Christopher Harris (11:01 AM)
Hi, everyone. A quarter of the way through the fantasy football season -- let's get right to your questions.
It's safe to say....drop all RAIDERS, correct...? (There are 2 in my league and I own both.) Also...what would you do with Braylon Edwards? The Browns came back to life yesterday...yet Braylon was very mediocre...
Christopher Harris (11:02 AM)
Hi, Jeff. Do we drop McFadden? I'm not sure. I mean, he was ungodly bad, obviously, and there's probably not any way you can start him unless you own him in a 16-team league (like I do! yay!), but I'm not sure we don't put him on the bench for a bit just to see what happens. As for Edwards -- yeah, I'm still on board with owning him, certainly, but I'm probably not starting him just yet.
Hey Chris! Is Larry Johnson even worth keeping around at this point? Mendenhall is available in our league.
Christopher Harris (11:04 AM)
Hi, CJ. It completely depends on your league format. I have a hard time dropping starting running backs. But obviously last night made it clear that Mendenhall is worth at *least* a speculative add in all leagues. If LJ has no hope of starting for you and he's the most droppable candidate you've got, do it.
Joe (Philly, PA)
Good Morning Chris. Do you have any buy low RB candidates? And is Rashard Mendenhall for real?
Christopher Harris (11:06 AM)
Hi, Joe. Buy-low...well, last week I was begging people to trade for Matt Forte and Steve Slaton, so hopefully that helped. I still think Ray Rice is undervalued, but his upside is limited by a lack of TDs. Um, I still think Steven Jackson might be a little undervalued. As for Mendenhall, "for real" is such a hard thing to quantify. He has strikes against him: Parker should come back, and Mendenhall is also a fumbler, something which didn't rear its head yesterday. But as I said, he should be owned.
Do you like Garrard over Ryan going Forward, I have Schaub as my starter and looking for a good back-up?
Christopher Harris (11:06 AM)
Hi, Steve. No. I like Ryan more. Garrard doesn't get to throw against the Titans every week.
is Massaquoi a one hit wonder?
Christopher Harris (11:07 AM)
Hi, Darren. I mean, he's a second-round pick and someone the Browns clearly view as part of their future. The fact that he had one good game *could* make it easier for Edwards to get open. Yeah, I don't think I'm going to have Massaquoi in my top 50 WRs this week (or if I do, it'll be close to the bottom). But he's worth keeping in mind, and potentially adding in deeper leagues.
Better value going forward James Harrison or Rashard Mendenhall? I own Parker. Thanks
Christopher Harris (11:09 AM)
Hi, Kevin. Good question. I have to say -- I haven't completely formulated my opinion yet, but I'd better get on that, because I have to rank for the Big Rotowski this afternoon (to be published tomorrow). At first blush, I think Harrison will be ranked higher, because I think he has a clearer path to more carries. But if you're a Parker owner, I think you probably add Mendenhall either way.
Brian (Northern Maine)
Hey Chris, Well, Drew Brees has done it again, left me short in most of the leagues i own him. I mean im losing to teams by oh i dont know 5-10 points ans Brees is only giving me like 6 points. I know its Brees and he will have good weeks but should i be looking to trade him at this point?
Christopher Harris (11:10 AM)
Hi, Brian. Repeat after me: Don't Draft A Quarterback Early. How many times did I write that this spring and summer? Don't do it. It's almost never worth it. Each year, we *think* we know which QB will wind up on top. And we almost always blow it. That said, I think you're pretty much committed to the guy, and you weren't complaining after the first two weeks. If you sell now, you're selling low.
what is LTs value going forward? Are you buying him at all if you can get him?
Christopher Harris (11:11 AM)
Hi, Chris. I'm not. I've been down on him from the word 'go' this spring, and if it had been left up to me, we'd have ranked him 14th among RBs before the season started. (That's where I had him.) I'm not ruling out good weeks here or there, but he's not a buy-low in my book.
What do I do with T.O.? The last couple of games he's been the difference between a win and a loss for me... do I drop him for someone like Sims-Walker or Manningham? I need help!
Christopher Harris (11:13 AM)
Hi, Harry. Well, for me, it's mighty tough to drop a guy like T.O., I have to admit. He started yesterday's game really well, but after that he was held hostage by Trent Edwards' awfulness. (Can we finally put the notion that Edwards is an above-average NFL quarterback to bed?) Manningham showed stone-hands throughout the day yesterday, and MSW doesn't run against the Titans every week. I can't hate on you if you do something like this, because Owens has been a letdown. But I can almost guarantee I'm going to have him ranked ahead of these other two guys in tomorrow's year-end ranks.
