here we go again.....sound off folks, should the Vikings be interested in Favre? Interested to hear what the states of Wisconsin and Minnesota have to say about these developments...
Kacey (Northglenn, CO)
How about those Denver Nuggets give us some love.
Felipe, Bakersfield CA [via mobile]
Hey Skip why do you hate on Lebron so much? You have got to admit that he is a man on a mission and he's having fun with it. Isn't that what playing the game is all about?!?
Dana Jacobson (9:43 AM)
morning folks! can you believe the favre talk is back?? wow.
Bruce Temple Tx
Dana,i am so glad i had to watch the end of the red wing game at work on the computer (i am sure my wife is too)Did the refs blow it, like i have been reading?
Dana Jacobson (9:44 AM)
Bruce, I think they did. BUT i'm definitely not a hockey rules expert. STILL matthew barnaby is saying as much as well. Really too bad too can you imagine another ot game? But if this team could bounce back after a triple OT loss in the finals last year at home, a road loss, no problem.
Joe (Columbus, OH)
Brett Favre needs to stay home, I have lost so much respect for the man in the past few years because of his inability to stick to a decision. If you love the game so much, stay away from it! You are ruining it!
Dana Jacobson (9:45 AM)
Joe, I'm with you. If you don't know if you're done, stop freaking retiring. Tell the team and all of us in the media, i don't know! unreal.
Katie: Fremont, Ohio
I just wondered if Skip actually believes everything he says or if he is just paid to disagree with everyone? He is an extremely opinionated man! And by the way, despite what Skip may believe, the best candidate won the NBA's MVP!
Blaze Hardage Weatherford, texas
I'm not a big mavs fan but I love basketball. Watching game 2 when 4th quarter started, I thought there was no way Denver could stop Dirk. Then, over the first 4 minutes, i watched Dirk get 2, I mean 2 touches when Denver made their run. So, my question is when every nuggets run happened when the offense didn't go through Dirk, why would they not run the offense through Dirk EVERY time up the floor, until Denver is forced to double team him, because if they don't, Dirk could score 50 or more. They have yet to stop him. It's the mavs who let Terry or somebody else force their game, effectively taking Dirk out of it. Why?
Dana Jacobson (9:45 AM)
Katie he believes it. That may make him crazy sometimes but he is passionate
Moderator (9:46 AM)
lot of x's and o's there Blaze...
Lynden Burton New Iberia Louisiana
Skip can you call Lebron James King James now?
Dana Jacobson (9:46 AM)
Lynden, skip said yesterday he needs to win a title b/f he can be coronated. MVP not enough. BUT folks he did give him credit for winning the MVP. I was right next to him when he said it..on air
victor monroe,la
dava i think it will be the celtics and cavaliers in the east finals, and houston vs a team to be determined.
Dana Jacobson (9:47 AM)
victor not a lot of you out ther when it comes to no lakers in the finals...
Dave Brown Cleveland Ohio
What does skipp have to say about LBJ now? Go cavs !!!!!!!!!!!!
Will (WV)
Week 8...Vickings at Packers! Who do you go for?
Dana Jacobson (9:49 AM)
will come on. its a total guss. if favre is back no noe knows how he'll be throwing, gotta see what's left. we'll have an update at the top of the show about his injury and how healing on its own is the best course of action. once we know if he's back we'll find out if he can throw and maybe then we can pick a winner for week what was it 8!! besides they meet in minnesota week 4
Will (WV)
Just for the record people....I am not hating on hockey today!
Dana Jacobson (9:50 AM)
thanks for clearing that up will
Scott (Colorado Springs)
I think Brett Farve should play for every team before he retires!
Dana Jacobson (9:50 AM)
scott it's like a stadium tour...a favre's finale tour but instead of visiting each stadium b/f he leaves he just plays for each team. interesting thought....he might go for it
Scott (Colorado Springs)
Second... Way to go Nuggets. Dana, I really want you guys to interview the Bird Man. He was killing them last night.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
If Favre unretires again to play for the Vikes, is he then the 'Boy who cried Wilf?' Just asking.
Dana Jacobson (9:51 AM)
Johnny, awful. Just awful. I'm not responsible for any comments that may come your way
Devin Langston Oklahoma
Too be the MVP don't have to beat the MCVP from the year before once! On that alone King James shouldnt of never got the MVP Kobe and the Lakers took out to winning streaks in the month of December Boston's 22 in a row and caves home winning streak all in the matter of a week sounds like Kobe is still the best player to me
Dana Jacobson (9:52 AM)
Devin, i dont' share your reasoning about beating last year's mvp. No. I don't think you have to. It's a team game, mvp is an individual award. I think this was lebron's year
Umor (detroit MI)
Favre comming back. Maybe Madden unretires too.
Will (WV)
WITH THE FIRST PICK IN THE 2010 NFL DRAFT, THE DETROIT LIONS SELECT...BRET FAVRE OUT OF RETIREMENT!
Tyler
I used to like Brett Favre, but now that he retires and then comes back to a different team every year. All he is doing is turning the NFL into a soap opera based around him.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Oh sure don't post my good stuff but throw me to the wolves when I send in something bad.
Dana Jacobson (9:54 AM)
Johnny, had you sent good stuff this morning? Ouch. Sorry, it was right over the plate
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Dana: I hate the Wings (Pens fan) but your guys got robbed yesterday. I think NHL officials are too quick to stop play. It was within the rules to disallow the goal but a complete mistake by the striped shirts. Is there any wonder why they get booed as soon as they hit the ice in pregame?
Dana Jacobson (9:54 AM)
I agree whole heartedly. wat to quick on the whistle...especially in the playoffs. barnaby's on later in hour 2 to talk about it and pens-caps
Umor (detroit MI)
Good one Will (WV)
Barry: (High Point, NC)
Thoughts on the Wings-Ducks non-goal? I was watching the game, and when they showed the replay with the audio where you could hear the whistle, the whistle clearly blows AFTER the puck has crossed the goal line.
Dana Jacobson (9:56 AM)
Barry, they were robbed in my mind. I don't think it will kill this team though. Too much experience in dealing wtih stuff like this...i said it earlier, losing in 3ot on home ice to the pens last year then coming back to win at pitt.
Tristan Pierce (Palm Bay, FL)
is jay wearing his LBJ mvp shirt today? lol
Dana Jacobson (9:56 AM)
Tristan, of course
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
What would a Tigers fan know about taking advantage of one right over the plate? There, I think we are even.
Dana Jacobson (9:57 AM)
If you say so Johnny.
MJ (Ogdensburg, NJ)
If Lebron ever gets a sidekick like jordan with pippen, kobe with shaq, jabaar with oscar and then magic; that team will be the greatest team of all time.
Dana Jacobson (9:57 AM)
MJ isn't that what mo is supposed to be?
Adam G. (Piscataway, NJ)
JAY!!
Tyler (Illinois)
Hey Dana, skip was right on when he said that the cavs would come out rusty on offense, which they did, but when your defense is that good (Hawks 72 points) who needs a fluent offense.
MJ (Ogdensburg, NJ)
Mo is a good player but hes not a great sidekick... he's more like one of King James' henchmen.
Tony (Lawrence, KS)
Please let us stop the Favre talk
Joshua (Somerset, Ky)
Reds pitching has been stellar so far this season. why is no one give a team that has had 6 total shutouts with 4 in the last 6 games any love at all. It's so sad to have the team with the #1 Team ERA and no one wants to talk about it.
Moderator (10:03 AM)
Skip picked 'em to win their division Joshua...took a lot of heat for it..
Kerry (Cleveland, O)
COME ON... STEROIDS AND FAVRE should be banned from ESPN. ENOUGH ALREADY
Frosty Smokes (Sarasota)
Red Wings got robbed
Kerry (Cleveland, O)
PLEASE STOP THE FAVRE STUFF, No one CARES ANYMORE, even PACKER FANS don't care...
