Terry Blount (2:00 PM)
Hey there folks. Contrary to popular opinion, I wasn't playing golf yesterday. Wish I was. I was MC for a national tourism event at a golf club. But I'm here today ready for you guys to fire away.
Hook (Southern Maryland)
I know the capital of NASCAR is Charlotte, but why not have the All-Star race at other tracks?
Terry Blount (2:01 PM)
I couldn't agree more. Making it a real all-star event by moving it around to different venues. But the teams don't want to do it because it would cost them a week at home.
Ryan( Arlington,TX)
Terry, Do you think Rick starts looking at changing things for the 88 now that he is going to be back at the track?
Terry Blount (2:02 PM)
Rick still is evaluating the situation, but something must change if it doesn't get any better.
Adam (Galax, VA)
Could testing at non-santicioned tracks actually help Dale Jr. with his pit road problems?
Terry Blount (2:03 PM)
No, I really doubt it. It's hard to simulate pit road when no other cars are out there.
lynn,va
what is the longest race (not the pepsi 400) have you witnessed
Terry Blount (2:04 PM)
You probably mean the Coca-Cola 600. Other than that, I've seen some Pocono races that seemed like I was sitting there for a month.
JD (Boston)
Is is a NASCAR rule to change the format of the all star race every year? They tinker with lap counts, inversions, segments- you would think they would have hit on a winning formula by now....
Terry Blount (2:05 PM)
The constant changes relly confuse fans and water down the event. If they want to change things, move it around.
Devin (Johnson City TN)
If drivers and teams want to stay at home on all star weekend, we should make it a three track rotation. Charlotte, The Rock and North Wilkesboro.
Terry Blount (2:05 PM)
Not gonna happen.
lynn,va
I meant the race in daytona that went till 2 am
Terry Blount (2:07 PM)
That would be the one. But i say in the media center at Cali last year until after midnight (PT) working because they finally postponed the race at 11 p.m.
Larry (MI)
Have you heard any results in regards to Bill Elliot trying to break the speed record at 'Dega this afternoon?
Terry Blount (2:08 PM)
BNo, but this is a bit phoney. A few years ago, Rusty Wallace drove a Cup car there without the restrictor plate on it and did over 225 mph without even trimming out the car.
JD (Boston)
With Cup venues like Kentuck waiting their turn, has NASCAR considered having new tracks alternate years? A date evry other year would be better than no date for some track owners- I realize that pool is small between ISC and Smith
Terry Blount (2:09 PM)
No one is willing to do that at this point.

NASCAR TRIVIA QUESTION TO TERRY BLOUNT AT 2.20 pm HI TERRY WHO WERE THE ALABAMA GANG
Terry Blount (2:12 PM)
It was a group of drivers who set up shop in Hueytown, Ala. (my dad's home town, by the way). Bobby Allison, Donnie Allison, Red Farmer, Neil Bonnett, Davey Allison, Hut Stricklin.
Adam (Galax, VA)
In Charlotte, which drivers would you put as the favorite?
Terry Blount (2:13 PM)
The usual suspects _ Gordon, Martin, Johnson, Kyle Busch. I'll also throw in Denny Hamlin
Larry (MI)
Who do you think gets the fan vote this weekend?
Terry Blount (2:13 PM)
Maybe AJ.
Patrick (Agawam, MA)
Is the Nationwide COT program on track, or are Cup issues with tires and so on slowing things down?
Terry Blount (2:15 PM)
Looks like it wil be 2011 before NW goes to the COT chassis. Maybe when they switch they will put some limits on Cup stars in the series.
Larry (MI)
Do you think F1 will revoke the new budget cap or will Ferrari leave F1 in 2010?
Terry Blount (2:15 PM)
Ferrari isn't leaving. Where would they go? Some sort of compromise will be reached.
devin howell michigan
terry i am going graham for the indy 500 what do you think about this pick
Terry Blount (2:17 PM)
It's a bit of a longshot, but not impossible. I'm picking Kanaan to finally win it.
beck,va
what is the best places to eat around charlotte
Terry Blount (2:18 PM)
Near the track, Five Guys is an awesome Burger and fries. Best you can find anywhere.
RANDY INDIANA
i think danica patrick will win the indy 500 next week what do u think?
Terry Blount (2:19 PM)
Highly unlikely, but if it happens, the speculation will be endless about her going to NASCAR next year.
RANDY INDIANA
DO U THINK KAHNE CAN WIN THIS WEEK AND NEXT WEEK LIKE HE DID LAST YEAR?
Terry Blount (2:20 PM)
No. I don't think the team is running that well. But I'd love to see it for RPM and Dodge.
JR (CO)
Terry, is there a buzz around Charlotte during all star week? Never been , but Ive wondered if home races create energy around the city or if it's always NASCAR crazy. Thanks
Terry Blount (2:21 PM)
I wouldn't call it a buzz, especially not for the all-star race. People in Charlotte are used to NASCAR events.