Shane (Edison, NJ)
Who Dat @ 4-0?? I spot started CIN D this week, will they be usuable going forward? And should I dump TENN D for the SAINTS Juggernaut D?
Christopher Harris (11:15 AM)
Hi, Shane. I think the Bengals will be usable many weeks, though against the Ravens next week I'm less sure. I'm not ready to call the Saints a juggernaut, though the national media is freaking out over how awesome they are. But yeah, I think the Titans D has run its course. Unfortunately, that was one I swung and missed badly on -- and now that the secondary is banged-up as well as, well, rather putrid, it may just be time to drop 'em.
After a slow start and a bye week, do you like Roddy White or Steve Smith as a better buy low?
Christopher Harris (11:15 AM)
Hi, Rich. It's close, and be sure to tune into the Big Rotowski tomorrow noon to get my definitive decision on this. But I'm betting right now that I'll still have Smith (CAR) above White by a few spots. I like 'em both as buy-lows, though.
What's the story w/ the Jets RBs? Own both Jones & Washington, can't sell and can't start 'em.
Christopher Harris (11:18 AM)
Hi, Mike. Yeah, and to make matters worse, Shonn Greene played yesterday, and not during garbage time. Plus he looked more explosive than Jones. I still like the Jets O-line in theory, but yesterday was an example of a defense that just didn't really respect Sanchez (and, let's face it, he didn't give them a lot of reason to respect him). You're right -- both guys are really limited by one another's presence. And Jones, to be honest, has looked rather crummy.
Tom (San Diego)
Hey Chris, Please discusss Fred Jackson. Is he tradeable, If so for who? Thanks
Christopher Harris (11:19 AM)
Hi, Tom. Well, I don't mean to say this in a flip way, but you may have waited a week too long. Lynch was involved in the passing game yesterday, which was supposed to be Jackson's domain, and this during a game where Lynch was supposedly being eased by into things. It probably wasn't a great game to judge either RB because the Bills were getting thrashed, but I think it's safe to say Jackson's trade value just took a major, possibly fatal hit.
Is Brandon Marshall a top 10 WR at the end of the year???and I'm gonna put this on every question which is why i wont get any answered but will you admit you were wrong about steven jackson and benson... I mean anybody could tell you that jackson was gonna struggle why was he ranked so high and dont give me nonsense about him being their only option because other defenses know that and will game plan to stop the run.... ESPN experts are just fantasy nerds with non educated guesses and I'm jealous of your job
Christopher Harris (11:23 AM)
Hi, Bryan. By the end of the year -- no, I think Marshall will live in that 11 to 20 range, and it's because of Kyle Orton. I mean, take away the short-pass/long-run at the end of yesterday's game, and you probably wouldn't be asking that question. I understand the jealousy -- I have an amazing job, and I really try and appreciate it every day, which is why I've taken to trying to answer questions on Facebook in my free time, to try and give something back. I don't believe I was particularly wrong on either Jackson *or* Benson this week. Other rankers on our site had Benson as their No. 2 option at RB -- not me. And Jackson accounted for 85 yards from scrimmage, which isn't great, but if he'd gotten a cheapie TD, you wouldn't have written that question. Get your s--t straight, Bryan. If you want to take me to task, how about for Darren McFadden? And if you think my guesses are "non-educated" -- what the heck does it say about you that you read them?
You say Ray Rice is undervalued, but how does he compare to other timeshare RB's like Donald Brown and Marshawn Lynch? More or less valuable?
Christopher Harris (11:25 AM)
Hi, Roger. Well, I guess when it comes to most timeshares, TDs are just mighty hard to predict. You can't guess when Addai *and* Brown will get one (like yesterday), when one will get one, and when neither will get one. That's why I focus on how guys are being used. Addai has a leg up on Brown in terms of usage right now. Lynch *probably* has a leg up on Jackson, but it's close. But Rice has a *real* leg up on McGahee, from what I can see. The rub is that in Rice's case, he hasn't been lucky enough to get more than 1 TD this year. But he's *obviously* a far superior player, and the Ravens recognize this. So I think Rice is worth more than those other guys, though on a week-by-week basis, that might not always be borne out.
Is Pierre Thomas an elite RB at this point?
