Lebron just set the Magic on fire last night, Im not a huge lebron fan, But he posted at the top of the key, 1 on 1 VS. michael pietrus, Drove and passed to a cuter, or shot the ball, Stan van gundy thats your falt
James Denver
How can Skip say yesterday Peitrus is controlling Lebron like a puppet? Skip Im not the biggest LBJ fan either but hes using Peitrus for over 41.5 points 8.5 rebounds and 8.5 assists per game. Lebron scored or assisted on 34 straight Cavs points in the 4th quarter. If anything Lebron has used Peitrus and gotten what ever he wanted all series long.
Matt (Pittsburgh)
King James is not Air Jordan, never will be. What will it take for the King to surpass the greats of MJ? 7 Rings? Or does he need to top KB24 and continue to dominate in his King like fashion?
Umor (detroit)
Lebron need to buy Mo williams a thick rib eye after last night game. And SVG is right, The magic need to play all four quarters and stop spotting the CAVS 10n to 20 points.
Boston, Ma
Lebron has football power with basketball agility, but against a few 3 pointer shooters at home has no chance
Umor (detroit)
LBJ unstopable going to the hole. That why he took over. He went to the hole and kicked it out to the open man. Instead of just trying to shoot 20 footers and threes.
Johnny (Dunmore, PA)
Did anyone really think the Cavs would lose last night? They may not be having a great series but there was no way LeBron was going down without a fight. Game 6 is the key game. If the Magic lose it, the NBA gets its wish and Commissioner Stern can stop popping antacids like JuJu Bees.
James Denver
Yeah Skip Peitrus is controlling Lebron like a puppet thats why Lebron is averageing 42 points 8.5 assists and 8.5 rebounds a game.
Dana Jacobson (9:51 AM)
morning folks! hope you all enjoyed last nights game. just tried to see if i could fly to detroit for game 1 saturday but ariline ticket's too steep for my wallet
Michael Kim (10:05 AM)
Good morning all... Knew Cavs would win last night but can they steal one tomorrow night in Orlando?
Jonathan (Atlanta, GA)
I think Orlando lost the game last night versus the Cavs winning. They (the Magic) got 3-happy and lost intensity in the fourth quarter. Van Gundy didn't help either with his choice of personnel during various period of times in the 2nd half (what was Anthony Johnson doing in the game in the 4th Qtr)
Kerry (Cleveland, O)
Before all of you conspiracy theorists start, Howard fouled out because he played Defense very TIMIDLY.
James Denver
Im still confused how a eye injury no matter how bad it was even if he was blind could stop Amare from playing the last 2 months of season? To me it was more like the Suns season is over I didnt get traded so I dont want to play.
Michael Kim (10:07 AM)
James - WHAT? The guy had surgery for a detached retina!
Kerry (Cleveland, O)
MK, will Dwight Howard get his Technical added back on for the missed elbow punch he threw?
Michael Kim (10:08 AM)
Kerry - I was wondering that myself!
Adam G. Tampa, FL
Wow Tony Montana had more help in the last scene of "Scarface" than LeBron does in this series. What an outstanding performance by an amazing leader/gamer. We are all witnesses.
Michael Kim (10:08 AM)
Good Friday comment, Adam.. You cockaroach.
john- pc bch,fl
1st things 1st-Thoughts &prayers for Lee Corso-take cre, we need you for several more years....oh, & if it helps, ROLL TIDE
Dana Jacobson (10:09 AM)
john, nice thought. all we are hearing he's doing well and will make a full recovery
Jonathan (Atlanta, GA)
Rashard Lewis has been MIA in the past two games. He due for a big game....that might be tomorrow night.
Dana Jacobson (10:11 AM)
jonathan - ummmm...didn't rashard lewis hit the go ahead shot in game 4???
Danny (Tonasket, Wa.)
Dana, you mean ESPN won't pony up for the tickets for you???
Dana Jacobson (10:12 AM)
Danny, sadly no. But that would be awesome!
Patrick (Boston, MA)
Is it just me or is anyone else kinda sick of the whole "did A win the game or did B lose it?" question?
Kev (Phila, PA)
This series, win or loss, confirms LeBron as being the most dominant player in the NBA today, and probably untill he is finished....
Dana Jacobson (10:13 AM)
Patrick, I hear ya. I think we ask it sometimes b/c it helps the debate to point out things the losing team did right and the winning team did wrong. If you're going to win, you have to take advantage of another team's mistakes...so it's always a combination in my opinion
Adam G. Tampa, FL
Skip, come on Daniel Gibson was the reason.
Corey (Atlanta)
Can the Cavs win in orlando Saturday? I think not.
Brian(Dover)
I am not a LeBron fan....but Skip's haterism is wayyyyyy out of control. Give credit where credit is due man!!!
John, Austin
Dana, what do the Wings mean to the city of Detroit during these very tough economic times, especially for that city?
Matt Montclair NJ
Boobie Gibson is a shooter, and I like his game IN Cleveland. Outside of cleveland he looks like a little boy lost in the park looking for his parents.
Jason T., Richmond, Va
LeBron finally has shown some qualities of a good leader. He has always shown that he was a great scorer and possibly one of the best players of all time. However, this is the first time I have seen him play like a leader. Kobe and Michael lead their teams by facilitating when necessary. LeBron is one of those players who hogs the ball when he feels that the team needs a major turnaround. Granted he does not have a "great" team around him, his team is average. But yesterday he decided to pass and let his team make the shots that were necessary. Lebron did not win the game. For the first time I can say, the Cavs won the game.
Dana Jacobson (10:15 AM)
John, I'm not there. But from what my friends that are tell me. It would be a great escape. It sounds cliche but would be nice to have something leading the news other than the big 3 (which in detroit is different than boston)
Kevin (Philadelphia, PA)
Rashard Lewis has been deadly this whole series.
Johnny (Dunmore, PA)
Dana: You don't want to be there anyway. It's the Penguins' Year to take home the Cup.
john- pc bch,fl
I may be wrong, but I THINK Cavs won AND Magic lost-that's how it works
Richard (Dallas, TX)
LBJ is averaging 41 pts, 8 asts, and 8 rbs; is he human?