Chad (Las Vegas)
How's this for a prediction. Danica moves to NASCAR next year and at the Daytona 500 JPM wrecks her and they get into a fight.
Terry Blount (2:21 PM)
Well, that certainly would give me plenty to write about.
Daniel (Atlanta, GA)
Do you think Jimmie Johnson will return to form at his best track, Lowe's Motor Speedway, for the All Star Race or the 600?
Terry Blount (2:22 PM)
Yes I do.
Jon (Boston, MA)
Do you see Jr. making a run this summer or continue to fizzle while the rest of Hendrick & SHR runs up front?
Terry Blount (2:23 PM)
Junior probably will get a win somewhere this summer, but I don't see him making the Chase.
Ted (AZ)
Do you consider the Hendrick program to be superior in all aspects (Drivers, Engines, Cars, Crews etc...) over Roush? Thanks Terry
Terry Blount (2:23 PM)
Yes, but not by a lot. The advantages are very small.
Scott (Indy)
I'm going out on a limb...Ryan Briscoe for the 500. Ok, it isn't much of a limb with him running a Penske.
Terry Blount (2:24 PM)
Wouldn't surprise me a bit. Ryan's extremely talented and a great guy to boot.
Shawn (NY)
If Danica wins the 500 then it is a lock that she will leave for Nascar. All of the recent 500 winners are doing it w/ the exception of Dixon. Considering she is not that great at road and street courses she may opt for Nascar anyway the same way Hornish did. Not sure if she would be successful in Nascar, but she would at least have a good shot at getting voted into the All Star race.
Terry Blount (2:25 PM)
I think DP should stay in IndyCar, however, she will get enromous financial offers to switch if she wins Indy.
chris (florida)
What with Nascar not talking to Mayfield he can only talk with Dr. Black!! WOW not right
Terry Blount (2:27 PM)
Mayfield made his own bed here. Whatever he was taking, he should have cleared it with the doctors. However, I do feel NASCAR needs to reveal the substance.
Lou (Las Vegas NV)
Which issue do you think Nascar should address first - (a) the "Start and Parks", (b) the outdated "Top 35" or (c) the drop in ratings and attendance?
Terry Blount (2:28 PM)
Top 35 rule. They already are doing what they can in this economy to bolster attendance.
RANDY INDIANA
TERRY WHO DO U THINK WINS THE ALL-STAR RACE AND THE COKE 600?
Terry Blount (2:30 PM)
Gordon the all-star race. JJ the 600.
Cory, Geneva, IL
When Jr. or anyone else outside of the chase hoping to make it, is one of the last two or three cars on the lead lap, why don't they stay out under caution to lead a lap, get the points, then start about where they would have been anyway?
Terry Blount (2:31 PM)
Sometimes they do.
Scott (Atlanta)
FOR A THIRD TIME - Do you see SHR adding a third the second half of the season based on how good they are running, and if so, who might fill the seat?
Terry Blount (2:32 PM)
No, they won't add a third car unless the sponosorship is in place. I don't see that happening at the moment. And it's extremely difficult to add a car at mid-season.
Felipe (Dallas)
Hey terry.......Any chance JPM runs the Indy 500 in the future? My two fav JPM races were the Indy 500 domination and passing Michael Shumacher in Brazil his first year.
Terry Blount (2:33 PM)
Ahh Felipe, my weekly JPM guy. He won't run Indy unless he isn't running NASCAR because it can't be done any more since they moved the start time at Indy to later in the day.
Ed, Hartford
Re: Mayfield. Remember Tim Richmond? Did NASCAR ever say what he was on? I remember it being coverd up.
Terry Blount (2:34 PM)
No, but that was a completely different system and it involved an illness.
Devin (Johnson City TN)
Are you going to follow Pat Pattersons advice and boycott KB the next time he has success. I think the only way he will learn to take the good with the bad is if yall teach him. Long overdue if you ask me
Terry Blount (2:35 PM)
Not our job to teach him lessons. They race, we cover it.
chadc bardstown ky
when tony jr gets fired will ron malace take over or somebody else what do u think
Terry Blount (2:36 PM)
Lot of assumptions there. We don't know Tony Jr. will get fired. If that happened, I would pick Malec.
Chad (Las Vegas)
Isn't there a major differnce between drugs in NASCAR and other sports. Other sports certain drugs can help your preformance other don't but you can't kill somebody either way. No matter what the drug is in NASCAR you could kill someone. HUGE difference in my book.
Terry Blount (2:37 PM)
Absolutely correct Chad. Zero tolerance is required when someone is driving a race car at 200 mph.
Scott (Indy)
Will NASCAR try to do anything with the "satellite" teams? Isn't half the field going to be either Hendricks, Roush or Gibbs cars in the next 5 or 10 years?
