KEEP WOODY, LOOSE THE REST. HE IS THE BEST COUNTER-PART TO SKIP.
Moderator (9:50 AM)
more Woody today folks...just like old times...1st down topics: Mavs coach Rick Carlisle thinks the Nuggets are a championship caliber team, is he right? Has Carmello closed the gap on Lebron as the best at his position? STan Van Gundy and Dwight Howard smoothed out their differences, will their meeting make a difference?
mike p redding,ca
welcome back woody viva la skip
Ben (Minneapolis, MN)
It makes me want to vomit when I hear about A-Rod and his first-pitch HR. What about Joe Mauer who did the same thing in his return to the Twins - followed later by back-to-back HR w/ Morneau in back-to-back games! What has A-Rod done so far? Mauer is playing like a true MVP, with the LEGIT background and character to back it up
Moderator (9:52 AM)
you got a legit point Ben...just make it to some porceline before you toss
Jarad (Boston)
Dwight Howard complained about not getting the ball down the stretch but personally I don't blame Stan Van Gundy... His offensive scoring ability is awful. I'd rather give the ball to the kid with the courtside seat who Big Baby ran over with the game on the line!! GO CELTS!!
johnnie, niagara falls, new york [via mobile]
Denver is good but they havent played anyone yet..the hornets has no shooting guard, no bench and a gimpy chandler and we all know that dallas was just happy to be there and there series should have been going to a game 6. dont be surprise if the lakers win 5 games against denver.
Sean (Rapid City)
Answers to the questions Mod. They are championship caliber, afterall they are making it to the conference finals. Charles Barkley made a good point last night that Carmello is the best shooter, but Lebron is the best player at their position. I don't think their meeting will make a difference, Celtics will win this one.
Umor (detroit)
Morning y'all. I'm still steam with the ump putting his hands on mags. we got a rallygoing afterwards. Then cudyer some how hit that homer off zoom to tied it up.. 100 mph pitch. how he hit it.
Kelly (Columbus, Oh)
There seem to be a million and one similar storylines between the Cavs and Nuggets; hottest teams in the playoffs, young superstar small forwards, new point guards who "put them over the top". Wouldn't this be the most exciting Finals matchup?
Sean (Rapid City)
Hey Mod I have a question. Do you decide what shows up and what doesn't? Just want to know before the show starts.
Moderator (10:02 AM)
I'm not the only one who decides
lawrence stowe vt
melo has had a decent playoff rund and he has closed the gap on lebron...quite a reach. lebron took a team to the finals 2 seasons ago and conferance finals last year..melo is no lebron yet
justin(ohio)
Denver could win a championship b/c they are good enough...they just have to get by LA and a beast in King James
Paul (Indianapolis, IN)
Why isn't Woody Page hired back to debate Skip daily. Ratings would increase and could you imagine 1st and 10 with Woody, Skip and Stephen A?
Dana Jacobson (10:06 AM)
paul, there's an effort to bring in differing opinions and woody doesn't want to live here. kind of a problem. he's happy in denver, you can enjoy him now and again!
Chad(Virginia Beach, VA)
The Nuggets are a championship caliber team, if they didn't have to go through THESE Lakers and then THESE Cavs/Celtics. Say what you want about the Lakers and Celtics and losing games, they're still the teams to beat in my opinion having been there last year.
Dana Jacobson (10:06 AM)
morning folks
Sean (Rapid CIty)
Just making sure it wasn't my computer.
Scott (Colorado Springs)
Way to go Denver, that was a beautiful game. The Nuggets just wouldn't let the Mavs in the game. Every time the Mavs would think they were getting close, the Nuggets would put another dragger in the heart of the Mavs. I think anyone who plays the Nuggets should be scared!
Paul (West Palm Beach Fl.)
Goodmorning all. I'm ready for Woody to make my day.
Aaron (Denver)
Melo's offense has been nothing less than stellar and his defense is actually respectable now. He has closed the gap but Lebron is simply another breed
Umor (detroit)
And I know it wasn't a shove. but it looked like one at the time. And leyland from the dugout had a right to be mad.
Paul (Indianapolis, IN)
How come David Ortiz is getting a performance enhancing drug pass? Ortiz was teammates with Manny, he has been slumping since testing intensified, and he was hitting massive home runs and now he is bone dry. Why is no one asking if his slump might be due to no longer being able to take performance enhancing drugs?
Moderator (10:11 AM)
I don't think anyone's getting a pass anymore, Paul, everyone is under suspicion
Sean (Rapid City)
Dana it looks like Skip is pretty close to just knocking your laptop of the table, swinging his arms all over the place.
Chris (loganville Ga)
Everybody knows that prince james true rival is Carmelo. the were in the same draft. Melo will prove to be better if they played one on one.
Andy(Canton,Ohio)
The Nuggets can beat the Lakers. Woody is right Billups has put the Nuggets over the top. And the Nuggets defense and rebounding is far superior then the Lakers. If I were Kobe I would have a talk with the rest of his team. He can not carry them anymore and the rest of his team is MIA.
Paul (West Palm Beach Fl.)
Is this a planed day off for Jay or did he just need a day off after a day with WOODY?
Dana Jacobson (10:12 AM)
we switch first and ten every other day always, paul.
James Denver
Skip you picked the Hornets in 6 then you barely picked Denver over Dallas. We dont need Skip in Nuggets Nation he is going to curse us.
justin(ohio)
Lakers should be scared by Denver...they look like a team on a mission, but i dont think they can beat LA in 7
Jordan (NJ)
Ben frmo Minnesota needs to relax. He needs to understand that nothing ever happens in this country except to the east of Chicago. I'm sorry, but no one cares about a young catcher who's been in the league for a few year. Alex was under scrutiny for steriods for months, and then the Selena Roberts book comes out, Manny tests positive, and Alex rushed back because the Yanks needed him. Where is Minnesota?
Moderator (10:14 AM)
I disagree Jordan, I'm with Ben on this one...
Chris (loganville Ga)
Nuggets are coming form the Western Conference this year.
Calvin W (Clearwater, FL)
Chris Paul is in the Big 4, not the Melo man
Rob (Tallahassee, Fla.)
Woody's WAY too calm....somebody get him another cup of java
Lyle (brooklyn,NY)
BOTTOM LINE CARMELO IS THE MOST PURE SHOOTER IN THE LEAGUE, LETS NOT FORGET THIS MAN SCORED 33 POINTS IN A QUARTER.HE SHOOTS BETTER THAN LEBRON AND HE SCORES EASIER THAN KOBE!
Moderator (10:15 AM)
Lyle, does he shoot better than Ray Allen?
Dan (State College)
SKIP IS CONCEDING!!! Skip has to change the subject of course. Round 1 = Woody Overall Score Woody 1, Skip 0
Jonathan (Atlanta, GA)
I don't believe I'm saying this (again) but Skip is dead on point. Melo is in the same sentence as LeBron and D-Wade. And I definitely agree that if the game is tied with 5 seconds to go, I want Melo to take the shot versus LeBron.
Kevin (Bronx, NY)
Carmelo Anthony is a great player, but LeBron is currently on another level.
Anthony (Osseo, Michigan)
If the lakers play like they're playing against the Rockets, the Nuggets will beat them. If they play to the way they should be, the lakers will win in 6
Aaron (Springfield, MO)
I am not trusting LA in these playoffs. The questions with Bynum and Odem as well as Kobe's stamina, as Skip would be quick to point out, seems to favor Denver in this match up.
KC (Denver, CO)
As a Denver fan I am just happy the Nuggets got this far. I mean my goal for them these season was to atleast get out of the 1st round. They did that and to think they got this far after that is great.
Moderator (10:17 AM)
c'mon KC...don't get complacent...Carpe Diem!!
Cody (Tucson, AZ)
Has Carmelo gotten better? Of course, thanks to two obvious reasons, in no particular order: being on Team USA and training with the likes of Kobe and LeBron, and the acquisition of one Mr. Chauncey Billups. 'Melo has fed off the veteran point guard almost as much as he deterriorated when Iverson was around. .
lawrence stowe vt
I wish I was a fly on the wall during the howard vangundy meeting. Vangundy begging howard to forgive him, and vowing to call his number during the forth quarter. Vangundy needs this series to keep his job.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
I can see Dwight Howard taking 25 shots tonight and the Magic losing by 15 points. Overcompensation from the previous loss could be the downfall of Orlando.
Adam (Columbus, OH)
Carmelo also has never been anything but mediocre without another high caliber player playing with him. The Lebron/Carmelo talk needs to stop.
Justin K saratoga new york
why isnt anyone putting the blame on the players they are the ones that has to get the ball to dwight the players have to understand when your shot isnt on your shot isnt on pass the ball
Mike (Watertown, CT)
Lyle, Melo is a great shooter, but there are more than a few people who are better pure shooters than he is. Ill give him top 5 tho probably
Dan (State College)
I'd love to have dinner with Stan and Dwight. I wouldn't have to order any food because of all the animosity I would taste...cmon...thats good enough to get posted right? haha
Moderator (10:19 AM)
just made it Dan...don't get cocky
Calvin W (Clearwater, FL)
Forget Woody, we want T.J. Simers. Lets make it a Sportnation question: Who do we want to battle Skip next?
Mike (Watertown, CT)
I don't see why everyone is blaming Van gundy for the magics woes, i blame the players who are jacking up prayers i the last 5 minutes or the Celtics Championship D locking them down/
Andy(Canton,Ohio)
No Way Jonathan. LeBron can make them all. Did you see how easy he made that 35 footer look at the end of the half in game 3. LeBron doesn't look like he is trying except in the playoffs where he shot 50% from 3 in the series against the Hawks. Give it to LeBron everytime.
Peter (Indianapolis)
Chris Paul can't be in the Big 4 because he's a PG. The 1, 4, and 5 spots will never be considered the "best players playing now" It will always be shooting guards and wing men. A clear example is Dwight Howard not being mentioned, why? He's a Center.
Adam (Columbus, OH)
How come Skip, who has the most down time of all of you, never comes onto the chat? All the while I'm amazed Jay and Dana fit this in?
Moderator (10:20 AM)
Skip needs a lot of time to himself
KC (Northglenn,CO)
How do you people think Lebron would do if he was in the West?
Aaron (Springfield, MO)
Dwight Howard is an unreliable free-throw shooter at best, which makes him a liability in the fourth quarter. Man, I hate admitting that Skip is right.
