Bill Williamson (2:08 PM)
Sorry for the late start. Pesky computers.
Danny (colorado springs)
Philip River's isn't gettin any love...but aren't his numbers comparable if not better than Brady/Manning?
PT (Franklin, NC)
Bill, it seems like Jamarcus Russell didn't even perform as badly last offseason, which was basically his rookie year, therefore, do you think Tom Cable has a point when he says his problems are due to learning the new system?
Bill Williamson (2:09 PM)
Give Rivers time. Ultimtaely, what gives quarterbacks love is titles. Rivers has to win a ring to get the ultimate respect and he knows that.
Steve (San Diego)
Bill, What would you say is San Diego's biggest strength and what is their biggest weakness. Additionally, how do you see them as a Super Bowl contender this upcoming season?
Bill Williamson (2:10 PM)
Biggest strength: Leadership and overall talent. Weakness: Pass defense. But Shawne Merriman's return should help.
Brian (San Diego)
Do you think the Chargers are going to add anymore pieces (Safety or O-line) or just go with what they have?
Bill Williamson (2:12 PM)
Boy,a big run on San Diego questions. I could see them adding a piece or two, but the Chargers have been quiet all offseason. I don't expect major changes.
Where do you see KC pass defense ranking this year?
Bill Williamson (2:14 PM)
Unless Tyson Jackson becomes a sack master, I see Kansas City at the bottom of the league when it comes to sacks.
Buckley, Chico, CA
How much of a difference is Merriman going to make, and will he return to full speed?
Bill Williamson (2:17 PM)
Untl we see him play, we won't know if he will be at full speed. But by all accounts, he will be fine. I think he will make a major difference. He will make the pass rush better, the pass defense better and he will make the unit tougher.
LT (the endzone)
I know there is alot of young RB in the divisino this year....but who is going to post the most rushing TD in the West this year?
Bill Williamson (2:18 PM)
Got to go with LT until he proves he's no longer the man in the West.
Mike Vick in Denver, right?
Bill Williamson (2:19 PM)
I'd say wrong.
Do the raiders have a realistic shot at winning the division? I love their backfield.
Bill Williamson (2:21 PM)
Any team can emerge, so it's possible. But I don't think it's realistic to think Oakland will win the division this year.
Are the Raiders trying to follow the Giants model? #1 overall pick QB, 3 good RB's, 1 deep threat- control the clock and win with defense? Obviously they need Burgess, Scoot, etc. to step up at DE, but isnt everything else similar in theory?
Bill Williamson (2:22 PM)
I guess you can say that. But I think the Raiders always follow their own plan.
Then where for Mike Vick? Just selling frozen burritos outside some NFL stadium?
Bill Williamson (2:23 PM)
First, we have to see if he will be suspended by the league or not.
mathieu (san francisco)
Given the sheer number of D-linemen that the Broncos are trying at LB, will any of them become good linebackers? Moss would seem to be a better fit at LB than DL given his size, yet every report pretty much has him as waiver material
Bill Williamson (2:26 PM)
I think Dumervil has the best chance becoming a decent linebacker. Moss has to be impressive or he'll be cut.
Hi Bill. What are your thoughts on who KC might add to their lineup via trade or free agency? Thanks.
Bill Williamson (2:27 PM)
There really isn't much out there at this point.
Oral Roberts (Oakland)
Jamarcus Russell v. Jeff Garcia. Are you changing your opinion at all about whether Garcia has any chance at being the starter? Sad to say, but Jamarcus is horrible - I can't believe Garcia will get iced like that by the Raiders management.
Bill Williamson (2:30 PM)
My opinion has been that Oakland better hope Russell pans out. Garcia may be better for 2009 but the Raiders have to find out if Russell can be the guy. Truthfully, at this point, I expect Garcia to overtake Russell at some point this year.
Graham( Madison, WI)
I know Denver didn't get any stronger in the front seven, but shouldn't a completely revamped secondary pay huge dividends for their dismal defense?
Bill Williamson (2:31 PM)
Yes, but coaches always say a secondary can't be at its best without a capable pass rush.
mark newport news va
do you think the db's will have a better season this year in san diego or do i look forward to teams passing all over them again.
Bill Williamson (2:32 PM)
I think the return of Merriman and the drafting of Larry English will help greatly in that area.
Why do people mention Raiders everytime a malcontent (Vick, Burress, etc.) becomes available? When was the last time they signed one? They have thrown them out recently and have been focusing on character.
Bill Williamson (2:33 PM)
The last time? Last year in Javon Walker and the trade for DeAngelo Hall.
In all honesty, do people at ESPN know they have a bias towards the Raiders and do they do it purposefully?
