yes that is a football reference. i played with ex nfl star anthony newman in high school and i wasnt bad. my family was very into sports but i never liked practicing and wasnt ever really go to college good like my brother. i kinda rebeled against scoreboards and sports for a while but then learned the joys of drinking and gambling and now enjoy sports more than ever. watching them that is.

I will try to make it quick. My dad is a big John Prine fan so I bought him tickets to see him in Charleston, WV in November 2007. On the way to the show my dad asked me who was opening for Prine; I said some guy named Todd Snider. My dad said never heard of him; me either I said. Boy, was that going to change. What an awesome show you put on that night; never seen anything like it. Came home, and went on and on about the show. Told my wife I would love to learn to play guitar, but thought I was too old to start learning (43). Well, next birthday in April 2008, my wife bought me a new guitar. I still suck, but I'm learning and more importantly having fun. I am a CPA so I haven't had much time to practice, but I will once today is over with! Saw you a couple of weeks ago in Nelsonville, Ohio...another great show. You were kind enough to wait around so me and my wife could get our picture taken with you. Thanks! I've been a fan since Songs for the Daily Planet, was hooked when, just for the hell of it, I got Step Right Up, and now I check every few months to see when your next release comes out or when you're coming to town. My question is this: Some of your songs seem to me to represent two opposing views. For instance, Alright Guy meant a lot to me in my early 20's, to say that I don't have to live the perfect life to be a decent person - An alright guy. After moving into a new phase of my life where I felt a lot better about myself, the song seems to take on the point of view of someone who makes bad decisions and then wonders why it gets him into trouble. My questions: 1. Is my assumption correct regarding this particular song? 2. Have you intentionally written songs that, while they seem to have one point of view, they also recognize the opposite view? Finally, thanks for bringing Keith Sykes to Boulder last time.
