Ted Miller (2:58 PM)
Howdy folks... fire away with your questions, concerns and issues...
What was the difference in Masoli in that game at Boise? He was throwing at peoples feet, hesitating, making poor decisions. Was it all the O-line or did he take a big step back?
Ted Miller (3:01 PM)
It was the O-line and Masoli... But let's see what the Ducks do this weekend before jumping off the top of the building, eh Duck fans?To me, the O-line is the chief concern. I saw Masoli blossom last year and I'm not ready to say he unlearned everything while busting his butt his summer
Travis (Golden, CO)
Yes, LSU looked sloppy and uninspired, but give credit to Washington for playing hard and solid football. Do you think they can win 6 this year and get to a bowl? And will Jake Locker leave for the draft if they do?
Ted Miller (3:03 PM)
Credit to Washington and its new coaching staff no doubt.Six wins feels like a stretch, in large part because the Huskies scheduled teams like LSU and Notre Dame. I won't be able to completely buy in until we see the Huskies post a Pac-10 win... at Stanford maybe or when Arizona comes to down on Oc.t 10.
devin (whitmore lake)
who will a biger game matt barkley or tate foricer both have hard teams to play on saturday ?
Ted Miller (3:04 PM)
Travis (Los Angeles)
True or Flase: Oregon's Pac-10 title hopes is crushed.
Ted Miller (3:05 PM)
false... Boise State isn't in the Pac-10.And both Cal and USC must visit Oregon.Do I think the Ducks are going to win the pac-10.. no...But their hopes endure...
Ian (New York, NY)
What do you think of Arizona State's chances this year? If they struggle do you see a coaching change coming soon?
Ted Miller (3:06 PM)
I think Dennis Erickson is building a strong foundation that pays off in 2010 and 2011... The Sun Devils look to be a team that could finish between 5-7 and 7-5 this year.I think Erickson is highly motivated to build a winner in Tempe. And there's no reason to believe he won't.
Ted, will anyone be MAN enough to vote USC #1 if they beat OSU, it bothers me that everyone seems to dismiss the fact that Florida and Texas play NO ONE OOC. And it bothers me even more that the same people the bash FSU rush to give UF credit for playing them every year.
Ted Miller (3:08 PM)
I think Florida has earned the right to hold onto the No. 1 ranking until it loses. And the Gators play Florida State out of conference
Craig G. (Fairfield, California)
Hey Ted, do you think Kevin Reilly is the best QB in the Pac-10? Any pro potential?
Ted Miller (3:10 PM)
Boy you cal fans... one week Riley is the weak link, next week he's the Pac-10's best QB...Riley had a great game vs. Maryland and has the potential, with his supporting case, to be in the race for all-conference honors...Might want to hold off crowning him before he goes to Oregon and plays USC, though.
Jeff (Los Angeles, CA)
Ted, do you think Joe McKnight should be getting the bulk of the carries at USC over Stafon Johnson? I realize the potential for a big play is important, but every game I watch it seems like USC takes over when Johnson is running tough between the tackles (this includes San Jose State). Johnson got the offense going, then McKnight broke a big run after they were already rolling.
Ted Miller (3:11 PM)
I'm a big Stafon Johnson fan... and it has seemed like McKnight has been coddled by the USC coaches and held to a different standard. That said: McKnight is a great talent. We have yet to see what he can do when healthy and not fumbling... maybe we will now.
Will J (Portland, OR)
Last question regarding Blount. I think initially Oregon should've suspended Blount indefinitely, and then took time to think about their punishment. They could've always suspended him for the year later, but how quickly they came to that conclusion seemed more of a PR move, than a decision on the player himself.
Ted Miller (3:13 PM)
At the time, I thought Oregon made the right move with the season-long deal. Now, I agree with you and other folks who think it was too harsh... Benefit of hindsight...The lesson in the future is, as you note, being vague allows you to re-evaluate as the season goes on.
Ali (Islamabad, Pakistan)
My mind tells me we(UCLA) lose to the Vols by 3 TDS or more on Saturday, but my heart says we go into Neyland and come out with a miraculous victory. Would you kindly give me some hope for a Bruin victory?Go Bruins!
