scott (PA)
Didnt skip pick LSU to beat UNC haters hate winners win
Jay Crawford (11:08 AM)
he did sscott..he did.... oops!
Steve (Richmond, KY)
I don't think Sabathia's start was a big deal, however if he pitches for the month like he did last season in April hw will be in trouble in N.Y., whish is great news for this guy out of Mass
Jay Crawford (11:09 AM)
steve, you're right. cc hates cold weather. that can be a problenm in october....
Rick (Rice Texas)
Heck I think Hansbrough will probably have a better career then Laettner
Joe (minocqua, wi)
i'm sorry but i'm not on the blake griffen bandwagon other than being able to dunk the basketball what else can he do?#1 in draft?
Henry(waterbury, ct)
If Tyler wants to be a pro in the NBA, then he should have the right to do that. Just because he wont be a superstar in the NBA doesn't mean he can't make a living. Contrary to popular belief not everyone in the NBA is a "superstar". The NBA would not have the Lebron James' if it were not for the Anderson Varejao
Jason (Morgantown, WV)
Hansbrough will make his living in the NBA rebounding and at the free throw line (86%!).
Dre(Memphis)
I think Green from UNC could be a above average player, he the most athletic. Every else is a role player at best
Steve (Richmond, KY)
Is the Red Sox game being broadcasted by ESPN since it was postponed, not listed anywhere?
Dana Jacobson (11:11 AM)
steve, not sure. if you go to espn.com and click on the tv listings or even just go to the mlb scoreboard - it will show if it's an espn game.
john spartanburg,sc
hey dana u need a raincoat up there with all that spit flying in the air (skip n StevenA).
Chris (Lincolnton, NC)
Hansbrough will be an nba flop, and blake griffen will only do a little better.
Dana Jacobson (11:11 AM)
they're a bit demonstrative but it's always fun!
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
If Skip's MLB picks work anything like his NCAA picks did, I might as well not even watch the Braves this year.
Dana Jacobson (11:12 AM)
johnny, he did pick the phils last year
Adam G Tampa, FL
I think Tyler Hansborough will be a decent 4 at the NBA level averaging around 10 pts 8 rebs, he'd be a good compliment to Timmy Duncan.
Curt (Hartford, CT)
Dana, I understand...I just sometimes think we get too caught up in What If (granted, I do have a Carolina bias)...besides, I picked UNC to win the whole thing and I was right..Skip didn't pick them so that makes me feel GOOD. At least you are probably feeling a little better today than you did sixteen years ago when Chris Webber called that timeout :)
Terrell, Chicago
I don't see any of these Tar Heels making a real impact in the league! Hansbrough will be the next Adam Morrison, Ty Lawson will have a solid career as a back up but it will take him a few years to get to that point. Everyone else...well, let's just say I hope that more Jobs open up before they graduate!!!
efosa ( st.louis,mo)
hey as for manu ginobibli, injuries do happen,i mean its an honor to play for your country even though you might have won the gold the previous games, there is really no clear cut solution to this, injuries happen all the time off and on the court
Dana Jacobson (11:13 AM)
curt, i know what you're saying. i have days like that where i am sick of the speculation. And remember, you can change the channel!! I finally am able to hear about the timeout and not have my stomach feel like there's a pit in it. BUT when i see it, the pit is still there. Duke loss was worst for me in some ways, I was there in minneapolis the fab 5s freshman year...had gone to lexington to watch them beat osu. so sad
john spartanburg,sc
guess im not smart enough to get my stuff posted. thanks
Chris (Lakeland Florida)
Blake Griffin going to the NBA? Well, if you're going to bang your head on a backboard you may as well get paid for it....that hurts. (I assume)
Dana Jacobson (11:13 AM)
john, i just posted you i believe!!! come on.
James (New Orleans)
Also Jay, you are one of the few true, blue baseball fans and show some passion for the sport with your reporting instead of some of the other people I know who act like it's a hassle to report baseball. Us baseball fans thank you for that! You even made me enjoy the Yankees/Mets field ratings, even though I'm a Yankees hater and Braves fan.
James Denver
I love how guys like Skip for years tried to crush American players for not playing on team USA NBA players in the Oplympics and MLB players in the World Championships of Baseball. But now ever sense Mark Cuban started complaining about Dirk and Steve Nash playing for there home countries a couple years ago its selfish for foriegn players to play. Im guessing as a young man growing up in Argentina its more of a dream to win a gold for your country then a NBA championship for a city youve never heard of.
Jay Crawford (11:14 AM)
James, many thanks dude! i love the game. cant get enough, and im glad my passion for it shows on air.
AJ (Pittsburgh)
The Pirates are 1-0. Anyone predicting a turn around season?
