Hi gang...1st Down topics for you today: 1-Magic lost to Sixers - who do you blame? 2- Can the Hornets get back in ther series against the Nuggets? 3-Marlins have the best record in baseball, what percentage do you give them of making the playoffs??
JJ ( Thorndale Pa.)
Good morning Dana & Jay! Friday was the first time I expierenced the First Take chat. I'm addicted, so informative thankyou! Go Flyers!
Umor (detroit mi)
1-van gundy got out couch.2-Yes. 3-45
Dana Jacobson (9:57 AM)
Good morning everyone. Thumbs up to the new vitamin water. Hope you all enjoyed some great games this weekend. Today by the way, my dog's 10th birthday and no...i'm not having a party!
Tom (Chicago, IL)
This is gonna sound like a hometown question but am I the only one who isn't completely dismissing the Bulls in the firsts round of the playoffs? Boston is missing their best player in KG and they went to 7 games almost every series last year.
Dana Jacobson (9:59 AM)
Tom all the experts i've heard have said it'll be tougher but boston will win. I guess it's how you see it...is that completely dismissing them or just saying, the bulls will challenge them but not win
chris, gilroy,ca [via mobile]
do you see anybody in the western conference giving kobe and the lakers a good match?
Dana Jacobson (9:59 AM)
Chris, go gilroy garlic festival! A good match yes but not winning..shoot gotta go more later
Jessie ( West Chester Pa. )
I know it's just one game, a game that every know it all analyst said would be a beatdown by the Magic! So with that said can my Sixers get just alittle love from you guys and gals. 'Twas a great day for Philly fans yesterday!
Moderator (10:01 AM)
Jessie...today's your day
darryl lebanon pa
for anyone that's been watching the sixers this year Igoudala has become quite the clutch scorer, he's made tons of big shots. See the lakers game for an example.
stephen kc mo
man, i turned magic 76ers game off after 3rd quarter! Thought it was OVER!
James Denver
Ive been saying it all year Magic rely way to much on 3 ball and have Skip to my lew running the point that just makes for bad Playoff basketball.
Sean (TR NJ)
When you have your foot on a opponents throst you can't ease up the Magic did and the Sixer's did what they are supposed to do and thats take advantge and make some shots.
Dana Jacobson (10:05 AM)
ok sorry chirs, ummm i don't see anyone coming out of the west other than the lakers.
James Denver
My Nuggets destroyed the Hornets. Are Skip and Steven A going to change pick. With little or no help from Melo and win by 30. Nuggets Lakers Westernconfrence Finals book it.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Isn't it a given for a Van Gundy to be outcoached in the post-season? Just asking.
Tom (River North)
Dana, do you think Red Wings fans should thank the NHL for suspending Lidstrom and Datsyuk for one game? If Columbus had lost that game, Detroit would be playing Anaheim and San Jose would be playing Columbus.
Dana Jacobson (10:07 AM)
Tom I'll say this...sharks must be bitter that they don't have the bluejackets.
Rob (Tallahassee, Fla.)
Blame the players for sure, but it starts with Stan. Plenty of things change the course of games that happen on the court that are out of the players' control, but that's when it's up to the coach to stop it by calling a time out and changing things up or whatever you have to do to stop it.
Will (WV)
The Magic will be fine...they will win in six.
Sean (TR NJ)
How about them Rangers with a 2 game lead over the Caps that and the Ducks over San Jose is a great story.
Dana Jacobson (10:09 AM)
Sean, I think I am more surprised by the rangers. But both great stories. It's why the NHL playoffs are awesome in teh first round...and yes Ive thought that even shen detroits gotten bumped
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Can anyone at First Take shed some light on the launching pad that is Yankee Stadium? There are fewer flights out of LaGuardia!
Dana Jacobson (10:10 AM)
Johnny - we'll talk about that in hour number 2 with dan graziano a little. Things may actually get worse!!
Brian Thompson (Houston, Texas)
Van Gundy is a terrible coach. If the Magic had say a Larry Brown the Magic would be more prepared.
stephen kc mo
Finally I agree with skip about Dwight!!
stephen kc mo
Jay and Dana, how about my boy Zack Grienke?? possible CY young this year?
Dana Jacobson (10:15 AM)
stephen, buster just said it
Brian Thompson ( Houston, Texas)
Chauncey Billups is the best point gaurd in the league. Chris Paul wa put in MVP talks and no one said anything about Billups. He changed the Nuggets from a 8 seed and possibly out the playoffs to a 2 seed. Chauncey Billups is the best point gaurd in the league.
