morning gang...1st down topics for you... did you hear what Dampier said about how the Mavs are going to treat Tony Parker? smart or dumb?
James ( Avalon NJ )
Top of morning guys a gals! Hey all I just wanted to let you know how much pleasure you have given me. I'm disabled and suffer from chronic pain in my back and legs. I haven't looked forward to mornings in a long time. I signed on to the show for the first time about two weeks ago. They say alot of peoples pain comes from the mind if it's not occupied, well thanks to you guys I not only look forward to mornings again. I also have minimal pain for a couple hours. I don't want recognition I just want to say thank you for brigthning my mornings, you're all a blessing! Even Skip!!!
WES(HIXSON,TN)
GOOD MORNING GANG!!! EVERYBODY WANTS TO TALK ABOUT DERRICK ROSE, I THANK WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT THE REAL POINT GUARD,RAJON RONDO HE GETS BETTER EVERYTIME I WATCH HIM..GIVE THIS KID THE LOVE HE DESERVES..I'M TALKING TO YOU SKIP(THE BUZZ SAW)BAYLESS!!!
Chris (Lakeland Florida)
I'm sure we could give Skip a better nickname than 'The Buzzsaw'
Dennis Rodgers (Euclid,Ohio)
Why doesn't Carmello Anthony get any love for getting his team to playoffs every year since he was drafted?
Chris (Lakeland Florida)
Ray Allen, Ben Gordon, Rudy Gay, Rip Hamilton, etc...etc...UConn doesn't exactly jump to mind when you talk about pro hoops factories the way USC does for NFL players. They should.
javere (brooklyn, ny)
theres nothing they can do tony is going to continue to get his shots their focus should be on the role players
Lew *Chicago*
The NBA should be ashamed of itself. The real story is how key calls went against the BULLS early on and they fought through it. Come on D-Rose 2 fouls and Kirk Hinrich 3 in the 1st quarter!!! And they were all over the BULLS backs all night. That is poise because you know it is going to happen when you play on the road and they still were in it to the end! BULLS in 6!
Derek (Wash DC)
I think the comment Dampier made is extremely stupid and puts a target on his back. If Parker gets fouled hard at all, everyone will be wondering if it was planned or not. I think if you want to rough a player up, you don't go out in the media and advertise it.
Chris (Lakeland Florida)
Why is jemele wearing Celtics colors?
James Denver
Welcome to Playoff Basketball Lew. Hometeam always gets early calls road team always has to play against refs and opposing team. Thats the Playoffs
Jonathan (Atlanta, GA)
Skip and Jenelle are absolutely on point with their comments regarding the Celtics. They threw their best punch at the Bulls and the most they could do was win on a last second by 3 on a last second jumper. If you're a Celtics fan, you should be VERY scared!
Adam G. Tampa, FL
Derrick Rose is going to go off in game 3 since Rondo outplayed him last night.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
The question for me is how do you let Ray Allen beat you? He's the one guy on the floor with a hot hand and you let him get off a shot? The Bulls deserved to lose.
Adam G. Tampa, FL
Erica Dampier's tutu is a little tight today. Timmy D is going to have something to say about that.
Brian (Dover)
Has Erick Dampier ever said anything smart. the Spurs dont need billboard material, but I wouldn't offer any.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Have they put Paul Pierce's picture on milk cartons in Boston yet?
Adam G. Tampa, FL
Dampier and Dirk are soft they cry about all calls
Mike Pace (Mobile, Al)
I totally agree with skip and I am a college basketball fan but it gets nobetter than the NBA
Chris (Lakeland Florida)
Skip, "Why not?" really? You can't figure out why you don't go public with the gameplan of fouling the guy every time he gets within visual range of the hoop? Why WOULD you? Why give the refs any reason to call the game closer if that's your intent? Keep it in the lockerroom. Teams would be wise to follow that lead more often.
Cody (shaftsbury, vt)
I feel bad for Dirk. Every time that team starts looking better they ruin it. They let Nash and Jamison get away, then they make one of the dumbest trades for Jason Kid.
Moderator (10:22 AM)
2nd down topics coming up: Skip will unload on Michael Crabtree's comments in USA Today; we'll debate the usefullness of the Lions new logo...
Brian (Dover)
The pressure is now on the young Bulls to take care of home, where everybody will expect them to win now. Boston is still the champ. dont underestimate their heart.
umor (detroit mi)
The bad boys use to do it to the celtics. They use to tell byrd and parrish they in for a long day if they go into the paint.
jeff h (chicago)
rose is a star. even when he is not scoring 36, he made timely blocks, steals and still got the ball to gordon, the hot hand. this is going to be a long series.
James ( Avalon NJ )
Psychological warfare is definitely not Dampier's strong suit! Pretty Dumb.
Dana Jacobson (10:27 AM)
morning. late start for me. jay said at the top of the show talk sports with us, I say talk whatever your heart desires.
Rc (Ashland Ky)
(No offense Dana) but that is a bigger problems for the Lions rather than wimpy uniforms and that is,,, NO OFFENSE :p
Dana Jacobson (10:27 AM)
Rc - no offense taken. i agree
Mark nj
I hope the #1 pick doesn't get reported early like Jake long last yr. It takes the fun out of it.
Dana Jacobson (10:28 AM)
mark, speaking of...jake long coming up either after this segment or after the break
David, Atlanta
Dana... Yesterday we talked about the Bears trying to trade for a #1 receiver and decided they don't have the ammunition. Do you know if they at least looked at Tory Holt and if they are considering Marvin Harrison?? Is there a place you can view salary cap information?