Ted Miller (3:15 PM)
Winner for long distance chatter! The UCLA defense should give the Bruins hope. The youth on offense is the cause for concern, particularly at qb and the o-line... but who knows... if the young guys stay focused and play smart, the Bruins could pull the upset.. recall that few gave them a shot last year.
Should a flu outbreak be a serious concern to teams right now? After Ole Miss and Mark Ingram, it seems that this might be a legitimate concern...
Ted Miller (3:17 PM)
I've been reading and hearing about flu everywhere -- down south, out west, etc...It's got me worried because I've got a 9-month old.So, yeah, it's a concern... a football game and football stadium is a great place to pass a virus along...Hopefully, this outbreak will pass in the next couple of weeks and we all can stop being paranoid
Austin Hansen (Anaheim, CA)
Does BYU have a legitimate shot at a national championship? Will the MWC get an auto-bid in the next 5 years?
Ted Miller (3:19 PM)
If BYU goes undefeated, it might... but it needs everyone else to have a loss... and it might help if the Cougars blow some folks out...
Andrew (Corvallis, OR)
How well do you think that OSU will play against UNLV?
Ted Miller (3:22 PM)
If the Beavers don't take that game seriously, they will lose... but my guess is the Beavers are eager to get off to a fast start after three consecutive 2-3 starts, so they will play well...UNLV's offense might challenge OSU, but my guess is the Beavers will score some points against a mediocre rebels defense...
To follow up Austin Hansen's comment, how do you feel about conferences being rotated into auto-bid positions. The ACC has been an embarrasment while the MWC grows stronger and stronger. Whichever auto-bid perfomrs the worse can be replaced by another conference if it perfomed better than the auto-bid conference.
Ted Miller (3:24 PM)
All of this comes down to money... I don't think the ACC is in any danger... The Big East might be another story... and the MWC is the most likely to get a promotion... still, there's a lot of politicking in this, so promotion-demotion figures to be a complicated process..
Matt Scott put up pretty good numbers against CMU this Saturday. But he was about 2 for 10 (missing badly at times) when he threw a pass that had to travel more than five yards downfield. Is the Arizona QB controversy settleed?
Ted Miller (3:25 PM)
I think Scott will be given a chance to grow into the job because his speed offers so many options for an offense... but the true measure will be at Iowa in two weeks... If Scott starts throwing picks and the offense stalls then Foles might get a shot...
Austin Hansen (Anaheim, CA)
So only if BYU is the only undefeated team, and even then maybe not.
Ted Miller (3:26 PM)
yep... blame the computers...Now... if the MWC has a banner year, maybe the computers won't penalize the Cougars
Blake (Abilene, TX)
I woul like to see all the confrences have to qualify it would put pressure on teams to scedual better.
Ted Miller (3:27 PM)
I appreciate your sentiments...
An undefeated BSU or a 1-loss ND, which of the two do you think would get into a BCS game?
Ted Miller (3:28 PM)
if the bowl has the option, it would always pick ND... always... but sometimes these things are forced...
Will J (Portland, OR)
Which Pac-10 team surprised you the most this weekend? Cal? I know they were suppose to be good, but my goodness.
Ted Miller (3:29 PM)
Washington... I thought Cal would look good.
eric windomere (san francisco)
How do you feel the UCLA vs. USC rivalry will be in coming years with Neuheisel changing Pete's recruiting dominance head on?
Ted Miller (3:30 PM)
I think it will again become a national game because both teams will be ranked annually... it seems to me there are a handful of teams that are pushing hard to challenge the Trojans... the middle of the pac-10 is getting stronger.
Will J (Portland, OR)
Can we expect to see Stanford play like that on a consistent basis, or is Wazzu just that bad?
Ted Miller (3:31 PM)
Ask me after the game at Wake Forest... that's a winnable game for the Cardinal and could announce their return...
Alex (Madison, WI)
What does Washington State need to do to become a Pac-10 caliber program again?
Ted Miller (3:32 PM)
recruiting like crazy and then develop their players... see Oregon State right now and how things used to be done in pullman.
Ted Miller (3:33 PM)
Folks... I'm sorry but I've got to run... a repairman just gave my wife some bad news... next week I'll go a full hour... apologies.Good luck this weekend ...
