Chat with Martin Havlat

Havlat led the charge down the stretch in helping Chicago secure a playoff spot for the first time in five seasons. The Blackhawks own the four seed in the Western Conference with the third most points. The Blackhawks will play No. 5 seed Calgary in the first round of the playoffs. Havlat's career high in points (74) included a career high nine-game points streak from Feb. 14-March 3 (four goals, 11 assists).

Martin Havlat (12:00 PM)
Hey guys!
Lenny (MI)
Do you think you could beat Detroit if you were to meet in the playoffs?
Martin Havlat (12:01 PM)
I think our team showed everyone the whole season that we can beat any team in the league...so why not? We have Calgary in the first round and we need to focus on the first game and take everything step by step.
Mitch (St. Louis)
How has the city responded the the Hawks' recent success? Is there a buzz around town?
Martin Havlat (12:02 PM)
For sure. The buzz started last year, during the summer. There were a lot of people at our convention. And I think we helped keep that buzz with the way we played and the fans are selling out every game and breaking attendance records. The fans were great all year.
Mike, Chicago
What is one of your favorite things to do in Chicago, whether its after the game or on an off day?
Martin Havlat (12:04 PM)
Rest. There are so many games and the most important thing is to rest. But I love movies, so I go to the movie theater as much as possible. You need some time to not think about hockey and I love playing XBox with my friends as well.
Bill (Chicago, IL)
Hi Martin, Congrats on a great season! What do you think will be the most challeging part about playing Calagary in the playoffs. GO BLACKHAWKS! THANKS FOR BRING HOCKEY BACK TO CHICAGO
Martin Havlat (12:06 PM)
Thank you. We know they are a very good team, and they have a lot of playoff experience, which is something we do not have. But I think we have the same quality team and I expect it to be a big battle. I expect a tough series.
Brent, Chicago
Cubs or White Sox fan?
Martin Havlat (12:07 PM)
Actually I have only gone to one baseball game in three years and it was at Wrigley...and then we played there this year. I would say I'm 50-50, don't want to get anyone mad.
Grant, Winter Park, FL (formerly Chicago)
Who is the toughest goalie in the NHL right now? Please re-sign in Chicago!
Martin Havlat (12:10 PM)
Well We have two of the best goalies, and I am happy I do not have to play against them. They have been a big part of our success, who have been great every night. But Luongo is also a great one as is Mason and Thomas. I think Mason will win the rookie of the year award and how can I not mention Brodeur. It is hard to pick just one. And I would love to stay in Chicago too!
Pete (Chicago)
What's your favorite Chicago food: Deep dish pizza, italian beef sandwiches, the Chicago hot dog, something else?
Martin Havlat (12:11 PM)
I will go with the Italian beef sandwich. But I also love sushi.
Bryan (Seattle, WA)
Do you guys have a nickname for the fourth line yet (like Detroit used to have the "Grind Line"). Can't they be the Tomahawk Line or the Ax Line?
Martin Havlat (12:12 PM)
We have a lot of nicknames for the stars, but not the line just yet. But we can think about it. They have been great all year. But, no we do not have one just yet.
Joe (Chicago, IL)
Is this the best you felt health wise since your time here?
Martin Havlat (12:12 PM)
For sure.
Ryan, Chicago
What has been your reaction, as well as the team's, in regards to the Hawks going from the bottom of the league in attendance when you first signed to leading the league in only a two year span?
Martin Havlat (12:15 PM)
It's been great and the attendance picked up in the middle of last year, and the fans are like a 6th skater on the ice and it is great to have fans like that. It is a lot of fun to play at home. This team went through a lot over the last two years and it helped everyone to have the fans there. We've all worked hard, people on the ice an off the ice have worked hard. It was a nice reward for the hard work to have a season like this.
Dave (Chicago, IL)
Loved watching you and the team play this season. It seemed like you all have a great chemistry out there. Would you attribute it to off the ice camaraderie or simply knowing each other's style of play?
Martin Havlat (12:17 PM)
It is a combination of both. We have one of the youngest teams in the league and the relationships we have off the ice are great and it starts there and that makes it easier to find chemistry on the ice. The lines during the regular season were basically the same and that makes it easier to get used to your teammates. But it starts off the ice. If you get along off the ice that makes it easier on the ice. We battle for each other and that is the most important thing.
Martin Havlat (12:18 PM)
Thanks for the questions and hope to do it again!