Dana Jacobson (10:29 AM)
David, I'll be honest. Not sure about holt. I was up on the jags talks that obviously worked out. Let me see if i can tell you a salary cap spot
Jefe(chicago,Il)
I know after last nights bulls celtics game the haters will be out today(Skip). But just to put derek rose's rookie season in perspective. he averaged more points than Kobe, Nash, Stockton, D. Will, CP3, J kidd, and D wade. while only CP3 and kidd averaged more ast(+1.5). Only CP3, nash, and kobe shoot beeter from the stripe. and none shoot beter from the feild. so is he a superstar in the making, it seems that way by the numbers.
James Denver
George Karl was robbed! He more then anyone deserved Coach of the Year. The Nuggets were the 2nd best team in the Westernconfrence this season. They were predicted to be out of the Playoffs and some people had them finishing as low as the 10th 11th best team in West. They traded a Hall of Fame player there 2 best defensive players and change from a fast break team to defensive team with out a training camp.
Moderator (10:32 AM)
James, in 3rd down we'll debate the Coach of the Year results...maybe someone will agree with you
Will (WV)
James, come on....yeah they came in second to the Lakers, but Brown had the best team in the league and 66 wins for the first time in franchise history!
James Denver
Skip is stuck in the 2008 Playoffs. All his picks Spurs Hornets Jazz all were alot better teams last season but its the 2009 Playoffs now Hornets and Jazz are to banged up to do anything and Spurs are to old.
cj (Boyceville WI)
mike brown is the coach of the year hands down. he is an absolute defensive genious!
Tom (River North)
I have to agree with James in Denver. I always thought the Cavs won despite Mike Brown, not because of him. LeBron stepped up his game and Mo Williams was a huge addition, plus the East just isn't as tough as it was last year.
Deon (Cleveland)
Whats the deal with the Browns and Braylon? If the Browns are having a QB challenge how is it going to be a winner with throwing passes to Cribbs, Steptoe, and 3 less than talented TE's?
Barbara (GA)
Is sports analyst, Jalen Rose related to Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls?
Jay Crawford (10:35 AM)
barbara, no, not that i know of
Brian (Dover)
Coach of the year should have been Nate McMillan. Youngest team in the league. Home playoff series. In the WEST. Need i say more.
Paul ((Allentown, PA)
I agree with you 100% James...
Jason(Cleveland)
To argue James point. Don't act like the cupboard is bare in Denver. Karl has two superstars in Billups and Anthony. An assasin in J.R. SMith and a couple 7' shot blockers in the paint. The Cavs had 66 wins. Give Mike Brown his due. He got Lebron to become ione of the best defenders in the NBA.
Rich (Reading Pa.)
comments not showing up ,must not be witty enough, whats the secret Johnny
Jay Crawford (10:36 AM)
that was witty rich
dave (home)
making a prediction: CLEVELAND WONT MAKE IT TO THE NBA FINALS THIS YEAR THEY WILL CHOKE!!!!! THANK YOU
Jay Crawford (10:36 AM)
we'll see david. the east is loaded...
Steve (NY)
Is there anyone out there who would rather have Stallworth or Ocho Cinco on their team rather than Boldin?
James Denver
everyone hates on Denver so I bet noone will agree Karl was robbed.
Jay Crawford (10:36 AM)
not me...
Danny (Tonasket, Wa.)
James, I was a Sonics fan during Karl's reign there as coach and I said at the time and nothing has changed my mind, that he is a great coach if you want to see very entertaining regular season games, but will never be a championship coach. The style of play he likes is not the style that wins championships.
Derek (Wash DC)
I would like to know what the big deal is with Alex Ovechkin trying to watch a NY Rangers practice. The patriots video taped their opponents practices for years and were only given a slap on the wrist. Now you have the NHLs best player trying to intimidate his opponents by sitting in on their pratice. The NY Rangers got scared, and had him removed.
Dana Jacobson (10:40 AM)
derek on a basic level...it's against nhl rules
Clint (Lubbock, Tx)
what is the topic of crabtree about?
Dana Jacobson (10:42 AM)
Clint you have to go to twitter and follow us espn_firsttake
Dana Jacobson (10:43 AM)
but so you know...it's which current nfl player does crabtree think he's most like (I believe)
Lew *Chicago*
Dana, be straight up. Who will win the NFC norht?
Dana Jacobson (10:44 AM)
Lew, not a clue right now. to me bears/vikings/packers all with a shot. no one is talking about green bay b/c they haven't done much but again i want to see the draft. i can't see the lions contending but hope i'm wrong
Dana Jacobson (10:45 AM)
lew, i apologize for being so wishy washy today
Jason(Cleveland)
As a Cleveland Fan I am uphauled by what Tom in River North said. "won despite Mike Brown". Are you kidding me? Some people just don't know what they are talking about.
David, Atlanta
Lew, It's gonna be DA BEARS man.. Don't mistake my Atlanta tag I bleed Chicago blood. I think Cutler is going to improve our offense 10 fold and our defense will step up to its championship level this year. We should have made the playoffs last year but we had to put Rex in for a few games.
Paul (Allentown, PA)
Its to early to make predictions bc the Draft can change everything up
Tom (River North)
Cavs didn't finish behind the Lakers...