Matt (Dallas, Tx)
if the magic lose this series...Can anyone else see Orlando going after Avery?
mike (Dallas Texas)
Why dopes everyone seem to think that lebron is the best player he misses more shots that he makes
Joe (St. Louis, MO)
1st and Ten was my favorite segment on ESPN in the days of Skip and Woody.Nice to see him back, if only for a few days.
Anthony (Osseo, Michigan)
With KG out, there's no reason the magic shouldn't be feeding Dwight as much as possible. There's nobody on the Celtic team that can defend him.
jay from indianapolis
when dwight howard developes an offense then he will get the ball in the 4th
andre harlem ny
i think skip is going to eat woody's lunch today,
Dan (State College)
Can Skip rebound this round? I don't know....I feel like the poor man's Tony Reali.
James, East Troy WI
How come no one is talking about the brewers? They are top 5 in the nl in team era, home runs, batting avg, and runs scored. They are now tied for first place in nl central. What about the crew?
JADA (YORK ¢ITY)
WOODY PLEASE DONT GO!!! I MISSED U !!! NOBODY ELSE CAN HAND IT TO SKIP LIKE YOU DO!!!
Daytona Beach, FL
Nobody is giving Denver a chance vs. the Lakers, but I haven't heard one key point from anyone at ESPN. When the Lakers were going for their 4th straight Championship in 2004, they were upset by a young, upstart team (Detroit) led by who??? Chauncy Billups aka the Magic Killer aka Kobe killer... I'd say they have a chance!!!
Kevin (Bronx, NY)
Woody is right. Dwight will get the ball early and often and have a monster game.
Dana Jacobson (10:23 AM)
kevin someone better or the magic ar eon vacation
Peter (Indianapolis)
Woah Adam. Melo turned his team into a playoff team just as quickly as Lebron did. Melo, since he's entered the league, has been one of the better wing men in the game. Melo has always been a star, but now his star is shining brighter with another star sharing the light.
Dana Jacobson (10:25 AM)
peter, do you think nuggets would be where they are without chauncy? i don't...so i can't give melo as much credit as lebron. i think lebron carried his team, got role players to boost. i think melo needed help to carry them
Viva(Indianapolis IN)
Daytona, Barkley picked Denver to win it all. So you can't say nobody
Chizzie Thornton, Co
Come on lets talk some Nuggets basketball. Anyone that is giving the Lakers a clear shot to the finals is fooling themselves
Adam: (San Diego, CA)
NHL talk=ratings killer.
Sean (Rapid City)
You are right Lebron misses more shots than he makes, but he's a 47% lifetime shooter. Jordan was a 49% lifetime shooter. Kobe however is a 51% lifetime shooter.
Dan (State College)
Daytona, I think your comment is complete garbage. I feel like people are giving Denver more of a chance than I ever expected! People expect it to be a competitive series but ultimately LA to win because they have more experience and a certain player that has won multiple titles and an MVP last year...
Chris (loganville Ga)
Paul pierce is due for a monster game.
Peter (Indianapolis)
James, no one is talking about the Reds either, and they are 1 win ahead of the Brewers.
Lance (New York, N.Y.)
Peter, that is ludicrous. It doesn't matter what position a player plays in. You measure the player's impact on a team and the win-loss total to determine who's the best. Russell, Chamberlain, Walton, Hakeem, Shaq, Pettit, Duncan, and KG may have something to say about that.
Umor (detroit)
Screwloose offering solutions to make howard better. Outstanding.
Rajesh (Atlanta)
I don't buy the fact that there isn't bad blood amongst Van Gundy and his players after the interviews after last game.
Behn - Indiana
Somebody let James from East Troy know that the Brewers won't be there at the end of the season, so no point to get excited now!
Brian (Michigan)
KG wouldn't even guard Dwight, he'd guard Lewis. Perkinds is doing a great job on Dwight. Dwight doesn't have much of an offensive game besides dunking, so I'm not sure why they would go to him.
Aaron (Springfield, MO)
No one trusts the Reds or the Brewers to maintain their pace. And history is not kind to either franchise in that respect.
Chris (loganville Ga)
prince james is so overrated he is surrounded by shooters Dana
J
I think we should start a bye bye skip bayless petition resplace him with woody
Adam (Columbus, OH)
Peter, the Reds are actually in a three way tie with the Brewers and Cardinals, we aren't ahead of anyone... yet...
Andy(Canton,Ohio)
Yes Dan, But what has Kobe won since Shaq left?
Joey Crawford (Chat Ref)
Technical foul on Sean for posting inaccurate stats. Kobe is a lifetime 45% shooter.
Calvin W (Clearwater, FL)
If nothing motivates you more than losing, does that mean the Clippers are the most motivated team in the NBA?
Jonathan (Atlanta, GA)
Good point Dana however I think that puts much more scruity on LeBron. To quote Henry IV "uneasy lies the head that wears the crown"
Umor (detroit)
Dana whats so funny.
Kevin (Bronx, NY)
Whoa Chris, LBJ is not overrated. He is surrounded by better players now, but LeBron is a player who can do everything.
Sean (Rapid City)
Dana time to fess up what was happening while you were laughing.
Aaron (Springfield, MO)
I suspect Van Gundy won't return to Orlando next season. No evidence to that fact, just a feeling.
Calvin W (Clearwater, FL)
When are we going to get to the umpire pushing Magglio Ordonez. I bet Woody wants the umpire fired.
Moderator (10:33 AM)
3rd down, Calvin
Brian (Michigan)
Kobe has never shot 50% in a season, much less his entire career.
Mike (Watertown, CT)
i give mags a lot of credit for keeping his cool last night after being shoved by the ump, as small a push as it was, it was still out of line to dismiss him like that on a shaky call too
Jay Baltimore Maryland
Watch out Melo's Sneeking up 2 another championship just like College!!!!! Let's Go Nuggets!!
Dana Jacobson (10:34 AM)
sorry...so here's what happend. i mentioned gabe - one of our sgmt producers on air, to come get a twitter pic. omar, one of our other segment producers wanted some love. so i gave him some off the top of that tease - about the video he cut - gabe was in the studio and laughed. i heard it..was fine, and then in my head kept hearing it - just like a quick laugh - and it struck me as very funny. while i was laughing i could hear others start and its just contagious.
Dan (State College)
Eddie Jordan...oh boy..Sixers are headed in circles. Avery Johnson is available people!
Dana Jacobson (10:34 AM)
dan - i'd like to see avery in sac
Peter (Indianapolis)
Lance, I'm not saying they aren't great. But if you honestly looked at who was considered the best players in the game you'd have to go back to the 60s to find a big man in that list. How many people were talking about Shaq 10 years ago, not many, it was all Michael and Kobe. Now Dwight Howard and Chris Paul arn't in the mix, it's Lebron, Kobe, Melo, and DWade.
Dana Jacobson (10:36 AM)
peter, people talked about shaq 10 years ago...lakers were getting into their dominant kobe-shaq-phil time. shaq is a center that helped change the way the game was played. but centers like that are more rare
justin k toga ny
dana why sac
Dana Jacobson (10:37 AM)
justin, first off they have an opening. second, they don't have a ton to work with but owners willing to pay - meaning perhaps get one good lottery pick and a free agent and you can turn things around
Veg Austin, TX
WE NEED MORE OF WOODY...HE IS THE ONLY ONE THAT PUTS SKIP INTO IS PLACE...IT'S GREAT!
Juan (Miami, FL)
Avery Johnson should be the Chicago Bulls coach.
Calvin W (Clearwater, FL)
Eddie Jordan should wait until the Rutgers job opens up. He would be great there.
Dana Jacobson (10:37 AM)
veg - woody's great but in fairness to our other debaters - jemele, stephen a, patrick mcenroe, jalen, they put skip in his place too...among some others
Aaron (Denver)
Peter you are crazy! Everyone was talking about Shaq ten years ago...Kobe was 21 and a sidekick to Shaq. Jordan was retired! Shaq was regularly referred to as "The Most Dominant Force in the Game"
Rob (Tallahassee, Fla.)
I often wonder how good Kobe would REALLY be had Shaq stayed in L.A. --- no doubt he's one of the best in the game, but that's all he is - "one" of the best.
Moderator (10:38 AM)
do people actually aspire to wait for a Rutgers basketball job to open up?
Brian (Michigan)
Shaq was the best player in the game at one time. Maybe Hakeem and David Robinson were while Jordan was playing baseball. Magic may have been the best at one time. Your argument is terrible, Peter.
JULIUS(SPRINGFIELD MA)
AVERY IS A GREAT COACH HE SHOULD STILL BE COACHING IN DALLAS HE HAD THEM PLAYING DEFENSE DANA
Scott (Colorado Springs)
That ump should be suspensed for a game, if a player can't touch an ump and the ump can't touch a player. Granted it wasn't a shove, but it still a touch is a touch.
Andy(Canton,Ohio)
Yea Dana another good point 12 years ago Shaq was named one of the NBA's 50 greatest players.
Kevin (Bronx, NY)
Yeah, the Sixers need a coach who can get the most out of its young talent. And, Eddie Jordan has not fared too well as a coach. Avery Johnson would be a good choice.
Cody (Tucson, AZ)
Moderator, how you gonna let Chris from GA get through with a comment like that? I might as well say "Glen Davis is better than Dwight Howard" or "Kobe Bryant needs to get more involved for the Lakers"... thats about the same as saying James is surrounded by shooters and overrated
dale wilkes-barre pa
roger clemens really needs to pull a mark mcgwire and disappear because he really has nothing new to say and everytime he talks he just digs himself deeper and deeper
Steve (INDIANA)
To Behn in Indiana, I am a Cub fan, but this time last year I do believe people were saying the same thing about the Rays. How did that turn out?
Batman - Gotham City
I'm Batman!
Rob (Tallahassee, Fla.)
If you guys want Woody to shine, somebody get him another cup of java. He's much more electric in the afternoons..... after his "adult minimum requirement" of caffine.
Moderator (10:39 AM)
agreed Dale, but I kinda want to hear from McGwire right now...He still has some explaining to do
Sean (Rapid City)
Yeah Mod, I'm waiting for that Florida International University spot to open up.
Dana Jacobson (10:39 AM)
rob he knows where the coffee is!! he was always like this in the morning!
Calvin W (Clearwater, FL)
I bet Zimmerman will not do First Take again. His appearance on the show is why he lost his streak.
