Chat with Ryan Grant
Welcome to SportsNation! On Tuesday, Green Bay Packers running back Ryan Grant stops by to chat about the NFL offseason as well as the upcoming season.
Coming out of college, Grant signed as an undrafted free agent with the New York Giants and spent the 2005 season on the practice squad. He missed all of 2006 due to an arm injury that nearly ended his professional career before it even started.
Ryan was traded to the Packers during the 2007 preseason where he started out as the third-string running back, but after an injury to DeShawn Wynn, Grant was able to step into the starting rotation. He ended the season with 956 rushing yards and eight touchdowns and before the start of the 2008 season the Packers offered Grant a 4-year deal worth up to $30 million. Grant showed more progress as he ended the season with 1,203 rushing yards and four touchdowns.
Send your questions now and join Grant on Tuesday at 2 p.m. ET!

Glen Kodra (Cleveland,Ohio)
What do you like most about playing in the "tundra".
Ryan Grant (2:04 PM)
The fans. The fans are second to none. The most supportive that I've been around. They're diehard no matter what.
Mike Cif (CT)
Can you believe the Packers are only a 78 on madden, I couldn't.
Ryan Grant (2:04 PM)
Don't get caught up in the ratings. Madden just gives you a rating based on last year. We didn't have a good season last year, so our rating is that good. But everybody knows that we're way better than a 78.
Kimberly (Sheboygan, Wi)
Good afternoon Mr. Grant, So how was your off season?
Ryan Grant (2:05 PM)
Great. Great work done. Healthy faster strong. Got a chance to relax a little bit. But a lot of work done toward football.
Michael C (Tempe Arizona)
After you Arm injury in 06 almost derailed your career, what did you come to appreciate the most about football as a profession?
Ryan Grant (2:06 PM)
The game itself. The fact that it's a game. And I love it. I get a chance to play a kids game and get played to do it. Not many people can say that.
Dave (St. Louis)
Hey Ryan, how hard was it taking all of those close losses?
Ryan Grant (2:06 PM)
It was frustrating, because you're a competitor. You work so hard during the week and get so close. But you have to come back the next week and be ready to go.
Spencer Szy (Superior, WI)
Hey Ryan, everyone knows that Favre was kind of a joker when he was with the pack. Has A-Rodge filled in his footsteps and pulled any pranks while you've been in Green Bay?
Ryan Grant (2:07 PM)
Yeah, Aaron's a little prankster. He likes to do some things. I don't know about filling the shoes of Brett. We think he put some dye on someone's cleats and socks before the last day of mini camp. He's done some things.
Steve (Blacksburg, VA)
Ryan, what's a normal gameday schedule like for you?
Ryan Grant (2:09 PM)
I drive home from the hotel in th emorning of a home game. To see my family. Change my clothes. Keep to myself. Spend a little time with family then I go to the stadium three hours before. I just get my body warmed up. Stretched out. In the hot tub. Keep to myself. Make sure my uniform is ready to go and I have everything I need before the game starts. I usually do a pregame before the team goes out on the field for a warmup.
Kurt (Boise)
Hey Ryan, Whats it like being a guy who was undrafted and is now one of the better backs in the NFL?
Ryan Grant (2:09 PM)
I think it just shows what hard work can do. There are a lot of guys in this league have been in that situation, so it shows that it's not about how you come in.
Zack (toledo,oh)
What is your goal for this season?
Ryan Grant (2:10 PM)
Win a Super Bowl. Be top five in rushing. Some of hte more specific goals, I keep to myself.
Brennan (Pittsburgh,PA)
If Brett Favre returns and plays for Minnesota, how will it feel to verse him twice a year?
Ryan Grant (2:10 PM)
It would be fine.
Ryan Grant (2:11 PM)
Not an issue.
Al Johnson (Boston Massachusetts)
Ryan how do you rank you pre-season on a scale from 1 to 10?
Ryan Grant (2:11 PM)
6.
Marcus (Indiana)
Do anything exciting this offseason?
Ryan Grant (2:12 PM)
Nope. I took some vacations but nothing exciting.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Who is the toughest tackler you've ever faced?
Ryan Grant (2:12 PM)
I think Lance Briggs is one of the better tacklers in the NFL.
Dave (St. Louis)
How has the defense changed from last year? How are B.J and Clay coming along?
Ryan Grant (2:13 PM)
I think our defense will be better. The 3-4 gives guys chances to move aorund and create pressure. BJ and Clay have done a great job in the offseason. They're both big and impressive. We're both looking forward to seeing what they do with the pads on.
Brad (Gadsden, Alabama)
Who was your favorite player growing up?
Ryan Grant (2:14 PM)
Well, it's funny because when I was young and he was in college, Charles Woodson, and now I play with him. A bunch of different backs, Marcus Allen, Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, Fred Taylor. A lot of different guys.
Eli (Moline)
Do you guys think you'll sweep the Bears this season?
Ryan Grant (2:14 PM)
Uh huh. Yup.
Matt (NYC)
Any Linebacker that you fear?
Ryan Grant (2:15 PM)
No. Not at all.
Steve (WI)
What stadium is more legendary? Lambeau or Notre Dame stadium?
Ryan Grant (2:15 PM)
Oooohhh...that's a good question. I think they're both neck and neck.
Ryan Grant (2:16 PM)
Thanks for all the support. I look forward to a great season and bringing that Lombardi trophy back home.