Will (WV)
I remember watching Grienke pictch at Apopka high.....he has a CY young coming his way...Buster is right!
Dana Jacobson (10:17 AM)
Brian, sad day in detroit when he was traded. denver certainly stepped it up a notch this wknd
James Denver
Skip is finally right about basketball topic. Its a miracle. If Dwight Howard could make free throws Magic could give him the ball down the stretch. Nobody to blame but superman.
Brandon Calfornia [via mobile]
Skips Crazy If He Still Thinks Orlando Can Beat The Cavs Yesterday They Chocked That Lead. Yes They Match Up Well and Beat Them By 30 or So In The Regular Season But the Playoffs are different If they meet up LeBron Will Blast Them.
Jay (Orlando)
remember how many games there are in baseball...a little too early for awards and judging teams
Jay (Orlando)
For how much I like the Magic, if they aren't hitting their outside shots, they really aren't all that great.
Shannon (Johnson City, TN)
With the fast start and what happened a few years ago why shouldn't the Marlins win the pennant. I think they will last
Dana Jacobson (10:17 AM)
jay the fun thing is to try to predict if those teams will still be there..same with guys off to a fast start. BUT i think everyone hears you on that
Sean (TR NJ)
I agree with James Denver. If there is a team to give the Lakers trouble this postseason it wil be Denver and Chauncey Billups.
Cody (shaftsbury, vt)
I'm not seeing the Marlins sticking around. Half of their wins came from beating the Nationals.
Will (WV)
Brian, Billups has brought a strong sense of defense to denver which makes that team a whole lot better. But please, best point guard in the league?
James (Avalon NJ )
I got this serious man crush going for Claude Giroux, they go away with time right?
Dana Jacobson (10:18 AM)
Skip still has his on Manu whether he admits it or not...so you've got awhile to go
James Denver
CP3 meet the Finals MVP
Will (WV)
Van gundy is a flopper!
stephen kc mo
Dwight Howard Superman? Sorry, but no one is better than Shaq at his prime! Talk about total domination! until then Howard needs to stop with Superman!
Tim (Baltimore,MD)
Hey Dana good morning to you. Happy 10th to your buddie. What do you think of the Orioles so far?
Cody (shaftsbury, vt)
Marlins won't stick around 6 out of 11 of thier wins were against the nationals. 40 percent at best.
Jay Crawford (10:22 AM)
man cody! i was reading you and not listening to skip...lol
Dana Jacobson (10:23 AM)
Tim thanks. Surprised both birds - orioles and blue jays are atop the al east to be honest. BUT I think like buster was just saying about toronto others in the division will catch up, as always so much talent in the al east
stephen kc mo
Rose=franchise player! man, the guy can seriously play.
Tyler RIverside CA
jay or dana with valds being out for awhile and ervin and lakey and also mosley do u think that the angles are out of the divsion race already?
Jay Crawford (10:23 AM)
the kid is a baller!
Rich :Rdg.Pa.
Jay and Dana ,Good Morning, A big fan since way back when "CHECK OUT THE THROWBACK BRO"Do you think we can get an empty seat counter for Yankee stadium .By june the only one behind home plate will be Billy Crystal
Dana Jacobson (10:23 AM)
Tyler, not in April. Tougher yes...but no one is out this early. A's were always going to challenge and now the mariners are making noise. it's a long season
Jay Crawford (10:24 AM)
wow rich! that goes waaaaay back and you have an excellent memory!!! that's a good idea...almost as many hr's as empty seats isn't good on either count.
James Denver
Billups not best regular season point but come Playoff time who do you want with ball in his hands more then Mr Big Shot.
stephen kc mo
I think ive developed a man crush on the top of the royals rotation, ( meche and grienke!)
Justin Franklin, PA
We are going to find out about the Marlins this week for sure. Not just the mets and cubs but the PIRATES. If the rain allows them to play 3 games i am garenteeing 2 out of 3 for the pirates.. Ohlendorph will get a win or Karstens then for sure Maholm will slice the fillet. BOOK IT!
Jay Crawford (10:25 AM)
seriously stephen, being an indians fan and watching greinke pitch often over the past few years, it was only a matter of time since this happened. wow!
Giuseppe, New Jersey
Jay want do you think about the Eagles trade for Jason Peters?
Jay Crawford (10:26 AM)
not nuts about it really giuseppe.
Robert (Spring,Tx)
Good morning Dana and Jay! Will my Rockets finally get out of the first round? if so are we talking about a sweep?
Jay Crawford (10:26 AM)
the magic crystal basketball says......no! sorry..,...
stephen kc mo
We already know Jays man crush is Lebron!