Pete, NJ
Brett Favre has earned the right to play for as long as he wants. He is a living legend that deserves the respect he is not receiving from the American Public. Favre can take this Viking team to the Super Bowl if his shoulder and bicep has healed.
Tony (Lawrence, KS)
Was Rosenfels a bad quarterback in the long run for the Vikes?
Jay Crawford (10:08 AM)
hey room! hope everyone is well! let's chat!
joe lowcash mi [via mobile]
jay my windsheild wiper on my jimmy used to scrap my winsheild until i found my duct tape quick fix no more scraping
Jay Crawford (10:08 AM)
see joe! a million uses!
sean from hawaii
hey there guys...bring back Stephen A. please. when its skip and stephen the show is the best. well skip i was just wondering if whats going on right now do u think the denver nuggets can win it all???
Matt(New Britain,CT)
come on people, favre is the best qb of our generation, you've had unitas, namath, montana and favre. He has deserved every right to do this
Will (WV)
So what did Skip have for breakfast this morning?
Jay Crawford (10:09 AM)
protein shake and a bagel... now hes ready for rob parker for desert. he doesnt recommend the bagel, but you ran for an hour...
Tyler (Illinois)
Whats Favre trying to prove? He has broken records and will be a hall of famer. He just needs to get his clubs and join a country club.
Aaron (Denver)
I love when "fans" call for a player to retire, yet we all play in terrible recreational leagues b/c we enjoy playing. There is nothing wrong an athlete simply wanting to play a game at the highest level for as long as a given league will have them.
Kerry (Cleveland, O)
Pete, He is the one who is losing respect by being so wishy washy. His ego won't let go.
R Mom (Spring Valley, NY)
Wow!! Talk about great info. Stephania Bell proving her worth!
Nic (Lawrence, KS)
Viva Los Royals!!!! Great win for the Royals last night in extra innings. Hope that people don't sleep on my Royals making a post season run.
Matt(New Britain,CT)
a journeyman qb is the answer? good luck with that franchise skip
Tony (Lawrence, KS)
Nic, us Royals fans keep cautiously optimistic and enjoy the new stadium digs while we are at it.
Ben ( Desoto, Tx
When are you all going to start treating Brett Favre like the Chad Johnsons and the selfish players in the league. People talk like Brett is still an elite Player. He has not won anything in 10 years.
mark (manhattan,ks)
Why in the world is everyone stuck in this Favre fantasy? How many times has a 40 yr old made an impact in the NFL?
Aaron (Denver)
Is there anyone alive who takes Sage Rosenfeld over Brett Farve for a year?...Rosenfeld's mother does not count.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Favre can say he wants to play but a team needs to be interested for him to fulfill that desire. We can't blame Brett for returning if someone wants to sign him.
Wally (Minnesota)
Trying to prove he can bring a championship to Minnesota. Only places harder are Buffalo and Detroit.
Tony (Lawrence, KS)
Yes Skip! Preach it! No more Favre.
Chizzie Thornton, Co
Two tickets to a Nuggets playoff game $200 Drinks, hot dog, and pretzel $30 Seeing Mark Cuban's face after his team got blownout by Denver- Priceless
Calvin W (Clearwater, FL)
If the Vikings are that desperate at QB, why didn't they trade for Cutler or move up in the draft to get a QB. The Vikings may want Brett Favre but they are not desperate for him.
Minard (Ogdensburg, NJ)
I think Tavaris Jackson showed good signs at the end of last year and would be fine for this team built on speed and running the football...
Adam G. (Tampa, FL)
Brett come to Tampa Bay! We just signed Kellen Winslow and Antonio Bryant is a beast!
Sevetra Ft Worth Tx
The MVP was announced Monday how is it Nike already has a T-shirt & shoe for the THE KING...was it a marketing push or a commercial last night Ive lost respect for the NBA...LUV U SKIP KEEP TELLING THE TRUTH WE LUV U IN TEXAS
WIll (WV)
Brett to Tampa...? They have 13 qbs there!
Kerry (Cleveland, O)
Adam, You realize both those guys are Browns Retreads, right? Winslow will be great for a year or two but he is a disruption.
Tom (River North)
You've lost respect based on the fact that Nike had commercials and clothing ready for the announcement? Are you kidding? Does the fact that they have t-shirts and hats made for both teams in a championship series upset you too?
Will (WV)
My two year old just fell asleep watching Rob and Skip argue over Favre's return....THANKS BOYS!
Joshua (Somerset, KY)
I knew Skip had a good head on his shoulders. I'm a big fan of his anyways. Loved the Woody Vs Skip debates.
Aaron (Denver)
Nene is still the story of this series for the Nuggets.
Wally (Minneapolis, MN)
He hasn't played a game in purple yet
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Hey Jay's back. Jay please tell Dana to stop picking on me. Oh and, "GO DUCKS!"
Jonathan (Atlanta, GA)
Rob, when your a Super Bowl champ and league MVP, you get those passes. When T.O. gets those achievements then he can act like that. Also, I don't remember a whole bunch of folks (and you) questioning Jordan when he decided to retire, then come back then retire again. Don't be a hypocrite, Rob.
Jay Crawford (10:23 AM)
i'll try johnny. is there a reason for the ribbing?
Kerry (Cleveland, O)
Will, Thanks for the levity!!!
joe locash [via mobile]
would duct tape work to shut bretts mouth
Dana Jacobson (10:24 AM)
nice joe...not sure
James (Norman, Ok.)
Everyone is saying Favre is old and would break down during the season if he came back because that is what he did last season, but with the Vikings he would not be the vocal point like he was with the Jets, Adrian Peterson and the Defense would carry the team and take pressure off of Brett, helping him stay fresh.
Sean (South Bend)
All I have to say is if Michael Jordan can retire three times and come back twice then why cant Brett Farve?
Dana Jacobson (10:25 AM)
in fairness this is more on minnesota for approaching him. but why not jsut say no!
Koop (Atlanta)
Oh no not the drama queen again. I'm so tired of Favre.
Jonathan (Atlanta, GA)
Jay, Skip is on point. The media (i.e., you and the rest of the folks at ESPN) makes more of this than it should be. Your poll is very telling. If the folks in MN believe that he should be there man, then that's all that matters (who cares what someone in CA or here in GA thinks the Vikings should do; their not buying any Vikings tickets!)
Dana Jacobson (10:25 AM)
Jonathan, fans everywhere have an opinion and there are vikings fans everywhere
Chris, DC
IF Brett Favre wants to play he should play. Who is us to say he has to retire. He still better if, not the same then most quaterbacks in the league. This is American no matter how many times he has retired , he should be allowed to play.
Tristan Pierce (Palm Bay, FL)
skip is fired up.. but I think Rob has a point (except maybe he should have left the race part out of it) if Bret Farve went out and played the last few years retirement free no one would say anything but the flip flopping is old
Dana Jacobson (10:26 AM)
Chris I agree with the premise no one should tell someone when to retire. BUT why does he keep saying he's retiring and then coming back. Don't announce your retirement.
Ron (Miami, FL)
What does it take to get a comment posted here??? Is this a closed session only open to the same people???
Dana Jacobson (10:27 AM)
ron, keep em coming. i left at 37 posts came back from a couple segments at 350ish. i'm going back to try to get to some. jay may have missed em too b/c we were both in segments
Tyler Koenig Toronto South Dakota
Once again skip is the only one that knows what he is talking about. I want to know if Jordan is in the same boat as Brett because didn?t he retire from the bulls twice and Washington once.
heath (bham alabama)
skip is right there are aloy of people that love to see brett play. and he has earned the right to come back as many times as he wants. if he goes to the super bowl, lets see how many people want to love him again
Calvin W (Clearwater, FL)
I am so sick of people saying Favre should go to the Vikings because he can throw to Percy Harvin now. Even if you assume he was a good draft pick, you cannot assume he will be a factor in year one whoever the QB is.