Adam G. (Tampa, FL)
Lebron and Kobe are being compared to Magic and Bird but shouldn't Carmelo and Lebron be the ones compared? They came into the league at the same time like Magic and Bird and I think these two teams will be meeting for the title. (Cavs vs. Nuggets) (Kobe's Jordan)
Cody (shaftsbury, vt)
Thats good stuff Jefe.
Tom (River North)
Just Google NFL Salary Cap and there will be a number of websites that come up.
Clint (Lubbock, Tx)
No Way, Skip! Im a texas tech student and watch every game of crabtree for 2 years. He is a great reciever. He opens the field for texas tech thats why tech was so good this year. Even if you bash texas tech, crabtree was great hands and a soild blocker. Not every wr in the draft can say that.. speedy wrs are a dime a dozen.
Mike (WI)
Chicago fans are the most annoying people in the world!
Jay Crawford (10:54 AM)
mike, trust me...there are cities with more obnoxious fans than chicago...trust me...
Matt (New Britain,CT)
how about ray allen, outshining rose's performance in game 1 i think.
Jessie ( West Chester )
I totally disagree with Skipper (The Ego Chipper). Crabtree will prove Skip wrong. I do agree Crab needs to shut up and put up!
Chris (Lakeland Florida)
I actually like the new Lions logo. It's probably time for them to not sell any merchandise with a new look. It's not a good sign when your top selling jersey is a guy that hasn't played a game for you in a decade. The only way those jerseys will make a difference is if Barry Sanders will be wearing one....over pads.
Rich (Reading Pa.)
I now love Skip
Jay Crawford (10:55 AM)
and he now loves you... lol
Danny (Tonasket, Wa.)
Like Cleveland Jay???
Cody (shaftsbury, VT)
Why should the CAVS coach get it when the doc rivers didn't last year? Wasn't doc rivers "punished" for having such a good team?
Dana Jacobson (10:56 AM)
cody no offense to the cavs, but i think the celtics are more stacked with the big 3
Jay Crawford (10:56 AM)
hey danny. that's baiting...cleveland fans are just hungry. please excuse any obnoxious activity
Paul (Allentown, PA)
Skip is the man...people dont like him because he is right a lot of the times and tells it how it is.. I mean Lil Wayne is cool with Skip lol
Deon (Cleveland)
If Mike Vick does the reality shw of his life and shows the public howhe's helping out back with the community and working out vigorously do you think he has a chance to come in someones training camp if Goddell says he's good to go?
Brett (Tampa)
Bye Bye Braylon...welcome new bust by the Browns
Dana Jacobson (10:57 AM)
Deon, I dont think the reality show will be a factor in him getting into a camp
Tyler: Norwalk, CT
Skip and Jamelle are bugging, Michael Crabtree is going to a beast on the next level. He's got a Larry Fitzgerald skill set coming out of college and he's only going to get better.
Brandon (Colorado)
I cant believe you guys disrespected Crabtree like that. The man only carried texas tech last year.Wiithout him tech would'nt have made a Bcs bowl.Look at the stats he is the best reciever in the Draft.
Adam (Akron)
Mike Brown is a TERRIBLE coach ... this from a Cleveland Fan ... REMEMEBER PEOPLE, he STATRED Larry Hughes for 2 seasons ...
Dana Jacobson (11:13 AM)
3rd down includes mike brown debate
Will (WV)
People just love to hate great talent! Crabtree is going to explode in the NFL hands down!
scott (chi)
Crabtree is good but he played on a team which was pass happy which inflates his stats. We have found out hes isnt 6'2 or 3' and is hurt with that said I still think hes good but he isnt like a Randy Moss prospect either.
Jake (Syracuse)
Crabtree might be a product of the system, never know until he gets in a pro system, thats the problem w drafting him so high.
Matt (New Britain,CT)
it wasn't harrell that carried that team to be competiive in the big 12,it was crabtree. when he wasn't healthy, the red raiders faltered and looked terrible and average
David, Atlanta
All they really said is he's no Calvin Johnson... which lets be honest.. he isn't.
Cody (shaftsbury, vt)
Brandon, but it's a weak draft. They said he is the best receiver in the draft, it just so happens the best isn't that great.
Jake (Syracuse)
Mike Brown is the coach of the best team in the East and he only lost 2 games at home, why wouldn't a Cleveland fan be happy w him?
Matt (New Britain,CT)
give coach of the year to spoelstra of the heat, what a turnaround
Bryan (Tennessee)
I agree with Skip about Crabtree. He's going to have to put in alot of work to be a big WR in the NFL. Plu, Harvin is the best all around WR in this years draft in my opinion.
Billy (Jacksonville)
Why does Crabtree get so much pub but the guy slinging him the ball has been virtually invisible through the whole draft process?
Jason(Cleveland)
I just wanna ask all Basketball fans to tune in tonight and watch the King and his Cavs dominate the pittiful Pistons.Go Cavs!!!
scott (chi)
Dana what do you think the chances are of Plex going to jail this year or play? Also if you think he will play this year where?
Moderator (11:21 AM)
3rd down coming up: includes hockey talk...Ovechkin hanging out watching Rangers practice before he was asked to leave...rate this on the gamesmanship scale..
Brandon (Colorado)
Harvin has to learn Routes.Crabtree does that better then alot of pros already.
scott (chi)
Billy because Graham Harell just insnt that good he is colt brenan 2.
Dana Jacobson (11:22 AM)
scott, everyone seems to be saying that he will. by everyone i mean most media folks in the know... he's not back in court till what like june. so unless its a very short stay, time on the field seems very unlikely.