Dana Jacobson (10:16 AM)
Johnny, if it is... I DID say last year it was like a handing off of the baton with wings beating pens. I was just a year early...really didn't expect detroit to make the run back this year. BUT I've never been to a playoff game at the joe!!!
Angel S. San Diego Ca
how come my comments are never posted? gonna boycott the show!!!
Dana Jacobson (10:16 AM)
Angel, you're not going to boycott. But b/c it's friday, there you go
Todd (Texas)
Dana Jacobson - Is the set on 1st and 10 as loud as I think it would have to be, due to Skip yelling at everything?
Dana Jacobson (10:16 AM)
yes.
tom nj [via mobile]
Skip still found fault with LeBron in spite of win and triple double. He reminds me of the guy that complains he is being hung with an old rope. He is tough.
jason in richmond, va
I really think that this game is over in Orlando. There is no way that Orlando will let this game get out of their hands. If they do, they will lose the series and heads will roll.
Adam G. Tampa, FL
Orlando will win on it's home floor they are that confident.
James Denver
Micheal Kim buddy Im sorry but I live in the real world where people have to work. Im a sheet metal worker and have gotten metal in my eyes on several occassions. Ive done serious damage to my left eye and lost 75% of my vision in that eye. I still had to go to work the very next day with a patch on my eye for weeks. I know hes a pro athlete but get real man.
Adam (Grand Rapids, MI)
The only reason the Pens have a chance is because the NHL punished the Wings for winning in game 5 instead of 6. If Crosby was out not Lidstrom or Datsyuk we'd be playing game one next weekend
Dana Jacobson (10:18 AM)
Adam, i half wanted them to lose the other night just so they'd get to rest. BUT I saw lidstrom's definitely back.
C-Rod (Redding, CT)
Was wondering if you guys think Stephen Bardo will have the guts to stand up to Skip today?
Dana Jacobson (10:18 AM)
C-Rod, I think stephen was great yesterday. He does stand up and at times I think skip knows he's lost the argument to him
Umor (detroit)
The wings gonna win it at home this year.
Paul N.Y. [via mobile]
Good mosning Dana u were right the Cav's do have a chance Lebron's game was off the chart last night. If he can put two more together like that they have chance.Doubtful but if he does watch out.
Dana Jacobson (10:19 AM)
Paul, i thought it was funny in pregame that lebron talked about seeing what kobe did the night b/f and told his guys if he has to take a backseat he will
Dan Huron, OH
Oh man this is old already...All we heard yesterday was Cleveland is done blah blah...now today because they won a game at home that everyone expected them to win, suddenly it is like they are leading the series...They still have to win a game 6 in Orlando and the odds of LeBrawn having the same kind of game tomorrow nite that he did last nite is very unlikely...
Adam G. Tampa, FL
Amare will be in New York with Lebron David Lee, and Steph Curry in a year period.
Kev (Phila, PA)
Dana, you from Detroit, and "Hockey Town", and you never been to a Red Wings game? I've never been to a 76ers game, and i live in Philly, but...their the 76ers..
john- pc bch,fl
KG wouldnt be guarding Alston, THAT was apples vs. oranges
Michael Kim (10:21 AM)
James - Obviously, I don't know you or your history -- and I'm truly sorry to hear about what you've experienced. I admire your dedication to your job and family. That said, you know and I know that world class athletes are treated differently than the rest of us. No athlete has knowingly played his sport with a detached retina, so you shouldn't expect Amar'e to be the exception.
Dana Jacobson (10:21 AM)
KEv, growing up my family wasn't a hockey family. When I got into it in college never got out there and then was always out of michigan and would catch em on the road - san jose, pittsburgh, florida... BUT i've gone to all the other teams arenas for multiple games and feel guilty!
Matt (Satellite Beach)
You got it right Skip, I guess you and I are the only one's who see this. LaBron just plows through everyone and he never gets called for an offensive foul, yet Howard fouls out every game in Cleveland.
Kyle (Lancasterpa)
SB is the smartest man alive. Magic baby.
Jay Crawford (10:21 AM)
good moooooooooorrrrning room!!!
Travis (Columbus, OH)
Because I'm bored, I'm going to start a new conspiracy theory: Disney. Los Angeles vs. Orlando in the finals? It's Disneyland vs. Disneyworld. Shame on you David Stern, for giving in to the demands of Disney/ABC/ESPN. Shame on you.
Melvin (Toledo, Oh)
Can someone ask Lebron why he does not keep taking it to Howard to keep him in foul trouble. He did it last night & I do believe in game 3, but game four he didn't & it cost them
Dana Jacobson (10:21 AM)
Travis, that's fantastic. That I can laugh at!
shane(raleigh,nc)
People must not watch basketball until the playoffs if they think Lebron's not a leader. He's averaging close to a triple-double for the year.I don't care if you're Magic or Stockton you don't get assissts if the people you pass the ball to don't make shots.
Matt (NJ)
Coming out of left field, but in honor of the crazy stylist from the other day, I gotta say, Amare is looking smooth with the suit, tie, and glasses. Dressed to the nines!
Jay Crawford (10:22 AM)
how about those indians??? 4 straight!
Todd (Fort Worth, TX)
Has anyone noticed that the Cavs are the only team that is not complaining about the refs, yet in nearly ever game they have been out attempted in free throws?
James Denver
Dont get me wrong I love Amares game and cant ever forgive my Nuggets for drafting Nicholas Skitishvilli over him but some part of has to beleive he was mad at team that didnt trade him and quit on the season.
Dana Jacobson (10:22 AM)
shane, good point and yes...a lot of folks don't see some of these teams often till the playoffs you know? ALSO everyone sees leadership as something different.
Kiser (Fly Creek, NY)
Guys, I have a "First Take" tatoo on my back. I got it one night but I don't regret it. I am a human billboard.
Dana Jacobson (10:23 AM)
no matt
john- pc bch,fl
Dana- how do you put up with all this testosterone?