Scott (Colorado Springs)
Hey Dana, the stadium tour is pretty funny. I think he might be looking for a place to coach/own when he finally retires again. He is looking for the stadium that has a big box suite for him.
Dana Jacobson (10:31 AM)
scott i'd take favre coaching!
Ron (Miami, FL)
Hey Dana, do you think Favre is coming back? I thought he needed that bicep surgery, which he didn't have.
Moderator (10:32 AM)
plays of the week gang...vote on a scale of 1-10...all defense this week... 1-Dwight Howard swatting Ray Allen 2-Caps' Simeon Varlamov save off of Sidney Crosby 3-DBacks triple play vs. Dodgers
mark(manhattan ks)
Last year Brett played against the up-start Dolphins, the Brady-less Pats, and the Bad Bills. If he couldn't make the playoffs last year then he definately isn't winning a championship with the vikings....sorry yall
Ryan C. (San Diego, CA)
Save vs. Sidney! Easy!!!! Ask Melrose he'll explain how sweet that was.
Dana Jacobson (10:33 AM)
Ron, we just had stephania bell on about this. SHe says its common with that injury to not have surgery and let it heal on its own. if he does want the surgery there are options that would only require about 6 weeks rehab so there definitely is time. dont think the bicep will be an issue
Moderator (10:33 AM)
give it a number - 1-10 Ryan
Matthew (taylor MI
Jay ask rob if he remember that guy from chicago that did what brett is doing think his name is micheal jordan
Tom (River North)
Howard block 2 out of 10 because it was a routine block for him. Triple play 6 out of 10 since it wasn't a very difficult one. Varlamov save 10 out of 10 because it was the difference in the game and it was on the NHL's golden boy which makes it even better.
Aaron (Denver)
The save by Varlamove is ridiculous and the play of the week...although I love Howard's off hand protecting his head from the back board.
Moderator (10:34 AM)
give it a rating Aaron
Tom (River North)
Hey Moderator, since when do the Coyotes play baseball? They barely play hockey...
Moderator (10:34 AM)
Error on the Moderator...I got the bankrupt Coyotes on the brain...triple play by the D-backs
Heyward (Ormond Beach, Fl)
I get so tired of hearing about Favre. Especially right now when there are athletes worth talking about like Lebron, Kobe, Ovechkin, Crosby, etc. Lets talk about people who are doing something right now and not about people still dreaming of doing something
Amani Dallas Tx
Rob Is right if this was a player that people did not like or agree with he would be getting killed by the media
Will (WV)
Howard 7 Varlamov - 9 D-backs - 4
Tristan Pierce (Palm Bay, FL)
dwight 10 didnt watch others
Jonathan (Statesboro Georgia
Varlamove save is a 10 out of 10. that was ridiculous
Jay Crawford (10:37 AM)
there does seem to be a bit of a double standard.
Kerry (Cleveland, O)
Tom, they won't be playing Hockey in Phoenix anymore, think that janet lost the team in Vegas.
Will (Tampa)
Move the Coyotes to Canada, then get rid of about 10 teams and the NHL might have a chance to be relevant again someday.
Phil(Newport News, Va)
Rob compares Favre to T.O., but for 17 seasons Favre was considered the ultimate team player. T.O. has been a distraction his entire career.
Jay Crawford (10:38 AM)
good point phil. lately though some of his decisions seem to fly in the face of a team concept.
Moderator (10:38 AM)
Irony is, Gretzy started hockey's migration to the sun belt when he went to the Kings, now his Coyotes might be the first of many sun belt teams to head back north
vinnie (cleveland OH)
oh here we go again!! another whole summer of talking about Brett. Cant we at least wait until the NBA playoffs are over and there is nothing else to talk about.
Tony (Lawrence, KS)
How about the Cyotes move to KC. The Sprint center offers free rent. That would be tempting to a team with no cash.
Calvin W (Clearwater, FL)
Dana, why mention that the Vikings don't play the Jets. No reason for Favre to be mad at the Jets, and the Jets' fans might be disappointed how the season ended but it doesn't sound like they hold any bad feelings.
Jay Crawford (10:39 AM)
would hockey fly there tony?
gus- berlin, ct
jay said that mn wants Brett? why would the rival team want him affter all the years of cheering agenst him? i know as a dolphins fan, i was unsure about chad coming over from the jets.
Dana Jacobson (10:39 AM)
Calvin, I mentioned it b/c let's say sanchez starts and is struggling and favre is kicking butt...could have been interesting. still a former team, bad feelings dont have to be a part
Tyler (Illinois)
Hey Dana, skip was right on when he said that the cavs would come out rusty on offense, which they did, but when your defense is that good (Hawks 72 points) who needs a fluent offense.
Dana Jacobson (10:39 AM)
and now the rust is gone tyler, watch out
Brandon Sioux Falls South Dakota
Skip, how is Gus Frerotte going to be starting for the Vikes, we released him the day we got Sage!
Pete, NJ
If Green Bay never snubbed Brett out of the starting spot after he led them to the NFC Championship game then he would still be quarterback for the Packers. So is this really his fault?
Jay Crawford (10:40 AM)
he was saying he was the answer and couldnt figure out why they didnt see it.
Will (WV)
The staff at my local post office act faster and make dicisions quiker than Brett Favre!
Jay Crawford (10:40 AM)
funny will!
Dana Jacobson (10:40 AM)
pete, i just wish he'd never retired when he wasn't sure. and if he knew so soon after that he wasn't done, had been more vocal. first he really made his intentions known outside the team was july last year...supposedly he had an idea in late march. he could have forced the packers hand had he wanted to back then
Deanna Favre
Will you guys calm down? I just want Brett out of the house! Surely you married guys out there can relate...
Dana Jacobson (10:41 AM)
nice deanna!
Felipe (CA) [via mobile]
I love Brett Favre almost as much as Madden does, and im a Dallas fan, but enough is enough. Also i think that in both game 1's we saw who wants its more. Lebron got it done and never let up. Can't say the same about the L.A. Kobe's
Edwin (Turks & Caicos0
Wow bret to the vikings i hope not and if i was the vikings i wouldn't even go after him last season with his injurey i felt he didn't seem as motivated at the end of the season and i think the vikings should stick with people who wants to play instead someone who is has been up and down the last two seasons
Patrick (Brooklyn, NY)
Cavs scored 49 pts in the 1st Half and 50 pts in the 2nd Half...why is Skip even talking about offense? The Cavs gave up 44 pts in the 1st Half and 28 pts in the 2nd Half. Hm. Perhaps an improvement on defense explains the blowout better than any change in Lebron's offense? This is just silly.
Dana Jacobson (10:41 AM)
Edwin not so sure it was motivation just injury....but not sure how much is left in the tank.
Tom (River North)
Dana, how did you feel about the Wings getting Ed Hochuli'd last night with that early whistle with about a minute left? It may not have cost them the game, but it cost them the chance in OT.
J-Mac N.Kingstown R.I.
The Sid the kid save was off the hook, everyone thought that was in..." No soup for you"... A 10 for sure...
Dana Jacobson (10:42 AM)
Tom, ridiculous. I think they'll buonce back though
Joshua (Somerset, Ky)
Dwight Howard. not Swight Howard. 2 Save 9 D-backs triple play 3
Jake (Syracuse)
Will the Jets get anything from the Vikings if Favre comes back? Will the NFL give any compensatory picks?
Dana Jacobson (10:42 AM)
Jake, no. With his release they get nothing
Moderator (10:42 AM)
went back and fixed that too, Joshua...I'm killin' ya today
mark (manhattan ks)
Hey Jay. tell Skip rob is right! If this where ANY other player in the NFL we would be talking about how selfish the guy is. NO MORE FREE PASSES FOR FAVRE!!!
Jason(Ocean City,MD)
Rob can I play a game of checkers on your tie?
Aaron (Denver)
Will, great idea...