Dana Jacobson (11:15 AM)
james, i'm not saying don't play. i'm saying consider everything. and guys not playing for the us wasn't for injury/health consideration always, some just wanted time. and some just didn't care.
Jay Crawford (11:15 AM)
aj, i predict the pirates will play 162 games this year and will lose more than they win...lets walk, then run. i hate that the steel city has been absent of meaningful baseball since the early 90's
Moderator (11:15 AM)
looking ahead to our 4th Down, Stephen A. and Skip pay homage to Jordan's Hall of Fame induction... Scoop Jackson listed his top 10 MJ moments on ESPN.com. What is your favorite Michael Jordan moment?
Dana Jacobson (11:15 AM)
jorge cantu coming up...i'll be back
Steve (Richmond, KY)
I have to say I have been a fan of the show for years, although I still miss Woody Page. This interactive chat is great, first time I have been involved.
JERRY C, COLUMBIA, MO
I'm from a small town close to poplar bluff, MO....i watched tyler play high school basketball and now saw him finish college...i really like him alot but he has no shot at the next level...sorry psycho T
Jay Crawford (11:16 AM)
come back anytime steve! we're glad to talk to our viewers. you guys rock!!!
Matt (Springfield, VA)
Ironically i think the best pro on that team is a guy that didn't start...but Ed Davis has everything in him to be a stud. I've heard he's coming back next year (any confirmation?) but when he does go pro he'll be a top 10 pick and a star
Rob (State College, PA)
Lawson can be a very good PG in the NBA. Green can be a very good 6th man in the NBA as well. Ellington can rip it up from 3. Outside of that maybe Hansbrough could be a good player for depth. I see him as a late 1st round player, so hopefully for him he gets on a good team and adds some more depth to a team.
Morris, San Diego, Ca.
Steven A., you're a wild man. Skip, you thought LSU was gonna take Carolina out, now you're trying to save face not giving the CHAMPS their props. You're sounding like T.O. now. You're bigger than that Skip.
Bryan (Miami, FL)
Whether its this year or next, Ed Davis could end up being the best NBA talent on the Heels team. Good hands around the rim, excellent defender, and the potential to add weight make him a big man NBA execs covet.
Jay Crawford (11:16 AM)
morris, skips hair just caught on fire. you compared him to t.o.!
Jessica (New York)
With Blair, Hansbrough, and Griffin leaving college, who do you think will do the best in the nba? Which team suffers the most from their loss?
Jason (Morgantown, WV)
Where is the Pittsburgh Pirates coverage? Perfect record and sitting in first place! ;-) They had a nice come from behind late victory at St. Louis.
Jay Crawford (11:17 AM)
i like griffin of the 3 jesica, but i like ty lawson more than all of them.
R Mom (Spring Valley, NY)
The Pirates win the Pennant...The Pirates win the Pennant! Yeah Right!
Jay Crawford (11:17 AM)
r mom, hey, look at the rays! you just never know.
Vinny (Providence, RI)
Blake is such an explosive player there, and an inteligent player he will make just as big an impact on a team as Shane Battier did for the Rocktes
Vince (Houston, TX)
Last time Bow Wow was on ESPN First Take, he looked really nervous to me like he was intimidated by the knowledge of sports by Skip! His feet were shaking and he had sweat running down his face like the Niagara Falls!
Jay Crawford (11:18 AM)
vince, a little knwn fact, we keep it 100 degrees in the studio and there were snakes at his feet...lol... jk....hey, you;d sweat too if you were sitting across skip.
Adam G Tampa, FL
Yeah Jay we can see your passion for the game thru the air great work buddy. YOu guys have me and my friends thinking of putting a panel together like first take lol
Jay Crawford (11:19 AM)
rep it up adam!
lorrell thomas (los angeles ca)
whos tyler gonna out rebound... kevin love
Jay Crawford (11:20 AM)
lorell...lol
James (New Orleans)
Jay, do you play fantasy baseball? I either never heard you talk about it, or have forgot it and mixed it up with the plethora of fantasy stuff I've been going through these last few weeks. If so, how'd you do opening day? I went 3/23 at batting, my guys let me down, and some big names! I have hope though.
Jay Crawford (11:20 AM)
s, i dont. between here, and playing baseball for real, im booked. i help my 17 yr old son draft and move players so i stay in it that way.
Vince (Houston, TX)
Ok Jay, i'll give you the benefit of the doubt, and take your word for it. LOL!
R Mom (Spring Valley, NY)
Jorge Cantu...can do. You know that is coming. I Bet Skip says it first.
Jay Crawford (11:21 AM)
good one r mom...i'll tell skip
Pete (NC)
Just wondering, but are any of the chatters here NBA scouts? Do they get paid to evaluate potential? Where are the scouts for Portland who drafted Bowie ahead of Jordan? Enough with all of the haters who think they know everything. Let's just wait and see how they turn out, ok?