Jared (Smyrna, Ga) [via mobile]
Skip is the biggest hypocrit in the world. How can he say Lebron missed as many shots as Kobe took, when Lebron scored more than twice as many points, twice as many rebs, and is averaging more assists in the series than Kobe's "spectacular passing performance" in game 5?
Brian (Michigan)
I'm from the suburbs of Detroit and I have never watched an entire Red Wings game.
DaShogun: Baytown, Tx.
MK, I guess LBJ borrowed Nate Robinsons Green Shoes last night, huh. He going to need them again tommorrow night as-well.
Ryan (new jersey)
Yea skip is rough but he knows his sports even though he is stubborn lol
Jay Crawford (10:23 AM)
exactly!
Jonathan (Atlanta, GA)
Stephen is tripping. The Celtics were a MUCH tougher team than the Cavs (more weapons and deeper bench) and the Magic managed to handle the Ray Allen and Paul Pierce very well. LeBron will get his on Saturday but I can't see Gibson and Williams turning in a great (not good) performance tomorrow. Also, like Skip said, I can't see Alston and Lewis playing another sub-par game at home in a close out game (remember the Magic has been in this position before in both round of this year's playoffs). Magic win by a decent margin.
Dana Jacobson (10:24 AM)
John, there are days where I want to scream to be honest. I love being one of the guys but sometimes enough is enough and I want to talk about a date or hair or a cute guy or whatever!!!!! then again it's like having a million brothers instead of just my one
Jesse (Pittsburgh)
Hey Adam- Seems like Redwings fans are making excuses already...
John, Austin
James in Denver, Amare doesn't live in the real world like the rest of us. He's an investment, we're not. We have to go to work despite being sick, hurt, or blind. Amare and other stars are treated like racehorses.
Johnny (Dunmore, PA)
Wow, Dana is a rational Wings fan. Didn't think one existed. Thanks for being you, Dana and best of luck to the Wings. I hope they win no more than three more games this season though.
Dana Jacobson (10:25 AM)
Jesse, I don't think so. They're banged up. They're older and not getting rest. I still think they're the better team! And its playof time, there are no excuses. should be a great series!
Randy (St. Marys, Pa)
Does anyone really care what the status is on Micheal Vick and where he will play next?
Ruedi (St. Louis)
Dwight Howard is a bigger, better Amare Stoudamire.
Dana Jacobson (10:25 AM)
Randy, enough that there are stories it seems liek every day!
Kev (Phila, PA)
Howard complains way too much. He backs down the opponent and just dunks, he has no substantial move. Surprisingly, he has been making his free throws when they count.
Michael Kim (10:26 AM)
Ruedi, Dwight Howard has a long way to go offensively for him to match Amar'e's overall game, in my opinion.
Johnny (Dunmore, PA)
I'd like to catch a Pens home playoff game as well. I've only been to Philly for a playoff game and that experience was unpleasant.
**Lew** ChiCago
Is the era of the big man controlling the paint completely over? How does the defensive player of the year foul out just about ever game?
Joe (Cleveland, Ohio)
Skip's takes are beyond biased and bordering on ridiculous already. He positioned himself as anti LBJ and he'll stick to it even if it means throwing his integrity and facts out the window. If LBJ hasn't done anything until he wins a title, then why should we listen to you until you win a pulitzer or emmy.
Calvin (College Station, TX)
I agree with Kenny, Charles, and Reggie last night when they said that there is no way that lebron can take the ball at the top of the key with the rest of his team standing and watching for two more games. If he can do it for two more games then he's truly King James.
Tone(Seattle)
Michael, but Amare also has a long way defensively to be a dwight howard. Put them together and you get the "dream"
Johnny (Dunmore, PA)
Jay: Enjoy that Indians' success because it won't last.
Anthony (San Antonio, TX)
I just want to know why all of a sudden all these Lebrick/Cavs fans are talking? Where were you a couple of days ago?
Cowboy Ron (Piston, PA)
Dana: Stop avoiding the Cowboy this morning. Do you think Amare's career has already peaked and it will be hard with eye injury and knee injury for him to ever be a franchise player in this league?
Michael Kim (10:29 AM)
Tone... I think Amar'e is closer to Dwight Howard defensively than Howard is to Amar'e on offense.
Dana Jacobson (10:29 AM)
Cowboy Ron, I don't think its already peaked but i think the eye injury is much more serious than some realize. it's a long process back obviously
Adam (Grand Rapids, MI)
Jay, even a blind squirrel finds a nut...
Brian(Dover)
Amare is a beast offensively and because he plays for the Suns he is not asked to play a lick of D....
Jay Crawford (10:30 AM)
hey a squirrels gotta eat too right
Jay(Cleveland)
I agree with Joe in Cleveland. Skips comments are both ignorant and irritating. He obviously watches the game with blinders on.Probably stabbing his Lebron voodoo doll as he watches the game. He is a Hater. Thats it.
Ruedi (St. Louis)
Mr. Kim, Even Amare's "no defense"? WOW! Dwight Howard's dominant "D" easily trumps Amare's so-so "O". Howard dunks better than him too.
Jonathan (Atlanta, GA)
Hey Lew, like Skip said...ask the LeReferees.
david (charlotte,nc)
anthony in san antonio.... all you have to do is look at jay crawford... i typically love the guy but his rant earlier in the week about "dont feel bad for us cavs fans, its just a game".... thats where cavs fans were...mentally atleast
Wil (Orlando, Fl)
Give it a rest, the Cavs closed out a game after giving up a big lead. It looked like the same old story but the Cavs responded this time. How can you not be at least a bit more confident in the Cavs?
Jay Crawford (10:31 AM)
seriously...just a game!
John, Austin
Jay, stop drinking the Indians cool aid, Tom Veryzer isn't walking through that door.
Umor (detroit)
Skip got his own Twitter page. I'm afraid to look.
Mike G (El Paso,TX)
Sing with me Dana, LETS GO RED WINGS! LETS GO RED WINGS! WOOOOOOO
Dana Jacobson (10:31 AM)
mike i'm singing!
Jay Crawford (10:31 AM)
ahhh! love veryzer! and duane kuiper too.