Jay Crawford (10:26 AM)
easily!
Will (WV)
The best part of this baseball season is that KC and Toronto are both in first....are you kidding me!
Chris (Lakeland Florida)
Yeah, my newborn dribbled yesterday as well. He's not playing in the playoffs for the Celtics either.
Jay Crawford (10:27 AM)
chris's daily zinger!
Curt (Hartford, CT) [via mobile]
Why is everybody surprised my 76ers won? Stan Van Gundy is not the coach his brother is...he couldn't even get over the hump with Shaq and D-wade in Miami...dude is garbage
David, Atlanta
Will Stephen A Smith be on the program this week? I don't think 1st and 10 is ever better. Him and Skip remind me of PTI.. but a little more raw.
Sean (TR NJ)
Reasons Marlins do so well #1) Pitching, young and talented, but we all know by now the Marlins are one of the best at spotting talent by now right? #2) Great defense, which is attributed to the coaching staff. #3) So far timely hitting and good offense, but they do have a tendancy to taper off a bit.
Chris (Lakeland Florida)
The former "Mr. Wonderful" from the WWF pithces for the Pirates now??? Anyone?
Scott (Kendall Park, NJ)
SKIP IS RIGHT ABOUT THE MARLINS! I am a die hard Mets fan. I know the Marlins will be in it all year. Mets will pull it out though. Phillies will die off - no more than 80 wins.
James Denver
Derick Rose was unbeleivable against Boston. Who thinks OJ Mayo or Beasly should of been number 1 pick now?
Justin Franklin, PA
I have always been a Celtics fan since way back as a child. I am not afraid to admit that the whole KG thing is fishy to me. I honestly believe that he will come back if the celtics move on to the next rounds. (IF THEY DO)
Jay Crawford (10:28 AM)
great point james.
Daniel Lakeland, FL
So is anyone buying what Shaq said about Stan Van Gundy cracking in the playoffs? I put a lot of stock in it because Shaq played under him
Adam G. (Tampa, FL)
Jay wake me up when the finals start Cavs and Lakers all the way
Adam G. (Tampa, FL)
Jemele take off those Laker colors.
Cody (shaftsbury,vt)
Jay, manage to stay ten games over .500 in the NL East, not so sure about that.
Jay Crawford (10:30 AM)
no, i said IF they can...why not, they're 10 over after 12.
James Denver
Jay the Rockrtets crushed Portland and stole home court advantage from young team that nesded it. I love you nan but did you watch the game. Houston will get out of first round.
Jay Crawford (10:31 AM)
james, beware of portland in game 2. unless im totally wrong on this, chalk up game one to young jitters...i think they'll shake them off, win game 2, steal one in houston and take the series...i've been wrong before though...
Giuseppe, New Jersey
I feel bad for skip, whats he doing with himself, Manu is injured thats his man crush.
stephen kc mo
kinda funny that a mets fan is talking about the defending champs dying off??
DJ (Durham, NC)
Hey Jay Dana & Skip. Are the Eagles gonna go after Boldin or Edwards to get that big time WR??
Tyler RIverside CA
jay do u think if the cavs were to lose a game at home n they got home court that the pistons wouldhave a mental adavtned on them with all the vets that have been there and done that on this team
Jay Crawford (10:33 AM)
tyler, not detroit, but they wouldn 't want to lose a game to the lakers at home..that would be too much mentally to overcome...
Dana Jacobson (10:33 AM)
DJ, last stuff I was reading was that boldin isn't a no in philly but much less likely with the peters trade. You know if anything's happening with those guys its pre draft so stay tuned
Andrew (Detroit)
Dana, you impressed with Rick Porcello?
Dana Jacobson (10:33 AM)
andrew, yes. nice to be impressed with a pitcher again early in the season!
Adam G. (Tampa, FL)
Jemele Hill's MSU man crush Shannon Brown played a significant role!
David, Atlanta
Dana, What about the Bears?? Do you think we'll go after a big name receiver to compliment Cutler or just rely on the draft?
Dana Jacobson (10:35 AM)
david chicago doesn't have much to give in return. I think the draft is more likely unless you're going to deplete your defense which not only isn't likely but would be dumb
Jay (Orlando)
how much parity is there now in pro sports? And that cover's all sports...now more dynasty's...whether it be ego's or better all around athletes, or even the salary cap...I think it's simply better athletes, what's your take?
