Tim Graham (11:59 AM)
Hello, everybody. We're chatting a little early this week because I'm headed out to Dolphins rookie camp in a couple hours. Let's get rolling ...
mz, boston
Tim -- Where have you been the past 2 weeks? I look forward to the chats to get me through hell (late Friday afternoon doldrums). And you come back to do a chat today when I'm on vacation -- what's up with that?
Tim Graham (12:00 PM)
Circumstances sometimes get in the way. Travel usually is the culprit, but last week I didn't have a reliable connection at my parents' home in rural Ohio. You might have seen my blog entries about Amish draft expert Eli Yoder. He's a neighbor. Not many cell towers in that area.
Stephanie, Omaha, NE
Hey Tim, I also think that Chad Henne is the future QB of the Dolphins. However, I think this year poses an interesting dilemma with Chad Pennington still on the roster: what to do on game day? I don't think White will beat out Henne, but I know they want him to be on the field in some capacity. I think deactivating Henne is unfair if he isn't beat out, as well as dangerous should Pennington go down. What do you think?
Tim Graham (12:02 PM)
Unless there's an injury, the depth chart is 1) Pennington, 2) Henne, 3) White as long as the team is doing OK. If the wheels come off, then I can see the Dolphins switching to Henne.
Dave Allston, MA
Is the Dominic Rhodes signing in Buffalo as big a setback to Fred Jackson's holdout plans as it seems to me?
Tim Graham (12:02 PM)
No. The Bills planned to bring in a third running back no matter what to help get them through Marshawn Lynch's suspension and for more flexibility.
Joe (Here)
Which AFC East team had the biggest steal in the draft?
Tim Graham (12:03 PM)
I like Shawn Nelson to the Bills in the fourth round.
Jake from Buffalo, NY
Tim -- Rumors aside, do you think that the Bills WILL give an honest effort to the no huddle offense?
Tim Graham (12:05 PM)
It's not a rumor. Unless they change their minds in the next four months (and that's possible if they get heavy into practices and decide it's not working) they will use it. I don't think they'll be an exclusive no-huddle attack, but if they stick with it, you'll see it for a chunk each game.
Jimbo, Brooklyn
Gut Feeling: Anquan in green and white?
Tim Graham (12:05 PM)
My gut feeling is that he remains a Cardinal.
Zack (NJ) [via mobile]
Hey tim, what do you see in thejets future in terms of suring up the WRs. Do you see tannenbaum persuing plaxico or boldin?
Tim Graham (12:07 PM)
Mike Tannenbaum is one of my favorite GMs in the league because he will pursue anything. The guy isn't afraid to pull the trigger. I'm sure he's pursuing both guys to some degree.
ras-mann portland oregon
you think the bills can slip into the playoffs and advance in their division
Tim Graham (12:09 PM)
No. I can't get over the fact they went 0-6 in the division last year. The other AFC East teams are better, too.
Robert (Latrobe, PA)
Any word on how negotiations with Vince Wilfork are coming? Was Ron Brace taken for depth, or is he considered a legitimate replacement in a year?
Tim Graham (12:10 PM)
Last we heard, Wilfork negotiations were going well. The Ron Brace pick is for the future and provides insurance in case the Pats don't re-sign Wilfork. That position is so critical to a 3-4 defense. Pats fans should be thrilled to know they have depth there.
Jerius Byrd.........
Remember my name..........
Tim Graham (12:11 PM)
Are you any relation to Jairus Byrd?
ras-mann portland oregon
what do you think of frisco pick of crabtree
Tim Graham (12:11 PM)
A hell of a lot better than Oakland's pick of Darius Heyward-Bey
Murph (Albany, NY)
Better end of the Peter's deal - Buffalo or Philly??
Tim Graham (12:13 PM)
I think it will be one of those deals you can debate. The Bills came away with Eric Wood and Shawn Nelson. They should have nice careers, but it will come down to how much you value a left tackle.
Joe (There)
Any of the division's undrafted free agent signing really catch your well-trained eye?
Tim Graham (12:13 PM)
There's a major flaw with your question.
Tim Graham (12:15 PM)
But the signee I'll be following most is J'Nathan Bullock, the Cleveland State basketball player the Jets brought in
Chris
Also, looking back, is this one of the more productive Bills offseasons to date? Adding Hangartner, TO, and Rhodes along with a solid draft, how much better have the Bills gotten?