Adam G. Tampa, FL
Skip I'm following you on Twitter bro.
Antonio from Fort Lewis, Washington
Tell Skip to REWATCH the game cause Dwight Howard almost connect with an elbow to Wally last night. How he calls out Dwight Howard for that.
Rod (Milwaukee, WI)
Dont forget D-Wade in the closer category. He's hit more game winners and never gets his credit as a closer
Kerry (Cleveland, O)
**Lew** Howard has been EXPOSED... Just no one will call it.
Paul(Warwick,RI)
WHAT HAS "THE MAMBA' EVER CLOSED TO BECOME THE GREATEST?
Kerry (Cleveland, O)
Anthony in San Antonio, I've been here EVERYDAY, ask the Moderators or Michael Kim, I've been here everyday and taking my lumps...
Jay Crawford (10:32 AM)
true kerry!
Dana Jacobson (10:32 AM)
speaknig of - we've got a segment in hour 2 with one of hte pitt pirates, nyjer morgan, huge pens fan - one of his teammates big red wings fan - should be good
david (charlotte,nc)
dana, jay....ANYONE... how can the guy across from skip say kobe is the ONLY closer in the nba? the name d-wade comes to mind....am i crazy?
Jesse (Pittsburgh)
Hey Dana... would your trade a Redwings championship for a .500 season for the Lions?
John, Austin
Anyone else tired of the complaining from the players when the whistle blows? Howard complained the other night before he even knew if the foul was on him or not. They are all like Pavlov's dogs, hear a whistle and complain.
Dana Jacobson (10:32 AM)
jesse, no. BUT for a super bowl yes
Jay Crawford (10:32 AM)
stephen says, good point....dwade can close.
John, Austin
Jay, my first baseball card, Rick Manning. My first bat was Andre Thornton back when they gave away real bats at games.
Jesse (Pittsburgh)
I don't watch the NBA except during exciting playoff series so I have to ask: are the refs always so deferential to Kobe and LeBron, or is this only a playoff thing?
Jay Crawford (10:33 AM)
john, ive always worn 28, for rick manning! played cf and played hard!
Dana Jacobson (10:33 AM)
jesse, gets worse playoff time
Randy (St. Marys, Pa)
Hey Take it easy on Jay. One of his Cleveland teams is winning. Something like that dont happen often
Jay Crawford (10:33 AM)
thanks randy :)
Bruce (Sacramento)
ESPN 1st Take Host "Chat Reply" Rankings: 1)Dana 2)Michael 3)Jay
Moderator (10:36 AM)
I'll take that as a compliment, Bruce...like a good referee, the Moderator shouldn't get noticed unless he screws up
Jesse (Denver CO)
Does anyone else think that the MVPuppet commercials are among the greatest on tv
Todd (Fort Worth, TX)
If a tree falls in the woods and no on is around to see it fall, does it make a sound? And, if two teams play in the Stanely Cup finals yet no one is there to see it happen, did anyone actually win? All in fun guys :)
**Lew** ChiCago
I always thought Joe Torre was overrated because he was working for the yankees, but after the job he has done in bringing back to the dodgers i must admit he is one of the best ever.
Brian(Dover)
Hockey is the RedWinged StepChild of the sportsworld....AYYYYYYYY?
Leon (Wilkes-Barre, PA)
Skip, With the way Lebron is putting up points for his team to win does he remind you of Kobe 2 years ago?
Umor (detroit)
The indians won 4 straight, How that happen? And leyland needs to stop juggling the line up every night.
Danny (Tonasket, Wa.)
Bruce, I'm still waiting for a Dana vs. Jay 1st and 10 with Skip moderating.
Dana Jacobson (10:39 AM)
danny, that would be interesting
joDoug( tacoma, WA)
iz this first and chat real or wut??? sum one tell me the truth,, u guys r sooo funny really???????
Jay Crawford (10:40 AM)
straight up real!
Michael Kim (10:40 AM)
**Lew** -- What's with the stars? I heard someone else say that about Torre recently. I think his job in NY was extremely difficult just dealing with the media, fan expectations and the Steinbrenners. There's always something - just ask Joe Girardi.
Tim (Chicago)
Despite a loss yesterday, my Tigers are still in first place in the AL Central. How about showing a little love with some airtime?
Dana Jacobson (10:42 AM)
Tim, it's proof that we are not as biased as everyone thinks. I'd do more tigers coverage if I had my way!!! We spread the love, sometimes its just who we can get when. ALSO remember with nba/nhl playoffs, time is tight...in a month, more baseball guys. really
Johnny (Dunmore, PA)
Magic wins Game 6 and Orlando Sentinel headline the next day is, "LeGone!"
tom nj [via mobile]
Pitchers should be punished differently than position players. Made to miss starts not days or games. Zambrano should have to stand in corner.
Ryan (Louisville, KY)
Im Partial to the new Ozzy/Samsung Phone Commerical, even being played over and over on tnt, I still laugh.
david (charlotte,nc)
dana.... stephen apparently says "good point, d-wade can close"... CAN CLOSE? i know i'm a huge heat fan so i probably remember it a little differently than others, but you saw the same 06 finals that i did... d-wade didnt just close games, he was michael jordan... in fact, he put up numbers in the finals that jordan never put up....HE CAN CLOSE? talk about understatement of the century
Rod (Milwaukee, WI)
I agree with Skip about the refs. I know they want to see Kobe and Lebron to but this is crazy. He runs over people all the time and Howard goes straight up and gets call for fouls
Angel S. San Diego Ca
yeah baby finally a little padre talk
C-Rod (Redding, CT)
Since First Take is such a relaxed sports show, have you guys ever considering having musical acts on? I dont' mean sports musical acts like Peter Gammons and his band, I mean real acts? Bottom line...I need more Nickelback in my life.
Dana Jacobson (10:44 AM)
c-rod, we used to...didn' do so well. sorry
Paul(Warwick,RI)
I wonder if the Non-Lebrons are tired of being refered to as "complimentary players",and"My guys" by Lebron.