Terry Blount (2:38 PM)
It looks that way, but I don't see it changing. Some of these teams couldn't survive withput latching on to a bigger organization.
JD (Boston)
Who has the most power to get their way within their own series- France, George, or Ecclestone?
Terry Blount (2:39 PM)
Excellent question. All three are a huge amount of power. But Tony is an absolute ruler in IndyCar.
Rick (Pittsburgh, PA)
This past week on the F1 Race, there were reports that in the next year or so there would be TWO US F1 teams... do you hear anything about that? Only one I knew was USGPE.
Terry Blount (2:41 PM)
The only one I know about is the Charoltte team, but I wouldn't even consider doing it unless I knew F1 was coming back to the U.S.
Felipe (Dallas)
What do you think about the new F1 point system. Personally I think it is very dumb to only go by wins and nothing else.
Terry Blount (2:42 PM)
I'm in favor of more emphasis on winning, but there is a flaw here. The odds are good you could go to the last event with the title already clinched if one guy has won two more races than everyone else. That's usually the case in F1.
sean (chandler az)
Who cares about indycars its boring and i thought this was a nascar chat.
Terry Blount (2:43 PM)
This is a racing chat. IRL, NHRA and F1 questions are welcome.
Tom (Danbury,CT)
Don't Junior fans remember the last time Eury left? Junior got much worse with Rondeau
Terry Blount (2:44 PM)
Maybe he needed a much better CC than Rondeau. And Tony Jr. wasn't the CC then. It was Tony Sr.
Tommy (ATL)
I heard reports that the substance Mayfield had taken was Claritan D. Have you heard this?
Terry Blount (2:45 PM)
His team says it was, along with a perscription med, and that caused the positive test. NASCAR officials say no.
sean (chandler az)
Kurt busch is underrated as a favorite for the championship 10 top twenties and a 23rd with 7 cylinders
Terry Blount (2:46 PM)
Kurt's having a great year because the Penske organization is much improved and the new Dodge engine produces more HP.
Chad (Las Vegas)
If the substance was in fact Claratin D would that be the reason NASCAR isn't releasing the drug because Claratin D is a sponsor of a team.
Terry Blount (2:48 PM)
No, they never have released the substance in any of these cases. And Jack Daniels also is a sponsor, as it Bud, but we don't expect drivers to use them while racing.
Jill (FL)
In your opinion, which drivers have had the worst luck so far this year?
Terry Blount (2:50 PM)
Martin has some terrible luck at the start of the year, but the team has overcome it. Vickers and Harvick also have had some tough breaks, but you know what they say _ you make you own luck.
Tommy (ATL)
what about viagra?
Terry Blount (2:51 PM)
No longer a sponsor, but very funny.
Joe (Missoula, Mt)
The problem I think with the Satellite teams like Stewart Haas is that its not fair to other teams that don't have the alliances such as Robby Gordon? The way the operate now is not the way Alan Kulwicki ran his team. Do you think its an unfair advantage?
Terry Blount (2:52 PM)
The way Kulwicki ran his team is a bygone era we won't see again, not at the champiopnship level, anyway.
Tom, Mass
Does Edwards leave Roush at the end of his contract and join Jr. motorsports as their second driver?
Terry Blount (2:53 PM)
Wow, not there's a wild rumor. I'll guess no on that one.
Patterson (Georgia)
I understand the pressure on Eury, Jr. & Dale, Jr. but what is the problem here? They are in top notch equipment and run like they are a single car team on a shoe string budget.
Terry Blount (2:54 PM)
If they knew the answer to that they would fix it. I think they just need a fresh start with new people. Both are good at what they do, but it isn't working together. Time for an amicable divorce.
Rob (Philadelphia, PA)
Do you see Graham Rahal winning an IRL title in the next 5 years?
Terry Blount (2:55 PM)
It's possible, but he has to show major and improvement and consistency on the high-speed ovals. Graham still a very young guy. He'll get there.
cody oliphant walker LA
how big of a chance does ryan newman and the 39 team have to win a race evin the championship
Terry Blount (2:56 PM)
Win a race? Probably. Win the championship? Not this year.
Tom, Mass
The only way Jr. will have the title champion is as a car owner, not a driver. You know it Terry, but I understand if you wont admit it.
Terry Blount (2:57 PM)
I don't know it. It's not too late, but time is running out.
Gary ( MI)
Following up to Tom, does Kenseth leave Roush to race for JR motorsports?
Terry Blount (2:58 PM)
Why would you leave one of the most successful organizations in NASCAR for a start-up team at the Cup level?
Devin (Johnson City TN)
Jr won once every 11 races with pops, and once every 44 races with Eury jr...he even won with Steve Hmiel as a CC...
Terry Blount (3:00 PM)
A valid point.
Terry Blount (3:01 PM)
Gotta run folks. Some great questions today. Have a fun week. I'm out. Peace.