Danny (Tonasket, Wa.)
Dana, rule changes also made it more difficult for a center to dominate, e.g. they can now play zone defenses allowing teams to clog up the lane and double team the big guys easier than before.
Moderator (10:40 AM)
you mean you bet First Take might not do Zimmerman again
Dana Jacobson (10:40 AM)
danny good point, but rule changes that came b/c of shaq..fair to say???
BATMAN (batcave)
NO, I'M BATMAN!!!
Aaron (Denver)
Moderator you would have said the same thing about Rutgers football 5 years ago and they are a respectable program now that Schiano is there
Kai Tampa
Dwight Howard not a superstar? Def player of the year and NBA All 1st Team are you kidding me skip? point of the matter is he is at a physical mismatch regardless if the skill part isn't where it should be wanna shoot 3s then work in and ot utilize the shot clock dont just go jack city.
Gary Vernon Hills, il
Do it for every punch out!!!
Rob (Tallahassee, Fla.)
IN THE STANDS UMPS.... I guessing it was "college night" at the ballpark, and these guys came straight from Cameron Arena (Duke) - and had worked on their "bits" ahead of time. I'm just curious how many beers were involve......
Justin (Dickinson, ND)
I think that the two fans were funny and they did not disturb the game at all either.
Aaron (Springfield, MO)
The ump thing was original at least.
KC (Northglenn, CO)
I think it was entertaining I kinda wish I was there to watch it live.
Aaron (Denver)
Those Umps were solid
Scott (Colorado Springs)
Who is running chat if they are all debating? :-)
Moderator (10:49 AM)
the Wizard of Oz
Mike (Watertown, CT)
it wasnt just college night, thet were there for other jays games and they were doing it for every K, even when a Jay player would get rung up
Steve (INDIANA)
I hear so much inappropriate language at MLB games so I find the "umpires" hilarious. It was almost like a Minor League Baseball atmosphere.
Ryan (West Chester, PA)
For one batter (like A-Roid) it's fine, but every batter? That's as obnoxious as Lebron celebrating after every point.
Peter (Indianapolis)
I can't believe you let Dana get over trying to say Melo needed Chauncy to 'help carry' the team. and you didn't post my comment saying Lebron couldn't get it done the past 2 years and the cavs are the favs this year because of Mo Williams addition to the team and Lebron needed his help to get further as much as Melo needed Chauncy. I burnt her good and I'm right. I'm done with you. i'm watching NFL Network.
Rob (Tallahassee, Fla.)
Aaron, the more operative question would be where will Rutgers football be in another 5 years???
Dana Jacobson (10:49 AM)
im sorry were the cavs not in the eastern conference finals a couple years ago peter? enjoy the nfl network
Rajesh (Atlanta)
The umpires are funny...its a baseball game and they're having fun...that's what its all about... The people around them thought it was funny too, so no problems there either...
Aaron (Denver)
I would have bought the umps a beer
Adam (Columbus, OH)
I agree with Dana, it would get obnoxious. I've been to games with friends where they did similar gestures every at bat, and even I wanted them to stop.
College Student (Ohio)
Hey Rob how bout you back off a bit? I'm so sick of everyone saying college students like myself only come up with creative, entertaining things like the 2 Umps when they're drunk!
Brian (Michigan)
Did someone say Punch Out? I always had a problem with Super Macho Man.
Chizzie Thornton, Co
Mr. Kim that was funny about the batboys giving them balls for their pouches
Dana Jacobson (10:51 AM)
nice brian
Leslie Findlay, OH
Those fake umpires at the Rogers Centre were punching out EVERY strikeout for EVERY player during a recent Jays/Indians matchup that I watched. Entertaining for only ARod? Yes. Annoying for every player, including their own? Also, a YES.
Sean (Rapid City)
Dana just gave you the open handed slap.
Dana Jacobson (10:52 AM)
sean, i didn't see his earlier comment but by that one, i believe that he already threw a punch my way!
Brett (Rolla, MO)
I agree with Woody. The fans dressing up as umps should do that for every A-rod at-bat. If A-rod can shout at the shortstop when rounding third base, why shouldn't these fans do the same to distract him?
Anthony, Trenton
The umpires did it for every batter New York & Toronto - they made the game interesting and entertaining Keep Woody around!
Rob (Tallahassee, Fla.)
UMPS IN THE STANDS....... it's like any gag/stick - funny for a while, and the longer it goes on the more "over the top" and boring/ho-hum it becomes...
KC (Northglenn, CO)
If they did that for every player though I think it would've got annoying.
Calvin W (Clearwater, FL)
Manny missing from the lineup means Loney has to hit more than 1 HR a month.
oxford , ma
The umpires at toronto i thought were very funny.
Danny (Tonasket, Wa.)
Skip is right about Karl, when the chips are down in a must win game, he will go knucklehead, he did it in Seattle when they had the best team in the West and nothing has changed
Steve (Long Island)
I think the umps in the stand were great. It was hysterical. As a Yankee fan, I wish I could afford those seats in the Bronx.
Peter (Indianapolis)
And I am taking my gallon of ice cream with me.
lorrell thomas(infglewood california)
1. most of you guys are on the east coast so dont get laker games. 2. sum are you are too old to stay up till 10:30 . you will miss kobe when hes done
Dana Jacobson (10:54 AM)
what flavor peter?
Moderator (10:54 AM)
lorrell, keep the posts a little shorter please, I gotta get to bed soon
Chris OHIO
The two guys behind homeplat in the yanks game have been there fo a week or so..iseen them in a game last week..
Calvin W (Clearwater, FL)
Rutgers football in another five years-National Champions
Michael Kim (10:55 AM)
Good morning, everyone... I've cracked the code. Been having email and internet problems this morning.
Mike (Watertown, CT)
skip-how can you give up on the NHL playoffs, what about if the bruins make it to the next round, they are just as exciting to watch as a team together.
Greg Las Vegas, NV
I think George Karl is the west's version of Stan Van Gundy
Kevin (Bronx, NY)
I think the majority of people gave up on hockey a long time ago.
justin saratoga springs Ny
WOW skip i almost never think anything you say is right but you nailed it
ross (Otizy, Ma)
skip is a joke he makes it personal he says the umpires were obnoxious yet then when its about a rod it becomes ok ...thats why you can not comment on any team that has a player you dont like
Aaron (Denver)
Skip, you should have watched the Penguins and Caps last night, following the puck was easy you just had to look in the back of the Caps net.
Steve (Long Island)
I'll watch anything Skip doesn't like, just to disagree with him.
NUF CED(RAIDER NATION)
DOES WOODY SUFFER FROM RON ARTESTISM???
Aaron (Denver)
DANA is FIRED up!
Sean (Rapid City)
Michael K., glad to see you join us, very funny comment about the batboy giving balls to the stand umps.
Steve (INDIANA)
The referee stunt is done in basketball and football all the time, it is about time somebody got the umpire stunt done. It can be improved however. I liked a comment I heard that they should have pulled out Leslie Nielsen from Naked Gun fame.
Adam (Illinois)
Greeny brought up a great point on Mike and Mike this morning. If Detroit and Boston can win tonight then we will have 3 American, Original 6 teams (Chicago will bring in a ton of ratings!)plus Sid the Kid's Pens in the NHL's final 4. What more could the NHL ask for?!
Chizzie Thornton, Co
I would say something about, Skip. But, my mom, said if you cant say something nice about someone dont say anything at all.
Jonathan (Atlanta, GA)
Will Paulus play hoops at Syracuse too?
Dana Jacobson (10:59 AM)
jonathan, he can't play hoops there - just another sport. eligibility thing
Steve (Rochester, NY)
Dana, are you the moderator or Skip and Woody's babysitter? Also, loved that you said fisticuffs!
Dana Jacobson (11:00 AM)

Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Awesome comment on the Pens game, Aaron. The Pens lit the lamp so much that they had to change bulbs between periods.
Paul (West Palm Beach Fl.)
That was hilarious. I feel for ya Dana. It's hard enough to get Woody to shut up but now Skip is going Woody on you too.
Brad, NY
Woody has brought life back into this show, Make him come back for good!
Dave milwaukee WI
Come to see the game not the fans
David (maryland)
I definitely agree with woody I'll continue to watch the nhl playoffs because of sidney crosby vs bruins and redwings vs blackhawks.
Doug (Georgia)
Say what you want about Skip, but he's right most of the time ;) He calls it like he see's it without letting any player's hype or popularity cloud his judgment. People just dont want to hear ANYTHING other than praise for their favorite player.
Rob (Tallahassee, Fla.)
Who wants to lay odds Paulus won't take a snap???
Mike (Watertown, CT)
can paulus really have success after not playing in a real game for 4+ years, ansd then jumping into D1 college football? good luck my man
Greg (Las Vegas, NV)
Greg Paulus is making this move a little late.
Umor (detroit)
Way to represent Hockey Dana and Woody. I expect dasuik to come out and play tonight. And I expect the bruins to come out guns blazing and taking no prisoners.
Gerald, Brooklyn, NY
LOL, Dana was about to give Woody and Skip a spanking
Dana Jacobson (11:01 AM)
mike - it would be quite a story wouldn't it? who thought cassel could after not taking a starting snap in college or hte pros till he took over for brady? i know its different in that he was at practives, scrimmage, etc... but somewhat similar
Josh (KY)
Dana, why dont you talk to Skip like you just did Woody? I like it.
Rob (Tallahassee, Fla.)
Paulus.........AGAIN??????? Yawn....... throw a TD pass, or 15, and we'll take notice
Aaron (Denver)
Dana you should get the old "Homey the Clown" bat and just whack Woody and Skip as the segment ends...Dana don't play that!
Arnie (Harlingen, TX)
Where's Woody's black board?! I look forward to it every day - it's like a fortune cookie!
Calvin W (Clearwater, FL)
Do Syracuse oranges taste better than Florida oranges?
Pat (Denver)
Mike, I am a huge 'Cuse fan, but its Syracuse football he cant make them any worse and he's a hometown kid so maybe he can put some butts in the seats
Heath(Bham,AL)
Dana relax enjoy the ride. this is TV legend stuff woody is finally happy again. please keep sip around. i feel 5 years younger!its like the good ole days
AJ (Bismarck, ND)
Shame on Woody and Skip on making Dana yell.