Dana Jacobson (10:43 AM)
Jake also if i understand it correctly they would have had to lose him in free agency also for compensatory picks. its not a mere roster issue.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
C'mon now Dana. You know you're one of my favorites. Let's bury the hatchet here.
Dana Jacobson (10:43 AM)
johnny the hatchet was never out
Jemeal (Jacksonville, Fl)
Let me get this straight. According to Skip, Jay Cutler has accomplished more in his career than T.O and Ocho Cinco.?
Kyle (Philadelphia , PA)
I'm sorry Boston fans but without the Big Ticket (Kevin Garnet) I have to say my Orlando Magics are going 2 win this series in 5 games!!!!!!!
Ruedi (St. Louis)
Do we question Kurt Warner's decision to stay in the league? Last time I checked he was old too.
Jemeal (Jacksonville, Fl)
Skip has anointed Jay Cutler as an established QB after one pro bowl season, but claims that T.O. and Ocho Cinco haven't accomplished anything in their careers. The bias and lack of objectivity is overwhelming.
Jake
Man Favre is so overrated. He benefits from two things: the media who loves him so much and being the QB of the Packers (a storied franchise). He's allowed to make mistake after mistake after mistake but if he makes one good play he's a gunslinger? He couldn't win a Super Bowl until Reggie White came to town. If this was any other QB the media would just say that he's average.
Dana Jacobson (10:44 AM)
Ruedi I think again, the big issue people have with it is the retirement unretirement retirement unretirement. hated it when jordan did it too. one i can understand sort of...two come on
Tim (Brighton, MA
oh just great! same as last year! How long do we (the public) have to boycott the ESPN networks to avoid having to be nauseated by that selfish, egotistical Brett Favre?
leonard (chicago)
i think the reason brett is really mad is because he knew he had a chance to win another super bowl with g.b but they snubbed him
Justin (DC)
1-Dwight Howard swatting Ray Allen - 7 2-Caps' Simeon Varlamov save off of Sidney Crosby - 10 3-DBacks triple play vs. Dodgers - 7 honestly how can you argue against the greatest save up till now and probably the best one that we'll see in the playoffs
provick
were are my cubbies at? no1 is talking about them now they are off
Erik (St. Petersburg, FL)
How does Lebron get blamed for not having assists? He can pass the ball all day long but if guys don't knock down shots, he won't get assists
Chizzie Thornton, Co
HEY! where's Micheal Kim at this fine morning?
Dana Jacobson (10:46 AM)
Chizzie michaels off today he'll be back tomorrow
Tony (Lawrence, KS)
Howard block-3 Varlamov-9 Triple play-3
Josh (Pittsburgh, PA)
From a Pens fan it pains me to say this, but the Varlamov save was play of the week and play of the NHL postseason. It completely changed the game and was an incredible display of athleticism. There is NO way he should have gotten his stick in front of the puck. Sid had an open net!
Nic (Lawrence, KS)
The Caps save was amazing to me, i'll give it a 8.5
Kerry (Cleveland, O)
It has to be Varlamov. Notice his goalie helmet is half Caps, Half Hershey Bears. The guy only has 6 regular season games under his belt, Just turned 21 and is 6-2 in the playoffs.
Ed (Morristown,Tn)
1 Dwight's block was just AWESOME!!
R Mom (Spring Valley, NY)
Varlamov: 10. Doesn't get much better than that. Dwight Howard: 8.5. He defensively posterized Ray Allen. Triple play: 7.5. Rarely see it but that looked rather routine. If he made a great initial play it would be better but it was a line drive right at him...Enh!
Rinde (Cleveland)
Skip is just crazy hater. Cavs were just shaking of the rust in the first half. I'd like to see Skip put on some shorts and play LBJ one on one, so LBJ can dunk on him :)
mark(manahattan ks)
Dwights block gets a 8 out of 10 based off where his head was in relationship to the back board!
Will (WV)
Howard - 7 Varlamov - 9 Triple play - 4 We get to see triple plays all the time. Howard has his own highlight reel with nothing but blocks...yet, Varlamov stopped that puck at a critical time and it was a game changer!
Ed (Morristown,Tn
I know most folks dont like just having nothing to do after you have worked your whole life! I say if Brett wants to play I am all for it! He has the right to choose what he wants to do it is a free country!
Minard (Ogdensburg, NJ)
1. 7 2. 9.5 3. 5
Pete, NJ
Play 1 gets a 6.5. Play 2 gets a 9. and Play 3 gets a 6.5
Tom (syracuse, NY)
BY FAR... The save vs. Sidney... 9.5. They do not get much better than that. Also in the playoffs. The other two did not mean that much in the course of the game.
Kyle (Philadelphia , PA)
The block on Ray Allen is the best play because after that block Ray Allen was scared to come back down their with Howard in da middle , and he finished the game with 9 pionts. Oh yeah Skipp do u remember Ray Allen did have 51 pionts but they lost that game he won't put up 51 on the Magics....
Chris Hightower (Charleston, IL)
So does Skip just get paid to come out and say whatever goes against common sense. Old QB coming to 3 team in 3 years after melting down at the end of the last two seasons? Sure! The Hawks have something positive to take from a near 30 point beatdown? WHY NOT!?!?! Come on Skip can u just try and be serious and logical one time. PLEASE!!!
Bob (Chicago, IL)
Do you think it is time for us Cubs fans to start worrying? 100 years and counting, I don't know how much more I can take of this!!! What are your thoughts?
Jay Crawford (10:53 AM)
there's always something to worry about with the cubs...but there time is near...
Scott (Colorado Springs)
Six Levels needs to have a money back guarantee if they don't make the playoffs. Just playing
Matt(New Britain,CT)
shaq would own chuck lidell
Chizzie Thornton, Co
Shaq would kill Liddell
Jay Crawford (10:55 AM)
not a chance!
joe lowcash [via mobile]
jay spit on skip for me please
Jay Crawford (10:55 AM)
ummm. i cant sorry...
Calvin W (Clearwater, FL)
How about some lacrosse talk on third down?
Jay Crawford (10:55 AM)
probably not sorry.
John, Austin
CMon Jay, the way Liddell's been fightin lately Skip could knock him out.
Jay Crawford (10:56 AM)
lol. chuck on his worst day...
Danny (Tonasket, Wa.)
Shaq against Lidell, anyone out there remember when Wilt Chamberlain challenger Ali to a boxing match. History does repeat.
Nic (Lawrence, KS)
I'm pretty sure that Shaq would get knocked out in under 1 min. Not saying Shaq isn't tough, but it's a different type of tough.
Michael Jordan
Brett Favre is no Michael Jordan. I changed the game, he just played a game.
Jeff (Longmont, CO)
Skip is right! Why isn't there more talk about Ted Thompson's role in the Brett saga?! He was a cancer in Seattle, and now a cancer in Green Bay. He cut Whale for no reason, he drafted an heir apparent to Brett a year before it would have made sense to, he has run other players out of GB and kept others from signing there. It is turning into a repeat of the 80's for the Packer nation and NO ONE is making him accountable to it! The NFC was SO WEAK last year that, if The Pack still had Brett, it would have been the Packers in the Super Bowl...NO DOUBT!
Danny (Tonasket, Wa.)
Shaq doing MM, refs will really have to watch him next year. Tongue firmly in cheek.
Chizzie Thornton, Co
Jay what do you mean "no chance"?
Jay Crawford (10:57 AM)
no chance
Dana Jacobson (10:57 AM)
danny that sarcasm i got...
Denny - Rankin, IL
Dana, Chuck's last name is pronounced Luh-dell with emphasis on the "dell" not Li-dell.
