Bill Williamson (2:02 PM)
Hey everyone, let's get going.
What do you think of Oakland's talent sans Russell? Is he holding them back or are their far greater issues?
Bill Williamson (2:04 PM)
At first, I thought Russell was the the only probelm. But he is not. Oakland has big issues on both sides of the ball. A great QB would help, but this team is not close to being a playoff contender.
Brian (Fishers, IN)
Hard being a Chiefs fan this season, but there are tiny signs of hope. I think their front office decided turning around the defense would be a two year project (given the shift to a 3-4, and asking two first-round draft picks to play new positions), which is why they put off addressing the o-line until 2010. They concentrated on the D this year, and they'll likely draft o-line in 2010. Does that sound plausible?
Bill Williamson (2:06 PM)
Sure, the Chiefs are likely going to have a top-five (top one?)and I think getting a top tackle isa priority.
Mike (Parker, CO)
What is your prediction for the final AFC West stadings?
Bill Williamson (2:07 PM)
Guys, we can do this week-to-week as long I have the right to change week-to-week.Denver 12-4San Diego 10-6Oakland 4-12Kansas City 3-13
Caleb (Salida, CO)
Bill, is Tony Scheffler and Chris Kuper in their final years as well? And will the Broncos resign Kuper? (I know they won't resign Scheffler)
Bill Williamson (2:08 PM)
Yes, but if there is no CBA, they will be restricted FAs.
Johnathan (Washington DC)
What do you see being the biggest obstacle the Broncos will face on Monday?
Bill Williamson (2:09 PM)
Oral Roberts (Modesto)
When does Marshall and his agent go back to milking the Broncos like a cow for a new contract? I doubt that he and McDaniels will still be buddies when the contract talks heat up again...
Bill Williamson (2:09 PM)
That's probably a talk for February.
Pappy (Martinez, Ca.)
Any chance the Chargers make a trade before the deadline?
Bill Williamson (2:12 PM)
We've all heard A.J. Smith has been making calls. He has been aggressive at the deadline in the past. The interesting thing is, San Diego plays Monday night, and the deadline is 1 p.m. PT Tuesday, so Smith won't have much evaluation time if he wants to make a deal at the deadline.
Matt Cassel isn't producing as well as most people thought he should have, especially after getting the big contract. You think his production is more his fault, the O-line or the receiving?
Bill Williamson (2:13 PM)
I think it is mostly the O-line. Actually, look at Cassel's last three games. He's been pretty good.
Lance (Buena Vista, CO)
Champ Bailey appears to be back to what he was after the Portis trade. Can he run with Vinny Jackson?
Bill Williamson (2:16 PM)
Bailey has bene terrific his entire career. He was hurt in the second half of last season. He can handle any situation, although Jackson will get his big plays Monday because he always does.
With Dungy advising Vick not to go to the Raiders and to sign with the Eagles, and other players seeking his advice, don't you think that his infuence is similar to Deon's but portrayed in a different light. Nobody questions Dungy's integrity but it seems the same to me. Dungy is influencing FA choices and talking about "his" players on NBC. Your thoughts?
Bill Williamson (2:17 PM)
This all I have to say, Steve: One heck of a point.
why do u think that no one is taking the denver broncos seriously
Bill Williamson (2:19 PM)
I think a lot of people, and I've been guilty of this myself at times, look back too mcuh at the year before and don't put enough stock in what is happening now. Denver is good and it is not going away.
Who do you think fields the worst offensive line this weekend in Washington? Samuels and Thomas are out for the Skins and looks like Brandon Albert will be missing from a chronically bad unit for KC.
Bill Williamson (2:20 PM)
Looks like it will be a good day to a pass rusher in D.C. on Sunday.
Oral Roberts (SF)
When will the Napa district attorney go to the slate and file charges against Cable? He seems to be dragging his heels through a vat of dough on this seemingly simple case...
Bill Williamson (2:21 PM)
It could go down Monday.
Patrick (Cheyenne, WY)
With talk of a contract extension for Kyle Orton, will Denver be able to afford an extrension for Orton, and soon to be free agents Brandon Marshall and Elvis Dumervil? Or will someone have to go?
Bill Williamson (2:22 PM)
It will be difficult.
Do you think Kyle Orton is a MVP candidate?
Bill Williamson (2:23 PM)
If the Broncos go 13-3 or 14-2 and Orton continues to play this way, then yes. Wouldn't that be a major story?
Breaking News (Oakland County Police Dept)
The punishement for Tom Cable has been handed down and it is flat out scary. He has been ordered to remain the Head Coach of the Raiders for the remainder of the season.
Bill Williamson (2:24 PM)
Not bad, not bad.
Last Week McDaniels was pumping his fist and jumping in the arms of his players after an exciting New England game. Makes me wonder what he will do if they play again in the playoffs.
Bill Williamson (2:27 PM)
That would be another amazing, emotional game. It could happen.
Who are the top 5 pass rushers in the NFL? Allen, Tuck, Dumerville, Ware, Merriman are up there right?
Bill Williamson (2:28 PM)
I don't think Merriman is in the top five right now because of his knee issues. He could be again fairly soon, but he's not there yet.