Dana Jacobson (10:39 AM)
FJ, not sure of the number but I know they have a pick. that sounds right I'm trying to remember if it was mosley i was reading or who this weekend. Regardless they talked about it still being possible just very unlikely. It was one of the bloggers and I trust em
James ( Avalon NJ )
Can somebody please tell me what has happend to pitchers tipping their hat to the fans when they get applauded for the job they did? It's seems as if the manners of the new genaration are none existant. Jamie Moyer made me think of that when he tipped his hat in appriciation for fan support. I thought to myself wow you just don't get that recognition from the younger guys! Why might that be?
Dana Jacobson (10:39 AM)
James, honestly hadn't noticed that...will try to pay closer attention
Jeff Clemons, NC
Has any one out there besides me noticed the other (and by other, I mean not the Marlins) team in the NL? They have a 7 game win streak going. They are called the LA Dodgers.
David, Atlanta
Dana.. Maybe get rid of Urlacher if there was a market. He's getting old and seemed to be down on the whole Cutler deal. Lance Briggs could be the leader of that Defense IMO!
Dana Jacobson (10:40 AM)
David, that came up last week and a chicago insider shot it down...
Moderator (10:40 AM)
are the Hawks that good or the Heat that bad?
Chas (Burbank, CA)
Dana, Bout Philly going after Boldin. Don't they also have the #21 pick to offer Ari.?
Moderator (10:41 AM)
Is Magic Johnson right when he says the Lakers are keeping a close eye on the Cavs?
Chris (Lakeland Florida)
Andrew Jackson fact: He is the only President to pay off the national debt. Ironic seeing as Skip MUST have paid off chatters to say nice things about him.
Dana Jacobson (10:41 AM)
Chas, someone else asked this just a moment ago and i responded. not sure his question was posted looking down.
William Glassboro NJ
Hey that comment that Shaq made about Stan Van Gundy in the playoffs apears to be true now
Luke, Sarasota FL
The Hawks are just good at home what's new
Adam G. (Tampa, FL)
Dana the Lions need to draft Smith and then Sanchez I'm not sold on Stafford are you? I wasn't impressed with his interview with you as I was with Sanchez. It seems like Sanchez wants it more in m eyes.
Dana Jacobson (10:43 AM)
Adam, interviews are nice but not a sign of talent sadly. Sanchez seems more dynamic which yes matters at QB but stafford does have more under his belt. That being said i'm not sold on stafford. I would go smith and actually joshn freeman. curious if all the culpepper stuff about dropping weight looking good is for real. that certainly makes a difference
Umor (detroit mi)
Whoever the lions draft will be WROMG.
Daniel Lakeland, FL
If the Lions were smart, they'd trade the No. 1 pick. Then again, they are the Lions. They're the opposite of smart.
Dana Jacobson (10:45 AM)
come on haters...wait to hate. maybe they'll do something right
Dennis (Pamlico, NC)
The Eagles are gonna trade 1st round picks for multiple later round picks like always, very sad
Chas (Burbank, CA)
Nice point Jeff (NC).
stephen kc mo
CP3's coming out party was last year! this year its Rose! the guy is destined to be super star!
Moderator (10:51 AM)
3rd down topics coming up: Will Derek Rose be a superstar? Are the Celtics in trouble?
Johnnie French (Beaverton, OR)
Moderator, Miami isn't that bad BUT the Hawks are really good. As a Miami Heat fan, I think it's 50-50 chance they win the series but they have a much more overall talented team and not even having J. Moon hurts too.
Mark nj
Wow the Bulls beat the C's by 1 basket in overtime, because Peirce missed a FT & Ray Ray was ice cold? Watch out NBA finals the Bulls are coming! ( This is sarcasim)
James Denver
The Miami and D wade way over rated. They finished season with NBAs 14th best record and would of finished 10th and out of Playoffs in the West. D Wade is great but hes no MVP of league on that team.
David, Atlanta
With Rose and other young players doing well for the Bulls how many more seasons until we are a real contender? I ask this because everyone already counts us out!
Luke, FL
The NL east is a four headed beast, but I can guarantee the Mets wont fold like a house of cards again.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
If Ray Allen continues to miss shots then, yes the Celtics are in big trouble. I don't think they win without KG anyway but had to figure they could at least win the first round.
Chris (Lakeland Florida)
Mark nj: "This is sarcasm" Nooooooooo
Tyler: McColl, SC
I know it's only one game but against one of the top defensive point guards in the game today, Derrick Rose made it clear that he will be a force to be reckoned with in the NBA for many years to come.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Are we going to have the Flashes of Leather voting beginning this week?
Jay Crawford (11:02 AM)
soon johnny,....
David, Atlanta
Jay, don't hate on Dana cause her outfit looks better than yours!
