Mike Wallace (1:30 PM)
I'm happy for everyone who has signed on here today. Let's recap the Darlington Race and talk about the All-Star race. I'll be in the All-Star showdown this Saturday night.
daniel chesnee sc
with harvick 11 place finish in darlington do u see him coming back and making the chase?
Mike Wallace (1:31 PM)
Yes I do. RCR has a great team. They'll rebound from the difficulties they've had with the crew chief change, and Harvick will be in the race.
Tony, FL
What do you think about Mark Martin running a half season a couple of years ago, and it looking like he's going to retire and now he's signed a full time deal and he's winning races?
Mike Wallace (1:32 PM)
I think it's absolutely wonderful that Mark Martin has made himself content in life as a race car driver. He's 50, with a competitive race team and a chance to win a championship, and he's content. It's great proof that drivers don't have to be young to win races.
Gerald (Chicago)
Should NASCAR have more or less road courses on the circuit?
Mike Wallace (1:33 PM)
I think that's to be debated. I don't hear anybody lobbying for more. NASCAR racing has been brought up and developed on oval tracks, and I think it should stay that way.
Darrell (Petal, MS)
Mike, I am a Hendrick fan and my fiance is a Roush fan. We will be driving through Charlotte in a couple of weeks and only have time to stop and tour one shop. Which shop has the best tour.
Mike Wallace (1:34 PM)
Hendrick has a nice museum, so I'd go on their tour. That being said, Roush has a nice facility also. That said, you might have a chance to tour both, because they're located within four miles of one another.
Stu (Madison, Va.)
I was at the race in Darlington last weekend and it was awesome. In my opinion, nothing at the track needs to change (except getting out of the parking lot after the race). Who surprised you the most on Saturday night?
Mike Wallace (1:35 PM)
I think seeing Joey Logano run as well as he did was a bit of a surprise. He hasn't impressed much this year, and it's a tribute to him that he could go to a challenging place like Darlington and finish well.
Adam (Galax, VA)
Who has been hurt the most by the no testing rule?
Mike Wallace (1:36 PM)
I would say the rookies are really the only ones who have been hurt by it. Is there a particular driver? No, not really.
Joe (Fleetwood PA)
Hey Mike, Seems that Smoke has been more consistent than Kyle Busch, but Busch has more wins, do you think Smoke will have more wins given his performace at the upcoming summer tracks.
Mike Wallace (1:37 PM)
I think Stewart will garner a lot of success. He's shown consistency with a reworked program, so having success at this point means there can be only better things to come.
Tom (Danbury,CT)
What was your reaction when you heard about Mayfield's suspension?
Mike Wallace (1:38 PM)
I was shocked by it. We don't know the exact details yet, so we want to know what he was suspended for. As drivers, we don't have a list of banned substances, so we'd like to know.
Adam (Galax, VA)
Everybody says Brad K's win at Taladega was a fluke. With his 7th place finish at Darlington, is he for real?
Mike Wallace (1:39 PM)
He's definitely for real. Let's all keep in mind that he was in a Hendrick car with Hendrick engineering and Hendrick power both times. Even though he won Talladega under Phoenix racing, it was a Hendrick program.
flynn (bama)
Who are you driving for in the showdown?
Mike Wallace (1:40 PM)
Bob Jenkins, the number 37 car, which is a teammate to the car that John Andretti normally drives, but Tony Raines will drive for the next few weekends due to John's commitment to the Indianapolis 500.
Brian (Louisville)
Does the Stewart/Haas team get into victory lane before the Chase starts?
Mike Wallace (1:41 PM)
Yes. It very well could be as quick as next week.
Micah (Encinitas, CA)
To win or be a top team in Nascar... what percentage is car/equipment and what is driver skill?
Mike Wallace (1:42 PM)
I think you'd have to put it in an almost equal comparison. We'd need to characterize car/team as an equal thing, which would be sixty percent. Forty percent would be the driver. It takes a combination of everything to win pit stops and races.
Steve (WI)
Hey Mike, Why do you think Kenseth and the #17 team have been struggling so bad since the first two races? Thanks
Mike Wallace (1:43 PM)
It's very hard to say. I don't know I have an answer for that, but neither did Matt. I asked him about it, and sometimes things are just a challenge. The organization itself is probably struggling a little bit.
Clay (Charlotte)
Mike, I'll be sitting in turn 4 watching you Friday. What, in your mind, makes the All-Star Race special?
Mike Wallace (1:44 PM)
It's just that it's a big event with a go-for-broke attitude. You can race a little wild...you don't have to race intelligently.
Mike Wallace (1:44 PM)
Thanks to everyone for chatting today. Keep your thoughts up, and watch us Sunday on ESPN. Hopefully we can talk after we win the All-Star race!
