morning folks...how good was LeBron last night? got any problem if its true MLB used reporter TJ Quinn's findings to suspend Manny, not a positive drug test?
tom nj [via mobile]
A fertility drug? Whats the real deal? Was MR trying to get pregnant? A sex change! Does he get to box Danny Bonaduce now?
Saul Mesa,Az [via mobile]
Dana am sick of this cav's they have no competition this lebron james guy come on now is he really gunna do this to a better team No!!
Jason (Fort Dodge, Ia)
I think it's bull that guys like A-Rod and Manny who used performance-enhancing drugs are probable going to end up getting in the Hall of Fame when the likes of the all-time hits king, Pete Rose, will never have another chance. If they're not going to ban these guys from the Hall for cheating how the hell can they're ban a guy for gambling. I feel players like Rose and "Shoeless" Joe are getting the raw end to deal.
Raydoggg Cleveland ,OH
Did the NBA show favorites with Kobe Bryant?
Joe S. (Davenport, Iowa)
How does Ron Artest not get suspended or fined for his cut throat sign to Kobe Bryant in Game 2? If an NFL player makes that same sign they get fined.
Umor(detroit mi)
Yeah the alanta hawks got beat so bad there were vultures flying over the building.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
From what I've seen in highlights, as I cannot get excited about the NBA Playoffs, LeBron has been right on so far. It will be interesting to see how he holds up against the winner of the Celtics/Magic series though. He simply hasn't been pushed yet.
Scott (Colorado Springs)
I have always been a so-so player in most sports. I wonder how far I could have gone if I took some HGH/JUICE. Maybe I could be making millions and be called a Superstar! Yeah Right, I love my life and I am proud to protect this country. If Ryan Howard or Pujouls are using and if they get caught it will kill baseball forever.
Jon, Ardmore, PA
So Manny Ramirez got busted for taking women's fertility drugs? That's not Manny being Manny. That's Manny being Mommy.
Dana Jacobson (9:43 AM)
good morning folks! Happy friday
Kerry (Cleveland, O)
Hey Jay, The SHOT has been EXORCISED...
Kerry (Cleveland, O)
Come on Joe, look at the whole video, he's showing the elbow thrown. The only thing they got wrong is Running Artest. He should have been left in, Joey Crawford shouldn't be Refereeing CYO 1st graders.
Umor(detroit mi)
morning DJ. ya see the franzen, flipula line came thru for the wings.
Dana Jacobson (9:47 AM)
Umor, I did...very happy with last nights game. credit to babcock for making the line change. melrose in hour 2 talking about it
Scott (Colorado Springs)
So on Mike and Mike this morning they were saying Brett Farve doesn't want to make his announcement until next week so he can be the headlines? Do you guys think this is true? I do.
Dana Jacobson (9:48 AM)
Scott, I'm not one who believes he does everything for headlines but there are many who do. I will say this though. If he's not coming back and hes sure, why not just say it now or issue a release or something?
tom nj [via mobile]
I wonder if Shoeless Joe ever had a sneaker endorsment deal?
Dana Jacobson (9:48 AM)
nice tom
Luis(houston) [via mobile]
Rockets in 6. La cant win in the H 2 much pressure poor kobe is 2 tired 2 carry this team but thanx 4 da gold medals kobe, no championship this year!! So 2 all yall critics keep tellin everybody were no good we cant win. Our journey has just started our first victim La next da weak lil Nuggets.
Dana Jacobson (9:49 AM)
Luis i think you may have little company on this one
Kerry (Cleveland, O)
hey Scott, I HOPE you are SO WRONG
Scott (Colorado Springs)
Dana, That is why I am thinking it is a true rumor. If he comes out next week and says he isn't coming back. Then that will seal the deal. Also, did you guys receive an email from me yesterday?
Dana Jacobson (9:52 AM)
scott i guess i just like to see the better in people, believe that he wants to be truly sure or something like that. i dont remember getting one. you can try sending again...lots of stuff ystdy with manny may have gotten caught up iwth that and deleted
Kerry (Cleveland, O)
How did Bob Melvin get canned before Eric Wedge? Just goes to show you the INDIANS have absolutely NO CLUE.
Michael G. Madison, WI
So one thing I am not hearing is the fact that hcG is also used for male infertility. Researching a bit into hcG I found: "In the male, hCG injections are used to stimulate the leydig cells to synthesize testosterone. The intratesticular testosterone is necessary for spermatogenesis from the sertoli cells. Typical uses for hCG in men include hypogonadism and fertility treatment." Maybe Manny's boys weren't functioning properly? Seems possible to me.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Kerry: Don't feel too bad. Bobby Cox hasn't done a blessed thing in several years and the Braves still employ him!
Umor(detroit mi)
the alanta hawks were beat so bad, that in the middle of the 3rd, they receive a phonecall from the fed saying they can get a bailout.
Moderator (10:02 AM)
Umor...not bad, but bailout jokes are already overused...so I'm deducting a tenth of a point for degree of difficulty
Scott Corpus Christi
Arod, Manny, Clemens, Bonds and the rest could learn a real lesson from Pettite. COme clean with the whole truth from day one and go on with it. Little lies and half truths are dragging this whole problem further.
Moderator (10:02 AM)
Scott, you're presuming Pettitte told the whole truth
Kerry (Cleveland, O)
I don't see anyone other than Orlando giving the Cavs a run. I thought it would be the Hawks but they are getting beaten like a rented mule.
Michael (Jackson, MS)
Johnny, I hope you don't really think that Bobby Cox isn't one of the best managers out there. As a lifelong die-hard Braves fan, there's no manager I'd rather have except maybe Torre.
Fadi (Glen Allen, VA)
This just in: NBA Final - Cavs Beat Nuggets in 5.
Dana Jacobson (10:05 AM)
Michael really good point - i had seen the same thing this morning. I know that's very personal but with his caeer/rep on the line don't you think at some point soon he'd come out and say look here's the problem. one thing though, using hgc for male infertility wouldn't explain the synthetic testosterone found in his blood test, from what i understand
Demarquis (Lakeland, FL)
I Believe Manny 100%, Its Just The Era Of Steroids In Baseball And Dont Matter Who You Is, The Media And The Fans Won't Believe Anything You Say!
Scott (Colorado Springs)
I am guessing Manny was hoping we would write this one off as "Manny being Manny"
Adam G. (Tampa, FL)
Manny being Tranny? ew
Dana Jacobson (10:06 AM)
Adam saw that yesterday and the post i believe says manny being franny
Aj Charleston
Ten dollars says Skip burns LeBron for his bad free throw night. "Superstars....dont....miss...free....throws. Michael was an 80% free throw shooter!"
Scott Corpus Christi
I miss players like Rusty Staub and Bob Horner. Nobody though those guys were on the juice
Moderator (10:07 AM)
I miss how Rusty Staub used to wear his stirrups..that was good comedy
Michael G. Madison, WI
Why is the media not reporting that hcG is only for female fertility, when researching hcG shows: "In the male, hCG injections are used to stimulate the leydig cells to synthesize testosterone. The intratesticular testosterone is necessary for spermatogenesis from the sertoli cells. Typical uses for hCG in men include hypogonadism and fertility treatment. " http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_chorionic_gonadotropin
Aj Charleston
I was actually nervous about the Cavs facing anyone with strong inside scoring, but with Andy in the starting lineup and Wallace and Smith playing lights out defense off the bench Im screaming BRING ON THE LAKERS!
Isaac(Tulsa)
Luis, you Houston folks can keep telling yourselves that but you don't even really believe it. Lakers are a better team and Kobe made it VERY clear last game that he is unguardable. Artest won't shoot that well the whole series, those were bad shots.
Dana Jacobson (10:08 AM)
michael as i said the synthetic testosterone isn't explained by the hgc use for fertility from what i understand. but it should be mentioned that its also a male fertility treatment, just dont want to be misleading
Adam G. (Tampa, FL)
I think all the stars are doing it. Who's next Big Papi? Look how he's dropped off the map, he was nothing in Minnesota, then he goes to Boston and is the best slugger in baseball, come on!
Kenny (Lansing, MI)
Can you guys do one show without mentioning Brett Favre?
Dana Jacobson (10:09 AM)
kenny not this one
tom nj [via mobile]
Rutgers grad and Draddy Trophy(academic heisman) winner Brian Leonard is now a Bengal. This guy was an awesome RB in college but unselfishly played FB senior year to block for Ray Rice. Dana, will he get reps in Cin! He can run and catch as well as block.