Jay Crawford (11:02 AM)
i hope it does. i make my own clothes
Adam G. (Tampa, FL)
Any fans on the show debating Skip haha
Jay Crawford (11:02 AM)
yep...soon
Lew *Chicago*
Nice leg and shoe shot!!!
Michael (Jackson, MS)
Nobody has to worry about the question of if Denver can give the Lakers a run, cause the Hornets will win Game 2 and the series, just like Skip's been saying all year.
Jason (normal, IL)
The bulls will have to shoot 60% and the celtics would have to play bad for the bulls to pull off this upset
wes(hixson,tn)
Where's the love for Mark Martin,he won the race saturday night at the age of 50!!!! I bet Skip couldn't do that..lol love the show!!!! keep up the good work!
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
I predict the Braves will fall out of the NL East race by August 1st. As a Braves fan, I do not think they have the bullpen or enough consistency in the lineup to stay in the hunt nor do I think they have the coaching staff in place that can help bring the team along.
Hubb Decatur , AL
I think the cavs are gonna get nocked off and rose get a little more help nex year, they have a chance. Not this year. M.B for miami is not ready cus wade is doin it all and need help !! He need to up his game and stop hacken!!
Adam G. (Tampa, FL)
Shout out to Reischa Candidate
Jay Crawford (11:03 AM)
she shouts back
Michael (Jackson, MS)
Nobody has to worry about whether or not Denver could give the Lakers a run, cause the Hornets will win Game 2 and the series, just like Skip's been saying all year.
Dennis (Pamlico, NC)
Where can i find the Jay Crawford clothing line? im way behind on the times
James Denver
Looks to mr Ray Allen cant handle presure last season in Playoffs he disapeared and looked old and washed up against young Bulls.
Jessie ( West Chester )
Are the Marlins for real? Or is it to early to tell?
John, Austin
Dear Cody Ross, Wait until you face me instead of the Nats. Sincerely, Johan Santana
Chris (PA)
I think Derek Rose will be a superstar in the NBA and be one of the Elite point guards. The Bulls have a very bright future ahead of them but hopefully it doesn't fall apart like it did a couple years ago....The Celtics are in trouble because they have a good chance to get upset in this series. Without Garnett they lack a superstar and a big piece in the middle of the paint. Pierce and Allen have to step up to win these games. Rondo did what he could last game but no one else pulled threw. Celtics have to worry about losing this round but there is no way they can win a championship without KG.
Adam G. (Tampa, FL)
Thats cool
James Denver
Jay and Dana ESPN and FirstTake need to have contest allow one chatter to come debate Skip live in first and 10.
Adam G. (Tampa, FL)
How is Jemele not wearing Laker colors she has gold on
Jay Crawford (11:10 AM)
that would be color...not colors...lol
Lew *Chicago*
No love for the Lew today!!! lol
Jay Crawford (11:10 AM)
there ya go.
Rich (Reading Pa.)
"CHECK OUT THE THROWBACKS BRO"
Jay Crawford (11:11 AM)
ha!
Darius (MO)
Jay I think Skip was wrong last week when he said the Celtics was going to sweep the Bulls so yes Skip is wrong again
Jay Crawford (11:11 AM)
good pt! darius
Cody (shaftsbury, vt)
I think I could take skip bayless one on one.
Jay Crawford (11:11 AM)
cody, in what???
Curt (Hartford, CT) [via mobile]
No offense to Jay or Skip but I would love to see the women of First Take run the show...they are not only beautiful and fashiobable but they all know their stuff...I like seeing Skip argue with the world and Jay is great but Dana, Jemele, and Reischea bring a certain level of eye candy and knowledge that makes me wish my girlfriend was hot like them
John (Indiana)
Hey Jay, which team has the most Stanley Cups wins?
Jay Crawford (11:12 AM)
canadiens?
Adam (Akron, Ohio)
i think my DEAD ?GRANDMA caould take Skip one on one
Cody (shaftsbury, vt)
Sports debate.
James (Avalon NJ)
It's refreshing to hear the almost child like excitment in Cody Ross's voice. You can tell he has love for the game.
Dana Jacobson (11:14 AM)
James agreed and he was just as energetic in the commercial break. Didn't "turn it on" that is him it seems.
Bryan Brannock-Johnson City,TN
I know they don't cover much NASCAR on First Take, but Mark Martin deserves a mention because not only is the one of only 4 drivers in NASCAR history to win a race at or above the age of 50, but he is so respected by everyone. At least 15 competitors went to victory lane to personally congratulate Mark purely out of respect.