Will (WV)
Grahamm Harell will be just fine whereever he goes...the kid is good and has potential..just a bit of time and he will be back inthe big picture.
Patrick (Chicago)
Best Basketball we have seen in Chicago since MJ left
Brian (Dover)
Mike Brown is a good coach. But Nate Mcmillian took the youngest team in the league to a home playoff series in the WEST. No contest in my opinion.
Clint (Lubbock, Tx)
Jake, how is playing in a college system that throws the ball 90% of the time is bad for a wr?
Frank (Cleveland)
Harvin=Ted Ginn. He is fast on special teams, which makes him look better then he really is, and the NFL will catch up to him...
Dana Jacobson (11:22 AM)
scott, again, i haven't seen anything recently suggesting he'll reach a plea
Jake (Syracuse)
Bryan from Tenn, you think Harvin is the best WR in the draft, you must be a displaced Gator fan to say that. He's fast, but he cant run routes yet, he wasnt even a fulltime WR in college, hes gonna be a Ted Ginn if he goes early in round 1.
John (Austin)
Maybe this Schuster kid can take C.M. Wong's place for the Yankees
Monty (DC)
Crabtre is another TO. He is the most physically built out of the receivers and proved the most in college. Gets no love just like TO as the best receiver.
Cody (shaftsbury, vt)
They said they don't want a pleabargain to include any less than 12 months in jail.....
Donny (Boston)
Ovechkin has way more sportsmanship than Sean Avery, but thats not saying much!
Matt (New Britain,CT)
4 no-no's,wow,someone sign him now
Clint (Lubbock, Tx)
Billy, harrell has a average arm and when he is rattled makes bad move after bad move
jeremy (grand junction co)
kid with the no hitters is amazing, i mean 4 in a row at any level is impressive!
Prince (Waycross)
Who will win NBA MVP
Dana Jacobson (11:24 AM)
prince, lebron
John (Orlando)
C'mon Stan Van Gundy should've had coach of the year easily
Ronnie (Laurel, DE)
Getting the #2 seed in the West, George Karl should have been Coach of the Year..At the beginning of the year some thought Denver would not even make the playoffs
Ken (Richmond, VA)
Ovechkin watching Rangers practice was just desperation. He choked in the playoffs last year and choked in the first two games of this series. He had to do something to get going so I guess he figured he'd try to pull a Bellicheat and tape his opponents' practice or whatever he did.
todd ca [via mobile]
ovechkin gamesmanship is about a one on a scale to ten if you have to cheat to win then your bad
Derek (Washington DC)
I loved that Ovechkin tried to sit in on the NY Rangers practice. If nothing else it was a good intimidation factor. It's not like he video taped practices secretly and let the whole team watch like the Patriots did for years. I think this as just a fun wawy to play mind games before the game and it obviously worked with the Capitals shutting out the NY Rangers and MSG
Paul (Denver)
Dana- Do you know if its was the Lions intentions to sell more jerseys with this unvieling? If so, they failed miserably cause they look identical from afar. What Lion fan would want to buy one when there old one is the same?
Dana Jacobson (11:38 AM)
Paul, I don't. haven't really talked with anyone there about it.
Drew (Buffalo)
Yeah Derek, ovechkin sitting on the bench for a few minutes during practice was the reason that the Caps won that game.........
Steve (New York)
Oveckin gamesmanship : 0 out of 10. He's a loud mouth chump who couldn't score a single goal with 19 shots in the first 2 games and needed to find some kind of illegal edge on everyone to change that.
Dana Jacobson (11:39 AM)
rangers fans are angry!
Michael (virginia)
I actually just emailed but listen to this I have that interview DVRd and the interviewer actually referrs to lebrons teammates as the supporting cast when they ask the question
Dana Jacobson (11:40 AM)
interesting michael
Sam (Indiana)
Why are we so quick to call Lebron the king when he hasen't even won it all.
Dana Jacobson (11:40 AM)
Sam, I mean skip, I mean sam...
Steve (Chicago)
Why is it that hockey and their athletes get no respect from the media? The Stanley Cup is the hardest trophy to win in professional sports and the players are never involved never involved with the law like basketball/football/baseball
Dana Jacobson (11:42 AM)
Steve, never say never. But it's a valid question. I think guys get respect but it's a different level. Look flat out fewer people understand hockey and that factors in to who you praise sometimes. I think Gretzky gets the respect due, Gordie Howe sure did... Takes someone special though
Drew (Buffalo)
players never incolved with the law?!?! The greatest player ever used to be on games. 2 canadien players are connected with a russian mafia. Mogilny's life was threatened twice in his career.
Dana Jacobson (11:43 AM)
Drew, it's the never say never factor I was talking about. things have been less reported barring them being at tragic levels.
Drew (Buffalo)
Patrick Roy has been arrested multiple times. Dany Heatley killed a teammate. Eddie Belfour has been arrested. Should I go one?
Dana Jacobson (11:44 AM)
Drew Roys arrests rarely make national news Heatley did as I mentione its the tragic stuff that does. DUIs in general, domestic violence not as much as other sports. But there are no angels among any of us
David, Atlanta
Jay, Like Yankees or Lakers fans? :)
christopher (San Antonio)
Hockey? Hockey? I mean were talking about Hockey! . . . . Why?
Jay Crawford (11:47 AM)
hmmm...dabvd youre getting close....