Rob (Tallahassee, Fla.)
I think in the bigger scheme of things I don't think 50 games is enough - it should be a season-long ban..... this is ridiculous.......
Dana Jacobson (10:11 AM)
tom, they've got a handful or rbs on the roster now - my guess they'll let guys battle it out in training camp. he could be a good 3rd down back for them
Demarquis (Lakeland, FL)
No Fadi...If The Cav's Beat The Nuggets In The Finals...Its Going Seven Games!
Scott Corpus Christi
What does it say about the state of MLB when the most honest guy throughout the whole steroid ordeal has been Jose Canseco?
Michael G. Madison, WI
Seeing it produces additional testerone, I guess I that would answer the additional levels of testoserone. Sorry, didn't see your first response. Just seems important to mention. Danke Dana. :)
Moderator (10:11 AM)
buckle up, here comes Skip on LeBron...
Dana Jacobson (10:12 AM)
michael that's ok...thing is it wasn't just additional testosterone that was found, this was synthetic testosterone. it appears differently in a blood test.
Matt(New Britain,CT)
arn't the nhl playoffs better than the nba? OT games v. blow-outs
Dana Jacobson (10:12 AM)
overall this year outside of bulls-celtics, yes
Keith (Hamilton,OH)
Orlando would give the Cavs a tougher time but I don't think they will get past the Celtics, they just don't look quite ready. If Cleveland plays a beat up Boston who is exhausted from their tough run I think it's possible the Cavs could sweep their way to the finals.
Dana Jacobson (10:13 AM)
keith, i have orlando winning over the celtics but man boston just keeps ticking. I dont think cavs would sweep eitehr boston or orlando though...they'll win, but not a sweep
Kerry (Cleveland, O)
Matt, Unless you are a Cavs fan, the AHL playoffs are more exciting...
Aaron (Denver)
Is anyone outside of Cleveland or Atlanta watching a single minute more of Cavs Hawks...aside from the ESPN highlights of course.
Dana Jacobson (10:14 AM)
aaron, last night i watched about 5. then went to hockey
Rob (Tallahassee, Fla.)
LeBron's "pose" last night, after the near halfcourt 3-pointer reminded me Jordan's "shrug" to the presstable
Aj Charleston
Well if you want to see a game the best chance is Saturday in Game 3, Atlanta crowd will pump them up, at least for one game.
Alex (Baltimore, MD)
I actually agree with Skip on 1st Down. My uncle is an ex-body-builder, and since 98 he's been laughing at the ridiculousness of the size of players and their excuses when they are caught.
grant (charleston, wv) [via mobile]
How does Skip if a doctor would prescribe a womens drug to a man,is Skip a doctor? There is a male version of menopause.
Dana Jacobson (10:16 AM)
Grant, I think you're trying to make a good point. We don't know, it could have been prescribed. It is a male fertility drug. BUT as i said earlier, the synthetic testosterone found in manny's blood is NOT explained by the HGC even if it's being used for appropriate reasons.
Aaron (Denver)
I am curious what difference Jameer Nelson would make in the Magic's run?
Dana Jacobson (10:17 AM)
aaron, good leader for the team at the very least
Adam G. Tampa, FL
Come on Chip, Lebron's just trying to get his Michael Jordan playoff pose on man lol.
Aj Charleston
-Shakes head- Skip, I would rather see LeBron and the Cavs play with a little passion and joy than watching elbows and slaps being thrown. Scrooge
John, Austin
Skip picking on LeBron is like saying Mother Teresa was a good nun but couldn't cure cancer or Martin Luther King was great leader but was a little overweight. In a world where Brett is having his own soap opera and Manny is taking drugs so he can apparently get pregnant, LeBron and the Cavs are having fun. At least someone is.
Scott (Colorado Springs)
Skip stop talking you had your turn! Let Howard talk!
Matt(New Britain,CT)
why shouldn't he celebrate? his team his trashing atlanta, there's nothing left in this series. lebron is a young guy,it was a blowout, get over it skip
Scott (Colorado Springs)
He is changing the game! He isn't throwing Bows at peoples heads, he isn't fighting players in the stands, etc.. Skip Bayless loves the attention he gets by hating on King James!
Tom, Westlake OH
Skip stop hating on Lebron. The only thing that he could do to make you happy would be to retire. He's an allstar, he's one of the greatest players to ever play the game let him and the team have their fun. Cleveland needs that. Cleveland wants that. The stands are still filled, don't really think too many people agree with you. Just stop it.
Kerry (Cleveland, O)
ENOUGH of the NAPOLEAN COMPLEX Skip. Did LeBron steal your lunch money one day?
Scott Corpus Christi
It pains me to say this but Skip is right. Jordan never showboated like LeBron does.
Keith (Hamilton,OH)
LeBron has no class? Skip, please remember to take your medications before doing the show please. Just because LeBron is having fun and enjoying himself playing the game he now has to show more "proffesionalism"? Are we trying to turn the NBA into the "No Fun League" now?
Jonathan (Atlanta, GA)
Skip's on point. LeBron is posing against mediocre teams. Let's see him do this Boston or the Lakers/Rockets/Nuggets.
Aaron (Denver)
Jay, A fist pump is a natural reaction to making a great shot. Steady does of contrived celebrations are gonna get him whacked.
Ryan (Casper WY)
I cant believe I agree with Skip. Lebron needs to gain some class and respect for the game. How can Jay sit there and defend Lebron everyday. Can you say homer. If you are the best player in the game, then you should act like it not a punk!
Kerry (Cleveland, O)
Scott, really? 20 years prior Jordan punching at the Cleveland Fans, got lucky as Cleveland was the team to beat, had some injuries and it was a 5 game series. 7 Games? Jordan don't get that first run in the playoffs.. SORRY
Aj Charleston
Say what you want, Ill take LeBron's celebrations to KG's crawling on the floor and taunting rookies....
jason
Skip, this is the playoffs. this is not a january game against memphis. it is not LeBron's fault if Atlanta cannot match up with the Cavs
Jay Crawford (10:23 AM)
great pt kerry
Ali Staten Island, NY
Skip, hate all you want but Lebron is playing at such a high level and with such a swagger that I dont think a single team in the east can handle him.
Michael (Jackson, MS)
Don't get me wrong about this...Lebron will probably be the closest thing to being as good as Jordan as we've ever seen...but Skip is exactly right about this. Jordan showboated in BIG moments, and Lebron is starting to showboat all game. Once again folks, he shows that he is not, and will never be, in Jordans class.
Lance (New York, N.Y.)
Look, if the Cavaliers can maintain their dominance of the NBA in this play-offs, LeBron James can do whatever he wants with showboating. He wants to put a bulls-eye on himself? Fine. Again, it's not as though any team is making the Cavaliers sweat.
Aaron (Denver)
Having "fun" by blatantly showing up your opponent in a blowout is classless. If Lebron hit a homerun and posed staring at it in a 10-0 baseball game, he would get plunked. The Hawks need to throw some chin music for dignity's sake.
Keith (Hamilton,OH)
How quickly people forget the even Jordan was a showboater at times. I remember watching the old Cavs/Bulls playoffs and as a Cavs fan I can remember seeing Jordan show off more than a few times after making a big shot. A big double standard going on here it seems.
Jonathan (Atlanta, GA)
Jay, I disagree with your comparison of Tiger's fist pump to LeBron antics. Tiger does it in the Final round usually in an extremely competitive match....not during the second round. LeBron doing this in a second round match up in a blowout is pretty classless. I guarantee you he won't do this in the the Finals or next round against the Celtics.
Dana Jacobson (10:25 AM)
keith thank you!!! I was saying that across the studio when skip said MJ never did this. Come on. different levels perhaps - different decades!!!!
Nick, Harrisonburg, VA
What is Skip talking about. Does he even remember MJ. Jordan was the biggest trash talkin', posing player ever. Go watch some playoff games from there two three peats. How about the shot over Eilo in Cleveland, the posing in Portland, or and game against the Knicks.