Dana Jacobson (10:58 AM)
denny in fairness i've been going round and round with people on this including our guys and it seems to be split down the middle. but thanks for the info
Dave (Utah)
Nic, that's crazy talk. Obviously you haven't seen that Chuck's chin is made of glass. He's lost 4 of his last 5 fights, all of which by KO.
mark(manhattan ks)
Taking a solid punch on the chin is a lot different than getting fouled...shaq better stick to the dunking
Dave (Utah)
Dana, how annoying was it to hear Shaq's training promote his website and gym after every single question? haha
Viva(Indianapolis IN)
Which is worse: Brett Favre or the Swine Flu? Coverage on both seems to be contagious...
Aaron (Denver)
Farve overrated? Name one top 10 receiver he threw to in his career. Montana and Young had Rice, Unitas had Berry, Peyton had Harrison. Look at Eli without Plax.
Dana Jacobson (10:59 AM)
dave, a little. But I was entertained by the idea of shaq doing this... he's got a biz he wants to promote...
Chris Hightower (Charleston, IL)
Shaq versus Chuck would be over in 45 seconds. Shaq would crush him!!!!
Ed (TN)
I agree with Barkley the more I watch the NBA playoffs the more the Nuggets look stronger than the Cavs or Lakers!
Matt F (Frankenmuth, MI)
I just woke up. Is there any Melrose today? I want to get his take on the Wings/Ducks finish last night and the tying goal that wasn't.
Dana Jacobson (11:01 AM)
matt, barnaby later
Gus (Berlin, CT)
Why can't shaq just stick to b-ball? He has embarrassed him self enough with the movies, rap cds, tryn to be a cop and I am sure he has had other stunts. No disrespect, I am sure he could hold his own, for a few. He does not even play a full game or full season sometimes, how will he last in the ring?
Tone(Ohio)
Start the buzz now Shaq vs Kimbo fight of the decade.
Tony (Lawrence, KS)
Stick a fork in Dallas! They are D-U-N, dun!
Steffond (Norwalk,CA)
The Nuggets will not get past the Lakers...but it does seem we have taken an attitude of complacency which is disgusting...Laker Nation For Life
Brady MD
Do not believe that all of a sudden there is a D in Denver Go Lakers!
Joey (Louisiana)
Sir Chuck is a knucklehead. he's just "turrible".
J-Mac N.Kingstown R.I.
There is "NO" way Denver can beat both the Lakers and then Cleveland not a chance... You can tell sir Charles is no longer bettin w/ a pick like that...
jessie ( north jersey)
favre is the real team oblitorator!!!!
Will (Tampa)
Give me swine flu over Brett anytime. I mean it, literally give me the swine flu instead of subjecting me to more Favre talk
Rinde (Cleveland)
Barkley picking the nuggets to win it all is as creditable as Skip picking the Hornets to come out the west lol
mark (manhattan ks)
Charles Barkely is a prisoner of the moment...Denver has been good lately but they arent even in the top three record wise.
John, Austin
Sir Charles has a point about the West, not sure the Nugs can beat the Cavs. The Lakers looked flawed so far while Denver is getting hot at the right time.
Josh (Milwaukee,WI)
The fishing is getting good this time of year and Favre is just going up there to throw a line in the water with his buddy Brad. Everyone reads in to this stuff to much, lol.
Dana Jacobson (11:06 AM)
Josh are you saying book it? no favre return
Tony (Lawrence, KS)
How about the Dodgers being 12-0 at home? Amazing to see this happen these days considering how hard it is to sweep series (sans Red Sox v Yankees).
Dana Jacobson (11:07 AM)
tony, more on teh dodgers coming up i think in the next segment
jc (texas)
i can't wait for orlando to beat the 'prince' james and the cavs. then we'll see what jay has to say
Chizzie Thornton, CO
FINALLY some Nuggets talk on 1st and 10
Chizzie Thornton, Co
Mark (Manhatten KS) this is the playoffs. Everyone has a clean slate. so Denver's record is 6-1
josh m (baltimore)
for jay and skip. Lebron(lebum) is at best a better magic johnson(6'9 250 athlete facilitator who scores, and not michael or kobe 6'6 220 scorer with every shot, and cltuch that can facilitate
Dana Jacobson (11:08 AM)
josh, and being magic would be so bad???
Eric (Minneapolis MN)
I wonder if Brett Favre has a beef with Trent Dilfer when he told him "NO" to any of the allegations to coming back to football and joining the vikings, what do you think?
Dana Jacobson (11:09 AM)
eric, i don't. honestly i think he was in a no state then when the vikings called it became a maybe and at least i'll listen. depends on the minute how he feels
Mos Un (Houston, Texas)
hey, dana seems u are sympathetic to skips positions on lebron. Mo is no pippen, shaq, oscar/jabbar or anyone magic or bird had. He is a good player that can potentially be great cuz he is still young. If james wins a title, u all can give up hope tryin to find other reasons not to say that he is the best in the world and that will validate his team. Relax dana, I know u dont like what he did to ur pistons but it was expected by those of us that have followed him closely since high skool. he is the real deal. Kobe has time tickin and can already see james's rise to the top.
Dana Jacobson (11:11 AM)
Mos, clearly you dont watch much or chat much with us if you think I am sympathetic to skips position on lebron. B/c i quesion isn't mo supposed to be lebron's pippen? don't see the logical flow but suffice it to say i dont agree. i dont think he is jordan but i do think he has reinvigorated the game, is a great player, and deserving of accolades. He does need to win a title though, titles preferably
Dave (Philly)
Trent Dilfer also said that if anybody has earned, from his credentials, to discuss coming back again, it's Brett Favre.
Dana Jacobson (11:12 AM)
Dave, he's done it once...could have avoided doing it again.
Jonathan ((Atlanta, GA))
Thank you, Skip, for calling out Ted Thompson. In this whole fiasco, he's the one guy who hasn't received the blame he should.
Jaek (Bronx, New York)
Favre the lack of respect for such a class orginization like the Packers. Playing for the enemy?? Cmon..its like Derek Jeter retiring and coming back to play for Boston..New York would be sick!!!!!!!!
Kerry (Cleveland, O)
Jay, Did Rocco's golf lessons help on your vacation?
Jay Crawford (11:15 AM)
i wish i could tell you. i tore my medial coll ligament and im on the shelf for a while....
Jake
Yeah go Rob. Brett Fraud is the perfect name for him.
dj (harrisburg)
one chance @ national tv and u cheapen by pluggin a ridiculous website 12 times. stick to the interview buddy
Pete, NJ
Jaek, would NY Yanks ever diss Jeter like GB did Favre???
Brian Whitesell (Blacksbur Va)
I agree that Brett Favre is selfess I so sick and tired of hearing about him he is mister ego and its always have to be about him
Michael (Jackson, MS)
I have tons of respect for Jeter, but I hate him as a player just cause he's a Yankee. I'd love for him to play for the Sox so I could pull for him. Great idea Jaek.
Derek (MO)
Why cant brett just retire and go away, barry sanders did. And barry could have gone anywhere and won a championship, or to another team and rub it in the lions face for never giving him a legit QB. Why cant brett just retire as is
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Jaek: Or like Roger Clemens coming back to play for the Yankees...wait.
Tony (Miami, FL)
There should be a poll to see how much the viewers want to hear about Brett
Jay Crawford (11:17 AM)
funny tony!
Adam G. Tampa, FL
I would like to thank all of you for the love today... I have two things to say... The Green Bay Packers will pay for choosing AWrong Rodgers over me, 2. Skip Bayless you da man!
aron (denver,co)
lakers gota beat the rockets first if they can
Chizzie Thornton, Co
Red Wings getting beat is awesome
Nelson (Marlboro, NJ)
Lebron James is overrated. The only thing that he has won was one MVP trophy that should have went to Kobe. When they get to the Finals they will lose to the Lakers or Nuggets whoever makes it.
Jay Crawford (11:18 AM)
hes only 24 nelson....easy....
Hustle (Phoenix, Az)
Eh Jay, Do you think LerBron & Cleveland should show more respect towards Cleveland legends like Mark Price & Craig Ehlo? I mean its been a long way up. Should'nt they extended the love?