Rich (Reading Pa.)
It's great that lebron is so cool with his teammates. I think he's just letting them know that playtime is over
Danny (Tonasket, Wa.)
From an old Phil Espisito fan, when the fans return to hockey, the media will cover it more.
Jay Crawford (11:48 AM)
danny, the biggest problem is the platform they are on. they need their games on tv channels people either know about, or know how to find them..
Steve (Long Island, NY)
Has anyone switched to geico and found the money watching them lately?
Jay Crawford (11:48 AM)
i have that happen all the time steve.
Deon (Cleveland)
What is the deal on Pat White? Has any team been interested looking at him?
Tom (River North)
Jay, you're talking about Boston fans, right? They are pretty obnoxious...
Jay Crawford (11:49 AM)
could be, or not... i'll say this, fans in the north east are as rabid as fans anywhere. it's a bigger part of the fabric here than anywhere i've lived.
Chris (Lakeland Florida)
Wow, that '06 draft looks UGLY.....wow.
Craig(Buffalo,NY)
chris from san antonio, come to Buffalo and I'll show you why hockey is better than your boring Spurs.
Dana Jacobson (11:49 AM)
Deon, yes. Pats I believe trying to think off the top of my head.. I remember reading NE, I feel like cowboys too
Donny (Boston)
yeah its hard for hockey to get a lot of attention since ESPN doesnt show their games anymore
jay crawford (11:49 AM)
sadly, donny.
Murphy (Denver)
Dana-Lions 0-16 Wolverines 3-8 whats wrong with The Football programs in michigan not the Economy, what is it? also want skips take seems he is straight honest with his comments
Craig(Buffalo,NY)
But Dana, you guys care much more about players like "Pacman" and Artest when the NHL doesn't have that as much as the other major sports.
Rc (Ky)
DeAngelo Williams was on of the best pick ups in the 06 draft.
Steve (Long Island, NY)
Lebron will look great as a Knick in 2010, he's the man.
Jay Crawford (11:50 AM)
hey steven, not so fast! lol
Dana Jacobson (11:51 AM)
Craig - Without seeing numbers I wouldn't say the as much as other major sports. Let's look at arrest records then talk. Do we do too much on pacman and the like, yes! But you all keep watching in droves
Craig(Buffalo,NY)
Jay, how bout the network you work for in terms of covering hockey
Jay Crawford (11:51 AM)
we could definitely do more craig.
Steve (Long Island, NY)
Is that part of why ESPN doesn't talk much about hockey? Not having a contract with NHL?
Jay Crawford (11:51 AM)
steve, hard to say.
Clint (Lubbock)
Jay, i have to say college football fan are way more obnoxious than pro fans, sooner fan are the worse
Dana Jacobson (11:52 AM)
Steve, I was here when we did and doing sportscenter and to be honest, I don't think we did more. NHL Tonight was more yes but on the regular shows same amount. Truly.
Drew (Buffalo)
Dana, I heard you and the NHL were romanticly involved? Any truth to this rumor?
Jay Crawford (11:52 AM)
lol. funny, in norman they say texas dans are. that's what i love about college football. chatter never ends, and the passion runs deeeeeeeep!
chuck (brooklyn newyork)
why are the yankees strugling
Jay Crawford (11:52 AM)
chuck, pitching and jet stream...mostly pitching.
Brandon (IL)
The NHL messed up when they didn't sign another tv contract with espn....they lost all their sportscenter highlights and all kinds of face time....what do we get now a hockey minute?
Paul (Denver)
Why would Bron want to play without a sidekick on the Knicks when he can play with D. Rose in Chitown?
Dana Jacobson (11:53 AM)
Well Drew I love me some hockey this time of year!!! But it's purely platonic
Tom (River North)
Why would LeBron go to the train wreck that is the Knicks? He seems pretty happy in Cleveland, and he's making a ton of money from Nike, Vitamin Water, etc.
Danny (Tonasket, Wa.)
Jay, Espn dropped hockey because of ratings, meaning not enough fans watch. I guess it is kind of a viscious circle. Need more fans to get the TV stations to show it, need more TV exposure to develope fans.
Adam G. Tampa, FL
Jay Joe Maddon's on the line he wants your bat in the 8 spot tonight you coming ? lol
Dana Jacobson (11:53 AM)
Danny, the NHL dropped us not the other way. They were offered more money elseewhere, it is a biz. ESPN didn't give the NHL what it wanted in a deal
Jon (Des Moines)
Is ESPN looking to get the NHL back after its contract with Versus runs out? I never thought I'd admit it, but hockey games have gotten much more exciting to watch after the new rules were implemented a few years back.
Jay Crawford (11:54 AM)
i'll hit 8, or pitch. either one!
Tom (River North)
ESPN dropped hockey because the NHL wanted more money, not because of ratings.
Peter (New York)
Why did Bob Glauber talk about Maurice Jones-Drew in the 2006 draft. He should have mentioned that he deserved to be picked ahead of Reggie Bush. C'mon Bob.
Dana Jacobson (11:54 AM)
Jon, don't quote me. This is just the "i think i heard" that yes we'd look into again. But money will be a factor again
Brett (Tampa)
Only way I see LBJ leaving is if they get at least two superstars to compliment him. Other than that. He's staying. Plus Cleveland can pay him more than anyone.
Jon (Des Moines)
We need Barry Melrose on ESPN 24/7!!!!