Dana Jacobson (11:16 AM)
Bryan we have a segment in hour number 2 on NASCAR as we do every monday and friday during the season and usually a driver if available during the week.
Dana Jacobson (11:17 AM)
Sorry but debating skip isn't the same as sitting at your neighborhood bar and bustin on eachother. Trust me it's harder than you think.
Yiung Wolfastic (Hopkins, South Carolina)
The bulls can definetly beat the Celtics! Look at all of there talent if you think about it they are the most talented team in all of basketball! I don't want to say it but I think Chicago will knock off the overrated Celtics. Of course they're the defending champs but they've never had to comeback in a series.
Derek (MO)
Derrick Rose gonna be the number one point guard in the league? I think deron and CP3 might have a say on that
Josh (Atlanta)
I am 19 I don't go to the bar with my friends. I actually follow sports closely thank you.
Dana Jacobson (11:19 AM)
Sitting at the bar at your house, what i'm saying is it is difficult to make your point in a short amount of time and do what they do.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
The Yankees can't send Wang to Scranton but what if they put him on the DL then had him rehab with Scranton? It's a way for them to work around the system.
Adam (Akron, Ohio)
Skip ... Wrong ... NO WAY
Adam G. (Tampa, FL)
Wow Jay a typo big woop lol
Matt (B-More, MD)
I predicted the Sixers to win in 6. So tell A.I. that I have his back!
Walter (Greensboro,NC)
Why is it so difficult to imagine Ray Allen having another bad game today? In case people have forgotten, he was pretty awful throughout the playoffs last year, and it's not like he has a ton of playoff experience before that.
Michael (Jackson, MS)
Anybody who thinks that Derek Rose is, or will be, better than CP3 shouldn't even act like they know anything about basketball in general. I understand being a fan, but come on, lets be realistic.
Jay Crawford (11:24 AM)
wont be my last...promice
Moderator (11:24 AM)
4th down...whats the reason for all the Yankee Stadium homers, the Yanks bullpen or the Stadium?
Pete Duma (Atlantic city NJ)
Just the other day I was telling a freind that ESPN should have a contest, so the Above Average Fan can go one on one with self imposed Mighty Skip. He doesn't scare me and I would cherish the opportunity to take him on.
Pat W Vermillion SD
Skip, Rondo may be better then Rose now, but if you're comparing progression between the players Rose has had a much better first year then Rondo had if you remember that. Rondo is in his 3rd year, Rose in his first we will see where the two compare two years down the road.
Adam G. (Tampa, FL)
Iggy ups is a beast what if the original AI was on this team they'd be pretty good.
Steve (Medford, NY)
Am I the only one who can't read his own comments??
Moderator (11:24 AM)
try now steve
Evan (Lawrence, KS)
Doesn't New Yankee Stadium have the same field dimensions as the old one? If that's the case, then the problem is either pitching or a cursed organization. Remember, the Yankees have only won WS titles when they had the old stadium. Is it any coincidence that they haven' won since plans were finalized for the new stadium. The ghost of Babe Ruth is NOT pleased.
Cody (shaftsbury, vt)
I don't think it matters if the park is the reason theyre hitting so many HRs, because they have equal opportunity to hit the HRs.
wes(hixson,tn)
Hey Jay, how about getting GOLIC to come on and debate with SKIP..size does matter!!!lol
Moderator (11:25 AM)
that would be great!
Evan (Lawrence, KS)
If Wang gets sent to Scranton, he could work at Dunder Mifflin, or at Michael Scott Paper Company. That'd be comedy GOLD.
jay crawford (11:25 AM)
id watch! the office rocks! so does the michael scott paper co
Josh (Atlanta)
All of the Above. The Yankees bullpen is garbage and maybe it's just Cleveland's line-up!
Don (Reno, Nv)
Yes, Dana, but their topics are selected prior to the discussion. So that should give both people debating plenty of time to get the point across.
jay crawford (11:26 AM)
good point josh. fact is, both staffsa re horrible. yanks 28th, indians 30th, and both have left handed mashers... the ball does seem to jump out though
Dennis (Pamlico, NC)
About the home runs, its gotta be the pitching, because the lengths and dimensions of the new stadium are the same as the old, so the pitchers just had a bad day
Walter (Greensboro,NC)
Let's be realistic Michael. Derrick Rose had an unbelievable season, and I don't seem to remember CP3 taking his team into the defending champs house and winning in the playoffs as a rookie. In fact I do believe he just got done getting destroyed in game 1 and this is his 4th season, right?
Concerned viewer
Do you have amonia sticks to wake Skip up from his naps during the Commmercials?