Jay Crawford (11:19 AM)
well remember, price and ehlo never played for a title. sure, they should have them back for a pregame ceremony or something.
Chris Hightower (Charleston, IL)
Brett Favre is no Barry Sanders
Austin ((Charlotte, NC))
red wings got robbed
Jonathan (ATL)
Actually Tony, that's a great idea. Dana & Jay, why don't you allow us to chose the main topics you talk about before the show (provide us a list and we select prior to the start of the show)?
Calvin W (Clearwater, FL)
Jay you are wrong. Rob Parker is right. You asked the question should the Packers still retire Favre's number. Rob says yes becuase it would be ridiculous to hold a grudge against Favre because of how the relationship ended. Pete Rose comparison is perfect. MLB has not wiped out Rose's accomplishments. The Packers not retiring his number would be like whiping out his accomplishments.
Jay Crawford (11:20 AM)
calvin. you're comparing betting on baseball to changing teams when you compare rose to favre. it doesn't fit....not even close!
RJ (Boston)
Cleveland "legends", like Price and Ehlo... HAAAA HAAA HAAA... God, I'm glad I'm not from Cleveland.
John (Austin)
What are they drinkin in Phoenix? Ehlo a legend?
Steven (Philadelphia, PA)
Jay, it must have warmed your heart coming back from vacation, seeing what the #1 topic was, & you shook your head & said, "Lawdhavemercy, Brett Favre again!" (*LOL*)
Paul (West Palm Beach Fl.)
I don't see what the big deal is about Farve. If he wants to play he should play. Jordan did he Retiremenet shuffle.
Josh( GB Wiz )
Though we were heartbroken Brett will always be loved here, we blame the new brass. Skip was dead on with his answer, the other guy sounded more like Skip then Skip!
Jay Crawford (11:21 AM)
steven, that's exactly what i did...wow!!!
Dana Jacobson (11:21 AM)
paul, to me that was ust as annoying
Ryan (ohio)
Red Wings 1 Ducks 1 Refs 1 its a tied series going to game 4
Dana Jacobson (11:21 AM)
ryan, funny. barnaby thinks wings will come out hot in game 4
R Mom (Spring Valley, NY)
Bob (Chicago, IL), You're not worrying already about the Cubs? What are you waiting for?! You should be beyond worry heading, past full meltdown, and waxing nostalgic about the year last year never was!
Jordan Eau Claire, WI
If Brett Favre goes to the Vikings than you can find my Favre jersey in the trash. His mid life crisis needs to end sooner than later before he ruins a legacy. 49ers forgot about the chiefs, ill forget about the Jets but not the Vikings!!!!
James Denver
Why doesnt ESPN change its name to the A Rod Favre channel. You spend 12 months year talking Favre and A Rod.
Paul (West Palm Beach Fl.)
Dana annoying or not Jordan did it before Farve. And by the way it's not him comming out of retirement that drives people crazy. It's all the media outlets talking about it all day long.
Calvin W
Jeff Weaver was great last night. It is time for Torre to send James McDonald to the farm, Ee I Ee I Oh.
Will (Tampa)
Be fair, James--they also talk about DWade and the red sox! How much more balance could you want?
Dana Jacobson (11:25 AM)
paul and magic i think b/f that - all for different reasons. And yes all the reporting is what makes it annoying, but i bet if we didn't have anything on favre today you'd all be asking why we didn't report it if we knew. damned if we do, damned if we don't i think in stuff like this. AND i bet numbers are up today, sad as that sounds
Dave (Atlanta,GA)
James Why Dont you change your name to John
Moderator (11:25 AM)
James, you tired of getting that John Denver joke every day?
Kevin (Watertown, NY)
Why is all the Favre talk towards Bretts revenge at the Packers. Dont you guys think Favre could take the Vikings to the Superbowl with AP by his side? And isnt it every football players dream to go to the Superbowl. He was so close in Green Bay. I really believe he wants one more ring before he really....really retires.
Dana Jacobson (11:26 AM)
Kevin, i'd like to think that's where he is right now. He did admit that last year in going to the jets he was angry with ted thompson and wanted some revenge.
Viva(Indianapolis IN)
As much as I dislike Brett Favre how come when Jordan retired and then came back twice there wasn't nearly as much contempt towards him?
joe sass (st.paul mn.)
i would just like to see the brett favre thing really happen! im tired of seeing the vikes do soo good one game and the next we look flat as a deflated tire! mybe the 40 year old vet will get all the young guys fired up and the vikings can win a playoff game or two! come on brett the fans want a winner!! no more T jack!
Tristan Pierce (Palm Bay, FL)
I hope Lebron and the cavs win the finals so all these haters can move on to another "excuse" as to why hes overrated
Philip Minnesota
Is Trent Dilfer a Walter Cronkite in the making of NFL reporting?
Dana Jacobson (11:27 AM)
viva, i don't remember how it was covered...first different media era 10 years ago. second, i think there were some doubters. Maybe folks just love jordan more?
James Denver
M timeing must be off no comments posted all day and my cables out I need my firsttake Im hurting.
Moderator (11:27 AM)
where did that analysis come from, Philip?
Dana Jacobson (11:27 AM)
james we have counselors that can help you with your addicition.
Bryan (Mesa, AZ)
Joe Torre is a genius. He got out of New York in the knick of time and the Manram pickup was the death of the rest of NL west
Adam G. Tampa, FL
LA Dodgers vs. NY Yankees Book it! Joe Torre vs. his old team , Manny vs. ARoD.
jc (texas)
nelson is right jay... 'prince' james is overrated. id rather have dwyane on my team. he's actually won a championship
Dana Jacobson (11:28 AM)
bryan did you see the back of ny daily news today - we want torre - thats the headline
andrew (maine)
lebron is an amazing player.... but until he leads his team to multiple titles he'll never be in the class of jordan or kobe
Derek
So tired of the Ted Thompson must go comments, reiterated again by Skip. The decision of when to make the move toward the future without Brett was always going to make some Packer fans and people like Skip mad, no matter how much sense it made. They tried to accommodate Favre after his second and third change of heart after the championship game loss.
Mario(Akron)
Jay, why does Skip act like LeBron has to stop passing in order to score, and stop scoring in order to pass. Who does he think LeBron is? Kobe Bryant? He doesn't have to stop one thing in order to do the other, he just plays his game. If it wasn't for the rustiness of Ilgauskas and Smith, LeBron would have had around 8 assists. It was the defense that changed the basketball game in the second half.
Dave (Utah)
Now that the Coyotes have folded, I would hate to see the franchise go to Canada. Especially after Montreal's complete disrepect for "OUR" National Anthem in this years playoffs.
Jay Crawford (11:28 AM)
i wish i knew...
Dana Jacobson (11:28 AM)
dave you mean BACK to canada - that's winnipeg right?
Brent (Pittsburgh)
I always need my Dana in the morning
kevin (savannah, ga)
Why should packers fans be surprised by favre meeting with childress? His loyalty seems to be to whomever will give him time in the spotlight. I just wish that the fans would realize that favre is no different from the other primadonnas that litter all of professional sports.
Danny (Tonasket, Wa.)
Dana, If I remember correctly, MJ retired first time to attempt to play pro baseball not because he was "tired" and came back the second time to try and help establish the Wizards that he had a financial interest in, seems a lot different than the prima donna every year thing with Favre
Brandon (Texas)
farve is awesome..lol..syke
Dana Jacobson (11:29 AM)
danny, that could be it too. I dont know if you can compare retirements of greats..b/c they're all viewed so differently. And as you're saying the reasoning is different
Adam G. Tampa, FL
Dana I need to see the same counselor or maybe Skip Bayless's psychiatrist.