Christopher (San Antonio)
Got to love the MLB Extra Innings Package, Red Sox game starts at 3!
Jay Crawford (11:22 AM)
chris, ive had it for 7 yrs. couldnt live without it
Bryan (Miami, FL)
With so many people out there who disagree with Skip, First Take should do an auction for the right to debate Skip for a day on the show. Proceeds go to your favorite charity.
Jay Crawford (11:22 AM)
bryan, great idea! i'll pass it on....
Jason (Morgantown, WV)
I think Bow Wow did a good job doing his research (or at least having someone do it for him). He was prepared, but out of his element. I'd like to see if Skip would sweat performing on a stage in front of thousands!
Jay Crawford (11:25 AM)
great point jason!
AJ (Pittsburgh)
Jay, I miss baseball in Pittsburgh too. We have such a beautiful park, it is a pity we haven't won since the early 90's. What do you think the Bucs need to do to pull a Marlins?
Jay Crawford (11:26 AM)
draft smart. sign cant miss kids long term. they cant compete in the free agent world. see the twins, indians and rays for models...its doable.
Joe (minocqua,wi)
i like having skip on he likes to go so far back in history i'll start callin him bert sugar
Jay Crawford (11:26 AM)
hysterical joe!
Christopher (San Antonio)
I played baseball from age 8 to high school and as you know Jay, baseball has alot of superstitions. The first year I bought the extra innings package, the Red Sox (my favorite team) win the world series in 04. I felt obligated to buy it the next year and each following year!
Jay Crawford (11:27 AM)
ha! why cant my indians get some???
Adam G Tampa, FL
Stephen A this is for you, The Orlando Magic are the NBA's version of the Tampa Rays. (Great young talent and key role players) They have the big man in the middle that controls the lane, guards that can penetrate and kick it out to shooters. Skip I'm with you the Magic are going to be a scary team come playoff time and they play the best collective D on King James. Hey Jay did you see your boy Varejao get dunked on by MAVS center Hollins 2 Sundays ago? That's the problem in Cleveland there big men are soft. D Howard and the Magic may shock the world.
Jay Crawford (11:27 AM)
i saw it adam!
Robb (Fort Lauderdale, FL)
Great interview with Cantu today. The Marlins have been overlooked in the NL East as possible division winners. Don't they have the best rotation in the National League? I'm looking forward to another dominant performance by Josh Johnson tonight! Go Fish!
Joe, Fort Collins Colorado
Skip and Stephen started the conversation off looking like a couple in counseling trying to be careful. Nice to see they shook that off eventually...
Chris (Lakeland Florida)
AJ "What do you think the Bucs need to do to pull a Marlins?" A DeLorean and a flux capacitor.
Jay Crawford (11:28 AM)
chris! love it....
R Mom (Spring Valley, NY)
J-E-T-S! Jets, Jets, Jets!
Rick (Rice Texas)
Heh I love it when they get worked up...almost sounds like they are gettin ready to come to blows sometimes.
Josh (Orrville, OH)
guys, i'm 24 years old and the 79 national championship game was my first introduction to college basketball. granted i didn't watch the game but my dad would tell me all about the bird v. magic game. i don't know about anyone else but for me that game was my introduction to college basketball.
James Denver
This is sports talk. Thats what we do predict. What were not suppose to make predictions or give opinions thats the point.
David (Waco)
How about Texas' performance on opening day? Could this be a sign that the Rangers finally are pulling themselves out of their longtime slump?
Terrell, Chicago
The idea was brought up at a Hall of Fame interview but Could Jordan really beat Magic in a 1 on 1???
Jimmy richmond,va
On ed davis his dad is Terry Davis who played at Virginia Union and in the NBA. He and his mom will make sure that he leaves when it is time. With that said don't be suprised if he stays 4 years
Jay Crawford (11:31 AM)
david, the rangers can rake now. if they get millwood to look like that all year...watch out...it could be a long hot summer for the rest of the al west.... love josh hamilton! superstar...
Jason (Morgantown, WV)
Michael Jordan should be inducted to the Hall of Fame by himself. The other inductee's should have their ceremony at a later time. Jordan was that special of an athlete.
Jesse (Johnstown, PA)
Hey Jay- How about selling the Pirates to Mark Cuban? He's a Pittsburgh native who has shown his ability to put together good teams. We've been waiting 17 years for a winning season.
Justin (Lapeer, Michigan)
So whats everyone else think about the 2009 hall of fame. Each player thats going to be inducted could be arguably the best at there position ever and thats including Jerry Sloan at coach. GREAT CLASS THIS YEAR!!!!!
