Mike's here - Let's get started!
Drew (Harrisburg, PA)
Who is your front runner for the 09-10 NFL season?
Mike Golic (11:02 AM)
I would say a healthy Tom Brady has to put the Patriots back up near the top with a lot of good pieces in place if he's all the way back. They could be back on top.
Chad (Orlando, FL)
Mike do you still think orlando will win the series?
Mike Golic (11:03 AM)
Truthfully, I don't. Too much to ask to win three in a row at home. And then if they do lose one and go back to LA down 3-2 I just can't see them winning two games in LA.
Robb (Colorado)
Mike,How do you think Charlie does at ND this year, from a totally objective standpoint? People keep saying 10-2 or 11-1, but I just don't know.
Mike Golic (11:04 AM)
I absolutely think they can get at least 10 wins. Charlie knows more than anyone else that this needs to be a good year for the Irish. They have the pieces in place. I think this is the year they can make a nice run.
Andrew (Brooklyn)
I'm a hockey fan. These playoffs have been everything that the NHL could ask for to bolster more fans. Yet, the NHL continues to take a backseat to the NBA. Should the NHL switch their season so it ends earlier so as to not compete with the NBA finals?
Mike Golic (11:05 AM)
I don't know if thats going to help. The issue with hockey is that its just not a great TV sport. It could be the best sport to attend but it just has trouble translating on TV - not sure how they can overcome that but I love the game.
CAL (St. Paul, MN)
Mike, what are your thoughts on the Brett Favre/Vikes situation?
Mike Golic (11:07 AM)
Oh, boy. It certainly seems like here we go again. Theres no doubt Brett wants to play or he wouldnt have had his shoulder worked on. Now its up the Vikings to see how long they want to let this go. If they truly want to give Brett a deadline then they need to stick with it. That said, if he does play for them, they would be one of the favorites in the NFC.
Brooks (TX)
How should Ibanez have responded to the bloggers saying he may have used steroids? Seems to me it's a damned if you do, damned if you don't type situation.
Mike Golic (11:08 AM)
Baseball is in an era where all big numbers will be questioned. As hard as it is to ignore it, thats what he has to do. It's much easier said than done, though. This is a guilty until proven innocent era of baseball that many people just want to get past.
terry (va)
whats wrong with rex ryan saying his team has the best defense, did he forget about the steelers who beat him not twice but 3 times
Mike Golic (11:10 AM)
You can sya whatever you want, but you have to prove it on the field. Understand who Rex's father is. Buddy Ryan was my coach in Philly, who never cared about speaking his mind. The bottom line is you have to prove it on the field. As they say, talk is cheap. But I'll say this, if teams do take on the personality of their coach, you can expect a pretty aggressive Jets team this year.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
How are the boys making out at Notre Dame? Any idea where they might be on the depth chart?
Mike Golic (11:12 AM)
Mike was the backup center this spring. He saw a lot of time at No. 1 when the starter was hurt. He'll be looking to get PT at either center or guard this fall. And Jake - he's a freshman - we'll have to wait and see. He's preparing to get on the field, but obviously the coaches will decide if he does that or saves a year. He's a TE right now.
SprungOnSports (Long Island)
Why do you think the Red Sox have been so dominant over the Yankees this year, and based on your years as a player, how does that affect both teams psychologically?
Mike Golic (11:13 AM)
When I was with the Eagles, we had the Giants' number for a couple years and it seemed to have a bit of a mental affect on them. Now will that have a cause in the outcome of the game - I don't think so but it certainly will be in the heads of the team that keeps getting beat.
terry (va)
hows your arms and legs since the waxing, that took alot of nerve, but you held up your end of the bet, that was great
Mike Golic (11:14 AM)
Surprisingly, still somewhat hairless. I thought it would grow back a lot quicker than it did. I'm still at the stage where it feels like velcro. It was a bet I will never make again.
Cosmo (Anytown, USA)
You played in Philly - what do you think of the fans there?
Mike Golic (11:15 AM)
Passionate would be the first word I would use. They are very educated sports fans as well. Do they sometimes cross the line? Yes. But I appreciate their honesty when we're doing well they love us and when we stink - they boo us and that's okay by me.
Cody (Youngstown PA)
Do you think the Penguins will win game 7 and the stanley cup?
Mike Golic (11:16 AM)
I don;t think they will. I think Detroit is the better team and deeper team but I'll say this - I think it would be great for the game if its most identifiable player, Sidney Crosby, could hold up Lord Stanley's Cup.
Danny (DSM, IA)
Mike, if the lakers don't win this year, do you think this could be the last time Kobe will make it to the finals?
Mike Golic (11:17 AM)
No - I think the team the Lakers have out of all the teams in the NBA is the one that could have the best chance to make a bit of a run to the Finals while it would be a huge disappointment to lose these Finals after a 2-0 lead, they could still be one of the more consistently great teams in the NBA for the next few years.
Cosmo (Anytown, USA)
Who's the toughest / most intimidating player you ever played against?