Moderator (11:27 AM)
you do have the topics but aren't certain who is arguing what. I am sure there are a lot of people with great knowledge out there. You have a varying amount of time for each topic, someone talking in your ear and a million studio variables I won't get into . Im sure there are people out there who could do it, i just think this TV thing isn't always as easy as everyone thinks it is. I'll leave it at that
jay crawford (11:27 AM)

Johnny (Scranton, PA)
The field dimensions are the same but is the stadium exterior the same? There may be changes to those dimensions (height, facades, etc.) that are affecting the wind when the ball gets up in the air.
jay crawford (11:29 AM)
the early thoughts are the wind flow is greater to right than the old park due to design
Chris (Lakeland Florida)
How exactly is the bullpen to blame for Wang's 6IP and an ERA approaching his jersey #?
Adam (Akron, Ohio)
JAY ... ALL OHIO CHATS should get posted
jay crawford (11:29 AM)
they do:)
Patrick (Lebanon,KY)
Good Moring Dand and Jay watch the show every day I love it. Sincer u all have been talkin bout D Rose this morning wat have u all heard about the 2nd coming of him in John Wall the man can play hopes he comes to UK
jay crawford (11:34 AM)
he was in studio with us last week. great athlete! great kid!
Matt (B-More, MD)
That's why I'm hated on!!!! Baltimore tried to steal your team Jay. I am sorry for that. I am a Skins fan and am the only person that owns a Brady Quinn Browns jersey besides his family.
jay crawford (11:34 AM)
lol
Adam (Akron, Ohio)
and Jay, the ESPN execs come over to Nantucket for a golf outing every year towards the end of the summer ... Come this year and ask for Adam as your Caddie ... Good Times
jay crawford (11:34 AM)
id love to...but the execs never invite me! man!
Steve (Medford, NY)
Girardi should just make a rule for his pitchers, no throwing inside to lefty hitters
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Hey I have to run. As always, thanks for allowing me to express myself in the chat. I really enjoy it. Have a great day First Take crew. Stay safe, spend some time with your families, and I'll check in again tomorrow. Later!
Jonathan (Atlanta, GA)
actually I can't read my own comments either
victor monoroe,la
orlando will win their series new orleans will upset dever in7 and florida marlins don,t make postseason.
Jonathan (Atlanta, GA)
As a die-hard Yankee fan, I would love to say the Stadium......but sadly I must say it's the sorry pitching. I'm hoping it's just rust from a long off season.
jay crawford (11:35 AM)
remember, the indians hit 11 in 4 games..the yankees hit 9
James Denver
I would take Rose over CP3 any day. Rose is taller more athletic and gambles less on defense ttying to get steals like CP3.
Dennis (Pamlico, NC)
Isnt John Wall coming to Duke? Would be a smart move with the other freshman class that are coming, not to mention Seth Curry making the right choice
jay crawford (11:35 AM)
hasnt decided yet
Sean (TR NJ)
The scary thing about the Marlins, all they need is a foot in the door. A wildcard birth could get them to the World Series (we have seen it happen before with them) Rays & Marlins World Series would do wonders for baseball in Florida
Adam G. (Tampa, FL)
Jay correct the spelling
jay crawford (11:36 AM)
nopee
Mingo(Chicago)
I think the Lakers still cant count out the Spurs even though they lost to the Mavs. They are to onlt team can get them a run for their money
Zach (Hattiesburg, MS)
Of course nd's qb is going to have a great year. Who wouldn't with a cakewalk schedule liek theirs?
wes(hixson,tn)
watchout for the LANETRAIN....GO VOLS!!..SKIPS FAVORITE TEAM...LOL
Umor (detroit mi)
14 in one inning, it makes coors field looks like a pitchers park.
Michael (Jackson, MS)
Jay and Dana, why don't you guys give your opinion on the debate between Walter and I...CP3 or Rose? I don't think its even close. Rose isn't the scorer or passer that CP3 is.
Ryan (Champaign, IL)
Derrick Rose needs to take a summer to work on defense and shooting like Skip says that LeBron needs to do. If he does that, he will be great.
Dana Jacobson (11:36 AM)
michael - CP3
Cody (shaftsbury, vt)
Think there is a chance the yanks made the park lkike that on purpose and aren't saying it?
Cody (shaftsbury, vt)
Good point Chris.
Jay Crawford (11:37 AM)
chris always makes good points.
Phil4/20 (Tampa, FL)
that albert pujols commercial is hillarious
Justin Vescio (Parker,az)
Hello
Jay Crawford (11:37 AM)
agreed
David, Atlanta
Mingo, You can't argue against the Lakers!! Too many folks ride their bandwagon.