Dana Jacobson (11:31 AM)
jimmy, would be a breath of fresh air. i have nothing against guys leaving early except when they aren't ready - mature enough or their game. I do understand guys who need the money..but i wish there was an in between. But we know that will never happen.
Jay Crawford (11:32 AM)
he wanted the cubs but struck out. not sure baseball wants mark. his run in dallas as an elite might be over so it might be cool. he would be a great bb opener...
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
OK, I'm going to claim this one as my own: When Austin Jackson makes it to the bigs and hits a HR, I'd like to hear, "A-JAX CLEANS UP!"
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
OK, I'm going to claim this one as my own: When Austin Jackson makes it to the bigs and hits a HR, I'd like to hear, "A-JAX CLEANS UP!"
Christian (Charlotte, NC)
Don't worry about any of the Tar Heels draft status, they'll always have a place on the Charlotte Tar Heels...um, excuse me, I mean Bobcats.
Rick (Rice Texas)
I wished David .....where is the rest of the pitching staff....if they can have some consistently decent pitching ....maybe
Chris (Florida Alum in Omaha, NE)
Stephen A. has it wrong and Skip had it RIGHT! The 2-peat Florida team would not have lost to UNC. If UNC was just so "Great" why is this not the senior teams 2nd title from last year? Furthermore you have Florida do it the first time with FRESHMAN and then again with Sophomores and yet you have UNC that could only do it with Senior leadership after 3 years of trial and error! Give the 2-peat Gators the credit they deserve especially when 2007 was the Year of the Gator! If OSU had done it, or Michigan had done it, or USC or anyone else it would have been the greatest thing since sliced white wonder bread but Florida does IT and no one gives them credit! Something no one else has done, own the Men's Fball & Bball National Title in the same year!
Robb (Fort Lauderdale, FL)
Great interview with Cantu today. The Marlins have been overlooked in the NL East as possible division winners. Don't they have the best rotation in the National League? I'm looking forward to another dominant performance by Josh Johnson tonight! Go Fish!
Rick Porcello (Toronto)
I am amazing, watch me 1-2-3 the Blue Jays line-up tomorrow.
Pete (NC)
Tell James that my point was that people talk like they're giving facts and won't listen to any other arguments. And I'm tired of the "Tyler won't be good in the NBA" argument because that's the only thing haters can say about him because he was a stud in college.
Chris (Lakeland Florida)
David, Until Texas learns to pitch they'll reamain in their "slump"
Christopher (San Antonio)
"Come on", I'm Sal the sports guy!
Shaq Brooklyn NY
Skip is the man. But Stephen A is so much better.
David (Front Royal,VA)
I really believe that last night UNC played within itself doing what they do best. I also believe that MSU did so much to get to the final game that it appeared they had nothing left in the tank for UNC
R Mom (Spring Valley, NY)
Chris (Lakeland, Florida) they will probably need that hover board as well!
Rick (Rice Texas)
Actually my first memory of college basketball was Georgetown vs Villanova.
Vince (Houston, TX)
Skip is no match for me...I stumped the Schwab! jk
Pete (NC)
Well whaddaya know, the Cubs are in first place, the Yankees are in last place, and the Heels are National Champions. What a great day to be a sports fan!
Dana Jacobson (11:33 AM)
Chris, at the time it did. I remember covering it. BUT you are right in retrospect the feat doesn't get the attention it deserves. Florida did what michigan tried to do but could not. life isn't fair what can i tell you
Michigan Fan (Wolverine Country)
Heck yeah, I would pay 10,000 just to use my catch phrase on Skip. GO BLUE!
Jeff (Michigan)
I get it. With a buckeye in a chatroom a Michigan fan can't have his say.
Jeremy P. (Winter Springs, FL)
I agree with skip. Ed davis will be on of the best to come out of north carolina in a while.
Jay Crawford (11:34 AM)
hmmmmmmmm go bucks. see scoreboard.... lol
Jerry C:(Columbia, MO)
well, skip how bout my cards this year
Josh (Orrville, OH)
i still have a beef with something that Skip said yesturday. he said that mj was the greatest winner in all of sports. skip have you forgot about a guy named Bill Russell. jordan was the greatest "player" in basketball history, but Russell is and always will be the greatest winner.
James (New Orleans)
I agree Jason. Not only is it appropriate for Jordan, it's also in respect of the other inductees not being overshadowed. Then again, people would start complaining about an unfair advantage there, and saying how future inductees who were larger than life in their sport should be solo-inducted.
James Denver
The Magic will shock the world of people who know anything about basketball by getting out of first round. Beating the Cavs or the Celtics good luck with that with Skip to my lou as your point. Is that why Skip all the sudden likes the Magic.
Dana Jacobson (11:34 AM)
jeff, i have your back. but if you're talking about jay, he gives wolverines the floor all the time.