Mike Golic (11:18 AM)
Let me give you a couple of names. The best player was Anthony Munoz. Simply the best OT in the game. The two best center I ever played against were Mike Webster - obviously incredibly tough. And Dwight Stephenson from the Dolphins who was the most technically sound lineman i ever played against.
Bernard (Chicago)
Are people overreacting to the money Strasburg may receive? He may get $25-30 Million, but doesn't that happen every year in the NFL for #1 picks?
Mike Golic (11:20 AM)
Yes they are and yes they do. But I think it's time for baseball and football to go the way of NBA and hockey and slot the players. That way everybody makes the same thing every year wherever you're picked and you have no holdouts and the players earn their next contract through their play on the field.
Vicki (Indiana)
With all the coaching and personnel changes within the Indianapolis Colts, do you think they'll still be as good or even better than they have been in recent years?
Mike Golic (11:21 AM)
Whenever you have Peyton Manning, you have a shot to win a lot. They still have plenty of weapins on offense and we've seen the D play great at times. Their biggest concern has been injuries. They cant seem to stay healthy for an entire season.
Neely (ma)
what are your thoughts on david ortiz
Mike Golic (11:22 AM)
In this era, we naturally assume balloon stats mean steroids and lack of production means you're off steroids. All players understand thats the blanket they live under right now. Everybody is entitled to their opinion. I have given mine on other players in this era, and in my opinion I dont think Ortiz is a steroid user.
Brandon (Pittsburgh)
Why didn't you get Schlereth's son to give you some pitching tips before that disastrous first pitch in Cleveland?
Mike Golic (11:23 AM)
My first pitch experiences have been brutal. I think now its in my head. I know I can throw a ball 60 feet 6 inches, especially if Greeny can. I'm seriously red-braining right now - it's not the technique, its the psychological approach. I stink.
Chad (Orlando, FL)
Mike do you think you can fit three doughnuts in your mouth?
Mike Golic (11:24 AM)
Absolutely. But if I had to then speak a sentence like I do on air it would take a little whule for me to be in that position. Though doing three donuts just for the fun of it. I could easily do that!
terry (va)
you think the steelers can repeat
Mike Golic (11:25 AM)
Sure they can. Good run game, great D. High percentage passer - they have all the ingredients to get there again. But as we've seen over the history of the NFL, its very tough to repeat but they do have the ability to do it.
Tim (Connecticut)
What is your favoirte restuarant in Connecticut?
Mike Golic (11:27 AM)
It's called the Harvest Cafe in Simsbury - it's a breakfast and lunch joint that my wife and I enjoy more than any other place in CT.
rod (florida)
six tenths of a second left, last shot in regulation, should that have been called "goal tend" on gosol??? - with the ball off the back board and gosol's hand in the goal isn't that a gold tend (officiating is awful !!) rod
Mike Golic (11:28 AM)
Yes it should have but earlier in the game Dwight Howard blocked a shot bringing his hand up through the rim so that was a missed call as well. They happen on both sides. It can be very frustrating but in basketball more whistles are blown than in any other sport. There are going to be mistakes.
Otto (CA)
What do you make of the 49ers' QB situation? Thanks.
Mike Golic (11:29 AM)
I think Shaun Hill will fit the offense better than Alex Smith. Smith likes to create more on the move and I think the 49ers are looking for something a little more stable in the pocket. I think Hill will win that battle.
cortis (houston, tx)
i think you need a higher releasing point in your pitch
Mike Golic (11:31 AM)
You're right. I dont practice from a mound so when I step down my release point goes down with it and I'm having a real mental block in getting over that.
Brent (Denver, CO)
Mike do you think the Broncos have a chance this year with out Shanahan and Cutler?
Mike Golic (11:32 AM)
It will be tough until they establish their QB and remember Mike had great running attacks no matter who the RB was. We'll have to see if they can continue that but first and foremost finding a QB to rely on will be the start.
wayne knox (burlington.WI)
do u think that the chicago bears win or go to the super bowl this year?
Mike Golic (11:34 AM)
I think they can win. I do like the new QB. But the receivers worry me a bit and the D needs to stay away from injuries. If the Vikings dont get Favre I think the division could be pretty open so the Bears certainly could have a shot.
Matt (Miami, FL)
How do you think Manny will do when he comes off his suspension?
Mike Golic (11:35 AM)
I think he will do just fine - not a lot seems to affect Manny mentally. He goes to the plate as relaxed as anyone Ive ever seen. Theres something to be said for how relaxed he is. I think he will lead this team to the World Series.
ESPNRadio.com (11:35 AM)
One more question ...
Clay (Charlotte)
How do you see the Peppers situation playing out in Carolina? You think he plays in Charlotte this year or will he work for a trade during the season?
Mike Golic (11:36 AM)
If Carolina doesnt trade him, he will play for them this year. I hear players all the time threatening to sit out the whole season, thats not happening - too much money to sit out the year. That wont be happening with him in my opinion.
Mike Golic (11:37 AM)
Thanks everybody for your questions. I'll do this again soon. RIght now I have to go check on Greeny. He's off getting a mani/pedi.
ESPNRadio.com (11:37 AM)
Thanks everyone. See you next time!