Rich (Reading Pa.)
It's not the stadium ,its the balls ,thay replace the core with superballs for home games
Jay Crawford (11:37 AM)
lol
Walter (Greensboro,NC)
No seriously, I need somebody to tell me why we should expect anything special from Ray Allen. If we're gonna hate on TMac and Melo for not playing well in the playoffs, I think it should be noted the Allen has been a joke artist at best in the playoffs since coming to Boston.
Ryan: (Champaign IL):
Wang needs 46 scoreless IP to get his ERA back to under 4. Its pitching, not the field. Its not like the wind stops blowing when the Yankees bat. With that lineup? They should be able to outscore opponents easily.
Matt (B-More, MD)
off topic... but the new Asher Roth cd came out today. He is the second coming of eminem. You should bring people on to perform their music!
Jay Crawford (11:39 AM)
the yankees have 9, opponents 11 in 4 games
Dana Jacobson (11:39 AM)
Matt we used to do that. People didn't watch so we stopped.
SteveFitz (Cicero, IL)
Derrick Rose's jumper has already come a long way since the beginning of the season, but yes, he needs to work on it more. Add the deadly 3 and watch out.
Dana Jacobson (11:40 AM)
steve, agreed
Sean (TR NJ)
Game three's are always important in the playoffs, but game three is a must win for the Rangers. I know you would think its the other way around, but if the Rangers let hope into the Caps locker room, this series could go 7 and end badly for them.
Dana Jacobson (11:41 AM)
Sean, melrose picked the caps to go to the stanley cup finals. i know..so. but by saying that i mean its a team that knows how to win and you're dead on, give a team like that hope and watch out
Jessie ( West Chester Pa)
Is the Marlins great start resulting in a change in fan attendence?
Dana Jacobson (11:41 AM)
Jessie - Don't know but it sure didn't matter in other years until playoff time.
Adam (Akron, Ohio)
The Marlins start can be credited to none other then THE NATIONALS ...
Dana Jacobson (11:44 AM)
Adam you may very well be right - we'll see in a couple months. I will say this. Don't totally underestimate winning the games you're supposed to win.
Dana Jacobson (11:44 AM)
Jefe you're golden
Dennis (Pamlico, NC)
Everyone hating on the Yankees & Skip just because they are always contenders every year. Greatness doesn't come cheap!!
Jay Crawford (11:44 AM)
exactly
Pat (Vermillion South Dakota)
Alex Ovechkin was the reason that the rangers scored a goal he gave the puck up right at center ice for a 2 on 1. But the caps had 35 shots and just could not score, they will bounce back they have to much talent
Jefe(chicago,Il)
moderator this is my 1st time let me know if these messages are going through
Jay Crawford (11:45 AM)
um yes
Pat (Washington)
What is the reaction of the rest of the nation with Jr. back in Seattle? Its a huge deal here in the Northwest?
Dana Jacobson (11:48 AM)
Pat, got a little buzz when he went..the team is getting more buzz b/c of it's start but beyond that low on the buzz scale from what i can tell
James ( Avalon NJ )
Do you guys think that the Yankees brass will make alterations to the park at seasons end, like Philly did to their phone booth park? Not that it made much difference!
Phil4/20 (Tampa, FL)
i dont think we see jr as a factor anymore, but its nice he can finish his career there
Zach (Hattiesburg, MS)
I'm glad to see it, but I grew up watching him in Seattle
Justin Franklin, PA
Although the yanks field is generous to hitters, the Yanks bullpen is awful other than Rivera. Skip Bayless could get a hit off the pitchers the yanks have.. well at least get a piece cuz we know he can't do anything athletic
Miguel (Philadelphia)
Skip has to be kidding me when he said people are overreacting about Derick Rose!! He stated during the NCAA tournament that he thinks Ty Lawson was better than Rose. Please pull the tape. Then he says that he only shoots 78% from the line. That's better than Deron Williams' first 2 seasons. Tony Parker's career free throw percentage is 72%.
Phil4/20 (Tampa, FL)
people really just hate skip and the yankees. i dont mind skip, hate the latter. im a boston fan living in tampa, but i think the yankees just need to work things out, there is no way a team that talented will lose too many games this year
Adam G. (Tampa, FL)
Get Joba back as Mo Rivera's set up man I mean cmon on that's what the Yankees need. AJ CC and Pettite can hold down the rotation.
Dana Jacobson (12:02 PM)
talk to you all tomorrow