Dana Jacobson (11:29 AM)
I feel your pain Adam
Aaron (Denver)
Paul, great Post to continue the discussion on how the media keeps the Favre saga by continually talking/writing about it, when you want it to just go away.
jc (texas)
you're all complaining about favre talk, yet i have to hear it from jay and espn about how great 'prince' james is. i wish you all at espn would shut up about 'prince' james until he actually won something worth talking about like.... lets say..... A CHAMPIONSHIP
Brandon (Texas)
what i hate is how ppl act like shaq made kobe since he won those champiionships with him... last i checked all shaqs rings came when he had another superstar on his team...he had kobe and dwade
Ryan (ohio)
Hey JC from Texas yes Wade does have a ring but Lebron doesn't have SHAQ...
Dana Jacobson (11:34 AM)
JC, as tired as you are of that is as tired as some people are of arod and some others are of the yankees or kobe. It is the beauty of OUR 24-7 MEDIA society
Moderator (11:34 AM)
what do you guys think, can Dungy save Vick? does he really need to save Vick?
Tony (Lawrence, KS)
Dungy will be able to help Vick only if Vick lets him and listens to him.
Chris Hightower (Charleston, IL)
So when is Tony Dungy gonna meet with Brett Favre and give him some help?
Adam G. Tampa, FL
It's ridiculous the time I spend watching you guys I love it
Moderator (11:35 AM)
spread the word Adam
Philip (Minnesota)
I live close to the wisconsin border and one of my roommates is a big Packers fan. Ever since he heard about Favre talking with Childress hes been locked in his room, lights off, listening to emo music, My question is this, should I get a new roommate?
Moderator (11:35 AM)
if you don't like emo music you should, Philip
Nelson (Marlboro, NJ)
Brandon, Kobe and Wade didnt win championships until Shaq got there.
Will (WV)
Joe Torre's departure in NY was the best thing for MLB. Who will the NY front office have to blame now? Let them start firing themselves. Torre has proven he is a winner whereever he coaches! Go Dodgers!
Bubba (Hall of Fame)
Jay, of course the Yanks made a mistake letting go a 1st ballot Hall of Fame coach. But Baby Steinbrenner wanted to make his stamp on taking over the Evil Empire.
Jim (Arizona)
Vick should not get another chance in the NFL. Sorry he lost his chances.
Moderator (11:42 AM)
4th down..did the Yanks make a mistake in lettingTorre go?
Jeff (Ohio)
Andrew from Maine, I must have missed when Kobe last "lead" a team to a title? I must have blacked out because I was sure Shaq was the reason for the 3 Laker titles. His Heat title with D-Wade just backs it up.
David52 (Nevada)
The more I see the Cowboy Practice Facility tragedy, the more I want to see harm punishment handed down upon Jerry Jones and the organization. This sort of thing is unacceptable, there should have been the proper inspections conducted.
Albert Saint Simons,GA [via mobile]
Jay why should we really care about vick? When he played he really didn't do anything he only had 2 years over 500 and now that he went to jail he is not going to be starter he won't be anything. Jail is not a training camp unless you play in dallas
Steve (Miami)
No. The Yanks should have let Torre go. But they hired to wrong guy. Joe Girardi is not a good fit with the Yankees.
nelson (marlboro, nj)
I love the Yanks. But letting Torre go was the biggest mistake ever. Even bigger then signed Carl Pavano to a huge deal
Rick (Toledo via Portage County)
I don't know if it was a mistake to release Torre, but picking up Giradi was!
Michael (Jackson, MS)
Moderator, that shows that today's not a good day...how is that even debatable? (I admit I loved it as a Yankee Hater)
Moderator (11:45 AM)
maybe some day we'll let you guys pick a 4th down topic, Michael
Bryan (Mesa AZ)
in a word yes. The experiance that Torre had on his staff alone was invaluable
Chad (Las Vegas)
NO manager will win in NY right now with the current roster and farm system the Yanks have.
J-Mac N.Kingstown RI
The Yanks know that they messed up letting Torre go, thats why there spending all that CA$H on those players so they will hopefully make up for the errors that Girardi will make...
Jay Crawford (11:46 AM)
i wish it would go away...it just keeps coming back.
Jim Donaldson (Canton, Ohio)
They sure did. Just look at the Dodgers. They don't have the payroll or even the talent on paper and look at their record. It is a direct reflection on their manager. A slap in the face of Mr. Steinbrenner.
rick (colorado)
maybe some day colorado will be allowed to post......
Kevin (Watertown, NY)
Not even Torre could of saved Wang's ERA
Adam G. Tampa, FL
Joe Torre seems like the Rex Ryan of the MLB. The ultimate player's coach. Torre seems very street smart and book smart. All that said the Yankees need more guys with Jeter's mental toughness if they want to be champs again.
Tony (Miami, FL)
I want to know what did Shaq do to help wade get a ring. Sure he helped Wade get there but once he got there Shaq was just another teammate watching WADE become a superstar. Mourning was more help then Shaq.
Calvin W (Clearwater, FL)
Horse racing is a form of cruelity to animals. Why does ESPN promote it and the people who bet on it?
Jay Crawford (11:47 AM)
calvin, horses were born to run. i do with they'd ban the whips though.
rick (colorado)
HOCKEY PLAY IS THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bryan (Mesa AZ)
Jim what was in your coffee this morning? The Dodgers ave as much YOUNG talent as anybody
josh m (baltimore)
yes they made a mistake because like phil jackson he can keep major egos in check, and handle situations
RJ (Boston)
Maybe someday, Rick will get out of bed early enough to be a part of the chat when we were talking Nuggets and basketball.... or maybe he could just check the transcript.
Jay Crawford (11:49 AM)
wow rj! harsh!
Larry (Houston)
Why doesnt vick deserve another chance?
Scott (Colorado Springs)
Asking Yankee fans if Joe Torre should have been fired is like asking Bronco Fans if Shannon should have been fired. I think the Yankees and Broncos shouldn't have fired their coaches, because those coaches made those teams what they were.
Adam G. Tampa, FL
Tommy Smith nice shirt buddy.
Adam G. Tampa, FL
Jay check the 1995 Little League record of the Dodgers of Piscataway 23-0 baby hahahaha
Michael (Jackson, MS)
Sounds good to me. I'd love for you guys to let us pick the topics one or two days a week. You're already awesome, but that'd push First Take to the next level.
Robby (Boston)
It was the greatest move the Yankees ever did. Thank you Hank. *snickers*
Jay Crawford (11:49 AM)
ha! sorry adam, our record books didn;t reflect that.
Ben (Plattsburgh)
Emo music stopped being cool 5 years ago
Mark Shapiro (Cleveland)
In fact, the Dodgers have SOOO much young talent, they could afford to give away their best prospect for Casey Blake. Thanks again LA.
Jay Crawford (11:50 AM)
hey mark, fix the bully already! HIDEOUS!
Aaron (Denver)
How did Tommy not drop an "Onion Bag" comment! C'MON!
rick (colorado)
thank you skip for making my point name a better play this year
Tom (River North)
Tell Rob I didn't say best player in the league, I said the league's Golden Boy. Ovechkin is the best player...
Dave (Utah)
Jay, when did PETA fans start getting on the chat? The "whip" is part of the sport, do you honestly think that the horse is hurt, harmed, or sad to feel the crack?
rick (colorado)
jay could you please go over and high stick skip ? please please please
Calvin W (Clearwater, FL)
I would rather watch Tommie's tie than watch Skip.
Rick (Toledo via Portage County)
I think Skip needs to wear Tommy Smith's tie... That thing is just AWESOME!!!
Adam G. Tampa, FL
Tommy his name is Skip! lol
Jay Crawford (11:52 AM)
dave, they dont need it. it will be banned soon. does it hurt? what do you think?
Moderator (11:52 AM)
that was classic, calling him chip
Umor (detroit mi)
Chip bayless. hockey fan
Dana Jacobson (11:52 AM)
umor, classic!
RJ (Boston)
No. Datsyuk is the best overall player. Ovechkin is the best scorer.
tim (jacksonville)
barcelona is gunna dominate today!!!