Dana Jacobson (10:26 AM)
nick my guess he'sll say trash talk is different, mj was a champ and had a right
David Perez, El Paso, TX
Dana, I've been watching your show now for over two years now, and I have to say it is done wonderfully. Anyway, my comment is about Manny. For all the people that say he should be crucified I say get a life. The reason and only reason these guys do it is to get a piece of the pie that we as fans created by continuing to pay ridiculous ticket prices, concessions and so on. If we really want this to stop make a statement by saying I'm not going to the games anymore. Go see a good college baseball game, or better yet stay home and use your hard earned money to spend time with your kids or significant other. I love the game of baseball but, my money is best served on other things and occasionally watching the game of the week.
Matt(New Britain,CT)
i can't believe people are actually agreeing with skip. look at what k-rod does after saves, people celebrate.
Jay Crawford (10:29 AM)
and others
Scott Phoenix
I don't understand Skip. In his mind its ok for Kobe Bryant to trash talk Shane Battier for the entire game. He also continuously looked over at Doug Collins after every basket he made and had something to say to him based on a talk they had before the game. Why is this ok and its not ok for Lebron to show boat a little? Skip just hates Lebron and has no perspective when it comes to him.
Ali, Staten Island, NY
Skip are you kidding me, Lebron show off is not even as close as bad as when Josh Smith did a between the legs dunk to rub it in the Miami Heat's face. Not nearly as bad as Kobe yelling "he can't hold me" against the Rockets.
Josh (Pittsburgh, PA)
When it comes to Manny Ramirez taking hCG, I can't be mad... It's just Manny being Mommy
Rob (Tallahassee, Fla.)
The ONLY time Jordan didn't showboat during the playoffs was when he was sick with the flu.........
Matt(New Britain,CT)
so wasn't the media kicking around nothing then with favre?
Martin (Johnston,OH)
Skip, you are a joke! Lebron shimmys after 1 dunk, and after that halfcourt JUMPER, you would stand there and think , "WOW, that really went in" after that dunk, they were up HUGE! something was needed to get thet croud hyped! he is playin with the croud, you need to be fired just like like that loud mouth SAS! you know nothing about sports, a retarded flea knows more about sports then you!
Rob (Tallahassee, Fla.)
Tell me someone.........was MJ's "shrug" at the press table (after making 3-pointers) the last game of the finals? I don't think so.....
Dana Jacobson (10:30 AM)
matt, no i dont think so. despite bus cook saying favre didn't tell him they talked, sounds like brett and childress did
Aaron (Denver)
The big difference Lebron supporters are missing. Everytime you reference Jordan's celebration you are talking of "big shots" or more specifically "The Shot". Jordan was celebrating wins not dunks in a 20-30 point blowouts.
DALE FROM BALTIMORE
DANA, DOES SKIP MAKE THESE COMMENTS ON PURPOSE TO GET A RAISE OUTTA YOU GUYS ON THE SET AS WELL YOUR LOYAL FANS CAUSE ALOT STUFF HE SEZ IS PLAIN CRAZY. EXAMPLE LAST WEEK HE SAID HOWARD DIDNT ELBOW THE PHILLY CENTER.
Charles DTown Ohio
Dana I have to agree with Skip too. Atlanta doesnt have the heart to do what needs to be done. He wouldnt even do what he is doing against Houston becuase they wouldnt be letting him get to the rim without some resistance so to speak. I am waiting for the team to dust off the old Jordan rules that the Pistons had and stop letting him fly thru the air with the greatest of ease, they forced Jordan to develop the most lethal midrange game ever, and that is what Lebron needs to develop but not if teams keep allowing him to just roll to the basket opening things up for his shooters. Kobe has that midrange game in him and thats why he still keeps on after being hit over and over again. He doesnt need to go to the bucket every play and thats why he is so dangerous.......
Dana Jacobson (10:31 AM)
dale, no . he believes what he says. a very passionate man
Rene (Mesa, AZ)
Dana, why doesnt Skip give Ovechkin a hard time about his showboating after every goal? He hasn't won a Stanley Cup.
Dana Jacobson (10:31 AM)
nice rene
Ruedi (St. Louis)
Guess who retained the title as the most credible voice on steroids? Jose Canseco...he was 90% sure about Manny. When will we stop doubting the this bashed-brother?
Scott (Colorado Springs)
When are we going to realize this is the playoffs, the object is to crush the team you are playing against so they don't want to win. You want them to think they have no chance. You are trying to be the Champions! They aren't making friends on the play ground.
Dana Jacobson (10:32 AM)
ruedi - i think people stopped doubting him with the congressional hearings and mitchell report. still doesn't make him a good guy.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Good point, Keith. Those posters of MJ weren't exactly made in the studio. And how about the shoulder shrug thing? MJ got classier as he faded further and further out of our memories.
Chris (Queens N.Y.)
I have to agree with Skip. Lebron is the MVP and one of the best players in the NBA and you should carry yourself better because you are playing a team that is not on your level. Then again, Lebron could be acting like this because of his opposition in Josh Smith who showboats about as much as anyone. So I would like to think that he is sticking it to Josh for his previous series missed dunk performance that was uncalled for and embarrasing.
Lawrence (Columbus GA)
any professional sports player is an entertainer. that's how they get money -- they please the fans by providing exciting play. i dont see how we can blame him for anything when he is just going out and doing his job. I have a feeling that NO Cav's fans have a problem with what he did...they probably enjoyed it, and so did I.
John, Austin
Michael Jordan was quite possibly the most arrogant player in his generation, for good reason, just like LeBron. He talked more than anyone in the game. If NBA players have a problem with it, maybe they should guard him better.
FrostySmokes (Sarasota)
I hate to say it but I agree with Skip. I love LeBron but he has gotten carried away with all the celebrating. The great one's never needed to resort to streetball type showin off
Kerry (Cleveland, O)
SKIP, He can't hit a game winner when they are blowing teams out without much competition...
Brody: Green Bay WI
I don't have a problem with LeBron doing what he does because he does not direct it at individual players like Kobe turing to Doug Collins or Shane Battier himself and saying "he can't guard me" right to his face
shawn (Tampa,Fl)
lol this is how basketball is play now every where you go Once you on the court you have to show them no mercy so i happy lebron did that so jay please tell skip these is not MJ days
DALE FROM BALTIMORE
JAY SKIP NEEDS TO STOP BEING A OLD FUDDY DUDDY. LEBRON AND THE CAVS ARE A YOUNG TEAM THAT ARE SIMPLY HAVING FUN. ALL GREAT NBA PLAYERS MAKE SOME SORT OF JESTURE AFTER MAKING A GREAT DUNK OR BIG SHOT. WHAT IS SO WRONG WITH SHOWING A LIL SHOWMANSHIP AFTER MAKING A GREAT PLAY...EVERY GREAT PLAYER HAS AND WILL DO IT, SO DONT SINGLE OUT LEBRON
Lori.. Syracuse, NY
Kobe would NEVER showboat like THAT. That's the difference between class and acting like an ass. No wonder young men today act like thugs.
Dana Jacobson (10:34 AM)
lori - they all showboat...duncan maybe the acception
matt wooster oh
skip did you ever stop to think that lebron is returning the favor to the hawks after all they're show-boating and excessive celebrations after beating his good friend dwayne wade
mike (Birmingham,Al)
What, really skip biggest showboat in sports. When you got T.O. eating popcorn, sharpies and dunks on goalposts and all kinds of dancing in the NFL,what King James did was actually nothing.
J.B. Virginia Beach VA
Skip is right. He was show boating while up alot of point over a weaker team. We cant be hipacrits. on one hand r trying to teach kids to respect sports and the integrity of them, but accept that from labron
Kevin (El Paso)
Dale needs to stop yelling.
Scott (Phoenix)
Chris - why should Lebron be held to a higher standard and Kobe Bryant who has played in the league for 13 years not? Kobe was much worse in game 2 against the Rockets then Lebron was last night. Not even comparible.
Dana Jacobson (10:36 AM)
scott, comparing apples to oranges - they both did their own thing, in their own ways. showboating is a part of the game now. like it or not. how do you prevent it - tell your kids not to emulate their heroes...yeah, that doesn't work. guys grew up on this, jay's right, the espn era...
Mike (New Orleans, LA)
I'm with Skip on this one(OH My God), Lebron was really hamming it up last night. If I was on the Hawks, I would have been offended, but I guess its up to them to do something about it. If the Hawks do get a win in Atlanta, especially if its a blowout, it truly will be the Highlight Factory.
Columbus, Ohio
Skip, weren't Michael Jordan and Larry Bird notoriously known for their trash talking, what's the difference? And don't even start with today's Boston Celtics. It's part of the game.