Bill Williamson (2:36 PM)
I can only speak for myself (although I can honestly say no one at ESPN has ever expressed any distaste toward Oakland to me) but I do not believe there a bias against Oakland. Remember Mike, when a team sets a league for the most losses in a six-year span, there isn't going to be a lot of happy talk.
Walker a malcontent? Rank him in this list: TO (all said he is goin to the Raiders) Vick (he's destined to be a raider according to your collegues) Ocho Cinco (again) Burress
Bill Williamson (2:37 PM)
Walker talked his way out of Green Bay and Denver. That's a malcontent.
Sean (TR NJ)
I have noticed nobody mentioning Larry johnson anymore as a big time player is he done with being the threat he was for one season. Is that why nobody even thinks of trading for the guy or would a change of scenery do him good?
Bill Williamson (2:39 PM)
I think Johnson could still have a couple of decent years ahead of him. At this point, I epxect him to be one fo the Chiefs better players.
Victor (covina, Ca)
hey Bill, how true are the reports of NE willing to trade a 2nd rounder for Burgess? I think the raiders should pull the deal, since Trevor Scott has showed he can replace him and they also drafted 3 yound DE this year..
Bill Williamson (2:41 PM)
I hear it might be a third rounder. If that's the case, Oakland need to pull the trigger.
Robert (SLC, UT)
What kind of numbers do you expect out of Robert Ayers this season?
Bill Williamson (2:43 PM)
He wasn't a sack artist in college so it may be unrealistic to think he'll have double digit sacks this year. But I think he will be productive as a full-time player against the pass and against the run.
Aren't you being a little harsh on Russel? He was improving at the end of last year and according to all reports Garcia has been just as inconsistent during off-season workouts. And this will be only his second full year of starting. Are we going to give him time, or because he is a Raider is he already a bust?
Bill Williamson (2:45 PM)
I think Russell should be given this year to prove himself. But he must something in 2009.
Sean (TR NJ)
:It may be in vain but I am plugging this question all hour: I am not a Broncos fan (in fact a Dolphin fan) but how screwy has this offseason been for them. In recent years I am not sure I have seen things unravel so fast. I see a bad year coming up for those guys. Your thoughts
Bill Williamson (2:46 PM)
Big-time screwy. I have never seen anything like it and I think Denver is going to have a difficult time this year because of all of the change.
Jeff Albertson (Android's Dungeon & Baseball Card Shop)
Worst. Chat. Ever.
Bill Williamson (2:47 PM)
Hey, that one has been used before.
Bill , If Simms should happen to win the starting QB job, do the Broncos move Clady to the RT spot to protect his blind side or does he stay put?
Bill Williamson (2:49 PM)
Great question. Maybe. HavingClady on the left side would be silly in that case. But I fully expect Orton to be the guy.
who has the better year: Kyle Orton (with Brandon Marshall and Eddie Royal) or Jay Cutler (with Devin Harris + pu pu platter)??
Bill Williamson (2:50 PM)
pu pu platter? You from Hawaii, bro? I have to go with the better quarterback .. Cutler,
How about this one: Wasting Time With William Williamson? Ever hear that one before?
Bill Williamson (2:51 PM)
Actually, yes ... I know you will keep trying.
Is this the year that Darren McFadden is truly healthy and becomes the lead dog for Oakland?
Bill Williamson (2:52 PM)
That's the plan. But the kid has to show he can stay healthy.
What's your take on Keith Ellison, the rookie SD drafted at safety. Does he eclipse Corey Hart or do the Chargers sign Mike Brown at some point?
Bill Williamson (2:53 PM)
I think the team really wants Ellison to emerge.
Do you think McDaniels will pound the ball with Moreno or do you think it will be back by committe in Bronco-Land?
Bill Williamson (2:55 PM)
I think the plan is for Moreno to be a three-down back.
Matt (Los Angeles)
Hey Bill, will oaklands o-line be better than last year, also when will our supposed great run game show itself to take some pressure off Russel?
Bill Williamson (2:57 PM)
It will be somewhat improved. Stil, I think it won't be a top unit.
Chance (Boise, ID)
What do you attribute to the reason the Broncos have not completely revamped their front seven? They had their chance during free agency and didn't do it, and again in the draft and choose to work on other areas. Why not work on the most glaring problem on the team?
Bill Williamson (2:59 PM)
The Broncos brought in a lot of no names who they think will work in a system. I'm not so sure.
redstixs br louisana
Who will be starters at ss and fs for san diego this year sir thxs
Bill Williamson (3:00 PM)
Just a guess: Weddle and Ellison.
Bill Williamson (3:01 PM)
Great hour, folks. Enjoy your Memorial weekend. Talk to you next week,
