Scott'll be here in a moment! Keep sending those questions in!
Saagar (San Jose, CA)
Scott you hear about KG yet? What now for the Celtics?
Scott Van Pelt (1:33 PM)
It obviously changes what was realistic to expect from them. I think he was the heart and soul of the defense of that time. The defense is why the won the title last year. if he can't go, neither can they.
Lisa (White Hall, MD)
What team has the best chance to win the Super Bowl given their schedule next season?
Scott Van Pelt (1:34 PM)
Lisa, I'm not picking on you, but the one thing you never know in April is how a schedule will play itself out in September, October, November, etc. For instance, if you had Cleveland on your schedule last year, that game might've worried you, but then they stunk. So, it's impossible to say who has a tough schedule and who has an easy schedule.
Joe (Chicago)
Huge Michigan fan here. What do you think of Paulus' chances of being successful there for a season? I'm willing to try anything at this point.
Scott Van Pelt (1:36 PM)
The kid Forcier from California is already there, as you know. He's got more than a little confidence in his ability. Even though he's a true freshman, if he ends up being the guy on the field next year, it's probably an upgrade. As for Paulus, there are people whose opinion I respect, who thought he was a far better high school QB than a point guard. So even if he's rusty, given his maturity, and experiences competing in the ACC in basketball, maybe he could dive right back in. I don't see the harm in taking a chance.
Jason (baltimore)
Scott do you believe players should ever have jersey's retired after 1 or 2 years at a school?
Scott Van Pelt (1:38 PM)
No. I saw Kevin Durant has his jersey retired at Texas. For what? They lost in the first round of the NCAA tournament, I think. For that you retire a jersey?
J (Ohio)
Van Peezy, is this the most trade talk you've ever heard of leading up to the NFL Draft? Cutler, Edwards, now Boldin, what's going on in the NFL these days?
Scott Van Pelt (1:39 PM)
I think that there were some unique circumstances in play here with the players you mentioned and teams interested. Teams are interested in trading out of the top ten in possible given the money and the depth of the draft behind it.
Jon (Minny)
What's up SVP. Should I be worried about the Twins pitching staff? I know it's early, but they have really struggled, outside of Perkins who doesn't even have a win yet.
Scott Van Pelt (1:40 PM)
Injuries all over the place. It's only mid-April. The Mariners are in first place. I would be patient and trust Gardenhire.
John (Chicago)
Do you think Boldin stays or goes in the end?
Scott Van Pelt (1:41 PM)
I think he goes.Talking to some Cardinal people, I know they feel Boldin benefits more from Fitzgerald than vice-versa. I think that marriage is broken.
Zach Lexington KY
Do you think Kentucky has a shot of getting to the final four next year?
Scott Van Pelt (1:42 PM)
If they get Wall and Henry and either Patterson or Meeks stays, sure, why not? That would be a pretty steep ask though, for a bunch of freshmen.
Adam (Charleston, SC)
Tenacious D or Flight of the Conchords?
Scott Van Pelt (1:44 PM)
Including Murray, Flight of the Conchords. Remember, the D had an episode with the Sasquatch on drums but decided they weren't a power trio. To me, this season, Murray was the best person on the show. If he goes, I vote for the D.
John (College Park)
Scott, sorry but our Terps retired Stevie Franchise's jersey after 1 year and no even a sweet 16! Let's be fair
Scott Van Pelt (1:45 PM)
No... no they didn't. The jersey is not retired. The jersey is hung in the rafters in recognition of his All American season. Maryland has retired only one jersey, the late great Leonard Bias.
Bess (NY)
You look like Chandler from "Friends"
Scott Van Pelt (1:45 PM)
I've heard that many times. More so when I had hair. Now people say I look like the dude in Midnight Oil.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
When Tiger and Phil were making their charge, could you sense some tension at the top of the leaderboard?
Scott Van Pelt (1:47 PM)
Absolutely. The question was could either of them make a move on Sunday? Then they both did. The leaders knew why people were cheering. And there's no way it wouldn't have some sort of an impact.
J (Ohio)
Which would you rather win, U.S. Open or the Masters?
Scott Van Pelt (1:48 PM)
Neither. The championship to win in golf is the Open Championship (by that I mean British Open). They invented the game. The Claret Jug is the oldest trophy in golf. That's the one to win.
Bobbo (NY)
Ever been to Wrigley SVP? We're going out there this summer, got any must see spots?
Scott Van Pelt (1:49 PM)
Yes, I've been. It's fantastic. I heard some awful news that the Weiner Circle has been closed... Something about health violations. Nonsense! If it's open, you must go there. Preferably after 2 a.m. Bring your A Game.
Chris D. (LL, Michigan)
Scott, don't you think that Dwyane Wade deserves serious consideration for Defensive Player of the Year?
Scott Van Pelt (1:51 PM)
I think he deserves serious consideration for every award, really. Defensive, MVP, heck even Comeback if you think about it. I don't think he's going to win any of them -- which isn't an indictment of him as it is a credit to the other players.
Jason (Bmore)
Have you tried the vitamin diet coke yet, and are you switching to it?
Scott Van Pelt (1:54 PM)
I'm the picture of health as it is. I take a number of supplements. I'm just going to go with my standard variety of Diet Coke. No need to upset the applecart.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
When are you making the switch to Coke Zero?
Scott Van Pelt (1:54 PM)
Hate it. I have a clinical addiction to Diet Coke which can't be messed with.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
SVP, does the NBA need the Finals to be Lakers v Cavs or would another pairing still be interesting enough for TV?
Scott Van Pelt (1:55 PM)
Kobe-LeBron is undeniable. Anything short of that almost feels like a let down unless Boston makes it back. For me personally, there are a bunch of compelling match-ups that I'd watch, but I don't know if the public at large would.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
But you still like Sweet Tarts, right?
Scott Van Pelt (1:56 PM)
Just had an Easter sweet tart. A red bunny. Immaculate.
Jessie ( West Chester Pa. )
Hey Scott! Which WR would you rather have B.(Drops)Edwards or A.Boldin?
Scott Van Pelt (1:57 PM)
I love Boldin. I think he's tough as hell. He showed that after he had his face taken apart and played three weeks later. To me, I think if the price is right and all things being equal, I'd pick Boldin.