Brody (Green Bay WI)
Does anyone have a problem with Kobe after making a basket when he turns to Doug Collins or Shane Battier and shouts 'he can't guard me!?!?'
charlie(port orchard, wa)
I hate to say that I agree with skip but when I played b-ball we did not act like that and we won the state chapionship. I know that its diffrent than the NBA but still you need to have some class.
Diego (Las Vegas, NV)
The Lebron comments by Skip and Howard are ridiculous. Lebron standing after his amazing 40 foot shot is akin to Michael Jordan shrugging to the television crew after hitting his 3 pointers against Portland. Lebron's celebrations after his basket are nowhere near as disrespectful as Kobe screaming 'he can't guard me' after seemingly every basket in the Houston Rockets game. Lebron plays the game with joy and that's part of the reason why he inspires. Sad that you guys miss the point.
Adam G. Tampa, FL
Umm Chip against Portland Michael Jeffrey turned to the cam and put his hands up like he didn't know his shot was wet.
Rajesh (Atlanta)
I don't see anything wrong with what LeBron is doing and I'm a huge Hawks fan. He's pumping up his team as a vocal leader obviously his team is feeding off of this. I thought it was great when he cheered on Mo Williams when he won that tip. Jordan shot a free throw with his eyes closed and lots of times stuck his tongue out when he dunked.
Michael Jordan (Chicago, IL)
Difference is, ya'll wasn't this good.
Dana Jacobson (10:38 AM)
having sat courtside working for many games, it's a great part of the game to be honest - showboating and trash talking. to me brings a playground element to it. does it get out of hand - yes, but like TD celebrations, i'm all for it. Sorry. Maybe its a bad message for kids, can't help it. keep it under some control. to be honest watched hockey last night not lebron...but some degree of showboating - just fine in my book. Not on every basket or tackle, but you know
Moderator (10:38 AM)
Nick from Scranton just submitted War and Peace to the chat...he's banned from posts until he gets to the point
Aj (Charleston)
Dana, right now LeBron is doing what he wants on anyone he wants, thats a right!
Ruedi (St. Louis)
Dana, Jose Canseco was getting grilled for not being 100% positive about his assumptions of Manny. Brian Burwell was one of them!
Michael (Jackson, MS)
Here's the difference...There wasn't a single parent in my generation who had a problem with their kid growing up and playing like Jordan...with Lebron, most parents today would be pissed if their kid showboated like that in a junior league basketball game.
Jay Crawford (10:39 AM)
i agreee with the room. lebron is doing his thing. i'll know showboating when i see it.
Kevin, Cleveland
I believe that criticism of lebrons celbrating may be overblown. This is a guys who put in a tremendous amount of work to improve his individual game as well as his team's game. With the time an effort he has put in and the results that the cavs have achieved so far I do not have a problem with him having fun while he is out on the floor. His intensity and love for the game (as a team sport) is something that you wish all NBA players had. He gets just as excited when the bench players do something good as well as when he makes a 40 foot jump shot. He is a true teammate and he has the abitlity to balance fun with business. He is having a great time with his team, while at the same time instilling a defensive intensity that has big Z diving on the floor. Until he wins the rings he wont ever be validated in the eyes of many, but it is nice to see and NBA player enjoying the game as it should be enjoyed. -Kevin-
Dana Jacobson (10:39 AM)
Ruedi, even with all this, i don't think jose knows all that he's talking about. i do think he's made some assumptions. i'd give him a 90-95% accurracy..but he was vindicated long ago
Nick Gelso (Scranton, Pa)
Columbus, you're obviously too young to remember Larry Legend or M.J. Yes, they talked trash but never lacked class. Larry talked trash with his mouth closed for crying out loud!!! haha. Part of Bird's legend is you can never see all the trash talking he was doing. Boy o Boy, Bird could BAG HIS TRASH TOO!
Dana Jacobson (10:40 AM)
nick, it really is a different era. its all about sportscenter highlights
Moderator (10:43 AM)
2nd down coming up: Good idea for Pitino to coach the Kings?
Ruedi (St. Louis)
Dana, give me one instance he has been incorrect? He is a shady individual and has betrayed us with his own disrespect of the game..however..he deserves a 100% up to this point. Seriously..give me one instance?
Tony ( Harlem NY)
Boy Now I hope for a Rocket's / Cavs Final's I know for sure Prince James will not pull those shenanigans on Ron Artest, Boy I wish Bill Laimbeer , or rick mahorn and rodman were playing against the Prince in this series.
Brian (Michigan)
Bad idea for Pitino. Why would he want to coach a team that probably has the least talent in the NBA. Stick with college, Pitino.
Dana Jacobson (10:46 AM)
Ruedi i read his book what was it 4 years ago? I don't remember all the names he listed but i have a problem listing names without proof and he would list guys that he "heard about" not witnessed doing steroids or had proof of... I have an issue with that but again i believe there are names in his book that have never been found guilty of doing steroids. It doesn't take away from what he does know...
Tyler (Austin, Tx)
Q:When was the last time A-Rod performed well under pressure? A: Never
Dana Jacobson (10:47 AM)
Tyler maybe all the pressure's off him now b/c the focus is on manny
Michael Kim (10:47 AM)
Happy Friday, everyone.
Jeff (Ohio)
Dana you say passionate, I say delusional. I used to like Skip, but even when he's got everyone against him he just shuts up with that smug look on his face. Jay said it best a day or two ago, "I'm Skip Bayless and I WATCH THE GAMES, no one else does, I know more than EVERYONE combined." He's a joke.
Dana Jacobson (10:48 AM)
Jeff maybe that's skip showboating!!!
Kenny, Richmond, Va
Rick Pitino? It depends on if the the Kings organization has the patience to stick with him and let him get the players he needs to succeed. And vice versa, Pitino needs to have some patience and not run back to where he belongs, as a coach in college basketball.
Dana Jacobson (10:48 AM)
Kenny I would think kings have the money and ...but its tough to come into the league from cbb and start from scratch. No one has patience!!!
Alex (Cleveland)
If LeBron wins a ring this year, will Skip be out of a job?
Adam G. Tampa, FL
Although Michael Jeffrey could have been doing that do to the fact that Portland passed on him in the Draft.
Phalo (Bloomington, IN) [via mobile]
Skip, you have such an issue with LeBron's showboating but what about Kobe repeatedly telling everyone "He can't guard me", when playing against Shane Battier the other night? And let's not forget Wade jumping on the scorers table yelling, "This is my house!" You didn't have a problem with that.
Lawrence (Columbus GA)
Yeah, I'm a younger viwer and unfortunately didnt get the oppertunity to watch Larry Legend, and only caught the last few years of the MJ era, but like Dana has said: it's all about the sportscenter highlights.
Jonathan (Atlanta, GA)
Jay & Dana, I agree, somewhat, with what you say about it being a generational thing. But it will be interesting to see if LeBron does that next round or in the Finals (if they make it that far). I don't remember LeBron doing any showboating last year against the Celtics in the eastern conference finals.
JR (Ohio)
I'm with Skip to a certain extent. No I don't think Lebron should be doing anything and everything after every shot and even on the bench. But to say he's the biggest showboater ever is absolutely absurd. Chad Johnson, Michael Irvin, and Terrel Owens not only celebrated flamboyantly when they scored touchdowns they almost always do some sort of dance even when they make first downs!
Michael Kim (10:49 AM)
Did anyone notice Carlos Pena hit another HR last night? I took some grief over saying he's a feared hitter right now.
Kerry (Cleveland, O)
Plus, LeBron is calling the Hawks out. He's trying to get some competition going to get the Cavs ready for the next round and the Hawks are trying to figure out what they will be doing Next TUESDAY.
Kevin (St.pete, FL.)
With Labron, The before the game stuff is even worse to me. Act like an adult and just do your job!
Rene (Mesa, AZ)
TGIF Michae! It's finally here!
Chris: East Lansing, MI
Jordan never showboated? Are you kidding. What about the tongue wagging on every dunk? What about shooting free throws with his eyes closed? Shrugging his shoulders to the T.V. guys on his way down court. Jordan showboated more than anyone else in his era.
Dana Jacobson (10:50 AM)
Jonathan, I like some of the hawks players and i'm sure i'll take heat for saying this...maybe the hawks haven't given lebron much to respect and he his dissin them?