Dana Jacobson (11:05 AM)
heath, tell that to the people screaming in my ear. glad you all are enjoying it
NUF CED(RAIDER NATION)
DANAS' ABOUT TO LAY THE SMACKDOWN ON WOODRO IF HE DOESN'T CHILLAX.
Scott (Holland, MI)
Happy for the Pens fans but sooo disappointed in the Caps! I love Alex the great because he is the 1st player with massive skills that actually throws bone crushing hits and is the Dino Cicarelli/ Claud Lemieux antogonizing attributes. Actually turned the game off in the 2nd period. Sad
Rob (Tallahassee, Fla.)
I said it last time the "Paulus THING" came up -- it took Chris Weinke 2+ years to make an impact at Florida State (quarterback U) after he took off 4 years to play pro baseball, and he was throwing the whole time.........
Joe Albany New York
Skip you're out of your mind if you can't get into these NHL playoffs. Not only are NHL playoffs the best playoffs of any of the major sports but this year in particular has been ridiculous. The NBA for example has had maybe one or two good, well played series. The NHL has had 6 or 7.
Dana Jacobson (11:06 AM)
scott, i'm with you. i agree with skip alex much more exciting to watch than sid.
Kevin (Bronx, NY)
I guess Syracuse can afford to do this; they can't get any worse, even in the Big East.
Ryan (Columbus, Ohio)
Those two "umps" in the stands made it almost impossible for me to watch the Indians/Blue Jays series last week, and I hate missing Indians games. The entertainment is on the field, can we leave it at that?
Dana Jacobson (11:06 AM)
kevin, i said this with michigan in the talk...anyone can afford it if they have that scholarship to give. it creates competition and he does bring leadership
Wertz (Johnstown, pa Home of Slap Shot)
Dana, Don't mean to burst your bubble but i think the wings aren't gonna make it to the finals, cause if they barely get past anaheim tonight Chicago's youth is gonna prove to be too much.
Pete Sutton (Jacksonville Fla)
I love hearing Skip and Woody, its like looking at Koby and Labron, but just a lil older!!! Keep intertaining guyz and doing what u do..
Kyle, Portland Oregon
The ump/fans were great. They were not doing anything rude or disrepectful, just 2 young guys at a Yankee/Jays game with great seats having a good time, and now they have 15....well 12-13 mintues of fame. If it continues than things could get annoying, once is enough.
Dana Jacobson (11:07 AM)
Wertz, you may be right. But chicago's youth like pitts last year may also catch up with them. one or the other i guess?!
Matt (Council Bluffs, IA)
Dana, you think that after the Lakers beat the Rockets tonbight...that they will also beat the Nuggets to advance to the Finals and play the Cavs or would it be a rematch from last years Finals?
Kevin (Bronx, NY)
It's too early too tell which trade was better, referring to Billups/Cutler. We have to wait and see what the Bears do this season.
Jeff Michigan
Get flip clueless off the panel when talking hockey. He knows nothing. All those basketball blowouts don't even come close to the NHL playoffs so far!
Dana Jacobson (11:09 AM)
Matt, i think the cavs are coming out the east...but i've made chizzie happy lately giving the nuggets love. they'll take LA to 7.
Michael (KY)
Dana/Jay.... I atttempted to ask this yesterday, but I was too late. There is something I have been wondering for the longest time. Is Skip really the guy he puts on for the camera, or is it just a persona he feels like he should keep going with for the show?
Dana Jacobson (11:10 AM)
michael he believes what he says if that's what you're asking. he's a quieter guy than he is on there but that's b/c he isn't always in a debate!
roco Yauks , Tx
The nhl is boring Skip's totally right rather watch woman softball.
Dana Jacobson (11:10 AM)
roco to each his/her own.
NUF CED(RAIDER NATION)
CASSEL DOESNT HAVE RANDY MOSS THIS YEAR AND EVEN WITH MOSS HE DIDN'T MAKE THE PLAYOFFS.MATT CASSEL= SCOTT MITCHELL 09
Dana Jacobson (11:10 AM)
nuf ced - we'll see. can't wait to watch!!!
Greg (Las Vegas,NV)
No way, Lakers are motivated now, no way the nuggets beat em'!
Dana Jacobson (11:11 AM)
greg - you and phil hope you're right
Michael from East Hartford, CT
I think a good question to have asked Greg Paulus was if he would try to continue his basketball career at Syracuse while he his trying to resume his football career. I'm sure he is a good player since he went to Duke and I'm sure Syracuse could use him since they may be losing two of their guards.
bentley p (fayetteville Ar)
Is there any way we can get Woody to come back for at least one to two weeks a year? I love the two together. (Skip and Woody)
Brett (Milwaukee WI)
I want to thank Woody for the "shoutout" about us from spring training. Woody, if you want a copy of our photo let me know, and I'll e-mail it to you.
Dana Jacobson (11:12 AM)
brett send your email to me here and i'll send you woody's
Jason (Chicago)
Ron Harper was Awesome in Chicago
KC (Northglenn, CO)
Does anybody see Cavs Sweeping the Celtics or Magic? I don't I think that will be a very close series.
Dana Jacobson (11:13 AM)
KC, celtics skip and i agree they could sweep, skip says he sees em losing or could lose to the magic. i don't but don't see a sweep
Moderator (11:13 AM)
Woody's take on Lane Kiffin coming up in a few
Pete Sutton (Jacksonville Fla)
Dana, give a lil love to Skip and Woody for me it's like looking at Koby and Labron on the court but they are just a lil older.... Keep up the good work
Chris ((Catskill,NY))
Dana, the fights r the best in hockey but other than that its borring.
Jeff Michigan
The NBA has a whistle or timeout every 30 seconds talk about boring. Every slap on the wrist gets a whistle how exciting.
Dana Jacobson (11:14 AM)
brett i just sent it to you
LORRELL(los angeles ca)
WHERE IS STEPHEN A. SMITH??????
Dana Jacobson (11:15 AM)
lorrell, sadly no longer working for espn.
Dave (Detroit)
how come I don't see any of my comments or questions
Dana Jacobson (11:15 AM)
just timing dave, keep trying
Aaron (Denver)
Harper was a lock down defender.
Wertz (Johnstown, pa Home of Slap Shot)
Good call Dana I do agree that they do look like the pens of last year. But the fists will be flying tonight. On a basketball note I actually started watching some playoffs which is a first in 15 years for me and that is thanks to King James He is the perfect role model for the game.
Dana Jacobson (11:15 AM)
nice wertz...love for every sport
Michael Kim (11:16 AM)
I have to say that I'm rooting for Greg Paulus to see the field this fall -- just to see what he can do. People who saw him in person when he was a HS star say he was a phenomenal player at that level. Wonder how the time away has affected him.
Calvin W (Clearwater, FL)
Jay, I cannot believe you did not refer Ron Harper as the Ohio Flyer. We should take your Ohio citizenship away from you.
Douglas Helmke (Toledo, OH)
Skip is sooo right about Billups.
Justin (Dickinson, ND)
I'm sorry but Jay Cutler is not that good of a quarterback
Chizzie Thornton, Co
Nuggets are the talk in Denver. Broncos are old news. Who cares about the Broncos? not me
JADA (YORK ¢ITY)
WOODY,BRING OUT DR.S¢REW LOOSE!!!
KC (Northglenn CO)
You can't debate what Trade is better yet. Cutler has not started a game for Chicago. Billups lead this Nuggets team to a WCF. So if you were asking the question now it's Billups without a question
Dave milwaukee WI
DA Bears is where QB go to die
tom nj [via mobile]
All you NHL bashers should try shooting 3 pointers with scates on.
Kevin (Bronx, NY)
The way that the Magic are playing now, I have to disagree with Skip. The Cavs would win that series in 5 or 6.
Mike (Watertown, CT)
when did stephen a leave??
Aaron (Denver)
Greg Oloson will be a stud with Cutler behind center
Dana Jacobson (11:20 AM)
may 1st
Douglas Helmke (Toledo, OH)
Chauncy Billups.. hands down best point guard in the leauge. Conference Finals 7 years in a row. Cutler & Hester will be untouchable.
Rob (Tallahassee, Fla.)
TOO EARLY TO MAKE THE CALL!!! Cutler has yet to play a down in Chicago. Meanwhile Billips has been delivering.
Moderator (11:20 AM)
I agree Rob
Eddie (Crofton, KY)
DANA, Easy.... Control is one thing, but sheesh... It's amazing how much Woody can take. He gets cut off, yelled at, demeanered, etc more than most husbands... ON THE SHOW... Poor guy.. better watch out, one day he might snap...
Scott (Va)
Kiffin..what a joke..as stupid as that dang Rocky Top song
Veg (Austin, TX)
Woody i love ya BUT, I would be embarrassed if i were you!
Matt (New Britian,CT)
too early to make a call on kiffin, wait till the first few games
Aaron (Denver)
Chizzie you know the Broncos are King in Denver...The Nuggets are the flavor of the month. Just like the Rockies in the World Series. Up or Down the seats are filled in Mile High can't say the same for the Pepsi Center
Douglas Helmke (Toledo, OH)
no one can keep up with Devin HEster & with cutler's arm I see another Pro Bowl for the Hurricane, his first as a receiver.
Justin (Dickinson, ND)
Lane Giffin should not even be a high school coach
Shane (Denver)
I'm a Broncos and Bears fan. I'm stoked about the trade for both teams!! They both got what they needed. Essentially Moreno for Cutler. Moreno will be one of the top RB's in the NFL this year.
Todd (Queens/NY)
The Lakers are in trouble. They do not have that killer instict as teams of old. They are really skilled but have too many mental lapses
Dave (Detroit)
The bears traded for a cry baby and the broncos screwed up the draft picks they got for him
Brian (Michigan)
The trade debate is just stupid. Is that the best you can come up with?
William (Orlando, Fl)
Kiffin's limited NFL experience went to his head. He's not that good and he's living off what was really a failure with the Raiders.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Michael: You've seen Syracuse play football. How much worse can Paulus be compared to what they already have?
Matt (New Britian,CT)
thoughts on greg paulus? just woke up,sorry
Moderator (11:23 AM)
catch the re-air, Matt, we already did Paulus
Scott (Holland, MI)
I still can't believe Dumars traded Mr Big Shot for Iverson. Talk about bone headed! The same when they let Ben Wallace go. Good Grief!! Cutler has nobody to throw to so that isn't going to even be a thought this year!!