Tim Graham (12:16 PM)
It's hard to remember a splashier offseason for them. But don't get too pumped up about the Rhodes signing. He should help, but he wasn't their first choice. They interviewed at least four other running backs before they got to him.
Steven - Rhode Island
Tim, do the Dolphins sign Jason Taylor or does he end up somewhere else? Please don't say the Patriot's!!!
Tim Graham (12:17 PM)
It's down to the Patriots and Dolphins with the Buccaneers lurking. My prediction is he ends up a Patriot in a couple weeks.
SprungOnSports (Long Island)
What do you make of the Jets draft overall, do you think trading all those assets for Shonn Greene was the right move considering they dealt three players and a pick for Sanchez?
Tim Graham (12:18 PM)
I'm not sure. I like their first two picks and can't fault them for dealing to get the guys they wanted. But coming away with only three players will impact their depth in years to come.
tom nj [via mobile]
True or false? This season Jets RB Danny Woodhead proves he can play in NFL at 5 ft. 7 and 200 lbs.
Tim Graham (12:19 PM)
True.
Brian (Orlando, FL)
Tim, I have compiled indisputable evidence that you hate the Buffalo Bills. In fact, Selena Roberts is writing a book about it. Care to comment?
Tim Graham (12:20 PM)
I'd like to see this indisputable evidence. So I can ... uh ... dispute it.
Joe (Everywhere)
Which AFC East team do you think made the biggest reach in the draft?
Tim Graham (12:21 PM)
The Dolphins with Patrick Turner in the third round.
Tim Graham: (ESPN):
Oh hey Im Tim Graham and I only like talking about football and not being fun and its all because I switched my chat to 12 instead of wasting time at the end of the day at 3!!!!
Tim Graham (12:21 PM)
Do I know you?
Jonathan (Orlando, FL)
Tim, your thoughts on Dolphin 3rd Round pick Patrick Turner, and is he the replacement for Ernest Wilford?
Tim Graham (12:22 PM)
In theory. Dolfans better pray he doesn't replace him in terms of production. What's zero plus zero?
Eric (Long Island, NY)
I've come to the conclusion that some of my fellow Bills fans will complain about you being too negative towards the Bills no matter what you write.
Tim Graham (12:24 PM)
Since I've joined ESPN.com, I have been accused of being a Patriots hater, a Jets hater, a Bills hater and a Dolphins hater ... A Patriots homer, a Jets homer, a Bills homer and a Dolphins homer.
Bill Cosby
Tim, what the heck! I went undrafted. Which AFC East team needs me the most right now?
Tim Graham (12:25 PM)
The Cosby Show episodes with Raven Simone were funnier than your segments on ESPN.
Mitchell (Orlando, FL)
Which AFC East game are you most looking forward to this season?
Tim Graham (12:26 PM)
The season opener between the Bills and Patriots on Monday night looks good. Brady's return, T.O.'s debut ...
Tom (Plano, TX)
What did you eat for lunch today? (Seeking recommendations. BTW that grilled KFC ain't bad.)
Tim Graham (12:26 PM)
I was going to ask for suggestions. I haven't eaten yet and will need to gnosh on my drive to the Dolphins facility.
John (Grand Island, NY)
Does Jairus Byrd project to FS or SS? And where does that live Whitner and Scott?
Tim Graham (12:27 PM)
Free safety, and if he plays then that means Whitner stays at strong safety.
Robert (Latrobe, PA)
Will the 2nd year guys and rookies make up for the loss of Ellis Hobbs?
Tim Graham (12:27 PM)
Keep in mind the Patriots also signed Leigh Bodden and Shawn Springs.
Ken, VI
Tim, you dont have a favorite team but what about favorite logos?
Tim Graham (12:28 PM)
I was bummed the Lions changed their logo. I thought it was classic, and blue on silver looks sharp. Tough to argue with the Cowboys.
Tim Graham (12:28 PM)
Of course, I could have gone with the Browns.
Dr. Pig, Mexico
Tim, I am tired of your slandering us pigs, we all know that you started the swine flu, stop ruining mexicos beloved economy!
Tim Graham (12:31 PM)
Totally off the wall, but true. Muhammad Ali was endorsing a line of ties put out by the CDC to raise money for research. The designs are of what various diseases look like under the microscope. Actually quite beautiful. I attended Ali's press conference in Las Vegas and was given a tie so I could write about it. I ended up with the swine flu. The guy next to me got AIDS. But not from me.
luke nh [via mobile]
The patriots are the best team infootball from the front office to the culture in the locker no questions just a fact
Tim Graham (12:31 PM)
Thanks for that. We were wondering.