Cory, Columbus, OH
Pitino needs to stay in Louisville to re-spark that rivalry with Kentucky now that Calipari is there.
Scott (Phoenix)
Dana - I am ok with the showboating and trash talking. I just don't think Lebron should get singled out when other great players in the league do the exact same thing
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
One nice thing about the LeBron/MJ celebration topic: We haven't mentioned Manny or Brett Favre in quite a while.
Val (Garden City KS)
I agree with Skip on the whole LeBron James Showboating. James is a role model so he should act like one.
Jay Crawford (10:50 AM)
great point johnny!
lawrence stowe vt
ruedi if you are talking about jose being wrong remember he backed roger clemins as being clean
Moderator (10:51 AM)
3rd down... will the Dodgers be in first place when Manny returns? Does Houston win Game 3 vs. the Lakers now that Derek Fisher is out? Can the Magic win game 3 without Rafer Alston?
Dana Jacobson (10:52 AM)
lawrence, here on the set we don't remember jose saying he was clean but that he complimented clemens in the book. michael kim and i are talknig right now and don't remember a clean reference.
Jay (Houston, Tx.)
Skip says he likes and understands Lil Wayne, but he needs to understand what Swagger is. Basketball falls under the heading of SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT, and over the last 10 years, the two entities have become less seperate and more entertwined. Just enjoy it, and as any athlete will tell you, if you don't want someone to celebrate, PLAY DEFENSE AND STOP THEM.
Ali, Staten Island, NY
Dana why would the Hawks be dissing him? If they are they would be very dumb to do that. After all he is the MVP.
Michael Kim (10:52 AM)
Rene... Yes it is. Lookin' forward to a good weekend of watching sports -- good NBA and NHL playoff action.
Dana Jacobson (10:52 AM)
ali, lebron's dissing them.
Aaron (Denver)
Michael, 13 homeruns a great hitter does not make...yoda is a stud.
Jeff (Ohio)
Michael, it ain't about being feared when you're hot, it's about being feared when you're not.
Dana Jacobson (10:53 AM)
jeff, i like that!
Rob (Tallahassee, Fla.)
3rd down = No, and Manny won't save the season once he's off (whatever) juice. Houston takes Lakers to 7th game. Magic couldn't beat the Cavs even if the had the "young" Shaq
Aaron (Denver)
Pitino needs to just coach and not concentrate on GM duties. Look at his time with the Knicks vs. the Celtics
Aj (Charleston)
No Alex, he will just say that the rings were too big, had too much bling, and were unprofessional.
Devone (Long Beach CA)
In addition to my last comment, contrary to popular belief, Lebron often does get a pass. Its funny how his antics and the antics of his teammates during blow out victories are seen as comical and fun, but when T.O. celebrates or Ocho Cinco celebrates, they are a fungus to the game. The world embraces who they want to embrace and chastise who they want to chastise. Its unfair to other players that are looked at as showboats, when Jay Crawford says Lebron is only having fun, but calls T.O. a cancer to the game. And it isnt just Jay that says this. Almost all analysts and most of these chat memebers now have said it.
Bill (Oklahoma City, OK)
That NL West is so weak the Dodgers will still have the lead in July. Manny is good but one person doesn't make a team, they have good pitching too.
LeBum James (Staples Center in the nosebleeds)
I concur with skip 100%. Somebody (The Lakers) will put him and that sideshow they call the Cavs in their place, provided they make it past the Magic or the C's in the ECF and expose them for the clowns they are. Be humble and play ball dude.
HOUSTON TEXAS
THIS LEBRON DEBATE. IS THE MAIN REASONS WE NEED MORE YOUNG SPORT WRITERS.WHO UNDERSTAND TODAY ATHLETES. THE ATHLETES ARE GETTING YOUNGER. THE OLD SPORTS WRITERS JUST DONT UNDERSTAND THEM. PEOPLE ON THE SHOW ARE QUICK TO SAY LEBRON NOT MICHAEL JORDAN. SO WHY IS SKIP COMPARING HIM TO MICHAEL JORDAN EVERY CHANCE HE GETS
K. Wildcat (Lawrenceville, NJ)
I think that Rick Pitino's coaching style is not for the NBA. He will not be able to get through to guys making millions of dollars as an unproven coach. The respect factor will not be there and that's a big part of being a successful coach.
Ali, Staten Island NY
I dont think LA will stay in first but I dont think they will drop dramatically. Torre has a young team with solid pitching plus they play good defense.
Matt(New Britain,CT)
pitino has a good thing going at Louisville, why test out the waters where he hasn't been successful before?
Adam G. Tampa, FL
The Dodgers will be in 2nd place when Manny returns, then Manny will go on a tear and get them back in first.
Michael Kim (10:54 AM)
Aaron... Carlos Pena is a stud. He's been on the radar for several years. His OBP and SLG have been outstanding. Fantasy baseball owners know what I mean.
Lew **Chicago**
Skippy your best line ever "King with no Rings". But relax on the posing and entertainment factor in sports. Sports is entertainment after all or it use to be atleast.
Dana Jacobson (10:55 AM)
Devone, First i'm not sure that jay has called TO a cancer - skip has. Second, you're right we all choose who we give a pass to, but winning helps. When TO and ocho cinco were winning, people laughed at their stuff. Truth be told, i've always laughed. I think its good for the game. How they are or are not in a locker room is different and what leads more people to call TO a cancer, not his showboating celebrations
Nick Gelso (Scranton, Pa)
Dana, I think you are right in some regards but I think education and life experience has something to do with it as well. M.J. attend some college and won a national title and Olympic Gold medal before his rookie year. Larry-Legend had the experience of LOSING in the NCAA Finals to Magic and LArry GRADUATED college. Life experience = maturity! I just don't buy all this "Sportscenter highlights" fully. PLUS - tell the guys that I agreed with Skip!!!
Lawrence (Columbus GA)
Im sorry if this is against the rules, but I cant help but restate your comment Dana. "Dana Jacobson: (10:40 AM ET ) nick, it really is a different era. its all about sportscenter highlights" Ironic that we are currently supporting this statement by posting here ^_^. Oh, and i cant wait to see how percy harvin does in the NFL. Best return man in the league, or what?
Michael Kim (10:55 AM)
Speaking of fantasy baseball... I just activated my new third baseman -- a guy named Alex Rodriguez. (Kudos to Mark Reynolds of the D-Backs for filling the void.)
Rob (Tallahassee, Fla.)
Skip's just peeved he can't make fun of LeBron's 3-pt. percentage any more.....lol
Rene (Mesa, AZ)
I saw Pena. I also saw Longoria had 2 blasts. Have him and Youk on my Fantasy team. Woo Hoo!!!!
Jay Crawford (10:56 AM)
congrats lebron, skip has moved off your game.
bruce (evanston wy)
come on jay, dana, and skip i know after a good show you three go back and fist pump or chest bump .
Aj (Charleston)
Skip, you will always say a word. He didnt call glass, his feet werent in the right position, his release was off, you would find SOMETHING.
Rusty, Iowa
Skip is wrong. I love what LeBron is doing. It keeps it interesting and its an entertainment business.
Dana Jacobson (10:56 AM)
Lawrence, too true. I mean imagine 10 years ago chatting for hours about sports and highlights, etc...
Brian (Michigan)
Jay Crawford didn't you challenge Tim Duncan to a fight? Oh wait that was Joey Crawford, are you related? If so, tell him to retire.
Jay Crawford (10:57 AM)
lol! no im not...
Tyler (Tuscaloosa, AL)
I am 20 years old, i grew up in the "ESPN era" just as LeBron did, and i disagree with blaming LeBron's antics on a change in culture. In my opinion he is just acting immature, and child like out there. The difference between Jordan's celebration's and LeBron's celebrations is that Jordan's were more emotional, while LeBron's are just to bring all the attention to him. If he continues to celebrate after every basket then we should change his name from King James to The Court Jester James because he is acting like a clown out there.
Aaron (Denver)
Michael, I know Pena is a stud, but your argument is/was most Feared hitter in the game. I would be willing to bet he is not the most feard hitter in his line up...See Evan Longoria...and yes I play fantasy baseball
Dana Jacobson (10:57 AM)
Tyler, my only question is how do you know it's not emotional to him. Everyone has a different level of emotion when the play.