Christopher Harris (11:28 AM)
Hi, Keyton. Elite is really in the eye of the beholder. Most years, I'd actually still say "no," because I don't think his skill set stands out as being spectacular. But at the moment, he's one of very few backs who seem to have a job all to themselves, and that counts for a lot this season. Will I have him in my top 10 RBs in tomorrow's list? Hm. That's a tough one. I think it's going to be borderline. I know everyone's writing off Mike Bell at this point, but in a couple weeks, there *is* a chance that Bell eats into Thomas's carries a bit.
Bob (New Jersey)
Monday Night Question!!!!!! Berrian or Chester Taylor in a ppr league tonight. Thanks
Christopher Harris (11:29 AM)
Hi, Bob. Eesh. Good one. Last year, I'd have said Taylor, because Peterson came out on so many passing downs. But he hasn't been doing so as much this season, so it's closer. Mm. I want to *see* Berrian do damage before I trust him. So I still think I go Taylor, though I'd say Berrian pretty much as a better chance at scoring a TD...
Willie Parker (Ohio)
Do I get my spot back next week if I'm healthy?
Christopher Harris (11:30 AM)
That's one of the big questions of the week. I'm guessing that FWP is *not* a clear, no-handcuff starter even if his toe magically heals, which I don't think it will. Mendenhall just looked too good, albeit against a terrible Chargers rush defense. *If* Parker is healthy, we've probably just launched yet another platoon.
It's come to the point where we have to actually differentiate the steve smith's don't we? Can the NYG version keep up top 10 wr numbers throughout the rest of the season?
Christopher Harris (11:32 AM)
Hi, Kyle. Yeah, there was a funny graphic on our Fantasy Football main page last night (probably is still there right now): a split screen of the two Steve Smiths. I did a radio bit this morning where I was asked if Smith (NYG) is a must-start every week. How can I say no? I think he's heading into my top 10 this afternoon, but check back Tuesday to check for sure.
Since when was Parker in Ohio??
Christopher Harris (11:32 AM)
Heh. Great toe-rehab facilities in Ohio, I hear.
Thanks for all your work and for the FB group, everyone should friend you! Is there a handcuff to Ryan grant? I know brandon jackson had a lot of pub but he's been injured. Grant is my only full-time healthy back and i have dregs like maurice morris on the bench to drop for Grant's handcuff, is it Desean Wynn? I'm confused/bewildered
Christopher Harris (11:34 AM)
Hi, Al. Yeah, Jackson has been hurt pretty much all year. Right now it's Wynn, but I don't think the Packers would necessarily trust him to be their unquestioned No. 1 if Grant goes down. If he does, it's probably some kind of timeshare that has the potential to be ugly like (to name a couple) MJD in Jacksonville and Forte in Chcago.
Hi Chris. What's your opinion on A. Bryant and D. Avery?
Christopher Harris (11:35 AM)
Hi, Scott. Bryant's return was a good story yesterday -- though I have to admit I haven't watched that game film yet, so I don't have a great sense of how involved he was. Avery is simply limited by what's around him and, potentially, his own hands. (Haven't watched SF/STL either.) So my opinion on each of these guys may changed based on what I see with my own eyeballs, but at the moment, Bryant seems to vault back into consideration, while Avery -- though he's STL's No. 1 back -- is probably still not close to fantasy relevance.
is the Broncos D/st that good, or are the Cowboys that bad.
Christopher Harris (11:37 AM)
Well, they're better than I gave 'em credit for to start the year. The thing that confused me most about that game was the Cowboys game plan. They jammed it down Denver's throat in the first half, with Marion Barber, mostly, and it worked. Then they went pass-happy again, which seems to happen to them quite a lot. And they threw at Champ Bailey *19* times! Champ is probably sore this morning. That said, it's too flip and easy to just write off the Broncos success on defense. Elvis Dumervil is a (relative) midget, but he's taken to playing OLB really well (8 sacks). I don't know if I'm starting 'em against the Pats next week, but they're climbing in my ranks, I think.
Getting Cute (Chicago)
Should I trade Vincent Jackson for the Steve "Carolina" Smith so that I can start both Steve Smiths at WR?
Christopher Harris (11:38 AM)
That *is* very cute. But no.
Over/under Westbrook playing in 10 games this season?
Christopher Harris (11:39 AM)
Hi, Gary. Hm. I'm going to guess "over," but I don't feel super confident about it. I think the way LeSean McCoy played in Week 3 lessens the strain on Westy, and that you probably won't see him get 20 carries in a game once the rest of the year. I had *him* as my RB13 on my personal list before the season, and I don't feel too badly about that right now.
Eddie Royal?? WTF??!??!