Tom (Wisconsin)
Woody can take the abuse - it's less than he gets from reali every day on Around the Horn.
Dana Jacobson (11:24 AM)
scott, remember he traded him to clear cap space for this upcoming offseason...not b/c he thought ai was better than chauncy
Pat (Denver)
look unless Cutler has a huge attitude adjustment and grows up the answer is clearly Chauncy, he brought the team together, brought leadership (on and off the floor), got JR and Melo to grow up and probably saved Karl's job. What is cutler going to bring to Chi town, more tears?
Jay Crawford (11:24 AM)
wow! what a slacker...sorry room. very busy today, but free now. whats up???
Greg (Las Vegas,NV)
To be fair Kiffin never got a fair chance with the Raiders.
Terry (Atlanta GA)
Shane your right maybe. Can Moreno stay healthy in a city that changes running backs like underwear. Does Cutler have an O-line to protect him in Chi-Town
Justin (Dickinson, ND)
Is Jay to busy today to talk
NICK (minneapolis)
why do none of my posts get in? this is stupid
Calvin W (Clearwater, FL)
Dana, you are going to feel silly when Tennessee wins the SEC East this season.
Michael Kim (11:25 AM)
Johnny... That's why I think he made the wise choice to go there in the end. I'm guessing his preference would have been Michigan and playing Ohio State, etc. but this provides the best chance to play and have some success without as much pressure as there would have been in Ann Arbor.
Jay Crawford (11:25 AM)
sorry justin...i have been, but free now. have some taped pieces upcoming.
Moderator (11:25 AM)
someone put their hand on Nick's back and push him into the dugout
nick (minneapolis)
leaving chat now
Dana Jacobson (11:25 AM)
calvin, i dont think i'll feel silly, i didn't say anything about tennessee or the SEC.
Jay Crawford (11:25 AM)
did i scare you away nick?
Rob (Tallahassee, Fla.)
Jay's AWAKE........woo-hoo lol
Pete Sutton (Jacksonville Fla)
Dana, do u think that Labron will ever pass Jordan in the people eye's, as for as being the best player ever?
Moderator (11:25 AM)
Look's like Nick took the push better than Maglio
Todd (Queens/NY)
Syracuse football will never be the same. Recruits do not want to play in an antiquated stadium or go to school in 4 feet of snow. Times have changed.
Jay Crawford (11:26 AM)
oh yeah rob! and im ready to go. so what have i missed. obnoxious or entertaining on the umps in toronto?
Brian (Michigan)
Letting Ben Wallace go was a great move. The Iverson trade was a pure salary dump, it wasn't for short term success.
Justin (Dickinson, ND)
it cool jay
Matt (Council Bluffs, IA)
Jay,ask Skip if he thinks the Lakers will/can sweep the Nuggets
Dana Jacobson (11:26 AM)
pete, it'll be tough. he'd have to win more titles i think and that's going to be near impossible. it wasn't just jordan, he got the right supporting cast and they stuck together OR filled holes the right way
Douglas Helmke (Toledo, OH)
I'm so Glad Jason Is Back as a Dolphin, we finally got Ricky off the dope and Taylor is back on the end of the line.
Matt (New Britian,CT)
why would parcells want his dancing boy back?
Jay Crawford (11:26 AM)
matt, he does not.
Josh (KY)
Dumars knows what he's doing. Look for a whole new Pistons team next year. Tayshaun Prince will likely be gone as will be Rasheed Wallace.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Nick played the whine card and got served.
Jay Crawford (11:26 AM)
ahh, sorry i missed it.
Paul (West Palm Beach Fl.)
Jason Taylor is a good guy and has a house down here. He wanted to be close to his kids.
Dana Jacobson (11:26 AM)
matt, he was cheap and he fits a need of leadership and ability. he's healthy again, taylor, participating in offseason stuff. a win for miami
Jay Crawford (11:26 AM)
so badly he gave up 7 milly!
Luke (Auburn)
Jay, you should call back Paulus and ask him if he wants to play point for the basketball team...with Flynn gone they need him
Scott (Holland, MI)
True Dana but cut Rasheed not Chauncy, Rip can't carry the team!!!
Michael Kim (11:27 AM)
If they (Orange) win, they (recruits) will come. The weather hasn't affected the basketball team -- who also plays in that same antiquated stadium with four feet of snow.
Jay Crawford (11:27 AM)
ha! if he could he would. his bb eligibilty is gonzo
Justin (Dickinson, ND)
Jay you must be excited about the chance to see Labron and Kobe in the finals
Mike (Watertown, CT)
now the fins just needa get back zach thomas and we can reunite that old dominant defense from a few years back
Dana Jacobson (11:27 AM)
scott i think the problem is who had interest in who. you know?
Jay Crawford (11:27 AM)
i am! cant wait. just hope this time its not a sweep...lol
Ed Hochuli (Chat Ref)
We have a personal foul on Nick, whining to the chat hosts, then leaving. 15 yard penalty. 3rd Down
Dana Jacobson (11:27 AM)
ed nice to have you
Todd (Queens/NY)
The umps were hilarious they just can't do it all the time.
Dana Jacobson (11:27 AM)
any advice for dealing with woody and skip ed?
Calvin W (Clearwater, FL)
Dana, you talked about Kiffin mouthing off before he wins something. Well, he will win something, the SEC East this year.
Jay Crawford (11:28 AM)
nice work ed! nice biceps bro
Matt (New Britian,CT)
nice one
Michael (East Hartford, CT)
I think a good question to have asked Greg Paulus was if he would try to continue his basketball career at Syracuse while he his trying to resume his football career. I'm sure he is a good player since he went to Duke and I'm sure Syracuse could use him since they may be losing two of their guards.
Terry (Atlanta GA)
was he talking about Freeman or Greese?
Jay Crawford (11:28 AM)
freeman
Dana Jacobson (11:28 AM)
oh, ok. i'll take my chances on that one.
Adam (Columbus, OH)
Do you record segments of the episode earlier than they are played Jay? Or should I be extremely impressed by your ability to chat with us while interviewing Rick Stroud?
Shane (Denver)
Melo is starting to understand what he can do for the Nuggets. He's hungry for that championship. Lakers better watch out. Lebron better be scared as well.
Dana Jacobson (11:28 AM)
adam, some things are on tape.
William (Orlando, Fl)
Hey Jay...GO CAVS! GO Buckeyes! GO Browns! GO Indians!
Michael Kim (11:29 AM)
Michael -- NCAA rules prohibit him from continuing his college hoops career.
Jay Crawford (11:29 AM)
nice william! a buckeye moved south eh? the tribe just signed pitcher luis visciano. dont order your playoff tix just yet...
Matt (Dallas, Tx)
Kiffin is a joke
carlos las vegas, nv
seahawks will be in the superbowl this year
Brian (Michigan)
Scott has no idea what he is talking about. You never cut NBA players. The Iverson trade was a salary dump to clear cap space.
Chizzie Thornton, Co
BREAKING NEWS: There has abeen a Jay Crawford sighting. news at 11. sorry jay I couldn't resist
Josh (KY)
Kiffin has proven to be a quality butthead. He is actually making Al Davis look smart for firing him. Now THAT is hard to do.
Kevin (Bronx, NY)
Hey Jay, you're a Cavs fan. Do you think LeBron is more inclined to stay if the Cavs win it all this year?
Douglas Helmke (Toledo, OH)
ha make sure skip doesn't have any Mountain Dew and just mute woody, he's used to it.
Darrell (Orlando, FL):
Why did everyone give Dwight Howard such a hard time about his comments on Van Gundy? Wasn't it you guys who said he wasn't a mature enough superstar and that he doesn't take things as serious as Kobe or Lebron. To me the comment seem like a leader stepping up.
Dan (Austintown, OH)
i love that Woody is back. can you ask him to bring out professor screwloose???
Brian (Michigan)
Greg Paulus' sports career doesn't look promising. He should focus on his education.
Jay Crawford (11:30 AM)
i do kevin. so that means you should root against him so he leaves to ny...lol! actually, i say itrs 50-50 right now if he stays or goes.
Rob (Tallahassee, Fla.)
Micahel - yeah, bb eligibility done. and he's a QB and surely not big enough for the O-line
Dave (Detroit)
Dana would it be possible to prohibit them from talking about the buckeyes in this chat
Dave milwaukee WI
Jason will be a monster in the 3-4, he just not a 4-3 player, wish the Packer would of pick him up
Jay Crawford (11:31 AM)
dave...no! sory bro. you guys can wolverine love with dana...but you have to put up with our buckeye love too...
Matt (Council Bluffs, IA)
Kevin, the Cavs wont win it this year...matter of fact,i don't think the LeBron will win it with the Cavs
andre (harlem ny)
the celtics have enough team chemistry and heart of a champion to shock the world and beat cleveland with out the big ticket.
Chris (Catskill,NY)
Jay no Cavs this year Bro. lol
Tommy (ATL)
Here's a trivia question most people will miss: Who has the 2nd best record in the National League? Answer: The Cincinnati Reds
Moderator (11:31 AM)
Andre gets the award for most over-used cliche's in one post
Terry (Atlanta GA)
Jay....Tribe need more help then that. I hate being a cleveland guy in Atlanta
Jay Crawford (11:31 AM)
yeah, especially after 1995!
Shawn (Pton, IN)
i liked how jeff van gundy was on pti, i believe, and basically called out howard for his comments... cant do that in the playoffs, its basically win or go home, and comments can rip a team apart
Calvin W (Clearwater, FL)
Michael, I didn't know it snowed in the Carrier Dome.
Tom (River North)
Cleveland Indians? Playoffs? Hahahaha. They have the worst record in the AL...
Michael Kim (11:32 AM)
C'mon, Brian - That's not fair. He played four years at an elite basketball program and he's apparently good enough that the SU coaches feel he can help them win. Let's be clear here: The coaches aren't going to risk their reputations and jobs for a publicity stunt. Not at this level.
Jay Crawford (11:32 AM)
the al central is bad tom, be careful.
Rob (Tallahassee, Fla.)
Moderator gets POST OF THE YEAR award
Minard (Ogdensburg, NJ)
How many years does Pualus have to play QB at Cuse according to NCAA eligibility rules?