Brian (Dover)
I think peoplecan relate to b-ball, football, baseball better than hockey. its easier to play those as a kid.
Nick (CHICAGO)
espn and the nhl should mend that fence because its a shame
John (Austin)
Maybe all of the hockey geniuses shouldn't have had that lockout, maybe they should have thought of the consequences first instead of thinking about $$$$$...hmmmm
Nick (CHICAGO)
I'm a Bulls fan and i would have to say keep lebron, i wouldn't even want him on my team
Jay Crawford (11:55 AM)
ok nick, we will...see ya soon!
tyler (norwalk, ct)
lebrons a beast skip stop it next stop the ship stop hatin
Steve (NY)
skip is more full of himself than LeBron will ever be
Steve J Smiffe (St Louis)
Are there any hopes of the Rams making an impact this year? ps-Jemele is fine!!!
Jay Crawford (11:56 AM)
we hear that alot here steve
Travis (Richmond, Va)
Lebron saying he is his own favorite player is a joke. I cannot stand Lebron andd his 0 rings
Adam (Akron)
SKIP ... when in the past has LeBron NOT "backed it up" ... You're an Idiot ... Actions speak louder then words and LeBron is a PRIME EXAMPLE of that ...
Derek (Washington DC)
Lebron wanted out because he wanted to go somewhere that could win championships. Now that Cleveland can, I don't see him going anywhere for years. Kobe will leave the Lakers before Lebron leaves the Cavs
John (South Bend)
Who all here thinks the Los Angeles Lakers will win in the Finals? I do
Will (WV)
Lebron wins a ring...Skip must apologize for all his bashing!
Peter (New York)
Sorry meant to say why didn't Bob talk about Maurice Jones-Drew
Brett (Tampa)
Yeah right Nick.
chris (rochester, ny)
does skip have any ounce of athletic ability in his little body? his hate is ridiculous!
Matt (New Britain,CT)
but lebron isn't 7,grow up
Ken (Richmond)
Teflon LeBron is a much better nickname than King James.
Chris (Lakeland Florida)
Skip's 100% right (what am I saying?!)...if T.O. had said this it would have made 3rd down at WORST
Dana Jacobson (11:58 AM)
peter i missed the segment writing on the chat but may have just been focused on top 10 picks. was he?
Matt (New Britain,CT)
I like how everyone supports lebron,no matter what he says. He always gets a break.
Donny (Boston)
Does no one care about Gary Thorne?? He needs work too!!!
Craig(Buffalo,NY)
Dana, we are talking about LeBron's Top 5 and not hockey. GIVE ME A BREAK.
Nick (CHICAGO)
I like team players not player teams
Adam G. Tampa, FL
You throw 90? I clocked in at 91 top yesterday
jay crawford (12:01 PM)
nice adam. i threw 3 scoreless sunday...topped out at 87. it's early, and i'm late....raked at the plate though.
Brian (Dover)
Skip Bayless is a professional antagonist. He doesnt believe half of what he says. He is diong his job.
jay crawford (12:02 PM)
he believes at least 75 percent of it...lol
Derek (Iowa)
People idolize their favorite athletes as a child. Is Lebron idolizing himself? I agree with Skip, the world has gone mad!
Steve (Mastic, NY)
Pujols the machine! He will terminate you!!
Brandon (Colorado)
Lakers in 6 In the finals
Adam (Akron)
LeBron is ROYALTY ... Hence why he gets a pass ... The Life of LeBron James is UNPRECEDENTED ... How Dare Anyone speak on a life they couldn't even begin to Imagine ...
J.T. (CT)
skip is right lebron naming himself as his own idol would be like if Jay said he was his favorite journalist as a kid
Steve (Long Island, NY)
Haha.. I made them lol
jay crawford (12:02 PM)
good job steve. it was funny!
John (South Bend)
The Cavaliers need Lebron James to win games
Peter (New York)
No he went on and talked about players drafted later on like Leon Washington....I'm sorry but I gotta laugh at that. I think Washington is good but you can't mention Washington until after you mention Jones-Drew. He also talked about Colston and Finnegan
jay crawford (12:03 PM)
just 67 of them...without lebron thats still a 45 - 50 win team.
ian - hartford
lebron was asked by the reported about his supporting cast and he respond using the same "supporting cast"...so skip just hates lebron reguardless of whatever lebron does..he hates him
Dana Jacobson (12:03 PM)
Peter, not sure why he didn't mention MJD then! i'll send him an email and ask...surprising!!!
Chris (Columbia, Missouri)
Skip is absolutely correct about Lebron James. How full of yourself to do you have to be to say your your own favorite athlete? Maybe I am old school, but that is just something you do not do. Your a role model, like it or not, step up and show the characteristics of one. I love the guys who say I had great teammates after scoring 50 and having 15 boards. Be MODEST! That is endearing not talking about how amazing you played yourself!
Adam G. Tampa, FL
Put me in your league I'll move the money I'm making now isn't that great I'm 24 lol =* (
Jay Crawford (12:04 PM)
we ball up here adam. i played in 18 and ups in clearwater for 5 years. good ball, but we hold our own up here too. mostly nyc area teams, very good competition. what do you play???
Derek J (Wash DC)
Nice Steve. I think my comment was used by Dana after 1st down, about Dampier
Stacey (Spring valley Illinois)
What ever happened to professionalism? Lebron James is turning the NBA and all of sports into a joke! He is one of the best players in the NBA, but the showboating and the I am above everyone else needs to stop. Lebron until you win a championship be quiet!!!