Christopher Harris (11:41 AM)
Hi, Matt. Yeah, Royal is basically a kick returner and offensive decoy at this point. Two weeks ago, I said the same thing about Brandon Marshall and Royal -- you couldn't be starting either one, but each guy was worth holding onto to see what happens the next few games. Well, Marshall went one way and Royal went the other. Honestly, the way Kyle Orton played yesterday (i.e., badly), I don't think any Denver receiver is going to have the value I hoped they might when Josh McDaniels took over there. But Royal is a mess. I still think he's really, really talented. I still don't want to drop him. But if you need the roster spot.......
Khalid (New York)
what is a good value for Andre Johnson in ppr, looking for a rb.
Christopher Harris (11:41 AM)
Aim high, Khalid. You should get a top 10 RB for him.
Time to look elsewhere after 3 straight bad starts from Romo?
Christopher Harris (11:42 AM)
Hi, Earl. I didn't think Romo played Badly in Week 3 against Carolina -- not huge stats, but he *played* well. But boy, you couldn't be more right about yesterday. He was just awful. I would hesitate to drop him completely, but I can tell you: I think he's taking a tumble in my year-end ranks tomorrow.
Who is a better pickup off the waiver wire....Lance Moore or Antonio Bryant?
Christopher Harris (11:44 AM)
Hi, Jordan. Are you the same Jordan who was just asking about baseball, too? And sent me the note on Facebook? Sorry -- I lost that question, was just about to answer. So let me give a two-fer: I think Bryant is probably a better pickup based on his skills, though again, I haven't watched the WAS/TB game yet. As for fantasy baseball -- *yes*, the playoff game tomorrow *does* count as part of the regular season. So if your league is close, tomorrow could determine things.
What are your feelings on Kenny Britt? Entering WR3 territory any time soon?
Christopher Harris (11:46 AM)
Hi, AJ. I like Britt's physique and skills, but I also think yesterday's performance was a result of the score. You won't see the Titans pass it 48 times and rush it 19 times very often. I don't have Britt quite that high in a standard league, though dynasty leaguers will already have their eyes squarely on him....
Any word on Eli's heel?
Christopher Harris (11:48 AM)
Hi, Dan. Weirdness, because Eli said he could've gone back in, and Coughlin said he couldn't have. But I think the general consensus seems to be that Manning will be fine for next week against the Raiders. It looked scary at the time, though.
Are we sure Tenn won't be passing that often? Maybe they just aren't that good and will be way behind in alot of game.
Christopher Harris (11:49 AM)
Hi, Nick. Well, that's a good point. I don't think they'll get *that* far behind, *that* often, but I could be wrong about that. In general, though, I just don't see the Titans passing game as a good resource, because I think Kerry Collins kind of stinks. I know his numbers look roughly the same as last year, but I think his accuracy has really fallen off in general, and he's not a guy who can carry a team, IMO. In fact, don't be surprised if Vince Young starts in Week 6 if the Titans lose to the Colts next week.
Any word on Stafford's knee?
Christopher Harris (11:50 AM)
Hi, Dan. The Lions are calling it a kneecap subluxation, which means it popped out and popped back in again without prompting. That isn't particularly serious, though he'll have an MRI today. If he's cleared, it'll probably wind up being a matter of pain tolerance to see if he can go next week.
Will Welker be another GTD next sunday?
Christopher Harris (11:51 AM)
Hi, Eric. Probably. It's maddening. I guess it was good to see him make it through an entire game, though he got less involved as the game progressed, and the thought did cross my mind if it was a physical thing. I'm going to rank him this week in weekly ranks (which will be out Wednesday). But his owners should really pay attention to practice this week. If it *is* a GTD, it won't be as convenient as it's been the past couple weeks, because the Pats play at 4 p.m. ET in Denver.
Regardless of the Parker/Mendenhall, will Moore remain the 3rd down back with some flex play value during bye weeks? I benched LT and Sproles for him last night... and sadly it wasn't that tough of a decision.
Christopher Harris (11:52 AM)
Hi, Matt. That *is* sad. And Moore rewarded you. Yeah, I would think that Moore stays in during 2-minute-drills, still, which in that offense isn't completely without value.
how do you view the rest of the year for steve slaton?
Christopher Harris (11:54 AM)
Hi, Joe. I think he's a low-level RB1 or high-level RB2, which is where I've had him all year. But I'll say this: if Chris Brown is really hurt or if he's in a more permanent doghouse, that could go up. A main worry for Slaton owners has been the idea of the guy losing short-yardage carries. Didn't seem to be as much of a problem yesterday, though Ryan Moats did get a ton of work in the blowout.