Jay Crawford (11:33 AM)
one
Matt (Dallas, Tx)
The celtics have no chance to beat the cavs without KG...they barely got by Chicago and who knows if there even gonna get by the Magic
JULIUS (SPRINGFIELD MA)
ILOVE DWIGHT HOWARDS IMMATURE ATTITUDE I HOPE HE ASK LIKE A BIG BABY NEXT GAME TOO I COULD SEE IN FACE LAST GAME HE WAS FRUSTRATED. GLEN DAVIS SHOULD GIVE DWIGHT THE NICKNAME
Michael Kim (11:33 AM)
If Paulus is good enough to play, good for him. If he's not, who can blame him for trying? Who wouldn't take the opportunity if given the chance?
Michael (Houston, TX)
Kudos to the Caps fans who stood and cheered loudly late in the game even as it was obvious their team was about to lose.A lot of other fans in many sports would have been looking for the door. As a Pens fan I was touched by their sincerity.
Scott (Colorado Springs)
Hey Mod you should post this comment because I am going to complain about only getting one post out of 30. Can you guys streamline the process, so you don't have to hand pick what gets posted and what doesn't. I don't bash or rip someone a new one, but someone of the comments that make it by you make me wonder what is going on. Also, you can make some silly comment about here is your post or keep trying.
Jay Crawford (11:33 AM)
scott. here is your post, keep trying.
Dan (Austintown, OH)
i want to see professor screw loose
Jay Crawford (11:34 AM)
standby dan, 2nd down tomorrow, professor screwloose is on the loose. watch and win kiddies, spread the word.
Josh (KY)
Jay, I can't believe that John Calipari shared pizza with you at the Catspy's the other night. You need to show UK some love now!
Michael Kim (11:35 AM)
Michael - I was glad to see how the game ended with class from fans and players. It easily could have become chippy with fights given the intensity of the series before an embarrassing Game 7 for Washington. I saw similar reax when the Wings skated with the Cup in DC.
Jay Crawford (11:35 AM)
it was big fun josh. we hung out at brooklyns pizza downtown. shared many stories and laughs. good dude, coach cal. he's the right man for uk.
Scott (colorado springs)
Wow look at that.
Luke (Auburn)
Michael...as a huge Cuse fan I appreciate you giving Cuse respect as a football team...but they dont deserve it....if it wasnt for basketball we'd have gotten demoted to D2 for our stinkyness...since Mcnabb left its horrifying...all Paulus can do is help, he can't make it worse!!!
Jay Crawford (11:35 AM)
see scott...patience my friend.
Allen (Cedar Shoals)
Can the Tigers win the AL Central
Jay Crawford (11:35 AM)
yep
Dave (Detroit)
This is the most exciting NHL playoffs I can remember
Michael (KY)
UK love would be great Jay!!!!!!
Jay Crawford (11:35 AM)
i gave you guys love after the catspys. there will be more....
Brian (Tulsa Ok.)
How can Skip slam LeBron for being too "flashy" then slam Sidney Crosby for being too "boring"?
Danny (Tonasket, Wa.)
I really can't tell the difference, Woody or Professor Screwloose. LOL
Jay Crawford (11:36 AM)
the trained eye can tell....
Shawn (Pton, IN)
IU and UK will be one of the best rivalries in all of college ball within the next few years - crean and calipari - border states - both schools have a winning tradition... mark my words
William (Orlando, Fl)
Indians will not make playoffs but the current team will make a push after the All-Star break to get everyone excited about next year.
Jay Crawford (11:36 AM)
just as they did last year. dont count them out though. cliff lee is cliff lee again, and if hafner comes back healthy, that division is bad enough for them to stick around.
James Denver
Anyone who thinks the Broncos drafting Moreno was a good idea is as stupid as Joshy Mac! Have you ever watched a Patriots game? Thats the offense Moreno will be in. He will be used as a blocking back in most situations. He wont get the carries or oppurtunity to be elite back. Have the Patriots or that system ever produced a elite back? No!
Todd (Queens/NY)
Good for Paulus. I hope he does well. i am a UVA grad so I do not like anything about Duke but if you can prolong your athletic career before going to the real world go for it!!!
Tommy (ATL)
They announced The Cincinnati Bengals will be featured on HBO's show Hard Knocks. That should be entertaining.
Jay Crawford (11:37 AM)
yeah, it beat out watching grass grow and paint dry...
Tommy (ATL)
Even with all the key playoff games tonight, I am still most excited about the season finale of The Office.
Michael Kim (11:37 AM)
Luke.. No doubt the Cuse football issues have been unacceptable for a program in a big state, in a major conference... BUT... more to your point -- He can't be worse than what's already there.
Michael (KY)
Jay, did I hear sometime last week you were doing something at UK? This may be old news, but what exactly was that? Other than chillin w/ Coach Cal....
William (Orlando, Fl)

Jay Crawford (11:38 AM)
i host the ctaspy awards each year in lex. uk's version of the espys....great event, black tie, much fun
Luke (Auburn)
cliif lee is gonna be gone....5 losses and no run support makes pitchers crazy....he's gonna catch the first plane to NY, they might move him by the deadline this year
Dana Jacobson (11:38 AM)
he's just not with espn anymore. he's got a twitter page and i think a web page if you google it you'll find it

The Phillies have proved over the past few years they are a 2nd half team. They are the comeback kids. Just look at how many comeback wins they had last season and this one.
Jay Crawford (11:38 AM)
he threw a shutout yest fo the win. his stuff is back to where it was last year,. nasty lefty with great command and nice off speed stuff. dudes sick
Jeff (Ohio)
For Hard Knocks are they actually going to be filming all the Bengals arrests this year? $10 says Andre Smith and Rey Mauluaga are arrested at a strip club before October.
Eddie (Crofton, KY)
Dana, no. Just ease up on Woody, you deal with Skips' comments all the time. He can obviously handle it. But, I watch this guy get bashed everytime I see him on ESPN/ESPN2,*Around the Horn*.Good luck. Wasn't complaining, just trying to bring an observation to the surface.
bryan (Dayton)
At least one team from cincy will get some media attention, sure can't get ESPN to show much more than a hit and a pitch on sportscenter and were tied for first place
Matt (New Britian,CT)
what do you know,a dysfunctional team on 'hard knocks'
Calvin W (Clearwater, FL)
Michael, I wouldn't play for Syracuse if they paid me. They have the worst mascot in college sports. Plus, I heard in snows in the Carrier Dome.
Dan (Austintown, OH)
ya Jay is right it takes the trained a to tell the difference. i beleive the both have a "screwloose" though
Matt (Council Bluffs, IA)
Jay,you think Lebron should go play for the Lakers in 2010?
Jay Crawford (11:40 AM)
um...no!
carlos las vegas, nv
the mariners r a better team than the indians
Jay Crawford (11:40 AM)
talk to me in oct carlos, im not yet convinced of that.
Greg (Las Vegas,NV)
Big Papi has no Man Ram! He's gone by the wayside.
Calvin W (Clearwater, FL)
Jay, May is not over yet. Do not doubt the powers of Jimmy Rollins.
Shawn (Pton, IN)
a guy from florida dissing on an orange??? the apocalyse is near
Dave (Detroit)
I hope J Rollins turns it around I got him for dirt cheap on my fantasy team
Chizzie Thornton, Co
Kevin Kernan is awesome I love listening to him.
Jay Crawford (11:40 AM)
man cal, he's gotta show me something though!
Scott (Colorado Springs)
So did Skip and Woody call each other last night to figure out what each other was wearing? Those colors and designs are pretty close.
Michael Kim (11:41 AM)
Calvin -- I would question your sanity if you left Fla for upstate NY. But if you're from the Northeast, what's the difference in weather? Not that much.
William (Orlando, Fl)
Are their any potential arms in the Tribe's minor league system which can settle the rotation?
Jay Crawford (11:41 AM)
yes, loaded with yoiung arms. one is coming up soon they are very excited about!
Dan (Austintown, OH)
the Indians aren't a bad team they just haven't been able to out everything together
James Denver
I agree Ill be watching the Micheal Scott paper company!
Terry (Atlanta)
Does Woody have a twitter or web site?
Jay Crawford (11:42 AM)
i think a website
Aaron (Denver)
Papi is in his mid 30's, the cumilation of injuries is taking its toll
Pat (Denver)
Maybe by having Paulus in there it will create some comptetion for Cameron Dantley , the great Adrien Dantley's son,
Umor (detroit)
Those two lee loses were against who Jey? Verlander the man.
Chizzie Thornton, Co
maybe Ordonez needs to talk to Bonds about the cream
Jay Crawford (11:43 AM)
hey those games were GREAT pitchers duals! verlander is sick!
Matt (New Britian,CT)
woody also has a twiiter
Greg (Las Vegas,NV)
Why don't you guys talk more about the farm system and new up and comers?
Michael Kim (11:43 AM)
Pat -- Competition is always good, in my opinion. Plus, Cameron will always have his game at Notre Dame.
Rob (Tallahassee, Fla.)
Little Papi is getting old, and he's got no other BIG bats surrounding/saving him.
Brian (KY)
How bout them Reds? Best road record in the majors and tied for 1st in the NL Central!
Ryan (Columbus, Ohio)
Jay, do you think Eric Wedge is on the hot seat if something doesn't change soon?
Shawn - Brazil
All the Indians talent is now in the Cubs minor league system in that Derosa trade.
Dan (Austintown, OH)
William the tribe have a great farm system loaded at all positions
Mark (Cincinnati, OH)
Maybe Manny was Ortiz's steroid connection.
Aaron (Denver)
Michael Kim loves that they saved his boy from breaking his neck.
KC (Northglenn,CO)
Hmm I think the Pena already made the catch I think the only reason they helped was so he didn't hurt himself
Chris (Catskill,NY)
what goes here i see only one out of like ten messages go threw how strict is this lol
Jay Crawford (11:44 AM)
he should be. i dont like the way he uses the bully. comes across as arrogant. not sure where the players are on him, but victor martinez called a players only meeting last wek to say quit blaming the manager, or this and that, its up to us. sounds like he might be losing the clubhouse a bit
Rob (Tallahassee, Fla.)
How 'bout them Reds........ baseball season is 162 games long......
Dana Jacobson (11:44 AM)
feel better chris?
Michael Kim (11:44 AM)
Aaron - Funny. I didn't think of it that way.
Veg (Austin, TX)
since you're gonna talk about my O's in 4th down...RANDOM QUESTION...will my O's ever be good again, if so when? PS. does anyone have any pitching we can borrow?
