Alex (Anaheim, CA)
I AM REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THIS YEARS DRAFT!!! I am a huge Raiders fan and I don't really like what the Raiders have been doing to fix their needs on offense. I wish Crabtree falls to the Raiders, but I am a little scared that Al Davis might pass on Crabtree and pick Jeremy Maclin? Or I would love to get some veteran receivers like Torry Holt, or Chad Johnson. What are you hearing about the Raiders filling the HUGE hole in the receiver position?
Bill Williamson (2:04 PM)
I still say it's going to be Crabtree who ends up in Oakland. he'll be too good to pass up if he is there at No. 7.
SteveFitz (Cicero, IL)
With Cleveland now high on Sanchez it seems, do you see Denver doing something to either 1. trade up to get Sanchez, but they'd have to trade to the top 4 (KC?) or 2. make a run for Brady Quinn who might be more of McDaniel's type of QB coming from a New England type system under Weis at ND?
Mark (San Diego)
With the 16th pick in 2009 NFL Draft the San DIego Chargers select? Who and why?
Bill Williamson (2:05 PM)
If the Browns take Sanchez, tney'll defintiely deal Quinn and I could see him ending up in Denver.
ryan missoula montana
do you think the raiders will make a big splash in free agency with a big time wr?
Bill Williamson (2:06 PM)
Like Holt or Harrison? Maybe Holt but I think he wants to go to a more established team.
Erik (NH)
Hey Bill. What do you think the chances are the Raiders trade up to get Crabtree?
Bill Williamson (2:08 PM)
Keith (Springfield, MO)
Mel Kiper says that neither Sanchez or Stafford will fall to the Broncos at pick 12. Do you see a scenario where they do fall to the Broncos? Do you legitimately see the Broncos going QB 1st round or going heavily on the defense?
Bill Williamson (2:09 PM)
I think they will be defense-heavy. But I think if Sanchez is at No. 12, Denver would seriously consider taking him.
Curtis (Reno, NV)
Hey Bill. Which AFC West team do you think can help itself the most with this draft?
Bill Williamson (2:10 PM)
Have to say Denver because it has five picks in the first 84 picks.
Kyle (San Diego)
How would you rank the best and worst stadium experiences in the AFC West?
Bill Williamson (2:10 PM)
What's the criteria?
Jason: (Fort Collins, CO)
What do you see happening with the Denver running back situation? It seems to be a little crowded back there.
Bill Williamson (2:11 PM)
You'd have to say the three veterans McDaniels brought in: Arrington, Buckhalter and Jordan will get the first crack. All three are rotational players.
PT (Franklin, NC)
So Bill, what was your answer to whether or not the Raiders may trade up to get Crabtree?
Bill Williamson (2:12 PM)
It's a no.
Craig (PA)
What does getting Garcia do for the Raiders? I mean besides angering Jamarcus.
Bill Williamson (2:13 PM)
He's an insurance policy. If Russell gets hurt or if he regresses, Garcia is a capable starter. It's not about Russell's feelings. he needs to get better and if he doesn't Oakland has protection. It's a good move.
Kyle (San Diego)
What positions do you see the Bolts targeting with their 3rd-4th round picks?
Bill Williamson (2:14 PM)
It deopnds on what they do in the first round. Maybe LB,. DE, DT, S, RB.
Ben (Des moines, IA)
With so many problems on the defensive side of the ball and the fact they are switching to a 3-4, why have the chiefs not done much to improve?
Bill Williamson (2:16 PM)
Excellent question. They have done very little depsite having a lot of cap room. Very strange. They better hit defense hard in the draft.
Kyle (San Diego)
Whatever criteria you want. In my life as an NFL fan Ive only been to 3 stadiums - Oakland, San Francisco, and San Diego - and Im hoping those lackluster stadium experiences dont apply to KC and Denver as well.
Bill Williamson (2:18 PM)
Well, the stadiums in KC and Denver are much nicer than the California stadiums. But I still like the atmosphere in Oakland and San Diego.
Craig (Blcksburg VA)
Where does DJ Williams fit into Denver's new 3-4 and will it push them towards Cushing or Maualuga in the 1st round?
Bill Williamson (2:19 PM)
D.J. has been on the move so much and know he'll move again. I see him as an inside linebacker in the new scheme.
Ray, El Paso TX
Do you see Denver Drafting Maualuga at #12 or #18?
Bill Williamson (2:20 PM)
Yes, I could see him at either spot. He'd be a steal at No.18. But I think San Dieog likes him at No.16.He'd be a good fit for the Chargers as well.
Matt (Bozeman MT)
Where does KC go with #3 if Curry isn't on the table?
Bill Williamson (2:22 PM)
Good question, Matt. I'd day the Chiefs would try to trade the pick or maybe look at offense. Michael Crabtree or one of the tackles could be options in that scenario.
Mike (Los Angeles)
Bill if I asked you to play in the NFL right now would you?
Bill Williamson (2:23 PM)
Dumb quesiton, Mike and please don;'t clog up all the questions. Let folks with legit questions get a chance to participate, Thanks.
brad (hampton roads va)
In your opinion do you feel Oakland could get a quality Defensive lineman in the 2nd round if they decide to pick up a WR with the 7 pick? Shouldnt they be concentrating on building up that weak defensive front rather than picking up a WR who may not have a direct impact like a DT or LB could?
Bill Williamson (2:25 PM)
I think their top two picks should be a WR and a OT, probably in that order.