Dana Jacobson (10:45 AM)
paul, if they're winning...i don't think so. they know who lebron is and what he brings/means to the team. I think they feel HE respectes them and that's what matters most
James Denver
I know it was on another network but did anyone else see Chris Webber go visit Rodney Rogers? As a long time Nuggets fan that had the poster of Rodney with sledge hammer on shoulder and foot in dump truck on his wall. I wish Rodney a full and speedy recovery and hope he can one day make his goal of being able to walk again.
Michael Kim (10:46 AM)
Tom -- I hear you... If a position player does the same thing, he's out six actual games. A pitcher wasn't going to pitch anyway and an easy adjustment is made in the rotation to accomodate the suspension.
Matt Lynn, MA
What's with all the Le-Hate from Skip!
Dana Jacobson (10:46 AM)
James, I did. So sad especially when he talked about his kids.
david (charlotte,nc)
what made you guys change the name from cold pizza?
Michael Kim (10:46 AM)
Matt - you must be new to the show. Welcome.
Dana Jacobson (10:47 AM)
company decision, the look changed when we moved so they did an overall change
Travis (Columbus, OH)
I think Dana hit the nail on the head. If LeBron wasn't respecting his teammates, then there would be a problem.
Ryan (Louisville, KY)
I dunno Dana, Jemele has a different opinion on that on twitter, just ask Skip.
Dana Jacobson (10:47 AM)
Ryan, that's the beauty of opinions...everyone has em!
Brian(Dover)
I am SOOOO sick of Michael Jordan comparisons! None of the these guys are on MJ's level.....How soo we have forgotten the greatness of #23! These guys today have greatness handed to them...MJ had to go through Detroit, Boston and NY Knicks elbows, knees and bodyblocks to take greatness!!!
Jonathan (Atlanta, GA)
There is one thing that no one has brought up. LeBron is playing a ton of minutes. If I'm not mistaken he played the entire 4th Qtr....again. Sooner or later, that has to catch up with him. Could it be in game 6?
Michael Kim (10:50 AM)
Jonathan - He's 24. He's fine. I wouldn't worry about him or expect him to tire anytime soon.
Travis (Columbus, OH)
Brian, if MJ is the greatest, there will always be someone contesting him for that title. It's the nature of life: the only way to go from the top is down. So, as long as there are contenders, his title will always be on the line, but as far as when he'll have to relinquish it, who knows. That's up to the fans.
Ken (Cleveland Ohio)
Orlando has attempted 10 more free throws then Cleveland this series including 80 attempts to Clevelands 77 in the 3 games at Cleveland. For a team whose success is predicated on the 3 point shot and not strong penetration like the cavs to have more ft attempts on the road and at home and still whine that the calls are going against them is trully laughable.
Ken (Trenton, OH)
Joey Votto is the next Albert Pujols!
Michael Kim (10:52 AM)
Ken -- LOL -- Take this cup and enter the second door on your left.
Derek (San Diego)
Kevin Durant will be better then LeBron when it's all set and done....
Michael Kim (10:53 AM)
Derek -- See Ken over there? The line forms behind him.
John, Austin
Derek...take this cup and follow Ken.
Johnny (Dunmore, PA)
Dana: Do you miss the old Tiger Stadium or do you like the new place better? I'm heading to the New Yankee Stadium next week and while I'm excited about it, my dad isn't as thrilled because he misses the old place.
Michael Kim (10:53 AM)
John in Austin -- I beat you to it!
Dana Jacobson (10:53 AM)
Johnny old tiger stadium had great history but they did such a nice job with comerica - i'm sold. TOTALLY sold
Brian(Dover)
Travis....GREAT point bro! I just laugh at the comparisions now. The game is soooo different today. Any of the stuff MJ went through would be called a flagrant today...it's not even close at this point.
Charles Dayton, Ohio
Dana Tell Kev from Philly that we of the Laker Coalition have heard those tired lame comments about a center about ten years ago. Dwight says stop if you can, fear it if you cant
Ryan (Louisville, KY)
Ya Mean Joey Votto is a Machine?
Erick (Denver)
The song said it all...IF I could be like Mike! I'm sorry..but that will never change.
Michael (KY)
Derek..... that is the most ridiculous comment I have ever seen in this chat room! Come back to earth buddy!
John, Austin
Dang it!!!!! Way to go MK.
Ken (cle oh)
Orlando has attempted 10 more free throws then Cleveland this series including 80 attempts to Clevelands 77 in the 3 games at Cleveland. For a team whose success is predicated on the 3 point shot and not strong penetration like the cavs to have more ft attempts on the road and at home and still whine that the calls are going against them is trully laughable.
Leon (WIlkes-Barre, Pa)
Lebron last night reminded me of the way DWade finished off the Mavs for the Heat championship!
Michael (Kentucky)
I am with Brian from Dover completely!!!!!!
john- pc bch,fl
I gotta go "tweet" to Skip-brb
**Lew** ChiCago
Basketball is the only sport that someone is the "greatest" ever 2-3 yrs. The history isn't as long as the other sports but has Lebron even passed the Magic Johnson plateau yet?
Adam G. Tampa, FL
Skip reminds me of a young MacGyver!
Paul(Warwick,RI)
The Yankees have gone 14 games without an error. impossible with Giambi, and Abreau.C.C,andBurnett were the big story.Texeira and Swisher made a bigger difference.
Nostin (Burntown, CT)
Dana, what is your "take" on athletes and tattoos and do you have any? I was thinking about getting my babies name on my neck and wanted to know if it's "socially acceptable" yet for like job interviews and stuff.
Brian(Dover)
Jay Cutler is the next Jim McMahon....as long as you guys are giving out free drug tests I thought I would get one too!!!
Ken (cleveland ohio)
There have been plenty of questionable calls BOTH ways. ONLY time I will make this comparison but Delonte and Kobe must be the two biggest Klutz's in the NBA with the way West went down trying to secure that rebound in Orlando in the last 10 seconds
Dana Jacobson (10:56 AM)
Nostin, guess it depends on your job. I think someone truly conservative might not be ok with it. I have no problem with em.