Dave (Detroit)
I'm still trying to figure out how Cliff Lee gave up 6 runs in 4 starts and walked away without a win
Kevin (Bronx, NY)
The Carlos Pena catch shouldn't violate a code. Even though they are division rivals, you don't want to see another guy hurt.
Danny (Tonasket, Wa.)
Jay, Pena getting help in the dugout is just players helping out someone who may be a teammate later in the year or next year the way players move around in MLB anymore.
Douglas Helmke (Toledo, OH)
The O's definately may have broke the baseball code. But as my man lil wayne would say, that's good humanity, colors make no difference.
Ryan (West Chester, PA)
If Pena falls and injures himself in the dugout, everyone would have been screaming at the Baltimore dugout for not helping.
Jay Crawford (11:45 AM)
i hate that the o's are bad. i became a fan as a young kid when they were important. i miss those days. gee, i also miss my big wheel. has anyone in here seen it?
Rob (Tallahassee, Fla.)
I'm wondering if Little Papi was on the same girl-juice as Manny?????
Umor (detroit)
Verlander foung his curve again. And Lee slider a beast.
Greg (Las Vegas,NV)
when did this turn into the indians fan site?
Calvin W (Clearwater, FL)
Michael, you missed the joke. In a earlier post, you mentioned Syracuse athletes playing in four feet of snow. The Carrier Dome is a domed stadium, hence the name, Carrier Dome.
Todd (Queens/NY)
Michael, Syracuse football has a very difficult task landing top recruits. They have had too many coaching changes which scares off recruits. I don't see them be relevant anymore.
Jay Crawford (11:46 AM)
both proved twice in the same week there among the leagues best when healthy.
Dana Jacobson (11:46 AM)
greg, when jay got back on
Eddie (ky)
Jay.. "Violate baseball code"? Really? So, is the "code" for baseball to let people hurt themselves? Watch someone hurt themselves when they can assist/help? wow.
Paul (West Palm Beach Fl.)
The Baltimore players showed class in helping Pena. This is baseball not hockey. If that was a player going into the Capitals bench they would have been Giving him the business for sure.
Jay Crawford (11:47 AM)
eddie, you never played ball right? you just dont help the opponent. i ddidnt right the code, im just saying... what do we thing room???
Jason (Boston)
Where's the love for hockey? The most exciting playoffs of recent memory and we're stuck talking about freakin Greg Paulus?!
Jay Crawford (11:47 AM)
3rd hockey segment today jason!
James Denver
Do 95% of my comments not get posted because Im so long winded comments keep going and going or is it because Im a A** hole?
Jays Big Wheel
I left when you got that two wheeler! =P
Moderator (11:47 AM)
thats a tough call, James
Jay Crawford (11:47 AM)
funny!!!!
Perry(taunton,mass)
maybe jay crawford and skip can race around the studio on big wheels? and if skip don't i will.
Jay Crawford (11:48 AM)
id mop him up. 3 time westchester estates big leage champ here.
Shawn (Pton, IN)
check canada aye?
Greg (Las Vegas,NV)
Dana does better interviews than Jay, I lost respect for Jay because he loves the Indians so much.
Brian (Chicago)
Sorry I got to this chat late, But please tell Skip that the Bears overpaid for Jay Cutlers Overrated a**
Wertz (Johnstown pa, Home of Slap Shot)
ya, that shows some good sportsmanship from the O's and respect for pena's effort in that catch
Jay Crawford (11:48 AM)
greg, im not a fan of your interviews either.
Dave (Detroit)
Veralander or Greinke for cy young?
Moderator (11:48 AM)
Halladay
chauncey (teaneck)
no of course you don't help them up they can help themselves besides if you look at the play he wasn't going to be seriously hurt anyway
Chizzie Thornton, Co
This question is for anyone. Do you think they will be a pro team (NHL,MLB,NFL,NBA) in Las Vegas?
Jay Crawford (11:48 AM)
eventually
Rob (Tallahassee, Fla.)
Considering the chances of injury falling into a "modern" dugout/PIT - I think it good.... hate to see a season end because a knew got blown out because everyone conveniently "moved"
Matt (New Britian,CT)
what seats are better ay fenway? outfield grandstand or bleachers?
Veg (Austin, TX)
Jay...Big wheels are great, do you remember the Green Machine?
Scott (Holland, MI)
Hockey getting some LOVE today!!! Amazing good job guys!!!
Jay Crawford (11:49 AM)
loved the green machine too.
Jeff (Ohio)
Jay at least mention his name! Hector Rondon, 21-year old flamethrower. Tops out at 95-96 with movement and a filthy slider. Saw him in AA Akron on Tuesday and he looked bored. He will be up very soon.
KC (Northglenn,CO)
Jay I think Pena already caught the ball they just helped the guy from falling into the dugout and breaking his back or something.
Michael Kim (11:49 AM)
Todd... I hear what you're saying but you're also chatting with a Missouri fan who saw several decades of terrible (to put it nicely) football. They CAN be relevant. Paulus isn't going to do it this year. BUT, if he comes in and does well, what's to say an under the radar QB comes in and decides he can play there -- and starts winning. No one heard of Brad Smith coming out of Ohio -- and all he did at Mizzou was pass for 8,000 yards and run for 4,000 in his career. That opened the eyes for Chase Daniel...
Jay Crawford (11:49 AM)
nice jeff! i didnt because it might as well me jeff klinger...means nothing to no one yet...but this kid will be nasty!!!
lawrence (stowe vt)
Baseball players only help each other take roids dont ya know
Luke (Auburn)
Oh come on Greg you gotta respect a real...dedicated fan...he roots for bums mosta the time...gotta appreciate that
Greg (Las Vegas,NV)
jay i hope you know im kidding, you guys put on a great morning show
Scott(Colorado Springs)
So earlier, Pete Rose was saying he thinks AROD should make it into the HOF, but says Steroids is worst then betting on baseball. Why is Pete Rose getting airtime for HOF talk? One crooked player standing up for another. That is funny.
Jay Crawford (11:50 AM)
hey luke! and i liked you...and your teams are???
Aaron (Denver)
Regular season opposing Dugout saves player Playoffs opposing player is on his own.
Chris (Catskill,NY)
Jay, I feel your pain look at my Yankees take me back to where we where unbeatable lol
Steve (INDIANA)
Roy Halladay is the most underrated pitcher in baseball. As a Razorback fan I want to see Lee repeat, but Halladay deserves it.
Ryan (Columbus, Ohio)
Hey Dana, do you think we're heading for a rematch of the Stanley Cup finals? I think my Pens could hang around with the Wings this time.
Jeff (Ohio)
Sorry Umor, Lee barely throws a slider. He relies on straight fastball command and location, with the occasional curve and changeup thrown in.
Dana Jacobson (11:50 AM)
ryan, i would like to see it.
Kevin (Bronx, NY)
I'm interested in seeing how the Magic rebound from that catastrophic ending in Boston. I will most likely watch that game instead of the other playoff games.
Michael Kim (11:51 AM)
Steve -- Who is underrating Halladay? I know he's not getting as much pub as someone in a major US market but baseball watchers certainly know.
Shawn (Pton, IN)
i think my posts get denied, simply caz theyre too clever and witty... id end up taking jays spot if any1 else other than the moderator viewed 'em
Jay Crawford (11:51 AM)
jeff, he works the slider just right. he's at his best when his off speed stuff is for strikes. his fastball is sneaky too!
Dana Jacobson (11:51 AM)
kevin, doesn't anyone flip anymore???
Paul (West Palm Beach Fl.)
I think that baseball, football and basketball players have more respect for the players on the other team then hockey players do.
torrey (houma)
this is my favorite show but after today i might have to rethink that because it seems like you all have your pepole picked
Pat (Denver)
I think the casino/gaming industry makes housing a Professional team in Vegas a touchy subject for league offficials
Perry(taunton,mass)
do i have to complain to get on the board?
Josh (Fort Worth, TX)
>Let's not talk down on sportsmanship being displayed in baseball. Of everything that has been going on, Skip has a problem with this. I can show my kids this and teach them something - talk down on it.
Michael Kim (11:52 AM)
Perry - stop your complaining!
Umor (detroit)
Mike Kim. Looking good wearing the mizzou colors.
Jay Crawford (11:52 AM)
not so sure paul. the hockey handshake is one of sports great traditions. bash each others teeth in for 7 games. then man up, shake hands, and bury the hockey stick hatchetts.
Dan (Austintown, OH)
Jay lets talk some football. what do you think the Browns will be up to this year. some guys have them rated the worst team in the league last year they were the favorite to make a huge turn around. so since they are projected to be horrible do you think they will make the playoffs and knock of the Steelers from the top of the AFC North?
Michael Kim (11:52 AM)
Umor - adjust the color on your TV... I'm wearing blue and gold -- more Michigan than Mizzou.
Dana Jacobson (11:52 AM)
torrey, you'll stay. you know it
Calvin W (Clearwater, FL)
Missouri might be above average in football right now, but it doesnn't make the relevant. Michael, when they will the Big 12 is when they become relevant.
Jay Crawford (11:52 AM)
better than last year, not better than the steelrs though
Rob (Tallahassee, Fla.)
Jay - I dare any of you going staunchly FOR "the old code"... to take a running start and, not even playing a ball, to jump into any of these modern dugouts without hurting yourself.
Jay Crawford (11:53 AM)
part of the game...let it go then...
NUF CED(RAIDER NATION)
WHY ARE YOU GUYS TRYING TO FORCE THE NHL ON US??? NHL IS ONLY GOOD IN PERSON.
Paul (West Palm Beach Fl.)
Great show again, it's about time you start talking about the Phillie's as they are the World Champs and the pictching staff has been horrible top to bottom.
Matt (New Britian,CT)
complain,complain,complain,complain. just a test
Veg (Austin, TX)
The reason why the orioles helped the rays player, so they would actually get mentioned on 1st and 10. espn can you show a little more love to my O's!
Steve (Mastic, NY)
My posts get denied because I hate on Skip.
Jay Crawford (11:54 AM)
not true. make them good. you'll get on. i'll see to it...
Steve (Mastic, NY)
He already made the catch, they didn't help him make it, they saved him from busting himself.
Perry(taunton,mass)
skip and scoop need there segment. Called "the scoop with skip"? because when there on together. knowledges it at the table.
Justin (Dickinson, ND)
Hey Jay have you and Dana ever thought of debating and having Skip moderate?