Brandon (Austin, Texas)
If the Broncos do this:12th: Tyson Jackson, 18th: Ray Maualuga, 48th: Ron Brace, then the draft will be a success. What do the Broncos have to do to have a successful draft in your opinion?
Bill Williamson (2:26 PM)
I like it but I think Rey needs to be taken before Jackson and where does the QB fit in?
Cory (Panama City , FL)
why does Denver need to draft a QB if McD is as good as some people think he is at developing talent at that Position? Isn't Orton as capable as Cassel?
Bill Williamson (2:27 PM)
Those are big ifs.
Danny, LA CA
Who is starting at Qb for the Broncos in the season opener, Bill? Orton, Simms, Sanchez, or Quinn?? :)
Bill Williamson (2:27 PM)
Orton.
Tom (Raleigh)
Is Michael Bush draft day trade-bait? What could the Raiders get for him, a 2 or a 3?
Bill Williamson (2:29 PM)
I wouldn't be shocked if he was trade bait, which I think would be a mistake. I'd say Oakland would get a third-rounder for him. I think he'd worth a second rounder.
Justin (KC)
Ocho Cinco to the Chiefs for Dorsey and a conditional pick? KC drafts Eugene Monroe in the first round? What are the chances?
Bill Williamson (2:30 PM)
I think Dorsey is more valuable than Johnson at this point.
Freddy (SD)
2009 Predictions:1. Chargers 11-5 (5-1)2. Broncos 7-9 (3-3)3. Chiefs 6-10 (2-4)4. Raiders 5-11 (2-4)Thoughts?
Bill Williamson (2:31 PM)
It's awful early, but it's interesting.
Craig (Blacksbug, VA)
Does Denver still have a shot at Browns DT, Shaun Rogers? And what would it take to get him?
Bill Williamson (2:31 PM)
Maybe a second rounder.
Nam (Las Vegas)
Ever since the Chargers did it successfully in 2001, a lot of teams have tried to pick the best player on the board in the 1st round, and then get a QB in the 2nd round. But it really hasn't worked, with John Beck as an example. Why are they still doing this?
Bill Williamson (2:32 PM)
As long as there ae stories like Tom Brady, Matt Cassel and Drew Brees, teams will try to find sleeper QBs.
Jeff, Mpls
Do you expect Cassel to take a step backwards this year due to the fact that he won't be throwing to the likes of Moss, Welker, etc..?
Bill Williamson (2:34 PM)
The could be some adjustment time, but I think he will be fine.
Bo (Honolulu, HI)
Bill, I agree with you on the WR and OT needs of Oakland but if Crabtree, Smith, and Monroe are all gone when it's their turn and Raji is sitting there, dont they have to take him over Maclin or Andre Smith?
Bill Williamson (2:35 PM)
That wouoldn't be the worst idea ever. Raji can play and he'd fit in well in Oakland.
Ryan, CA
do you talk stadiums? is san diego and/or oakland ever going to get a new one. how about a roof over arrowhead so they can host the superbowl?
Bill Williamson (2:36 PM)
Are all possibilities, but it won't be easy.
Jason (Denver CO)
Is Pat White a possibility maybe with one of the 3rd round picks for the Broncos. He could help with the shotgun passing offense as a receiver and add more excitement to the offense
Bill Williamson (2:37 PM)
I know Denver is looking at him so it wouldn't be a shock if White ended up in Denver.
Howie (La Jolla)
Ive seen mock drafts with the Bolts jumping on Maclin if he were to fall to 16. I disagree with this completely. Maclin's biggest asset as a WR is his big-play, go-deep ability. I would argue that very few WRs in the NFL were better than Vincent Jackson at this very skill. Thye might be a group of relative no-names, but the Chargers WR core is solid and not worthy of wasting a 1st round pick on. Case closed!
Bill Williamson (2:38 PM)
That scenario would surprise me as well, Howie.
Scott (Spanish Fork, UT)
Any news on Roy Williams, the safety? I'd love to see him in Silver and Black.
Bill Williamson (2:39 PM)
He visited Cincinnati but he has been very quiet.
Colin (FL)
With a healthy Brady, are the Pats the team to beat?
Bill Williamson (2:40 PM)
Yes I think so. They should be he team to be in the entire league.
Bo (Honolulu, HI)
Is Oakland's D-Line really that bad or are the stats just a result of an anemic offense that results in the D staying on the field too long and involves an entire 4th quarter of rushes?
Bill Williamson (2:41 PM)
it needs help at defensive tackle.
Jason (Parker, CO)
What do you see Denver doing with Sheffler and with Peyton Hillis?? I see them both as BIG PLAY MAKERS, but hear that they may not get much play (if they're even on the team).
Bill Williamson (2:43 PM)
It will be interesting to watch both players. I think both guys are real players but I've heard the rumors that they could be on the trade block as well. It doesn't make much sense to me.
Colin (FL)
Do you see Michael Vick playing in the NFL again?
Bill Williamson (2:43 PM)
In 2010.
Colin (FL)
Is Farve totally gone from football? Or do you see him on TV in about 2 years?
Bill Williamson (2:44 PM)
Do you really think he'd want to wear a suit every Sunday?
Tony (Chico, CA)
Who should the chargers takeMoreno or Wells?
Bill Williamson (2:45 PM)
Great question. I say neither. They should help their defense and then get a running back in the second or third round.
Bill Williamson (2:46 PM)
Hey folks, I have to run a few minutes early this week. Great session. Talk to you next week, just 48 hours before the draft. It'll be a hoot. Thanks, BW.