Chris (Lakeland Florida)
The Marlins are really quite an organization. A revolving door of talent, they ship off guys they can't afford like Dontrelle Willis and Miguel Cabrera with guys like Hanley Ramirez and Cameron Maybin (my 2009 NL ROY pick). The downside of course is there are more people attending my 5 year old's t-ball games, but these guys can flat out evaluate talent.
Joe (minocqua,wi)
best mj moment was older mj block against ron mercer showin he still had it
Adam (New Orleans, LA)
Why is no one talking about Courtney Paris giving back her scholarship?
Curt (Hartford, CT)
Dana, I was a freshman in college 16 years and a few days ago when the 93 championship was played..I was the only person in the room who was a Tar Heel fan...and the only one who went away happy that night...but I still see tapes of our Final Four losses to Kansas last year, to Arkansas in 95 and especially in 94 when we lost to Boston College in the second round and somebody broke the backboard on a dunk All in all, yesterday was a beautiful day in Tar Heel nation, a national championship and Michael Jordan getting into the HOF... By the way, the Mets will go 162-0 :) just kidding, but after 23 years, the Amazings are going to win it all..I have faith
Jay Crawford (11:35 AM)
adam, we did that yestrday
Adam G Tampa ,FL
If the Magic shock the world and make the NBA Finals am I invited to Bristol Jay?
Jay Crawford (11:35 AM)
sure adam!
Josh (Orrville, OH)
jay i'm an ohio guy, where did you go to high school?
Jeff (Michigan)
My favorite Michael Jordan moment was his acting in the Space Jam movie. I can still play out that game winning dunk in my mind, even though it's been 10 years since I've seen it.
Jay Crawford (11:35 AM)
sandusky perkins! orrville huh? bob knight country no?
AJ (Pittsburgh)
Jay- Here is a video montage of all the things that happened since the pirates had a winning season. Pretty sad... http://www.arsenic.net/archives/history_since_the_pirates_last_had_a_winning_season.php
Adam (New Orleans)
Will Courtney Paris give her scholarship back?
Dana Jacobson (11:36 AM)
curt, when eric montross was in the break with us yesterday we did a little 93 talk. my pain being his joy. wish it were different but i feel for the schools that never have those memories, i feel for the kids at michigan now suffering through down years in both programs. basketball turning around and hopefully football will follow, but those memories are why you're a sports fan.
Jay Crawford (11:36 AM)
she says she will...all 64k
Adam G Tampa, FL
Because Courtney Paris is going to the WNBA
Jay Crawford (11:36 AM)
yep
Rick (Rice Texas)
Hansbrough was great in college but so was Laettner is all I am saying based on past experience I think he will be better then Laetnner but have a big impact in the league? I don't think so.
Morris, San Diego, Ca.
The only people who think the office pool makes the tourny are people who's college teams are sorry. Skip, please don't say anything stupid about MJ. You're right about LeBron, but don't lose credibility by dissing MJ.
R Mom (Spring Valley, NY)
Jason (Morgantown, WV) I Think you hit the nail on the head. Tyler Hansbrough is going to be a beast in the NBA, especially on the boards. That kid has hands as strongs as vice grips.
Todd (Louisville, KY)
Greatest MJ moment? The title after his father passed. No contest. Every human alive that has known or loved their dad had to be touched by that moment.
Adam G Tampa, FL
Jay this just in Michael Jordan will sign a 10 day contract if the Bobcats make the playoffs..... he will be guarding Lebron James
Jay Crawford (11:37 AM)
id watch adam!lebron would have his hands full...lol
Josh (Orrville, OH)
yes sir, and believe me our small town is proud that he was born and raised here
Jay Crawford (11:38 AM)
as you should be josh!
James (New Orleans)
Jeff, after I saw Space Jam in theaters, I explained and re-enacted the stretchy-arm dunk scene to all my fellow 2nd grade class mates.
Jason (Morgantown, WV)
On her WNBA salary, Courtney could pay it all back in at least 15 years. ;-D
Adam G Tampa, FL
This just in Michael Jordan will sign a 10 day contract if the Bobcats make the playoffs..... he will be guarding Lebron James
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Jay: You have a 17-year old son? You don't look old enough to have a child that age. Must be clean living.
Jay Crawford (11:39 AM)
why thank you johnny! i have a daughter in college as well. freshman, im 43, but live in an oxygen chamber 18 hrs a day....lol
Vince (Houston, TX)
I'm curious to know what Skip and Stephen A. really think about Women's NCAA basketball.
Jay Crawford (11:39 AM)
vince, they think you conn is too good to care about it much this year.
Joe, Corpus Christi, Texas
Do you guys think that all of this Lebron talk in regards to being the next Michael will end if the Cavs, as the favorites, do not win the NBA title?
