Chat with Tyrone McKenzie

McKenzie started all 26 games in the two years he played at South Florida. He led USF with 116 tackles in 2008, while also leading the team in tackles for loss with 15 and pass breakups with 8. McKenzie also led USF in tackles in 2007 with 121.
According to McKenzie's Scouts Inc.'s draft profile, he "reads keys and diagnoses plays quickly. Picked up USF's defense quickly and appeared to help align USF defenders pre-snap early in the 2007 season ... Occasionally tackles high and can have problems stopping bigger north-south runners but explodes into hits and generally wraps up. Shows good body control in space and a reliable open field tackler."

Tyrone will be here shortly!
Buzzmaster (3:14 PM)
Hey everyone, we're working on tracking down Tyrone.
Buzzmaster (3:23 PM)
We've got Tyrone!
Tyrone McKenzie (3:23 PM)
Thanks for logging on, and let's get at it!
Ryan (VT)
How did playing at USF prepare you for the NFL?
Tyrone McKenzie (3:24 PM)
It was a huge phase in my preparation. Our defense is very complex, so it's similar to NFL defenses.
Leon (Maryland)
What do you think will be the biggest adjustment to playing in the NFL?
Tyrone McKenzie (3:24 PM)
I don't think there will be a big adjustment...my background has allowed me to mature to be the person I am today. It's just going to be another phase in my life.
Jeff, Mpls
Were you nervous at the combine or did you just go out there and do your thing?
Tyrone McKenzie (3:25 PM)
I was nervous...everyone gets a little nervous out there. I couldn't put my best foot forward because of my hamstring strain, but everything happens for a reason.
Justin Behling (Boyceville, WI)
Which NFL team did you root for growing up?
Tyrone McKenzie (3:26 PM)
I was a huge Steeler fan. From Greg Lloyd to Joey Porter.
Tony, FL
Outside of football what do you like to do in your down time?
Tyrone McKenzie (3:27 PM)
I just like to kick my feet up and relax, along with doing things for the community. I tried to help a lot of homeless shelters in the Tampa area, and tried to make an impact in the community by talking to high schoolers and middle schoolers.
Evan (Phoenix)
I've heard stories about the NFL veterans hazing the rookies, like making them sign their college fight songs...so, how's your signing voice?
Tyrone McKenzie (3:27 PM)
I can spit a tune out. It's all right. Not bad.

Hello Tyrone. Born in N.Y.C, HS in Florida, Michigan and Iowa St. and finally USF. I am guessing you would prefer to play in FL. Do you care and what NFL player do you admire?
Tyrone McKenzie (3:28 PM)
I like to play wherever I get drafted. It'll be fun, but also, I guess growing up, I admired Joe Montana, Ronnie Lott, Dan Marino, those guys were huge.
Jeff, Mpls
Best player you faced in your college career?
Tyrone McKenzie (3:28 PM)
Adrian Peterson. I played him my sophomore year.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
Tyrone, Do you have any pre-game ritules?
Tyrone McKenzie (3:29 PM)
I always try and stay with a plan, so I stick with whatever I did before the first game of the season.
Erik (LA)
Would you rather grab an INT and return it for a score or get a good hit on a QB and record a sack?
Tyrone McKenzie (3:29 PM)
Getting a good hit on the QB, getting a forced fumble out of it, maybe.
Nick NJ
Be honest now...when you put a good lick on someone, does it ring your bell as much as it does to them?
Tyrone McKenzie (3:30 PM)
No, I don't even feel it. I listen for that "ugh!", and when I hear that, I know I've brought fear to someone's heart.
Allen (houston)
a lot of us fans here in houston think you would be a STEAL in the 3rd round for our texans, and probably start right away. i was wondering what you think the biggest challenge to jump to the NFL will be... thanks and good luck in the draft
Tyrone McKenzie (3:31 PM)
I'm not really worried about any challenges. I'm not concerned, but I'm excited about going out there and making a name for myself, proving myself to my teammates and coaches.
Tyrone McKenzie (3:31 PM)
Thanks for chatting with me, and hopefully I'll be in your city soon!
