Sue and Diana will be here shortly, everyone!
Sue Bird (10:09 AM)
Hey everyone, thanks for writing your questions in. Let's get started!
Jia (Sydney)
Hey Sue, what were you thinking when the game went into triple overtime (7/22)? You came alive!! I was thinking that maybe you just wanted to finish the game, so you decided to take the ball and grab that win for Seattle. At any point did you think that LA would win?
Sue Bird (10:10 AM)
Actually, some of my teammates had red-eye flights for the All-Star break, so I was thinking we needed to win as soon as possible, or else I would have some people mad at me...j/k. Because it was our home court, we needed to take advantage of it and not let L.A. get the W.
Joey (Singapore)
Hi Sue, I'm a point guard on my college team. What's the best thing to do in order to stay consistent and lead your team?
Sue Bird (10:11 AM)
Hey Joey, good question. The best thing to do in order to stay consistent is to remember that no matter how you're playing, whether good or bad, you can always be a leader. Don't ever let that waver.
Roxanne (Phoenix, AZ)
Sue and Diana, if you two went 1-on-1, who would win it?
Sue Bird (10:12 AM)
I know Diana will say her, and I'd probably have to agree. But if I was taller I'd definitely win, and she'd say if she was quicker.
Sue Bird (10:12 AM)
Or if I had go-go Gadget arms like Diana.
Brad (Gadsden, Alabama)
Sue, Do you have any pre-game rituals?
Sue Bird (10:13 AM)
Yes I do, and generally I keep those a secret. Keeping it secret's a part of the ritual. Sorry Brad ;)
Meredith (Atlanta)
Hi Sue, how do you feel about being back in CT and playing in the All-Star game?
Sue Bird (10:14 AM)
Coming back to Connecticut is always something I look forward to, and the fact that the All-Star game is here is a double bonus. I can't wait to play.
Novisha (PA)
Sue, are you still driving your Range Rover? What do you like most about it?
Sue Bird (10:15 AM)
If you really live in Pennsylvania, how do you know what I drive? Haha. Yes, I still have it, and I love it. They should definitely give me an endorsement deal for that line alone. Go Rover!
David (Star, MS)
If you were to run the Amazing Race, would you pick each other as your respective partners?
Sue Bird (10:16 AM)
David, funny you should ask! We've talked about entering The Amazing Race, but the timing is always so difficult, as is the timing with everything considering we never stop playing.
John (White Plains, NY)
Hello Sue...I know that you spend part of the year playing in Russia...how does the competition in Russia compare to your college playing days or the WNBA?
Sue Bird (10:17 AM)
The European game has its differences, but it's definitely catching up to the game in America. For right now, I'd have to say the biggest difference is the refereeing and the way they call the games.
kevin (macon ga)
Haven you been watching Lisa Leslie on the Superstars? Do you think you could do better?
Sue Bird (10:19 AM)
I've only caught one episode, and her and David Charvet held it down in the final challenge. But I definitely think I could give her a run for her money as long as height isn't the advantage. Can you guys tell I'm conscious about my vertical challenge?
Sue Bird (10:20 AM)
Gotta go, thanks again for stopping by, and don't forget to check out the All-Star game. Later!
Buzzmaster (10:20 AM)
Diana is up next!
Diana Taurasi (10:21 AM)
What's up, SportsNation?
Brad (Gadsden, Alabama)
Diana, Who is your favorite NBA team?
Diana Taurasi (10:21 AM)
World Champion Los Angeles Lakers. Born and raised in Southern California!
Erik (Orlando, FL)
How long are you in Russia before you start getting on each other's neves?
Diana Taurasi (10:22 AM)
You know, we get along really well, so probably a good three months into it, we get to the point where Sue needs her Sue time, and I need my D time. But we keep it rockin'.
Uneque Parker (B-Town)
Diana what was it like to play at U-CONN and for Coach Geno.
Diana Taurasi (10:24 AM)
Playing at UConn was the best experience of my life. As far as for Coach Geno, we are just really lucky to have another opportunity to play under him and learn from his wealth of basketball knowledge. Love you coach!
Erin Hengesbach (Portland, MI)
I know there was ssome debate on who was the better table tennis player, so who do you think is better now?
Diana Taurasi (10:25 AM)
There was never a question of who was the better table tennis player. My Russian house record was 113-3. The three losses were to Igor.
LYNETTE BAKER (Seattle WA)
DIANA in your opnion where does maya moore rank at such a young age as one of the greats of uconn
Diana Taurasi (10:27 AM)
Well, she's already made her mark, and it's a pretty good one, but she has three more years to put herself as one of the best players to ever touch a basketball, and I don't doubt that she will.
Beth (New York)
So do you guys have any special plans with the rest of the gang from Connecticut for the weekend? I know Diana at least has a game on Sunday, so that probably makes things a little tight. How do you feel about this all star break not really being a break because you guys started later this year for the longer pre-season, do you like it better or worse?
Diana Taurasi (10:28 AM)
Obviously you would like All-Star weekend to be a weekend to enjoy the people around you, but it's a little tough this year having a game the next day. But there's always time for UConn love.
ryan (norristown pa)
i could beat diana taurasi 1-1 im better then her she cant beat me
Diana Taurasi (10:29 AM)
Good luck making the freshman team this year.
Diana Taurasi (10:30 AM)
The dunking, I'm going to leave up to my girl Sylvia Fowles. She's been known to try to execute the dunk better than anyone I know.
Carl (Eugene, OR)
Your team seems to be really gelling this year. What's different from last year? What can you say about your coach's philosophy on offense? Peace to you!
Diana Taurasi (10:31 AM)
The difference is last year, we had a brand new team with a lot of different pieces and coaches. This year, we feel more comfortable with each others' game, and training camp really did help us with the style of play we try to enforce on other teams.
dee (sk)
So, Sue was asked the same question but what do you think? You and Sue, 1-on-1. Who wins?
Diana Taurasi (10:32 AM)
One on one is always a funny question, but I wouldn't be against myself. And if I was bow-legged and quick, I might win.
Audrey ((CT))
how do you feel about the rookie dewanna bonner
Diana Taurasi (10:33 AM)
Dewanna, aka "Cutie", aka "Sticks", will be a star. Don't quote me on that.
Diana Taurasi (10:34 AM)
Thank you for tuning in. Saturday at 3:30, WNBA All-Star game, respect man!
Diana Taurasi (10:34 AM)