Jay Crawford (11:40 AM)
joe, no.
Adam G Tampa, FL
Hahaha..seems like it MJ still talks a mean game
Christopher (San Antonio)
Why is the Indiana basketball coach talking about football?
Jay Crawford (11:40 AM)
he is creen's clone
R Mom (Spring Valley, NY)
Go Nittany Lions!
Dana Jacobson (11:41 AM)
christopher, it's our favorite separated at birth on our show - bob glauber from ny newsday and tom crean...that was bob glauber
Jason (Morgantown, WV)
Patrick White will be a steal for whatever NFL team drafts him in the second or third round.
Dana Jacobson (11:41 AM)
with the wildcat all over, pat white could be a great addition and yes quite possibly a steal
Jay Crawford (11:41 AM)
except when they play ohio state!
Jerry C:(Columbia, MO)
I LOVE COLD PIZZA FOR BREAKFAST!!!!!!!!!!! THANKS JAY, DANA, AND SKIP I DO MISS WOODY TOO THO
Christopher (San Antonio)
Best MJ moment, dropping 63 on the Celtics in the Garden in the playoffs. You could tell he was a man among boys back then!
Ian (Dayton,Ohio)
I can"t wait for sept 13th when Ohio St loses to USC again..I bet Jay can"t wait either
Dana Jacobson (11:42 AM)
Ian - those are fighting are fighting words for jay
Jay Crawford (11:42 AM)
oh i cant wait! i cannot wait!
Jason (Morgantown, WV)
MJ will always talk a little smack. He's probably the most competitive athlete ever. It was part of what made him so great, losing at anything isn't an option for him.
Jay Crawford (11:43 AM)
absolutely jason
Chris (Lakeland Florida)
From a Mountaineer alum, Jason I don't know. It's really going to depend on what type of system Pat White ends up being drafted into. He's not going to be a #1 on any team in the NFL but he does bring a very unique skill set. Think Mike Vick without the character flaws.
Jay Crawford (11:43 AM)
question: michael jordan, magic johnson, one on one...who you got room???
James Denver
Jay I thought you were 17. Will flattery get my comments posted more.
Jay Crawford (11:44 AM)
james, yes. lol
Dre(Memphis)
Pat White will be a steal bust, he shouldn't even be considered until the fifth round
Ronnie (Laurel,DE)
People say Hansbrough will not make it in the NBA, but what about D. Blair. Hansbrough did develop a mid-range shot. Blair will find that he will need to do more than just bully people in the paint in the NBA.....just look at Michael Beasley
Dana Jacobson (11:44 AM)
chris its why he could be a great addition and if he's willing to play receiver...hmmmm
Justin (Lapeer, MI)
Ive had about enough of the LBJ being the next michael. There will never be another michael and we've been hearing it since the first next michael in grant hill. If he wouldnt have gotten hurt he would have been AMAZING!!!!
Rick (Rice Texas)
Unfortunately for Lebron although he is still growing as a player...not sure he has the team to win it all at this time. So if you are going by championships which most people do to choose all time greats...he may end up being sadly lacking though he still has a long time yet in the league.
steven(columbus ohio)
how do you think players like kobe lebron howard would do in the ncaa tournement if they were to wenr on to college
Dana Jacobson (11:45 AM)
all would have won multiple titles.
Christopher (San Antonio)
Doesn't MJ have a son that plays college basketball?
James (New Orleans)
I take MJ! ...Magic.
Rick (Rice Texas)
Michael Jordan
Joe (minocqua,wi)
jay i thought whenever u speak of ohio state ur suppose to put a the in front of it...go badgers
Dana Jacobson (11:46 AM)
the university of wisconsin... hmmmmm
Josh (Orrville, OH)
jordan, jordan, jordan......he's the best one on one player in history. magic is good but he's a better passer than scorer.
Pete (NC)
In their hay day? I have Mike, no questions asked. He could shoot lights out or drive to the hoop. Magic needs someone to pass it to.
Moderator (11:46 AM)
Christopher, he's got a kid playing ball at Illinois, Jeffrey
Justin (Lapeer, MI)
Best michael moment i think was the crossover that iverson put on him as a rookie. I can never remember jordan gettin burned like that cause his defense was impecable. Wow thats a bad moment to have for him since hes got SOOOOO many good ones.
Adam G Tampa, FL
My favorite MJ moment besides the shot on Bryon Russell (who?) was the game he annihilated the Knicks at MSG and posterized Patrick Ewing.
Curt (Hartford, CT)
Magic vs. MJ? Jordan...hands down...even Magic will admit that
Josh (Orrville, OH)
ian keep talking and then when the buckeyes win you'll be the one they show on tv looking shocked. kind of like the michigan fans when they lost to app. state. jay i got your back.