Nick Gelso (Scranton, PA)
Pitino, stay away from the NBA. You're a iconic college coach. Better yet, Kings - Stay away from Pitino! Pitino returning to the NBA just reminds us of the dark ages you sent the Celtics into. 22 years of Championship drought!
Tre Baltimore MD
Everybody who likes baseball wake up all the best players are on steroids or were on steroids.
Michael Kim (10:58 AM)
Aaron. That's not what I said. Go back and read. Unless I "misremembered", I said I go with Pujols overall but that RIGHT NOW Pena is putting fear in AL pitchers.
Atit (Philadlephia, PA)
Jay and Dana, people are just hating on A-Rod because of the whole steroid issue. He can still swing and hit the ball and at this point he is only going to help the Yankees.
Rene (Mesa, AZ)
Michael... Mark Reynolds is the new Whiff King. Before last night he had 36 K's in 102 AB's I think it was...
Marcus (Baltimore, MD)
Skip a moment ago tried to make a point about Dwayne Wade never celebrating. Well is running up to your home crowd and standing on the announcers table and yelling "This Is My House" not celebrating and disrespectful. Why doesn't anyone say anything about KG when he bangs his chest and talks trash all game to the opponent but when LeBron does it, its a problem???
Michael Kim (10:59 AM)
Rene - I know. The K's are killing him but when he makes contact... look out!
Adam G. Tampa, FL
Mike Kim go look up my fantasy team AdamGriffith99LA we'd beat your team lol
Dana Jacobson (10:59 AM)
Atit, I think its more the lack of post season production for arod
Michael Kim (11:01 AM)
Adam... My team is struggling with injuries! ARod, Vlad, Ankiel, Duchsherer, Posada. Thanks to Adrian Gonzalez,Robby Cano and Ryan Franklin for trying to keep me afloat.
Ray, Tucson, AZ
I have to agree with Skip, Lebron needs to cool his jets, hes celebrating after making shots against a team down two starters that they are supposed to be clobbering anyway. Wheres Rafer Alston when you need him to slap some sense into Lebron.
EDB(Seattle)
what ever happened to act like you've been there before?
Michael Kim (11:03 AM)
EDB - wish there were more players who felt that way, too.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
I don't know how you Fantasy Baseball people do it. That's too big a time commitment for me. Fantasy Football is about all I can handle.
Michael Kim (11:07 AM)
Johnny... It's not that bad. Think about it. You check your fantasy football team everyday and there's only Sun and Thurs from Sept-Jan. You do the same, tweak the lineup and go on with your day. It's not that time consuming. PLUS, for me, a great benefit so that I can put Aaron in his place with Carlos Pena stats! LOL - just a joke, Aaron.
Aaron (Denver)
Johnny, Fantasy baseball consumes 15 minutes a day...it's really not that bad, I had your same thoughts before I started.
Thompson (Indianapolis IN)
Being a college coach I hate seeing these NBA players act like this. The players talk about this in the locker room and try to plan things out to act like these guys. Just play the game and stop acting, if these are emotional reactions and they need to act like this to be a great player than they will never be the best ever or even rank up there with the top guys because you don't need that in order to be great. I can't even imagine what it would be like with young kids.
Dana Jacobson (11:08 AM)
Thompson, curious - I see little kids doing this at 7, 8. Do your guys not?
Michael Kim (11:08 AM)
Aaron - we agree on something??? Hey, I can't get Dexter Fowler to do anything for me since his 5 sb game
Rene (Mesa, AZ)
Lakers lose game 3 w/o their veteran PG. He should know better than to make that kind of mistake in the playoffs and hurt his team.
Ronnie (Laurel, DE)
Did you ever see Magic, Worthy, Kareem, and Cooper gather around Bryon Scott on the court and pretend to start a fire after Scott hit a couple of shots. Lebron and the Cavs have taken it a little too far.
bruce (evanston wy)
i think if a team signs a player to a 15 + mil a year deal and they find out that they are using drugs of any kind they should be able to void the deal dont you think?
Jamie (York, PA)
that's because i picked fowler up in my league Michael
Michael Kim (11:10 AM)
Jamie, I hope that guy hasn't peaked already.
shawn (tampa,fl)
with all these big stars gettin caught dont u think Ken Griffey Jr is the best hitter after Hank Aaron ??
Paul (Allentown)
Michael Kim, I have one of friend's brother going to the Zoo to play football. He is a receiver his name is Jaleel Clark and he is represent for you lol
Moderator (11:11 AM)
there are guys by the names: Willie Mays, Frank Robinson, that might argue that, shawn
Zen Master (chicago, IL)
Kobe with a double nickel & a W tonight...you heard it here first. We're winning this one for Fish FREE FISH!!!!!
Moderator (11:13 AM)
can you free fish fur lunch? I'm hungry
Thomas (Trinidad)
Skip, i totally agree with you. When you are the face of the NBA showing off during a game is very immature. When Micheal, Kobe , DWade did it it was at the end of the game where most times they hit a game winner. All out of emotion
Michael Kim (11:13 AM)
Paul, is he the real deal? I know he's tall. If he can catch and run -- I mean, RUN! -- then he'll get a chance. Mizzou has a bunch of 6-2 to 6-5 WRs. The competition will be stiff.
Anthony (Bel Air, MD)
Jay, Dana, and anybody else that thinks unsporstman like conduct like show boating is an evolutionary part of the culture of sports now is simply kidding themselves. Without getting into psychology too much, its simply a matter of knowing the difference of right and wrong. Parents and coaches are supposed to instill humility and respect into the kids that play the games we love. Lebron obviously didnt learn those lessons.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Shawn apparently thinks the Major Leagues did not begin before 1950.
Aaron (Denver)
Michael Kim, I like Fowler...wait for it...wait for it...he has tremendouse upside.
Benny B (Miami Beach, FL)
Skip is right about Wade, Tony Parker, and Duncan, they have class and would never conduct themselves the way King James did. That being said, I don't have a problem with Lebron showboating because his amazing play overshadows that for me. But, if he wants to be in the same sentence as Jordan, he needs to be more mature, and show more class.
Aaron (Denver)
In MLB once a suspension takes place can the player be in/around the locker room?
Michael Kim (11:17 AM)
Aaron... I'm trying to be patient. I also have Colby Rasmus. Trying to be patient there. Two young players with good on-base percentages.
Dana Jacobson (11:17 AM)
Aaron, double checking but i think its like nba not allowed to be around the team, lockerroom or in this case clubhouse. if i'm wrong will post it
Kevin (Cleveland)
Manny is allowed to practice with the team, but not travel
Dana Jacobson (11:18 AM)
kevin, thanks like i said we are double checking right now..
Anthony (Bel Air, MD)
Also Tiger Woods was mentioned. The difference between him pumping his fist when me makes a big shot and Lebron is that Tiger is just celebrating. Lebron is rubbing it in his opponents face with his antics. Now if Tigers sinks a putt next weekend and drops his club and throws his hands in the air and starts pounding his chest and pointing to the camera, then Ill shut up.
Kerry (Cleveland, O)
Can Manny go to Japan and Play?
Dana Jacobson (11:19 AM)
Kerry no - he'd have to be waived
Benny B (Miami Beach, FL)
I do have a huge problem with role players like Eddie House acting like a maniac after every shot. I mean come on Eddie, all you can do is shoot 3's!
Cab, Houston,Tx
Lebron James is the mvp and against an inferior team there should be a level of respect given. Would he do this to the Black mambas team in The Finals? (in future tense) I agree with Skip. You dont do it. you dont showboat to that degree that Lebron showed last night. And to say its part of the culture now is just a pass.
John, Austin
Dana, I've got a 6 year playing tball. I think it sucks when he asks who the best player in baseball is I have to explain to him what an asterick means.
Dana Jacobson (11:20 AM)
John, a friend of mine Mark Kriedler wrote an interesting article on this let me get the link
Jeff (Ohio)
There's a simple solution to this: You don't want LeBron and the Cavs to celebrate?? Stop them. They're annihilating teams, winning by 20+ with LeBron only playing 3 quarters. He wouldn't be celebrating in a close game. He's BORED. You're Pistons and Hawks are a joke to him. A shamockery really.