Bob (Madison, WI)
Who starts in your lineup more times the rest of the season? Darren McFadden, Mewelde Moore or Tashard Choice. And yes, I am serious.
Christopher Harris (11:55 AM)
Hi, Bob. Ew. This is a really interesting question, and there's no definitive answer, because it requires us to guess across multiple lines. I'm going to guess McFadden, though he sure ain't gonna be in there for the next couple weeks. I think he's the best player of the group, and that *something* eventually will give with the Raiders, even if it's just their head coach being arrested. Someone is going to put JaMarcus Russell out of his misery, I think. But yeah, that's ugly.
Benson owner (Chicago)
I wasnt able to watch the Cinci/Cleve game yesterday but I did notice Benson missed alot of the game? Was he hurt or something? Didnt put up numbers until the end of the game.
Christopher Harris (11:57 AM)
No, he wasn't hurt. The Bengals just didn't run at all in the middle of the game. Carson Palmer threw and threw, and couldn't get *anything* going, and overall I thought it was a freaky and weird game plan. I still think Benson is a sell-high, though some of his luster came off this week. (But if you sell high on him, sell *very* high. His numbers still look very good.)
Would you sell high on MSW for Steve Smith (Car)?
Christopher Harris (11:57 AM)
Hi, Jon. Heavens yes.
What are your views on Kurt Warner?
Christopher Harris (11:58 AM)
Hi, Keyton. Well, I think he's old. And I think he's looking at shorter routes a lot more this year, perhaps because defenses are coming after him harder than they did last year, or perhaps because he's physically not right yet. I'm not giving up hope on him. But hopefully whatever's ailing him got cleared up during the bye.
Scott (Kansas City)
Any idea why Pierre Thomas is so underutilized in the first half of games? Is this an intentional part of the offensive game plan or more just a function of the flow of the game?
Christopher Harris (12:01 PM)
Hi, Scott. Well, last week in Buffalo, he was sick and dehydrated and could only play special teams; he got an IV at the half, then felt well enough to play. Yesterday, I didn't think Thomas was *super* uninvolved in the first half -- the Saints tried to throw it deep to him a couple times, and he got a fair number of carries, but you're right, they came out in the second half and pounded with him a few times in a row and that really seemed to tilt the field in the Saints' direction. I agree that the game plan was for the Saints to try and throw early and that didn't always work, but I don't think there's any major strategy to stay away from Thomas in the first half.
Caddy didn't look too bad. Thoughts on him moving forward, and is it still a 50/50 split when Ward comes back?
Christopher Harris (12:02 PM)
Hi, Reggie. Again, not a game I've watched, but the numbers and highlights did look OK for Williams, and more importantly his knee is all right. Yeah, I'd have to say that at the moment, if Williams isn't injured, a split is the best Ward can hope for. I still don't know that I buy Williams staying healthy all year, but we shall see.
Can you explain your usage of the asterisk ("*"). I have no idea what that means. Is it in lieu of the the quotation marks? (" ")
Christopher Harris (12:02 PM)
Hi, Peter. No, it's in lieu of bolding, or emphasis. Like I *really* think it's good....
Christopher Harris (12:03 PM)
All right gang, one more and then I've gotta get back to writing....
If buckhalter is hurt will Knowshon be the sole guy in Denver?
Christopher Harris (12:04 PM)
Hi, Kyle. Well, I think it wouldn't *hurt* Moreno if that were the case, though it sounds like Buckhalter's injury is "just" a sprained ankle. But I also think Moreno fumbling yesterday in what was otherwise an OK effort doesn't help his cause. If I know my Belichick coaching tree, I'd guess that someone like LaMont Jordan might get involved just enough to tick Moreno's fantasy owners off....
Christopher Harris (12:07 PM)
OK, all -- thanks for coming...we got over 1,500 questions in a single hour, so while I know it's frustrating not to get your question answered, I hope you'll understand. Before I give you my Facebook address, let me emphasize: A) If you have a question about who's worth more between now and the end of the year, *don't* ask it on Facebook. Check in Tuesday -- I publish exactly that column in "The Big Rotowski." B) If you have a lineup question for Week 5, *don't* ask it on Facebook. We publish our weekly ranks Wednesday right here on .com, and then update them Friday. The exception to this is if you have flex questions -- but I *won't* have an answer for you until Wednesday, because I won't have my weekly ranks until then. All those caveats applied, you can friend me and ask me questions at www.facebook.com/writerboy. Thanks for coming.