Jay Crawford (11:46 AM)
you da man josh!
Lance (New York, N.Y.)
My personal favorite Michael Jordan moment (along with many others): In the 1991 Play-offs, he plays around with the Knicks defense in such a hilarious manner, then turns on the jets to drive past John Starks and Charles Oakley down the baseline and then throw it down on Patrick Ewing's house. From that point on, the world knew the decade was Jordan's to himself.
BrooksRyan: (Poteau,OK)
from one Sooner to another, ask Skip if he thinks Blake will pull a Sammy Surprise and come back to school for another year!?
David(Front Royal,VA)
In their prime Id take Magic because I keep thinking about the game when Kareem went down and Magic just took over the game.
Vince (Houston, TX)
Wow, I really hope everything works out with Dunta Robinson, we really need him!
Chris (Lakeland Florida)
"question: michael jordan, magic johnson, one on one...who you got room???" A defibrillator on standby
Jay Crawford (11:47 AM)
chris, you're a funny cat!
Vinny (Providence, RI)
Its apples and oranges...Lebron will never be better than Mike...Its 2 different eras and 2 Different Games.
Jay Crawford (11:48 AM)
brooksryan, skip says he wouldn't be shocked. he's a good college kid.
R Mom (Spring Valley, NY)
I said it Monday. I'll say it again. Cold Pizza not so great... ESPN FirsTake takes the Cake! Jay, Skip, Stephen A., great job! Dana still love you (Kit Who?ver). This is one great show, the chatting just puts you over the top.
Joe, Corpus Christi, Texas
Favorite Michael Jordan moment... Being a Reggie Miller fan it would be when Reggie bumped Michael, got open, and hit that game winning 3 in Game 4 of the 1998 Eastern Conference Finals. Good Times.
James (New Orleans)
It would be the father of the new school game against the man who made all the old schoolers smile with his old school style. It'd be an awesome match.
Jason (Morgantown, WV)
In their primes or now? In their primes: One on one, Jordan is way too quick for Magic. But, if i had to choose a winner between a team of five Magic's versus five Jordan's....the five Magic's would probably win.
Vince (Houston, TX)
I'm pretty confident that I could beat Skip & Stephen in a game of 21 with my hands tied behind my back and on my knees the whole game!
Michael Jordan
Thanks for the Space Jam love guys! Also, I agree on me getting inducted all by my self. That way I can run away at the ceremony (not offending any other inductees because they'll be absent) thus cancelling me being inducted so I have a shot at getting back in the NBA!!!
Jay Crawford (11:49 AM)
uh, mike...is that you...lol
Adam G Tampa, FL
On the other hand my favorite Dana JAcobson moment was the time her and Jay played the WII / dancing game.
Jay Crawford (11:49 AM)
i was robbed!
Christopher (San Antonio)
I know there isn't a comparison in the two, but David Robinson had the same effect on San Antonio as MJ had on Chicago. Where's the love for the Admiral? Forgotten is how Big Dave fulfilled his two year commitment to the Navy instead of trying to weasel out of it due to being the No.1 overall pick in 87!
Vinny (Providence, RI)
dude that is a great point...its not called the old school just for the sake of it...
Vince (Houston, TX)
Hey Jay, who will have more wins? Texans or Cowboys?
Dana Jacobson (11:50 AM)
christopher didn't the admiral need mr dunacn??
Jay Crawford (11:50 AM)
texans
Justin (Lapeer, MI)
Magic or Michael... good question but i have to go with David(Front Royal,VA) when he can take over the game from literally EVERY position on the floor... thats pretty amazing
Chris (Lakeland Florida)
I do what I can...we miss you down here Tampa way, pal.
Jay Crawford (11:51 AM)
i miss the 80 degrees and sun too. love tampa. like a second home to me.
Dana Jacobson (11:51 AM)
chirstopher more to come i have to work
Curt (Hartford, CT)
Dana, I think your alma mater is a victim of its own success...they have never quite recovered from the Fab 5, which to me is the greatest group of underclassmen ever assembled...the only thing that could stop them were two of the premier programs in college b-ball history (not a coincidence that their road blocks came from the ACC)...perhaps they need to make you AD...
Rick (Rice Texas)
Will the Mavericks be able to move out of the eight seed in the west?
Jay Crawford (11:51 AM)
rick, i doubt it
R Mom (Spring Valley, NY)
Lance (NY,NY) good Michael Jordan moment; you have converted me. I am adopting your moment. But I also, like the shot that put the dagger in the Cavs heart with that famous jump of joy at the end.
Jay Crawford (11:52 AM)
r mom... ooooooooouch!
Jason (Morgantown, WV)
David Robinson hay have had the greatest physical body to play basketball than anyone ever. If he had the heart and drive of a Jordan, Bird, Magic, etc...he would have been the greatest player ever.