Tone(Seattle)
Dana I think your crazy..I miss michigan and trumbull.. the 2 floor bleachers for 5 bucks was the best. I would just go there from school at Wayne State all the time.. Comerica is nice, but its no contest for me.
Dana Jacobson (10:57 AM)
Tone, you always got blocked by a post in seats there...the place was in really bad shape. Great memories, but I still have those in my head
Matt (Satellite Beach, FL)
Brady will be lucky to be back mentally, will he be gun shy now that he has that knee in the back of his mind on every snap. The Pat's will be good next year but I say Miami takes it again.
Aaron (Dallas, Tx.)
Tom Brady is a winner! It may take a few games, but do not ever underestimate the heart of a champion!
Dana Jacobson (10:59 AM)
Matt we won't know on the gun shy till mini camps and maybe even training camp when he has defenders coming after him
Moderator (10:59 AM)
very original Aaron...thats a 5-yard penalty for overuse of a cliche'
aaron newyork
by the way, the refs in these playoffs are horrible period. ive never seen so many blown calls or blatant fouls missed, not to mention it seem like everytime they call a tech it end up getting rescinded, hmmm maybe that should tell you something....
Scott (Cocoa)
When a player becomes truly "great"..he doesn't need to be compared to the other "greats". Were all attracted to different skill sets, sizes, and great moments. Mike will be Mike..Magic will be Magic..Kobe will be Kobe..and Lebron is King.
Andrew Ebensburg, PA
Skip is correct Ancor Man in way funnier that Animal House. Infact Ricky Bobby is a funnier movie.
Kerry (Cleveland, O)
Tiger Stadium too cool. Sat in Short Porch to see the Indians one Sunday afternoon. Bless to have seen that cathedral for Baseball. Especially CENTER FIELD so DEEP
Ryan (New Jersey)
Ha Dana Told her story about never seeing a hockey game in detroit she said she was ok but told us she feels guilty lol
david (charlotte,nc)
matt....big dolfan here....but come on...even i will admit, even the sight of brady back on the field for ota's....i'm nervous about those pats again and it sucks!
Dana Jacobson (11:02 AM)
ryan, i mean i feel ok not going to this one. I still feel guilty that ive never been to one there
Anthony (San Antonio, TX)
Tom Brady is a great QB but dont sleep on McNabb this season! Eagles are going to be strong Off. & Def. just as long they stay healthy! GO EAGLES!
Paul(Warwick,RI)
Kobe,Lebron,DWade, etc.expect foul calls everytime they shoot, and someone dares get near them.
Dana Jacobson (11:03 AM)
anthony i've been saying since the draft im watching. they helped themselves!
Chad (Las Vegas)
Geaux Saints!!!
John, Austin
Did Tom Brady hurt his brain? I thought he hurt his knee.
Brian (Michigan)
Apparently alot of guys have a "heart of a champion" and that is all it takes to win one.
Johnny (Dunmore, PA)
Skip said Anchor Man is funnier than Animal House. Michael, get him a cup please.
Cameron Grand Rapids, MI
Dana, you gotta get to the Joe. Nothing like a SCF game. Please get off basketball for a bit it's the conference finals and barely a word about the Stanley Cup. Its too bad you spend 1/2 hr on bball and barely anything on hockey!!!!! :(
tom nj [via mobile]
Anchorman is about as funny as a screen door on a submarine.
Dana Jacobson (11:04 AM)
cameron i think like 1130 we go hockey
Shawn (Pton, IN)
i think people doubt how good for how long both tom brady and peyton manning are goin to be... barring a serious injury, 6 seasons is pretty possible
Anthony (San Antonio,TX)
Dana they sure did! I was worried when Dawkins left the team but they made up for it in the draft and the trade for Peters. Im thinking Eagles vs Pats in Super Bowl?
YBAF (Providence)
Guys, have to say I am touched to hear Drew Brees talk about him sharing a birthday with his son. Great story from a great man. Was wondering Dana if you would let your children turn pro in sports as a teenager or force them to go to college?
John, Austin
those of us in Austin are extremely proud of the person Drew Brees is. What an awesome example of how an athlete can use his powers for good and not for selfishness.
john- pc bch,fl
I like Reggie Bush , but perhaps he should GOOGLE "Mo Williams-Predictions"
Dana Jacobson (11:08 AM)
john, from what i can tell one of the good guys
Brian (Michigan)
My favorite memory from Tiger Stadium was sitting in Seat 1 Row 1 for one game when I was a kid. I could hear the player's conversations in the dugout.
Ryan (New Jersey)
Im just messin wit ya dana i never been to see the eagles at lincoln financial field
Dana Jacobson (11:09 AM)
ryan, feel free. i've also never been to wrigley or fenway. i know i know i know. ive been to like a zillion other ballparks. fenway i hope to take care of this summer - i just always end up going to ny
Cameron (Grand Rapids, MI)
Good to know..BTW I'll take First Take over SC anyday..I had to wait through 1/2 hr of basketball just to see highlights the night the wings beat the blackhawks
Dana Jacobson (11:09 AM)
nice to know cameron thanks.
Genie P. (West Warwick, RI)
Dana, I'm a big time gambler and I like to play poker. Would you double down on 18?
Dana Jacobson (11:10 AM)
Genie P if you like to play poker why are you asking me a blackjack question?
Michael ((Redlands, CA))
So, Lions.....how many wins this season?
Dana Jacobson (11:10 AM)
michael, 5
Dana Jacobson (11:11 AM)
and truth be told michael...no clue. need to wait till training camp to really get a feel
Drew (Buffalo)
Cameron, thats an exception as opposed to the rule.
Tone(Seattle)
Do you think that Illitch will build new hockey arena if cobo doesn't get the upgrade money?
Dana Jacobson (11:11 AM)
Tone, don't know enough about the politics and what's going on with that to really comment
Chad (Las Vegas)
Dana, Does your Lions prediction include preseason wins?