Bill,Why don't people talk more about Denver's o line, it seems to me that is the best in the NFL and Clady has already entrenched himself at the premiere LT in the game today?
Bill Williamson (2:29 PM)
I think it gets respect from people in the league. Yes, Clady is a top notch LT. The best? Maybe. And that's scary becaue he's played just 21 games.
Is the Chargers' window of opportunity closing? What are the hurdles they'll face in the near future?
Bill Williamson (2:32 PM)
I think it may be, especially with all of these injuries. I'm not saying the Chargers are done, but they may want to get it in gear.
Sir Isaac Lime (KC)
Are you serious about Orton as MVP? Didn't you rank him as 4th best QB in the AFC West earlier this year? I know you enjoy ranking things - how about an updated ranking of AFC West QBs?
Bill Williamson (2:33 PM)
Yeag, that was me.Right nowRiversOrtonCassel<<
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Would Al Davis be crazy enough to blow a top-3 pick on Tebow because of the name recognition?
Bill Williamson (2:34 PM)
I don't think so. But I didn't think he'd take DHB at No. 7, either.
You think KC trades anybody before the deadline?
Bill Williamson (2:36 PM)
At this point, I'd say no and I wouldn't expect a ton of deals around the league.
zach (san diego)
cut it to me real bill, do the chargers got a shot at the west this year
Bill Williamson (2:38 PM)
Sure, but they better win Monday night. if they fall 3.5 games behind Denver, it could be trouble.
What is the future for tom branstater on the broncos
Bill Williamson (2:40 PM)
If he stays rhe course and gets better he could have a future down the road.
Shane (Los Angeles, CA)
Rosenfels to Oakland...Does this trade make sense to you? Im sure Rosenfels could be had for around a 4th round pick!
Bill Williamson (2:41 PM)
He'd be the ebst QB on the team. Makes sense to me.
Nic (San Jose)
Big Oakland Fan Here Bill, with all due respect, are you out of your mind? Where on the schedule do you see the Raiders winning 3 more games? The Chiefs yes, and only other game I give them a shot in is the Turkey Day upset of the Cowboys. But this team has tooooooooo many issues to win 3 more game.
Bill Williamson (2:44 PM)
Maybe I'm too nice ... But don't see the Raiders wiining on a short week in Dallas.
Do you see Moreno emerging past Buckhalter as the season moves on or will they keep a 50/50 approach?
Bill Williamson (2:44 PM)
I think Buckhalter will be the change-of-pace guy. He is a big-play weapon.
Mike (Tujunga, CA)
If Cutler had stayed in Denver would they still be 5-0? And if so then would they be considered the best team in the league?
Bill Williamson (2:50 PM)
Great question, Mike. I like Cutler and I think he'd make Denver very dangerous. But he makes more mistakes than Orton does. Orton is fitting in with McDaniels better than Cutler likely would. Orton has one interception and at was on a Hail Mary at the end of the first half Sunday. Cutler has five interceptions. So, really, at this point, I think the Broncos, under these circumstances, are better off with Orton. And, believe me; I never thought I'd say that. Cutler can be an elite quarterback, but I'm not sure he'd fit McDaniels' system.
Big Bill,Does Oakland draft McCoy next year? His numbers have dropped this year.
Bill Williamson (2:52 PM)
If the Raiders decide that Russell can't hack it, sure, I could see Oakland drafting a QB again. Remember, Bew Englnd owns Oakland's top pick in 2011 because of the Seymour trade, so if Oakland wnats another young QB, it may have to strike when it can.
What winless team has the best(worst?) shot of going winless for the season?
Bill Williamson (2:53 PM)
I'd say Tampa Bay. It's a mess.
Can Denver's defense really keep the Chargers from putting up 30? SD put up 28 in like ten minutes against Pittsburgh, arguably a better unit.
Bill Williamson (2:54 PM)
Denver has held Dallas and New England to a combined 27 points, so, yes, I think it's up to the task.
scott (huntington beach, ca)
i personally think the Broncos would not be 5-0 with Cutler becasue he makes too many bad throws and creates turnovers. your thoughts?
Bill Williamson (2:54 PM)
Yeah, I think that's the reason, for sure.
Indy's O vs Denver's D: one of the best match-ups of the year??
Bill Williamson (2:55 PM)
The game is two months away, but if everything remains the same, that will be a fun one.
Do you really think Dorsey is on the block? If so im moving to Denver.
Bill Williamson (2:57 PM)
Some folks close to the situation don't think so. If the Chiefs trade him, they better get a first rounder in return for the No. 5 pick of the 2008 draft.
TOny (san diego)
Is there a chance that Nnambi Asomugha be traded by the trade deadline?
Bill Williamson (3:00 PM)
I hear the Raiders are calling teams and saying who is not available. Then, they are waiting for teams to call back on players other than the untouchables. I get the feeling Asomugha is not an untouchable. But that, I think, is only because the Raiders would only take a huge package for him. With his contract, that is unlikely, so I don't see him going anywhere.
Bill Williamson (3:01 PM)
Hey folks, great hour. Enjoy Week 6. Talk to you next week.