Dana Jacobson (11:52 AM)
christopher, even though robinson wa sthere first id say duncan was more of the man who made others better. jus tmy take
Josh (Orrville, OH)
guys, this chat everyday is awsome....keep up the good work jay, and as for dana, i love ya but the whole michigan thing is hard to overcome.
Rick (Rice Texas)
Lol cool
Dre(Memphis)
Lebron is more on Magics level than Mj cause he is looking for his team mates. MJ was a ball hawk when he first came into the NBA. He did start really trying to make his team mates better until Scotty Pippen arrived. Lebron is making his team better now
Terry M (Atlanta GA)
Anyone remember how bad Jordan was playing with the Wizards? I certainly do and that was not the Jordan we all wanted to remember.
Josh (Orrville, OH)
how much pressure do you think jordans kid feels having that name on the back of his jersey? do you think he feels like he has some type of expectations to live up too?
Jay Crawford (11:53 AM)
too much pressure...wow
Rick (Rice Texas)
Hmm think they lose to Utah tomorrow night?
Jay Crawford (11:53 AM)
its a big one. they need it... i say no though...sorry rick
Christopher (San Antonio)
Dave was an MVP (95) before Duncan was there. When Dave got here, the Spurs had the greatest improvement from the year before. MJ didn't win until Pippen got there.
Dana Jacobson (11:54 AM)
fair point
Jonathan (Rowland Heights, CA)
Dana, are you and Jay betting on who has a better record this year between the Tigers and Indians? May I get an autographed picture?
Jay Crawford (11:55 AM)
jonathon, yes. send us a letter here to bristol, we'll sign and send a photo
Vinny (Providence, RI)
Dana and Jay thank you for the shout out today, and Jay my offer stands...i will come cook for you and the 1st take cast when ever you want. Thanks alot guys...have a great day
Jay Crawford (11:55 AM)

Adam G Tampa , FL
I party with MICHAEL JORDAN and have the pic
Josh (Orrville, OH)
i want a three hour show again. yesturdays show was awsome. 3 hour show and how about 10 downs?
Vince (Houston, TX)
Yea, I agree Jay. Those are big shoes(MJ) to fill.
Adam G Tampa , FL
I'm Stephen A's clone
Josh (dover DE)
Jordans best moment was playing in the finals with the flu
Jay Crawford (11:57 AM)
hey guys, gotta jet. my tape segments are done. have to go close the show... talk soon! peace
James Denver
Favorite MJ moment has to be mid 90s Jordan and the Bulls playing my Nuggets Mutumbo blocks Jordans shot gives him finget wave next tima down Jordan goes to hole hard gets fouled by Mutumbo there having continuess conversation then MJ closes his eyes anb shoots and makes both free throws. The guy was amazing.
Chris (Lakeland Florida)
Favorite Jordan moment for me was the shrug. After hitting what, 30 straight 3-pointers he just shrugs at the TV commentators. On the court, that to me, the most 'human' I had seen Jordan. Just shrugging at being in the zone like that. Off the court, the footage of him clutching the trophy the year after losing his father was touching. That said, as a Knicks fan, he wasn't that great a player.
Bryan (Miami, FL)
Best Jordan moment has to be the shrug after hitting yet another 3 vs. Portland in the finals. Even Jordan couldnt believe how good he was that night.
Sean (wilmington oh)
It was the release of the shoes!!!!! Now the nation could be MJ at home in our own little mind we all won the championship with time running out shot in our backyards or school playgrounds the was the best moment when we all became Jordan that Saturday afternoon!
Richard M, (Newark DE)
My favorite Jordan moment was the stretching slam dunk in Space Jam. :P
James (New Orleans)
Man, I hate that Mutumbo finger wave! It's the worst thing when he's in your house and blocks a shot then does it. Later Jay!
Chris (Lakeland Florida)
Bryan in Miami is a brilliant individual
Taylor CT
Why weren't the New England Patriots mentioned for the most dominant sports teams? In a league that is suppose to be free of dynasties they have one of the best of all time.
Dana Jacobson (12:06 PM)
some pats hater didn't put em on! kidding, I believe the question was college
Drew (Buffalo)
My favorite Jordan moment was when he made that catch at the wall while on Birmingham. That was awesome. What's the NBA?
James Denver
Dont hate on Mt Mutumbo
Dana Jacobson (12:06 PM)
see you all tomorrow. remember we are chatting every day now!!!
Vince (Houston, TX)
Hey Chris, you got a shoutout at the end of the show by Jay about that defibrillator comment! awesome
Allen Iverson
Jordan laid the groundwork for guys like me...you know, guys who get 25 in a game while going 10 of 28 from the floor. I love you Michael!
Moderator (12:09 PM)