Dana Jacobson (11:12 AM)
chad undefeated preseason again! seriously, not a clue on wins this year...they've added so many pieces I want some training camp time to get an idea
Christopher (H TOWN, BIG T)
Dana, women love ny, i think colin cowherd said it on the air, women love to go see the bright lights, and shopping, i mean really what man wouldn't either? but he was saying that boston was a bit more rugged, not as big of a nightlife city, which new york, OBVIOUSLY is.
Dana Jacobson (11:13 AM)
Christopher that may be but Ive been going to ny my entire life and have been to boston like twice. I have family from ny, i lived there for a summer in college, i know it well. that's why i go!
joe (wheeling,wv)
dana why does everyone doubt skip when he is always right. the man cannot be wrong!!
Dana Jacobson (11:14 AM)
joe, he's right about a lot of things. he is NOT always right. sorry.
leon
Wheres Steven A. at? Im tired of Skip bullying all these guest host. Steven A. makes Skip look like Stan Van Gundy of first take! Panic !!
Dana Jacobson (11:14 AM)
leon, stephen a is no longer on espn.
Tone (Seattle)
Chris, my wife hates New York. To big for her.Even Chicago was a little large, she really loves Seattle though..
Dana Jacobson (11:15 AM)
tone, san francisco another great city
Cameron ( Grand Rapids, MI)
Drew, are you talking about the 1/2 hr of basketball b4 wings highlights?..Seems to me its the rule unless its Crosby or Ovechkin highlights..
Danny (Tonasket, Wa.)
Dana, maybe ESPN should have a Dana tour to every ballpark, stadium, rink, etc. as an ongoing series of reports on the pros and cons of each with respect to each sport.
Dana Jacobson (11:16 AM)
Danny, i'm going to pitch it. I like it!
Eva Gabor (Green Acres)
New York is where I'd rather stay. I get allergic smelling hay. I just adore a penthouse view. Darling I love you but give me Park Avenue.
Brian(Dover)
If Sportscenter started the show with hockey they would lose 80% of their viewers to the "Cheaters" marathon on SPIKE TV.
Drew (Buffalo)
I was referring to this show talking about something other than Lebron or Kobe.
Dana Jacobson (11:17 AM)
Drew, you know that's not true.
Arthur (Spring Valley,NY)
the refs (LeRefs as Skip calls them) once again, played a Major role in this game as well... No tech on Ilgaskas in the 1st quarter? Dwight Howard fouled out? Defensive Player of the Year, & gets Fouled out again... very Fishy!
Jonathan (Atlanta)
Hey Dana, actually, it will be pretty cool if you, Jay, MK, Skip and the crew took First Take on the road....give us a chance to catch you guys in our city
Brian(Dover)
Dana, if you need a traveling buddy for your stadium pitch, I am "all in".
Dana Jacobson (11:18 AM)
jonathan, we've been wanting to. we used to with cold pizza. money is in issue sadly
Adam G. Tampa, FL
I'm with Skip this umpire doesn't belong on the big league level. He has no idea what his A-U-T-H-O-R-I-T-Y is.(Cartman South Park voice)
john- pc bch,fl
Dana I heard they were considering bringing hockey to Fenway- you might kill two birds w/ one stone
Trekkie (Ann Arbor, MI)
So, Skip critiques movies now too? Don't quit your Day Job, Skip. The new Star Trek was amazing. Also, it's spelled Uhura.
Dana Jacobson (11:18 AM)
I'll be there b/f baseball seasons over!
Kyle: (Springfield, MO):
I do see any reason that Lebron should not "charge" the basket on everyplay. He has three of his best buddies reffing the game.
Calvin W (Clearwater, FL)
Carlos Zambrano was right. the ump made the wrong call. I would go crazy too if my team is slupping and then the ump blows a call.
Sean (TR NJ)
Brian from Dover spoken like a man who knkows nothing about competition and sports good job. Whats the saying rather be thought a fool than speak and remove all doubt. No doubts about you here buddy
Dana Jacobson (11:20 AM)
Dana Jacobson (11:20 AM)
hockey alert! i believe after this next couch potato segment.
Calvin W (Clearwater, FL)
Nate M. should be more worried about his BA than the Dead Wings.
Michael Kim (11:29 AM)
Calvin -- I need him to pick up his offense. And SBs too.
Michael (Redlands, CA)
the best blow up ever was still that guy crawling on the ground throwing the grenade, you need to show that again
Dana Jacobson (11:30 AM)
michael no doubt!!!
Calvin W (Clearwater, FL)
He wasn't safe, he was out. Of course, his not going to go on tv and say he was out.
Dana Jacobson (11:32 AM)
calvin, you never know.... ask it 100 times, one time someone will say it, trust me!
Hook (Southern Maryland)
I like the Wings in 7.
Ryan (New Jersey)
his shirt is crazy lookin ha get em dana
Ed Dooley Tampa Florida
Hockey doesn't get respect becasue the when a major network (NBC) that is covering the finals won't show game 1. I enjoy the game and me being a Pens fan here in Florida is subjected to this type of broadcasting. This is why Hockey is being held back in the major broadcasting market! From a Pens fan stuck in Florida!
Kyle: (Springfield, MO)
The only way that the Penguins can beat the Red Wings is if they attack like the US did in the 1980 Olympics against the Soviet Union. The Penguins are the young team with talent and the Red Wings are the veterans that have mostly worked together for many years.
Dana Jacobson (11:33 AM)
kyle, don't underestimate pittsburgh. fleury has been huge!!!
Sean (TR NJ)
The only time to question the Wings in the playoffs to me is the first round for some reason that is their achilles heel, but if they make it through that I become a believer real quick. Even though this year the Ducks put up a good fight.
david (charlotte,nc)
calvin... you're crazy! zambrano was completely wrong, not only about the call, but the reaction... you say because the team is slumping... if he really cared about the team,he wouldn't have gotten thrown out, and then suspended.... and how many times do you see guys get hurt from stupid stuff like taking a bat and hitting everything in signt in the dugout... he has always had the same problem with his emotions... they get the best of him, and it kills the team... sure he's a great pitcher, but t.o. is a great receiver.... and yet nobody seems to want him anymore
Brian(Dover)
Exhibit #1 of why hockey is not a lead story on ESPN: They needed to get a baseball player to talk about a bet he has going with a teammate to keep people interested. And remember I enjoy hockey...just stating the facts here....
