Tag Ribary (1:01 PM)
Hello everyone. The draft is getting close and the schedule is coming out today. Let's get started.
Matt (newport news VA)
if orakpo is gone, who is the most logical choice for the skins at DE (Maybin, Ayers, Jackson???) or is there a bigger need then DE?
Tag Ribary (1:04 PM)
Hey Matt, Ayers seems like a better fit due to his overall size over a guy like Maybin. Jackson seems to be an attractive option for 3-4 teams. I agree DE is a priorty for them but we'll have to see how thing unfold in front of them first.
Fiona (San Diego CA)
Tag, I read a rumor that the Chargers may be offering their 1st round draft pick for Braylon Edwards. This cant be true can it? Their roster is pretty loaded already, and Edwards gives Rivers another big target, but even I find this hard to believe.
Tag Ribary (1:06 PM)
Fiona there are a lot of rumors floating around right now and you will probably hear a lot more leading up to draft day. I have doubts about Edwards to SD.
Cosmo (Anytown, USA)
If the Eagles packaged both of their first round picks, how high could that get them? Top 10? Top 5?
Tag Ribary (1:10 PM)
I think it depends on how badly teams want to trade back. A couple of teams have expressed interest already but getting into the top 5 is expensive both cap-wise and compensation-wise. They should be able to get near the top ten I would think.
Tomwit NJ [via mobile]
Hello Tag. Who do you think is the one under the radar player out there? The steal of the draft.
Tag Ribary (1:11 PM)
Not really sure how everyone sees him but Sidbury from Richmond could be taken a lot higher than originally thought.
Darryl in the ATL
Hey, Tagger, the rumor here today is Tony Gonzalez for the Falcon's 2nd rounder. Good move for the home boys? Might give Atlanta the best offense in football, huh?
Tag Ribary (1:14 PM)
That deal would help Atlanta quite a bit but I'm not sure KC pulls the trigger. They need playmakers for Cassel and getting rid of one of their best players right now would seem to be a step backwards.
to answer Tomwits question Ian Johnson is going to be a big sleeper for somone in the mid to late rounds, that kid can play
Marc (Mt. Laurel, NJ)
The Cowboys need to add some more speed at the WR position. What receiver(s) can fill that roll in rounds 3-5?
Tag Ribary (1:16 PM)
It will be hard for them to find a significant upgrade that late. From the sounds of things, the WR group is good through the first couple of rounds then starts to drop off somewhat.
If you are Denver and both Sanchez and Raji are available for them (either at 12 or after having moved up), whom should they take?
Tag Ribary (1:19 PM)
They will have a tough decision if both guys are available. They need a true NT they can build around and Raji would seem to give them the bigger boost right now. The good news is Denver has enough draft picks to aggressively target the player they like the best. Should be interesting to see who they target.
How far do you think Andre Smith falls in the draft next weekend? Out of the TOP 10?
Tag Ribary (1:23 PM)
I think he gets taken in the vicinity of 10. Once the first two are gone, teams could get aggressive.
When is the schedule being released? And do you see any way the Vikings trade for Brady Quinn?
Tag Ribary (1:25 PM)
The schedule comes out at 7:00 pm ET today and I don't see Minnesota trading for Quinn.
Chris (Edmond OK)
Do you see the Cowboys drafting a receiver with one of their earlier picks. I'm not completely sold on Roy Williams, and if he is still around, Miles Austin has not proved anything except that he can run fast. The Cowboys have to do something as far as addressing receiver needs. Do you see it being through the draft, or possibly making another trade?
Tag Ribary (1:27 PM)
The draft seems to make more sense. They've already made an aggressive move for Williams and giving up more draft picks or players on the roster doesn't seem likely to me.
If the Giants land Braylon/Boldin are they the #1 team in the NFC? Are are they there already?
Tag Ribary (1:32 PM)
They would be in good shape if they were able to land either one and would draw a lot of interest as the best team in the NFC. Hopefully Edwards shows better concentration wearing blue in NY if that happens.
Tag, What does a draft board look like in the war room? Do different teams take alternative approaches on how they construct their board?
Tag Ribary (1:34 PM)
Usually players are stacked best to worst by position but a lot of teams also have a separate board with the top 100 or so, regardless of position for comparison.
Do you think the Skins have a serious interest in Sanchez?
Tag Ribary (1:37 PM)
Hard to say but it's evident they don't seem to be very content with Campbell.
Justin (New Jersey)
I know the Giants are looking for someone younger but do you see them signing any of the free agent recievers like holt?
Tag Ribary (1:39 PM)
Not really. They've had time to make a move if they were thinking along those lines. Something could break at the last second but I believe they are locked in on the draft or possibly a trade at this point.
Steiny: Is he a great chatter or just sends in so many questions that he has to get something posted?
Tag Ribary (1:41 PM)
Steiny posts a lot of questions. He's all over it.
gary smyrna.tn [via mobile]
what do u think about chris johnson and p.harvin from fla playing together
Tag Ribary (1:43 PM)
It would be exciting - that's a lot of speed and big play potential.
Can a team like the Eagles afford to trade for both Jason Peters and Peppers? That would be two huge contracts, but would help the team in a big way. I would give up the firsts for those guys, and maybe some yet to be determined picks in the future...but is that too much money for a team to take on?
Tag Ribary (1:46 PM)
They could probably get a deal done for one of those guys but not both (in terms of trade compensation). As far as the financial end of things, I will leave up to the salary cap guys but my gut says that would be difficult also.
Rob Cagley (Shreveport, LA)
Whats taking the Lions so long with the first pick?????
Tag Ribary (1:47 PM)
Rob is getting anxious. I like it.
It seems like there's a ton of good, but not great, RB's available in this draft. Do you agree and if so will we see a lot of guys sliding to later rounds because teams figure they'll just grab whoever's available later on?
Tag Ribary (1:51 PM)
There are some good ones but I don't see teams passing on them for long and keeping their fingers crossed for later on. There could be a run on RB's at some point where several are taken quickly.
Matt R (Wisconsin)
Tag, Ted Thompson has been known for blowing draft picks, just look at what justin harrel has done...think he'll blow it again or pick somone we severly need, like an offensive lineman or DE/OLB do fit into the new 3-4 scheme?
Tag Ribary (1:55 PM)
This looks like a good year for OT or the hybrid LB that can rush the passer. Ted will make a good selection. You mentioned Harrell but he's also drafted players like Steve Hutchinson, Alexander etc.
Which player in this draft would you say is the closest to being a "sure thing"? Crabtree?
Tag Ribary (1:56 PM)
There are no sure things but Curry looks pretty safe to me.
Christopher Phoenix, AZ
yahoo sports is reporing Edwards to the NYG! Citing two sources "with knowledge of the negotiations," Yahoo Sports reports that the Giants are expected to trade for Braylon Edwards before the April 25-26 NFL Draft. "The Giants are going to have to up the offer a bit, but (the Browns) are willing to move him," a source said. "The Giants are motivated." Edwards is an ideal fit to replace Plaxico Burress at split end in New York. With Rob Royal and David Patten as their top pass catchers left, however, new OC Brian Daboll is going to deserve a medal if Cleveland finishes above 25th in offense.