Crash (ATL)
Imagine if Kobe said that Kobe was his favorite athlete. Kobe would get slammed for saying that!
John (South Bend)
They cannot win without him, but I do think they if he passed the ball to more teammates the Cavs would win more games
Dana Jacobson (12:05 PM)
whoever called jemele a hater - she says MJ is lucky the internet wasn't around when he was playing!
Jay Crawford (12:05 PM)
wait, his 7 assists a game aren't enough??? check mj's dish stats... im not saying he's better. but i am saying he passes more than michael did. its early for him...
Brad (Alliance, Ohio)
Skip is correct again. If beloved T.O. would have said what Prince James did then the media would have a field day. You can book it!
Brian (Dover)
jay I thought the pistons could win W/o Chauncy or AI. I was wrong. U are too.
Jay Crawford (12:06 PM)
wrong on what adam? the cavs winning 45 without lbj. the cavs sat lebron and all their starters against philly in the reg season finale and took them to ot. give them everyone but lebron and they would have won easily... its not a bad team now.
Cosmos (everywhere)
Earth to LeBron, the world doesn't rotate around your inflated head.
Chris (Columbia, Missouri)
Lebron also abuses the leagues loose traveling policy more than any other play....well since Pat Ewing use to jog across the lane
Will (New York, NY)
Lebron saying that he was in his own top 5 is a kid saying that he's a better athlete than anyone else outside of four people in the world. It's arrogant and absurd. If Lebron were to put himself in his top 5 NOW, no matter how gifted and skilled he is, it would still be amazingly self-centered.
Zach (Maine)
any one thinks LeBron is not full of him self is crazy! Skip Bayless needs get a real person to debate with because every one beside Steven A Smith is crazy.
Adam G. Tampa, FL
I play 3rd outfield can pitch everywhere except catcher Jay. I play Varsity baseball might try to get eligible here at UT. I completed 3 years there
Jay Crawford (12:07 PM)
what hs? any good? im pitch and 3rd or ss too. never catch!
Rc {Ky}
Jay do you think Brady Quinn will have a breakout season for the Browns this year?
Jay Crawford (12:08 PM)
hope so, but doubt it.
Jay Crawford (12:08 PM)
email adam
jesse (arvada colorado)
If you go back and look at half of LeBrons highlights over his career, he travels and he gets away with it. I wish he had to play the game like everyone else in the league
ian - hartford
even if LeBron wins a championship skipo will still be a hater
Nick (CHICAGO)
lebron james needs to just shut up and play basketball, simple as that
Lew *Chicago*
The world was cheated because the net wasn't around then. Even when Mike was winning titles he didn't get the coverage LeBron gets now.
Murphy (Denver)
Dana - who would you like to see the Detroit Lions Draft first Overall and sport those new Uniforms? also, predict the Michigan wolverines on this upcoming season do ya Beat hoyers Spartans and jays Buckeyes and do we get back in a Bowl game after going 33 straight yrs?
Jay Crawford (12:09 PM)
easy there murph....easy...
Lew *Chicago*
I love Jemele still but don't bring the "Greatest" in a comparison of LeBron it just ain't natural!!! lol
Mike (New Haven, CT)
Skip may be placing too much on Michael Jordan, but the point still stands. Any child who says he's one of his favorite five athletes - in fact, any PERSON who says that - is arrogant and self-absorbed. I don't care if you can allegedly back it up.
Danny (Tonasket, Wa.)
I'm not a huge LeBron fan but can't a young man make a tongue in cheek comment without everyone making a mountain out of a mole hill?
Murph (Sterling,VA)
Ray Allen looks alot like Mos Def! Anyway Ray Allen is one of the most clutch shooters in the NBA!
John (South Bend)
But the Los Angeles Lakers on the other hand can win games without Kobe Bryant, because they have Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum, Lamar Odom, Sasha Vuyacik, Jordan Farmar, Derek Fisher and some other great role players.
Steve (Phx, AZ)
Hey Jay and Dana just wanted to say hi before you guys wrap it up....have a fantastic day!
Jay Crawford (12:11 PM)
thanks steve! you too.
Mark NJ
Lebrons fav 5: Lebron James, Lebron James, Lebron James, Le...You get the point.
Malik (tucson, az)
Jay, I missed it. What did Lebron say that has everyone so fired up?
Jay Crawford (12:12 PM)
he said he was in his own fave 5 growing up...kidding im sure..skip pounced!
Greg - Greenville IL
Skip is the man. Lebron is so full of himself and Skip is right once again.
Chris, Columbia, Missouri
Why is traveling so prevelent in the NBA? Does the league tell the officials to allow it so they can get more offense. As a young coach (football and basketball) I like defense, not offense!
Lebron James (Cleveland)
I'll shut up about me when you all do.
Yankees Brass (NYC)
Adam, We'll sign you to a 7 year 324 million dollar contract.
Lew *Chicago*
Moderator step your game up!!!!
rob (NYC)
Who cares what Lebron does in Cleveland. He is a Knick in a year
Drew (Buffalo)
Marathon chat today?
Jay Crawford (12:13 PM)
we're done now... sorry guys! peace out! thanks for the chat..talk tomorrow!
Dana Jacobson (12:14 PM)
im sorry , when is it confidence and when is it being self absorbed?? cocky vs confident??