Paul(Warwick,RI)
Calvin, watch again, the ump got the play right.the catcher missed the tag.
Dana Jacobson (11:35 AM)
Actually brian, we did that b/c we like to do things differently. sportscenter has barry and barnaby and on game days we do too. This is a different way to talk about it. We do the same with every sport.
Brian(Dover)
Osgood is the man during the playoffs.....Wings in 6.
Hook (Southern Maryland)
He was safe. His left hand did get in there.
Cameron ( Grand Rapids, MI)
Hey Calvin, that nickname hasn't worked since the 80's...4 cups and among the best teams in the league for the last 14 years pretty much says it all!!
Brian (Michigan)
Hockey is not a lead story on ESPN because it isn't broadcasted on ESPN.
Dana Jacobson (11:36 AM)
Brian, I know no one believes me but that's not why.
Brian(Dover)
Dana, I agree 100% and that is why I enjoy your show so much. It's a different take on things. I was just responding to a personal attack by Sean in NJ....
Dana Jacobson (11:36 AM)
got it brian!
Dana Jacobson (11:36 AM)
and thanks!
Umor (detroit)
Wings in 5. Fleury hasn't been attack yet the way the wing come at ya.
Ryan (New Jersey)
Hey you can get a great seat for 25 bucks at a hockey game.. i dont need the whole world to like hockey for me to enjoy it
Paul(Warwwick,RI)
Skating VS. Power / Power wins, pens in 7
Dana Jacobson (11:37 AM)
paul i thought you hated hockey?
Steve (Syracuse)
Dana what am I going to do in two weeks when Basketball is over....? It is such a long wait for football season!
Dana Jacobson (11:38 AM)
steve, the good thing is we talk football year round. minicamps in a couple weeks and then mid july training camp and its full gear
Bill (Pittsburgh)
Umor your a joking right. 7 games with ovekchin!!
Tone (Seattle)
Will you have Tommy Smith on next week with there being World Cup Qualifiers coming?
Dana Jacobson (11:39 AM)
tone, i would think so...not sure
Wil (Orlando)
I'm not a huge Hockey fan but Fleury did face Ovechikin...I think that kept Fleury pretty sharp.
Tone (Seattle)
Wings will win, zetterberg will make malkin disappear again.
Brian (Michigan)
Steve I think baseball will still be going two weeks from now.
david (charlotte,nc)
the red wings are what make it easy to laugh at the lions as much as i do... and even the pistons can be thrown in along with the wings... how can you feel bad for a city and their fans when the city is "hockey town usa" and the team wins ALL THE TIME basicaly?
Paul(Warwick)
Hockey is'nt on ESPN alot because ESPN knows their viewer demographics.not that many people care about hockey.
Dana Jacobson (11:40 AM)
actually paul its not on espn b/c the nhl wanted more money and espn wasn't willing to pay but VS was.
Brian(Dover)
Why doesn't soccer ever lead Sportscenter? HAHA
Dana Jacobson (11:40 AM)
actually brian - world cup time, it does sometimes
Scott: (PA)
NHL Playoffs > NBA Playoffs how can you like the nba when if you barely touch someone its a foul, the refs have double standards and there is no flow to the game because theres a whistle every 15 secs.
Steve (Syracuse)
Detroit was like Boston a few years ago- the Tigers were in the MLB Finals, Pistons winning championships, Red Wings are always there---I dont feel bad for detroit fans at all.
James Denver
You mean if Nuggets get eliminated all I have is the Rockies until Broncos season and with Joshy Macs moves Im not really looking forward to that. Go Nuggets!!!
Christopher (H TOWN, BIG T)
Steve, Detroit is no where near how boston is, 3 superbowl championships, 2 world series titles, and an nba championship. whoa!
Hook (Southern Maryland)
Ryan, what games are you going to? Capitals tickets in the upper deck at around mid ice are like 50 dollars in the regular season.
Calvin W (Clearwater, FL)
What is Skip's movie: One Flew Over the Cukoo's Nest
Brian(Dover)
Skips favorite movie: Delirious!!!!
Chris, IL
first take is my favorite show on espn but i wish you guys would talk fantasy a little bit...i know michael kim is feelin me!
Brian (Michigan)
I liked The Dream Team with Michael Keaton.
Jay Crawford (11:49 AM)
fantasys fun, but boring tv....
john- pc bch,fl
Skips movie...REAL GENIOUS
Steve (Coral Springs, FL)
You guys are playing the Birdman segment again?? Can't wait until tonight!! My Lakers are going to eliminate them tonight
Brian(Dover)
The Birdman is entertaining....
Jared (Smyrna, ga) [via mobile]
Cavs in 7. Watch the King, Skip.
Kyle: (Springfield, MO)
If Matt Wieters lives up to his potential of being a Joe Mauer type guy, He will only make that AL East more interesting.
Mike G (El Paso)
Hey Calvin you belong in the Cukoo's Nest!
fred (orlando)
skip really needs to give lebron credit, he did win that game last night, and this is coming from an orlando fan, it seems that skip is just hating on lebron just for the sake of hating.
Trevor (Indiana)
I agree with Steve. Most of America will just be waiting all summer for football to start once the NBA Finals are over.
Scott : (PA)
could Pittsburgh be the only city to win the super bowl and stanely cup in the same year?
Dana Jacobson (11:54 AM)
scott of the top of my head i'd say yes. one of our researchers is next to me i asked him he doesn't think its happened in the same year either
Dana Jacobson (11:55 AM)
and scott as paul my researcher extraordinaire continues to look, no. hasn't happened b/f from a quick check. so it would be a first
Jesse (Pittsburgh)
Well it certainly wasn't Detroit.
Dana Jacobson (11:56 AM)
ba dump bay jesse!
Dan (Buffalo, NY)
Let Orlando fans know that the three point well is beginning to dry up. Live by the three, die by the three.
Dana Jacobson (11:56 AM)
dan maybe they'll live by it now and die by it in the nba finals?