Jay Crawford (11:54 AM)
yep! we might one day.
Steve (Mastic, NY)
TY Woody Paige, right on.
KC (Northglenn,CO)
AH YES THE FAMOUS BLACKBOARD. THank you Woody
Jay Crawford (11:55 AM)
grandmother?????
Paul (West Palm Beach Fl.)
Way to go guys. Woody I love that Blackboard.
Michael Kim (11:55 AM)
Calvin -- How about this? I think MIzzou is "relevant" -- but not dominant. A #1 ranking in the past two years and playing for a BCS conference title two straight years qualifies as relevant, in my opinion. But I'll agree they're not upper tier with Okla, Texas, Florida, Ohio State, USC.
lawrence (stowe vt)
Human nature took over not the baseball code
Jay Crawford (11:55 AM)
i hope youre right lawrence.
Justin (Dickinson, ND)
Jay, who would be loud like Skip, lol
Jay Crawford (11:55 AM)
MEEEEEEEEEEEE
Todd (Queens/NY)
Calvin, I agree with you. Missouri has only been competitive since Chase Daniels has been there. Let's see how they do over the next 4 years.
Brennan - Chicago
NO way you help Pena, you let him fall and bust his @**! One less bat in the line up!
Ryan (Columbus, Ohio)
I think Pena had already made the catch, and the Orioles bench was preventing an injury. Classy move by the bench to help make sure a player can keep playing.
Tristan Pierce (Palm Bay,FL)
I could see if he was still in the act of catching it but it looks like he already has it and its an out
Andy(Canton,Ohio)
I disagree with Skip. It's great sportsmanship. Reminds me of the Dbacks a few years ago helping the Home teams grounds crew put the tarp down when the wind was blowing bad.
Paul (West Palm Beach Fl.)
Skip were you raised in the jungle by a bunch of animals? Grow a Heart Please.
Lane Kiffin (Nashville)
People who complain about not getting posted will work at gas stations
Jay Crawford (11:56 AM)
funny lane
Heath(Bham,AL)
Skip thats terrible whoever thoght Woody would be the voice of reason
Wertz (Johnstown pa, Home of Slap Shot)
Skip doesn't like hockey but flips out when a hockey related thing happens in baseball he promotes the hockey decision lol
Dan (Austintown, OH)
Jay do you think Pryor will progress as a passer the way the coaches are hoping?
matt (newyork)
Skip, you would be singing a different tune if he fell on his head and became paralized...You would have said why did everyone just stand there! Those players did the right thing
Jay Crawford (11:57 AM)
i hear he has. we'll see. i have my doubts though. may be the michael vick of the big 10.
Todd (Queens/NY)
Michael, The BCS is a farce and so is the ranking system so i do not think it is a fair comparison or makes Mizzo relevant.
Justin (Dickinson, ND)
awesome, lets keep woody and trade skip away for a late round draft pick
Drew (Buffalo)
NHL on high def is as good as in person. Why are you writing in all caps?
scott (Maine.)
I have no respect for Jay his onesided commentary for the indians and lebron are uncalled for.I cheer for other teams just in spite.
Dana Jacobson (11:57 AM)
drew, i wish it was but i don't think it is sadly. and they're just yelling at you!
Dave (Detroit)
we would all be bashing them if thay had let him fall and he was seriously injured
Michael Kim (11:57 AM)
Todd -- I guess we'll disagree on this one. But I enjoyed the exchange of ideas.
Jay Crawford (11:57 AM)
come on scott, they're in fun! you know, like games, and sports...fun. this isnt the nightly news for crying out loud!
NUF CED(RAIDER NATION)
IS IT PINK SHIRT DAY? DANA,SKIP AND WOODY?
carlos las vegas, nv
u guys do an awesome job everyday keep up the freat work and can u give me a shout out plz
Steve (Mastic, NY)
You never show my comments, wahhhhh! I'm a crybaby because I never have anything good to say, wahhhhhhhhhhh!
Eddie (Ky)
Skip!!!!!!!! Are you kidding me... "Code"!! That's rediculous! Sports is sports, an out is an out. Where and Why did Values and Ethics go out of ANY sport?! sheesh
Jay Crawford (11:58 AM)
agreed
KC (Northglenn, CO)
LOL I didn't know Grandmothers could play baseball. LOL Woody
Jeff (Atl)
So we still consider OSU an elite team? Why exactly?
Jay Crawford (11:58 AM)
check the top top 10 the past 5 years
Adam G. Tampa, FL
Hey Jay! Just got out the dentist watched you guys on a flat screen while I was in the chair. lol
Kevin (Bronx, NY)
Skip is looking too much into the O's stoping Pena from falling. Just because they saved him from a possible injury doesn't mean their soft.
Mark (Cincinnati, OH)
In football, opposing players help eachother up all the time. That's a far more brutal sport.
William (Orlando, Fl)
You all do a great job...this is how I get my day started every day.
Justin (Dickinson, ND)
good show guys
Steve (Mastic NY)
And they wonder why nobody watches hockey
Paul (West Palm Beach Fl.)
See what Mathew said. I rest my case Jay.
Dave milwaukee WI
Where is hockey in the rating
Adam G.
WOODY WOODY WOODY WOODY
Tom (River North)
Watching that replay, it looks like Pena's catcher really prevented him from falling over.
Dan (Austintown, OH)
i love watching the second airing of ESPNFT
Scott (Holland, MI)
Michael, we'll see what happens to USC football but I think Mizzou could win Big 12 this year if they would only play some D!!!
Dan (Austintown, OH)
i think i am goingto put my pink shirtr on later
Mark nj
Jay how do you feel about your team ( Indians) being the focus of a Major Movie Joke like Major Leage?
Dana Jacobson (12:01 PM)
folks, talk to you next week.
Jay Crawford (12:02 PM)
i loved it! one of the best sports movies ever of course
Perry(taunton,mass)
EEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPNNNNNNNNN
Lance (New York, N.Y.)
Thanks for everything, First Take crew. Fantastic...can't wait for tomorrow...can't wait for tonight, 7 P.M. EST for the Bill Simmons chat.
Kevin (Bronx, NY)
Great show and great commentary.
Michael Kim (12:02 PM)
Scott - even I won't go that far. I think the Tigers might surprise some people this year -- MIGHT.
NUF CED(RAIDER NATION)
HEY LANE ISN'T UNNIVERSITY OF TENNEESSEE IN KNOXVILLE!?! GENIUS.
JOHN (BRISTOL, CT)
I hate to say it, Skip is right, you don't help an opponent
Aaron (Denver)
To quote Jesse "The Body" Ventura: "Win if you can, lose if you must, but always...always...cheat."
Danny (Tonasket, Wa.)
"If you're not cheating, you're not trying to win." ????? Doesn't that make steroid use OK? Or was he being tongue in cheek?
KC (Northglenn.CO)
I agree with Barnaby. If that was hockey the Players would be punching, kicking, elbowing the guy.
Jay Crawford (12:03 PM)
tongue firmly in cheek
Lance (New York, N.Y.)
By the way, Skip...Skip...Skip, I said this earlier in the week, I'll say it again. Sports chivalry is dead, sir.
Eddie (KY)
GREAT SHOW, all.... Skip, you left a bad taste... now I gotta wait 24hrs for you to redeem yourself... that's pitiful!
Wertz (Johnstown pa, Home of Slap Shot)
have a great weekend everyone!!!
Umor (detroit)
Gotta Go, get a little wreck on my B-Day. Hope the wing don't blow it. else I'll be seeing triple tomorrow.Go WINGS.
Tristan Pierce (Palm Bay,FL)
hockey players are the thugs. . .JUST KIDDING
Todd (Queens/NY)
Michael, mos definately!!!
Robert I. (Fox Lake, IL)
Now I've got to ask the Pros: Do you think that the NHL would be more popular if kids could play hockey more readily as kids as they can with baseball, basketball, and football? I get the feeling that since more people casually play those sports, they buy more of their equipment, and therefore advertising spots during those telecasts for those sports are worth more. Just wondering where that opinion lies.
Veg (Austin, TX)
Great show and chat. woody we love you! please bring him back more often!
Tyler (Artley)
Skip, its amazing to me that you would chastise the Orioles for helping Pena. If Pena does fall there is no doubt he would get hurt. It looks like he would have landed on his head, so its a definite concussion and who is to say there would not be significant brain damage for hitting the concrete. That hole in your chest is where a heart belongs but you would know nothing about that.
Dan (Austintown, OH)
OSU is an elite just because they haven't won a bowl dosen't mean anything we werre within seconds of beating Texas who was in the running for the BCS all year
Rob (Tallahassee, Fla.)
Lane -- if you don't win a BUNCH of games quick, you and your dad will both be working at gas stations this time next year
Jay Crawford (12:05 PM)
1 national title, and 2 national title game losses in the past 8 years makes you elite. not the best, but certainly elite. granted the big 10 is AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWful!
Perry(taunton,mass)
jay you think kidd could end up on the lakers next year?
Chad (Las Vegas)
HA HA HA HA HA That is funny. A team in the Big 12 playing D that is really funny. At least until Bo Pelini gets his recruits going and is the only Big 12 team to play D in a few years.
Jay Crawford (12:05 PM)
dont rule it out
Chad (Las Vegas)
Dan (Austintown, OH) CLOSE DOESN"T COUNT. OSU is OVERRATED!!!
Jay Crawford (12:05 PM)
who's your team chad?
Calvin W (Clearwater, FL)
I wanted to choose none of the above. The playoff game I most want to see is the lacrosse quarterfinal between Princeton and Cornell.
Tom (River North)
I've got no problem with Jay rooting for his teams. Everyone that talks sports in some capacity is a fan of some team, so why not talk about it. Luckily, we have Dana to balance him out.
Michael Kim (12:06 PM)
Chad -- How long are you giving Bo to get that program back to where it was?
Jay Crawford (12:06 PM)
alright, peace out room! talk tomorrow!
Chad (Las Vegas)
2 years and Bo Pelini will have the Blackshirts back at Nebraska. ANY TEAM that plays D in the Big 12 will have a shot at the title in that confernce.
Michael Kim (12:14 PM)
Chad - Nebraska has to get with the program offensively. Defense alone won't do it. People underestimate the defensive talent Oklahoma and Texas have. They just happened to go up against some really good offenses in recent years in the bowls.
Michael Kim (12:14 PM)
Guys, that's all for me today. See you tomorrow.