Dana Jacobson (11:53 AM)
RJ datsyuk needs to step up...no draper and rafalski wings need some help
Andrew (Syracuse)
Skip I have lost all respect for you. You should never utter the words Chelsea out of your mouth again you have no idea what your talking about...
Lyndell (PA)
then why areyou watchin
Tony (Miami, FL)
What channel on direct tv in Miami is the hockey game on. I know its sad to ask when its a playoff game
Will (WV)
Jay...glad to have you back brother!
Dana Jacobson (11:53 AM)
will, its great to be back! thanks!
Dana Jacobson (11:53 AM)
Tony don't know channel. go online on direct tv and look up versus (vs) that's what it's on during the week. nbc has weekend stuff
Mark (manhattan ks)
Jay, please post this. I met Mike Vick in Leavenworth when i visited my brother. I have had several conversations with him and most of my family has also. My daughter loves him and my mother is what he calls his favorite Kansas lady. He is a really good guy who made a huge mistake. He regrets what he did because he didn't know his actions would evoke such emotion from the public. HE IS HUMAN! He deserves a second chance like anyone else and by the way, he's still in great shape!
Jeff (Ohio)
Lemme tell you, Datsyuk has been amazing in the series. Oh wait, he disappeared.
Dana Jacobson (11:54 AM)
jeff, i hear ya
Austin ((Charlotte, NC))
Man U is gonna REPEAT!!!!!
Danny (Tonasket, Wa.)
Didn't Rob call him Skip Clueless once. That is funny, I don't care what you say.
Dana Jacobson (11:54 AM)
danny more than once
Larry (Houston,TX)
dont ya love tommy's accent?
Dana Jacobson (11:54 AM)
larry yes
Tom (River North)
I love Datsyuk as a Wings fan, but in the playoffs Ovechkin has been fantastic. And Dana is right. Detroit needs Rafi back for the PP in addition to keeping Chelios off the ice.
Dana Jacobson (11:55 AM)
tom, ovechkin is the kind of player that makes it look so effortless, makes hockey look beautful!
Sam (Lake Bluff, IL)
Is Chicago about to go from the top of the sports buzz to the bottom in a matter of a week? First Bulls go down, Cubs and Sox are slumping, and the Hawks are on the brink of being eliminated. How did this happen so fast?
Rick (Toledo via Portage County)
Why isn't "Chip" wearing Tommy's tie?! C'Mon!!!
Dana Jacobson (11:55 AM)
sam, give the blackhawks a little chance. but man sports are unkind
rick (colorado)
dane you are only one who watches hockey on the show right?
Dana Jacobson (11:56 AM)
rick, jay used to play...not sure how much he watches though. and i try to catch wings during the regular season but am devoted post season
Will (WV)
Dana..does Espn offer studio tours at all? I am very interested in getting a close look at where all the magic happens.
Dana Jacobson (11:56 AM)
will, i believe they are just for friends and family now. not sure. you can call the main number 860-766-2000 and ask.
James ( Avalon )
Unless you've played ice hockey you can't really appriciate the skill required to make that save for a goalie diving backwords with a ton of pads on... Tens across the board!
Rinde (Cleveland)
I would rather listen to skip all night talk about his love for Lebron then to watch a soccer game.
Aaron (Denver)
Rob should have wear Tommy's tie with that disaster he called his "get up" yesterday.
Dana Jacobson (11:57 AM)
nice aaron, he told me he dressed down today
RJ (Boston)
Osgood is only as good as his defencemen. It isn't Datsyuk who's flailing and complaining out there.
Chad (Las Vegas)
BREAKING NEWS! Brett Favre is coming out of retirment to compete on the Bass Masters Tour. We will see him trying to catch a lunker this fall on ESPNOCHO.
Price (Augusta)
Hey Dana, what is Brett going to do?
Jay Crawford (11:57 AM)
i like sowers mark, the bully is broken though. ok chatters. live like its the last day of school! talk more tomorrow!
Dana Jacobson (11:58 AM)
price i have absolutely no idea!!! i'm done speculating b/c who the heck knows.
Nate (San Antonio)
I agree with you DJ about Ovechkin. He is an artist and the ice is his canvas. When the game is over is a masterpiece which everyone thinks they can copy but never come close.
Tony (Miami, FL)
I think Brett should do what his biggest fan Madden did. LEAVE
J-Mac N.Kingstown RI
I love the fact that Boston swept the 2 game series against the Yanks in the Bronx.... But Jaba throwing at J-bay last night looked alot like it was on purpose. And why because Bay took him yard at his last at bat!!!
Adam G. Tampa, fL
Joe Girardi isn't the issue it's the mind set of the Old York Yankees players. If they go back to the 96 mindset of guys like Scotty Brosius and Paul Oneil then the Yanks would be fine.
Rick (Toledo via Portage County)
This September, Brett Favre needs to be in the booth analyzing the game, taking over for John Madden. I would be more lenient to him if this was his first time retiring... BUT IT'S NOT!!!
Aaron (Denver)
I can't wait for the Yankees honks to truly appreciate A-rod's value to this team. Texiera will explode once A-rod teams up in the line up. Just ask Big Papi how life is without Manny.
Will (WV)
Great show guys! Thanks for the entertainment once again!
Larry (Houston,TX)
I would enjoy hockey if i knew tha rules
Moderator (12:01 PM)
put the puck in the net, Larry
Danny (Tonasket, Wa.)
Well, got to go people, see you tomorrow
Paul (Denver)
Sam- since when is winning 4 out 5 games considered "slumping?" I swear some Cub fans don't know anything!
Albert (Saint Simons) [via mobile]
Why do we keep talking about farve? If he thinks he can play and we want to watch a old man get beat up and have his arms ripped off then let's watch it will be fun
rick (colorado)
soccer on ice larry but much faster and a lot better
Eric (Minneapolis)
Dana, Is Skip really that tough? Everyone keeps talking about his body fat and how tough he is. Maybe he works out with A-Rod???
Umor (detroit mi)
Gotta go. see ya DJ, Jay, and Chip. GO WINGS.
Dana Jacobson (12:02 PM)
Eric he is a specimien. Very healthy, works out all the time.
Daniel (orange, CA)
Jeff if Datzyuk disappeared, you can call Hiller David Copperfield
J-Mac NK RI
Hey Jay,Dana,Rod,Skip, and or Chip thanks 4 a great show and morning...
Dana Jacobson (12:02 PM)
daniel, hiller is playing way above his level. I asked matthew the other day if he'd keep it up and he was like if he does, wings are in trouble.... there you go!
rick (colorado)
what position did jay play? goalie? he's to pretty for d or forward
Dana Jacobson (12:03 PM)
rick, not sure - need to ask him....
Calvin W (Clearwater, FL)
ESPN is anti-Phillies. You pick tonight to show the game on tv and its Chan Ho Park vs Santana. ESPN just wants the Phillies to look bad.
Dana Jacobson (12:03 PM)
Calvin, yes that is it...its a conspiracy!!
Jay ( Westtown Pa.)
I wish the Phillies would get alittle more love from you guys you almost sound like a local tv station sometimes... They are the defending world champs!!!
Dana Jacobson (12:04 PM)
Jay if we were a local tv station we would do nothing but show them love. Seriously thought, what is it that you want, more coverage more stories? a better promo for their game?
Jim Donaldson (Canton, Ohio)
Anyone...Your Thoughts... At some point, both the baseball player and the manager must take the responsibility for their poor play. When a starter gives seven good innings and a bullpen comes in a blows the game, it comes down to two people...the ball player and manager for keeping them in the game to long. The Clevelnad Indians owner needs to make major changes from the top down or the organization will suffer another painful year.
Dana Jacobson (12:07 PM)
Jim yes its always a combination. But managers are easier to get rid of than players. Starts there...
Dana Jacobson (12:08 PM)
ok folks, talk with you tomorrow. the whole gang should be here...jay, michael, our moderator and myself. have a good day!