Dana Jacobson (11:21 AM)
here you go john http://markkreidler.com/blog/
Robert (Seattle)
Dana; yeah 7 & eight! Great comparison! LOL
Michael Kim (11:22 AM)
Jeff ... There is definitely some truth to your post. Stop them and they can't celebrate. Kind of reminds me of those who say things about running up the score in football. The defense's job is to stop the offense. No offense ever practices plays they think will be unsuccessful or lose yardage by design.
Dana Jacobson (11:23 AM)
Robert, coming in and out i get lost...is this my comparison of those kids showboating? Actually i'm not saying lebons acting like a 7 or 8 year old, i'm saying they learn at that age as lebron probably did in our 24-7 media era
R Mom (Spring Valley, NY)
Benny B (Miami Beach, FL)(great locale), Correction all Eddie House can do is shoot 3's while making millions!
Chad (Las Vegas)
Skip went to Vandy. He has no idea what celebrating is like.
Chris, IL
john...you dont have to explain to him what an asterisk is...just tell him albert pujols
Dana Jacobson (11:23 AM)
Chris you know the scary thing is now so many people are just waiting to hear something about pujols
Luis(houston) [via mobile]
Sorry John Ireland ur team aint ready 4 us at home they almost got wupped twice at home!!!! And 2 think they can come in and beat us. Dnt make me laugh!!! Kobe cant carry da hole team like he did in MSG.
John, Austin
Thanks Dana, you rock!!!
Dana Jacobson (11:24 AM)
Sure thing !
Brian (Michigan)
As a kid on the playground you never worry about running up the score, you keep scoring touchdowns and knocking down shots until it's time to go home.
Scott (Holland, MI)
Dana, I agree with about 90% of what Skip has to say on a daily basis, however, I explicitly remember occasions with Jordan showboating.. i.e. the closed eyes free throw! But LeBron is going too far now! Oh, & if you ever get to the Grand Rapids area.. I'll take you out to dinner!
Dana Jacobson (11:25 AM)
Scott, maybe it's a case of if you like lebron you think its ok...if you're not a huge fan you have more problem with it??? not sure....
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Dana: Waiting to hear or starting to research something on Pujols?
Dana Jacobson (11:25 AM)
johnny, just the natural discussion. ok, he's the last clean great hitter and then everyone goes is he clean? not based on fact, just being sports fans and doubting all of the bigs
jthomp (stl,mo)
antics are entertainment entertainment entertainment
CULI ACCARDO (DAYTONA)
Y AREN'T MY COMMENTS BEING POSTED??
Dana Jacobson (11:26 AM)
culi they are now....they're flying in folks be patient sorry
Danny Williams (Tracy,California)
I would like to see analyst choose their words wisely. To say Ron Artest went nuts the other night is NUTS... Had he gone nuts he would have hit Kobe. Had the refs actually made the correct call we wouldn't even be talking about that play. It annoys me to no end when I hear people make comments like that.
Michael Kim (11:26 AM)
Have to agree with Skip here -- D-Backs made their move to fire Bob Melvin to send a msg and spark an underachieving team to make a run with Manny out of LA until July.
Dana Jacobson (11:27 AM)
Danny, John was being honest with how it was phrased in LA on sports talk radio...if you listen to sports talk, grant napear, jim kozimor or any of the bay area guys you know what sports talk can get like. John's one of the best, i appreciate his insight
Marv (New Orleans)
But some antics get OLD AND BORING, and take away from the TRUE excitement of the game!!!!!
Marie (Trotwood, OH)
what about when ovechkin does it in hockey? Is that ok according to skip. He has been called the savior of hockey and won nothing either...
Rene (Mesa, AZ)
Brian, he's not a kid on the playground. He's a PRO Athlete so conduct yourself like one. All eyes are on you especially young ones.
Aaron (Denver)
Most Athletes who celebrate simply have not won (Lebron, White Shoes Johnson...), and they don't even understand "why" it is perceived as classless. Winning may/should bring this understanding to Lebron.
Devone (LBC CA)
So BOREDOM is an excuse to be an idiot??? That makes no sense JEFF FROM OHIO. If thats the case, then all it takes is for one player to just knock him on his butt and show him that will not be acceptable. Atlanta needs to show some heart and defend their pride. STOP LAYING DOWN FOR THIS SHOWBOATER
Kevin (El Paso)
celtics/magic = BORING!
Aj (Charleston)
Whoever says that LeBron isnt mature has never sat down and listened to his interviews, the dude is 24 and more mature than half the players that went to college, weak arguement.
Dana Jacobson (11:29 AM)
kevin aren't you at all impressed that the celtics are getting by without garnett and after getting beat up?
Jay Crawford (11:29 AM)
agreed. he's 24. mature waaay behind his years
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Oh come on! All guys in hockey celebrate goals in a big way. It's part of the fun of hockey. I mean I'm a Pens fan and because of it can't stand Ovie but he's just having fun.
Becky (Keller, Texas)
Hi Dana Jacobson & Michael Kim, Where do you think NFL Referee Ed Hochuli Ranks with the all time Greats who were a White Hat/Referee in the NFL? I would rank him in the top 3 as an official.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
I wish the Braves would do something drastic. I know Bobby has had a nice run but his time has come and gone. They need a spark in Atlanta.
Dana Jacobson (11:30 AM)
Becky, never really thought about it but outside of last year - i always thought of him as one of the best. down year, we all have him. he's chatting i think later on dot com...noon maybe, 1230?
sf (Cleveland)
Skip needs to understand the way the game has evolved since Jordon's day. When Labron was a senior in high school the high school playoff were in Toledo, OH and the game sold out in hours because he would be turning pro and the tickets were $7 or $8 bucks. He has lived with this expetations of greatness. He has growen up in a society that swag and showboating is the way. I saw it in Ohio high school's since the early 90's. These are the times. ESPN needs to send Skip to a live game. The Cavs have ONE GOAL for a hungry city.
Dana Jacobson (11:30 AM)
and as you know sf, cleveland is hungry for any excitement it can get!
Jonathan (Atlanta, GA)
Hey Jay & Dana, when is Skip going to join us on the chat?
Dana Jacobson (11:30 AM)
jonathan, he preps for each down after the last and can't chat during the show. sorry
FrostySmokes (Sarasota)
Man, we can't get any hockey talk at all?
Dana Jacobson (11:31 AM)
frosty - go ahead....
Becky (Keller, Texas)
Yes Dana Jacobson,, I am Ed Hochuli's #1 Fan in Texas!!! Please Laugh. I have over 17 Autographs from him.
Dana Jacobson (11:31 AM)
becky he's got some guns!
Drew (Buffalo)
Been to Cleveland, a lot to get excited about there, 60 bars in almost walking distance?! hello!!!
Dana Jacobson (11:32 AM)
drew, spoken i believe like a true buffaloan, from what i've been told
Paul (Denver)
As a Cubs fan, I'd love to see Pujols fall as well. It's kind of a bad thing to say/think, but certainly baseball has deceived us fans for too long.
Dana Jacobson (11:32 AM)
paul, what if he's clean?
Dana Jacobson (11:32 AM)
most people believe ken griffey is...there have to be some out there
Josh D. (Milwaukee,WI)
Isn't it strange how the info on Manny comes out the day after they go 13-0? hmmm. MLB had this news but let him get away with playing the rest of that homestand for ratings and the fact that the Dodgers would have a greater chance to go undefeated if he was in the line up. What do u think guys?
Dana Jacobson (11:33 AM)
Josh, as much as i'm all for slamming leagues that do things for pr...he was in the process of tryingn to appeal, the decided not to. you can question the timing, i don't. they would have kept him till LA hit the road if they were controlling it
Chad (Las Vegas)
60 bars in walking distance? HA LV has 200 in stumbling distance and NO has 500 in crawling distance.
Kendall (Boston)
i agree with you josh it is strange how the mlb realesed it after the winning steak
Dana Jacobson (11:35 AM)
kendall and josh - the streak was still going, it only ended AFTER manny went out...its not a conspiracy
Kerry (Cleveland, O)
Chad, I love Vegas but they don't have the Bars Cleveland has in concentration. It isn't even close...
JOHN MCLEOD (west melbourne florida)
Drew, buffalo transplant here and miss the northeast pubs and corner gin mills.
Mychal (Vancouver WA)
Josh, they still had another home game they would have waited till they were on the road
Dana Jacobson (11:36 AM)
Mychal - great minds
Rod (Milwaukee)
I keep hearing Sammy Sosa's name. Did he ever test positive for anything. I remember the corked bat thing, but never a positive test.