Craig(Buffalo,NY)
Drew, we are hockeytown not Jemele's hometown
Dana Jacobson (12:15 PM)
Ummm Craig...where does Lindy Ruff have the sabres right now? Ouch. sorry. Had to. Detroit, Hockey Town, USA
todd ca [via mobile]
when everyone keeps telling bron hes the best what do they expect...hes obviously gonna think thes the best and not be humble about it
Mike (New Haven, CT)
Dana, I might be too old school, but I think it's confident when you feel like you can do something and it's cocky when you go out and make that confidence public.
Dana Jacobson (12:18 PM)
Mike, I hear what you're saying but in todays media age - you'd better make your confidence public in some way or you're missing out on media love or sponsor love or something. There is a balance but when you've been told you're great from day one good luck keeping a balance. And he laughed at the end of the statement...can't he have fun? if kobe said it cool, if to said it cool. Would someone slam em, sure...not me. same way you can't group athletes, can't group the media.
Drew (Buffalo)
Shouldnt hockeytown sell out their home playoff games?
Dana Jacobson (12:20 PM)
drew, not when you have the highest unemployment rate in the country and some folks are probably saving up to go to later rounds. Just cause you aren't there in person doesn't mean you dont care. I don't think its a good sign...but come on you in buffalo as well as anyone know about the rough economy lately. It hurts all aspects. Do i think its good, no..but its still has the title
Morgan (LA, CA)
In regard to the "young" and inexperienced Bulls, I think there's something to be said for several of it's players having been in big games in college. Rose, Henrick, Noah, Gordon have all been in Final Four or Championship games in college. Does that translate to the pros in big game situations? Does the FInal Four or Championship game get ny bigger? So much for college basketball...right SKIP?
Dana Jacobson (12:21 PM)
Morgan, it's different...but it's better than nothing.
Malik (Tucson, AZ)
Would someone please explain what the heck is the big deal about twitter? Is it some new fancy way of chatting?
Dana Jacobson (12:23 PM)
Malik, twitter isn't so much a chat as it is a status update. You get an account. Anyone can follow you and get the status updates you list just as you can follow anyone. So you can follow us and read the show posts throughout the day. Hear behind the scenes stuff or see it.
Chris (Lakeland Florida)
I'd be interested in the ratings comparisons between playoff hockey and say the WSOP on ESPN. It has to be close...nobody watches hockey and no, I don't believe it's a chicken/egg deal where if it was on TV more people would watch. It more stems from fewer and fewer of the younger generation being brought up in the game.
Dana Jacobson (12:24 PM)
Chris WSOP, even reruns does great! Seriously you'd be shocked. People love that
Drew (Buffalo)
I'm not saying that Buffalo should be deemed hockeytown at all. Any random town in Canada cares more about the game of hockey than any place in America. But, if you're talking Hokceytown, USA then look no further than St. Paul, Minn. I've been to the Joe and many many other NHL games in other cities. Detroit was nice, people were good, but it's time to give up the hockeytown nickname
Dana Jacobson (12:26 PM)
Drew if we can keep winning the cup I'll give it up. And I'll agree there are a lot of great places to watch a game...haven't been to buffalo but i'm sure some of the most passionate fans out there. I was in pittsbugh last year for the finals and they were awesome to me, even in a red wings jersey
Mike (New Haven, CT)
Definitely makes sense to me, Dana. Especially if he laughed - the only report I read online made it sound like the writers weren't sure if he were joking or not. My apologies to Lebron if he was just playing around.
Dana Jacobson (12:27 PM)
Mike only he knows for sure. He chuckled. Maybe he said it knowing it would stir people up a bit, maybe he was dead serious...I don't know for certain. i guess either way i'm fine with it so doesn't matter as much to me.
Dana Jacobson (12:27 PM)
honestly, we talk about him waaaay to much for my taste.
Dana Jacobson (12:28 PM)
But like other stuff - you all respond, so you must like it!
Dana Jacobson (12:28 PM)
ok folks, anything else....oh someone asked about a salary cap spot where you could get info. I was unable to find one for you, sorry.
Erlinda (Michigan)
I was at the FULL Joe Louis Arena Sat. and it was the loudest I have ever heard it for a 1st round game. The town is so excited about our quest for a 2nd straight cup. We are and will always be Hockeytown. Dana you need to come home to a game and share in the excitement.
Dana Jacobson (12:30 PM)
Erlinda, I will do my best. Am hoping to see the wings get back to the final with the caps-bruins-rangers, any of the 3 so I can go to enemy territory!!
Drew (Buffalo)
Buffalo is alright, Pitt is ok too, It's funny how penguins fans are nice, polite, and respectful but steelers fans are horrible. You should come to a game in Buffalo, it's a fun time and a GREAT party afterwards, first beer is on me.
Dana Jacobson (12:31 PM)
Drew, too funny that you say that. This group of guys I met told me I should go to a steelers game, very different. I have found having been to every sport, sporting opposing team gear, as a woman, you sort of get a break. A few drunk guys will let at you and argue a bit. But overall not bad. One kid, yes kid at yankee stadium a couple years ago in the playoffs was on me start to finish - 2 days b/c of a rain ppd. But we won, so I got the last laugh. And I promise, I kept my mouth shut. Deal on Buffalo!
Dana Jacobson (12:32 PM)
Anyone else have anything else? We are waiting to shoot a new close so I have a few minutes. Otherwise will say goodbye till tomorrow.
Dana Jacobson (12:34 PM)
Thanks all!!! i'm hearing crickets.... talk to you tomorrow