Brett, the farm
Am I coming back for more?
Tim Graham (12:32 PM)
I'm suspicious. I think Favre at least wants to keep the option open.
Bernie, woodbridge NJ
Tim, Can Chansi Stuckey and David Clowney fill the need left by Coles , or is management blowin smoke like with the QB and panicing to get a WR?
Tim Graham (12:33 PM)
The Jets have gotten very adept at making public comments to sooth the players on their roster. But after what happened at quarterback, I take every word with a grain of salt.
tom nj [via mobile]
Arbies or Hardees. Always good. Pizza. Its like sex. Always good. Sometimes awesome.
Tim Graham (12:34 PM)
No Hardee's down here in Florida. But I do pass an Arby's.
Joe (Nowhere)
Which AFC East team gets the most production this year out of the guys just drafted? And is that a good thing or a bad thing?
Tim Graham (12:35 PM)
Probably the Bills, and I'm not sure that's a good thing. It suggests they drafted well, but it also means they have holes.
Burt, Toronto
Tim, if you could cover another division, which one would it?
Tim Graham (12:37 PM)
AFC North. I'm from Cleveland, and I'm jealous that James Walker can drive to three-quarters of his teams.
Brian (Orlando, FL)
Not true Tim - there are Hardee's down here in Florida. They are rare, but they do exist. Oh yeah, who is the odd man out in Buffalo's crowded receiving group?
Tim Graham (12:37 PM)
No kiddin'? I've never come across one.
Scott (Colorado Springs, CO)
Ok Tim, time to choose: Swine flu or Calculus?
Tim Graham (12:37 PM)
Swine flu. Twice.
Sean (Rochester, NY)
hey tim. i was just wondering if you've heard?... THAT BYRD IS THE WORD!
Tim Graham (12:38 PM)
Everybody loves their draft before the guys get on the field.
Drew (Buffalo)
Brickbreaker update?
Tim Graham (12:39 PM)
955,170 with 206 lives ... Problem is my rollerball is starting to go bad. I actually had 245 lives when I hit the 800,00 mark
Trent Edwards
With the weapons I have, Shouldn't I put up 30 a game?
Tim Graham (12:39 PM)
If you work on your jumper.
Nick (Rochester, NY)
what do you think Buffalo will do with Ko "Im worth millions" Simpson???
Tim Graham (12:40 PM)
I don't think he's worth millions anymore. He'll need to change his motto to "I'm worth the league minimum with the St. Louis Rams!"
Mark (Chicago)
Bulls or Celtics?
Tim Graham (12:41 PM)
What a series. I'm not an NBA fan, but I've been watching that. Incredible. I like the way the Bulls are carrying themselves.
Ko Simpson
Yall don't know me! I'm Ko Simpson of the Buffalo Bills! I'm worth Millions.. (officers chuckling)
Matt (Buffalo)
Hockey question for you: Whenever sportscasters debate who the best goalie of all time is Hasek is either barely mentioned or forgetton about. Is there a media conspiracy against him since he attacked one of your own (Jim Kelley)? Should Broduer be out of the conversation after that soft goal he gave up in Game 7?
Tim Graham (12:43 PM)
Hasek isn't mentioned because he had to force his way onto a contender that probably would have won without him. Roy, Bordeur and Sawchuk carried their teams to many, many titles.
Ryan (Madison, WI)
I was glad to see John Beck got released by the Dolphins. Any word on where he might end up?
Tim Graham (12:44 PM)
No word. The Ravens were the first team that popped into my head because Cam Cameron is the coordinator. But he's shot confidence-wise. Beck will be a reclamation project for a team willing to put in the time and effort.
J.P. Losman (Gutter)
Hey dude, like, have you heard about a team interested in me? I'm like, good and wanna win and stuff
Tim Graham (12:46 PM)
Not a lot of Losman chatter going on in front offices around the league. He might need to wait until some injuries happen.
J.P. Losman
Am I better than John Beck? And shouldn't I have at least tried to care last year?
Tim Graham (12:47 PM)
You are much better than John Beck.
Mikey(Lackawanna,NY)
Do you expect the Bills 2nd rd pick Andy Levitre to start this season for the Bills?