Dana Jacobson (11:37 AM)
rod, nope...never a positive test from what i remember
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Just remember: There Ain't No Party Like a Scranton Party!
Dana Jacobson (11:37 AM)
missed last night don't say anything, it's on teh dvr
Tristan (Palm Bay FL)
is there any word as to when we might actually hear from Manny. . .live , not his statment
Dana Jacobson (11:37 AM)
tristan, no but i'm sure someones trying to get an interview
Robert (California)
i have a strong feeling that manning was on the list of players that came out in the mitchell report and mlb is slowly throwing them under the bus but making it look like they busted them on something else ... it does seem logical .... seeing is how mlb said they would not release all the names ... we have many years of this to come .... mlb seems to be avg 1-2 players a year ... so at this rate we have many many many years of this steroid thing
Dana Jacobson (11:38 AM)
robert, the mitchell report was made public. we already saw those names.
Drew (Buffalo)
John, we miss you too, hopefully you are in Florida doing bigger and better things as most Buffalonians do. I'm heading down to Chip tonight, i'll have a few pints for ya!
Dana Jacobson (11:38 AM)
drew and john glad we could hook you up
Michael Kim (11:39 AM)
Becky, I've never took the time to rank refs but I like him. You must be related to him.
joe (atlanta)
well if not for the braves trading their young talent.saltyamachia millwood dye laroche etc.... they might have a good ball club \
Herm (Ohio)
I Think this could damge the rest of Ramirez's career. Nobody is goona want him
Marv (New Orleans)
I'm starting my 12 yr. old daughter in softball, and she's juicing already. Mango/peach is her favorite!!!!
Michael Kim (11:42 AM)
Marv, turn her on to acai. It's great for energy.
Becky (Keller, Texas)
Hi Michael Kim, No I am not related to Ed Hochuli. I have just been a FAN of Ed Hochuli since around 1994. Before the Internet!!!! I also heard the announcers say his name & said to myself -- "How do you Spell Hochuli"!!!!
Adam G. Tampa, FL
You gotta love that sound after a hockey goal is scored!
joe (atlanta)
What do you expect from a 24 year old 100 million dollar punk(Lebron James).
Dana Jacobson (11:47 AM)
joe, you can say what you want, this is not someone i would call a punk. sorry
Mychal (Vancouver WA)
No way penguins are gunna win, alex the great will not let that happen,.. Capitals in 6!
Brian (Michigan)
Sounds more like Becky has a crush on Ed Hochuli.
Aaron (Denver)
Is there a better uniform in sports than the Blackhawks sweater...if you don't believe me as Barry.
Dana Jacobson (11:48 AM)
well aaron, you know i'm biased - red wings sweater
paul (west palm beach fl)
I still think Bud Selig new more then he claims about steroids but let it go as baseball was going down the tubes before the Sosa- Mguire hr race.
Dana Jacobson (11:48 AM)
paul i agree 100%....
joe (atlanta)
your right i am sorry, I am a frustrated atlanta sports fan
Dana Jacobson (11:49 AM)
joe, that's ok...been there. used to say it about jordan all the time...then in sac, malone. thanks for being man enough to admit it!!!
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Just for equal time: Penguins sweater with a big ol 87 on the back.
Aaron (Denver)
Becky just say it...you love the arms...First Down
Dana Jacobson (11:49 AM)
johnny, had an ex who was a pens fan, so sorry, they're disqualified
Ali (Staten Island, NY )
Paul, Selig knew what was going on for a while but could not do anything because of the union!
Dana Jacobson (11:50 AM)
Ali, i think that's a cop out. Had selig gone to the media at the time and said this is going on but the union wont budge...trust me, the media would have run with it and the same pressure that was placed on the union at the congressional hearings would have come earlier. it's a cop out
Robert (California)
dana you are a sacramento fan ?
Dana Jacobson (11:51 AM)
robert when i worked in sac - the better the kings did, the more fun i got to have in coverage. Plus i got to know the folks well and wanted them to succeed. BUT i've been gone awhile now. love the maloofs, geoff petrie's a good guy.
Lawrence (Columbus GA)
pretty insane softball player...wow
Tristan (Palm Bay FL)
move over albert, that girl is "the machine"
Kendall (Boston)
how do you like the pats chances this year?
Dana Jacobson (11:52 AM)
kendall i know it gets old, but you ahve to like them, getting brady back. favorites in the afc east i think.
Matt(New Britain,CT)
think we've found our next jennie finch
Aaron (Denver)
I'm telling you, Dana, ask Barry. He gave a great answer last week on how badly he would like to wear the sweater...for the record I grew up a 45 min. drive from Chicago.
Dana Jacobson (11:53 AM)
aaron, its a great sweater but i can never go against my wings. I like the classic bruins though too
Mychal (Vancouver WA)
Since everyone hates on skip, i wanna go on record and say that Skip is awesome! gotta love Skip Bayless in the morning and just about everything he says is real and true! no doubt skip! but that music video that you had when wayne was on the show was pretty wack.. but you know your sports!
Kendall (Boston)
i love tom brady randy moss and the defense just needs a boost
Dana Jacobson (11:54 AM)
defense got a boost with draft and free agents. actually addressed some of the age issues
Mychal (Vancouver WA)
Dana, How do you feel about the Eagles this year after they got those offensive weapons in the draft? you think they got the NFC East?
Dana Jacobson (11:55 AM)
mychal one of the best drafts withotu a doubt. Should again be such a tough division...i say head to head with the giants. both clubs wondering if a young receiver can be the difference. Not sure which i'd pick right now...
Mahdi (Columbus, OH)
The question is will Tom Brady be the same?
Dana Jacobson (11:55 AM)
Mahdi - don't know obviously. a lot of folks are saying he needs 2 full years to come back to form. but you just never know. b/c of the system i dont think he even needs to be the same as he was. if that makes sense.
JD (CHT)
NFC East is all Cowboys
Dana Jacobson (11:56 AM)
really JD? i'd put them last in the division right now...ouch i know.
Ali (Staten Island, NY )
If you look at the AFC east other than the pats you have a lot of young teams still building, so it has to be a cake walk for the pats.
Dana Jacobson (11:58 AM)
ali not a cake walk. the bills are a big questin mark. couldn't get a win within the division last year but who knows what the TO factor will be and a healthy trent. jets defense remarkably better but a question mark on offense with the receivers and either stafford or clemens. dolphins, you want to see if they can repeat what they did...not slump. but i dont think a cake walk. all the teams improved i think. dolphins maybe the least but they're building on waht they had
JD (CHT)
that hurts, but watch out for my boys!!!!!
Dana Jacobson (11:58 AM)
sorry jd....but i'll admit if i'm wrong
Scott (Holland, MI)
If Romo does well... Cowboys hands down! I think Eli is still a fluke, McNabb has his moments but in the end Cowboys are stacked, hopefully the D will step it up is my only concern!
Dana Jacobson (12:02 PM)
scott giants have been about their defense and will continue to be. let's see what hakeem nicks can do too on offense
rob (redondo beach ca)
awesome celebration dance more emotion from mike kim though dissapointed babyboi
Dana Jacobson (12:02 PM)
rob, we caught him off guard...someone sent the suggestino in and i whispered it to jay 2 secnods b/f we came back
Umor (detroit mi)
Great showboating Jay and Dana. I gotta go. have a great weekend. GO WINGS.
bruce (evanston wy)
see i called it but you all went with the hand slap instead
Denise (Phoenix, Arizona)
Perfect end to the show!!!!
paul (west palm beach fl)
what the heck no replay of the show today?
Dana Jacobson (12:03 PM)
sorry paul, happens sometimes!
Jeff (Blacksburg, VA)
Typical cowboys fan, Romo has never done anything and you call eli a fluke, you dont win the super bowl on a fluke
Rob: New Castle, Pa.
What amazes me is that most of the media and sports people believe that Manny's situation is something recent. Why is everyone so naive as not to think that its just the first time he got caught.
Dana Jacobson (12:04 PM)
Rob, i dont think people necessarily believe that. But without having proof of earlier stuff what do you want them to say? why would someone just start now under tougher testing?
ed (TN)
nice end to the show I think "Chip" wanted to jump in
Don (Brunswick, OH)
IN Skip's face!!
Herm (Ohio)
showboats.lol
Dana Jacobson (12:05 PM)
allright folks, have a great weekend!!!
