Terry Blount (1:31 PM)
Hi folks. I have the NASCAR Now roundtable show later today when we'll discuss Mark Martin and double-file restarts. What's on your mind today?
With drivers blaming everything on double-file restarts, I am beginning to think the double file restarts are also responsible for the failing economy and unemployment. Thoughts?
Terry Blount (1:33 PM)
Very funny Sean. Yes, drivers are getting mad when they get wrecked on a late restarts, but they better get used to it because the new restart rule is here to stay. It has added tons of excitement to the races.
Guy (Enfield NH)
Regarding Busch's comments about the Daytona situation...If I am not mistaken, he has done the same exact thing as Stewart did it just didn't happen on the last lap of a race...Man what a whiner...
Buzzmaster (1:34 PM)
We're working on tracking down Terry, everyone!
Terry Blount (1:35 PM)
Anybody who has the checkered flag in view at Daytona but ends of wrecking won't be happy. But Kyle need to move on because he's in the danger zone for not making the Chase.
RAY GORDON REID (AKRON OH 44308)
questionsTO TERRY BLOUNT AT 1.40PM HI TERRY WHOYOURPICK FORINDY 2 CAN MARK MARTIN MAKECHASE
Terry Blount (1:36 PM)
Absolutely Mark can make the Chase. I'll be surprised if he doesn't. And the Chase gives him the best chance of his career to win the championship. Without the Chase, his title hopes this season would be over even though he's won four races.
Did Alan Gustafson hit the lottery or what?
Terry Blount (1:37 PM)
The both did. Mark loves Alan, who's a very skilled crew chief that never got is just due in the past.
Wow you are a busy chatter, twice this week and last week. Anyways Now I am hearing of Keslowski to Redbull. Any truth? and would that seal the deal for redbull to go to chevy
Terry Blount (1:39 PM)
I wrote about Brad's option in a story that will run Tuesday. I didn't list Red Bull, but it is possible if they move to Chevy. Brad is going to run for JR Motorsports in the NW series next year, so logic tells us he needs to stay in a Chevy for Cup. I think his first choice is a third car at Stewart Haas, but that depends on sponsorship.
Another race, another Dale Jr not finishing in the Top Ten, same old story. Maybe he should race Indy Cart.
Terry Blount (1:41 PM)
Junior ran in the top 10 for most of the race Saturday, but it didn't work out in the end. And he did say last week that he would love to run in the Indy 500 some day.
Craig G. (Fairfield, California)
Hey Terry. I was glad there weren't too many cautions during the Cup race. How do you feel about mainstream shows saying "everyone wants to see crashes"? I can't stand this thinking because all it does is take good drivers out of the race, cost teams thousands of dollars in damages and possibly cause injury. Your thoughts please? Thanks.
Terry Blount (1:43 PM)
Craig, in all honesty, some peple watch racing to see wrecks. No one wants any driver to get hurt, but wrecks are exciting for a lot of fans. It's a little sad, but it the same thing as people slowing down on the highway when they drive by an accident.
Ford definitely needs help. When will they start running the new engine?
Terry Blount (1:45 PM)
They will test it in Atlanta this week, but not sure when one of the top guys will use it. No one wants to be the guinea pig for fears it won't be reliable. But they have to do somehting. Ford hasn't woin a race since Week 2.
what is your take on jimmie vs. kurt
Terry Blount (1:46 PM)
They'll get over it. But restarts now are going to cause moe of these driver conflicts, which isn't a bad thing.
Speaking of Keslowski. How about tony eury?? They would have finished top had they not got caught up in other people's mess saturday night.
Terry Blount (1:48 PM)
It was a great run for them until Brad got pinched agaist the wall on a late restart. Brad got a lap down ealy in the race and might have finished in the top 5 if not for the accident. I think Tony really likes Brad and they work well together.
Jack (Brooklyn, NY)
Terry, Joey Logano is now a member of the Gillette Young Guns. Cue the jokes about not being old enough to shave.
Terry Blount (1:49 PM)
I'm sure Joey shaves once a week or so.
Chicagoland was a good race. Can't complain about it at all. Do you think we are finally improving?
Terry Blount (1:50 PM)
Only because of the restarts. Mark had checked out of the field before the late cautions spiced things up.
Is the 1 team going to get smacked hard with the increasing hershness of penalties NASCAR seems to be employing- or will it level off?
Terry Blount (1:51 PM)
They won't get a Carl Long type penalty because the problem doesn't involved the engine.
Even though Gordon came in second, he was not a top 5 car all night. His performance has been down as of late compared to his early season start. Have others caught up, is it his back or is Letarte again struggling to give him a car he can win with?
Terry Blount (1:53 PM)
Gordon still is running much better than a year ago. But he wasn't exactly happy when he came in the media center Saturday night. He knew they stole one.
Did anyone actually see any debris for the first 3 or 4 cautions?
Terry Blount (1:53 PM)
I saw the first one, not sure after that.
When will RPM use the new Dodge engine in all 4 race teams cars? It seems like Khane is reaping all the benefits.
Terry Blount (1:54 PM)
The issue is about having the funding to build enough new engines for everyone. RPM isn't in a good place on the money end right now.
Another brutal finish for Harvick, any hope of him getting out of RCR for next year?
Terry Blount (1:56 PM)
Probably not, but I think everyone at RCR feels they can turn things around before the end of the year, not that it will help Kevin much at this point.
Terry Blount (1:57 PM)
That's the plan, but they need to do this is a phased-in fashion to keep down the costs and not ruin the NW-only teams. All that hasn't been sorted out.
If Brad finishes a race better than Junior, it doesn't necessarily mean that Junior isn't a good drivers but that's what haters will say. Maybe it was the time for Junior and Eury to split not blaming either for this unfortunate season. Mark Martin and Tony Stewart have new crew chiefs and are having a great season so far. Lets see what is yet to come for Junior and Lance.
Terry Blount (1:58 PM)
I agree. Junior can drive and Tony is a good crew chief. It just wasn't working together and they both needed a fresh start. Give it time.
Drivers used to complain about dealing with lapped cars trying to get to the leader- now they complain that its hard to race 2 wide all the time- nothing will make everyone happy in the driver area- so make the fans happy!
Terry Blount (1:59 PM)
Even Jeff Gordon admitted that Saturday night, saying the new rule wasn't for drivers, it's for the fans.
Jack (Brooklyn, NY)
What's wrong with Red Bull? Vickers and Speed have issues with each other, Brian still hasn't resigned his contract and now I hear rumors they're going to become a Hendrick satellite team?
Terry Blount (2:01 PM)
GM Jay Frye is in Europe this week to settle some of these issues wit team owner Dietrich Mateschitz. We should know a lot more in a couple of weeks.
Why are J Burton and Johnson are crying, whinning and moaning about 2 file restarts?
Terry Blount (2:02 PM)
When you get wrecked, you get mad. It's pretty simple. But Burton is a lot more upset about it than JJ.
Jean (St. Louis)
Doesn' Truex to Toyota and Bucky Brad K to Penske Dodge prove that the new GM-Chevy doesn't have the power and funding it once had?
Terry Blount (2:04 PM)
No. Truex just felt MWR was more stable than EWGR. Brad K probably is staying at Chevy somewhere.
Indy is next- and the tire situation seems to be resolved- now- will we see a good race? Even under the best conditions Indy is not conducive to stock cars running side by side and passing.
Terry Blount (2:05 PM)
The restarts rule should make Indy a little better than past year.
Terry Blount (2:06 PM)
Gotta run folks. Off to talk about NASCAR Now before we do the show. Have a great week.