Tim Graham (12:48 PM)
You would expect a second-round guard to start.
Ed Hochuli (Chat Ref)
That's a personal foul against J.P. Losman for thinking he's going to get a job in the NFL as anything other than a waterboy, 15 yards and repeat 3rd down.
Scott (Colorado Springs, CO)
Ok, noob question here. Is brickbreaker a game you buy or can you get it on the internet somewhere? I did a quick search and got flash games that don't look like you can save them. Thanks.
Tim Graham (12:48 PM)
It's a BlackBerry game
Marshawn Lynch
Tim, if anyone asks, I was with you the whole afternoon!
Tim Graham (12:49 PM)
All right ... but I already told some people I was with Mookie that day.
rerun (su)
are you disppointed when mr. irrelevant is a kicker? should be a rule against that.
Tim Graham (12:49 PM)
That was a disappointment.
Andy (Buffalo, NY)
What are the odds on Jackson getting a multi-year deal before the season starts? Also, he's not holding out he showed up for work just like TO eventually did. Also: I recommend Arby's over Hardees
Tim Graham (12:51 PM)
Jackson isn't holding out because he doesn't have a contract. If he hadn't shown up at voluntary workouts he still wouldn't be holding out. ... That said, I do think he signs a multi-year deal before the season starts. If not, he'll be one unhappy fella.
BILLS FANS
TRUE OR FALSE: THE BILLS DEMETRIUS BELL WILL BE STARTING EITHER AT LT OR RT FOR THE BUFFALO BILLS THIS SEASON?
Tim Graham (12:52 PM)
If there's an injury, true.
Ricky (Daytona, FL)
Ummm go to the Ale House in Daytona, get some wings they're the closest we have to good Buffalo Wings. Do the Bills RBs get monster yards this year?
Tim Graham (12:53 PM)
Let's see ... I can be there and back in about 8 hours.
Ryan (funky town, texas)
Is this a buffalo only chat? I thought they were extinct in the afc east(0-6)
Tim Graham (12:54 PM)
I'm sorting through the questions for the other three teams. But the Bills fans come strong every week.
Joe(Buffalo)
The Bills 2009 record will be______? I say 7-9
Tim Graham (12:55 PM)
Ralph brought Jauron back for consistency.
Movie guy
Better football movie: The Longest Yard or The Program?
Tim Graham (12:56 PM)
The original Longest Yard.
Scott (Colorado Springs, CO)
Go to Chik-fil-a, they rock.
Tim Graham (12:56 PM)
Big fan.
Ed Hoculi (ref)
Unsportsmanlike Conduct on Ryan-whining instead of asking questions. 15 yards and repeat 2nd down.
Vinny ( the bookie)
Mangini vs Leach. Who would you put your money on?
Tim Graham (12:57 PM)
What's the competition? Hot dogs or pie?
Tim Graham (12:58 PM)
Couple more questions and I have to bolt.
Eric Wood (Louisville)
How much weight do you think my resemblance to the Bad Santa kid carried for the Bills in taking me in the first round?
Tim Graham (12:59 PM)
I've been around athletes enough not to be stunned by much, but this dude had monstrously large hands.
Christian (dc)
How do you think the dolphin's turner pick will turn out? I know they like his size, but what else did they see in him?
Tim Graham (1:00 PM)
I hope to get a first-hand look today at rookie camp, which starts at 2 p.m. He's the big wild card in this draft.
ted ginn (nowhere)
list the afc east's best recieving corps, i say pats, bills, fins, jets
Tim Graham (1:01 PM)
If we're counting all four or five guys and not just the stars, I go Bills, Patriots, Dolphins, Jets.
Ed Hochuli (Chat Ref)
That's illegal procedure against Tim Graham for posting an imposter Ed who doesn't spell my last name correctly. 5 yard penalty and it remains first down.
Tim Graham (1:01 PM)
I was duped.
Mason Elbert
Tim, why does everyone say henne is the quarterback of miami's future? i would much rather have them sign pennington to his death bed. I mean look at what he did for us last year? the guy is incredible! your thoughts?
Tim Graham (1:03 PM)
It's all about maximizing assets. Teams that know when to part ways with aging veterans and effectively replace them are teams that give themselves the best chance at success. They don't get tied down by dead money.
Tim Graham (1:04 PM)
Thanks to everybody for stopping by. Hope to see you next Friday at the regular time, 3 p.m.
